Having only officially launched on Boxing Day, LEGO’s Chima brand is to expand with three video game releases this year.
Notably, however, none of them are for home consoles.
LEGO Legends of Chima: Speedorz is a racing title that will launch on LEGO.com today and iOS tomorrow (January 3rd). LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey is heading for 3DS and PlayStation Vita and is described as “an amazing adventure” whilst free-to-play online MMO LEGO Legends of Chima Online will launch in the autumn.
All three will tap into ‘The Chima Vault’ – an online network that rewards players with points that can be redeemed in Chima Online.
The game will be published by Warner Interactive, with TT Games developing Laval’s Journey and producing Speedorz.
“We are doing something innovative with LEGO Legends of Chima by making three distinct video game experiences on a variety of platforms,” Warner Interactive’s senior VP of production and development Samantha Ryan stated.
“By creating multiple LEGO videogame experiences for one brand, we are catering to today’s diverse gaming community, as well as establish a rewards system for players of all three games.”
Chima officially launched in the UK on December 26th and is the company’s big new IP for 2013. LEGO intends for the brand to overtake sales of Ninjago by 30 per cent before the end of the year

Could physical retail about to be dealt a fatal blow?
We’ve heard the rumour before, and now a fresh patentfrom Sony has once again hinted that the platform holder is looking for a way to block pre-owned games on the PS4.
The tech-heavy document describes a process that sees the console tag discs with information, including whether or not they have previously been played on a different machine or associated with a different PSN account.
The technology would also allow for consoles to block pre-owned titles even if the hardware is not connected to the internet.
“The development of electronic content including game applications (APs) is costly and therefore in a content business it is vital to redistribute part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers,” the document reads.
“On the other hand, the electronic content is being bought and sold in second-hand markets. In such a scheme where the electronic content is bought and sold in the second-hand markets or the like, the sales proceeds resulting therefrom are not redistributed to the developers. Also, since the users who have purchased the second-hand items are somehow no longer potential buyers of the content, the developers would lose their profits otherwise gained in the first place.
“As a technique to suppress the second-hand sales and purchase, a user may be first required to send a password or the like to a remote authentication server from a reproduction device (game player) via the Internet and the reproduction of content may be permitted only for the device that has succeeded in authentication.
“However, where the reproduction device is not connected to the Internet, use of the content cannot be controlled. Also, where the connection to the Internet is an absolute requirement, user's convenience may be significantly reduced. Besides, users may communicate to share the password between them and therefore the second-hand sales and purchase cannot be eliminated reliably.
“In view of the foregoing problems described above, according to the present embodiment, a recording medium and a radiofrequency (RF) tag storing the terms of use (use condition) are included in the same packet (package) of electronic content. Proposed is an electronic content processing system where a usage mode of the electronic content is determined based on whether a reproduction entity, such as a reproduction device or user of the electronic content fulfils the use condition or not.
“According to the present embodiment, realized is the electronic content processing system that reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets. As a result, the dealing of electronic content in the second-hand markets is suppressed, which in turn supports the redistribution of part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers.”
Rumours of a PS4 pre-owned clampdown first emerged back in March 2012, although Sony moved to dismiss the chatter in mat with Jack Tretton saying that he was “opposed to blocking used games”, that pre-owned is “great for consumers” and any moves to block the trade would be “anti-consumer”.
Retailers have also dismissed the claims, though it’s tough to know whether that’s born of hope or actual discussions.

PlayStation maker's application details use of RF tags to prohibit playing used games, even offline
Sony Computer Entertainment America
us.playstation.com
A Sony patent application has revived rumors that the console maker is designing its next-generation hardware to be incompatible with second-hand games. As spotted by NeoGAF user gofreak, Sony has filed an application for a patent on a method of blocking used games from playing on a system without an online connection.
The filing says it is "vital" that the creators of games receive part of the proceeds from sales, but in second-hand markets they receive no such compensation. Sony also notes in the application that players who purchase used games are no longer potential buyers, further impacting its sales.
As for how Sony intends to block used games, the patent describes a variety of implementations and specifies the use of radio frequency identification. In one treatment, an RF reader/writer on the system would read data from an RF tag specific to a copy of a game. The system would then check the content to see if it was restricted (if it was tied to a different console, for example) before allowing it to be played.
"As a result, the dealing of electronic content in the second-hand markets is suppressed," the application states, "which in turn supports the redistribution of part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers. Though in the following description a game application is exemplified as the electronic content, the present embodiment is similarly applicable to various kinds of electronic content such as an office suite, images, and music content."
Analyst firm Sterne-Agee sent a note to investors today after the filing was discovered. According to the group, "Sony's new patent application to block used games, while ominous on surface, is not a done deal and there are many practical considerations that may prevent Sony from implementing it (assuming they receive the patent)."
Speculation that console makers would look to stamp out used game sales with the next generation of consoles first surfaced about a year ago. At the time, analysts were skeptical, suggesting that consumers would rebel. In addition, they said none of the big players in the market would be willing to risk the market share they would lose if competitors opted to allow used sales.
The patent in question was originally filed for in Japan back in April of 2010. Sony filed it in the US in September.

City Interactive has confirmed that Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 will release on March 12, 2013.
In July last year, the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC game's release was delayed for a second time to 2013.The first Sniper: Ghost Warrior game was poorly received, but Xbox World previewed the sequel last year and came away suitably impressed, noting in its Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 preview:
"With a range of accurately modelled sniper rifles (the Remington MSR, the Barrett Xm500 and the Accuracy International 50 to name a few), an addictive bullet cam rewarding perfect shots, and the use of CryEngine 3, Ghost Warrior 2 has a chance to knock the next CoD off its pedestal. From a couple of miles away."

What we can achieve with this Homebrew is able to copy and paste files or folders from a memory stick to another using only your same PSP without the intervention of a PC on our side for this process and what is better without need for the memory stick where you think transferring the files have this installed application. In addition you can also delete and rename files.
Features:
Signed application. (It can be used from a PSP with OFW).
You can delete, copy and rename files, as well as create new folders.
You can copy files up to 50 MB in CFW (PSP not FAT).
You can copy files up to 20 MB in OFW or PSP FAT.
I have changed the English version for use with the default X/O buttons.
Gladly we offer the Spanish translation of this excellent application, thanks to gdljjrod. (Version not signed v1.0).
Controls:
Digital pad up, down: scroll between options in the file browser.
X: choosing option selected.
O: cancel / upload directory.
Triangle: Drop down menu.
Trigger a: select all files in the same directory. (V1.1).
Trigger L: wipe selected files. (V1.1).
Square: Allows you to select one or more files to copy. (V1.1).
Note: This process may vary according to the size of the file especially the times that you asked to make the exchange of the memory stick, can increase the frequency that you will have to exchange them.
MStoMS v1.1 Changes:
Now the homebrew works on libmenu instead of Intrafont.
Now more files can be transferred at a time.
The button has been changed or confirmation by the X button in the English version.
Correction of adjustments and changed the graphical interface.

via http://wololo.net/2012/12/30/happy-n...2-02-incoming/
After a long time of waiting and a weeks-long Ninja release, Frostegater’s exploit is finally revealed to be in the PSP Mini game UNO. UNO joins the growing collection of PSP games with a buffer overflow vulnerability, and if our experience is to be trusted, Sony will remove it from their stores within 48hrs (although we hope the holiday season might help delaying this…), so hurry up and get it.
For those who just join us, developer Frostegater announced a few weeks ago that he would be porting Total_Noob’s CEF to Vita Firmware 2.02. CEF is a piece of software that allows users to run PSP Homebrews, plugins, and backups within the PSP emulator of the Vita. Since this is not official Sony software, it relies on flaws in some specific games in order to run. This time’s game is UNO.
But well, if you’ve been following this blog, you know what CEF does and why you want it, so if you are interested, hurry up, and get Uno now. Let me emphasize again that if you are interested, you want to buy that game now, not tomorrow, not in 2 hours, but now, as you don’t know when Sony will remove it from their stores.
The Game is available in the US, JP, and EU stores, but not in HK based on the reports I have. For those who are in a store where the game is not available, you can create an account in another country, and order a PSN code online. I will not promote any of them, but feel free to share your recommendations in the comments below.
If you do get the game, do not wait to install it on your Vita. A typical mistake is that people will buy from their PS3, download it to their PS3, and not install it to their Vita immediately. This does not work, as Sony has the possibility to remove the game from your download list, technically preventing you from easily copying it from your PS3 to your Vita.
Frostegater’s files will be released on this site as well as other scene websites in a few days (in general we wait until the game is not available in the Sony stores anymore), and until then, here are a few videos from Frostegater and myself showing the exploit in action.

