Source says PS4 is based on an AMD processor and will have an optical disc drive
Developers have been receiving PlayStation 4 dev kits, according to a report.
“Multiple sources” have apparently confirmed toVG247 that a new ‘Orbis kit’ is currently shipping to developers, and that it’s housed in PC casing.
There are to be four versions of the dev kit, says VG247. A previous version was essentially just a graphics card. The version shipping now is a “modified PC”, and the third version, appearing in January, will be close to final spec. A final version will be delivered to developers “next summer”.
A select number of US developers have attended a “disclosure meeting” at Sony’s offices this week, with the intention of explain to developers what the machine is capable of, detailing hardware and showing a set of presentations. Further meetings are due to take place in the coming weeks.
The source has said that Sony is only referring the machine as Orbis – first mentioned in a specs ‘leak’ in March this year, and is not using the words ‘PlayStation 4’ in the meetings at all.

The next PlayStation has received a hardware update – before the console has even been officially announced.
VG247 reports that new versions of the PS4 dev kit, codenamed Orbis, are now being shipped to developers around the world.
This will be the second of four dev kits due before the PS4 launches. The previous version was basically a graphics card, while this iteration is housed in a modified PC card. A third version, said to be close to final specifications will be sent out in January, with the final dev kit arriving in the summer.
Few details have emerged about the actual hardware itself, but VG247's sources claim PlayStation 4 will once again use Blu-ray and comes with a 256GB hard drive "as standard".
It is also based on AMD's A10 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), which is essentially a combined CPU and GPU.
Developers claim Sony's hope is for PS4 to run 1080p60 games in 3D with "no problem", and to give users more access to everything the system has to offer while they're playing games. For example, they will reportedly be able to buy DLC from the PS Store mid-game before returning to gameplay.
Apparently system and product updates will be handled in the background and PlayStation 4 will "always be in standby mode".
More details on the gamepad are expected this month, while developers claim Orbis will be officially announced "just before E3".

Sony's PlayStation business suffered a decline in both sales and operating income for the second quarter of FY12.
For the quarter ending September 30 2012, the company's game division reported revenues of ¥148.2 billion ($1.85/£1.15b/€1.43b), down 14 per cent year-on-year from ¥176 billion on a constant currency basis. Operating income also declined year-on-year, from ¥3 billion to ¥2.3 billion ($29m/£17m/€22m).
Sony attributes the decline to falling sales right across its hardware line: the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 sold a combined total of 3.5 million units during the quarter, a significant drop from the 4.9 million units sold in the same quarter last year; the PS Vita and the PSP sold a combined total of 1.6 million, a slight year-on-year decrease from 1.7 million units.
"We are enhancing the line up of handheld software ahead of the year end holiday, and we are engaging in various promotions in an effort to expand the PS Vita Platform"
Masaru Kato, CFO
However, the PlayStation business reported gains in software sales: PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 games sold 41.4 million units in the quarter, up from 40.2 million last year; PS Vita and PSP games sold 8.7 million units, up from 8.2 million.
Sony has lowered its forecast for handheld hardware sales in FY12, from the 12 million units expected in its August report to 10 million. The company's console sales forecast remains at 16 million units for the financial year, while packaged software sales are expected to be equivalent to FY11 - around 196.7 million units.
The company as a whole showed signs of improvement, largely due to pervasive restructuring and cost-cutting measures that includes an expected 10,000 redundancies worldwide by March, 2013.
Overall, Sony reported revenues of ¥1.6 trillion ($20b/£12.4b/€15.5b), up 1.9 per cent over the same quarter last year. Net losses for the quarter were reduced from ¥27 billion to ¥15.5 billion ($337m/£208m/€260m) year-on-year.

As previously announced, the trilogy will arrive first in US on Xbox 360 and PC on November 6. The EU date for those platforms has today been confirmed as November 9.And for PS3 gamers, the fun kicks off on December 4 in US and December 7 in Europe.
The box-set, which in the US will cost $59.99, marks the first time Mass Effect 1 (released on Xbox 360 in 2007) will be released on Sony's PlayStation system.
BioWare has previously confirmed that Mass Effect 1 will get a standalone release on PS3 as a download title via the PlayStation Store, for those who already own its two sequels.
The trilogy will also include DLC content for all three games although details vary for each platform.

Your favorite visual novel about romancing a group of samurai is about to get less romantic and more violent. Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi is a spinoff for PSP, in which you control the six characters from the previous game in an alternate history version of ... well, what was already an alternate history.
Set in the late Edo period in Japan, the story follows a young woman, Chizuru, searching for her lost father, accompanied by the Shinsengumi. Players will take control of any of the Hakuoki characters, in two modes, one faithful to theHakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom storyline and one "alternate."
Aksys will release this unlikely spinoff on PSP "soon;" no specific date was revealed.

Michael "Shagg" Washington has failed in effort to sue to Take-Two regarding the alleged use of his likeness in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Washington, who as well as being a model was also a backing singer for US hip-hop group Cypress Hill, had argued that that San Andreas star CJ was fashioned on him, The Hollywood Reporterstates.
So upset was he that he moved to sue Take-Two for a massive $250m in damages. His case hinged on a meeting in 2003 in which his discussed his former involvement in street gangs with San Andreas’ developers. He also appeared in the game’s credits.
But having already been thrown out of court by a judge once, the Californian court of appeal has backed the decision, concluding that Washington had not sufficiently demonstrated that he was the CJ character.
"Plaintiff is relying entirely on CJ's physical appearance in the game, but that appearance is so generic that it necessarily includes hundreds of other black males, the judge stated"
Music stars have a mixed history when it comes to suing games publishers. No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani successfully sued Activision over the use of her likeness in Band Hero, Dee-Lite’s lead singer Lady Miss Kier failed in her efforts to convince courts that Sega had ripped off her likeness in music title Space Channel 5.

The Mass Effect Trilogy will arrive on PS3 just a month later than it does on Xbox 360 and PC.
The Xbox and PC SKUs will be released in Europe on November 9th. The PS3 version will subsequently be released on December 7th.
Mass Effect Trilogy includes, as the name might suggest, all three releases in the famous sci-fi RPG series dating back to its debut release in 2007, its 2010 sequel and the most recent outing, 2012’s Mass Effect 3.
It’s the first time that the original game in the trilogy has been available on the PS3.
The DLC included in each SKU will differ, oddly.
The Xbox release includes only Mass Effect 2’s Cerberus Network but not any of the content released for the other two games, though this is available to buy separately. The PC versions adds free downloads of Mass Effect’s DLC Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station.
The PS3 title, meanwhile, includes all of that and Mass Effect 2’s DLC.

Sony has received China Compulsory Certificate, and is one step closer to going on sale in China.
Techinasia reported that the console had finally received the required safety certificate.
The certificate was issued in July and is valid until 2016.
Consoles are technically banned in the country and have been since 2000, although are often readily available on the grey market imports. They can also be sold if they are labelled as home entertainment devices.
The news is not a guarantee that the console will go on sale in China anytime soon. The Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo Wii are not currently available in the country, and there are other issues around game releases and cost to be considered.
The PS3 first launched in Japan in November 2006.

PlayStation 3-exclusive shooter Dust 514 will remain in closed beta for the rest of the year, developer CCP Games has told Eurogamer.Early invites to try the EVE Online spin-off were sent out this summer - but a full launch (or even a move to open beta) won't happen until 2013."Things are going well," CCP Games exec David Reid said. "We'll be in closed beta through the end of 2012, but it won't take much longer. With a bet this big you want to get things right."Eurogamer's Dust 514 preview, written in August, found the game "unsteady" with "a lot of work" still needing to be done.Reid said these criticisms merely showed the game was still in a "real beta" phase."You should expect to see some rough edges, some things not working so well," he said. "Other recent console betas have tended to be working launch demos. We're doing something unprecedented here, and we want to get everything right before we join those two worlds."

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD's "Revert Pack" DLC has been pushed back until the first week of December, Activision has announced on the game's Facebook page. Originally, the DLC pack containing select levels from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was slated to hit consoles in early November.
"It's later than all of us hoped, and we're sorry about that," the update reads. When it does launch, however, the DLC will be available on 360, PS3 and PC, as the Steam version of the game is now available. If nothing else, the delay will at least allows more time for our shattered knee-caps to heal after trying to do some of this stuff in real life. Getting hit by a speeding golf cart can do a lot of damage, as it turns out.

Last week, Cave Story's ESRB rating was updated to include new platforms: PS2, PS3, Vita, and Xbox 360 in addition to the existing 3DS, DSi, Wii, and PSP ratings. We contacted developer and publisher Nicalis to determine whether to expectCave Story on even more platforms than it's already on.
In short, no. The ESRB ratings are not indication of definite plans. "We submitted all the consoles so that we wouldn't have to resubmit in the future," producer Tyrone Rodriguez told Joystiq, "IF [emphasis his] we ever decided to bring to those consoles."
The good news is that you are very likely to already have a platform to playCave Story on.

Vikings are set to invade 1970s England this Tuesday, November 6. When Vikings Attack, from new developer Clever Beans, launches for PS3 and Vita as a PSN cross-buy title. The game tasks players with corralling English villagers and uniting them against the invading viking hordes – the more villagers you've amassed, the bigger the items you can pick up and hurl.
Anyone who actually lives in England (or elsewhere connected to the European PlayStation Network) can shave 30 percent off the game's £7.99/€9.99 price by pre-ordering it now through the PS3's PSN Store. Shaving the beard off a viking, however, is considerably more difficult and not something we should ever have tried.

Armchair soldiers who prefer to play FPS games while standing in the middle of their living room and/or in front of their computer have a new option when it comes to chasing their goofy bliss: The MAG II from All Interactive Entertainment, which launches on November 13 at $150.
Compatible with both the PlayStation 3 and PC (don't let the 360-lookin' buttons fool you), the controller senses movement through "Motion Sensing and Gyroscopic Induction movement tracking," according to the press release, which we'd assume translates to "accelerometers and gyroscopes." From the looks of things, moving the gun through space is interpreted as moving the right analog stick, allowing the player to aim at things by, well, aiming at things.
The device's onboard software can be updated via downloadable firmware updates and an onboard USB port, through which All Interactive Entertainment plans to "unlock new functions and gameplay modes." Pre-orders are currently underway at Amazon and Gamestop.

Ever since 2000, game consoles have effectively (if not very assertively) been banned in China. There's already been signs of a warming attitude with official plans for the Nintendo 3DS XL coming this December, but Sony may have slipped out hints of a fuller thaw without anyone noticing until now. A Sina Weibo user just discovered that the 160GB and 320GB versions of the previous-generation PlayStation 3, the CECH-3012, passed through China Compulsory Certificate approval in July -- an odd move when the console couldn't actually go on sale in an official capacity in current conditions. Certification is still far from a guarantee that Sony will actually sell the PS3 in the country, most of all when it's a slightly outdated model of a console line that's edging ever nearer to a replacement. The government certainly hasn't commented on what the regulatory clearance means. If it ultimately leads to more gamers in Chengdu or Shanghai, however, we're all for it.

via http://wololo.net/2012/11/03/vita-te...-game-exploit/
If you missed both the Ubanix and the Mad blocker alpha exploits, today might be your lucky day. Japanese Developer Teck4 has ported TN’s eCFW to a new game exploit. The game is, as I type this, still available on most stores.
A few weeks ago, developer frostegater announced he was working on a new game exploit in order to bring Total_Noob’s eCFW to even more Vita owner. Sadly, he discovered while working on international versions of the game, that porting his exploits to all locales would not be as easy as expected. Luckily for us, Teck4 also had his own exploit in the work, and was nice enough to share it with the world. Frostegater eventually contributed to this exploit as well, by porting it to the US and EU versions of the game.
The game with the vulnerability is Gravity Crash Portable. In order to run TN’s eCFW through Teck4′s exploit, you will need a legit copy of that game, that you need to purchase online for your Vita on Sony’s PSN. It is available in most stores, but not all of them. If your locale doesn’t have the game and you still want the exploit, it is recommended you create an account in another locale, and buy the appropriate PSN card (for the right store) online.
As for the previous game exploit releases on the Vita, we have gone through a “Ninja” release over the past few weeks in order to let people know about the game a few days before the public announcement. If you’re interested in joining our future Ninja releases, you just need to subscribe to our forum at /talk. On that topic, I might have an article to write about leakers and the sites that blindly let them leak…but on the other hand I am not sure I want to provide free advertising to the sites that jeopardize the scene.
The files for the exploit will be distributed in a few days. In the past, Sony has usually removed exploited games from their stores within 48h, and we have generally released the files after that.
Please note that I haven’t personally tested the JP exploit or its ports to the EU and US versions, but Teck4 and frostegater are both trusted members of the scenes, as well as their testers.

