If you've noticed a distinct lack of RC cars on your PS4, Beatshapers would like to fill that void for you with Ready to Run. Players will have 15 cars with arcade-like physics to choose from, none of which will require daily bulk purchases of AA batteries. See, it's already better than real life!
Ready to Run will have a "single city environment featuring endless tracks configurations for different race modes," which will include realtime and asynchronous multiplayer. The racer isn't accurately named just yet though -Ready to Run will be a PS4 exclusive on the PlayStation Network in Q2 of 2014.

It seems that, like the game's undead protagonist, the idea of Dark Souls 2 DLC cannot die. Or at least, if it does, it will simply rise anew. Dark Souls 2 Producer Takeshi Miyazoe stated back in December that he and his team did not expect there to be DLC for Dark Souls 2, but that position seems to have beenreconsidered according to a recent interview with Official Xbox Magazine.
"Right now we are concentrating on completing what we've got, but I think there are next steps on how we can expand on Dark Souls 2," Miyazoe said. Whether or not such steps would be taken, Miyazoe noted, would depend on fan feedback. "I'm not really ready to say look forward to more information, but I think the potential is definitely there."

A new system software update for the PS4 will open the range of options for compatible headsets for the console, Sony announced. Firmware version 1.60 will add support for Sony's Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets for PS3, which feature 7.1 virtual surround sound and voice chat. The update is expected to land "late tonight."
Sony also mentioned that its next PS4 and Vita-compatible headset, the Gold Wireless Headset, will arrive early this month for $99. The headset also includes 7.1 virtual surround sound in addition to "custom sound profiles" created by PlayStation developers. One of the developers to optimize a sound profile for the headset is Infamous: Second Son creators Sucker Punch. Sony will offer a Headset Companion App on PS4 for free, so players with either Pulse headset can access the sound profiles.
Sony's description of the Gold Wireless Headset notes that it uses a wireless adapter, which makes sense given the PS4's limited recognition of bluetoothdevices. It also includes a folding design and customizable face plates, which is pretty nifty.

European RPG fans looking forward to birthing an army of children will have to turn to digital means to do so - Conception 2: Children of the Seven Stars will reach Europe in Q2 of 2014 only on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Network, publisher Atlus announced in a press release this week.
Conception 2, the series' Western debut, will follow a young man capable of fighting demons that come from the Pandora Labyrinth. Vanquishing monsters will involve making "star children," and since teenagers can't reproduce by budding, players will need to befriend the heroines of Conception 2. It appears each star child's aptitude in battle will also be affected by their mother's weapon of choice.
Unfortunately, this means European fans won't be able to get in on the music CD included with the first run of Conception 2's physical copies. Still, digital-only is a better option than importing, as is the only choice for Rune Factory 4.

Don Bradman Cricket 14 will release at the end of March for Xbox 360 and PS3, developer Big Ant Studios has announced.
No specific date has been announced but the March releases is designed to coincide with the ICC World Twenty20 championship, which takes place in Bangladesh between 16th March and 6th April.
The PC version, the developer said, is being “reengineered” and will be released on Steam two months after the console versions.

It looks as if Sonic might have unpinned his colours from the Nintendo mast.
As confirmed last year, Sega had signed up to a three-game deal with Nintendo that included Sonic: Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics and an as-of-yet unannounced title.
However, VG247 is carrying a still grabbed by Spindashrevealing Sonic’s 2014/15 roadmap. It mentions a “new 2015 title TBA” and lists Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One as the supported formats.
This could be an entirely different game, of course. But if that’s the case, why isn’t the Nintendo-exclusive title on the roadmap?
If true, the new is yet another big blow to Nintendo’s machine which has previously lost exclusivity deals on a number of titles such as Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends, Tecmo Koei’s Ninja Gaiden and Square Enix’s Deus Ex Human Revolution: Director’s Cut.
And while GameStop has subsequently come out and claimed that its removal of listings for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs was a technical error, Ubisoft has repeatedly declined to clarify the SKU’s future when asked by a number of publications.

With outright cancellation highly unlikely, such a move would appear to suggest the firm will grace the open-world hacking game with a new title, although a simple administrative error also cannot be ruled out.
CVG has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.
In mid-October, a month before the game's planned release, Ubisoftdelayed all versions of Watch Dogs until spring 2014.
"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming," the company explained at the time. "From the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality.
"As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes' campaign can be breezed through in less than two hours. That's what GameInformer is reporting anyway (via Kotaku). It's latest issue contains a hands-on look at Kojima Productions upcoming prologue for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Limb, where it stated, "Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short. We completed it in just less than two hours."It's worth noting that this didn't include side-quests or console-exclusive content like thebody snatchers-based Raiden mission on Microsoft consoles or the "Deja Vu" mission with pixelated PSOne Snake on Sony platforms. We've seen this sort of bite-sized prelude before with Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, but that only cost (£3.40 / €4.80 / $4.99), whereas Ground Zeroes is priced at £19.99 on PS3 and Xbox 360 while its PS4 and Xbox One brethren are £29.99. There will also be a retail release on PS3 and Xbox 360 for £29.99.Eurogamer has reached out to Konami to see if this playtime is aberrant and to get an estimate on how long it might take to do everything in Ground Zeroes. We'll update if we hear anything.Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is out in the UK on 20th March and in North America on 18th March.

The upcoming PS4-exclusive "yoga-action-platformer" Commander Cherry's Puzzled Journey has one of the strangest uses of a camera I've seen. We're still not sure the purpose of the creepy pterodactyl mask.
On the surface Commander Cherry's is a typical 2D platformer, but it has one unique twist: you form the platforms by making shapes with your body. That's right. Stretch your arms out for a bridge, kick off to the side to form a ramp, and crouch to form a box. Occasionally you'll be tasked with fitting your body into specific molds to trigger things in the environment. It sounds mental, and German indie developer Grandé Games has noted that there will be an "on-the-fly" co-op mode in which one person can man the controller while another can produce the shapes.Furthermore, you'll wield a lightsaber, which automatically makes everything better. The following trailer shows off the basic concept, though it's a very early prototype. The final game will be fleshed out a lot more with various aliens to meet, planets to explore, and problems to solve.

Poo-your-pants PlayStation 4 horror Outlast launches tomorrow and is free for Plus subscribers.Boo.
Players take on the role of an intrepid (if slightly naive) reporter who tries to investigate an abandoned insane asylum at night with just a battery-powered torch. What could go wrong?Of course, lots of things go wrong."Outlast is a survival horror game created by a team of 11 people with one common goal: to scare the *bleep* out of you," Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin wrote on the EU PlayStation blog."One of the most fun things about watching players make their way through Outlast has been watching the terrified looks on their faces, so we decided to step things up a notch."Newly added on PlayStation 4 is a difficulty level we call 'insane'. If you feel brave enough to pick this mode, you'll have very low health, very few batteries, no checkpoints, and no chance to save your game. It's do or die. Survive or start again."We reviewed Outlast's PC version last year and found it a little rough round the edges, but still well worth exploring."There's little chance to branch off the main path and explore - but that's for the best," Rich McCormick wrote in Eurogamer's Outlast review. "Stop and peer too long into Outlast's gloom and you'll see the zips on the monster costumes. Take it at at speed and you'll find a haunted house worth visiting."

Guess what! Stylish and exacting janitorial platformer Dustforce is getting released on PS3 and Vita this week - today in North America and tomorrow here in Europe - courtesy of Capcom and original indie developer Hitbox. It has cross-play support for cloud saving and cross-platform multiplayer, too. Here's Marsh Davies, in our original PC review of the game from two years ago, to explain why you should care:"As with fellow hardcore platformers N+ and Super Meat Boy, Dustforce can feel a little like punishment - and for those of us whose gaming powers are in decline, its unforgiving progression system and the highly visible scolding of the leaderboards seem like a heartless reminder of failure. It is not, then, a game for those with anger management issues. But even when convulsed with fury, it's hard not to admire the pat precision of the controls or deny the transcendent joy of a high-ranking run."Those with an addiction to high scores will love the many hours they spend smashing themselves repeatedly against the levels' pitiless design. And those who aren't up for the challenge? Dustforce will just take them to the cleaners".It's nails, then. All the better to show up to our Twitch stream of the PS3 version at 5pm GMT today to watch Ian humiliate himself, or cover himself in glory, as appropriate. Also broadcasting in the magic portal below.

The next games in the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series will be released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The news was confirmed during a Take-Two earnings call, which took place last night.
"During fiscal 2015, consumers can look forward to exciting next generation releases from our NBA 2K and WWE franchises as well as other unannounced titles that promise to raise the bar for excellence," said Take-Two president Karl Slatoff.
"Our WWE franchise has quickly proven to be a successful addition to our portfolio," added chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick.
"Sales of WWE 2K14 have exceeded our expectations and the title is being supported with add-on content including a Season Pass featuring many of fan-favorite WWE superstars and legends.
"We believe there is a meaningful opportunity to grow this series by further leveraging 2K's marketing power and development expertise."
Zelnick also praised the release of Visual Concepts' NBA 2K14. "2K builds upon their legacy of delivering the highest graded and top selling basketball video game with their current next-gen releases of NBA 2K14," he said.
"The title has become the fastest selling release in history of our NBA 2K franchise with sell-in to date of more than 5 million units across console and PC."
WWE 2K14 was the first WWE game from Take-Two, after it acquired the rights to the license in February following the demise of THQ.

No, BioShock is not the best selling game to come from the 2K stable.
That honour falls to Borderlands 2, which as revealed by Take-Two in its financials last night has now sold over 8.5m copies meaning it has surpassed every title in the BioShock series and also beaten the NBA 2K games.
As of October 30th Borderlands 2 had seen 7.5m copies shipped to retail, with Take-Two at the time saying it was on track to become its best selling title ever.
It will also be ported to PlayStation Vita this year, although it turns out the March 2014 release date announced last month was actually an error.

Major League Baseball's streaming app, MLB.TV, will arrive this spring, coming to PS4 and Xbox One in addition to the myriad of other platforms it calls home plate.
The professional baseball streaming service is now available for purchase at two price tiers: The standard MLB.TV subscription for $109.99 per year and the Premium subscription for $129.99 per year. Though no details on the next-gen console versions of the baseball app have been provided, MLB Advanced Media tells Joystiq the features found on the Xbox 360 (seen above) and PS3 versions are a "good indicator" of what's to come on Xbox One and PS4. The Xbox 360 version included a split-screen mode for baseball fans to watch two games at once.
The Premium tier grants viewers the ability to watch on connected devices like the aforementioned game consoles, so those looking to stream through their PS4 or Xbox One consoles will need to pony up the extra $20. Premium subscriptions also include access to the mobile app, MLB At Bat 14, viewable on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and Windows Phone 8 devices. Subscriptions for the 2014 baseball season kicks in with spring training game broadcasts, which begin on February 26.

