In what can only be seen an unwelcome PR blow for Microsoft ahead of its E3 press conference at 18:00 (BST) tonight, the BBC’s tech correspondent has voiced his unease about some elements of Kinect’s design.
Speaking after a hands-on sessions at Microsoft’s pre-E3 gathering last night, Rory Cellan-Jones stated:
“It was an enjoyable, if sweaty, half-hour, and I could certainly see the attractions of throwing away the control and just flinging yourself at the game.
“But I was not quite convinced that Microsoft's technology would deliver for hard-core gamers. It seemed to work well on fun Wii-like games where you didn't need too much precision – I'm not so sure how whether it would deliver on a first-person shooter.”
However, Cellan-Jones was a lot more positive about Sony’s Move controller.
“I've also had a go on Sony's Move motion control system, which is unveiled on Tuesday,” he continued. “Sony's solution is much less radical. It has retained the controller, now adorned with glowing spheres which interact with a sensor unit on the television.
“This makes the whole experience less physical than with Kinect, but it also delivers a lot more precision. Sony showed us a table tennis game which seemed to mimic the real thing much more closely than I have seen elsewhere.”

Nyko Announces Product Lineup for E3 2010, “Moves” into New PS3 Territory
LOS ANGELES - June 14, 2010
Leading gaming peripherals manufacturer Nyko Technologies® today announced the upcoming product line-up to be showcased this week at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), taking place June 15–17 in Los Angeles. The line-up includes a variety of innovative new accessories for the Sony PlayStation 3. From bold new controllers to charging solutions for the upcoming PlayStation Move, Nyko continues their tradition of innovation and affordable, high quality design.
“Nyko has been a participant in E3 for 11 straight years and we’re excited to be using the show as the launching pad for our 2010 products,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. “Sony had a banner year with the PlayStation 3, and we’ve developed a line of products that complement and enhance this console's gaming experience.”
Raven for Sony PlayStation 3
The Raven, Nyko’s premium controller for PS3, features Multi-Axis Technology for full motion support. It comes in two configurations – the Raven Standard Configuration laid out identically to Sony’s controller, and will be instantly familiar to PS3 gamers. In response to player demand, the Raven Alternate Configuration swaps the position of the left analog stick and directional pad, giving gamers the first-ever ergonomic alternative to Sony’s layout. As the majority of modern games rely on the analog joystick, this is a great option for players seeking a more comfortable controller for gaming sessions.
Charge Station and Charge Station Quad for Move
Easily store and charge both the Move Motion controller and the Move Navigation controller at once. Or, with the 4-Port Charge Station, keep 2 sets of Move Motion controllers and 2 Move Navigation controllers ready for instant action. The convenient drop-and-charge design recharges the internal batteries in the Move controllers, while AC power allows for faster charging with no messy cables back to the console. LED Charge Indicator lights display the charge status, and both units sport a sleek design that will look great near your PS3.
Core Controller for Sony PlayStation 3
The Core Controller features fully analog face buttons and joysticks for accurate and responsive gameplay. The dual vibration motors will shake and rattle with the action giving you full immersive feedback with your games. With its 9-foot USB cable, the Core Controller provides lag-free response time, and with its trigger styled shoulder buttons your finger will easily stay put with every pedal to the metal moment in your favorite action or racing games. The Core Controller is the ideal hardware for those who want the most accurate controller, response and ergonomics for their PlayStation 3 at the most affordable price possible.

June 14th, 2010, 10:53 Posted By: wraggster
Sony's 3D development boss Simon Benson has told GamesIndustry.biz that he believes the introduction of 3D is a more significant leap in home entertainment than the shift from standard to high-definition.
Benson said 3D enables the player to use their vision correctly in games, and is something they will recognise as a revolution - once experienced it can create an expectation that all games should be offering 3D as standard.
"I would say it's probably bigger, because it's completely different," said Benson when asked if he though 3D was a bigger jump than upgrading to HD. "It's the first time you've switched on your other eye. With HD we've gone for more resolution, which is great, more detail, better quality, but suddenly you've just switched on the other eye for the first time ever, you see the world with both eyes every day, yet in everything that's being pumped through your television you've gone back to seeing it as if you only had one. So really it's that level of significance.
"3D's just another one of these big revolutions in the technology. It's another of these step forwards that gives you something else, something that was better than the last generation, and on it rolls."
"It makes all the difference to the whole industry because people are going to be playing these games for the first time in 3D," he added. "The first time they play a 3D driving game they'll be thinking 'these benefits are so significant that I want all my driving games to be in 3D from now on please'. And that kind of demand is going to mean that everyone who's making games will think I need to feed that now. Because it clearly makes sense."
For users concerned the effects of 3D may be over powering for long periods of time, Benson said Sony is working on allowing players to adjust the levels of 3D in their games, lessening the effect it necessary.
"If people find that they want a more subtle 3D effect, they can do that. It's all being considered to that degree... it's not that everything in the world will always be 3D forever. I think 2D's still very very much mainstream, and obviously one of the points we're making is that we're not going to neglect 2D by any stretch.
"2D's still exceptionally important and 3D's just another option, another thing that you can choose to make use of if that's what you want."