PlayStation Plus isn’t new to the PlayStation ecosystem, in fact it’s over a year old. The PlayStation 3, of course, was first to receive the content heavy subscription plan, and when the Vita launched back in February questions were raised as to when it would finally be available there as well.
Luckily, after many months, news is finally being revealed regarding PlayStation Plus on the PlayStation Vita. However, will Plus really be worth the price on the Vita like it is now on the PS3?
Perhaps these are my own opinions, and feel free to leave your own below, but PlayStation Plus on the Vita might not be as worth while as it is on the PS3.
If you are like myself, you own a PlayStation Portable, or have owned one at some point in time. With PlayStation Plus on the Vita, I feel Sony will push more the PSP capabilities of the Vita, than the first party and third party Vita titles.
Of course, the PSP has a huge number of titles that are surely worth while to play, most couldn’t even be put into one blog post, but Sony honestly really needs to push the more Vita specific titles as much as they can.
With the slowly increasing sales of the Vita as exclusives enter the scene, the only thing holding the Vita back from being the best portable gaming device on the market would be said titles.
If Sony can manage to push this front of the Vita, as it seems they are trying more and more to do now, then I believe the vita will exceed our expectations into the near future.
We know that PlayStation Plus on the Vita will offer the following:
Full PSP Games
Full PSP/PS3/Vita Minis
Full PS1 Games
Full Vita Games
Discounts
and even more beyond all of that, from Plus’ offerings in the Japanese Vita store.
Perhaps only the future will tell if Plus will be worth the value on the Vita, and to that very statement I hope very much to see that it is.
Leave your own thoughts below.
Do you think PlayStation Plus will be worth the price on the Vita? Do you plan on purchasing a subscription in the future for your Vita?

Evilsperm and Cyberskunk have released REBUG 3.55.3 and 4.21.1 REX EDITIONS, and the '999' DOWNGRADER. Check their post over at rebug.me for details and download links. Quote: 'It has been a long time since the last firmware release, mainly because we did not see a reason to keep releasing cfw after cfw just to changes files in dev_flash. We wanted the next release to be something different and we are quietly confident it is.'"

Jpcsp SVN r2830 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r2829
Added fallback when the Shift_JIS charset is not supported by the JVM.
r2830
Implemented sceMt19937Init and sceMt19937UInt: random number generator.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s official UK launch event will take place at HMV’s Oxford Street store next Monday (November 12th).
A 1,000 strong audience is expected, all of whom will receive goody bags. Treyarch developers will be on hand to sign copies of the game and a ‘Zombie Bus Stop’ will offer fans the chance to get hands-on with a number of props featured in the game.
A multiplayer tournament will also be available.
The store will open its doors at 10pm.
“I am a huge fan of Call of Duty, so on a personal level I am really excited and can’t wait for it to come out,” HMV’s category manager for games Andy Pinder stated.
“I hear the new perks are great and I’m particularly looking forward to seeing what they’ll be like. This is undoubtedly the games release of the year, which is great news not just for fans but retailers alike as we head into Christmas.”
There’s no let up for games retail at the moment. Tomorrow sees the long-awaited release of Halo 4, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be unleashed to the world next Tuesday (November 13th).

Major developers believe Sony can be the No.1 platform holder once again, thanks to its ambitious move into the free-to-play market.
The firm has just released a free version of SingStar, with customers having to pay for the music. Meanwhile, developer CCP is creating a free PS3 FPS called Dust 514, which also adopts the microtransaction model.
“Sony making that game is a great step forward, and they should be applauded,” said Cevat Yerli, the boss of Crysis developer Crytek, which is now building free games.
“If Sony embraces free-to-play as a major way for PlayStation, that could be the key console.”
CCP marketing boss David Reid agrees: “It’s natural that the console challenger is going to be more ambitious and take more risks than the leader.
“Last generation I was at Xbox and we were having our arses handed to us. And Xbox was the one that was trying to do crazy things with Xbox Live and so on.
“Five years later, things have changed and now Sony is being more aggressive. It is a cyclical business and it feels like we’re coming around to another big turn again.”

During the development of open world fantasy action role-playing game Dragon's Dogma Capcom learnt new tricks that give Devil May Cry the feel of 60 frames per second, the publisher has claimed.Ever since it emerged that DmC, developed by Cambridge-based studio Ninja Theory in collaboration with Capcom Japan using Unreal Engine 3, runs at 30 frames per second - half that of previous games in the series - fans have cast doubt on its quality. Those who wait for the PC version will of course be able to run the game at a silky smooth 60 frames, but PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners are locked at 30.Director Hideaki Itsuno, who has directed previous DmC games, admitted 60 frames per second “would be better”, but insisted the game will be responsive enough to satisfy fans - and a lot of that is down to Dragon's Dogma, which also runs at 30 frames.“During the course of the development of Dragon's Dogma we did a lot of experimentation and happened upon some techniques for working with Unreal Engine, some fairly elaborate techniques, that allow for a controller responsiveness that gives the player the feel of 60 frames per second,” Itsuno told Eurogamer.

Persona 4 Arena isn't coming to Europe this year, now leaving it without a release window. Zen United, the company distributing the fighter, announced the delay via the Persona 4 Europe Facebook page. Zen says it will announce a projected release date once it receives the EU build, but currently the distributor doesn't even know when that build will be ready.
Europeans originally expected the game on August 31, in the same month as the North American launch. Following that delay and today's news, fans are now left uncertain when the game will actually be released. This further delay only adds to scrutiny over the decision to enforce the game's region lock, a decision Atlus claims it took to prevent the North American version'cannibalizing' its Japanese counterpart. Maybe Atlus should've consulted Murphy's law before making Arena the first PS3 game to have such a constraint.
The Persona 4 tie-in fighter may be beaten to European retail shelves by Vita re-release Golden. Publisher NIS America is projecting a tentative February 22for the latter's release.

Still nothing concrete to show as Team Ico continues work on engine and technical aspects of title
Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida has refused to commit to a 2013 release date for troubled game The Last Guardian.
Speaking to Jeuxvideo, Yoshida said he did not want to commit to a specific schedule through fear of disappointing consumers waiting for the title.
He added Team Ico was still hard at work on the project however, despite a lengthy development, and was busy working on the engine and the technical aspects of the title.
“No, sorry, I can't say that... Because the last time we talked of a date for The Last Guardian, we had ultimately disappointed many people,” said Yoshida, as translated by Google.
“But I can tell you that the team is working hard on the project and in particular the engine. It is precisely because the teams are working on the technical aspect of the game that we have nothing concrete to show you today. I look so now the right time to be able to introduce you to The Last Guardian and speak in complete serenity of a release date.”

Once you've completed all twelve of Assassin's Creed 3's main story Memory Sequences you'll unlock a new side quest called Animus Synching. This can only be played online and appears as an additional menu option on the map screen.
The objective of this side quest is to place Pivot markers on the maps and use them to triangulate the position of new Pivots. There are ten of them in total to track down, and each Pivot located unlocks a new cheat in the main menu.
Pivot markers can only be dropped at your current location on the map by going through the Animus Synching menu, and once you've placed at least three of them here they'll join up and indicate a highlighted green area that contains the next Pivot.

ShopTo and Zavvi both have it listed for release on PS3 on November 30, with the former offering a budget £15.85 price and the latter a £37.45 price.Neither lists any further product information, so it's unclear if this is just a re-release or if it'll offer any additional features over 2008's original. Trophy support for the game, which was finally made available via a patch in August 2012, could be included as standard.
Konami's UK arm declined to comment on the legitimacy of the product when contacted by CVG.
Back in August the publisher launched a special website dedicated to Metal Gear Solid's 25th anniversary, which is designed to keep fans up to date on all events and news surrounding the milestone.

The Gran Turismo sales-o-meter is now at 67.89 million, according to the latest stats published by developer Polyphony Digital. Meanwhile, Gran Turismo 5 is in the slipstream of double figures, now up to 9 million units sold worldwide. While it still ranks as the lowest-selling main entry in the series (on PS3), it's closing in on fourth-placed Gran Turismo 2 (9.4 million).
The majority of those 67.89 million series sales come from Gran Turismo 3,Gran Turismo 4, and the original Gran Turismo, speeding in at 14.9, 11.6, and 10.9 million respectively. As impressive as those figures are, Gran Turismo isn't the best-selling racing series out there. That accolade belongs to Need for Speed, which drove past 100 million sales back in 2009. We somehow suspect the two series' sales-per-game figures tell a different story.

Uncharted: Fight for Fortune is an upcoming casino/cards-based game for Vita, according to listings on Brazilian and Australian ratings boards. The Australian classification lists One Loop Games as the developer, a studio responsible for mobile games God of War: Betrayal and Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile. One Loop also worked on Full Spectrum Warrior and The Saboteur. The Brazilian classification details Uncharted: Fight for Fortune's platform as Vita, and the genre as "casino/card games." However, it may also be coming to PS3, as the Australian board lists it as multi-platform.
One Loop's website lists the developer as working on two "secret projects," with one described as the studio's "first big game" as well as being completed.

Inspired by the Grand Theft Auto IV DLC expansions The Lost And Damned and The Ballad Of Gay Tony, the game will feature three customisable protagonists (pictured on the magazine cover) between whom players can switch at will. Also revealed are the first details on mission design – confirming that there will be several “multi-tiered” heist missions, building on Three Leaf Clover, arguably GTA IV’s finest hour – as well as the host of side missions and activities players will be able to get up to in Los Santos’ huge, varied sprawl.

Rockstar has at last laid bare its ambitious plans for Grand Theft Auto V.
As detailed by US mag Game Informer and reported by CVG, Rockstar says that GTAV's gameworld is bigger than GTA San Andreas, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption combined. It even features a fully modelled ocean floor that can be explored.
The reason for the return to a San Andreas-like setting was also revealed – basically, Rockstar felt it didn't quite nail the LA vibe last time. And it wants to put that right.
In other words, it's unlike anything we've ever seen in a game of this type before.
The game also features an as of yet undefined “new technology” that alters how players interact with the world. All of the gameplay mechanics have been built from the ground up, with shooting having received a total revamp.
Three stars take the limelight – retired bank robber Michael, hardened criminal Trevor and car salesman Franklin. Players can switch between characters at any time and each will have their own skills and elicit different reactions from others in the gameworld.
Furthermore, each will go about their daily business when not under a player's control.
Heists comprise a central element of the gameplay and will be far more detailed and complex than anything seen in a GTA game before. Some of these will see the characters unite to work together, with players able to swap between them and their various roles.
RPG-style character customisation will not feature, though each will have an assortment of additional activities not featured by the others. Expect the likes of base jumping, tennis, a “full” golf game. Yoga, triathlons and jet skiing.
Confirmed vehicles include BMX, mountain bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs, aeroplanes and helicopters.
The cinematic leanings of Max Payne 3 are said to have had a significant influence on the game's art direction.

Sony’s PS3 has reportedly received a certification of quality from a Chinese safety standards body, leading to speculation that the world’s most populace country could be about to lift its ban on home consoles.
The super-state banned such hardware in 2000 amidst concerns about their potential effect on the country’s youth.
The move would be music to the ears of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as it would open up their platforms to 1.3bn potential new customers, whose affluence is increasing by the day.
TechnologySpectator reports that The China Quality Certification Centre certified two PS3 models back in July.
However, Sony reps emphasized that this does not automatically mean it is planning an entry into the Chinese market.
"This does not mean that we have officially decided to enter Chinese market," spokesperson Mai Hora stated. "We recognize that China is a promising market so we will continuously study the possibility."
Indeed, the certificate issued to Sony doesn’t necessarily mean that the Chinese authorities have changed their stance as The China Quality Certification Centre doesn’t have any regulatory authority.
It should also be noted that in the absence of consoles the Chinese market hasn’t stood still. Indeed, customers have instead turned their attentions to online social games and mobile gaming – conditions that console makers might find difficult to crack.