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/01/uno-exp...-with-tn-menu/
Preparing and installing homebrews on your Vita for the recently released 2.02 CEF port by Frostegater is not an easy task. All menus have different ways of handling the installation packages, but, more importantly, Sony made the Vita in a way that copying anything to it is almost impossible, which is why the copy steps always look so convoluted. Tools exist to make your life easier, but here is a how to to understand how it’s done by yourself. I promise, once you’ve done it once, it all becomes simpler.
Note: all the steps below work with all versions of TN’s CEF and TN Menu, but the example are taken from Uno’s exploit on the 2.02 firmware (more precisely, with the European version of the exploit).
1.A Preparing Homebrews
The homebrews we will run on the 2.02 Uno exploit are PSP homebrews. Most PSP homebrews will run out of the box on your Vita with the UNO exploit, but you might often need to package them in a ZIP archive (unless you got a friendly download link which already has it pre-packaged for you.) . Note that in some cases you will have to create the ZIP archive yourself, for example most emulators will not ship with any rom, and you will have to add those yourself to your ZIP file.
Before you start!
The basic thing to understand is that the Vita will not accept any filename. The files you can copy to your Vita with the content manager need to be all uppercase, the “body” of the filename (anything before the “.”) needs to be 8 characters or less, and the extension (anything after the “.”) needs to be 3 characters. Accepted characters are also limited, so I suggest you li,it yourself to letters and numbers. In particular, do not put spaces in the file names.
For example, WAGIC.ZIP is good, but Wagic.zip is not (not uppercase), WAGIC.zip is not (not uppercase), Wagic the homebrew.zip is not (not uppercase, and more than 8 characters before the “.”). A very typical mistake for windows users is that your file will end up being named WAGIC.ZIP.zip because Windows will by default hide the extension for you. You will see it named “WAGIC.ZIP” but in reality the name will be WAGIC.ZIP.zip, which will not work.
When you have a problem in the filename, the vita will silently not copy it, and will not give you any form of error message. The only way you have to realize you made a mistake at this point is if the size of your savedata on the memory stick is smaller that what you’d expect.
Read the “before you start” section above 5 times, because this is the root cause of 99.9% of the issues people have installing homebrew with CEF.
I’m not kidding, read the paragraphs above!
Ok, so, let’s move on to prepare your homebrew. All homebrews have an EBOOT.PBP file. You need to create folders so that that EBOOT.PBP will end in a series of subfolders PSP/GAME/[your homebrew game]/EBOOT.PBP.
For example, PSP/GAME/WAGIC/EBOOT.PBP.
Don’t forget of course to include all the files from the homebrew in that folder structure. Once this is done, zip the “PSP” folder you created, and name it whatever you like, following the rules I described above (all uppercase, less than 8 characters, etc…). I personally suggest to use the “store” option for creating your zip, but I believe TN Menu handles all formats of compression. Do not use an other format of file that you would rename in .ZIP, this will obviously not work.
Once your ZIP is ready, copy it to the UNO exploit savedata folder in your CMA folder on your computer. It will look like PSAVEDATA/[random letters and numbers]/NPEH000DATA02 (this might vary depending on your exploit).

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/01/release...y-frostegater/
Important update: it seems for the EU version, you need your console to be set to English language in order for the exploit to work. I’m sure Frostegater will look into this, but in the meantime, if you use the EU version, please switch your console language to English!
Happy new year again! We eventually got convinced to not wait any longer and release the files for Frostegater’s port of Total_Noob’s CEF for Vita Firmware 2.02.
As a reminder, this tool relies on an exploit in the PSP Game UNO. You must own a legit copy of the UNO game on your PS Vita Firmware 2.02 in order for this exploit to run. CEF will let you play PSP Homebrews and PSP backups on your Vita. It does not allow you to play pirated Vita games, or PS Vita native content. To summarize, CEF does what a CFW or a HEN would do on a PSP.
Installation / How to use
Installation and how to run are explained in the readme, but for the sake of it:
1.Extract the zip, and copy the folder that matches your version of the game (EU, JP, or US) to your content Manager PSAVEDATA folder. For example: My Documents/CMA/PSAVEDATA/1234567890abcdef/NPEH00020DATA00
2.It is recommended to install OpenCMA, although until Sony releases a new firmware, the regular CMA client is ok too
3.Copy the UNO savedata to your PS Vita with the content Manager
4.run UNO on your PS Vita, and press X (or O) to continue, this should load the exploit

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/02/frosteg...sh-at-startup/
Yesterday Frostegater released his port of Total_Noob’s CEF to vita firmware 2.02. Some of you reported trouble running the exploit on the EU and US versions of the game. A quick investigation led us to understand this was a problem happening when the language settings were not set to “English” on your Vita (or rather, when the UNO game would not show up with the English interface for you).
Frostegater quickly investigated and updated his work. You should now be able to launch the exploit independently of your Vita’s language settings.
Frostegater also used the opportunity to remind me that he is not the one who found the UNO exploit (he “just” used it to make his port of CEF), but that so many people found it that it is difficult to find an actual “author”. This is already stated in his Readme file, but Frostegater wants to credit hackers xiaolin, zer01ne and MaxiExtreme for finding this exploit. Although we’re sure other people found this exploit as well, these are the ones we know about.
I also want to thank user 173210 who investigated and fixed the issue independently yesterday, which already unstuck most of you, here.
If you are having issues using this exploit, please have a look at our tutorial on how to install and run homebrews/isos before you ask any question, thanks

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/02/uno-pul...ownloads-list/
UNO has been pulled from the Playstation Store, I have confirmation in EU but it turns out that it hasn’t been removed from download lists so people who downloaded it on their PS3 still have a chance to get it!
Sony has “finally” removed UNO from the Playstation Store after 3 days, which is a relatively slow response compared to previous exploits. Hopefully more people were able to get the exploit this time, than with the Urbanix and Mad Blocker alpha exploits, which had been leaked and pulled extremely fast.
The Game appears to still be available on the JP and US stores, but that might not last long, so hurry up and get it while it’s still there.

via http://www.romhacking.net/
A word from Cless:
I started the Tales of Phantasia PS1 project for the simple reason that I really wanted it in English. I liked it so much more than the Super Famicom original that it kind of killed me back then to see only the “inferior” version available in English, so I felt like something had to be done. Thus I did the crazy thing and announced a project for a game on a gaming platform that was basically uncharted territory for the ROM hacking/translation scene. I was pretty much on my own, and…very lost. Help fortunately arrived, and though things started to unravel and go at a nice clip for a little while, a wall was soon hit which prevented the project from really going anywhere particularly meaningful for another four to five years.
Better tools for deeper level hacking were finally being made available for PS1, and rapid progress began getting made on the technical front, but we hit another wall, this time in terms of script. Translation and localization editing. An existing partial translation was donated and the remainder was finished some months later. Localization editing definitely took much, much longer than it reasonably should have. It took three inexperienced people, a lot of time, and a lot of effort to beat the script into the shape it is now and what I hope is of an acceptable level of quality, what I hope has managed to strike an ideal balance between readability and accuracy. I won’t claim it’s “perfect”; in fact, I can still think of ways to improve it even more, and there are still some things I’m feeling a bit iffy over, but I definitely want to move on now. And I wouldn’t doubt there are plenty of others who feel the same way.
The Tales series as a whole has evolved so much since this project began. This game is quite basic comparatively and it’s a lot harder for me to go back to after being spoiled by the growth seen in later installments. I really don’t put it on a pedestal like I used to, but it still has some considerable nostalgia value. Though I’ve had my long battles with burnout at times, I think that’s one of the reasons why I continued to give this project everything I had and see it to release.
I’m not so sure I would call this the true end of the project, though. Anything more is certainly far less of a priority now that it has finally reached a stage that I think is acceptable for prime time, but there are still some things currently in the programming pipeline from Habilain. Some sophisticated tweaks to improve presentation in a few areas, but also somewhat more important things like adding subtitles for voices in tiny corners that remain unsubbed. And just coming from beta testing, it’s come to my attention that some of the skits in the game are entirely unused, while several others seem misplaced, and Habilain’s looking into a means of integrating the unused ones seamlessly into the game and possibly moving the seemingly misplaced ones into a more sensible place. As long as he continues to stick around, I’m sure these will materialize eventually. Besides me, he’s been around the longest of anyone still actively on the team, but is unfortunately often short of time. To be sure, I’ve had my share of frustrations with that, especially in the last few years, but I’m very grateful he’s stuck around.
Of course, I would like to thank everyone who helped make this project come to fruition over the years, as well as those who’ve kept the faith and waited us out patiently.
As for the future… Well, we’ve obviously got two more big Tales games to finish up. With the experience gained from ToP, I’m hopeful we can get these out much more quickly now that they won’t be held back by another project. I’ve also gotten an idea for a possible translation project of a somewhat prolific game that’s perhaps a bit more niche than a Tales, but I don’t see myself announcing what that is anytime soon, if I even decide to go ahead with it.
That being said, here is the patch you’ve waited so many years for.

Sunlight pierces the ragged gap between two avenues of trees lining the steadily climbing road. Trial Mountain’s long back straight is a rare chance to breathe, providing relief after the twists of the track’s canyon section, a rock-walled succession of unforgiving hairpins that will punish careless corner-clipping and scanty braking. It’s also a chance to enjoy some of the few visual flourishes Gran Turismo invests in beyond its cars: shadows and reflections flickering across paintwork, and shafts of light splayed by the canopy above.

Put simply, this game was absolutely unimaginable a year before its release.” So runs the comment in our 100 Most Significant Reviews special on Gran Turismo’s ten out of ten score, and that ten has always provoked debate. Those for it agree there’s no question that The Real Driving Simulator redefined the console racing game, ripping it from its arcade roots, and set a new standard for the breadth, fidelity and flexibility of game software that would – and still does – cause ripples way beyond its genre. Those against argue that, despite its massive appeal, the almost fanatically obsessive approach it takes to its subject matter does make it an inaccessible mystery to many players; and that, unlike all the other tens, its mighty achievements have very little to do with traditionally good game design.Of course, it’s easy to argue the toss now, after nearly twelve years’ worth of hindsight, nine years of its revolutionary template being worn into familiarity by imitations and GT’s own lavishly hidebound sequels. That comment is a telling reminder of how uncanny it seemed at the time. And such were the shockwaves caused by its graphical and physical realism, it was easy to miss just how strange and fearless it was underneath. Creator Kazunori Yamauchi and his team at Sony’s internal studio Polys – later, of course, to gain more independence and fame as Polyphony Digital – were absolutely rejecting the videogame aesthetic, and conventional wisdom with it. They poured countless man-hours into the painstaking recreation of some 150 cars, most of which most players could never hope to use, and many of which had no logical reason to be there. They then broke each model down and opened it up to the user with a tuning system that was like being able to reach into the code and tweak it yourself, a cocky invitation to explore the very limits of its magnificent handling model. And, most strangely of all, they organised it all into a sprawling, progressive game structure that turned its back on every existing variant of videogame racing and instead took inspiration from a most unlikely source: the RPG.

