Hard to believe that this great homebrew project is now half a decade old, but it is one that has truly stood the test of time. Here's E P's release post with the 5th anniversary release:

LaunchELF v4.41 (2010.05.30)
-Updated ps2sdk and existing source files to SVN rev 1682.
-Fixed some compiler warnings with the vmcfs driver do to changes in the latest ps2sdk revision.
-Removed the modified screen update delay methods, restoring previous functionality.
Note: This version is similar to v4.40i only built from the newest ps2sdk. It also doesn't have the MC renaming functionality either as this version too utilizes the internal memory card drivers. Hopefully at some point jimmikaelkael's MC drivers can be added back when a viable workaround is found to fix issues with some console versions. Anyway, the main reason for this release is the end of the earlier beta process. Apparently the newer builds of uLE are stable enough for further future use.

While 3DTV owners have to pay extra to play Pain in stereoscopic 3D, 3DTV updates for Wipeout HD and Super Stardust HD are free in Japan. Downloadable updates on June 10th will make both games support 3DTVs. The 3DTV update for Pain, known as Mr. Pain in Japan, costs 300 yen ($3.30).
Sony is also bundling a code to download a Motorstorm 2 demo with Bravia 3DTVs in Japan. Plans for a full 3DTV release of Motorstorm 2 have not been announced.

The "late May or early June" release date for Hello Games' PSN stunt game Joe Danger has been clarified -- and not just by the fact that there's no "late May" left. The PlayStation Blog has passed along the thrilling news that Joe Danger will be available on PSN on June 8.
What better way to kick off summer than by devising the deadliest trap-filled obstacle courses possible, and then racing against your friends on them in several different game modes? It's probably the most fun you'll have falling off of a motorcycle repeatedly, sometimes into fire or spikes.

Sony will kick off the era of stereoscopic 3D gaming on home consoles when PS3 goes 3D on June 10, Sony Japan has confirmed.
On that day Sony will release patches to update the first games on the console to run in full 3D, coinciding with the release of its new 3D Bravia TV sets. Which we want more than life itself.
The first games to go 3D are PSN titles WipEout HD, Super Stardust HD (aka Star Strike HD in Japan) and Pain (aka Mr. Pain). Owners of WipEout HD and Super Stardust will receive the 3D patches for free, which is nice.
Pain owners will, however, need to fork out 300 Yen (around £2.20) to get their 3D patch, although that one comes with new extra modes too. More info on those new modes here.
Sony Japan has also detailed plans for a Bravia promotional campaign which awards these three games and a 3D demo for Motorstorm 2 for free to anyone who buys a Bravia 3DTV set.
This announcement came out of Japan - no word from Sony in our parts of the world yet, but that could be something to do with Spring Bank Holiday (UK) and Memorial Day (US). Expect to know more by tomorrow.

Five-a-side footie game Pure Football has been given a lower RRP than usual – with a £29.99 price set by Ubisoft.
The title, which went on sale last Friday, is one third cheaper than most PS3 and Xbox 360 games which usually have an RRP of £44.99 or £49.99.
It’s the latest new release to be badged at a price somewhere between the standard and the traditional budget range of £19.99 to £24.99. Earlier this year Namco Bandai’s Clash of Titans also received a £29.99 RRP.
The news comes following comments from Namco Bandai VP Olivier Comte and Doctor Who developer Charles Cecil who have both told MCV that games are too expensive.

