The debut trailer for LittleBigPlanet 2 created more questions than it answered, most of them relating to the sequel's compatibility with DLC for the first game, and how the new features promised in said trailer would function. A handful of these queries have been put to rest by a FAQ post published on the PlayStation.Blog.
For instance, the post confirms that all objects, costumes and decorations collected in the original game should carry over, except for objects using a graphical glitch or exploit. More importantly, QI host and wildlife enthusiast Stephen Fry will reprise his role as the game's omniscient narrator. However, the FAQ also references "custom Voice Acting," a feature with a capacity for hilarity that we've yet to be able to comprehend. For more answers to your burning questions, check out the full LittleBigFAQ.

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is taking his trendy self to London.
There he'll be promoting the launch of PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on 18th June.
Kojima and art director Yoji Shinkawa will attend two events at HMV's Oxford Street store. The first is on Friday, 18th June from 4pm to 6pm; the second is on Saturday, 19th June at 1pm.
Both Kojima and Shinkawa will be signing game inlays and offering polite smiles for those that turn up. The latter are not guaranteed.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker famously brings four-player co-op to the gruff hero's series. So far, we've liked what we've seen.

Free content redeemed using a code should now show properly on the in-game store, and bugs relating to Darkspawn Chronicles Trophies are no more.

Valve's Gabe Newell has given his perspective on PS3 in a new, hour-long video interview, which you can watch right here.
The Valve boss - who has made some close-to-the-bone comments about Sony's system in the past - told 5BY5 that the PS3 needs to become "open like a Mac" rather than "more closed like a Gamecube".
EA boss David Demartini told CVG last week that developing the PS3 version of Valve's The Orange Box was a "challenge situation" for the publisher.

Suggestions that Rockstar San Diego’s newest project Red Dead Redemption cost $100 million to develop is not based on insider knowledge or available figures.
The source of the claims, a Daily Mail report, wrote that “Rockstar Games are thought to have spent up to $100million on the long-awaited project”.
The Daily Mail has since told Develop that separate reports arising from this claim is case of crossed wires.
The national paper said it sought the $100 million figure by searching various industry sites for news reports relating to development budgets.
The paper discovered that the most ever thought to be spent on a game project was indeed $100 million – the budget allegedly set aside for GTAIV – and theorised that Red Dead Redemption therefore cost up to $100 million to build.
“It’s not based on anything we have heard about,” the paper said.
Red Dead Redemption, built by Rockstar San Diego, is sold into retailers this week.
High-profile projects routinely carry with them sizable development budgets. Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi recently said that Gran Turismo 5 cost $60 million to build during its protracted development phase.
Yet Develop has recently heard from numerous industry professionals that publishers are tightening their grip on budgets – a direct consequence of the global financial fallout.
Avalanche Studio’s CEO Christofer Sundberg said that he had seen first-hand how publishers are reigning in on their budgets and costs.
“We’ve always been in the $20 million-plus budget area, but last year I saw things adjust to over $10 million,” he said.
“I think it’s a sign of the global economy and the bad times we’ve gone through.”

We expected the slightly redesigned PS3 slim to be announced at E3 but it seems some units with the new 40nm RSX chip have already made their way into stores.
Over at the CheapAssGamer forum, users have been able to get ones from Target and from Fry’s Electronics, with the new CECH-2101 models sporting a smaller 40nm RSX chip alongside a 45nm Cell, bringing reduced power consumption and hopefully cheaper costs.

Doujin publisher Rockin’ Android made a deal with Sony Online Entertainment to bring Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa to PlayStation 3. At least one of these games is coming to PSP too, according to the ESRB.
The video game rating board rated Hitogata Happa for PC, PlayStation 3, and PSP. At this time, a PSP version has not been officially announced. We’ve seen PSN to PSP ports before like Everyday Shooter so a move like this isn’t out of the ordinary. It’s pretty sensible, actually. If Platine Dispositif is making a PC to PS3 port they mind as well make a PSP one too.