Ethan: Meteor Hunter is a tricky PS3 and PC platformer with time-stopping mechanics, and it was made by the self-described "bastards" at Seaven Studio. It was only in December the French team was lamenting some woeful sales numbers, so it's good to see it's persevering by bringing the game to Vita sometime "soon," in addition to Steam on February 7.
Seaven credits Reddit with getting the game past Greenlight, after users there backed it in the wake of the dispiriting sales. As for the Vita version, one change-up is that players can use Ethan's telekinetic powers to move objects in stasis using the front and rear touchscreens, a feature that Seaven's Olivier Penot said "just made sense."
No word on a release date for Vita, but Seaven is nonetheless ramping up the platformer's second coming with plenty of promos. PS3 users can try out a demo this week, with that version on sale at $7, or $5 for PS Plus users - the game will be Cross-Buy, so getting it on PS3 will unlock the Vita version when it arrives. Meanwhile, the Steam version will be 20 percent off at launch, coming in at $8.

There are certain games to save your progress you have to pass several missions without that sometimes have to beat certain bosses, but never been able to move forward and have to start the mission almost from the start. It's over! with this plugin for TN eCFW you can save the game at any time before the final boss battle and so if you lose you can continue where you recorded. simply great.

Seth Gordon, the man behind The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, is the latest director in talks to helm the Uncharted movie. Deadline reported on Tuesday that production company Arad/Atlas Entertainment brought Gordon on to direct a new script from David Guggenheim.
Gordon has three non-documentary films to his credit, none of which are action films in the vein of Uncharted. Horrible Bosses was well-received enough to earn a sequel, but Four Christmases and last year's Identity Thiefsport Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 19 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Guggenheim's most recent credits include Safe House, the Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington flop, and Stolen, the Nicholas Cage-fueled Taken clone.
The Uncharted movie has had strong talent attached in the past. David O. Russell, the man behind Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, signed on to direct a version starring his regular collaborator Mark Wahlberg back in 2010, but abandoned the movie by 2011. In the years since, the film's hopped between multiple writers and directors. Neil Burger, director of Bradley Cooper thriller Limitless, took over then dropped out before scriptwriting duties shuffled to Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the writing duo behind National Treasure.
Producer Avi Arad has plans for more than one video game adaptation: He is also working with Kojima Productions on a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Having proven itself as a downloadable addition to Assassin's Creed 4, the game's Freedom Cry DLC will see a standalone release - though only on Sony's consoles and PC. The standalone Freedom Cry will be released exclusively as a downloadable title on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. The former two versions of the game are slated to appear on February 18 while the PC incarnation of Freedom Cry will debut on February 25. Each version will feature a $15 price tag and will not require that players already own Assassin's Creed 4.
Freedom Cry stars Adewale, a former slave turned pirate turned assassin, who finds himself shipwrecked on Haiti. As he gathers a ship and crew to return to the sea, Adewale assists the locals in their attempts to escape slavery. Beyond the novel (if short) storyline, Freedom Cry is typical Assassin's Creed fare, full of acrobatic parkour and spectacular instances of stabbing people in the skull.

Curve Studios' stealthy platformer Stealth Inc will receive a special Ultimate Edition version on PS4 in early March, the developer announced today. The bundle will include the base version of the game formerly known as Stealth Bastard as well as its two DLC add-ons, The Teleporter Chambers and The Lost Clones. The pieces of downloadable content add 40 levels to the game's already-existing 80.
Stealth Inc launched on PSN for Vita and PS3 in July 2013, following itsNovember 2012 launch on PC and April 2013 release on Mac and Linux. While it was Cross-Buy-enabled on PSN then, the developer noted today that the Ultimate Edition will not be free for current Stealth Inc owners to download. Still, it is "looking into ways we can offer a very significant discount to people who already own Stealth Inc," and will reveal as much in the coming weeks.

Update: North America joins the Drakengard 3 party the day before Europe on May 20, with the game priced at $50. As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, Square Enix has an appropriately surreal tiered pre-order system in place, in which the earlier you order, the more extra stuff you get.
Square Enix also unveiled the action-RPG's collector's edition today. For $80, you'll get the game with its Japanese box art, a prequel novella, a game and soundtrack sampler, a two-sided collectible poster, and various bits of in-game content including prequel DLC starring One, the sister of the protagonist Zero. It'll be only available through the Square Enix online store, and just 5,000 units are being produced.
Original story:Drakengard 3, the first main entry in Square Enix's action-RPG series in eight years, is due in Europe and other PAL territories on May 21. According to the YouTube description on Square Enix UK's newly released trailer, the PS3 game will only be available as a PSN download in Europe, while North America is getting a retail release as well. There's no news yet on a release date for North America beyond a 2014 window.
Drakengard 3 is a prequel to the original game, and it has a mysterious connection to the Cavia-developed spin-off Nier. No surprises, then, that some members of the now disbanded Cavia team are on board at Access Games, the studio behind Drakengard 3.

Since there's something like 60 games on sale this month over at PSN Europe, we'll try our best to steer you towards the highlights. For starers, The Last of Ushas already been at this price, but the Joystiq Best of 2013 is worth a re-mention at £20/30 euros.
PS4 owners can choose to expand their libraries with Tiny Brains and Knack, the former down to £8.49/10 euros, the latter £35.59/40.19 euros. Meanwhile on PS3, the only just-out Gran Turismo 6 shifts gears to £30/40 euros, and the similarly young (sort of) Soulcalibur 2 HD Online is £8/10 euros.
Resident Evil lovers will be tempted by a bundle of the first three games for £8/10 euros, while Telltale fans may plump for a season pass for The Wolf Among Us - that gets you all five episodes for £10.39/13 euros. Finally, the Vita is on the discount dancefloor too, kicking its style with Tearaway from the team behind LittleBigPlanet. The papercraft platformer is down to just £13/17 euros.
If you're a PS Plus member, you'll get 10 percent off all of the deals above and most of the ones in the February sale. For the full list of reductions, head over to the PS Blog.

We've known for a while that developer CyberConnect2 was planning to bring its manga-based 2D fighter JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle to Western territories, and now we have a few more details on how exactly that's going to happen.
According to Crunchyroll, when JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle makes its English-language debut, the game will feature all of the updates released to date for its Japanese counterpart. Additionally, the Western iteration of the game will include an exclusive arcade mode that pits players against randomly-selected opponents. By defeating these foes your character can earn gold which is useful in purchasing upgrades and items for use in future battles.
Despite the added content, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle will not see a wide-scale release outside of Japan. Instead, the PlayStation 3 game will appear as a download on the PlayStation Network, while limited quantities ofJoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle will appear in physical, boxed form onAmazon and at publisher Bandai Namco's Club Namco online store. Both retailers have priced pre-orders of the physical game at $50.
While it's still unclear when JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle will appear, Crunchyroll claims that the fighter will be released in March. When asked, Bandai Namco representatives refused to confirm or deny this timeframe.

A free week-long beta for Ace Combat Infinity kicks off today on PS3. If you're looking to spread your wings, simply boot up your PS3 and grab the download now.
Ace Combat Infinity, a PS3 exclusive, is the first free-to-play entry in Project Aces' popular plane combat series. The game takes place on an alternate-reality Earth where the worlds' governments banded together and built large orbiting rail guns designed to save the planet from an incoming barrage of space rocks – the byproduct of the accidental destruction of a fictitious moon around Jupiter.
The beta, which ends on February 11, includes samples of two game modes: a single-player campaign and an online co-op game type pitting human players against NPC pilots. All of those who participate in the beta will be given a special in-game emblem that carries over to the full game, which is due for take-off some time this year.

Sony’s upcoming streaming games service PlayStation Now “is a joke” according to outspoken US analyst Michael Pachter.
The problem, he argues, is that publishers will be unwilling to licence their content for fear of adversely affecting their software’s ongoing sales.
"PlayStation Now is a joke," he told Game Informer, as reported by Videogamer. "There is no publisher that is going to license content that's less than two-years old because they would be concerned that they can't sell as many copies if they make it available for subscription or rental.
"This has no prayer of working. None."
The claim will surely depend on the terms being offered to partners by Sony – details of which Pachter may or may not have been briefed on.

Ok guys, you might want to hurry up and grab the game as Mathew_Wi has decided to release the exploit now as the game seems to have been leaked. This is quite disappointing actually because this is the second leak for this kernel exploit.
So, the game is Fifa 11and it is available on the US and JP stores. Although Mathew hasn’t described where the leak happened, I’d like to send out a message to the leaker saying that he hasn’t helped anyone by leaking and instead he has not only ruined many of our plans (like my sleep ) but has also ruined it for all the people who were going through the ninja release the right way.
I’d like to point you and everyone else to the “Regarding ninja releases” thread just to remind you about how a ninja release works. Anyone who has ever wondered why we do ninja releases, it’s because leaks like this just ruin it for everyone.
On to the release, Mathew_Wi posted here on the forums about how annoyed he was with the leak and thus released his exploit.
Since some genius decided to leak the exploit, and wololo isn’t online right now, I am releasing this now. Sorry for breaking rules, but hey some dickhead leaked it and it will likely disappear. I’m doing this because I’d rather not punish the people who were waiting because of some ass hat.

Recently The Z talked about a savestate plugin from Total-Noob coming soon. It has arrived people! I got it as soon as I found out about it I installed it. The things that I like the most about it are that you don’t have to go back to the XMB to load another game and that you can save an XMB state in case you end up messing it up somehow. You can install using (Open)CMA or by using the Plugins method here. If you use the second method you will have to do a “tn savestate wololo” internet search, click on the release link and scroll down to the download link.
Here is the post by Total-Noob. If you can I would recommend donating to him:
TN SaveState Plugin v1
by Total_Noob
Donation
All my works are voluntary and non-profit. But if you want to support me you can donate me a small amount of money. I’ll take it with great pleasure:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c … id=8158859
Introduction
Imagine you’re playing a difficult level where you need so much time to go through, but you always fail at the end against the big boss.
This shouldn’t be annoying anymore, as with this plugin you can save and load states WHENEVER, WHEREVER you want. You can ehm call it…ehm kinda cheating,
but this plugin can also be used for other purposes! In example to make checkpoints in ‘Lego’ games: I totally like them, but it is kinda annoying that
you can only save your data after a LONG play time of a level.
The PSP/PS Vita is intended for short gaming sessions and this is possible! WITH THIS PLUGIN! Now you can fastly switch from game to game, WITH THIS PLUGIN!
It is definitely an ultimate addon to the Custom Emulator Firmware 6.60 TN-V. Also, it is compatible in XMB, PSP GAMES, PS1 GAMES, HOMEBREWS…
Instructions
Custom Emulator Firmware 6.60 TN-V has got a built-in plugin installer. This makes plugin installation as easily as never before:
* Copy ‘P_SVST.ZIP’ to the savedata folder where you usually put your ISOs, homebrews or plugins to. Transfer the savedata to the PS Vita using CMA.
* Boot up the exploit and keep the R trigger pressing while the screen turns from white to green. Now you should be in the recovery menu.
* Select ‘Plugins ->’, then ‘Plugins installer ->’ and install the archive ‘P_SVST.ZIP’.
SaveStates
IMPORTANT! The author will not be responsible of any kind of data loss.
To bring up the ‘TN SaveState Plugin’ menu, hold the START button for one second. You can choose your savestate by using the dialog pad:
* UP/DOWN: Move through slots, up to 10 slots.
* LEFT/RIGHT: Move through different games.
To save/load a state press R respectively L. Then it is important that you go to the livearea (by pressing the blue PlayStation button) and return back
to complete the procedure. This can take some seconds, as the savestate is a 31MB RAM dump compressed (expected compressed size: 3-20MB).
For FW’s below 2.10, the procedure takes some more seconds. After the completion, the (new) game will be resumed automatically.
The savestates are located at /PSP/SAVESTATE/.
Issues
If there are games which have problems or are not compatible with this plugin, please report them. Those bugs are already known and couldn’t be fixed yet:
* Savestates of XMB are not stable at the moment, so don’t use them. However loading states from XMB should work fine.
* Some savestates have got sound issues when they are loaded from XMB or from an other game, so better launch the game first and then load its savestate.
To developers
If you are interested in working on/improving/extending this plugin, feel free to contact me.