Seven members of Team Six reprimanded for revealing classified materials
Seven US Navy Seals have been disciplined for revealing secrets after working as consultants on EA’s recently released first person shooter Medal of Honor: Warfighter.
As reported by CBS News, the team were paid to act as consultants for two days during the summer on the title in an effort to enhance the game’s realism.
Whilst, for obvious reasons, it is unclear of the nature of the secrets revealed, it has been revealed that the Navy Seals used classified material given to them by the Navy when providing support on the title.
The seven members of Seal Team Six were all still on active duty during the time of consultancy, with one member having previously taken part in the raid against Osama Bin Laden.
They have all now received letters of reprimand, which prevents their chances of promotion, whilst the they have also had half of their pay withheld for two months.

We’ll admit to having scoffed a little at PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’s cast of combatants, but a split-second glimpse of a silhouette at the close of a new trailer released yesterday changed all that. The game’s final boss, it appears, is Polygon Man, the mascot used in promotion of the original PlayStation in western markets that made Ken Kutaragi go “absolutely insane”.

Whether you have streaming-savvy children, or are just a big kid yourself, Hulu has added a new section to its bulging catalogue specifically for you. Hulu Kids puts all the ad-free shows available to Plussubscribers in one place, and splits them into categories for filtering, say, only dinosaur-related programs. The section has its own website, or can now be accessed through the obvious option in the Browse menu. PS3 owners will be happy to know the Hulu Plus app has been updated, too, bringing back the Blu-Ray remote functionality that was, for some wacky reason, removed in the last update. And, what better way is there to relax after a humiliating public defeat than dropping the controller, and taking in a calming dose of SpongeBob?

Portal 2's PlayStation Move-enabled add-on, Portal 2 In Motion, will release on the EU PlayStation Store next week, on November 14.
The Portal 2 In Motion campaign introduces new gameplay mechanics including scaling, rotation of objects and "portal surfing"."These new abilities are all required as the player progresses through an increasingly challenging set of test chambers that look familiar from Portal 2, but require new thinking to solve," the EU PlayStation Blog explains.
In Motion will be accompanied by a free patch introducing PlayStation Move support for the entire Portal 2 single-player and cooperative campaigns.
The Portal 2 In Motion DLC will be priced at €9.99/£7.99 on PSN, with a special launch promotion of 30% off for PlayStation Plus members.

Rockstar has explained why the studio is not featuring big name talent as central characters in Grand Theft Auto V.
Speaking in the latest issue of Game Informer, Dan Houser said the issue is both logistical and philosophical."We've done two or three movie shoots for this game spread out through various three week shoots," explained Houser. "I don't think there would be many celebrities that would be available even if we wanted to spend the money on them for the amount that we've used them for."
"The good thing about most famous actors is they can actually act very well or they can do their shtick really well. Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's the other. I think it was really useful on the PS2-era games for bringing these somewhat simplistic characters to life."
Over the course of Rockstar's three PS2-era GTA games the firm signed big names including Ray Liotta, who voiced Tommy Vercetti in Vice City, and Samuel L. Jackson, who played Officer Tenpenny in San Andreas.
According to Houser, the fidelity of current generation Grand Theft Auto games makes famous faces a potential burden rather than a boon.
"When we went to PS3 and 360 I think it would become a distraction if you were like, 'Well, that's a famous person.' Suddenly these characters start to feel like they were alive a lot more and you need that to sell them," he said.
"As long as you have good actors, not knowing them actually is an advantage in terms of bringing the game to life. I can't see us moving past that for major parts in the game".
West Coast rapper The Game is believed to be reprising his role as B Dup from San Andreas for the sequel.

Clan of Champions rampages onto PlayStation Network on November 20. The multiplayer brawler which seeks one ultimate warrior was developed by Acquire, makers of Way of the Samurai and Tenchu games. It bustled onto Steam last month. and now NIS America is bringing it to North America's PSN in two weeks time. A European release is scheduled for a later date.
There remains no news on the Xbox 360 version initially mentioned by NIS America, so it seems the Clan may settle down on PS3 and PC for now. And by settle down, we mean beat the bejeezus out of each other until one warrior is left standing. It's a clan with a plan.

It was only a matter of time before more developments were made in the PS3 scene. Now, the 4.31 isoldr & lv2ldr keys have been released.
The PS3 scene has been moving constantly forward. The progress has been substantially good news for users while not so much good news on Sony’s end.
Now to add insult to injury an Anonymous source has recently released the isoldr and lv2ldr keys for 4.31 firmware. The keys have been confirmed to be legit and working too; which you can see below. Sony has not made any type of response to any of the recent hacking which means they’ve been defeated on the PS3 hacking front per say. Sony has however been moving forward on sending out PS4 dev kits which isn’t too surprising considering how the PS3 hacking is irreversible and unpatchable. We might see the PS4 arrive even earlier.
isoldr and lv2ldr keys by Anonymous source
[lv2ldr]type=SELFversion=0004003100000000revision=001Fself _type=LV2erk=0CAF212B6FA53C0DA7E2C575ADF61DBE68F34 A33433B1B891ABF5C4251406A03riv=9B79374722AD888EB6A 35A2DF25A8B3Epub=695984B7EE2EC2F77FCC3120150DCE7E4 480D84480DDD8C5940AEB6F79E63D17A8BA3E4E63B2BB06FC0 CE57E3BB8FC46ctype=30[isoldr]type=SELFversion=0004003100000000revision=0001self _type=ISOerk=63565DBE98C3B1A52AADC907C47130FE57A10 734E84F22592670F86ED2B0A086riv=953F6A99891B4739358 F5363A00C08B9pub=26BE7B02E7D65C6C21BF4063CDB8C0092 FE1679D62FA1A8CCC284A1D21885473A959992537A06612pri v=ctype=15The release is incredible news for developers to keep pushing forward and make better, more stable, CFWs. However, a new development means big things for the end user. Developers from EOL have found a way to install 4.30 CFW on just about any PS3 that has had a base firmware of 3.56 previously with a flasher, no downgrading required. You can read the full English release of this method bellow:
Note*: If you attempt please be careful as there is always a risk of bricking in which you are responsible if you do!
“The ones who have as least version 3.56 on their PS3 are in luck this week.
With the collaboration of Varicela and Luckymas we achieved install CFW 4.30 E3 in this type of consoles.
With this method we can install CFW (for now only 4.30) without doing a downgrade process from any OFW superior or inferior to 3.55 but not superior to 4.30. ( PS3 with a 4.31 ofw, for now its not possible and you could possibly brick if you do try)
WARNING: This method is VALID only for consoles with minimum OFW 3.56 with no metldr2.
To do this we will need this patches Patchv1 Three Musketeers:
Download here
We don’t need a dongle but we need a FLASHER to get our dump, there are many tutorials on EOL as well on other sites on how to do it with progskeet, E3 or teensy.
Once we have our DUMP we will patch these offsets:
patch1 : OFFSET 0C0010 LEGHT 6FFFE0patch2 : OFFSET 7C0010 LEGHT 6FFFE0patch3 : OFFSET 80000 LEGHT 20000patch4 : OFFSET A0000 LEGHT 20000patch5 : OFFSET 40000 LEGHT 20000patch6 : OFFSET 60000 leght 20000
Once patched will be write it with a flasher, start the PS3. Recovery will kick in and we will copy to a pendrive CFW 4.30 E3 with PS3/UPDATE folder structure. (If you were on 4.30 OFW the console will start normally, in this case we have to enter in recovery and update to CFW 4.30 E3 from there).
THIS WAS TESTED IN MANY 3.56 PS3′S. ( WE SUPPUOSE THAT A PS3 WITH OFW MINIMUM 3.60 NO METLDR2 WORKS BUT THIS WAS NOT TESTED).
WE DON’T HELD RESPONSABLE FOR BAD USE OR IF YOU BRICK DOING THIS.
Data that will be useful to you:
- ON PS3 WITH 3.56 OFW MINIMUM YOU CAN’T DOWNGRADE NEVER FROM 4.30 BUT YOU CAN DO IT WITH OTHER FUTURE PATCHES TO ANOTHER CFW OR JUST INSTALL OFW IF YOU GET TIRED.
- THIS PATCHES ONLY WORKS TO INSTALL CFW 4.30 E3 (If you need with multiman i can translate that) OTHER CFW’S STILL BEING 4.30 WILL INDICATE THAT THE DATA IS CORRUPTED WHEN WE TRY TO INSTALL FROM RECOVERY.

A few days ago, Teck4 and Frostegater released a new game exploit for Gravity Crash Portable. This exploit allows people who own that game to run Total_Noob’s CEF (a Custom Firmware inside the PSP Emulator) on their Playstation Vita. Sadly, owners of the Asian version of the game were left alone, as the exploit had “only” been adapted to the JP, US, and EU.
Frostegater fixed this by releasing a port to the Asian version of the game today. I haven’t checked it myself, so please report success. I won’t go into details on how to run this or what it does, if you want details please check the original release thread here.

Developer Total Noob has announced TN-C for eCFW. TN is also looking for testers for another project and those with TN corruption issues.Developer Total Noob has some dible news as he has announced that TN-C eCFW will be coming soon for the Vita. He hasn’t said what will be included but you can expect various bug fixes. There is a possibility a new game exploit could be released but there is nothing confirmed yet, so stay tuned. TN is also looking for any VHBL users that are on firmwares under ofw 1.80, which is basically official firmwares 1.6x. He is also looking for users with corrupted ISO issues that break TNmenu, so if you have those errors he is asking for you to also contact him via email.

Despite conspiracy theorists who would love to see us not deliver, here’s, as promised, Teck4′s port of Total_Noob’s eCFW to a new game exploit for the game Gravity Crash Portable. As “expected”, the game Gravity Crash Portable was removed from all Sony PSN locales yesterday, following our announce 3 days ago of a vulnerability being discovered in that game, that would allow a malicious attacker to run Super Mario Bros on your Vita.
Hopefully, people who missed the Monster Hunter AND Urbanix AND Mad blocker alpha exploits had enough luck this time to catch this 4th game in time before it got pulled.
Teck4 ported TN’s CEF to the Gravity Crash game in JP, while Frostegater adapted this work to the EU and US versions. Total_Noob’s CEF is a tool running within the PSP Emulator of the Vita, which will allow you, among other things, to run most PSP homebrews (see a good selection of great homebrews and emulators here) and PSP plugins. Tools such as the Vita FTP will also simplify your file transfers, compared to the tedious official Content Manager Assistant.

Activision insists it takes street dates 'very seriously' following reports of early selling of Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
The firm told MCV that it is 'looking at appropriate action,' but insists that these incidents are the 'exceptions.'
Some consumers have received their copies of Black Ops II early, as certain online retailers - including online indie Simplygames.com – have sent the game out ahead of time.
"We take street dates very seriously," Activision's UK MD Peter Hepworth told MCV.
"The vast, vast majority has held the line. Everyone wants the big community event at midnight when the sales come through. I am aware of some exceptions. We are looking at appropriate action. But we are pleased to say we have got the support of all of the retail partners, and they are not causing these issues. They want to help us celebrate it at midnight tonight."
Call of Duty: Black Ops II launches tonight with over 6,500 retailers selling the game, with in excess of 2,000 midnight openings. There's a big launch event and there will be 'surprises' at the HMV official event at midnight.

The PS3 version of Quantum Conundrum will be made available to download at no extra cost to US PlayStation Plus subscribers this week.
The game will be added to the list of 'Instant Game Collection' titles as part of tomorrow's US PS Store update.Quantum Conundrum is a first-person physics based puzzle game, designed by one of the original Portal developers, Kim Swift.
The game scored a solid 8/10 in CVG's review, which called it "an intelligent, original, and charming puzzler that's held back by awkward platforming and erratic physics."
Also for US PS Plus members this week will be a 30 per cent discount on point-and-click adventure Machinarium, which will bring its price down from $9.99 to $6.99.

Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar and co-writer of Grand Theft Auto 5, has said the immense size of Los Santos was necessary to accommodate flying.
Last week Houser was quoted as saying thatGTA 5's world is bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA 4 combined. Now Houser has told The Guardian that players will be doing a lot of flying in GTA 5 so it was important to the studio that there's plenty of airspace.
"We wanted to make a big place, as much as anything, to allow you to fly," he said. "A lot of the decisions, we're talking about them here on a philosophical level, but they're also practical decisions, too: we're making a game. You have to understand the medium.
"On an obvious level we wanted somewhere big so you can fly properly - we have a lot of missions that involve flying, in helicopters or whatever, it was logical. Also, Jet skis work better around LA than they would in New York.
"We're using the environment to let us have toys we couldn't have had otherwise," Houser added. "And equally, we're using the story and environment to introduce missions that can be more extreme. In some ways we wanted the game to have a larger-than-life Hollywood feel; the stories we heard in LA, we wanted to capture them in the game. If the place isn't informing what we're doing, we're not using it correctly."
For details on bank heists, dynamic missions and underwater gameplay read our GTA V full details story.

"It was partly just to do something totally new," Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser told the Guardian about the use of three separate protagonists inGrand Theft Auto 5. "Partly, too, it was because at that point we were deep into the work on the two DLC episodes of GTA IV, and we thought, well, the bits where all the stories cross over is kind of cool, so why don't we just do that in one game? So okay, let's just do multiple characters."
The storyline of the game – and remember, GTA games have storylines when you're not just trying to jump motorcycles over buildings or create impressive piles of exploded fire trucks – follows a series of five to six "mega-heists" (the Guardian's term), and three characters who are all involved with the jobs, and with each other.
In fact, the protagonists spend more time hanging out together than with other NPCs, Houser said. "If you're playing as Michael and you want to play a game of tennis, you can call up Franklin and ask him. You are actually getting to see the main bulk of the story and also spend time with these people off-mission – that side of it gives it a vibrancy that's a lot stronger than with [Grand Theft Auto 4's] Roman or anyone else."

Right now, few companies do fan service quite like Activision-Blizzard, but then few companies have audiences as passionate as those for Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.
The UK launch of Mists of Pandaria was a timely reminder of the power that the industry's biggest brands hold over their acolytes. In the midst of retail woes, declining subscriber figures, and widespread concern over the long-term viability of the subscription model, Blizzard's MMO drew hundreds, perhaps thousands, of fans to the streets of London, standing in line for hours to attend an event for a game that most of them had already purchased online. Only a small handful of the industry's products inspire such enthusiasm, and Activision-Blizzard has at least two of that select group.
The other, of course, is Call of Duty, though the line outside the Oxford Street branch of HMV for the launch of Black Ops II is less impressive than that for Mists of Pandaria by an order of magnitude. Not that it matters too much, of course: even if Black Ops II doesn't break records like its predecessor, it's certain to generate more revenue and column inches than anything else released this year, Pandaria included.
And if you're looking for fan devotion, it's sitting in a tent at the very front of the queue. Taylor Pelling, 19, has been waiting for the big moment since Wednesday, a full six days before I approach him to discuss the game for which he is putting his life on hold. Evidently, his sacrifice is less for Call of Duty and more for the studio that the series' fans once snubbed: Treyarch.
"Taylor Pelling has been waiting for the big moment since Wednesday, a full six days before I approach him to discuss the game for which he is putting his life on hold"
“For me, it feels like Treyarch always try to bring something new to the table, whereas Infinity Ward just rehashes old designs,” he says. “Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Infinity Ward. I bought Modern Warfare 3 and returned it two days later - I didn't like it, so I went back to World At War and Black Ops.”
For Taylor, the key distinction is in the multiplayer. When it was first handed half of the Call of Duty franchise, Treyarch was treated with no small measure of suspicion by die-hard followers of Infinity Ward. That has changed. The fact that Black Ops is still more popular online than Modern Warfare 3 - a game released a full year later - is testament to how much fans have warmed to the one-time interloper. Treyarch not only added the enormously popular zombies mode to the mix, it has also proved more consistently innovative in the franchise's all-important multiplayer modes.
“The times when I play campaign are the times when my internet goes down - that's it,” says Pelling. “I go straight to multiplayer.”
This is a more provocative point than it may first appear. When online play is your only focus - as it is for so many lining up for Call of Duty - the need for annual sequels diminishes. If Black Ops II fails to find the right mix, as Modern Warfare 3 did, Taylor will have no hesitation in returning to Black Ops post haste, with only the absence of any new map packs to deter him from doing so - a factor, it should be noted, that has as much to do with Activision's product strategy as it does the needs and desires of Call of Duty players.
Indeed, Taylor tells me that he wouldn't mind if the campaign disappeared altogether, and while not everyone would agree with his view, the overwhelming majority of people here tonight aren't among them.

Rockstar has released two more Grand Theft Auto 5 screenshots, offering another glimpse at one of the game's missions.
One shows the player flying a helicopter towards downtown Los Santos, while the other shows one of the three main protagonists, Michael, rappelling down the side of a building (thanks IGN).Both offer a good look at the impressive landscape that'll make up part of GTA 5'sshockingly large world, and a demonstration of the game's new lighting effects at work during a warm sunset.
A third shot shows another helicopter flight over the Hollywood-like Vinewood sign, and another view of the mountains in the distance.
Last week we gathered all the first GTA V details from Game Informer magazine in the US. Have a read for a breakdown on each of the three main characters, dynamic missions, and more.
The second GTA V trailer will be released tomorrow.

MCV is trying to recall the last time we posted a story containing a direct feed of a trailer that hasn’t been released yet.
Such is the power of Grand Theft Auto.
Rockstar is going live with only the second trailer for game tonight. It’s possible we may catch some first glimpses of the game’s many new features, and perhaps even the ambitious multiplayer mode that the studio has been alluding to in the press.
Make sure you check back here at 4:00pm UK time

Consumers who use the new PS3 lv0 bootloader key to play games illegally online are being banned from PSN.
“Unauthorised software for the PlayStation 3 system was recently released by hackers,” a Sony statement reads. “Use of such software violates the terms of the ‘System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System’ and the ‘Terms of Services and User Agreement’ for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.
“Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorised or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.
“To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.
“In order to help provide a safe, fair, online environment, consumers who we believe violate ‘Terms of Services and User Agreement’ for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network or the applicable laws or regulations of their country or region risk having access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services terminated permanently.”
How effective the move will be remains open to debate, considering that hackers now reportedly have access to the complete dataset the PS3 uses to identify itself on PSN servers.
It’s also worth noting that it was Sony’s attempt to restrict owners from freely using their console that started this all off in the first place – hacker George Hotz argued that Sony had no right to remove Linux functionality from the console and that he and others should be free to sue the hardware they own as they please.

US retailer GameStop has said that it sold approximately 1 million copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 worldwide at its midnight launch events.
GameStop boss Tony Bartel told Bloombergthat the game looks set to break records for the retailer."Black Ops II is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time," said Bartel. "GameStop sold more than 1 million units worldwide during our midnight launch period."
That's just a fraction of what's expected from the game's full day-one sales, as analyst Michael Olson predicts launch day sales of between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in the US and UK, according to the report.
Activision said last week that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has the potential to become the best-selling game of all time, with pre-order numbers exceeding that of Modern Warfare 3 - "the most successful pre-order program of all time".

Activision is aware of and working to fix a number of issues being reported with the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Multiple users have reported experiencing connectivity and freezing problems on the official Black Ops 2 forums. The freezing issue isn't limited to the PS3 edition of the shooter, with some Xbox 360 users also running into trouble, although it seems to be more common on Sony's console.
Activision Support said on Twitter: "We are aware of connectivity issues that some players are facing in Black Ops II on PlayStation 3. We are working on resolution, thank you."
It also retweeted some advice for PC players having problems which was originally posted by a developer at Treyarch, who said: "If you are experiencing crash or performance issues, please make sure your drivers are updated."
In our Black Ops 2 review we called the shooter "another explosive Call of Duty package, even if it doesn't manage to topple previous heights." See what other critics had to say in our Black Ops 2 review round-up.

Capcom has revealed that its hotly anticipated Devil May Cry reboot will be getting a demo on Xbox Live and PSN on Wednesday 21st November - or the previous day for US PSN accounts. The Capcom Unity blog post noted that it will contain two missions; a regular level and a boss fight. Based on the blog's screenshot, it sounds like this will be the E3 demo I previewed. The demo will show off a few of the game's difficulty modes, with the harder Son of Sparda setting made available after completion.Just yesterday Capcom announced post-launch DLC for DmC in which you play as Dante's twin brother Vergil. It will be a pre-order bonus in the US and Canada at Gamestop / EB Games and cost 720 MS Points / £7.29 / €8.99 for everyone else upon release.

Lone Survivor, the side-scrolling survival-horror game from developer Superflat Games, is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, creator Jasper Byrne has revealed. After months of being stranded on the PC and Mac, Curve Studios will rebuild the entire code base from scratch to bring Lone Survivor to Sony's gaming platforms.
Curve Studios is the London-based house responsible for Fluidity andExplodemon, the latter of which is a quaint retro-inspired game that shows the studio has chops when it comes to pumping out the pixels. No release date on the PlayStation versions has been revealed, but Byrne says he'll offer updates through his Twitter account as progress is made.

Sony has launched a multi-million pound TV advertising campaign to ensure Wonderbook: Book of Spells is firmly in the minds of consumers ahead of its arrival tomorrow.
The advert will air on Sunday 18th November during Surprise Surprise, on Monday 19th during I’m a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here and on Friday 23rd November in a break during Loose Women.
The campaign is already in mid-flow; having begun last Friday during This Morning and continued over last weekend in during You’ve Been Framed and The X Factor.
Wonderbook is Sony’s latest attempt at broadening into a wider market and it’s faith in the project can been seen with the move to get Harry Potter scribe JK Rowling on board to write exclusive content for the game.
The game demonstrates the latest evolution in the PlayStation Eye technology and will land on shelves tomorrow (Friday November 16th).

With millions of day one sales, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was always going to experience a couple of hiccups.
Sadly for owners of the PS3, both of the early issues are dogging only their systems.
Some players have taken to the European PlayStation forums to complain of online connectivity issues when attempting to access Black Ops II’s multiplayer mode.
“We are aware of connectivity issues that some players are facing in Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 3. We are working on resolution,” is the official response from Activision support, with Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar adding via Twitter: “We are indeed up and running, but we are also aware not everyone can connect. We are investigating something with our partners at Sony.
“We are currently testing backend matchmaking changes that we think can help with this. I don't have a timetable, or I would tell you. The ‘Waiting to balance teams’ thing is something else entirely. More on that shortly.”
Elsewhere, other PS3 owners have taken to the ‘net to claim that their DLC codes aren’t working properly, preventing them form accessing Nuketown 2025 and Nuketown zombies maps.
Bear in mind, of course, that Black Ops II has already sold millions of copies, with the vast majority of customers enjoying a trouble-free experience.

Latest Call of Duty beats Modern Warfare 3 first day sales by $100 million
The year's biggest gaming blockbuster Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has garnered more than $500 million in sales in its first 24 hours.
The exact number of individual game sales has yet to be revealed, but the money generated beats previous record-setter Modern Warfare 3, which had accrued $400m in its first day of release.
It remains to be seen whether Black Ops 2 will also smash past Modern Warfare's five days sales which generated the title $775 million, even breaking through the $1 billion barrier just 16 days after release
“With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.
“Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars,” the two most successful movie franchises of all time. Given the challenged macro-economic environment, we remain cautious about the balance of 2012 and 2013.”

Sony's PlayStation 3 console has shipped more than 70 million units since its launch in 2006, the company has announced.
As well as hitting the impressive landmark on November 4th, the firm said it had also shipped 15 million PlayStation Move controllers as of November 11th.
Microsoft recently revealed that it had sold over 70 million Xbox 360 consoles, although both this and the PS3 are dwarfed by sales of the Wii, which has sold around 100 million units.
Despite the impressive life-time sales, all the console manufacturers are now gearing up for the next-generation of systems.
Nintendo's Wii U is set to launch on November 18th in the US and November 30th in Europe, whilst Microsoft and Sony have yet to officially announce the existence of a new Xbox or a PS4.

Anyone who makes the erroneous claim that videogames are all about ‘escapism’ probably hasn’t powered on their game console in several years. We’re always online now, our activities broadcast to whoever cares to look. The theory is that we want to be social, that we’re entirely happy with being reachable no matter where we are or what we’re doing. Why else would we carry mobile phones with us at all times?