The writing’s on the wall for PSP, there’s no doubt about it. The thing is though, the writing has been on the wall for Sony’s handheld for a few years now. And it’s still here. It’s still selling. It’s doing brilliantly in Japan.
And Sony clearly has absolutely no intention of giving up on its plucky little machine.
MCV recently met with SCE UK sales director Mark Howsen and PR boss David Wilson. Perhaps the most surprising outcome of the talks was this – whilst Move is clearly Sony’s main act at this year’s E3, it’s not the only priority.
The platform holder still has big plans for PSP.
It admits, of course, that the PSP is struggling outside of Japan. Sony has never issued UK sales numbers and a look at the official figures reveals why that’s no surprise. However, Sony is keen to point out that its machine isn’t the only handled struggling in the territory.
“I think in handheld over all the industry is at a bit of a tipping point,” Howsen explained. “We’re seeing a trend whereby consumers are relatively accepting of the fact that they have to buy high-price hardware but at the same time they expect to pay very little, or sometimes even nothing at all, for software. That’s a real shift in behaviour.
“Of course there will always be a market for premium, full value product but the balance between that and value content is changing quite rapidly. That’s been fuelled by, I guess, piracy initially but now also the advent of new business models coming into this space and that’s feeding it even faster.”
Though not referred to by name, the influence of iTunes and its aggressive pricing strategy permeated every sentence. Though Apple’s brand remained unspoken, Sony’s reaction to it has been clear. First, the cut-price PSP Essentials range. Then this week brought the news – broken exclusively by MCV – that Sony is to give away ten games to anyone registering their PSPgo after April 1st 2010.
All these moves are designed to steer PSP gently away from the triple-A full-price software model and ever closer toward an Apple style strategy.
“To reinvent the whole PSP model wee need to look at handheld in a very different way, in the context in which consumers are now viewing it,” Howsen added. “We’re trying to reengage consumers with PSP, though that’s not just a challenge for us – it's a challenge for the whole handheld sector. We are at the point of a major shift in the way that consumers are engaging with the current players in that market.”
Questions regarding the PSP 2 – a machine that MCV is absolutely convinced will be revealed this year – were rebutted. But rest assured that every change we’re seeing in Sony’s approach to handheld now is simply laying the foundations for news heading our way later this year.

Today's been a good day for revelatory slip-ups. Now Sony's Cambridge studio has stated in an interview that it's hard at work on the second iteration of Play TV.
The studio's Mark Green let the news sneak out when asked what the studio will be working on after LittleBigPlanet 2.
"Well, as a whole studio, I think you saw TV Superstars for Move announced a little while ago," he told Spong.
"We're still working on Play TV, Play TV 2. And then we have other guys working on other concepts..."
All eyes turn to E3 next month.
However, Sony has a habit of announcing major hardware news at August's GamesCom in Germany - so our money's on that.

Uberjack posted this news concerning an Atari ST Port to the PSP he was working on:
I’m forced to abandon work on Castaway PSP. I’m consistently unable to get emulation to work in any mode other than monochrome, and having combed through the code five or six times, and having attempted contact with the developer of the other PSP Castaway emulator, there’s not much else I can/am willing to do.

Please note that the developer has released a new version coyotebean PSARDumper of the application that allows you to decrypt the files nell'EBOOT. Pbp official firmware. With this release, you can decrypt the EBOOT.PBP of the firmware updates for PSP Go, which have few MB of files to cover the difference from the update to the PSP Standard. Compared to earlier versions have been updated keys but unfortunately you can not decrypt prx PSPGo kernel.

With the likes of the 3D-ready Killzone 3 (and the predicted 3D revamp of Gran Turismo 5) expected to feature big at next month’s E3, Sony has admitted that the market for 3D games is tiny – for the time being.
“I think this year the actual size of the 3D market is relatively small because we’re right at the beginning of the lifecycle,” SCE UK sales director told MCV. “Ultimately it will be dependent on the number of 3D TVs that are sold and how quickly they are sold.
“But this year it’s really a great tech story for us. It’s another capability that PS3 has and we’re adding it free of charge. From our perspective that’s a key message.
“We’ve seen this in action and I must admit that I think 3D gaming is much more compelling than 3D movies because once you’ve experienced a game in 3D you’ll want to buy a 3D TV. It certainly converted me. It’s much more compelling.”
PR boss David Wilson added that while 3D movies could arguably be seen as nothing other than a novelty, in gaming there are practical advantages in using the new types of display.
“MotorStorm is one of the titles mentioned in our Bravia offer,” he explained. “If you’re a gamer playing a driving game you want to be in the driving seat, you don’t want that cheaty third person view where you can see the corner coming way ahead.
“But when you’re in the cockpit it’s often quite hard to judge that corner. Take F1, as an example. You’re very low to the ground on a flat circuit – it’s hard to see where the world goes. 3D changes that. Here I am, here’s the end of the car, here’s the end of the road.
“That improves the experience and, donning my Tomorrow’s World hat, shows where it might go in the future in terms of when people actually start making games for 3D as opposed to adapting existing titles.”

