SCEE has declined to comment when quizzed on the possibility of PlayStation 3's 3D capabilities going live tonight.
Last month Sony Japan confirmed that it would be releasing updates for the first PS3 games to run in full 3D on June 10 (tomorrow), coinciding with the release of its new 3D Bravia TV sets.
So when it was announced that the PlayStation Network will be going down from this evening until tomorrow morning for "scheduled maintenance", the internet naturally put two and two together.
We'll let you know if our consoles have an extra dimension in the morning.

The Lavalit Team have released a new build of Openbor for the Dreamcast, Dingoo, PSP, Gp2x, Wii and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of Beats Of Rage originally created by the wonderful
folks over at http://www.senileteam.com
History
----------------------
As fans of the 'Streets of Rage' series that originally appeared on the SEGA
megadrive/genesis, we always wanted to see streets of rage 4. But the waiting
proved futile, and streets of rage 4 never came. That's why we tried to correct
this mistake and fill the void by making the ultimate tribute to Streets of Rage:
Beats of Rage!!
Development
----------------------
Beats of Rage was created by Senile Team. However, the character sprites and
some parts of the backgrounds are taken from 'the King of Fighters' games by
SNK Playmore. Therefore special thanks go out to SNK Playmore and SEGA who
unknowingly helped in creating this game.
Beats of Rage and OpenBOR are a free, fully functional game, which includes
music, and features six playable levels plus a bonus level. It is available
for many systems

Snake is back, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker the US version is available today. Challenging stealth action is coupled with RPG elements and RTS action, giving you an even fuller gaming experience. The game was a huge hit when it was released in Japan a few months ago, come see why.
From the publisher: Stories tell of a legendary soldier who, with Metal Gear in his command, had once waged war against the world. His name Naked Snake, a.k.a. Big Boss.
Now, in response to a world hungry for answers, the truth behind this legend will finally be told. The era is the 1970's.
Big Boss had stationed his "Soldiers without Borders" in Columbia, South America, where he was approached by a visitor from Costa Rica "a Nation without a Military".
In the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis, as Latin America became a key to maintaining the power balance between East and West, Costa Rica had miraculously managed to maintain its peace and neutrality.
Get your Metal Gear Sold Peace Walker game today:
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker US US$ 44.90

If you love the Bomberman characters, but you hate the Bomberman gameplay, you might be interested in the latest PS1 game rated by the ESRB for re-release on PSN. Bomberman Fantasy Race takes the familiar helmeted characters out of their explosive comfort zone and into a racing game in which they ride cartoon animals.
We presume it'll sell for the standard "PSOne Classic" price of $6, which means it's cheap enough to be worth a purchase if you want a non-standard kart racer -- or if you want to be a pedant and use it to correct people who tell you that "all Bomberman games are the same."

The US PlayStation blog has the first details of a new PlayStation Network game for both PS3 and PSP called Hoard.
In this "arcade-action" game from developer Big Sandwich, you play a dragon, flying around top-down maps of a "living kingdom that grows around you". The goal is to collect treasure by burning stuff down and kidnapping maidens for ransom.
There's levelling and upgrading to be done, a ranking system, leaderboards, and an online or offline co-op mode if you're playing on PS3.

Take-Two has revealed that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold over 17 million copies worldwide and is still going strong.
The game hit PS3 and 360 in April 2008, and later released on PC in December '08. Two major expansion packs, The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony, hit Xbox 360 exclusively in 2009, while the expansions finally made it to PS3 and PC earlier this year.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said the firm anticipates the game to have a long-lasting lifespan, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, GTA: San Andreas, which had sold over 21.5 million copies worldwide on all formats as of March 2008.
GTA IV's sales have jumped two million since March this year, when Take-Two announced it had sold 15 million units worldwide.
It made no mention of GTA V, but Zelnick acknowledged that 'consumer demand for the series remains to be very strong.'

Red Dead Redemption has sold over five million copies worldwide since it released on May 18 in US (May 21 in UK).
The news comes as part of Take-Two Interactive's investors call currently underway.
The firm said it's "conservatively" expecting the open-world cowboy shooter to enjoy a "long tail" of sales, with the support of DLC content being released throughout the summer, starting with the 'Outlaws To The End' pack releasing June 22, which adds six new co-op missions to the game.

June 8th, 2010, 23:14 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Computer Entertainment has registered a very intriguing trademark for 'PlayView' in the US.
The first function mentioned in the file - pushed through in the US Patents and Trademarks Office - reads:
'Portable electronic device for receiving and reading text and images and sound through wireless Internet access and for displaying electronically published materials, namely, books, journals, newspapers, magazines, multimedia presentations.'
So far, so e-Reader, right? Interesting, yes. But not exactly a threat to the very-possibly-beautiful 3DS. But as we look closer, we also read that the TM covers:
* 'Computer game software recorded on optical discs';
*'Computer software for transmitting, sharing, receiving, downloading, displaying and transferring content, text, visual works, audio works, audiovisual works, literary works, data, files, documents and electronic works via video game machines and Hand-held games with liquid crystal displays';
* 'Video game machines with television for personal use'.
Intriguingly, it also encompasses, 'Retail store services in the field of electronic games, videos, electronic publications and music'.
So we could be looking at some kind of wide-reaching addition to PSN - or perhaps a new service that lets PlayStation owners download and read books.
Or maybe - just maybe - could this be the long-rumoured Sony Ericsson/PSP crossover?
Also covered by the TM are: 'Information providing devices, namely, computer terminals with encrypting software for transmission of messages via the internet web site and e-mail communication' and 'telephone apparatus'.
Whatever the TM - filed on June 3 - covers, picking out Playview's formation is speculation at this stage. Such a myriad of descriptors doesn't help with nailing down a function.
But maybe that's the point. Maybe - just maybe - 'PSP2' does everything. It's an e-reader, email provider, word processor, mobile phone and games machine in one.
Too good to be true? Consider that Sony Computer Entertainment of America trademarked this particular (as yet unused) tagline back on May 17, again in the US... 'It changes everything.'
So, The Sony Playview, then. What do you reckon?
E3, we need you now more than ever.