German publication GamersGlobal may not be familiar to you, but we expect you'll recognize those shiny orbs -- somehow, the website managed to pry a pair of PlayStation Move motion controllers and software away from Sony long enough to shoot an extensive video demo. While we're admittedly jealous of our distant neighbors, we wholeheartedly recommend watching their 30 minute hands-on with Disc Golf, Archery and more -- we've had a turn or two in PlayStation Move's multicolored spotlight already, and we suppose it's time to pass on the torch.

The Lavalit Team have released a new build of Openbor for the Dreamcast, Dingoo, PSP, Gp2x, Wii and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of Beats Of Rage originally created by the wonderful
folks over at http://www.senileteam.com
History
----------------------
As fans of the 'Streets of Rage' series that originally appeared on the SEGA
megadrive/genesis, we always wanted to see streets of rage 4. But the waiting
proved futile, and streets of rage 4 never came. That's why we tried to correct
this mistake and fill the void by making the ultimate tribute to Streets of Rage:
Beats of Rage!!
Development
----------------------
Beats of Rage was created by Senile Team. However, the character sprites and
some parts of the backgrounds are taken from 'the King of Fighters' games by
SNK Playmore. Therefore special thanks go out to SNK Playmore and SEGA who
unknowingly helped in creating this game.
Beats of Rage and OpenBOR are a free, fully functional game, which includes
music, and features six playable levels plus a bonus level. It is available
for many systems

News/release from Red Squirrel
D2-D3 Switcher is a simple PSP homebrew to switch easily from CF 5.50GEN-D3 to -D2 and viceversa. It works changing only the peagasus.prx in Flash0. Returning to D2 (using the D2's peagasus.prx) you will can use those savedatas that appear corrupted in D3 or play those games that have issues with D3 (such as Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, etc...). But remember to come back to D3 when you want to play those modern games that require it.

Infinity Ward has announced that Modern Warfare 2's Resurgence Pack will launch for PC and PlayStation 3 on 6th July in the US, with the European PS3 version hitting on 7th July.
Community man Robert Bowling also tweeted that the launches would be accompanied by a double-experience event.
Based on the Xbox Live pricing, the Resurgence Pack is likely to cost the same as its predecessor - $14.99 - when it launches for PC and PS3.
It consists of five multiplayer maps - remakes of Call of Duty 4 maps Strike and Vacant, and three new efforts called Carnival, Trailer Park and Fuel.
Like the Stimulus Package expansion released earlier this year, the Resurgence Pack was exclusive to Xbox Live for 30 days.

Housemarque has said that the 3D update to its stunning PSN shooter, Super Stardust HD, also significantly boosts elements of the existing 2D version of the game.
Writing for the official PlayStation Blog, Housemarque CEO and co-founder Ilari Kuittinen said that the original Super Stardust HD only utilised around 50 per cent of the SPU power available, so the original game code was upgraded to run in the studio's brand new engine.
Housemarque talked about this process in a Digital Foundry interview back in January. The enhanced tech, combined with the SPU overhead, made an effective 720p120 a reality, but also allowed for improved graphical fidelity in 2D mode.
The original game's 1080p mode actually ran at 1280x1080, with the hardware upscaler expanding the image outwards to simulate full HD. The new engine sees Super Stardust HD running at the full 1920x1080 at 60FPS for the first time. The game's 720p mode also gets a useful boost in terms of image quality with anti-aliasing bumped up to full 4x MSAA.
There's also a very useful performance upgrade for those who purchased the additional split-screen co-op pack. The existing Super Stardust runs this section of the game at 30FPS. Thanks to the upgrades added for the 3D version of the game, the horsepower is not there to boost this to a full 60FPS.
Kuittinen also revealed that development on the 3D upgrade was actually carried out without access to any of the new Bravia 3DTV tech.
"We had the first 3D version of SSHD running in autumn 2009. We didn't have a proper 3D television at that time and we had to use paper anaglyph red-and-green (or cyan to be exact) glasses to see the 3D image on our monitors," he said. "The images we could produce didn't even have proper colour in them, but it was still really impressive."
Suffice to say, even if you don't own one of the new 3D sets, the new update is well worth a download, especially as it's free.