Black Friday's coming and you know what that means: time to move some units. For two days only starting November 23rd, Sony's knocking an additional $50 off existing PlayStation console bundles. Consumers with the wherewithal to withstand the shopping frenzy can snare the Ultimate PS3 Value Bundle (i.e. 250GB console, Uncharted Dual Pack, inFamous Collection and PS Plus trial) or one of three WiFi-only PS Vita deals (Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Lego Batman 2 or Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified) at select retailers for $199. Of course, if M for Mature's not your bag, there's always the family-friendlier Wii U to consider.

Ubisoft has confirmed plans to release an enormous glitch-fixing update for Assassin's Creed 3 next week.
The update will tackle an impressively long list of bugs for both the single-player campaign and multiplayer modes, as well as a few balance tweaks for improved gameplay.Regular glitch occurrences have been a common complaint of AC3 from both critics and gamers alike, and this will be Ubisoft's second patch - after a significant launch-day update - tackling the game's issues.
Ubisoft says to expect the update "by the end of next week".
The full list of changes is over on the official forums.
Assassin's Creed 3 sold approximately 3.5 million copies in its first week of availability, according to publisher Ubisoft.

Activision promised that this would be “a true Call Of Duty experience” on Vita. Perhaps it should have told Nihilistic Software, which has made something that resembles Call Of Duty in the same way that a movie trailer resembles a feature-length film. As a far smaller package, the intention is clear: Black Ops Declassified is meant to be Call Of Duty: The Edited Highlights. It’s a pity, then, that Nihilistic’s aim is as wonky as it makes yours – the latter a result of temperamental right-stick control and capricious auto-targeting.

There’s something amusingly contrary about TikiPod’s desire to take the most powerful handheld on the market, and force it to play games that appear to be running on decades-old hardware. Boot up PlayStation Mobile’s Rock Boshers DX and you’ll swear the London-based studio is trolling Vita owners, as a tape loading screech all too familiar to wrinkly Spectrum gamers slowly heralds the arrival of the title screen – and the chiming chiptune that follows recalls Jonathan Dunn’s classic Robocop theme. For veteran gamers, this is a powerful hit of nostalgia even before you’ve hit the start button.

The PlayStation network version of indie fighting game Skullgirls will be receiving a rather sizable update next Tuesday, November 20. Dubbed "Skullgirls: Slightly Different Edition," the patch makes a multitude of balance and gameplay changes to all characters, in addition to correcting bugs and adding new features/modes.
Amongst those new features are the addition of in-game move lists for each character, a new Tournament Mode that streamlines the user interface and menu hierarchy for tournament settings, cross-compatibility between North American and European/Australian matchmaking regions in online play, individual character tutorials and a lot more.
No date has been given for when the patch will be applied to the XBLA version of the game, though the patch notes do promise to greatly improve load times whenever that happens. via http://wololo.net/2012/11/13/has-son...on-on-the-ps3/
While browsing the Spanish dorums daxhordes, I noticed a very interesting topic.
Apparently, after officially stopping production of Ps2 system, Sony has started to hire Ps2 developers to work on Ps2 emulation debugging.
Now, I’ll just use this as an excuse for one of my lectures, this time, about Ps2 emulation on the Ps3 and the history behind it.
The Ps2 was a very complex system, it was hard to code for and this has also resulted in being harder to emulate. This explains why the Vita can emulate the psp, and why Gamecube/Wii emulation was done faster than Ps2, achieving higher compatibility in less time.
To achieve Ps2 backwards compatibility, Sony didn’t even resort to emulation, they basically grabbed a Ps2 and incorporated it into the Ps3. Both the Emotion Engine (the Ps2′s CPU) and the Graphics Synthesiser (the Ps2′s GPU) were soldered into early Ps3′s mother board. This allowed perfect Ps2 compatibility for the Ps3. The Ps3 models that used this hardware were the Japanese and American 20Gb and 60Gb models.
As time passed on, Sony decided to cut costs, they did so by removing the EE and using the Cell BE (Ps3′s CPU) to emulate it. At first, this caused a decrease in compatibility, due to the crappy EE emulator, but it then became better and games such as MGS3, which previously lagged, now run smoothly. The models that saw this change were the 60Gb Pal and 80Gb American models.
Wanting to reduce more costs, Sony decided to remove the GS and tried to emulate it using the RSX (the Ps3′s GPU). This was a complete catastrophe, not only didn’t it work well, but it dropped compatibility down to 30%. Now, this (crappy) emulator exists in every Ps3 out there, so in a sense, all ps3s are backwards compatible, but they have that disabled for discs. This is the reason we see Ps2 games on PSN, because these Ps2 games were lucky enough to be on that 30%.
Here is a sum up of Ps3 consoles and their BC status:
Ps2 Hardware: EE GS IOP
20/60Gb US/JP: Hardware Hardware Software
80Gb US, 60Gb PAL: Software Hardware Software
Others: Software Software Software
So, what is needed to have full backwards compatibility?
First, the RSX can only partially emulate the GS, to fully emulate it, the RSX might need help from the Cell BE. The problem is, the Cell BE is already fully used:
Core: task
SPU0: IOP (the ps1 CPU found in the ps2)
SPU1: EEDMA
SPU2: Isolation
SPU3: IPU
SPU4: GSEGFIF
SPU5: PS2-SPU2
SPU6: VU1
SPU7: not used (factory disabled)
PPU0: PS2-Devices
PPU1: Emotion Engine
As you can see, the way this emulator works right now leaves the Cell with no room for anything else (except the SPU5, which is about 50% loaded, and the SPU7, which is not used), so to have the Cell BE assist the RSX in emulating the GS, there has to be a complete re-map of what the SPUs and PPUs do to get more room. Maybe enabling SPU7, but if Sony disabled it for a reason, I’m willing to bet that reason was overheating.
With all this said, it’s up to Sony to decide what they want to do to the Ps2 emulator, will they leave it like that? will they improve it? will they re-write it? only time will tell.

via http://wololo.net/2012/11/14/uofw-th...t-for-the-psp/
Some of you might have heard of uOFW, a project that aims at fully reverse-engineering OFW 6.60 on the PSP with the goal of writing an open source Firmware for our beloved device. Others might remember the Utopia project with a similar goal. Finally, most of you might wonder what the point of such a project would be, since we all have CFW on our PSPs… Today, in the hope of answering some of these questions, I’m interviewing Felix and Artart, the leads of one of the most ambitious projects on the PSP.
Wololo: Hi guys, could you describe the uOFW project in noob-friendly words? If I am a regular PSP user, what does this project do for me? What is its ultimate goal?
Felix & Artart: It’s quite a tough question, but although the project is very technical and not noob-friendly, its goals are very simple to understand.
uOFW is a project of reverse engineering the PSP firmware: in short, it means we are discovering how the PSP operating system works. In other words, it means we are looking into all the software which is used to make your PSP work as it does. From the binaries of this operating system (like a computer executable), we take its source code: it means we discover the way it works in a both human-readable and machine-readable way, in a conventional programming language (here, the C language).
As an end user, the project does nothing for now… we are “just” making a new PSP firmware, identical to the original one, but free of rights (it can be modified freely), and in a way which lets us modify it how we want. This means alternative firmwares may appear, opening your PSP to more opportunities and functionality… of course that part depends on what people will do with uOFW, not on uOFW itself. Still, with the documented source codes of the modules (and the working modules) we make adding new features to the firmware easier than ever before!
In addition, uOFW can also lead to progresses in emulators. As an example, the audio.prx module reverse engineering is heavily used in PCSP (practically untouched from what I heard), and it’s working perfectly.
A major part of the uOFW project is the documentation about the PSP modules and the PSP hardware itself. We intend to create the first compact archive of PSP hardware/kernel information. For now, a lot of information about it can already be found on the Internet, however, unfortunately, they cannot be found at a single place. Examples are the websites wololo.net and ps2dev, both being places where major information about the PSP can be found, but in many cases only in the form of bits and pieces, leaving much valuable information unfound (or can only be found after some search time). We want to change that with uOFW, adding module specific information right into the module’s source code. And it doesn’t end with that; we have setup a PSP wiki for the uOFW project as well, adding all information we find during reverse engineering which don’t get included into the source code.

via http://wololo.net/2012/11/18/release...ecfw-for-vita/
Developer Total_Noob has released TN-C eCFW with a huge list of improvements including compatibility for the Motorstorm and Super Collapse exploits. TN-C has also now become open source. Keep reading!
The long awaited and highly anticipated update to TNmenu by developer Total_Noob for all exploits is finally here, bringing a substantial update to just about everything. With TN-C Total_Noob has added compatibility for those still holding out on the Motorstorm and Super Collapse 3 exploits; something he was testing a while back. TN has also made this release open source which means other developers will be able to build and add new features to TN-C. With this release Total_Noob also released a statement that this will be most likely his last release. It’s very sad news; we can only say thanks and best wishes in your future endeavors.
“As promised, here is the new open sourced TN-C. This is probably my last release, because my priority is still familiy, friends and school If you continue my project, please keep it open source and call it ‘TN’ Best wishes.
~Andy, aka Total_Noob”
The release is packed with tons of bug fixes, fixes for compatibility issues and has an entirely new look. TN listened to users and fixed everything, making it the best TN release thus far. You can find a list of the full release and new features below including a tutorial on installing ISO/CSO and homebrew by TN. The download links can be found at the bottom with a preview of it. via http://wololo.net/2012/11/18/to-upda...-the-question/
The PSVita OFW Update version 2.0 is due out soon. It features some very attractive features and updates, the main one being Playstation Plus support for PSVita users and the 6 free titles. But, OFW 1.81 has proven to be the golden firmware in hacking the Vita so far, with the release of the first CFW for the PSP emulator. Chances are that OFW 2.0 patches the KExploit, with all of these things going on I am sure that most users find themselves in a dilemma to decide whether or not to update.
Today I am going to discuss the pros and cons of updating so that it may become clearer as to if you should update or not.
Pros:
•The biggest advantage of updating is Playstation Plus and their amazing introductory offer which gets you 6 games for FREE
•The PS+ 30 day free trial – Combined with the above, you can literally get 6 games without spending a penny.
•The ability to check your mail – This may not seem so important but, to some people like me this matters a lot. Being able to check my mail on a bigger screen than my smartphone on the go is very important to me. It also brings the Vita closer to being a cross between a tablet and a gaming console.
•PSN access – As we have all seen with the previous updates, as soon as a firmware update is issued you lose all access to the Playstation Network unless you update. Chances are this is also going to be a forced update just like all previous firmwares.
•Improved Web Browser – The web browser has been updated with better HTML5 support.
Cons:
•eCFW – The biggest con of updating is the loss of eCFW. Sony would never release any sort of update unless there was some ‘Security Vulnerability’ found, specially not an update packed with so many features, clearly all those features are there because Sony realized that people would have to be enticed to update.
•Homebrew – This actually links with eCFW but because we have had rumors of Sony having to rewrite the entire PSP emulator, there might be a possibility that they might have made big changes to the system in effect forcing us to start from the beginning again.
•Loss of ISO support – This is quite a controversial topic but lets admit it, most of us wanted eCFW for this, to be able to play the games we bought for the PSP on the Vita instead of buying them again.
To summarize there is lots at stake with this update, it is a hard decision but, don’t forget this isn’t the end of the scene, we will surely see more exploits in the future. On one hand you have a huge list of new features and on the other hand you have the awesome use of homebrew. So it is down to Update or not to update, that is the question.

Sony has lifted the lid on a brand new Uncharted game for Vita – Uncharted Fight for Fortune.
Rather than trying to replicate the IP’s PS3 experience a la Uncharted: Golden Abyss, this title takes a different approach. It’s an “action-adventure turn-based card game featuring the heroes and villains from the Uncharted universe”.
The game will be a digital-only release and will arrive in December. It is a standalone release and does not require a copy of Golden Abyss to play, although those who have played the game will be rewarded with extra in-game artefacts.
Players must create a team of recognisable characters from the game’s universe to use in battle with other players.
“The rich lore that surrounds the Uncharted universe gave us the opportunity to create Uncharted: Golden Abyss, complete with lush, artefact-filled environments,” the co-director of developer Bend Studio stated on theEuropean PlayStation blog.
“With over 300 treasures to be found, we wanted to find a way to allow our fans to delve deeper into the artefact collections and mysteries of the Uncharted universe.”