Shares in global video games retailer GameStop fell seven per cent on news that Sony may be moving to block pre-owned games on the PS4.
A patent was unearthed yesterday showing freshly filed tech that would see Sony consoles tagging game discs as used. Thus when they are put into another system Sony is then artificially able to limit what content gamers can and cannot access.
While Sony believes this would lead to long-term gain for both itself and publishers, the move will likely leave both consumers and retailers very nervous.
Cutting pre-owned software out of the equation would result in increased expense for consumers and a potentially fatal decline in revenue for retail. Used games, for instance, accounted for 46 per cent of GameStop’s profits in its last fiscal year.
GameStop and GAME execs are likely on the blower to Sony right now seeking reassurance and attempting to stop any such move. Sony’s decision is this – will the perceived increase in profits (as a result of not losing revenue to pre-owned) offset the damage caused by a significant dip in retail support?
And none of this takes into account any possible backlash from consumers, and that’s something which is concerning US analyst Michael Pachter.
“This patent reminds me of SOPA,” Pachter stated, according to Eurogamer. “And if Sony puts the technology into the next PlayStation and any publishers attempt to limit the playing of used games, I expect the consumer backlash to be similar.
“Sony would be materially hurt if its console blocked used games and competitor consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo did not. The Wii U is already on the market with no used game prohibition, and we believe that Microsoft would take advantage of Sony's prospective decision to block used games by marketing that its own next generation did not block used games.
“If we are right, consumers would favour the console that provided more choice, leading to loss of market share for Sony's console and a benefit to Microsoft's.”

iOS, Android, Google TV, XBox -- heck, Epix even has an app for the BlackBerry PlayPook. So, what's surprising is not that the premium movie channel is coming to the PS3 and Vita, but that it took so long for it to happen. Soon Sony's gaming faithful will be able to download the app from the PlayStation Store and start streaming the network's sizable catalog of movies and original content. Of course, you'll have to have actually subscribe to it through your cable provider first, but you knew that already, didn't you. For more check out the PR after the break.

Sony could be set to announce a multichannel TV service to rival cable at CES 2013 next week.
According to Variety the PlayStation firm is in active negotiations with "at least two major content companies" about licensing their channels for a package that could roll out in the US later this year. The service would offer a package of linear channels delivered via broadband connection.
Few specifics are provided about the proposed service, but it's suggested Sony could leverage the range of connected devices already in US homes including PlayStation 3s, Bravia TV sets and Blu-ray players.
A Sony spokesman declined comment regarding "rumors or speculation."

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/06/total_n...-dev-for-help/
Total_Noob, famous developer of the CEF (Custom firmware within the PSP emulator of the Vita) is back with a project to bring the convenient PSP XMB to the PSP emulator on the Vita.
The first screenshot (see below) is pretty impressive, and I know it’s a feature many of us have been dreaming of. But this is still a work in progress and there are lots of obstacles to bring the XMB back to the Vita.
The idea is basically to copy some modules from a PSP 6.60 firmware, probably reverse engineer them a little bit to fix/remove the parts that don’t make sense as well as get them to communicate correctly with the PSP emulator on the Vita. Of course, distribution of such files (once the project is ready) might become problematic, as they will surely contain some code and graphics from Sony, but that’s something that will need to be addressed when the project is complete.
Total_Noob will be busy with real life and has to put the project on hold for now. He is looking for a trusted dev of the PSP/Vita scene to help him continue the work. If you have what it takes, you can contact him through the source below.
So what do you think? Pretty cool, right?

A new release of the impressive PSP Emulator for Windows/Android, heres the latest news:
The last release was over a month ago, but believe me, it's been worth the wait! PPSSPP 0.5 brings large compatibility improvements, much better audio, many graphics fixes, savegames working in many games, and save states too! All of this available for both Android and Windows, with more ports coming soon.
In this release we also make available the PPSSPP Gold version, which is a paid version with a golden icon but otherwise identical to the main release. If you want to support the development of PPSSPP, a great way is to buy PPSSPP Gold. Currently only available for Android.
Now, stay tuned for v0.6, for which I have planned to write a dynarec (JIT) for ARM, which will improve speed on Android.

Sony to 'show off pre-release hardware ahead of an expected 2014 launch'
A Sony press conference scheduled for February 25th could be the launch platform for PS4, one online report has claimed.
Expert Reviews claims to have word that Sony will use the Destination PlayStation event “to formally unveil its next-generation PlayStation 4 console for the first time, showing off pre-release hardware ahead of an expected 2014 launch”.
It further claims that the early reveal is intended to dampen enthusiasm for the Xbox 720, which it believes Microsoft WILL launch by the end of 2013.
You can expect plenty more stories along these lines as 2013 progresses.
Microsoft last week revealed a countdown to E3 in June, suggesting that it has pegged the LA showcase for its Next Xbox reveal.

Sony has confirmed that it has ceased all production of the mighty PlayStation 2.
It was reported last week that the company had called time on its Japanese production of the console, but Sony has now confirmed to The Guardian that all PS2 production worldwide has been wound down.
The world’s most successful ever home console ends its innings after 12 years and with global sales of over 150m units and an unprecedented software library nearing 11,000 titles. Lifetime PS2 game sales are estimated at over 1.5bn units.
Only Nintendo’s DS can match Sony’s machine in terms of unit sales. Even the mighty Game Boy doesn’t come close.

Sony chief executive Kaz Hirai has admitted that the Vita is struggling.
“I would say it’s on the low end of what we expected,” Hirai told The Wall Street Journal, although he did add that it’s far too early to judge the machine, adding: “Long term is what is important.”
After all, PS3 was derided for the first two years of its life and has grown to become a solid success. With Vita having launched in February 2012, and with less than a year under its belt, the handheld is still very much in its infancy.
However, the turnaround will have to be significant if the machine is to ape the success of its predecessor, the PSP.
Sales are low in every region and with little in the way of notable software on the horizon from either first or third party developers, a price cut seems the only viable route toward a turnaround.
Hirai also had a word of warning for handheld newcomer Shield from Nvidia, observing that there’s a long list of companies that have failed to break into the hardware sector.

Sony is welcoming Nvidia into the world of handheld gaming with a bit of mild skepticism. The Wall Street Journal reported on CEO Kaz Hirai's reaction toNvidia's Project Shield reveal in a post-CES keynote media scrum last night.
According to the paper, Hirai said it's too early to tell how Nvidia will do. However, he noted the industry's history doesn't lack for examples of companies that tried unsuccessfully to establish themselves in the market, saying, "It's not an easy business to get into."
Sony has had enough difficulties in the handheld market without needing to worry about a new competitor. When asked about PlayStation Vita sales, Hirai said they were "on the low end of what we expected." However, he noted some industry-watchers were similarly down on the PlayStation 3 at the same point in its lifespan, and that it can be 5-10 years before a system's success can be properly evaluated.
Hirai's assessment is essentially unchanged from August, when he told Reuters that Vita "is pretty much along where we would expect it to be, maybe trending behind in certain territories."

Journey is a pretty fantastic game. Not only do wecompletely agree with this sentiment, but US PSN players do too – Journey topped the PSN sales charts in December, beating out Mass Effect, Far Cry 3, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royaleand The Walking Dead Episode 5: No Time Left.
Helping to fill out the top 20 full-games list was Assassin's Creed 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Tokyo Jungle, and The Walking Dead episodes three and four. LittleBigPlanet Vita was the No. 1 Vita game in December, while the Black Ops 2 Season Pass was the top add-on.
In related PSN news, European players can snag some sweet deals this month on games such as Saints Row: The Third, Spec Ops: The Line, Mafia 2, Jet Set Radio, Hell Yeah! and quite a few more. Check out the complete list here.

Sony is way beyond fashionably late to the console web store party in the US next to the likes of Microsoft, but it told CNEThere at CES 2013 that it hopes to officially bring its Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) store stateside this month. Though we already spotted the service recently (which allows you to order movie, TV and video content and set it to download automatically to your PS3), it was still in beta at that point and only in Europe. Residents there can place orders, with items appearing on Vita or PS3 download lists, but until the official launch happens, nothing will download for now -- at least not without some hacking, from what we saw before. It's not clear whether it'll launch stateside in the same fashion or go live, fully functional, on both sides of the pond at the same time. If Sony's words ring true, though, we shouldn't have to wait long to find out.

Lifetime worldwide PS3 shipments have surpassed those of Xbox 360, according to a new report published by market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to a GamesIndustry.biz's summary of the 67-page study, PS3 shipments hit 77 million units in December 2012 versus Xbox 360's 76 million. The figures cited relate to console units shipped to retail and not those purchased by consumers; actual PS3 sales reached 70 million units in November 2012, according to Sony, roughly one month after Microsoft reported the same Xbox 360 sales total.
Where IDC's reported shipment figures originate from isn't specified but, if accurate, they represent good news for Sony given that PS3 launched one year after Xbox 360, and the fact that it's widely perceived to have suffered a slow start given its then-relatively high price point.