Masahiko Sato is a professor at Tokyo University and a video game creator. Sato is one of the brains behind Intelligent Qube, an early PsOne game where players set traps for approaching cubes while dramatic music plays in the background.
Sato’s most recent game, Influence, also involves cubes. This time players use influence to make them disappear. Influence spreads to the panels next to you and the floor underneath. Use too much and cubes might pop up on the other side.
Sony released Influence as an 800 yen ($9) downloadable game on May 27 in Japan. While Influence hasn’t been announced anywhere else, it seems like Sony is going to release the puzzle game overseas. Influence popped up in the ESRB as a PSP and PlayStation 3 game. Huh, that’s interesting Influence was only a PSP title in Japan.

No, not a “malicious” action game, an action game called Malicious.
Osaka-based Alvion opened a teaser site for Malicious today, but didn’t say much about it. We know this title is for PlayStation 3 (more specifically PSN) it’s an action game and slated for this year.
Malicious looks quite different from Alvion’s last game, Poupeegirl DS, a girls fashion game based on a popular PC community.

With E3 just a few days away, it looks as though Sony could be set to unveil a new iteration of the PlayStation 3.
The new models have been outed by the Federal Communications Commission, as spotted by Engadget. They're named CECH-2501A and CECH-2501B. Sexy.
Don't get too excited though - the only difference seems to be with regard to hard disk configuration.
A pair of new debug units are also listed, titled DECH-2500A and DECH-S2500A. "Interesting since a debug unit is typically only required when there's been a change in the chips on the motherboard," points out Engadget.
Sony's E3 conference is on Tuesday, so if there's any news to be had you can expect it then.

As tends to happen around this time of year, another countdown site has popped up, this one on the Japanese PlayStation site. It's counting down to the start of a beta test for ... something, with the countdown against a black background, with some thunder noises for ambiance.
Well, not just for ambience. The thunder accompanies a faint lightning effect, which illuminates a faint Patapon-esque scene in the background (above). But why would a new Patapon game need a beta test? What if it featured (gasp) online multiplayer? You'd be all pata pata and your friend would be like pon pon and it would be awesome. We'll find out in around five days!

Self-described as "bohemian independent developers," The Bearded Ladies are making their debut on the PlayStation Network later this month with Landit Bandit, a "casual-helicopter-adventure game." Players assume the role of Marley, on a quest to go back to The Big City in his incredibly fragile wooden helicopter. "It's Moonlander, in 3D," David Skarin simply summarizes.
In addition to a single player campaign, there's two split screen modes: co-op and a competitive "duel" mode. As with many other PSN games, global leaderboards will rank your performance as well. Landit Bandit is scheduled to release in Europe first: June 23, for 12.99 Euros. North America can expect a July release.

MotorStorm: Apocalypse game director Matt Southern has told Eurogamer that his initial reaction when he heard about the similarities between his game and Black Rock's Split/Second was to hold the course.
Apocalypse, unveiled this evening, takes place as apocalyptic earthquake decimate an unnamed American city, while Split/Second is about overcoming an environment being torn apart by controlled explosions.
"I heard about it fairly early on from an outsource partner when we were already well under way with this concept, and the decision for me was very easy - stick to this vision," Southern explained.
"All we're really seeing here is other people who work in our genre trying to excite and trying to take it somewhere else. And it won't be the first time that it happens while we make this game because we started it so early."
MotorStorm: Apocalypse is the third game in the PlayStation 3-exclusive racing series. The original and its sequel, Pacific Rift, were noted for their impressive, vast courses and the multiple routes it was possible to explore within them.
At the time of the first game's launch it marked a departure for Evolution - usually associated with WRC rally titles - and a demonstration that the racing genre can support more than just accepted archetypes.
That's a view that the likes of Black Rock, Blur developer Bizarre Creations and other UK-based racing teams have tried to build upon in the intervening few years, to greater or lesser success.
"The UK's full of racing developers, some absolutely outstanding ones, and I would include the likes of, people like Sumo [Digital - OutRun 2 developer] that I don't think don't get anywhere near enough credit for the outstanding racing games they make," Southern told Eurogamer.
"We all know each other, and I think it's very nice that we try and support each other, try and outdo each other and keep each other on our toes."