Ratchet & Clank: QForce (aka in US as Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault) has been delayed on Vita.
Originally planned to launch alongside the PS3 version this year, the Vita version of Insomniac's latest Ratchet game has been pushed back to January 2013.The PS3 version's release is unaffected, still due for November 27 in US, and late November in EU.
Sony says the delay is "to ensure that your experience is packed with all the action and polish you'd expect from a Ratchet & Clank game".
This will prove disappointing for those of you who were attracted to the offer of getting both versions for the price of one.
Sony ensures fans that the offer still stands; those who buy the PS3 version will be entitled to a download code for the Vita version - which will be compatible with cross-play - but you'll just have to wait until January to take advantage of it.
"To reward you for your patience, we'll be giving you the very first piece of DLC for the title, the Miniboss multiplayer skin pack, for free," adds Sony.
A more precise release date for Vita will be announced "very soon".

The PS Vita firmware update 2.0 does more than add PlayStation Plus to the handheld - it improves its web browser, too.Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida took to Twitterto confirm that the firmware 2.0, out in the US tomorrow and in Europe on Wednesday, makes the Vita's web browser a “small app”, so you don't have to quit games to use it.“That's little talked about but is a big change,” Yoshida said. Also, the browsing itself is faster. These changes are the result of “lots of effort” by Sony's firmware development team in Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.PlayStation Plus launches on PlayStation Vita on Wednesday 21st November 2012 in Europe alongside the 2.00 System Software update.Plus members get Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Chronovolt and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack as part of the Instant Game Collection. You get four games per month alongside the usual extras. The Instant Game Collection works across both consoles so you'll have a constant library of 14 games and will get at least five new games a month, what amounts to 65 games a year for both consoles. If you already subscribe on PlayStation 3 Plus will carry over to Vita at no extra cost.Additionally, game saves and trophies can be set to synchronise automatically. Plus nets you up to 2GB of game saves storage (1GB on PS3 and 1GB on PS Vita). Another feature is that the system will automatically start up and accept updates, so they'll be ready and installed by the time you want to use it again.

Despite releasing a patch addressing the issue, Activision is still receivingreports of Black Ops 2 freezing on PS3. Going by the post-patch thread on Activision's forums, users are experiencing a variety of lock-up issues, with some unable to get past initial loading screens.
Complaints about the PS3 version arose quickly after Black Ops 2's launch last week, with widespread reports of the game freezing and requiring a reset, and even of the console shutting itself off in-game. The complaints weren't tied to one particular event, although freezes commonly occurred during online multiplayer.
Activision released patch 1.03 on Saturday, November 17, specifically addressing the freezing issue. However, a day later the publisher said it's aware "some customers are still experiencing PS3 lock-ups after installing the patch" and that it hopes to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
While complaints are plentiful, the latest Call of Duty continues to sell. In the UK, Black Ops 2 enjoyed the fourth biggest launch ever for a video game, while worldwide it took in a whopping $500 million in its first day alone.

More developers can now create dedicated content for PlayStation Certified devices.
In a move to bolster its presence on open operating system-based devices through PlayStation Mobile, SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment) has initiated the PlayStation Mobile Developer Programme, including the official version of the PlayStation Mobile SDK.
The new initiative will aim to allow a wider range of developers to create dedicated content for PlayStation Mobile, as it rolls out across Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia.
Developers will also be able to easily distribute their content via the PlayStation Store on a commercial basis and market their games to gamers with PlayStation Certified devices and PlayStation Vista. The license agreement fee is reported to be at 7,980 yen annually.
Meanwhile, in addition to the technical support provided by SCE via the developers’ forum, whereby developers are able to exchange information, the will also be able to continue to develop content created with the open beta version.

Vita owners can now have access to the PlayStation Plus service courtesy of the Vita firmware update 2.0.
Sony previously announced that the service would be coming to the handheld and the addition forms one of several enhancements arriving with this system upgrade.
The update adds the ability to use the web browser in-game and the addition of wireless PC synching will enable players to transfer content between the handheld and the PC using Wi-FI.
Console gamers can now transfer folders from a PlayStation 3 or a PC to the Vita system and the upgrade also features enhancements to a range of Vita applications.
An Email app has now been added to the home screen of the handheld and the Maps application now able to showcase weather information.
Meanwhile, Turkish is now a optional system language and players can now select how they wish to be alerted regarding the type of notification.

It’s at the top of many gamers’ want list, and now Mirror’s Edge 2 looks a lot closer to fruition than ever before.
That’s according to ngmoco’s Ben Cousins, who formerly served as boss of free-to-play at EA, who took to Twitter to state: “It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE.”
The reveal comes after EA Games vice-president Patrick Soderlund told OXM that the company doesn’t want developer DICE to become a Battlefield-only studio.
“The DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that's intentional, because we don't want to become a Battlefield factory,” he explained.
"The minute we start saying 'you're going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life' they're going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That's why we have people who move around quite a bit. And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it.”

A trio of Sega’s AM2 titles are to receive digital re-releases on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
Sega’s AM2 system became an arcade standard in the ‘90s and also served as the basis for the company’s brilliant but ill-fated Saturn console.
Virtua Fighter 2 and spin-off Fighting Vipers both appeared in arcades and on Sega’s console, while the third confirmed new title, Sonic the Fighters, was a Japanese arcade-only release although it has subsequently appeared in Sega’s Sonic Gems Collection.
All three will appear on Xbox Live in Europe on November 28th at 400 Microsoft Points each. A European PSN release is scheduled for December 5th with each costing £3.69.

Nintendo's presence looms large in the fledgling category of game mascot fighters. For years, the company has had a monopoly on the concept with itsSmash Bros. series, essentially making it a genre of one. Sony may be the only other publisher with a large enough bench to support such a concept, and as a result PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale has been subject to many comparisons with Nintendo's beloved franchise (not all of them favorable).
All-Stars certainly wears its influences on its sleeve, but thanks to some clever ideas, it also earns its keep. This isn't just a carbon copy, but a well-designed game that could go toe-to-toe with Nintendo's fighters.

GameStop's Black Friday deals haven't officially hit its website or print ads, but an anonymous employee sent the sales over to Cheap Ass Gamer, and boy are they as juicy as grandma's holiday turkey.
GameStop's lead deal is an Xbox 360 250GB bundle that includes Skyrim, Forza 4 and Black Ops 2 – yes, the new one that we're pretty fond of – for $250. The PS3 250GB bundle runs $200 and includes five free games: Infamous, Infamous 2, Infamous: Festival of Blood, Uncharted, and Uncharted 2. The PS Vita White gets its own deal, bundled with Assassin's Creed: Liberation for $200. These three hardware deals are for Friday, November 23, only.
Also only on sale Friday is a range of games, including Battlefield 3 Premium Edition for $30, Forza Horizon for $40, Ratchet and Clank Collection for $20, Little Big Planet Karting for $30, Mortal Kombat on Vita for $15, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for $40 with the purchase of a new PS3.
Not labeled as "Friday only" is a Limited Edition 3DS bundle with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed and one of three Nintendogs games for $170. Used Kinect sensors with Kinect Adventures are $40 and used DSi XLs are $80.
GameStop also has a hefty software sale for the weekend, including Dishonored for $30,Assassin's Creed 3 for $50, Max Payne 3 for $20, Borderlands 2 for $40, and more, all for PS3 and Xbox 360. For Wii U (assuming you can get a Wii U console), Scribblenauts Unlimited, FIFA 13 and Batman Arkham City Armored Edition are $50 each, and Game Partyis $30. 3DS gets Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance for $20, among other games. For PC, Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 are $30, Cataclysm is $10 and some Sims 3 expansions are $20.
GameStop's "pick-up in store" system will work on Black Friday, and any item not in-store but available online can be ordered and paid for at the store, then shipped directly to the customer, which takes five business days.

PlayStation 4 might not be officially announced yet, but PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is the closest Sony can get to throwing a retirement party for PS3 without putting up balloons. The game is a scrappy 2D brawler in the mould of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros, a frantic free-for-all of characters from different games that’s been built as a celebration of the platform and its teeming, varied population.

November 23rd, 2012, 00:27 Posted By: wraggster
UK launch week sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were reportedly down over 20 per cent compared to those achieved by last year's series release, Modern Warfare 3.
That's according to the latest issue of MCV, which claims to have been informed of the annual drop off in sales by UK retailers.Nevertheless the shooter still enjoyed a very strong launch. Retail monitor Chart Track said on Monday that Black Ops 2 recorded the biggest UK launch of 2012 and the fourth largest of all time.
Black Ops 2's first week sales have only previously been bettered by 2010's original Call of Duty: Black Ops, last year's Modern Warfare 3 and 2009's Modern Warfare 2, although it should be noted that each of those titles launched on more than three platforms.
Black Ops 2 released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC last Tuesday, while a Wii U version will launch alongside Nintendo's new console on November 30.
The author of MCV's Call of Duty piece confirmed to us this afternoon that the trade mag's figures take into account sales of the Wii version of Modern Warfare 3, which released on the same day as the 360, PS3 and PC editions last November. However, the Wii version no doubt accounted for a relatively small percentage of MW3's launch week sales.

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 might not be out until next year but the retail price war has already begun.
Numerous outlets are inviting customers to pre-order the upcoming fifth main instalment in the series, with supermarket chain Tesco's online store currently the cheapest at £30.To redeem the offer simply add the game to your cart here and enter this code courtesy ofSavyGamer "TDX-RJMW". At checkout and £10 will be knocked off the £40 price tag.
The price is guaranteed, and should it drop further Tesco said it will refund the difference, so you've got nothing to lose. The code is unlikely to remain valid for an extended period, so use it while you can.
Need some convincing? We've gathered all the first GTA 5 details, including a breakdown on each of the game's three main characters, dynamic missions, and more.

The widely reported save corruption bug for Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation will be wiped out (instead of player's save files) in an upcoming patch. Eurogamerreported on the issue earlier last month and we've been poking Ubi with pointy objects ever since to get a legit answer on what's up. Last night, the publisher got in touch.
"Our team is in the process of finalizing the first patch for Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation,"
the Ubisoft statement to us reads. "This will address the save game corruption issue that you asked about [previously]. We'll have a better idea on the timing of the patch soon."
So, if you're grabbing Liberation during some Black Friday deal, if you can keep your animus instincts in check, it may save potential heartache to wait for the patch.

Sony is planning to release an update designed to fix a minor bug identified in the recently launched Vita firmware 2.00.

"We are preparing to update the system software as soon as possible to improve this condition."
Launched earlier this week, Vita firmware 2.00 introduced PlayStation Plus on the handheld, as well as new and revised applications.

2013 is coming, the PS3 is not getting any younger, and rumors on the PS4 are increasing. Some people were expecting an announcement at the Tokyo Game Show this year, but that didn’t happen, so we’re now all looking toward E3 2013 for some sort of public announcement from Sony themselves.
I was discussing with a source close to Sony’s game division, and we were commenting on some random article on the web that claimed the PS4 kept changing names. As far as I can tell, there as always been only 2 somewhat “official” names for the PS4: PS4, or Orbis.
This led my source to explain the PS4 would probably not actually be named the PS4.
That was for internal reasons at Sony he couldn’t immediately remember, but after thinking for a few seconds we all reached the same conclusion: the number 4 being an unlucky number in Japan (depending on the context, it is pronounced the same way as the word death, which is why you’ll never give 4 flowers as a present in Japan, or why some buildings don’t have a 4th floor), the next Playstation will probably not be named the Playstation 4, for cultural reasons.
Will the name Orbix stick? Not sure, as this might still be an internal codename, just like the Vita was initially codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable)
Just thought this was an interesting anecdote to share, and we will see if it turns out to be true… I mean, Final Fantasy 13 was crap, so clearly number superstitions mean something (ow, just kidding, stop throwing me those rocks! Ouch!)

A few days ago we showed you a work in progress of Acid_Snake’s port of VHBL to Vita’s Firmware 2.0. The Z replied quickly with his own youtube video showing VHBL running a few homebrews, using a VHBL port by Frostegater himself (yeah, expect to hear that name more and more, as he seems unstoppable these days).
I’m a bit late on that (sorry, I was busy with work and getting sick, both seem to be prerequesites for me around thanksgiving), as TheZ actually posted the video a few days ago already.
How is this different from Acid_Snake’s port? Well, for a starter, they are probably not using the same game exploit, but more importantly, The Z’s video of Frostegater’s new VHBL port shows actual running homebrews (more than the VHBL menu, I mean).