The controversy over the high price tag for Modern Warfare 2's Stimulus Pack DLC did little to hurt sales apparently, as Activision confirms over a million gamers have downloaded the map pack through PSN.
The $14.99 pack has soared past the milestone breaking PSN records on the way, according to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, who Tweeted: "Thanks to the 1 Million+ playstation users who helped the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package break day 1 & week 1 download records on PSN!"
he Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus map pack got off to a storming start on Xbox 360 too. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package shattered Xbox LIVE records as more than one million gamers worldwide downloaded the new map pack from Activision and Infinity Ward in the first 24 hours alone, surpassing the 2.5 million mark within the first week," said the platform holder.
Modern Warfare 2's next DLC pack, the Resurgence Pack, will be released on June 3 for the same $15 or 1200 Microsoft Point price, and will similarly deliver five maps - three new and two from the first Modern Warfare.

Q-Games released some welcome news for those of you eagerly anticipating PixelJunk Shooter 2, as well as those who don't know whether or not they should be eagerly anticipating it. The sequel to the PSN shooter is "full steam ahead, anchors away and all that ... commotion to that order," Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert said in a PlayStation Blog post. He promised that not only will Shooter 2 be larger than the original game, but that "it will have some features that are new to the PixelJunk series in general."
If you are not intrigued about the sequel simply because you haven't experienced Shooter, Q-Games has something for you too. On May 25, Cuthbert said, a demo of the original PixelJunk Shooter will be released on the PlayStation Network. If you like that, you can buy PixelJunk Shooter, like it, and then join us all in waiting for 2.

When Assassin's Creed 2 publisher Ubisoft released the game's two missing chapters as DLC, some of our commenters claimed that they were going to wait for a "Game of the Year" edition to be created at some point in the future. Well, we hope that you futureseers live in the UK, as a listing for "Assassin's Creed 2: Complete Edition" has popped up on two UK retailers sites, brandishing new box art and packing every piece of content available for the game into the box.
CVG spotted it first at Play.com, though the new edition is also found on ShopTo.net, as well as on Amazon's UK site. For £27.99 ($41.35), buyers pick up the entirety of AC2, the Battle of Forli and Bonfire of the Vanities DLC packs, and "three Templar secret locations (Palazzo Medici, Santa Maria del Frari, and Arsenal Shipyard)" previously available only in a limited edition release. It doesn't appear that the re-release will be arriving in other parts of the world just yet, but we've reached out to Ubi all the same for clarification. And if the retailer listings are correct, we'll see the AC2 "Complete Edition" land on retailer shelves on June 4.

Frontier Developments chairman David Braben has told Eurogamer that the studio is still determined to develop and release Elite IV.
Eurogamer has been told by multiple sources that the game was in pre-production stages until recently but has since been put on hold.
"We don't comment on rumours," Braben told us in response. "There have been recent staff changes on the project, and our commitment to the game is as strong as ever."
The game was originally mentioned several years ago in connection with PC and consoles, and our sources confirmed that these were the target platforms.
The original Elite, an open-ended space trading game, was written and developed by Braben and Ian Bell and released for numerous platforms in the 1980s.
It was followed by Frontier: Elite II and Frontier: First Encounters in the early nineties.
Frontier Developments is also working on The Outsider, about which relatively little has been heard, although our sources indicated that a huge team is in full production on the multi-platform techno-thriller.

May 19th, 2010, 19:36 Posted By: wraggster
New research from Nielsen Games has shown that, contrary to popular belief, the release of a big game isn't necessarily enough to motivate consumers to buy a new games console.
In fact, wanting to play one particular game was cited as the least motivating factor in buying a console by gamers questioned for the survey, coming out as far less important than Blu-ray capabilities, price reductions and online capabilities.
For its research, Nielson quizzed 700 active gamers aged 7-54 who did not currently own a PlayStation 3 but were "definitely" or "probably" interested in buying one in the following six months.
The company interviewed the gamers over a three week period prior to, during and after the release of God of War III on the console, using the game as a lens to determine how important it would be in motivating purchases of the PS3.
However, the results showed that it was of little relevance, with just 12 per cent stating that one specific game would be a motivating factor in their decision.
Instead, the most motivating factors were Blu-Ray capabilities, the recent price reduction of the PS3 and the library of games currently available, which were cited by 65, 63 and 62 per cent of those questioned respectively.
62 per cent said that their decision was motivated by wanting to upgrade from the PlayStation 2, 56 per cent said they wanted the console in order to connect with friends that also had a PS3, and 50 per cent said they were interested in the PS3's other online capabilities.
49 per cent were interested in the PS3's other multimedia capabilities. 42 per cent wanted the console for online multiplayer, and 36 per cent said they were motivated by offers bundling an HDTV with the PS3.
Despite the fact that buying a specific game ranked lowest on the list of reasons for acquiring a PS3, God of War III was the most popular game named among those that did list it.
From a total of 20 PS3 titles, which also included Heavy Rain, Modern Warfare 2, LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5, 33 per cent named God of War III, followed by Final Fantasy XIII with 13 per cent.
"Not to be overlooked is that nearly half (49 per cent) cited interest in the console for its multimedia capabilities," noted Nielsen on its blog.
"This is especially interesting because the tagline for Sony's recent marketing campaign, 'It only does everything,' touts the entertainment versatility of the PS3 even as it features specific high-profile games, including GOW III, in select ads.
"Considering the data, it appears as though this marketing strategy complements consumer sentiment. While many potential PS3 buyers will see GOW III as an important asset, more often the game will be considered one of many reasons to acquire the console rather than the sole motivator."