After Yifan Lu’s great hardware reports about the PS Vita, its motherboard and its nand, our user Katsu found a way for dual booting the PS Vita, which can kind of be seen as a downgrade solution.
But that is not everything that he was able to do. Katsu is on fire and also looked at the Vita cartridges… see below for some more electronics joy!
PS Vita Cartridge dumps now Possible – Does this enable piracy?
Katsu seems to be able to dump a PS Vita cartridge – you know, those tiny physical modules that contain PS Vita games, a cartridge, like we know them from the Nintendo DS and 3DS – and is therefore able to retrieve the games in the format how they are at the cartridge itself, instead of as a .PKG, like you get them via PSN, or encrypted for the CMA backup, like you get them via the PS3 or PC backup method.
This does not imply that the files from the cartridge are decrypted, that would be a pretty big security flaw for Sony, but we might be able to do more with these files, than we could do with the files as a .PKG or in the backup format.
Keep in mind that this will require hardware modification, and that there is currently no software solution for this. Do not try it yourself, except if you are experienced in hardware modding!
But do those cartridge dumped files enable piracy at our beloved PS Vita? Well, currently there is no way to install PS Vita games without the help of a PC (backup), a PS3 (backup/PSN) or the PSN, so we can say that this does not enable piracy at a PS Vita, … yet.
There might be a possibility to use these cartridge dumps for piracy in the future, but before that happens, more knowledge of the PS Vitas file system would be needed, instead of just the current ePSPs file system. There also would need a way to fake these dumps as cartridges, since (digital/) PSN versions of games are account bound and need a valid license file.
Piracy is currently, thank god, not possible on the PS Vita, and we, at least I, hope that this will stay like that for a long time.

It didn’t take long for Yifan Lu’s investigations to become useful for other hardware hackers! Our community member katsu, guided by Yifan’s precise description of the Vita’s NAND pinouts, was able to hack his PS Vita in order to boot from a previous firmware, technically performing something very similar to a downgrade. Check the video below, it’s cool and full of “electronics porn”, like your favorite cyberpunk movie.
What katsu did was dump his firmware 2.12 (on the NAND), probably using Yifan Lu’s technique. He then copied that Firmware dump to an SD card. In the meantime, he upgraded the PS Vita to firmware 3.01. On the video, you see him inserting his SD card in a reader connected to the Vita. The Vita then reads the content of the SD card (the firmware 2.12 he dumped earlier) instead of its own 3.01 NAND.
What the hell does all of that mean? First of all, that Yifan Lu’s little experiment in the hardware world is proving successful, by providing inspiration and documentation for other talented hardware modders.

Short Waves v0.0.2 is released. Short Waves is a PlayStation 3 (PS3) emulator. It is still far from launching games (2-3 years). Do not expect miracles. As of now the emu can launch just small homebrew apps. System requirements: quad-core CPU and DirectX 9.0 compatible graphics card are recommended, Windows XP or Vista 32-bit. Version for Windows 7 64-bit has not been tested for a long time (my laptop kicked the bucket), so it may not work.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition - whew, long title! - will be swinging and slashing its way across PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 systems on March 25, according to a recent press release from publisher Tecmo Koei. It will be the first Dynasty Warriors game for the PS4.
Complete Edition is a port of Dynasty Warriors 8 plus its stand-alone expansion,Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends, which also has a release date of March 25. Xtreme Legends, like any good expansion, brings new levels, new characters and expanded modes. Five new characters bring the total roster up to 82, which is, technically-speaking, a freaking lot of people to play as.
Already a Dynasty Warriors fan with a head-start on the PS3 version of the game looking to upgrade to the PS4 or Vita version? Good news, everyone! YourDynasty Warriors 8 save file will transfer across all systems.
Tecmo previously tweeted that the games would be coming in spring 2014, but now you know exactly which date to call in sick be a responsible adult.

Pascal Bestebroer, also known as indie developer Orangepixel, is bringingGunslugs to the PS Vita later this month. Abstraction Games will help out with the Vita port.
Gunslugs is a chaotic 2D shooter with randomly generated levels. Bestebroer says difficulty is emphasized in Gunslugs and other games from his indie outfit. "Not brutal, and always fair," Bestebroer wrote on the PlayStation Blog, "but they are really hard."
There are six worlds, not counting the bonus worlds, to explore in Gunslugs. Each world is broken into two levels, along with a boss fight at the end. Mission objectives and leaderboards round out the content.
We interviewed Bestebroer early last year when he was working on the first version of Gunslugs. He described the game as "that game you played when you were a kid, pretending that your toy figurines were fighting a big war against evil, blowing everything up with a huge amount of fun."

Having finally sorted its issues with original Skullgirls publisher Konami, developer Lab Zero Games has revealed the date the game will return to the PlayStation Network: February 11.
Instead of simply re-releasing the fighter, Lab Zero is offering players an upgraded version of the game dubbed Skullgirls Encore. While very similar to its predecessor, Skullgirls Encore technically qualifies as an entirely new game. As a result, none of the DLC released to date for the original Skullgirls will be compatible with Encore, according to Lab Zero Games. To offset this inconvenience, Skullgirls Encore brings a host of gameplay tweaks as well as a new character, a meek opera singer named Squigly who attacks foes via an erudite, dragon-like parasite. Further, Lab Zero is offering Skullgirls Encore at no charge to those who previously purchased the original incarnation ofSkullgirls on PSN.

Indie developer FuturLab has detailed Velocity Ultra's upcoming PlayStation 4 and PS Vita sequel Velocity 2X, showcasing an in-progress alpha version in the newly launched trailer above.
While its predecessor Velocity Ultra was an overhead-view shooter that encouraged players to backtrack throughout each level to find hidden switches and item pick-ups, Velocity 2X takes these exploration elements to new extremes, introducing side-scrolling platforming segments that bridge short bursts of shoot-'em-up gameplay.
During each level in Velocity 2X, players infiltrate enemy strongholds and search for survivors from a Metroid-like side-scrolling perspective. Gameplay maintains the same frantic pace throughout, and players retain the ability to teleport through walls in both shooter and platforming sequences.
Velocity 2X is due to hit the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita via the PlayStation Network later this year.

SoulCalibur: Lost Swords will launch this spring on PSN, Namco Bandai (soon to be Bandai Namco) announced today. The launch window for the free-to-play fighting game is for Europe and Australasian regions; no word on a North American release date as of yet. It was originally expected in winter 2013. Meanwhile, Japanese players should be able to check out the game today.
SoulCalibur: Lost Swords is exclusive to PS3, and features weapon forging and discovery as well as elemental combat. According to the trailer that accompanied the announcement, players will "gather allies from around the world" by using friends' characters for support in their battles. EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, the official video game of football's biggest event, will not be coming to PC or next-gen platforms.
Publisher EA said the game would launch "exclusively on PS3 and Xbox 360" on April 17th in the UK and Europe.
"Why isn't our World Cup game on Xbox One/PS4? We are making the best game we can for our largest audience, which is still on 360 & PS3," it said in a statement.
"For fans on Xbox One/PS4, FIFA14 will have a range of World Cup content and tournaments within FIFA Ultimate Team. More news closer to the tournament."
Customers who pre-order the game can receive exclusive content including new celebrations, historic Adidas game balls and more.
2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil boasts 203 national teams, 7,469 players, 19 officially licensed managers and 21 new stadiums including all 12 authentic stadiums from Brazil. There are also 'Live City' events around the globe. For example, when a player scores a goal with England they see fans react live from the centre of London.
Fans can get tournament updates from EA SPORTS Talk Radio, featuring Ian Darke and Andy Goldstein, or Roger Bennett and Michael Davies, with over 50 hours of recorded content to stay up to date on all the action. Then there's 'Road to Rio de Janeiro' - a new mode that lets players play their way across a map of Brazil’s 12 host cities in licensed and authentic stadiums.
There is currently no word on a PC version of the game. PCR has contacted EA Sports for clarification.

Activision expects Destiny to be a record-breaking release when it arrives late this year.
Speaking to investors last night, CEO Bobby Kotick said that the game “has the potential to be Activision’s next billion dollar franchise”, adding that he expects Destiny “will become the best selling new video game IP in history when it launches across Xbox and PlayStation consoles.”
Its other two billion dollar brands are Call of Duty and Skylanders.
Destiny will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on September 9th. That may seem a long way away for a concrete date, but Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg is confident of his company’s ability to hit that target.
“We have a very strong history of meeting our dates once they are announced and we have every confidence of the game,” he stated. “The game looks great, and it's on track and we will deliver that.
“As of everything we do on Destiny is a partnership. The partners of Bungie are interestingly completed aligned and we're building this as a ten-year franchise and we need the best game possible.”

PS4 now have more control of their gameplay experience in Killzone: Shadow Fall.
Today’s v1.90 patch introduces amongst other things the option to lock the game’s campaign mode to 30 frames per second.
Said Guerrilla: “To guarantee a steadier framerate in the campaign mode, players can now lock their game to 30fps via the options menu.”
There are a number of other principally-online additions, too, such as improved in-game clan functionality, new Warzone options, extra checkpoint saving and a fix to the VC30 flashlight fix.