Capcom's forthcoming Capcom Arcade Cabinet platform for XBLA and PSN is officially coming stateside, the company has just announced. While further details regarding pricing, release dates and the platform's complete catalogue of games are being withheld until February 7, Capcom did confirm that will be part of the US release, as it is in Japan.
Assuming that Capcom Arcade Cabinet's business model for the states is the same as it is in Japan, however, there are some inferences that we can make. The XBLA/PSN app itself will likely be free and include one game (probablyBlack Tiger), though that hasn't been officially announced as of yet. As far as games that aren'tBlack Tiger, we're assuming they'll either be sold individually or in packs, but we won't know for sure until February.

A redesigned PlayStation Move? Sony's taken a stab at it before-- but this time around, it's imagining a controller withultrasonic location analysis and Wiimote-like IR tracking. A new patent application details a "method for determining location of a controller," which proposes tracking controller depth by measuring the travel time of sound emitted from the device to the television. Two-dimensional tracking would be managed via the existing Move's visual spectrum camera, or by using a display-mounted IR emitter in conjunction with a remote mounted sensor (again, just like the Wii controller).
Although not technically part of the patent, the application's attached visual aids are pretty creative too -- showcasing a completely redesigned Move wand with swappable button faceplates. One embodiment shows two Move controllers attached end-to-end, mimicking a sword, while another shows a pair side by side, linked by a full gamepad sized faceplate. One bold image shows a player with two devices strapped to his ankles, performing a backwards flip to kick a digital soccer ball -- Sony is apparently very confident about the patent's potential tracking accuracy. We'll reserve judgment until we see the technology in practice, but feel free to read the claims for yourself at the source link below, or simply mosey on past the break to see the aforementioned athlete trying to break his neck.

A remake of the original Alien Breed released on Amiga in 1991 will be revived for PS3 and Vita via a PlayStation Store release in "early February", developer Team17 has confirmed.
The remake will give players the option to play with enhanced visuals or the original 16-bit graphics of the Amiga version, while adding further enhancements in the form of online and local multiplayer for both versions. The game will also support cross-platform multiplayer, allowing Vita and PS3 owners to co-operate with each other, and full compatibility with save files on either system letting owners of both consoles carry their Story mode progress over from one system to the other.
The game has previously been released as a PS Mobile title - which are playable on Vita - and via the iOS App Store. Team17 says news on an Android version is coming soon.

FuturLab has announced Velocity Ultra, a native Vita version of its highly praised PS Minis game Velocity.
Featuring a "completely overhauled" visual style, Trophies and online leaderboards, FuturLab MD James Marsden says it can be thought of "as the director's cut; everything we would have done the first time around if we'd had the budget".While there's no solid release date, the studio's "on track to submit to Sony at the beginning of April, so we are guesstimating a release date in May".
For those hoping for a sequel to the original, Marsden added: "Velocity Ultra is a way for us to establish the Velocity franchise with a wider audience, and we've got plenty more Velocity in the works.
"In fact, we've just published a Velocity Sequel Questionnaire to find out what you want to see in a sequel. If you fill it out, you could win a copy of Velocity Ultra."
Edge described the original as "a new standard bearer" for PS Minis in its 9/10 Velocity review.

Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s next Xbox will both be launched by the end of the year, an analyst has claimed.
As reported by MCV, Baird Equity Research’s Colin Sebastian said the PS4 will be released in October, while Microsoft will launch the new Xbox in November.
He further stated that the next-generation hardware from both companies will also be revealed at E3 in June, and will be built from ‘off the shelf’ high-end PC components.
Sebastian added he expected the consoles to use hybrid physical/digital distribution models, enhanced voice controls and motion sensing – with Kinect integrated with every Xbox.
He said however that “early production issues” could delay the PS4’s release.

The new-look PSN store is a mighty fine beast, but it can chug a little.
Not anymore, though. Spong reports that Sony has released a 26MB patch that not only increases the speed at which users can browse its catalogue but should also stamp out erroneous error messages.
The HTML5-based store design was rolled out in October and offers a far more modern and visually led experience than the old design, which was well overdue a revamp.
The revamp comes as Sony increases the emphasis it places on the digital distribution of not only ‘small’ titles on the service but also of bigger, triple-A releases.
On Christmas Eve Sony even discounted the price of recent release Far Cry 3 to just £24.99, meaning that for the first time PSN was able to compete with retail on a modern title.

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/11/new-exp...-psp-emulator/
We have recently come across what might be a new exploit for the PSP emulator, by a user nikcnamed zaiii, who posted information on our forums as well as a video on youtube. At the moment, we have no confirmation about its legitimacy, but we will be following up.
In a video on YouTube, a hacker appears to have discovered a new exploit in the PSP emulator.
We are not really sure if this is legit because we already have the UNO exploit which wasn’t removed until recently and it seems like most people had the time to grab it.
But nothing on the video makes it look like an obvious fake. The video shows a hello world, and a flame effect similar to some of Wololo’s hello world Proof of concepts from early VHBL developments.

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/12/ps-vita...e-uno-exploit/
The PRO team (the people behind the PRO Custom Firmware, probably the most popular piece of software of the PSP scene these days) are back with a huge release: a PSP CFW for the Vita, running on the recently revealed UNO exploit. Codename: ARK
If you’ve been using the UNO exploit, ARK is basically an alternative to Total_Noob’s CEF. At the core, ARK is a port of Pro CFW to the PS Vita, and seems to bring features that might be lacking in CEF. In particular, the Readme emphasizes the following:
Features
•PSX game support (soundless so far, our sound plugin is too glitchy for public use at the moment)
•ISO/CSO game support
•NoDRM Engine for decrypted dlc playback
•MS-SpeedBoost (most noticable on games like soul calibur)
•Stargate Game Patches (fixes several anti-cfw games)
•Customizable Main Menu
•Plugin support
•Recovery support
•ISO-cache support (speed up ISO gaming)
Some of you might remember a leak of some of Coldbird’s work a few months ago, which led him to leave the scene. ARK is the project that was leaked back then (although the leak was encrypted, and therefore not usable), and that the Pro team decided to release today. I assume the decision was taken a while ago, but porting the existing work to the new firmware 2.02 might have taken some time.
Although I haven’t tried this specific build, I was lucky enough to try early builds of the ARK project a few months ago, and overall I was impressed. Coldbird left the scene while he was in the middle of bringing sound support to PS1 games, so it is unclear if the sound plugin for PS1 will ever see the light of day, but independently of that, I am pretty sure ARK brings a nice new option to those of you looking for alternatives to CEF.

One of the biggest questions that users have surrounding ARK is compatibility with PSX games. In this post I’ll explain why psx doesn’t work natively on the vita, and how ARK managed to make it work.
First of all, we must know why PSX games won’t work natively, unlike ISOs or Homebrews.
This due to the fact that the PSP used it’s second processor, the Media Engine, to emulate PSX sound, effectively taking some load off the processor and keeping a decent framerate. The problem we are facing on the Vita is the lack of Media Engine, the Vita does not emulate the Media Engine.
So when a PSX game tries to run, it calls the Media Engine functions, but Media Engine doesn’t exists, so the functions don’t either, causing a crash. But, if PSX games crash because of no sound, how are able to make it work? the answer lies in hacking.
In ARK, Coldbird managed to hack POPS to make it accept custom sound plugins (if you have ever used an emulator, you’ll know what a plugin is). For this version of ARK, Coldbird simply injected a dummy sound plugin, meaning there will be no sound, but the game won’t crash cause the dummy plugin will return a generic ok signal, even if it has done absolutely nothing.
Ok so the first step is done, we are able to get PSX games running without crashes, but there is no sound, and we can’t make sound working cause there is no ME, which means to get sound working a plugin must be coded and it must be ran by the CPU.
The only open source sound plugin that came to Coldbird’s mind was PEOPS, so he got to work on it. Did he get any sound at all coming out of PSX games? I’ll let this video answer the question:

It looks like Canada is the next country to snag a white version of the (latest) PS3 Slim, according to a listing on Best Buy. This bundle includes one year of PS Plus and the 500GB white model of the PS3 Slim, running $300 and set to hit the warehouse on January 27.
So far Japan, Europe and Australia have been graced with the white PS3's presence, but it has yet to officially hit US shores. The Japanese, European and Australian white versions were capped at 320GB, however, so it looks like Sony's coloring team is stepping up its game.

Sony's been mum on any new PlayStation (read: PlayStation 4) news since ... well, ever (okay, there is that one exception). But Sony Electronics VP of Home Entertainment Hiroshi Sakamoto may be the first to break that silence. He told Emol(translated by Engadget Spanish) in response to a question about "a new announcement related to the new PlayStation," that while the news is "still a big secret," the PlayStation side of Sony, "are getting ready for it." He of course doesn't directly refer to a "PlayStation 4" or the rumored "Orbis" internal project name. Sakamoto adds that the PlayStation team are "focused on E3," but, "the announcement could take place at that time, or maybe even before, in May." Sounds like Sony's toying with a pre-E3 event for its next-gen console -- E3 takes place on June 11 - 13 -- though Mr. Sakamoto's comments are still ambiguous enough that we can't be sure. This is a company that launched three different major hardware iterations of the PlayStation 3, so anything could happen.
When the interviewer follows up on Sakamoto's tease-y answer by asking, "But are you getting ready for a big announcement or something complementary?," Sakamoto continues speaking in ambiguities. "Probably the former, on that date we hope to deliver big news, but we must wait until May at least," he says. We've followed up with Sony for more, but don't expect to hear much beyond a wink and a smile.