May 19th, 2010, 17:48 Posted By: wraggster
Electronic Arts has called the port of Valve's Orange Box onto PS3 a "challenge situation" - and admitted that the release didn't quite live up to the developer's expectations.
The Orange Box - which contained Half-Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2, among others - was ported onto PS3 by EA's UK team.
It won wide acclaim from the press - hitting an 89 per cent average on Metacritic - but some critics bemoaned frame rate issues, and the SKU didn't hit the 95+ heights of the PC and Xbox 360 SKUs.
Indeed, Valve would later call the PS3 port a "stepchild version". The developer told CVG in February that it regretted elements of the release - adding that it didn't put its "best foot forward with the PS3 community".
EA Partners boss David DeMartini told CVG: "Valve focuses on 90-rated everything: 90-rated marketing programmes, 90-rated people, 90-rated games.
"They have a focus on excellence. What they do with all their partners, is they hold us to that same standard. If you don't reach it, they're going to get a little prickly - and appropriately so.
"If you can't operate at that level as a publishing and distribution partner, you shouldn't be participating with Valve. That's their expectation. I view it as a continuing challenge to delight them."
When it came to the question of the PS3 port of the Orange Box, DeMartini commented:
"To my earlier point, I think the Orange Box on PS3 was 86-rated; around that point. It was still very good and the team in the UK did a great job. It was a challenge situation.
"We were trying to do parallel development. Valve hadn't been on PS3 and they had made some statements about the platform which didn't exactly help. It really was a challenge situation.
"What it did point out - and it reinforced this for Valve - is that they like to have control over everything to do with their intellectual property and the games that they make.
"I don't know if we'd do another situation where we'd be doing one of the platforms and they'd be doing the other platform.
"But it very well could be that the PS3 is coming of age enough so that they would develop on it. I don't know that, but I think gamers can take it that where there are substantial platforms, Valve is certainly going to be on those platforms."
The 'unhelpful' statements DeMartini alludes to include Valve boss Gabe Newell's assumption that PS3 was "a waste of everybody's time" - something for which he later apologised to owners of the console.

Research company Nielsen has published a new report which claims that Blu-ray (and not gaming) is still the primary reason most consumers buy a PlayStation 3 console.
Nielsen's latest research was based on an in-depth poll of 700 people, quizzing each of them on the various factors and reasons behind their decision to buy (or not to buy) a Sony PlayStation 3.
65 per cent of respondents said Blu-ray playback was the main reason they wanted to buy a PS3 hardware, compared with 62 per cent who were buying the console for its gaming features.
God of War III test
"The prevailing logic goes: make a must-have video game and it will have an influence on the consumer's decision to invest in the necessary hardware," reads Nielsen's report.
Not so, it would seem, going by the latest results.
"While it is assumed that high profile game titles can move gaming systems, recent Nielsen Games research suggests that consumers are driven by a myriad of factors. Surprisingly, the purchase of a specific game title actually ranks lowest in a list of purchase motivators.
"Over a three week period prior to, during and after GOW III was released, Nielsen interviewed more than 700 active gamers ages 7-54 who do not currently own a PS3 but are definitely or probably interested in acquiring the system in the next six months to better understand the factors behind their purchase intent.
"Among those gamers motivated to acquire a PS3 because they are looking forward to buying a specific game, GOW III was the clear winner. However, overall results indicate that specific game titles rank as the least frequently cited reason for being interested in purchasing a PS3."