At least two million PlayStation 4 owners have subscribed to PlayStation Plus, Sony's chief executive has revealed.
During an investor call on Thursday, CEO Kaz Hirai claimed that "of all the 4.2 million PS4s that have moved into the hands of consumers, more than half of those people have signed up for the PS Plus service".
Hirai was appointed Sony chief executive in April 2011. He previously led the PlayStation businessHirai and Sony's chief executive officer, Masaru Kato, declined to offer a specific number.
Both executives stated during the press conference that PS4 is selling above expectations, though claimed that the downturn in PS3 trading was more acute than initially expected.
Sony previously projected to sell a combined 15 million PS3 and PS4s by the end of March, and despite the fluctuations of both consoles' performance, said the target remains unchanged.
Kato also claimed that there are now more than 150 million PlayStation Network accounts, though it is unclear how many of those are active, and not duplicate accounts from a single user.
PlayStation Plus, a premium subscription service, grants PS4 players access to online multiplayer. Those signed up also can take advantage of various discounts to digital game downloads and content. Meanwhile, each month two new games are made available to subscribers for free on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.
Customers who have all three active Sony consoles therefore are offered six games per month to play for free, which will remain in their library as long as their $5/month subscription is maintained.
On Thursday, Sony told investors it is preparing for sweeping cost-cutting measures that will result in about 5,000 redundancies.
The media empire's TV segment will be spun off into a subsidiary, while Sony is looking to sell its PC business.
Despite the corporation projecting an annual loss overall, the games segment continues to grow.

The achievements list for South Park: The Stick of Truth has leaked online and - who'd have thought - it contains a typically un-PC set of awards.Eight achievements involve farting on people, while another - "New Kid on the Block" - gifts 15 Gamerscore when you "Join the KKK" (thanks, Xbox Achievements). Whether this is the actual KKK - which has popped up in South Park - or something else, is unknown. To gain all flatulence-related awards you'll need to fart on animals, your friends, unconscious enemies and various members of South Park law enforcement.Dog Whistle, for 15G, will unlock when you fart on a canine enemy while in Gnome form. Fart on people 100 times and you'll get another 15G (the "Canadian Handshake")."Fling a turd that you created at an enemy" and you'll get another 15G, as will defeating a group of Meth Tweekers while dressed as Breaking Bad's Heisenberg. And yes, there is an award for killing Kenny.South Park: Stick of Truth's launch is now less than a month away - it's set to arrive in the UK for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 7th March.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag shipped about 10 million copies from its release through December 31, 3014, Ubisoft announced Monday.
The figures were revealed as part of Ubisoft's third-quarter 2013-2014 statement. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot provided some perspective around the numbers in a conference call with investors.
"We expect to reach around 11 million by the end of March, a remarkable performance close to the high end of our plan," Guillemot said. "Pricing was very strong, almost on par with last year's level. We are extremely proud of this achievement notably in the face of a challenging environment and an exceptionally competitive context."
Sales for Assassin's Creed 4 have not quite matched those of Assassin's Creed 3, which Ubisoft said shipped and digitally distributed more than 12 million copies in the same period of 2013. Guillemot said sales for Assassin's Creed 4 were stronger through the first six weeks of 2014 than those of Assassin's Creed 3 in the same period last year.
In our Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag review we said "pieces of its breathtaking oceanic playground remain with you long after you put the pad down." The PlayStation 4 version of the game received a 2.3 GB single-player patch last week.

First-person heister Payday 2 will be available free on PlayStation 3 for North American PS Plus subscribers as of Tuesday.
Sony announced Monday that the co-op shooter, which lets up to four players team up to rob banks, cause havoc, and flee the police, is the next addition to its Instant Game Collection.
In our Payday 2 review we found the game to be a "superb co-op shooter" with "tense, unpredictable missions," as long as you have a few friends to play with - which should be an easier proposition after it joins the Instant Game Collection.
LlamaSoft's Tempest-inspired shooter TxK will also be available on PS Vita starting Tuesday at a subscriber price of $7.99 through February 18. The firm has not yet announced the PlayStation Store's European plans for this week.
Sony announced on Friday that half of all PlayStation 4 owners subscribe to the service.
First-person horror game Outlast debuted on PlayStation Store last week, where it was also free for PlayStation Plus subscribers in North America and Europe.

Borderlands 2 is coming to PS Vita in the spring, Sony head of hardware marketing John Koller announced at a PlayStation event in Santa Monica today. Vita's Borderlands 2 includes DLC, and it will allow four-player co-op and cross-play with access to save games from the PS3 version.
The new, slimmer Vita will launch in North America this spring, bundled withBorderlands 2 and an 8GB memory card for $200, Koller said. The remodeled Vita hit the UK on February 7 for £180 (just under $300), following its launch in Japan last year. This new Vita is 20 percent thinner, 15 percent lighter, has an LCD screen rather than OLED, 1GB memory and a micro USB slot.
A God of War collection and a Sly Cooper collection are also on their way to Vita, courtesy of Sanzaru Games. The God of War bundle contains God of War 1 and2, and is due out on May 6. The Sly Collection includes Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racconus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, and launches on May 27.
Borderlands 2 is 2K's highest-selling game ever, with more than 8.5 million units shipped.

Publisher Devolver Digital has announced Vlambeer's chaotic 2D dogfighter,Luftrausers, will launch simultaneously on PS Vita, PS3, PC, Mac and Linux later this year. "Hope to have a date soon," the announcement tweet adds.
In Luftrausers, players pilot highly modular planes across more than 100 different missions. With each successful mission, players unlock more parts to greater customize their aerial death machines.
Luftrausers is a sequel to Luftrauser, Vlambeer's free-to-play Flash game. Vlambeer originally planned to launch Luftrausers last year, but a combo of having to work out the deal with Sony for the PS Vita and PS3 ports, on top of ongoing development for Ridiculous Fishing, contributed to Luftrauser's new launch window this year.

Just because the cars don't turn any direction but left in a real-life NASCAR race doesn't mean the NASCAR games can't change things up every now and again. NASCAR '14, developed by Eutechnyx, will be the first in the series to allow for players to form an online league.
Up to 16 players can form a league and race through the Sprint Cup, accordingto Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard. "Without question, this was the most requested feature," Eutechnyx Executive VP Ed Martin told Extra Mustard. "We expect hundreds of thousands of people to be running their own season."
Unfortunately, none of those 16 people will be racing on next-gen consoles. Martin said there aren't enough consoles out in the wild yet to justify development costs. "The nail in the coffin was when a guy from Sony talked about Gran Turismo, and how their new game was launching on PS3. He said something like, 'Why would we put Gran Turismo on a console that has zero units in the market when there are 150 million PlayStation 3s out there?'"
"It costs us about $6 million to develop a next-gen version of NASCAR. You have to sell an awful lot of copies in order to meet the development costs, on top of all the licensing," Martins noted. "We own the rights, and we absolutely have plans, but it won't be later this year."

It's almost Valentine's Day, so polish your guns, stock up on ammo and make sure your ride is bullet-proof. That's how this day works, right? It certainly does in Grand Theft Auto Online: The Valentine's Day Massacre update hits for free on Friday, February 14, featuring lovely new items for Story Mode and Online.
Valentine's Day Massacre adds a new weapon, vehicle, clothes and 10 new jobs. The Gusenberg Sweeper machine gun will be available at the Ammu-Nation store in Online and automatically deposited into inventories in Story Mode. The new vehicle, the Albany Roosevelt, is an armored 1920s limo available in any garage in Story Mode and from the Legendary Motorsport in-game website in Online. New attire is flapper-themed, and new jobs include Deathmatches, a new Parachute Jump and new Races.

Speaking as a seasoned loser of Souls, playing the first two hours of Dark Souls 2 doesn't provide the culture shock of the previous two games. Demon's Soulsbellows its cruelty by killing you mercilessly within minutes of starting, whileDark Souls literally sends you round in a circle like some kind of sick joke, but there isn't something in the opening of From's latest action-RPG that screams out "I am what Dark Souls 2 is!" Not that this is a bad thing.
If there is something that defines the opening beyond its genetics, it's a new attention to accessibility. Yet that DNA of slow, torturous exploration remains encouragingly unscathed.

The Invizimals series is bringing its reality-augmenting critters back to North America, with portable and console entries due this year. Vita game Invizimals: The Alliance and PS3 companion Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom hit Europe last year. Despite not bringing the series' PSP game stateside, Sony Computer Entertainment America stepped in to ferry the duo over this time around.
Given the Vita's built-in augmented reality features, Invizimals: The Alliancewas always a given. The portable game rekindles the series' Pokemon-like unearthing and capturing of monsters, with players using touch and noise to capture their psuedo-real prey.
Meanwhile, PS3 game The Lost Kingdom is the first in the series to shy away from AR, instead dropping players into a colorful 3D action-adventure set in the Invizimals' world. The PS3 game syncs up with its Vita sibling, letting players duke it out in a cross-system battle arena for up to four players, additionally allowing players to transfer items across the two games.
Fans of the three PSP games, including Invizimals: The Lost Tribes, which never made it stateside, will be pleased to hear SCEA's Nick Accordino say there's a "nice chance" of them showing up on PSN.

Two premium DLC characters will be available on both PS3 and PS Vita, as well as one more unlockable on-disc character. A limited edition version ofBlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, exclusive to PS3, tosses in a behind-the-scenes Blu-ray, poster and other goodies for $80.

While it would be thematically appropriate to steal a copy of Payday 2, come tomorrow that's no longer necessary as the PS3 multiplayer heist game will be added to the roster of free games on offer to PlayStation Plus members.
Payday 2 centers on a group of criminals attempting to swipe cash and other valuables from targets like banks and jewelry stores. Solo play is possible, but the real potential of Payday 2 is found when playing with three other people. The game's AI is relatively predictable, but when you're attempting to loot a mall with a crew of like-minded felonious humans, you never know when one of them is going to shoot a hostage or set off an alarm, sending the heist into chaos. "Payday 2 is a nonstop series of little stories and moments of surprise like this, challenging your ability to absorb and adapt with each succeeding moment," Dave wrote in our review, before awarding the game 4 of 5 stars.
As with all Instant Game Collection releases, a PlayStation Plus membership is required to pick up Payday 2 for free. Full details on how to attain that membership can be found on the PlayStation Plus website, or by visiting any iteration of the PlayStation Network Store.

PS4 and Xbox One are the lead platforms for this year’s as-of-yet unannounced Call of Duty.
“Sledgehammer is approaching this as a next-gen-first development,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told IGN. “Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process.
“Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is our primary development.”
This may not come as a surprise, of course, but don’t forgetthat some upcoming titles are apparently still leading on Xbox 360 and PS3 due to the larger size of the combined install bases.
And that’ll be exactly why Hirshberg is keen to reassure owners of those systems.
“Call of Duty will also be a great current-gen game,” he insisted. “There are still a lot of people playing on current gen and we want to deliver a great experience for them as well. But it will be a next-gen-first production and the current-gen game will be a version of that.”

Sony has revealed that digital has very nearly overtaken physical in the Vita software market.
Speaking at a behind-closed-doors meeting in California, the platform holder revealed to IGN that digital games sales now account for 48 per cent of Vita’s total software sales.
We wonder what the ratio would be were Vita memory cards more affordable?
The company added that there are now nearly 1,000 games available for Vita when PSOne Classics and PSP titles are included.
Also confirmed is the fact that one in three Vita owners also own a PS4 and that 250,000 people to date have sampled the Remote Play feature. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, NBA 2K14, and Don’t Starve are the most streamed games to date.