Zen United has provided an update on the status of the Persona 4 Arena European release.
In a posting on Facebook, the publisher confirmed PlayStation 3 versions of the game have been received and it now awaiting Xbox 360 copies."We have now taken delivery of the PS3 EU version of Persona 4 Arena, and we are expecting the Xbox version soon," reads the message.
"Once we have both, the next step will be to submit P4A to Sony and Microsoft. At this stage, we'll be able to estimate a likely release window for you guys - and once it's been approved by both platform holders, we'll be able to give you a realistic street date.
"We will, of course, let you know what stage we are in this process so you can have a clearer idea of when the release date is likely to be. Again, thank you for your patience..."
A game's submission process - where a console manufacturer will test the project for bugs and other such issues - can take a number of weeks before completion.
Persona 4's European release was delayed last year, with processes related to EU localisation issues cited as the cause. Zen has promised fans "will get something nice for the delay".

PlayStation Vita owners with a Plus subscription can get their skates on and download the excellent Jet Set Radio this week for free.New additions to the EU PlayStation Store today include Retro City Rampage, out for PlayStation 3 and Vita priced £8.99.Eurogamer's Chris Donlan served up an 8/10 for Retro City Rampage back in October. It's an 8-bit love letter to popular culture over the past three decades, structured around a well-made GTA de-make.The latest Borderlands 2 DLC, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt is available, priced £6.49, or comes free for Season Pass holders. It also received 8/10 from Chris Donlan.DmC Devil May Cry, this week's big retail release, is available for download too, priced £49.99. Eurogamer gave it - you guessed it - 8/10, although we got someone else to reviewthis one.

Dead or Alive 5 Plus for the PlayStation Vita will not only allow players to challenge PlayStation 3 owners during online play, but also save a bundle on their provocative-costume bill. Well, in-game at least.
Team Ninja's coming portable adaptation of last September's Dead or Alive 5will support both Cross Play and Cross Buy functionality, according to Siliconera's translation of Famitsu. Like other Cross Play enabled titles, Vita owners will be able to challenge people playing the PlayStation 3 original when battling online. Likewise, any DLC purchased on either system will automatically be applied to the other, meaning that the PS3's limited edition/pre-order costumes will appear on the Vita, and vice-versa.

PS4 'has a run-capability' of 1.84 teraflops compared to the next Xbox's 1.23 teraflops
The PS4 will be 50 per cent more powerful than the next Xbox in terms of raw power, according to a report.
Developers have allegedly told VG247 that the PS4 will have a run-capability of 1.84 teraflops, while the next Xbox will have 1.23 teraflops.
Despite more computational power, the next Xbox is said to have significantly more RAM than the PS4.
The PS4 will apparently have 4gb of RAM, 1GB of which will be reserved for the operating system, security and apps, while the next Xbox will house 8gb of RAM, with four-to-five gb left over for running games.
Both next-gen consoles however will be able to read 100gb blu-ray discs.

That new, paler PlayStation 3 that turned up at Canadian retailers recently? Turns out that's launching US and Canada-wide, according to PR that Sony just let loose. The $299.99 console bundle is the latest version of the PlayStation 3 (with the unfortunate top-mount disc drive) and comes with the largest HDD capacity on any PS3: 500GB. The bundle also comes packed with one matching white DualShock 3 controller, and a full year membership to PlayStation Plus. There aren't any games included in the package, but then you're getting a whole mess of free content from that PS Plus subscription, now aren't you? Sony's even got a video detailing that mess of content, which we've dropped just below the break.

Sony's PlayStation Vita gaming handheld caps its selectable content at 100 items, one unlucky forum user recently found out. Despite having a 32GB memory card for the Vita with 9GB of free space left, the Vita told him (as seen above) that the device caps displayable content at 100 items. Worse yet, anything beyond the 100 had to be outright deleted, and the Vita had to be restarted -- if you want to access anything beyond the 100, you need to delete something else. Egads! The Vita in question contained a 32GB memory card with "around 50 [PlayStation] Minis, 10 PSOne titles, 20 or so mandatory apps, and 20 Vita/PSP games/apps" -- something we could easily see ballooning now that PlayStation Plus is on Vita.
Management of memory card data can (thankfully) be handled on a PC or Mac using Content Manager Assistant, lest you worry that your data is trapped. Still, having to hot swap between (expensive, proprietary) memory cards on the Vita kinda flies in the face of large storage capacity memory cards, like the 32GB one employed by the unlucky person who discovered the limitation. For its part, Sony isn't saying anything just yet, but we'll update if we hear more.

Star Wars 1313 will release on PlayStation 3 this year, according to Sony's PlayStation Germany Facebook page (via NeoGAF).Today the update was posted alongside screenshots and artwork for the game. It comes as some surprise - we've heard little about Star Wars 1313 since it was revealed at E3 in June last year. When the game was announced an impressive trailer was released showing visuals that looked too good for the current generation of consoles. The gameplay video sparked speculation that 1313 was in fact a cross-generation title designed to release on current-generation consoles and next-generation consoles. At the time developer LucasArts declined to announce the intended platforms, although did say the game was being developed using Unreal Engine 3 and the video was captured from a PC./p>Star Wars 1313 has been dark since Gamescom 2012. Some believe the lack of news to be a sign that it is indeed a next-generation game. New consoles from Microsoft and Sony are rumoured to be due out at the end of this year.

Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi, the hack-and-slash PSP action game based on Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom (itself a PSP otome visual novel about getting hunky samurai to fall in love with you), will be available on February 19 in North America, Aksys has announced. Folks that pre-order the game through Amazon will receive a bandanna featuring the game's eight playable samurai.
Not so concerned with the heart's capacity to love as much as with its ability to be stabbed by swords, Warriors of the Shinsengumi follows young maiden Chizuru and her accompanying Shinsengumi on their quest to find her father. Players will be able to play through two versions of the game, one that followsDemon of the Fleeting Blossom's storyline and a second, alternate version.

PS4 to be announced 'in a matter of weeks'
Sony is set to abandon the DualShock controller design for the PS4, according to a report.
A source working on an upcoming Sony game has told CVG that Sony is set to ditch the controller, with the new gamepad having gone through a number of iterations that look little like the old design.
As well as potentially making a new controller, various redesigns of the new gamepad are also said to include biometric sensors and an LCD touchscreen.
A separate source claimed that Sony was “trying to emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PS Vita”.
It was also suggested that the new PS4 will be revealed within the next few weeks, a claim similar to previous rumours that Sony is set to reveal its next-gen console on February 25th at its Destination PlayStation event.

Digital Foundry presents hard data on the technology inside Sony's new console... and its upcoming Xbox rival
Both the next generation PlayStation - and its Xbox competitor - feature eight-core CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz according to sources trusted by Digital Foundry. The main processor architecture driving both consoles is said to be derived the new "Jaguar" technologycurrently in development by Intel's arch-rival, AMD. These are low-power processor cores designed for the entry-level laptop and tablet market, offering an excellent ratio between power consumption and performance. The PC Jaguar products are set to ship later this year in a quad-core configuration - next-gen consoles see the core count double with some customisations added to the overall design.
Married to the eight-core processor, Orbis also features Radeon HD graphics hardware. We've previously suggested that AMD's mobile "Pitcairn" design - the Radeon 7970M - could be a strong basis for a next-gen console graphics core in terms of power consumption and die-size. Running at 850MHz and featuring 20 of AMD's "Graphics Core Next" compute units, our information suggests that Orbis shaves off 10 per cent of that number, offering up 18 CUs in total, and sees a mild downclock to 800MHz. Incorporated into a design dedicated to cutting-edge visuals and gameplay, this hardware has some serious potential.
It is perhaps more than coincidence that these specs offer up the 1.84 teraflops metric for the Orbis GPU that was mooted yesterday, assuming that the figure is calculated in the same way that it is for AMD's current "Graphics Core Next" range of products. At this time we cannot confirm the make-up of the Durango graphics hardware - rumours have circulated for quite some time that it is some way behind Orbis, but equally there has been the suggestion that the GPU itself is supplemented by additional task-specific hardware. We could not confirm this, butan ex-Microsoft staffer with a prior relationship with the Xbox team says that two of these modules are graphics-related.
However, there's a fair amount of "secret sauce" in Orbis and we can disclose details on one of the more interesting additions. Paired up with the eight AMD cores, we find a bespoke GPU-like "Compute" module, designed to ease the burden on certain operations - physics calculations are a good example of traditional CPU work that are often hived off to GPU cores. We're assured that this is bespoke hardware that is not a part of the main graphics pipeline but we remain rather mystified by its standalone inclusion, bearing in mind Compute functions could be run off the main graphics cores and that devs could have the option to utilise that power for additional graphical grunt, if they so chose.