Though it’s looking unlikely that E3 will be the venue Sony chooses to unveil its in-development successor to the PSP, the platform holder has admitted that pioneering digital-only handheld PSPgo was a test for its future plans in the handheld sector.
Sony has never released sales numbers for the machine. When asked if it regards the PSPgo as a sales success, SCEE president and CEO Andrew House replied: “It was introduced in a mature lifecycle to learn more about what the consumer wanted and we’ve definitely learnt a lot.
“Is that measured by success in sales? I don’t think it is.
“One of the reasons we launched PSPgo was to understand where that consumer behaviour was going. We were getting signals from consumers that this was the kind of device that they wanted. But we need to recognise that consumers like their packaged media library.” MCV has spoken to each of the three platform holders in its E3 Special Edition, which will be circulated at the LA event next week. To read the interviews in full, make sure you check MCV magazine this Friday.

SEGA has announced that PS3 exclusive Yakuza 4 is heading to "the West" in spring 2011.
The news comes via the SEGA Europe blog (thanks VG247).
We reviewed Yakuza 4 on Japanese import earlier this year, handing it 8/10 and hailing it as a "fascinating cultural artefact".
"Yakuza 3's eventual release gives hope that this series may yet enjoy a bright future on these shores, too," reviewer Keza MacDonald noted, in reference to the release earlier this year of Yakuza 3 in the West.
The fourth game introduces new locations and three new protagonists alongside main dude Kazuma Kiryu.

Mobile publisher Recom is reviving Chaos Breaker, an arcade fighting game published by Taito in 2004, as a downloadable PS3 game. Dark Awake: The King Has No Name, as this version will be called, is a fantasy-themed 2D fighter starring knights, ogres, dwarves, and other such Golden Axe-alikes.
In addition to an arcade mode, Dark Awake features online play, along with leaderboards, voice chat, and Trophies. It'll be released in Japan this summer for ¥2,000 ($21.80). No plans have been announced for a release outside of Japan, but we're always up for a new fighting game, especially with online play

Sony and Square Enix have been served a class action lawsuit over issues with the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII.
The suit claims that the game freezes and in some cases 'bricks' the console, rendering it useless, with neither Sony or Square Enix accepting responsibility for the issue.
"Both Defendants are eminently aware of the damage being cause by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it," alleges the lawsuit, uncovered by consumer site IGN.
The suit is seeking $5 million in damages for the suit which represents over 100 users in the US.

Sonic's Dreamcast debut Sonic Adventure looks set to be making its way to PSN as well as XBLA, Siliconera reports.
SEGA is still refusing to confirm or deny the existence of either port, but recently unearthed ESRB listings seem to confirm the game's scheduled release.
It's the latest in a spate of leaks, rumours and whisperings about the 1999 title, which the Korean ratings board last week inadvertently confirmed as coming to XBLA alongside Dreamcast stablemate Crazy Taxi.
Sonic Adventure is still the biggest-selling Dreamcast game of all time, earning considerable praise from the gaming press and community at the time of release, so it seems like an obvious choice to open the floodgates for a stream of Dreamcast re-releases if one is indeed to come.
Expect more news, if there's any truth in the rumour, to surface during the course of E3 next week.

Some rough off-screen snaps of a game purporting to be MotorStorm 3 have appeared on the net, showing an apparent move in setting to an apocalyptic, collapsing city for the off-road racing series.
French site PS3 Gen (via Kotaku) has the pics, which it calls "stolen".
A title screen shows the MotorStorm 3 logo over a cracked and burning skyline, identified as San Francisco by a sign in the foreground.
A tuned road car is shown racing along streets as skyscrapers collapse ahead of it in scenes strongly reminiscent of Disney's recent action racer Split/Second. Another shot has pedestrians running across the path of the speeding car, and what might be a helicopter on fire.
If genuine, the screens would represent a dramatic change for Sony and Evolution Studios' racing series, which has so far set its anarchic off-road racing in natural wildernesses: an American desert and volcanisland in the two PS3 entries to date, and the Arctic on PSP and PS2.
Sony registered the MotorStorm 3 domain earlier this year.
There's no word from Sony yet on whether these images are genuine and, if so, up to date. If we knew ourselves, we wouldn't be able to tell you. Sit tight for confirmation one way or the other as E3 approaches.