Borderlands 2 is heading to PS Vita – alongside a hardware bundle packaging the game with the new, slimmer Vita.
Sony's John Koller announced the news at California PlayStation event this week, adding that a Vita Borderlands 2 hardware bundle will launch alongside the game this spring. The package includes the new model of Vita, a copy of the game, and an 8GB memory card for $200.
The upcoming handheld version of Borderlands 2 will carry four-player co-op, along with cross-play and save support with the PS3 version. It also contains six DLC packs, in addition to the base game.
The bundle's release will mark the North American debut of the slim PS Vita. The model launched in the UK earlier this week, following last year's initial launch in Japan.
Sony also revealed that God of War and Sly Cooper collections are in the works for Vita. The God of War bundle, packing God of War 1 and 2, is scheduled for May 6th. The Sly Cooper pack, which contains Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racconus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, launches on May 27th.

DFC has given us exclusive access to their new forecast, which predicts "major growth" among the core gaming audience
In its new report, shared exclusively withGamesIndustry International in advance of its release, the researchers at DFC Intelligence have raised their worldwide game revenue forecast to $77 billion in 2014 (up from $68 billion in 2013), and by 2018 the firm believes the industry will be fast approaching $100 billion, reaching about $96 billion. The reason for the buoyed optimism? DFC sees the "core gamer spending more than ever."
In fact, while the Wii was the only console of the last generation to exceed the 100 million units sold mark, DFC is forecasting that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both hit that mark (by 2020) and that "price and strength in Europe give the PlayStation 4 a slight edge." Moreover, PS4 "could easily become lead platform for Western and Japanese developer / publishers." That said, DFC said there's still "a great deal of room for positioning by both companies." If DFC's model holds true, it would be the first time that two competing systems both sold 100 million units.
DFC's David Cole told us that price cuts were factored into his company's new forecast, but they may come slower than gamers would like. "We modeled price cuts into that but we think they are going to happen fairly slowly and there are likely to be more bundles versus just a straight price cut. We think they will do their best to maintain a solid price point," he said.

Redesigned PS Vita, already available in Japan and Europe, is headed stateside with a $199 Borderlands 2 bundle
Sony Computer Entertainment America
us.playstation.com
Ever since the launch of the PS4, there's been a renewed push from Sony around the PS Vita, which enables Remote Play of PS4 titles. While that's a nice feature, Sony is hoping that its new design for the portable drives still more interest. Today, the company finally confirmed that the new model is coming to the US market this spring, as part of a bundle that includes Borderlands 2, an 8GB memory card and six DLC packs, all for the price of $199.
While Borderlands is a Gearbox Software title, the PS Vita version is being co-developed by Iron Galaxy and will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
The PS Vita "slim" as some have called it already was released in Japan last year and just last week shipped in the UK. While the new design is 15 percent lighter and 20 percent thinner, one major subtraction (according to numerous critics) is that it incorporates an LCD screen instead of the original Vita's OLED. That means that certain colors may not "pop" as much or that black shades in some games could look slightly more washed out than on the OLED. The tradeoff, however, is that battery life on the new model has been improved.
At this point, Sony has not made it clear if the new design will replace the original PS Vita, or if they will both continue to be sold at retail.

According to SCEA's hardware marketing VP John Koller, around one in three Vita owners also own a PS4.
Koller said the impressive attach rate is thanks to the PS4's Remote Play feature, which lets users play PS4 games on the Vita via a high-speed wireless connection that's much improved over PS3 Remote Play.
"Remote Play has really been one of those areas that has caused a lot of PS4 consumers to go out and buy a vita, so we've seen these sales pick up since the PS4 launched," said Koller at a recent Sony press event attended by CVG.
"I think that's great news for all of our independent developers as well as front-line developers and publishers as well. It's a good market for us right now."
Koller also said that almost half of all PlayStation Vita software is purchased digitally.
The new slim PlayStation Vita will arrive in North America "this spring" with a $199 Borderlands 2 bundle, Sony announced at the same event.

PS3 and Xbox 360 demos of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 are out today. A Steam demo will be out tomorrow, Konami has said.On Xbox Live, the demo is just over 700MB.In the demo you're Dracula, gagging on plastic fangs, dribbling fake blood and swishing a static-charged polyester cape. Not really! Had you going! The demo's actually a prelude to the full game, and puts you in Dracula's boots as he comes under attack from the Brotherhood of Light. You'll use the Void Sword and the Chaos Claws, and you'll even fight a huge Titan, effectively a moving level, which you'll climb and then presumably defeat. The full game is out 28th February.

The PS4 Final Fantasy 14 beta will be broken into two phases. There will be a character wipe after the first phase, which starts 22nd Feb (free to all) and ends 3rd March, according to the PlayStation blog. But characters created for the second phase - 4th April to 7th April - will be carried over into the full game. You can use your existing PC or PS3 characters in the PS4 beta by transferring character data. You won't have to do this when the full game launches on 14th April, as everyone will play on the same servers. If you want to transfer your PS3 FF14 account to PS4, you can do so starting 11th April, enjoying early access until 13th April. Once you transfer there's no going back, though, and if you want to play on both machines you'll need to buy a second copy of the game. The PS4 version of FF14 - a relaunched game that's reinvigorated Square Enix's fortunes - features Vita Remote Play, so you can "craft, gather and play wherever you go", or so it says. There's mouse and keyboard support, touchpad support, and Share support for screenshots and videos.

The online arm of GameStop UK is selling PlayStation 4 consoles for £329.97 - a tidy £20 saving off of the console's usual retail price.
There's no fancy extras in the pack, obviously, just the PS4 console and a DualShock 4 controller. It's the first time we've seen PlayStation 4 available at a small discount - several weeks after Zavvi and The Hut began selling Xbox One for a similar reduction. And it's worth noting that both of those online stores continue to offer Microsoft's console at £20 off its usual £429.99.Online retail giant Amazon often matches the price of other retailers, but the PlayStation 4 pack remains only available from there at a more expensive price via a third-party seller.GameStop's £329.97 price is the cheapest we've seen for Sony's next-gen console to date - is it enough to tempt you?

Publisher Ubisoft announced Wednesday that the Obsidian Entertainment RPG based on the animated comedy show is finally on its way to manufacturing, set to hit PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 4 in North America, March 6 in Australia, and March 7 in Europe.
The firm released a new behind-the-scenes documentary starring South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to celebrate the occasion. In the video, the pair discusses the process of partnering with Obsidian to ensure the game's look and feel was identical to that of a South Park episode. They don't mention its first publisher going out of business.
The move from now-defunct THQ to Ubisoft prompted one of many delays for the game, which was originally planned to launch in the second half of 2012. Ubisoft announced in October that South Park: The Stick of Truth needed a "major overhaul" after it acquired the game.
A list of achievements for the game began circulating earlier this week, including rewards for joining Cartman's unfortunately named club and letting Kenny die ten times in battle.

TxK, the latest game from Jeff Minter's Llamatron, will be released on the PS Vita in Europe later today.
The news was confirmed on the PlayStation Europe Blog, where Minter wrote a guest column explaining the game.
TxK is a "neo-retro" shooter inspired by Llamatron's previous cult favourite Tempest 2000.
"Since [Tempest 2000] we've done a lot of work in a variety of different styles across a lot of platforms," Minter said. "When given the opportunity to create a game for PS Vita we thought it'd be nice to do something in the style of the very genre that we helped originate 20 years ago, and so TxK was born."
The game features 100 levels, three gameplay modes and a soundtrack created by "a whole herd of excellent musicians," according to Minter.
He added: "We've tried to create something that is pure and beautiful in the same way as the old abstract vector-graphics arcade games, but vibrant and modern in aspect and effects as you play.
"Unlike in arcade games we're not obliged to make games punishingly short so as to keep you putting coins in the machine. You can settle in and enjoy the ride. We believe that playing a game should be its own reward, whether or not you end up getting a high score. Games should be all about having fun."

Sony aiming to keep PS3 going for another 2-4 years, and company also wants to make sure retailers can participate in PS Now
Sony Computer Entertainment America
us.playstation.com
With 4.2 million PS4 units sold over the holidays,Sony's gaming business is off to a red hot start in the next generation. While the industry is quickly turning its attention to the new consoles, the older systems' large installed bases cannot be forgotten and Sony wants to ensure that PS3 maintains a healthy ecosystem for years to come.
Speaking with GameSpot, John Koller, director of hardware marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, remarked that PS3 remains a very viable business opportunity for Sony, as long as the company keeps bringing good content to the platform.
"We believe that the platform has a lot of life left in it. Two, three, four years; we think there's time left in the platform. It depends on the content. We have a good lineup this year and it looks like a good lineup next year. We need to keep fueling that. We really have to keep PS3 alive. And so to do that, we have to further the content. I think there will be a good story for the PS3 over the next year to two years," he said.
Elsewhere in the discussion Koller commented on the pending launch of Sony's streaming games service PlayStation Now. While the announcement of the Gaikai-based service immediately took its toll on retailer GameStop's stock, Sony believes it can work with retail to ensure that brick-and-mortar plays a role in the otherwise all-digital business.
"We actually need to work through with them how do they help sell it; because they certainly want to participate. And then how do we make sure that they still retain what's theirs; and that's [release windows for physical products] that make sense. We believe in retailers; we believe in GameStop, we believe in Amazon, we believe in all of them; we believe in physical discs, we believe in used games. And we want to make sure that stays true. We want to make it incremental to their business; help them sell it and make margins for themselves, too," Koller stated.
A lot of cynicism still surrounds cloud gaming in general today, but Koller remains much more optimistic about PlayStation Now and streaming games for the industry as a whole. "We're pretty bullish about that whole idea. We think streaming is going to be a view to a gaming future," he said.
"Certainly the Gaikai technology gives us a lot of confidence. And the way it's been built; it's been built the right way. Obviously, a streaming gaming service doesn't work if you're seeing high latency and the immediacy's not there. Clearly that's not the case here. PlayStation Now is something that I think does something that no other streaming service so far--rumored or in market--has done; and that's provide very low latency and very immediate gameplay. We're confident about this."

If you want to try a bite-sized portion of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, look no further than a demo that's out now on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It was limited to purchasers of Mirror of Fate HD or the Lords of Shadow Collection, but now every bat in the belfry can have a go.
The demo begins with Gabriel Belmont in the form of Dracula, dispensing hack-and-slash with his newly acquired powers and weapons, like the soul-stealing Void Sword and the deadly Chaos Claws. Things soon escalate, and Dracula finds himself defeating wave after wave of enemies as he tries to ascend a titan-like mechanical knight - as you do.
If you'd rather wait for the game proper before seeing it for yourself, you don't have long to hold out. Lords of Shadow 2 swoops into North America in two weeks time on February 25, and Europe a few days later on February 28.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has backed Sony in the next-gen console war.
Although he didn’t name names specifically, a statement in Famitsu (as reported by DualShockers) makes it pretty clear where the cult developer’s affections lie.
“I think, between the home consoles available in the domestic market, the PS4 is the best,” he said.
“It’s also excellent for graphics, being able to render 1080p at 60fps with room to spare. Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful. It’s the closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at.”
Kojima also revealed that “thanks to the PS4’s memory it’s possible to load the map in the background without the loading times that were necessary [with previous machines]” and bigged up the Remote Play functionality on Vita.