November 26th, 2012, 13:47 Posted By: wraggster
The Playstation Mobile Dev toolkit Beta has closed quite a long time ago, by this time I expected that there would have been loads of new Indie games and apps but today when I switched over to my US account after updating to 2.00, I saw that not many apps are available. I feel that Sony has made a BIG mistake by making PSM a paid service and for forcing approval to publish.
I saw more apps coming out when the toolkit was in Open Beta. With the Open Beta, all people had equal access to the toolkit and could do whatever they wanted, but with the closed version, very few people have the time and money to sign up and develop apps for PSN for which they can be sure that the app will be approved
The PSM was the perfect idea, the ability to access a lot of the abilities available on the Vita yet ensure that there were no piracy but, then Sony made the careless mistake of forcing India devs to pay $100 for the toolkit!
Sony should have kept it like J2ME for smartphones, download it anywhere and just install but they decided to keep the system in their control, to make sure that they earned as much money as possible. During the open beta, we saw some very creative apps ,
a Remote Desktop application, an all region Playstation store ‘hack’, the cool games even the demos like the flight simulator, just imagine how much more the Vita would sell if PSM was open, developers would want to buy a Vita so that they could make software for it, we would get our homebrew, Sony would get their sales.
So, I feel that Sony has wasted a perfectly good idea by making PSM a paid service. What do you think? Post your opinion here

Some very good news, Frostegater has a working PSP kernel exploit on the new Vita firmware 2.0!
With the recent firmware update issued for the Playstation Vita all of the recent exploits that have been released were patched including the recent Urbanix, Mad Blocker and Gravity Crash exploits for 1.81. That update also brought along some concerns as to whether Sony had permanently patched the method used to running Total_Noobs popular TN-C eCFW. Now, some new developments have been made not long after the new Vita firmware 2.0 update in addition to the Hello World featured on Wololo’s article.
Developer Frostegater already has a working pspemu kernel exploit, on the latest Vita 2.0 official firmware update (this was first announced by TheZ yesterday, and Wololo got confirmation directly from Frostegater today). This proves that Sony hasn’t patched all vectors to run eCFW, and means that there is a future for more exploit releases especially for those who have updated. Frostgater is already hard at work at trying to port TN-C to this new kernel exploit.
So if you updated and lost yours or simply missed all of the chances that were present over the last few months, check back as your future looks very bright for an exploit release that can run eCFW on the 2.0 Vita firmware update. If you have not already gotten an exploit and are holding out on a lower firmware its probably best to update, but that’s a personal decision you’ll have to make.
On a side note, for those who have asked, we confirmed Open CMA still works on firmwares lower than 2.00 and everything should be working normally with your exploits.

For those of you worried that Sony might one day have a magic patch for all psp usermode exploits, frostegater has good news for you: Vita’s firmware 2.0 still has some holes in the PSP emu (screenshot below).
He proves it with a typical Hello world running inside the psp emulator of the Vita. It’s no surprise, as I mentioned before we still have dozens of game exploits available on the psp (and those are compatible with the psp emu on the Vita) – lots of which, I need to mention, were found by frostegater himself -, but it’s good to confirm that these undisclosed usermode exploits still run even after a release of a new Vita firmware.
More impressive is the fact that the firmware was released only a few hours ago, and yet hackers had the time to install it, test the exploit, take pictures, upload them, etc…
The vita OFW 2.0 patches several user mode exploits we released here at wololo.net over the past few months. It is very likely that it also patches Total_Noob’s Kernel exploit in the psp emu, which would mean we are back to user mode exploits (understand: VHBL) for a little while, but the status of the Kernel exploit still needs to be confirmed (although early tests tell us it’s been patched too).

Kakaroto release a Proof Of Concept to finish a manager by us. Citation: Hello everyone, Last year in January, I decided to have a little fun by developing a homebrew libraries from EFL . My choice was a Manager ... Wholesale to replace the XMB. This went pretty well and the development was fast with very good API and opportunities EFL libraries. However, having other obligations, I could go on ... again, it was a bit slow and without hardware acceleration properly, it would not have been up to my expectations, so I put the side project. Several months later, in September, thanks to the work of gzorin , we finally got an implementation GL functional, benefiting applications EFL - the latter benefiting finally hardware acceleration. My manager was much better! But there were a few little things to finish and with no time I again set aside. Today I decided to publish this application, * as is * for all to enjoy! This means that it is not fully functional, some bugs may persist here and there, but people can use it and have fun with. Most importantly, it will serve four purposes: - Can be waking PS3 homebrew scene dying - Be a good "exercise for the community," as it is to finish - Being a good example of what can be done with EFL - Push the non- developers to make themes for EFL application I submit Eleganz! A Manager elegant! A little app that allows you to install pkg files and launch your games directly from it.
i published my application both on github and the git of ps3dev. And you can also download a pre-compiled pkg for your PS3 and have fun with. few important points (features, limitations and bugs): - The user interface is fully customizable with themes. - The installation files pkg is locally in its own data directory (it will not be visible in the XMB real, unless someone does a "reverse" the format of the database) - Do not start the game (that is, do you use as a reference ps3load maybe ...) - The current theme lack of appropriate images for the progress bar (default theme is used exquisite/E17) - The system hangs for a few milliseconds when it tries to load the background image of a game (can be solved if you put up a pthread library and threading support in EFL) - Apparently when you plant leaves (bug) The application comes with two themes a dark theme and a light. I prefer the dark, so I chose the default (do not mind the gray background in the video, it was just for testing). I wrote the user interface for the theme (Edje files) while opium designed the graphics. The EFL theme engine is extremely powerful, so hopefully I'll see tons of themes happen. And I'm not talking about "Change images" theme, I want real issues, where the interface is different, XMB vertical one, a circular theme with a 3D perspective / depth for icons, background dynamic / mobile, etc ... You can learn about the file format. edj /. edc here and do not forget check the wiki on the EDC . I hope to see the community take part and have fun with. Well, now, have fun, and send me your patches! I wait: D Kakaroto ps: I forgot to say that the rules / naming conventions etc. .. EDC files are explained here . If a file. Edj is malformed, it will be ignored and will not be displayed on the user interface. pps: You can install EFL in Windows and have access to edje_cc to compile your. edc by. edj ... ppps: * * Damn, I always forget things .. I said that Eleganz works fine on PC, I've done all my development on it (the screens shown are for Linux), * then * I tried it on PS3 and it worked .. Therefore the development of themes, it should be fairly easy to test without even needing a PS3. archive contains the sources and the pkg. eleganz Official website: kakaroto.homelinux.net

The guys over at Lavalit have released a new version of the beats of rage clone for the Dreamcast, Dingoo, PSP, Linux, Windows, GP2x, Nintendo Wii and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]engine[/COLOR][/COLOR], which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Heres whats new:

PPSSPP is written in C++, and translates PSP CPU instructions directly into optimized x86, x64 and (soon) ARM machine code, using an efficient JIT compiler.
PPSSPP can thus run on quite low-spec hardware, including stronger Android phones and tablets, as long as there's support for OpenGL ES 2.0.
Many fixes, more games playable
Progress has been rapid, much thanks to several new contributors! As usual, see the downloads page for the new version, and look at the compatibility list.

DICE has detailed a new Battlefield 3 patch which should improve input lag and audio dropouts reported by some PS3 players since the game launched last year.
"We have been busy making some welcome fixes for our PlayStation 3 players, fine tuning a lot of weapons based on your feedback, and tweaking some gameplay mechanics," the studio said. The "essential multiplayer update", which is detailed in full below, goes live tomorrow, November 27 on consoles, and no later than December 4 on PC.
- Addressed "input lag" on PS3: If you have been experiencing "input lag" playing Battlefield 3 on PlayStation 3, we now believe we have significantly improved this situation for all players.
- Improved audio stability on PS3: The audio dropouts reported by some PlayStation 3 gamers playing Battlefield 3 should now be fixed for the majority of players.
- Weapons balancing: Based on detailed community feedback and data analysis we have made some minor weapon tweaks to recoil and accuracy. The goal of these tweaks, and the overall goal in Battlefield 3, is to give each weapon a unique feel and competitive performance to other weapons of a similar type.
- M416: First shot and horizontal recoil slightly increased. This should make the choice between M16 and M416 more interesting again.
- L85A2: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.
- AUG: first shot recoil slightly to increase weapon controllability.
- FAMAS: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.
- G53: Vertical recoil reduced to make this weapon more controllable.
- QBZ-95B: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.
- LSAT: Hip accuracy has been increased to highlight the weapon's role as a highly mobile LMG.
- Type88 LMG: Recoil has been decreased to make it a viable option when compared to the M249.
- M5K: Increased horizontal recoil and decreased vertical recoil to focus this weapon as a high damage, low control PDW.
- UMP45: Decreased fully automatic fire to differentiate this weapon from the PP2000.
- MP412: Increased its accuracy to better distinguish it from the .44 Magnum.
- M26: Increased aimed accuracy to be in line with the other shotguns.
- Weapons bug fixes: Fixed the MTAR's range not being correctly reduced when equipped with the sound suppressor.
- Fixed a bug where suppressive fire had reduced effect on the M16 and M5K when compared with other weapons.
- Fixed a bug where the M5K's Flash Suppressor had no effect on accuracy.
- Fixed the L86A2 Heavy Barrel's hip accuracy penalty being far larger than other weapons.
- Fixed an issue with the Mk3 shotgun's ACOG being low resolution.
- M-COM disarm fix: Fixed an issue where M-COM stations couldn't be disarmed from the left side while standing up.
- Alborz Mountains rock fix: Rocks and stones collision tweaked on Armored Kill maps. Players should no longer be able to exploit a collision issue that allowed them to hide inside rock formations.
- Operation Shield/Alborz Mountains Tank Superiority area fix: Tank Superiority visual combat areas fixed on Operation Shield and Alborz Mountains. There was earlier a 10×10 meter patch on the mountain that became out of combat for US. This was technically already fixed server side, however this will update the actual visuals to be correct.
- Death Valley collision fix: Collision tweaked on the railroad tunnel roof. This fix prevents players from being able to hide inside the railroad tunnel roof.
- Sharqi Squad Rush spawn fix: Players would sometimes spawn out of combat if spawning shortly after the first M-COM explodes on Squad Rush on Sharqi Peninsula. With this fix, spawn points have been moved back to prevent this from happening.
- Alborz Mountains Squad Rush fix: Cameras were incorrect in the spawn menu, pointing to old locations and not where you would actually spawn in. This has now been fixed.
- Gunship balancing changes: We have now removed the gunship FLIR view (the position is still available, just not the black/white view) and decreased the damage radius of cannon explosions. This was done because of balancing reasons. Previously it was too easy for the gunner to get visual contact on enemy soldiers on the maps, and the splash damage is reduced to make it harder to kill infantry from the cannon seat.
- Mobile Artillery spawn bug fixed: Two players can no longer spawn into the Mobile Artillery. This was a spawn-in-menu bug on the Operation Shield map which has now been fixed.
- Tweaked hard to get medals: Looking at the persistence system, we could see that a number of the hard to get medals were actually too hard to achieve (in our opinion based on our intended design). While we never meant for all medals to have an equal distribution, the hardest ones were still intended to be more achievable than they have proven to be so far. Therefore, we have slightly decreased the prerequisites to achieve a number of the hardest to get medals in the game. One positive side effect (if you like playing Recon) is that we will likely see a slight bump in the Recon kit's average Score Per Minute overall.

[source: 3k3y.com] Final hardware verification will start this week. All parts have been tested on development boards so no surprises are anticipated. While built-in disk ripping does work, it is too slow to be practical and will not be present. There is another way which is much faster and can most likely be delivered in a future software update, but we will not have time to verify this before launch. So we decided to remove built-in disk ripping from the feature list and put it on the WIP list. We have designed and completed software and a add-on board for connecting a PS3 drive to a PC via USB in order to dump games. This add-on board will be a part of the 3k3y kit.

Jpcsp SVN r2875 is compiled.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r2875
Small fixes to avoid OpenGL errors (detected by the new CheckErrorsProxy).
---------------------
r2874
Implemented sceUtilitySavedata with mode MODE_ERASESECURE. Small fix in PSF reading to avoid NullPointerException.
---------------------
r2873
Added possibility to check for OpenGL errors after each OpenGL/lwjgl call. This has to be enabled by changing RenderingEngineFactory.enableCheckErrorsProxy = true;
---------------------
r2872
Improved support for Chinese gb3s1518.bwfon font: corrected values returned by sceFontGetCharInfo.