Gran Turismo 5 has been shown in playable form to members of the public in Tokyo recently.
The game was used at a recent display in the Tokyo district of Roppongi to show off Sony's new line of 3D Bravia TVs set to launch around the world this summer.
According to 1Up, the game running in 3D looked no better or worse than it did when shown in 2D form at previous events, although we guess side-by-side comparisons would more clearly reveal some of the cutbacks that necessary to get current-gen consoles running games in 3D.
The site goes on to say that the game's 3D effects appear like 2D images layered on top of each other rather than giving the illusion of full 3D objects. But on the plus side it notes the game's sharp focus and subtle use of 3D makes it easier on the eyes.
3D trailers of Wipeout HD, Motorstorm 2 and Killzone 2 were also shown, but none were playable.
It was recently rumoured that Gran Turismo 5's ongoing delays were to allow developer Polyphony to incorporate 3D support, along with compatibility with for the PlayStation Move motion controller.

We think the hype surrounding a PSP2 can go up a slight notch this morning, as a comment - all be it a small comment - on the topic has been made by Sony.
Over on the US PlayStation Blog it's usual for gamers to ask Sony questions, and get some sort of answer. So, a gamer asked Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman to either confirm or deny the existence of a PSP2 and/or PSP Phone. In reply, Shuman said: "I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of Area 51. In all seriousness, we don’t comment on rumors — you’ll find out for yourself at E3."
So even though it in no way confirms a PSP2, it looks like we will definitely find something out at the platform giants E3 conference, which is just sixteen days away, might I add.

Pain, the human catapulting game on PlayStation Network, is going stereoscopic 3D. Sony has a Pain pack that adds 3DTV support and two challenges created specifically for 3DTVs.
Alien Toss 3D is one of the new challenges in the Pain 3D pack and has players fling a stereotypical Martian. Ice Breaker 3D, the other 3D addition, lets players shoot crates at an ice castle. Sony Korea says this add-on will also make other modes in Pain 3DTV compatible, but didn’t specify which ones.
We’ll have to wait until June 3rd to find out. That’s when the Pain 3D pack goes live in Asia.

Video game peripheral developer and manufacturer Komodo has decided to pull the plug on its third-party motion controller for the PlayStation 3.
Unveiled this January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the 3D Motion Freedom Remote strongly resembled Nintendo's Wii Remote. The reason given for the cancellation of development and production of the controller was the difficulty of getting it to work with a number of existing PS3 games.
"...especially the racing titles." said Dan Workman, representative for Komodo's distributer Innex, Inc., during a phone call with News10 "It just wasn't worth it."
The 3D Motion Freedom Remote was scheduled for a June 2010 release.

It must feel pretty strange when you work hard on something that you know most people think is a piece of garbage. That's exactly the case with PlayStation Home content developer Veemee's Kirk Ewing, who fully acknowledges that the game space doesn't have the most favorable view amongst the gaming public.
Play.tm reports that at the last Game in Scotland event, Ewing admitted: "Most people think that Home is sh*t." Veemee is responsible for Home content such as the London Pub and the V-Store which sells many different kinds of Home apparel.
Ewing followed the statement with: "I'm here to say that it's not." Ewing also said that Home is set to leave the open beta phase it's been in for at least the past year-and-a-half in December, though what this exactly means for the service is unsure, and Sony has not confirmed the claim. His message on Home not being "sh*t" could possibly be referring to it as a platform for profit, rather than fun.
Waiting around in a virtual world to play a game of pool or to bowl wasn't exactly the type of experience I wrote home to mom about (my real home) when Home first launched. However, decorating one's house and experiencing some of the exclusive mini-games and content on the service has been entertaining, but still isn't enough to graft me to regular use personally. They always seem to be adding interesting sounding content, though.
Somebody must be into Home, as Ewing says that "one in three PlayStation 3 owners use Home" and "there are 1.7 million repeat users each using Home for around 53 minutes on average." I would think that anyone with a PS3 hooked up to the internet has tried Home as some point, explaining the first figure. The second figure can only be explained by the addiction people seem to have to virtual dancing and harassment of female avatars. Is Home sh*t like most people seem to think, or should it become a regular visit for more PS3 owners?