Sony is aiming to support its PlayStation 3 hardware with new releases for at least another two years, the company has revealed.
In an interview with GameSpot, SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller discussed the importance of not overlooking PS3's established install base – specifically in the wake of PS4's initial success.
"We believe that the platform has a lot of life left in it. Two, three, four years; we think there's time left in the platform. It depends on the content. We have a good lineup this year and it looks like a good lineup next year," Koller said.
"We need to keep fueling that. We really have to keep PS3 alive. And so to do that, we have to further the content. I think there will be a good story for the PS3 over the next year to two years."
Koller also touched on the potential of PlayStation Now and streaming games for the industry as a whole – even if the technology hasn't yet reached a point where it can handle mass consumption.
"We're pretty bullish about that whole idea. We think streaming is going to be a view to a gaming future. Certainly the Gaikai technology gives us a lot of confidence. And the way it's been built; it's been built the right way.”
“Obviously, a streaming gaming service doesn't work if you're seeing high latency and the immediacy's not there. Clearly that's not the case here. If you're not much for the romantic angle of Valentine's Day and haven't gone broke buying up pounds of discounted holiday chocolate, the PlayStation Store is offering deals on select PS3, PS4 and Vita games until February 17.
Among the listings are co-op friendly titles LEGO Marvel Super Heroes for $19.99 on Vita, $24.99 on PS3 and $29.99 on PS4. The team-up brawler Castle Crashers is available on PS3 for $3.49, as is the puzzling ibb & obb for $4.99. If you're aiming for something more competitive, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is available on PS3 for $9.99, and the Cross-Buy compatible Divekick is on PS3 and Vita for $2.49. You could always fight for court dominance in NBA 2K14 on PS3 for $39.99, too.
If you're gaming alone, don't worry! There are plenty of fish on the PlayStation Network.

NIS America announced that it has four games slated for North American release in 2014, including a sequel to its recently-released PS Vita adventure game, Danganronpa.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair directly follows up on Trigger Happy Havoc's murderous courtroom storyline, and is set to premiere digitally and at retail in North America and Europe this fall. Sweden-based studio Image & Form Games revealed that its mining-themed 2D platformer SteamWorld Dig is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2014, following up on previous releases for the Nintendo 3DS and PC platforms.

ChunSoft's Zero Escape franchise is currently in limbo, as series director Kotaro Uchikoshi revealed this week that his team was unsuccessful in securing a budget for a proposed third entry in the series, due to a lack of sales.
Though previous series entries Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors andVirtue's Last Reward were well-received overseas, Uchikoshi notes that neither game was much of a success in Japan, leading to disinterest in a sequel among managerial staff. Despite the recent setback, however, Uchikoshi maintains thatZero Escape 3 "will definitely be released somehow, someday!"
Fans of the series responded to the news with an outpouring of support via Twitter. Uchikoshi currently seeks funding for the project from a third-party investor.
"If there is an great investor who thinks 'Virtue is its own reward', I wish him/her to send me a message," Uchikoshi stated. "If you know such a wonderful person, please induce him/her to cooperate."

Austin Wintory doesn't like manipulating people. He could, pretty easily, if he wanted to, because he's a gifted musician with a knack for creating evocative music, but he doesn't have any interest in forcing you to feel a certain way. His approach to scoring a game like The Banner Saga is less about the obvious and more about the subtext – opening a door to an emotional space and letting you decide whether to walk in or not. Which sounds pretty high-minded for a game with giant warriors sporting goat horns, but that's just what's on the surface. Music's job lies in subtext.
"The game should already be, for example, sad," he explained to me at DICE. "My job is to make you understand why and add a sense of stakes and weight to what's happening, not to try make you have this base understanding that 'Now it's sad!' as if you would have missed that."
Wintory, who admits to having worked on "not so good" movies, acknowledges that his job as composer is "a lot easier to do" when he's given excellent material to work with. Journey, he said, was so brilliant that he barely had to do anything. He could just "go in there and play" (and get nominated for a Grammy). Stoic Studio's The Banner Saga was similarly inspiring, but first he had to figure out the right way to handle its turn-based-strategy nature. He did at least know what he didn't want to do with it.
"How to score the actual turn-based-strategy combat was a big question mark for me," Wintory said. He didn't want to take the same musical route as Banner Saga's most obvious recent comparison, XCOM, which featured fast-paced music. "All due respect to XCOM, I wanted to be the exact opposite of that, where I'm doing this, trying to contemplate the best strategy and I'm hearingpop-pop-pop-pop-pop that's like wailing away telling me 'Isn't this exciting?'"

Combining intrepid rodents with the gaming industry's favorite suffix comesMousecraft, a new puzzle game from indie developer Curve Studios.
"The basic gameplay [in Mousecraft] is very simple: Your goal is to lead a group of mice through a machine to find the cheese at the other end of the level," wrote Curve Studios PR manager Rob Clarke on the PlayStation.blog. "You don't control the mice directly however, but instead control their environment through the use of many different types of classic 'Tetromino' blocks that can be dropped onto the level."
"Imagine the careful strategy and planning of a game like Lemmings with the blocks and fast-paced decision making of Tetris, and you've got an idea of howMousecraft works," Clarke added.
According to the developer, Mousecraft will feature 50 stages of increasing complexity, online leaderboards, an in-game ranking system, collectables to hunt and a "fully-featured level editor available during launch."
Curve Studios claims that Mousecraft "should" be available on Vita and PC at some point in May, with a PlayStation 4 version of the puzzle game following this summer. It's currently unknown what price point will be attached toMousecraft.

Sony has taken an impressive lead over the Xbox One across the pond.
Figures from NPD reveal the PS4 leads hardware sales in the US – a feat Sony says it has achieved despite "severely constrained" stock of the console.
Despite trailing to its rival, the Xbox One is still selling well ahead of its predecessor. Microsoft's figures estimate the new console is outselling the 360 at a rate of 2.29 times faster.
Overall, the total spend on video games hardware and software declined by one per cent in January 2014 compared to the same month of the previous year.
However, that figure has been 'normalised' to account for the five week period last year when compared to this year's four week January. Without this process, the figures are closer to a 21 per cent decline and a value of $664m versus $835m in 2013.
In terms of software, Microsoft says Xbox is still king.
The Xbox One and 360 accounted for 47 per cent of software sales last month, higher than Sony's machines according to the platform holder's report.
But software Top Ten for January showed PS4 editions of games outsold their Xbox One-based counterparts, excluding Call of Duty: Ghosts and Lego Marvel.

Borderlands 3 isn't in development yet, Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford has said, but more Borderlands is on its way.
Pitchford has lofty aims for a true Borderlands sequel - goals that are perhaps too big for the studio to tackle at this moment in time with other projects under its wing.
"We are not working on Borderlands 3," Pitchford told Polygon. "That is unqualified. We have more to do in the franchise, but no there isn't a Borderlands 3."
He added, "When you think of what Borderlands 3 should be, it should be massive. It should be bigger and better than Borderlands 2. It should carry forward the story. It's probably crazy multiplatform, depending on timing. It would have to be a next-gen game and a current-gen game, if it was coming at any time in the reasonably near future."
Pitchford went on to make Borderlands fans a distinct promise. "I'm not going to **** around with you like Valve does with Half-Life 3," he said.
"We know we want it and we know it should exist, but we don't know what it is yet."
Gearbox has already previously confirmed it is developing two titles for Sony and Microsoft's new consoles within new and original IPs. It's also working in collaboration with Telltale on that studio's 'Tales From the Borderlands' spin-off.
Borderlands 2 will also make its Vita debut this 'Spring' in conjunction with the new PS Vita Slim's North American launch.
And there's more to come, teases Pitchford. "We are doing things in Borderlands that we'll announce soon, that are good, and that I think people will be really excited about if you love the franchise," he said.
Borderlands 2 players will be able to download the Borderlands 2 Headhunter add-on, 'Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax',from April 15, Gearbox Software confirmed this week.

Activision has announced Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, the game leaked by Amazon last week. It's due out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS and PC.Rise of the Dark Spark is described as the "video game complement" to the upcoming Michael Bay movie Transformers: Age of Extinction, and fuses the movie universe Bay has established, with the Cybertron universe. There are over 40 playable characters from both.Plot wise, it's the follow-up to the movie and Activision's previous Transformers games, War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. According to the official blurb:"Rise of the Dark Spark jumps worlds and factions as it weaves the tale of the hunt for an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership - the Dark Spark. Players will be able to switch between the heroes of the noble Autobots and the nefarious Decepticons throughout the single-player campaign."Expect fast-paced running-and-gunning combat with traversal and vehicle action across open battlefields. On the multiplayer side, Escalation is a wave-based survival mode for up to four players. In it are upgradeable defense systems, enemies you'll recognise from Transformers lore and playable characters old and new. The new leveling system works across single-player and multiplayer to create one persistent character development path.Activision didn't mention which studio was developing the game, but according to a report by The Examiner, the home console version is being made by Edge of Reality, which worked on the Mass Effect Trilogy, the console ports of Dragon Age: Origins and the recent Loadout. The 3DS version is in the works at Way Forward, developer of the recent Ducktales remake, and is described as a strategy RPG. High Moon, Activision's previous go-to studio for Transformers, does not appear to be involved.

Despite Japan's rich gaming culture, the new consoles that've taken pride of place in your living room are still considered next-gen in the Land of the Rising Sun. While Microsoft still hasn't offered a firm date for the Xbox One's arrival, Sony'sPlayStation 4 makes its Japanese debut this coming weekend. Now, as reparations for the three-month delay, Sony and the snake-charmers (read: game devs) at Kojima Productions have partnered on the first limited edition PS4 console that'll launch exclusively in Japan on March 20th. This "Fox Edition" PS4 has been crafted to celebrate the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, a copy of which'll be bundled with the console for 46,980 yen (around $462) -- the regular console will retail for 41,979 yen (around $413) sans game, since you asked. Unfortunately, this first limited run PS4 is less impressive re-skinning effort, and more, well, boring emblem.