A new info leak has provided more detail’s about Bungie’s secretive Destiny game.
And furthermore, they appear to have been inadvertently confirmed by the studio itself.
IGN received details of the game via a leaked document from an advertising agency.
“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age,” it reads. “A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector.
“Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.”
The information adds that the game is specifically designed to “create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise” that is accessible to a wider market than simply the shooter hardcore.
And if there was any doubt of its authenticity, the leak was seemingly confirmed by Bungie itself with a post on its website.
“Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright,” the studio said. “We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we've really been up to. Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.”
The big question now remains whether or not Destiny will indeed be an MMO as has been previously rumoured.
Additional leaked imagery also seems to question the detailed release schedule revealed as part of a lawsuitearlier this year. Early promo material for the game lists both Xbox and PS3 as launch platforms – conflicting with news that the game would initially be an Xbox exclusive.

Dragon Age 3 could be in the works for Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles, if details found in an EA developer's CV turns out to be accurate.
According to a statement in the CV of EA Shanghai level designer Tao Gu, the "scope of the DAIII has been chaged, which will target next gen platform and will be postpone [sic] to 2014."Gu made contributions to Dragon Age 3 earlier this year, according to the Kotaku report.
The site speculates that the 'postponed' release Gu speaks of could be related to alleged rumours of the game having been shifted internally from a fiscal 2013 release (ending March 31, 2013) to a fiscal 2014 - which would fall in line with the late calendar 2013 release that was officially announced.
More intriguing, however, is the game's supposed next-gen destination. No platforms were mentioned in the official announcement, which supports the theory that EA could be targeting unannounced platforms.
But the game was confirmed to be built on DICE's Frostbite 2 tech - the same engine which EAhas said on record "was built for the next generation" - in the words of EA Games head, Patrick Soderlund.
BioWare promises that the game will combine "the storytelling legacy BioWare is known for, with deep RPG gameplay, all on a brand new RPG game engine underpinned by EA's critically-acclaimed Frostbite 2 technology".
BioWare Edmonton general manager Aaryn Flynn at the time of the announcement, "With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they're asking for - a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral."

November 29th, 2012, 15:02 Posted By: wraggster
The Vita has been rapidly growing its triple AAA franchises with the likes of Uncharted, Mortal Kombat, and Need For Speed to name a few.
Vita sales are hitting all time lows mostly because its lack of bigger franchises. Bioshock and Killzone are coming however other than that there hasn’t been much announced. We are almost a year into the Vitas life cycle, so bigger games are around the corner.
Here are the top 10 franchises I think need to come to the Vita and the possibility of those happening.
10. Fallout
Sony promised console quality on the go, but to be honest we haven’t seen much that was close in content besides this years Persona 4; a PS2 game. Nothing would fit the Vita better than the expansive, post apocalyptic world, free roaming of Fallout. The Vita would fit nice with the Fallout controls and the Vita could turn its self into a working PipBoy perfectly with its huge touch screen. Fallout is so immersive with its story, game play and sound; something the Vita needs. Now we haven’t seen Bethesda touch the mobile market much so its a long shot here. The Vita however needs a game with a lot of content for those of us that don’t like the “bite sized” attitude a lot of these developers have now towards Vita games. An 120hr+ campaign would sure keep us immersed for a long time, instead of short bursts of levels like we saw with Unit 13 or with Black Ops: Declassified. Fallout 4 is most likely on its way, one can only hope.
9. Tomb Raider
The new Tomb Raider reboot looks promising, touching on everything making it hopefully better. It hasn’t been announced for the Vita which is surprising since we saw Tomb Raider games launch alongside their console counterparts on the PSP. Tomb Raider would fit well on the Vita giving both male and even female gamers a great game to play. The Tomb Raider games on the PSP are a testament that Lara can go mobile and still be as fantastic as her console counterpart. Earlier we saw Uncharted: Golden Abyss which is similar to the Tomb Raider franchise, that game was top notch and an absolute blast to play. Seeing our favorite heroine on the beautiful Vita OLED screen would sure sell consoles and win fans.
8. SPLINTERCELL
If there is one thing we can agree on, its that the Vita is lacking a great stealth game. Splinter cell (even Hitman) would be a fantastic addition to the Vita’s lineup. A Vita version of the new Splinter cell : Blacklisted was not announced but there may be another opportunity to launch alongside the new Splinter Cell movie staring Tom Hardy(Bane). The 3DS version of Splinter Cell proved that Sam Fisher is a great addition to a mobile platform. If it can be done on the 3DS, it can be even better on the Vita. Nothing feels better than sneaking up on an enemy, even Splinter Cell Essentials still feels great on the Vita. If they could bring Sam to the Vita with full Co-op it would sure be a success. It would offer hardcore gamers something to play.
7. KINGDOM HEARTS
Kingdom Hearts is a gigantic franchise that is popular world wide both from kids to adults. The iconic story and Disney characters would do really well on the Vita. Japans sales of the Vita are slacking, Kingdom Hears could be the answer. Birth by Sleep did well on the PSP, but with the Vitas touch screen and more comfortable controls it would be a better experience. Birth by Sleep really boosted the PSP, selling 1.27 million copies worldwide as of November 2010, receiving positive comments by video game publications. Kingdom Hearts is just something that is a must on the Vita.
6. BORDERLANDS
Borderlands is huge, offering large amounts of content and a definitive co-op experience. Hardcore console gamers would be highly attracted to Borderlands 2 on the go. The cell shaded graphics would not be difficult either on the Vita if optimized right. Borderlands 2 on Vita isn’t out of the question in terms of possibility either, we might actually see it become a reality soon. According to Gearbox President Randy Pitchford he wants Borderlands 2 on the Vita but needs help, as gearbox cant do it all and would need another trusted developer to take it on. Pitchford also fantasized about cloud saving between PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of Borderlands 2, and says he’ll be meeting with Sony again soon. Playing Borderlands at home and then picking up where you left off would be something unique, and definitely give new meaning to going mobile.
5. Battlefield
With this years lack luster Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, gamers felt that it was rushed and just bland. Black Ops: Declassified was really not accepted widely, and sits on Metacritic with a 32%. The Vita still needs a better FPS, and what better franchise to do so than the Battlefield series. EA’s Frostbite 2 engine would be a delightful treat for the Vita, and if they could pull of full vehicle large scale online it would be a game changer. EA has already dove into the mobile market before with big franchise releases on iOS such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We already know that Battlefield 4 is on the way thanks to the beta offer for those who preordered Medal of Honor so could we see a Vita version? EA surely wont sit back and let COD dominate another market in addition to consoles, so its a possibility.
4. STARWARS
Star Wars games were highly popular on the PSP especially with the multiple Battlefront releases. Star Wars is a great franchise with a lot to offer for the Vita if executed right. Imagine Knights of the Old Republic, a new Bounty Hunter, Jedi Outcasts or even a new Xwing game on the Vita. Even a new Star Wars Battlefront game that is optimized for the Vita would be fantastic now that the Vita has two thumbsticks. The gameplay of Battlefront fits an “on the go experience” too. Now with the new Disney buy out of Lucasarts we will most likely see some new Star Wars games. The new movies coming out would also get older fans back in the franchise, while bringing in a newer younger audience so if Sony had a new Vita game or bundle, it would force push the sales up. We’ve yet to see a big Sci Fi game on the Vita; Star Wars should be it.
3. Monster Hunter
Sony didn’t make a move on one of the biggest selling PSP franchises with Monster Hunter 3 which is now only going to be coming to 3DS and Wii U. Sony owes Vita users a Monster Hunter game. Monster Hunter needs to be on the Vita if it wants a strong reason to keep its footing against the 3DS. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the PSP sold millions of copies and had high praise. Now, that the Vita has more power it wouldn’t be too hard to out do the successful Monster Hunter games that have been released.
2. God Of War
The king of PSP needs to come to the Vita unarguably. God of War is a hardcore system seller and a flagship franchise for Sony. There hasn’t been a Sony device to not have Kratos on it since the launch of the first game back on the PS2. It would be pretty ignorant to start now and not to bring Kratos over to the Vita. The Vita still has a lot of raw power untapped so a full fledged PS3 quality Kratos adventure would suite well. Sony most likely has one in development; probably for next holiday season with a new Vita bundle? Who knows, but God Of War has to come to the Vita.
1. Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto offers the perfect blend of driving, shooting, story and all around fun, something that would shock life into the Vitas library. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Liberty City Stories were great on the PSP but were lacking huge in the graphics department and controls. One thumbstick just didn’t feel right and really took away from the experience but guess what? The Vita now has two! The Grand Theft Auto experience would be exceptionally huge, more so if Rockstar handles it. Need for Speed Most Wanted, Assassins Creed and Gravity Rush proved that huge open worlds can be done on the Vita, and done well but imagine if the veterans of Rockstar had a shot at it. Grand Theft Auto fits well on mobile devices, giving users the chance to do missions if they want or if they don’t have time, to simply just roam around. Its a perfect fit of content and bite sized gaming. Rockstar already said that no consoles are ruled out, but they just need to be told to do so and they’ll do it. It’s up to Sony, hopefully they take action and bring a popular series to the Vita. A survey was floating around awhile ago if users would buy GTA V and like the idea of Cross Buy and getting it for free with PS Plus. So could Sony already be ahead of the game and have something up their sleeve? Let’s hope so.
That’s only some of the many, many franchises that would be great on the Vita. Lets hope we can see some of these become a reality. What are some major game franchises you would like to see come to the Vita in the coming years? Let me know in the comments!

While I generally don’t talk about homebrew apps here, this one got my attention.
The PlayStop Network allows you to download VHBL and CEF homebrews, ready to be transferred to your Vita with not much hassle. Similar to PSN, only on your PC.
But downloading homebrews is not the main feature, as you can also chat with people using this app, there is also a nice ban feature for the admins, so be sure to file a report if anyone bothers you.
This is nothing new, we have seen other apps doing the same, including my own work (VHBL Manager), but the chat ability is a really nice addition none of the other apps have done.
The app has been renamed from PSV Downloader Optimised to PlayStop Network, and has been updated to 1.01, if you want to try it out, you can download it here.

PS3 Skyrim owners have been left behind, but not forgotten according to Bethesda.
The company’s PR and marketing head Pete Hines took to Twitterin response to the questions regarding the lack of any of the title’s DLC for Sony’s console.
"We continue to work on it. And content will be coming to PS3," Hines said. "Will give details when I have them."
Issues have been ongoing since Bethesda admitted it was having technical issues with the Playstation 3 version of the game’s Dawnguard DLC back in August.
Skyrim’s third announced add-on Dragonborn has only been confirmed for Xbox 360 so far.

It gave up on video games in 2010, but now WH Smith is back on board… sort of.
The newsagent chain is stocking all three versions of Sony’s new Wonderbook: Book of Spells. That includes the bundle which includes the PS3.
WH Smith is also stocking the toys for Activision’s new kids game Skylanders Giants.
The firm backed out of games in February 2010, telling MCV at the time: “Our withdrawal from the CD and games market is a natural step in the implementation of our strategy to reduce our presence in entertainment and focus instead on our core categories.”
Sony told MCV in June that it felt Wonderbook could attract ‘non-traditional’ retailers due to its unique fusion of books and games. It is also sold in Costco.
The game launched two weeks ago and only reached No.25. But, as expected, sales have crept up this week by 53 per cent and now sits at No.20 in the UK All-Formats charts.

Following Nintendo and Microsoft’s lead, Sony has revealed Black Friday US sales data for its hardware.
The PS3 sold over 525,000 units during the week of November 18th-24th, with the PS Vita moving 160,000 devices in the same period.
The sales numbers for Sony’s systems were of course bolstered by discounted bundle offerings at retail and online stores during the latter part of the week.
PS3 Black Friday bundle sales were up 15 per cent, and total PS3 sales (which counts hardware, software, and peripherals) increased by nine per cent stacked up against 2011 figures. Latin America specifically saw a 200 per cent year-over-year sales growth increase.
In comparison, Xbox 360 moved 750,000 consoles during (almost) the same period. Wii U, perhaps hobbled by its own lack of stock, moved 400,000 units around the same timeframe. Nintendo also reported 500,000 portable devices sold between DS and 3DS lines.