CEO believes company is on the comeback path, says 4K TVs could take a decade to catch on
Sony
Sony's last quarterly report showed signs of improvement for the company. While the gaming division struggled, overall the electronics giant sold more products and lost less money year-over-year. There's clearly a ways to go, but CEO Kazuo Hirai told the Associated Press yesterday the company has been making strides in the right direction.
"We need to be a lot faster in decision making," Hirai said to reporters in Tokyo. "We need to be a lot faster in execution. We need to be passionate about our product. Are we perfect? No. But I think we've improved significantly."
The executive said the company will focus its efforts on higher-end products, avoiding the price wars that have helped turn its TV division into a money loser for nine straight years. To do that, Hirai said Sony will need impressive new products, and he pointed to a waterproof cellphone as one example. Another possible effort on that front would be 4K (Ultra HD) TVs, which were shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month. While the higher resolution displays will be hitting the market soon, Hirai said it could be years before they catch on with consumers, perhaps even a decade.
In the near-term, the company's bottom line will be boosted by the sale of its US headquarters. Unloading the 37-story New York City office is expected to sell for about $1.1 billion, and boost the company's operating income by $685 million. The company does not yet know where it will base its business after the sale of the building.

The three existing add-on packs for Bethesda RPG Skyrim will finally arrive on PS3 by February, Sony has announced.
Previously exclusive to the Xbox 360 version ofSkyrim, the add-on packs will be released across both PC and PS3. The specific release dates are not yet available, though all PS3 add-ons are set for February. The PC edition of Dragonborn is due February 5.Sony said that each add-on will be discounted by 50 per cent during launch week.
The add-on packs for Skyrim - named as Hearthfire, Dragonborn and Dawnguard - have become subjects of controversy due to their elongated exclusivity period on Microsoft's Xbox 360 system.
"Over the last year, it's been a treat for us to work on new content for Skyrim, and we're excited that it will soon be available for everyone to explore," Bethesda said.

Capcom's development teams are thought to be building a PS Vita edition of its once 3DS exclusive project Monster hunter 4, a new report suggests.
Speculation regarding the delay of MH4 has led to one alleged insider claiming that work on a Vita version has pushed the project past its March deadline.A local games magazine published in Japan wrote: "Whilst originally it was said that the delay of MH4 was due to wanting to make a better quality game and graphics, the real reason appears to be that it may be released on the PS Vita to increase sales." (Translation)
The Monster Hunter series has collectively sold more than 21 million units since it debuted in 2004, and is widely regarded as a 'system seller' for handheld devices.

The world's most preeminent pre-1995 full-motion video/ol' west sharpshooting arcade game, Mad Dog McCree, will be slinging steel and/or jingling jangles all across the PlayStation Network this Tuesday, January 22.
The port includes remastered footage, PlayStation Move compatibility and support for up to four simultaneous players, in addition to an "all-new scoring system" accompanying the rest of the content featured in the original version. No official word on price, though we figure you can make back the purchase price by charging your roommates 25 cents per play, as is customary for this type of gaming experience.

Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?,' says Hirai
Sony will reveal and release the PS4 after Microsoft launches the next Xbox, the company’s CEO has suggested.
Speaking to The Times, Kaz Hirai said Sony would not be keen to make the first move in the next-generation console race with Microsoft through fear of having its ideas copied.
"Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?,” he said.
Despite Hirai’s claims, it is rumoured that the PS4 could be announced as soon as next month, or at least during the Game Developers Conference in March around the same time Microsoft is expected to announce its next-gen console plans.
It is also unlikely that Sony would want Microsoft to gain the upper hand by launching the next Xbox on the market too far in advance of the PS4, while Sony is also unlikely to change its plans for its next console too radically even if Microsoft does announce its new hardware first.

US consumers are now able to make PlayStation Network purchases via PayPal.
CVG reports that the option has not been implemented for purchases made via PS3 or Vita but is available for those buying content via the Sony Entertainment Network website and on a selection of Android apps such as Music and Video Unlimited.
Users are then able to top up their PlayStation wallet account directly from PayPal up to a maximum amount of $150.
There’s no word yet on whether the option will be rolled out to other regions or implemented on console purchases.

Sony's current console line up a little too monochrome for your taste? Look towards the sunrise -- a more colorful PlayStation is about to arrive in Japan. Starting next month, Japanese gamers will be able to decorate their living room with PS3s in "garnet red" and "azurite blue." Sony says the colorful variants will be available in limited quantities when they launch on February 28th, packing a 250GB HDD and priced at ¥24,980 ($279). The colors appeared in Europe over the weekend, too -- flaunting 500GB HDD and a €330 (about $440) sticker price on Amazon.de. No word on North American availability, though we wouldn't be surprised to see it show up in a bundlesomewhere down the road.

Sony's PlayStation Mobile initiative was made live in October, offering users of the PS Vita and certified-Android devices (Sony Xperia and HTC One lines) access to exclusive games content.
A month later and the firm introduced the platform's tool kit to developers in Japan, North America, Europe, and Australia. The SDK has now been made available in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with developers in the markets noted as being increasingly focused on creating entertainment content for multiple mobile devices.
The annual licensing agreement fee will cost 800HK$ (around $105) for Hong Kong and 3,000NT$ (again, around $105).
Sony, said: "SCE will further accelerate the expansion of PlayStation Certified devices and continue to collaborate with content developers to drive the delivery of compelling entertainment experiences through PlayStation Mobile."

Who will move first in the next-gen battle? It’s the question on everyone’s lips in the games industry right now.
Established opinion seems to veer toward a PS4 in the surprisingly near future, but speaking to The Times – and widely reported across the games press – Sony boss Kaz Hirai has cast doubt on that belief.
"Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" he stated.
Now, this isn’t necessarily the confirmation that many outlets are reporting. The company is on record as not wanting to let Microsoft enjoy the same head start on the market as Xbox 360 did over PS3.
And if other speculation is to be believed, Sony is having a bit of trouble finalising its hardware manufacturing agreements for the new machine.
The truth is we’re unlikely to know anything for certain until one of the pair plays the first move. Which could still happen very, very soon.

64% of gamers say they're looking at buying Sony's handheld in 2013, 3DS in second with 48%

Year one for the PlayStation Vita in Japan wasdisappointing, but it might be in for a significantly improved year two. According to a CVG report, a Famitsu-conducted poll of Japanese gamers found Sony's handheld the most common response when asked which systems they were considering buying in 2013.
With 64 percent of respondents looking at picking up the Vita, Sony's handheld was the only entrant on the list to break the 50 percent mark. Nintendo's latest handheld, the 3DS, came in second, with 48 percent of Japanese gamers saying it was a purchase they were looking to make this year. The just-released Wii U came in third place, with 34 percent of respondents planning to buy Nintendo's latest console.
The rest of the list was populated by more entrenched and ubiquitous options. The PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 followed with 25 percent, 14 percent, and 11 percent positive responses, respectively. Smartphones were next at 10 percent, but Apple-specific products like the iPad, IPhone, and iPod Touch topped out at 7 percent.
Full methodology for the survey was not disclosed, but 75 percent of the respondents were male.

Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream could be working on a PlayStation 4 game codenamed 'Singularity'.
That's if a recently registered domain, 'SingularityPS4.com' turns out to be as revealing as it seems. In May 2012 a trusted senior development source told CVG that the Paris studio was working on two separate mystery projects- one confirmed as Beyond: Two Souls, and the other still yet to be revealed.
But offering what could be the first nugget of information pertaining to that second mystery title,Superannuation has uncovered a mid-November registration for the 'singularityps4.com' belonging to Quantic Dream, seemingly hinting at a next-gen project titled 'Singularity'.
The domain adheres to Quantic Dream's prior practices with domain names - specifically the title followed by its intended platform; it currently uses 'heavyrainPS3.com' and, for its upcoming title, 'beyondps3.com'.
And as Superannuation points out, in interviews discussing his 2012 PS3 Kara tech demo, QD boss David Cage reveals his admiration of American author Ray Kurzweil and his 2005 book 'The Singularity is Near'.
In the book, Kurzweil theorises a 'technological singularity' coming in the near future - a time in which humans are able to enhance the abilities of their bodies and minds with advanced technological augmentations.
Whilst QD's mystery game could draw influences from Kurweil's work, 'Singularity' is unlikely to be the final game name since it's also the copyrighted title of the Activision/Raven Software FPS released in 2010.
On a side note, the domain also hints that Sony will stick with its hardware naming conventions and call its next-gen console 'PlayStation 4'.

Minimalist fighting game Divekick is coming to PS3, Vita and PC this spring, developer Iron Galaxy Studios has announced.
Originally conceived by Shoryuken editor-in-chief Adam "Keits" Heart at his studio, One True Games, Divekick's ridiculous two-button setup was initially designed as a parody of fighting games, but it took on a life of its own at various fighting game competitions where it ended up drawing long lines.Last year Heart launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete Divekick on PC. Though the project was fully funded, Heart ended up pulling the plug on it when Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and Darkstalkers developer Iron Galaxy picked up the game. As such, none of the pledges were collected, though backers were still rewarded in some way for their efforts. With extra muscle behind the project, the commercial release of Divekick will include GGPO-powered online support and a fully-fledged single-player campaign."Once I played Divekick , I knew I had to steal it from its creator and reap the benefits for myself," said Iron Galaxy president Dave Lang. "I look forward to seeing Divekick Cyber Athletes on cereal boxes in the near future.""Divekick is good at two things: teaching some of the basics of fighting game to players of any skill, and ending friendships," Heart added. "I partnered with Iron Galaxy because I know they love these things as much as I do.""This game was made by the community, for the community, to completely tear apart the community."

The CP System (CPシステム, shīpī shisutemu?) or CPS-1 is an arcade system board developed by Capcom that ran game software stored on removable ROM cartridges. More than two dozen arcade titles were released for CPS-1, before Capcom shifted game development over to its successor, the CPS-2.
Capcom's Street Fighter II series is perhaps the best known franchise within the CPS game library. The first three titles in the series, the original title, Champion Edition, and Hyper Fighting edition were all developed on CPS-1 and highly successful.