Publishing giant Take-Two has told MCV it has no plans to increase the number of Grand Theft Auto games it releases.
The firm launched GTA V last year, which instantly became the fastest selling game in UK history.
But Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says it is important not to over-saturate the market to ensure GTA becomes a permanent franchise. He told MCV that thanks to titles like GTA Online, the publisher doesn’t need to release new versions in order to generate money from the IP.
“It is great that consumers anticipate our titles, like they anticipate the next James Bond film. Our goal is to create permanent franchises,” he said.
“A few years ago, we’d launch a title, it would be sold physically, then we would sell catalogue versions of it. Today we launch a title, and often – if not always – put out DLC. We’ve talked about recurrent consumer spending, where we have offerings where fans can engage and spend money on an on-going basis.
“With GTA V, we have sold 32.5m units in to date, which is extraordinary. 70 per cent of people that have played GTA V while online have played GTA Online, which is a free-to-play experience. And recurrent consumer spending related to GTA Online represented nearly half of our digitally delivered revenue in the quarter. So people are voting that they want to stay engaged and they are voting with their wallets.”

Today marks the standalone debut of Freedom Cry, a tale set adjacent to the events of Assassin's Creed 4, and starring Edward Kenway's first mate, Adewale.
Freedom Cry sees Adewale shipwrecked on Haiti, without supplies or a ship full of surly pirates backing his every murderous action. Instead, Adewale must form his own crew while aiding the local slave population in their fight against oppression at the hands of wealthy European landowners. As you'd expect from an Assassin's Creed entry, Adewale spends most of Freedom Cry avoiding a civilized discussion of human rights in the colonial era in favor of acrobatic assassinations and periodic brutal machete killings.
While the original incarnation of Freedom Cry required players to own a copy ofAssassin's Creed 4, this new version does not. Simply visit the PlayStation Network Store, hand over $15 and Adewale's quest is yours. A PC version ofFreedom Cry will feature the same price tag, though that game won't debut until February 25.

February 19th, 2014, 01:09 Posted By: wraggster
The Game Developers Conference has released the results of its second annual State of the Industry survey, highlighting trends toward self-publishing and PlayStation 4 platform development.
More than 2,600 developers responded to the survey following last year's GDC event, with twenty percent noting an intent to ship their next project for the PlayStation 4. Seventeen percent of surveyed developers foresee an Xbox One release for their next game, while four percent target the Wii U.
Smartphones and PC platforms continue to dominate developer focus, however. According to the GDC's survey, 51 percent of respondents want to make their next game for tablets and smartphones, while 52 percent will tackle PC and Mac platforms.
This year's survey also revealed a rise in self-publishing and self-funding among developers. 64 percent of surveyed developers reported that they are not partnering with a publisher on their current project, while 52 percent revealed that existing company funds provided financial backing. More developers have turned to Kickstarter since last year's survey, as 11 percent of respondents are crowdfunding their current projects, compared to last year's 4 percent.

When Thief debuts on February 25, the PlayStation 4 incarnation of the stealth-action game will feature graphics at 1080p resolution, while its Xbox One counterpart will offer 900p imagery.
This disparity was revealed by Square Enix in a recent chat with Eurogamer, though the publisher claims that the difference is not glaring. "You really need good eyes to see the difference," said Thief director Nicolas Cantin, before adding that the Xbox One game "is as good as the PS4 version." The big difference, Cantin claims, is found between the older generation of consoles and these newer machines. "We put more detail in, more special effects. But at the same time, we kept the same gameplay experience with the current-gen and the next-gen versions."
Thief is only the most recent example of a big release offering higher resolution graphics on the PlayStation 4. Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes willreportedly run at 1080p on PlayStation 4 and at 720p on Xbox One, while the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts received a launch day patch to bump its graphics up to 1080p.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f- that's a little f for Fita, er, Vita - is laying down its handheld beats on March 4 in North America, and March 12 in Europe. The Japanese rhythm game starring the world's most famous virtual pop idol/aqua-haired pop idol is priced at $30 on North America's PS Store.
While the game itself isn't cross-buy, Sega is at least making it so that any DLC purchased for the game's PS3 version will automatically unlock on its Vita sibling, and vice versa. The DLC packs, which include the Snow Miku 2013 set, and the Extra Songs and Extra Character Modules, will all be available when the game launches next month.

Order up! The next installment in the Wolfenstein series, The New Order, launches on May 20 in North America and on May 23 in Europe, publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced. Wolfenstein: The New Order is the first game from developer MachineGames, founded in 2009 by exiting members ofRiddick-dev Starbreeze.
Bethesda also revealed that pre-ordering The New Order will net players an invite to a beta for Doom, which a Bethesda representative tells Joystiq is "the next Doom game from id Software." Developer id Software first announced a new installment in the franchise, at the time titled Doom 4,in May 2008. Since then, id has muttered nary a word about the next game – save for today's news that, yes, it's still in development. Bethesda promises more information on the beta, which has not been dated, on its official site.
Wolfenstein: The New Order focuses on narrative, eschewing a multiplayer mode in favor of a story that revolves around an alt-history 1960s where the Nazi regime had been victorious in their monstrous World War 2 campaign.
The New Order will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC alongside Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

Infamous: Second Son is one of the first major PS4 exclusives to come to the console since it launched some three months ago, so it's kind of a big deal for Sony. That's why its Euro branch is chucking an Infamous sale at PSN users ahead of the game's launch next month.
If you're totally new to Sucker Punch's elemental open-world action series, but you do want in on the whole caboodle, then the Infamous Collection offers the best value. It includes all three Infa-games - that's Infamous, Infamous 2, and the vampiric standalone expansion Festival of Blood - and it's down by just under half to £15.38/18.89 euros/AU$28.05. If you'd prefer, the three games are all on sale individually, and there's a 10 percent discount on all the purchases for PS Plus members. Check out the full list of discounts on the PS Blog.
That trilogy of games features electric hero/anti-hero Cole McGrath, but Second Son introduces a new, smokier star in Delsin Rowe. As for whether the game is as smoking as its new protagonist, we'll find out when it hits PS4 in a month's time on March 21.

Italy-based indie studio MixedBag announced that an enhanced and extended version of its wildly colorful rail shooter Futuridium is coming soon to the PlayStation Vita.
Mixing elements from the arcade classic Zaxxon and Commodore 64 shooterUridium, Futuridium is a forward-scrolling shoot-'em-up in which players swoop across the surfaces of massive space dreadnoughts, destroying any obstacles they encounter. Players aim to destroy power cubes during each run through the trenches, eventually revealing the enemy vessel's life-sustaining power core.
Originally released as freeware for Windows and Mac, Futuridium will hit the Vita with a collection of new gameplay modes, new levels, and an overhauled audiovisual presentation. A release date has not been announced.

GT6 finds itself in an awkward middle ground, both of generation and genre, we said in our Gran Turismo 6 review.
Gran Turismo 6 wants to get you behind a wheel as quickly as possible. Once you’ve placed the disc in your PS3’s drive, all that stands between you and the open road is an intro and the name-entry fields. After this, you’ll find yourself parked in the pits at Brands Hatch, sitting in a Clio RS ’11. It’s an efficient opening, undoubtedly, and you’ll initially feel grateful to Polyphony for sparing you the ordeal of navigating another of its outdated UI designs before you’ve had a chance to sample the new driving physics.Heartened, you squeeze the right trigger and wait for the revs to spike. Nothing happens. You try again, but the 2.0L in-line four remains stubbornly unmoved. It’s X you should be pressing. Despite Polyphony’s keenness to be on trend with Gran Turismo 6’s menu-less startup, the studio apparently remains entirely unaware of many of the other genre innovations that have become standardised since 1997.Having located the archaic accelerator, it’s at least now possible to get out on the tarmac. But even after undoing a decade’s worth of conditioning and forcing yourself to ignore the triggers, the experience is still a neutered one. All of the driving aids are switched on and your hot hatch is inexplicably lumbered with an automatic gearbox.Despite Polyphony’s admirable sentiment, you’re now forced to spend a lap wishing it would end so that you can remap the controls to something more befitting of the 21st century and switch off all those patronising driving aids. Much of this could have been avoided by simply asking players if they are new to Gran Turismo – or even driving games – before the game starts, then automatically customising the default settings to suit.

A former winner of Sony’s Gran Turismo Academy competition has been signed up as a driver for a real-life race team.
The BBC reports that 22-year old Jann Mardenborough is joining Red Bull’s Arden Motorsport team to compete in the 2014 GP3 series – that’s just two notches below F1 in the global race circuit scene.
"I thought I was pretty good because I could beat my friends on my street, but it was the first time trial I ever entered,” he said of winning the 2011 GT Academy, which is an online competition that takes place within the Gran Turismo games.
"I just wanted to see how I stacked up against people across Europe but I didn't expect to win. No way I thought that.
"[In GP3] there's a lot more power, more downforce, and it's going to be more difficult to shine. But it's in the shop window on the same weekend as Formula 1, on the same tracks, and in front of all the right people.
"It's the top of motorsport and it's what I want to achieve. That would be amazing if it happened but I'm not trying to plan things out. I just want to live in the moment and go as hard as I can - see what happens after that."

Those without an Ouya will be happy to hear that Towerfall, one of the nascent console's best games, is headed to the PlayStation 4 in the enhanced form ofTowerfall Ascension on March 11.
The original version of Towerfall mates the pixel-heavy aesthetic so popular with indie game developers with frantic, four-player multiplayer combat. In lieu of guns and a series of corridors, players are each given archery equipment, then dropped into a 2D stage rife with platforms and pitfalls. Think of it as a cross between the frantic combat of the Super Smash Bros. games, and the exacting, retro platforming and chunky aesthetic of Spelunky.
Towerfall Ascension improves upon this basic template by adding 50 new Versus arenas, "a bunch of new variants" for the game's stages and a few new power-ups. Additionally, Ascension brings with it a new Quest Mode that allows two players to cooperatively battle waves of monsters spawned from portals. The gameplay here is similar to that seen in the game's core multiplayer modes, but as designer Matt Thorson notes, Quest Mode fleshes out Towerfallas a whole by adding "a bunch of new content to explore even when you don't have three friends around."
As of now there is no price point attached to Towerfall Ascension. That March 11 release date only applies to the United States, but Thorson claims that a European release "shouldn't be far behind."

Infamous Second Son, the PS4's next major platform exclusive, will require 24GBs of hard drive space for its mandatory installation.
The platform holder confirmed as much with a picture of the game's box art including its back-cover, which shows the HDD requirement.
A 24GB install places Infamous roughly in the range of the average PS4 game so far, with games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag(21.2GB) and DC Universe Online (22.7GB) requiring similar space. The largest of the PS4 launch games were NBA 2K14 (41.8GB), Killzone Shadow Fall (38.5GB) and Knack (35.6GB).
All disc-based PS4 games are required to be installed to the hard drive in their entirety for data transfer speed reasons, as is also the case with Xbox One.
PS4 allows users to play the earlier stages of games as they're being installed, with most titles being bootable within one minute of the disc being inserted into the console for the first time.
Second Son stars new protagonist Delsin Rowe, a 24-year-old Native American street artist who can absorb special abilities from others, including the ability to manipulate smoke and electricity.
Delsin is viewed as a bioterrorist by the DUP, a branch of government tasked with controlling those with superhuman abilities and hunted.
CVG recently went hands-on with the game and you can read our fullInfamous Second Son impressions here.
The Infamous Second Son release date is set for March 21.

