The PlayStation 2 has surged back to the top of the hardware sales rankings in the USA following its price cut to $149, announced last month at E3, with sales in the month after the cut more than doubling.[br][br]Data released this week by Sony Computer Entertainment America shows that the console's sales rose by some 216 per cent in the week immediately following the price cut, with an increase of 141 per cent over the full period since the cut.[br][br]The increase in sales will have propelled the PlayStation 2 well past its console rivals, after Sony's platform slipped behind the Xbox in monthly sales for the first time since the launch of the Microsoft console in the April this year. [br][br]The boost for the Xbox also came off the back of a major price cut, however, and Sony will be hoping to beat expectations of a decline in demand for PS2 hardware this year and continue to outsell the Xbox and GameCube at the new $149 price point.[br][br]The increased sales noted since the price cut have actually pushed year on year sales of the PS2 upwards, with 26 per cent growth on the same period last year - and should hopefully help to slow the overall decline in hardware sales which has hit the USA so far this year.[br][br]Market figures show that the US console hardware sector has been down 10.7 per cent this year to date, although these figures do not cover the most recent weeks since the PS2 price cut. The decline is entirely due to slower sales of the PS2, as both Xbox and GameCube have shown year-on-year gains.[br][br]By contrast, both Europe and Japan have seen growth in the year to date - with console sales in the PAL territories up 10.9 per ccent, while Japan has been boosted 2.3 per cent by the strengthening performance of Nintendo's GameCube.[br][br]"This price drop came when we felt it was strategically the best timing to expand the market," commented SCEA vice president Jack Tretton, "and it's gratifying to see consumers respond so aggressively to our commitment to meet their growing expectations. The new sales data provides a powerful proof point that consumers - both our mass-market, core audience and casual gamers - are placing their confidence in the longevity of PlayStation 2, which we see as absolutely essential to the health of the industry."

Hi All!
I recently bought a flip-top cover and Swap Magic discs. I have a version 4,5,6, or 7 PS2 (I don't know but it has 8 screws at the bottom!) The discs I have are Swap Magic 3.0 (CD version Europe build) and Swap Magic (DVD version 2.0 EUR build).
The reason for me buying the flip-top and discs was because I have just returned from China with a number of games and DVD's that can't play because of the different region.
However I can't for the life of me get it to work!!
If I load the Swap Magic 3.0 (CD version Europe build), I will come to a screen with 'Load Program' and 'Video Mode : Normal'. I will then swap discs with my Chinese PS2 game (using the flip-top lid) and select Load Program. The screen will then change to a sort of 'outer-space shot (red stars, black background), and a blue and red striped border. But nothing else will happen!
If I load the Swap Magic (DVD version 2.0 EUR build), I will come to a screen with 'Insert Disc' and a 'shooting stars' background. I insert a disc with the flip-top lid and nothing happens until I press a button on my game pad. Then the screen stops (the stars stop shooting!) And later a pink border appears at the top and bottom of the screen. But nothing else will happen!
I'm at a loss about what else to do! Have I got the wrong Swap Magic discs? Am I doing something wrong? Are the discs from China faulty?
So if there is anyone out there who can help me it would be much appreciated!!

Maybe its just me. But most games on my PS2 dont looks as good as I think they should. The textures and backgrounds look slightly blurry and sometimes jagged. Its as if I was looking a pc game at 640 by 480!
I have a decent tv so that isn't it. Maybe I need new cables or something. anybody got any suggestions?

can someone please explain to me the attraction of final fantasy. im a big rpg fan but final fantasy has got to be one of the worst. you are forced to follow a pre determined route and forced to watch long and boring story segments. the battles last for far too long as well. its basically extremely linear and boring. the one redeeming feature it has is the graphics which are far better than any other game on ps2

as we all know sony are having problems being original with their games and we all know that there is a an over-abundance of shit film tie-ins. so where should they go from here. we know that sequels to top games are usually good but what do you think of the originality crisis. where are the original games

i think it was over rated but do you? although it was reasonably violent i dont think it violent to the point of being too violent. i think the realism of the graphics of a game decides how violent it is. so the more real the graphics the more shocking the violence. but with manhunts graphics still being very, well, graphics like and non-realistic it does remove most of the shock element from the game.

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help. I am having a problem with my PS2 at the moment.
When I turn the PS2 on, it doesn't seem to boot (to the main Sony screen with 'Browser' on it). It will boot about 1 in 30 trys of resetting it and if it does then boot, if I insert a CD or game, it won't load it!
I'm not sure what to do. I managed to load a CD lens cleaner thing a couple of days ago but that didnt seem to help, in fact, its probably got worse since then.
Any help anyone can give would be gratefull recieved! Thanks!

Hi, i have a "gameshark 2 v4 .rar" file. after extracting it, it showed 3 files, image.ccd (1 kb), image.sub (29.1 mb) and image.img (715 mb). what should i do now to burn it and make it playable on ps2. plz help. i m desperate.

hi guys, im new to this forum, i need a 2 player driving game that uss a chase and smash style of gameplay.
I have Driver 2 which in 'Cops and Robber' mode is the DB's, sadly Driver 3 i think sacrifices this feature for stupid replay features and a nicely decorated mansion, great!
Any ideas please let me know,