The MVS (Multi Video System), as the Neo Geo was known to the coin-operated arcade game industry, offered arcade operators the ability to put up to six different arcade titles into a single cabinet, a key economic consideration for operators with limited floorspace. With its games stored on self-contained cartridges, a game-cabinet could be exchanged for a different game-title by swapping the game's ROM-cartridge and cabinet artwork. Several popular franchise-series, including Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Metal Slug and Samurai Shodown, were released for the platform.

Neo Geo CD (ネオジオCD, Neo Jio Shī Dī?) is a game console from SNK that was released in 1994, four years after its cartridge-based equivalent, in an effort to reduce manufacturing costs. It is the second console of the Neo Geo family. The system was originally priced at US$300 new.[citation needed] The unit's 1X CD-ROM drive was slow, making loading times very long as a result, with the system loading up to 56 Mbit of data with every load.[citation needed] Neo Geo CD game prices were low at $50, in contrast to Neo Geo AES game cartridges, which cost as much as $300. The system can also play Audio CDs. All three versions of the system have no region-lock.
The Neo Geo CD was bundled with a control pad instead of a joystick like the AES version. However, the original AES joystick could be used with all three Neo Geo CD models, instead of the included control pads.

FIFA was the dominant video game in the UK 2012 physical PS3 chart.
FIFA 13 managed to beat sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops II to be the biggest selling game on Sony's home console last year, according to GfK Chart-Track.
It was one of three FIFA games in the Top Ten, with FIFA 12 at No.7 and FIFA Street at No.8.
The FIFA franchise was heavily promoted on PS3 with a cross-ad deal between Sony and EA, a deal which appears to have paid dividends.
Assassins Creed III was the third best selling PS3 game of the year. There are no platform exclusive games in the PS3 Top Ten.
The PS3 Top Ten in full:
1. FIFA 13 – EA
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Activision
3. Assassin's Creed III – Ubisoft
4. Hitman Absolution – Square Enix
5. Need for Speed: Most Wanted – EA
6. Far Cry 3 – Ubisoft
7. FIFA 12 – EA
8. FIFA Street - EA

Chalk up another potential win for AMD. The latest report on the next PlayStation console (courtesy of Kotaku), allegedly codenamed "Orbis," puts AMD at the heart of both CPU and GPU: an eight core AMD64 CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU are said to drive the system. That's at least the dev kit that the site's tipster has as of right now, but those specs -- yes, even biggies like these -- could change completely by retail availability. Should AMD remain the CPU/GPU manufacturer, both Nintendo's Wii U and the next PlayStation will be powered by AMD chips; not too shabby for a company that's been bleeding talent. The rumors we've seen of the next Xbox also point to x64 architecture, but it's unclear whether that'll be supplied by AMD or another manufacturer. If those rumors pan out however, it would mean that a single unified architecture would power two of the major gaming consoles as well your laptop and desktop -- something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. (And would open up a world of possibilities.)
We're inclined to trust the current specs of the dev kit, as they're said to be sourced from "official Orbis documentation ... a hive of more than 90 PDFs about the forthcoming console." One slide culled from that official documentation also outlines Sony's vision of user accounts, allowing multiple Sony Entertainment Network accounts to be signed in simultaneously (thus allowing for individual Trophies, and potentially cloud saves, among other uses). The piece also details a new controller -- though it is noted that the current dev kit supports both DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers (and the image above shows a Move, so probably that too) -- which is supposedly known as "the Orbis Development Tool." It's said to resemble the DualShock, albeit with the addition of a capacitive touchpad -- a rumor also posited by some UK outlets earlier this week.
Whether any of this is actually true is another question altogether, and we can't be sure until Sony gives official word. It sounds like some form of information isn't too far off -- E3 perhaps? Regardless, head over to Kotaku for the alleged full (current) list of specs on the dev kit and even more speculation.

via http://wololo.net/2013/01/24/vita-2-...s-uno-exploit/
As of now in most regions the new official Vita firmware update 2.5 is live and is mandatory.
After reporting on the firmware update yesterday and then them pulling down the information from the update page they’ve decided to blind side us with the 2.05 vita update today. But after the UNO exploit release we knew it was bound to happen at some point or another. The update was quite lengthy to download and to install so as to what Sony decided to do with the update other than blocking the UNO exploit is unknown until further investigation. Oddly, the update also required for a system reboot which hasn’t been the case before. Undoubtedly it did patch the usermode and kernel exploit for UNO. The update is already live in the US and should make its rounds to everyone else at anytime.
The change-log included doesn’t offer any other details other than the standard “System software stability during use of some features has been improved.” However it patches the UNO exploit for 2.02 and below using the typical black list method making the exploit unable to load and shown as corrupt. If you’d like to keep your UNO exploit or any previous exploit released do NOT update to 2.05 or you’ll no longer have access. (Remember that all tricks and proxies have been blocked so you’ll be stuck without direct PSN access on your Vita.)
If you have decided to stay on a lower firmware you’ll need to make sure you have Open CMA installed so you are not blocked from copying content. By some chance if you missed the last few exploits, go ahead and update and wait the next release. Also keep in mind when deciding to update from a previous exploit that there may be a chance that the next exploit release is not a kernel exploit but rather usermode (VHBL). The main difference is that kernel exploits allow for full access to the pspemu giving us eCFW (TN-C & ARK) which lets you run PSP/PSX backups, homebrew, plugins ect. compared to VHBL which is limited and only allows homebrew.
Stay tuned for updates.

Security breach 'the most serious we have had reported to us,' says ICO
Sony has been fined £250,000 as a result of the PlayStation Network hack in April 2011.
After the PSN hack, in which millions of users’ personal data was compromised, the PSN was down for a month as Sony looked to plug the security holes in the online service.
Information such as addresses, credit card numbers and other personal details were thought to have been stolen by the hackers.
The fine has been handed down by the UK Information Commissioner's Office after it found Sony was in breach of the Data Protection Act, and the body's deputy commissioner David Smith said the hack was “the most serious breach we have had reported to us”.
He added that Sony had “let everybody down”, and said it was making no apologies for the penalty.

'There is no evidence that encrypted payment card details were accessed'
Sony is planning to appeal a £250,000 fine from the UK Information Commissioner’s Office for failing to protect its customers’ data during the PSN hack in April 2011.
The fine was slapped down by the ICO this morning after it found Sony was in breach of the Data Protection Act.
Personal information of PSN users such as addresses and credit card numbers were believed to have been stolen by hackers, but Sony has disputed whether any of the leaked details could have been used for fraudulent purposes.
ICO deputy commissioner David Smith said the hack was “the most serious breach we have had reported to us” and had no doubt Sony possessed the technical expertise to prevent such an attack.
In a statement however to MCV, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said that it “strongly disagrees with the ICO’s ruling and is planning an appeal”, and highlighted the ICO's own findings that there was no evidence to suggest credit card details had been accessed.

The original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will launch on the PlayStation Network for PS3 next week.
Set for release as part of the PS2 Classics range, it'll be available to download on Tuesday January 29 in the US and Wednesday January 30 in Europe, priced at $9.99 / €9.99 / £7.99.We called the 2002 PS2 version of the game phenomenal in our original Grand Theft Auto Vice City review.
Last month US ratings body the ESRB classified more Rockstar PS2 classics for PS3 including Red Dead Redemption predecessor Red Dead Revolver, school playground fist-flinger Bully, and racing games Midnight Club, Midnight Club 2 and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix.
And Rockstar said today: "Stay tuned for more classic Rockstar titles coming for download to PSN in the weeks and months ahead."

Earlier this week Capcom announced that its formerly 3DS-exclusive Resident Evil: Revelations would be coming to PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PC in an enhanced version. As many pointed out, the Vita was omitted from this list. But why?Capcom product manager Mike Lunn responded to such queries on the US PlayStation Blog, stating that it was a technical issue with porting to the platform."When we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent," Lunn stated in a comment. A big screen experience is all well and good, but this totally ignores the fact that the game was originally designed for a system with a smaller screen than the Vita and even less horsepower.Lunn later added, "3DS and PS-vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts. Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions/functions."After that he continued to direct people to his first response.Given that there are loads of games that exist on both platforms, this talk of different resolutions and surround sound seems like it isn't telling the full story. Perhaps it has more to do with the Vita's poor sales, eh?

Earlier this week Persona 4 Golden on Vita was confirmed for an EU release date of February 22. Today, NIS America has confirmed it'll be out two days earlier via the PlayStation Store.
The digital version of the game will arrive on the EU PS Store on Wednesday, February 20, two days ahead of its arrival at retail.Persona 4 Golden is an updated and enhanced Vita remake of of the original PlayStation 2 RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.
It launched in Japan and US in June and November 2012 respectively, achieving positive reviews and healthy sales in both regions. Its release was accredited with causing a temporary surge in Vita sales in Japan, with 137,076 copies sold in that region in the game's launch week.

During the month of February, Sony has launched an incentivized referral program that rewards PlayStation 3/Vita owners with $20 of PSN credit and 1,000 Sony Rewards points, provided they successfully convince a friend or family member to purchase a Vita.
Your referred friend/family member also receives $20 in PlayStation Network credit, in addition to, like, the Vita they just bought, which makes this whole thing a pretty easy sell for anyone who had already planned on buying a new handheld this month. If you don't know anyone like that, however, might we suggest bribing them with the copy of Care Bears Movie II: A New Generationthat you bought with your 1,000 Sony Rewards points?

Capcom is bringing Resident Evil: Revelations to everything except Vita because of the portable's screen format size and lack of surround sound. Those were the reasons given by Capcom product manager Mike Lunn on the PlayStation Blog, following the news of the 3DS game's impending arrival on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.
Responding to a comment querying the lack of a Vita port, Lunn said, "When we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent."
That's all good and well, except for how Revelations was initially made for the 3DS and its not-so-large screens. Lunn went on to address that in another comment.
"3DS and PS-vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts," Lunn noted. "Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions/functions."
Capcom's reasoning aside, that leaves the Vita without a Resident Evil game compared to two on its rival handheld, so we can understand frustrations. On the plus side, a lot more people get to play the popular 3DS game when it hits other platforms on May 21.

DeanK has just updated multiMAN application to version 04.19.00, which now has initial support for booting up single-disc game-based PSone disc images from a storage device (/PSXISO and /PSXGAMES folders), complete with virtual memory card support, although do bear in mind that game compatibility is much lower than booting up PSone backups via an optical disc (PSone game disc or CD-R/CD-RW), and that the disc images will show up in the Retro column instead of the default game column, so having a PSone game burned onto a disc or playing a legitimately acquired PSone game is still advised for those who plan to play PSone games on the PS3 for the time being.

The Sony Entertainment Network has launched in select territories, allowing users to purchase Playstation Network and Sony Online Entertainment content from their web browser.
Sony announced that the new branch of PSN’s redesign is available now for users in US, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
The firm did not mention when the expansion of the service would arrive in additional territories outside of the four aforementioned countries.
Sony also announced Paypal as a new payment method for account holder’s SEN wallets, though that isn’t an option in Brazil where the service isn’t offered.

RPG hit Persona 4 Golden will be released digitally BEFORE it goes on sale at retail.
NIS America’s game will be released at UK retail on February 22nd, although Vita owners will now be able to download the title from PSN from February 20th.
It is becoming increasingly common for games to launch concurrently at both retail and for download, but this move is an example of consumers being given an increased incentive to download their games.
The game has been a big hit not only in Japan but also in the US. It currently boasts a very impressive 94 per cent review average on Metacritic.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be the latest addition to the PS2 Classics collection, with Rockstar announcing its arrival on the Playstation Network this week.
The digital offering will land in North America on January 29th for $9.99, and in Europe the following day on January 30th for £7.99.
"Ever since the releases of San Andreas for PSN and Vice City on iOS and Android, we've received more than a few requests from the community wondering when they'd be able to touch down at Escobar International and return to the neon-lit streets and sun-splashed shores of Ocean Beach on their PS3," Rockstar stated in an announcement post. "Today we can confirm that it won't be long now..."
The company went on to tease other ‘classic’ Rockstar titles on the way to Sony’s digital service in “the weeks and months ahead.”

Rockstar VP Dan Houser has called the prospect of a futuristic Grand Theft Auto "tempting," adding the caveat that he'd need "a good reason" to make it.
Speaking to French site Ecrans last November (via OXM), the series writer claimed that Rockstar is currently missing the essential elements needed to justify pushing GTA into the world of sci-fi."We will do it the very second we have an idea," Houser replied, when asked whether the franchise would eventually transcend the present day.
"One of our strengths is the consistency of the game world. We're not necessarily the best writers in the world, but we [know] how to write a video game.
"When we decided to make a Western, it was because we knew we had something to say," he went on. "We have no interest in going into science fiction for the sake of flying cars and laser guns. The best science fiction stories are those that speak about the human condition.
"So while this idea is very tempting and, by definition, anything's possible in a videogame, we lack the essential thing for the moment: a good reason."
A move to a future setting could also be seen as a method of rejuvenating the popular open-world franchise, although Houser said he feels that GTA doesn't need a refresh for the moment.
"I'm not worrying about this for a good while yet," he said."In the past some of our titles have been successful, others less so, but as long as we have the ambition of making the kinds of games that nobody's ever made before, we're not going to get bored.
"To offer an analogy with cinema, some films can be told in one page of text. Once the basic situation is there, you know exactly how it will evolve. But if you're careful to change the narrative structure, it can change everything. Chris Nolan's Memento is a good example. That's the kind of approach we've achieved."
Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA V release date will fall in spring 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360. PC and Wii U versions are "up for consideration", according to the studio.

Persona fans will snap up PlayStation Vitas next month to play the latest game in the RPG series, says publisher Reef.
Persona 4 Golden launches in the UK on February 22nd, with Reef Entertainment on distribution duty.
“We expect Persona 4 Golden to top the Vita charts on release just as it has done in Japan and the US,” said Reef general manager Will Curley.
“From our experiences at MCM Expo, we know that there are a fair few RPG fans that will purchase the Vita just to play the game.”

Higher quality audio is a staple of the experience for a growing number of streaming music services, most notably Spotify. Sony won't let itself become the exception to the rule: Music Unlimited now has an option for a much more detailed 320Kbps bitrate. The quality upgrade is staggered and is initially active on Android devices, the PlayStation 3 and the web player, while desktops, iOS, the PlayStation Vita and home theater gear will get improved tunes later on in the year. Music Unlimited won't appease those who want a consistent experience in the near term, then -- still, it might be enough for listeners whose Xperia serves as a primary jukebox.

Sony apparently sees 2013 as a chance to colorize its agingPlayStation 3 console, today announcing yet another new color for the superslim packing 500GB of storage. To match the blood red tattoos found all over God of War star Kratos' body, Sony colored this one garnet red, and is pairing the console with God of War: Ascension -- thusly, the bundle arrives on March 12, the same day God of War: Ascension is scheduled to go up for sale. Unlike its "Classic White" brethren, you won't get a full-year subscription to PlayStation Plus in this bundle -- a disappointment considering this one costs $50 more. It does, however, include not just a copy of God of War: Ascension, but also God of War Saga (which collects the first three God of Wargames) and God of War: Origins Collection (which bundles the two God of War PlayStation Portable games). That's a total of sixGod of War games included in this bundle, so you'd better reallybe into spending time with Kratos should you pick this up.

An Insomniac Games rep has said the developer shares the "frustration" of gamers miffed over the lack of news on the Vita version of Rachet & Clank: QForce (aka Full Frontal Assault in US), which has missed its already-delayed release window without explanation.
The game - which crucially was pitched as a cross-buy, cross-play title for PS3 and Vita - hit PS3 in November, but the Vita version wasdelayed to January. This window has been clearly missed and there's yet to be any further correspondence from publisher Sony or Tin Giant - the outsourced developer handling the Vita port.
Insomniac, developer of the original PS3 version, vented its frustration in a recent and now-deleted Facebook post.
"Insomniac cannot make any comment about the game. We have repeatedly asked Sony and Tin Giant for an update to share with our fans. They have not provided any update we are allowed to share," the Insomniac rep said (via Polygon).
"We are sorry for any disappointment, but there is nothing we've authorized to release publicly. Trust us in that we share your frustration, and have been passing your comments on to Sony, we also advise you contact Sony directly to share your disappointment and frustration," they added.
Sony ensured fans last month that, despite the delays, the Cross-Buy offer still stands; those who buy the PS3 version will be entitled to a download code for the Vita version - which will be compatible with cross-play.
The publisher also promised to give players the first DLC pack, a 'Miniboss multiplayer skin pack', as compensation for the delay.

Responding to today's Grand Theft Auto V delay, Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz has suggested that Rockstar may be planning to eventually release the game on the next generation of consoles in some form.
Creutz reasons that the game's delay to September - allied with the expected launch of at least one next gen console later this year - effectively pushes GTA V and any subsequently released DLC into the next hardware cycle. He said today in a research note: "In and of itself, the delay of the game from FQ1 to FQ2 would not normally mean any significant change to expected FY14 financial results.
"However there is an issue in that we expect the next generation of Xbox and/or PlayStation consoles to launch in the December quarter. We think the closer proximity of GTA V to the next cycle could, at the margin, impact lifetime sales of the title, though we believe that a title of GTA's stature will still be a major seller regardless.
"We think there also could be some impact on the legs of likely GTA V downloadable content as the next-gen installed base increases through 2014. However, we suspect Take-Two may have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles in some form to offset this."

The dream of PS Vita and PS3 games working in harmony hasn't really been fulfilled. But there's a curious newcomer called Deathmatch Village intent on changing that. It's made by Polish studio Bloober Team, which made A-Men on Vita a little while ago.Deathmatch Village touts multiplayer three-on-three battle arenas that mix people playing on Vita with people playing on PS3.It's free-to-play, so convincing friends to try it - or establishing a userbase - shouldn't be hard.Deathmatch Village has cross-saves as well, so progress and Trophies travel with you across platforms. Any extra content you buy does, too (what you can buy isn't specified). There's no footage nor are there any images of Deathmatch Village in action. The press release talked of "dozens" of weapons, items and skills; and of "arcade arenas packed with fast-paced, guns blazin' & axe-slicin' action".Sounds like there are village hubs to roam around in between bouts where you can customise characters, modify loadouts, shop and train.

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut will drive from Greenvale all the way to Europe in order to arrive on April 19. Magical realism makes it possible. Like the American release, the Euro version of the Director's Cut is PS3-only.
Speaking to the European PlayStation Blog, designer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro talked about plans for a follow-up. "I'm in discussion with Tomio [Kanazawa, of Toybox Games] about the future of Deadly Premontion. It may not be Deadly Premonition 2 but it's definitely going to be something," he said. "At the moment we're talking about how it might be interesting to set the game in Europe."