2K Games has declined to confirm whether or not its BioShock game for Vita has been cancelled following confirmation of the closure of BioShock studio Irrational Games this week.
Irrational Games head Ken Levine made the announcement Tuesday, confirming plans to disband the developer and start a new outfit with just 15 staff, while handing the BioShock franchise to publisher 2K Games.
The announcement has sparked fears that this could be the final nail in the coffin for the BioShock Vita game, which has been a questionable prospect since its announcement almost three years ago.
A 2K Games rep has told CVG today that the firm has 'no update' on the status of the game - a project which Levine himself last year admitted was yet to begin development as he struggled to foster a deal between Sony and Irrational Games parent firm Take-Two.
Levine told prying fans in July 2013 that he was still "trying to make a match" or, more specifically, "trying to get the 2 companies to sign off" on the project - more than two years after its clearly premature announcement.
Outed during Sony's E3 press conference in June 2011, BioShock on Vita was to be "its own thing being built from the ground up". Nothing but the BioShock logo was shown.
Levine said in October 2011 that Irrational could "potentially" outsource development of BioShock Vita, but only if the studio can ensure it'll still hit the quality mark the series is known for.

UPDATE 20/02/2014: Medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance has ended its Kickstarter campaign with a healthy £1,106,016.That's enough to secure a dog companion in the game. Rejoice!ORIGINAL STORY 18/02/2014: No-fantasy RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance will definitely be a PS4 and Xbox One game as well as PC (Windows, Linux) and Mac, developer Warhorse confirmed.Until now a console release was an aspiration, for political reasons rather than technical."While we never doubted our technical ability to do it, we were not sure about the actual publishing and distribution. In the last console generation, it just wasn't possible to have a game on console without an official publisher," wrote Warhorse on Kickstarter."In this generation it's going to be different though. We had lot of discussion with both Microsoft and Sony in the past weeks and we are happy to announce that the game concept of Kingdom Come: Deliverance was approved by both Sony and Microsoft for the next-gen platforms (PS4 and Xbox One)."Both companies are very eager to work with independent developers now"
Warhorse
"Both companies are very eager to work with independent developers now and were really helpful in speeding up the whole process. We were provided with dev kits and will get cracking on the console version right away."In a Reddit Ask Me Anything, held before the update was posted to Kickstarter, Warhorse executive producer Martin Klima announced that, "We can confirm that the game will be - at least digitally - available on both PS4 and Xbox One (besides Windows, Linux, Mac)."The studio may be able to self-publish a boxed version of the game, it elaborated on Kickstarter, "or we may need to make a deal with another company to do it".Back on Reddit, Klima added: "We are aiming for simultaneous release across all platforms. We will know for sure when we get toward the end of the development. Even if the console version is delayed, it will be months, not years."Early access alpha and beta releases are planned on PC (and later Mac), but they're still not confirmed for console."The alpha version access is confirmed for Windows version only," the studio stated. "We are working with other platform holders to see if it could be made available there, but we cannot promise anything yet."The beta access will be available on Windows, Linux and Mac at least; it may also be available on consoles but we cannot confirm it yet."

Zombie Studios' procedurally generated first-person scare-fest Daylight launches on PC and PlayStation 4 on 8th April. It costs £11.99.One interesting new feature revealed today is the game's use of Twitch chat to let players cue in-game events. Say, for example, someone watching a Daylight stream types the word "meow" into the chat. This would cause the game to make a corresponding sound of a cat. "So yes. You can literally scare your friends now by watching the stream," publisher Atlus said. There are caveats. In Atlus' words:"They're all on timers, so you can't spam them. That would be ridiculous."And: "We're not going to tell you the list of words. You're going to have to find them through experimentation."Daylight uses RealD3D tech so it'll be fully 3D compatible out of the box. "Catching an overhead light flicker down an incredibly long corridor is one of the more chilling 3D applications... until you come across a spirit, that is," Atlus said. The game also supports the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.

Has it been a year already? On 20th February 2013, Sony held a press conference in New York to break the silence on its PlayStation 4 plans.
It marked a moment of truth for the company; a high-stakes gamble with Sony pouring investment into its console business in the hope that PlayStation could return to the glory days of PS One and PS2. Many, understandably, doubted whether it could be done.
Now, some twelve months later, the PS4 has already surpassed five million unit sales; a remarkable result, even moreso considering the system still hasn't launched across Asia.
But how close does the vision, laid out one year ago, match the final product? How many of Sony's initial PS4 promises have materialised? In the slideshow below, CVG looks through the key promises made during the PlayStation Meeting, and measures them up against the final product.

The fate of BioShock Vita can certainly be described as ‘uncertain’.
The game was announced in June 2011 at E3 but has been MIA ever since.
The first worrying noises began emerging in late 2012 when Ken Levine said that the SKU’s future was “in the hands of business people”. In early 2013 he added that it was “out of his hands”.
In August 2013 Levine said that he was still “very much engaged” in the game but that he couldn’t “personally greenlight the thing” himself.
Then of course earlier this week Irrational as we know it was killed, casting a shadow over the entire BioShock franchise.
Now 2K Games has told CVG that it can offer “no update” regarding the game’s status.
None of which means it definitely won’t happen, of course – Take-Two retains the rights to the IP and is free to farm it out to whatever dev is so chooses. However, with BioShock Infinite falling so short of expectations it’s fair to ask what appetite remains for the franchise throughout the publisher’s corridors.

February 21st, 2014, 00:49 Posted By: wraggster
One year ago today at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting in New York, the platform holder went public with its plans to release PS4 in time for holiday 2013. We saw the new DualShock 4 pad, next-gen games and a vision: Sony pitched the new hardware as the videogame console built by game developers and laser-targeted at players. And as part of that February showcase, Sony explained that planning for the new console began to formulate at a very high level within Sony’s Japan HQ just after PS3’s troubled launch.Only a small group of Sony execs were in on that plan right up until late 2012, when PlayStation UK’s managing director Fergal Gara became part of discussions around the new console. “The target was clearly to get out last year prior to Christmas, and that of course got communicated to the world in February,” he tells us. “It was still a little broad in February, in that the territories and pricepoint weren’t defined, but what’s really pleasing is that we managed to communicate our goals effectively.”At PlayStation Meeting, Sony showed that it had been listening, careful to get developers onside with an approachable, accessible console while pleasing players with a tight focus on games. Though some complained of not seeing the console itself, very few inside Sony had seen a PS4 by that point; understandably, it was considered a risk to go too public too early with other details, too. “So things like price, for example, there are a lot of variables that go into that,” continues Gara. “If you announce the price ten months ahead of your launch there could be some moving parts that make that uncomfortable when it comes to launch – it was better to do that at E3.”Press and player reaction afterwards was mostly positive, and tinged with a more than a little relief, as E3 2012 had left a vaguely unpleasant taste in the mouth. Rumours around Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles had reached a crescendo in the media, too – confirmation that 2013 would be the year we’d see a new PlayStation and Xbox was long overdue by that point.

Heads up, Bomberman fans: Bloober Team's PlayStation 4-exclusive competitive multiplayer game Basement Crawl has finally surfaced after a series of delays, and is set to arrive digitally via the PlayStation Network next week in North America and Europe.
Basement Crawl pushes the Bomberman formula to M-rated extremes, letting players messily exterminate their friends in four-player local and eight-player online multiplayer modes. The game also offers a single-player campaign that pits solo players against murderous AI-controlled psychopaths.
Basement Crawl will be available for $9.99 when it hits PSN in North America on February 25. A European release, priced at €9.99, will follow on February 26.

The second downloadable addition for PlayStation-exclusive 2D action gameMuramasa Rebirth has been unveiled, and instead of more samurai combat, players are thrust into the role of a lowly dirt farmer.
Entitled Genroku Legends – A Cause to Daikon For, the DLC casts players as Gonbe, a widowed farmer who grows weary of the local lord taxing his village to death. Instead of instituting democratic elections, Gonbe opts to solve things the old-fashioned way. Unfortunately for this assault, Gonbe isn't much of a trained warrior so the weapons he carries with him into battle are repurposed farm implements.
Genroku Legends - A Cause to Daikon For is slated for release on the North American PlayStation Network Store come February 25. A European release will follow the next day. Aksys has yet to announce a price point for this DLC offering.

At 10AM ET/7AM PT today, it will be midnight on February 22 in Japan, marking the launch of the PlayStation 4 in its home country. After three months of watching the rest of the world play a new console, for once Japan has had to wait to join the party. If you'd like to see the moment as it happens, you can tune in to Sony's official stream of its launch event.
The launch details: The base console is priced 39980 yen (around $390), and comes with a download voucher for Knack, one year's warranty, and a DualShock 4. Going by a Famitsu list, the launch line-up includes plenty of day 1 games across retail shelves and the PS Store - we've listed them below the break. One big name you won't find there is Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, but today also marks the worldwide launch of the first phase of its beta on PS4 - the game proper is due on April 11.

Console giant has 'deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it'
Sony is set to unveil its own virtual reality headset for the PS4 at GDC next month, according to a report.
An "inside source" has told TechRadar that he felt people would "definitely be impressed" with the tech, a potential rival to the Oculus Rift.
It is not clear however whether consumers would be able to use the headset for other devices, such as PC, or if it will only work with the PS4.
Sony has long been reported to be developing its own virtual reality headset, and is rumoured to have been close to revealing its plans on a number of occasions before. The source claimed however that the firm "has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it".
The Game Developers Conference 2014 will take place between March 17th and March 21st.

Sony has at long last launched the PS4 in its homeland of Japan.
The ¥39,980 (£234) machine officially arrives on February 22nd – which, as time buffs out there will realise, is in just a few moments (15:00GMT Feb 19th).
The three-month wait was an unprecedented delays for a PlayStation device in Japan, with Sony taking the decision to face off the competition from Xbox One in Microsoft key Western territories.
And it’s a decision that seems to be paying off.
The console arrives with a launch line-up including Yakuza: Ishin, Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creation, Strider, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Resogun, Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and NBA 2K14.
Famitsu has some pictures of folk waiting in line earlier today.
The question for Western fans, of course, is whether PSN will suffer any wobbles?
Xbox One is yet to receive a Japanese launch date.

PS4 will remain in short supply until around April, predicts Sony.
The new console has been a huge success for the platform holder. According to UK retailers, PS4 is the best-selling games machine this year so far, and since January has sold around double the number of units of its nearest competitor – Xbox One.
PlayStation UK and Ireland boss Fergal Gara admitted to MCV that the performance has defied the company’s expectations, but hopes retailers will have free-supply of the console before the summer.
“I can’t work it out precisely. But based on what I’ve seen so far, I think it is going to be tricky until around about April. You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April,” said Gara.
“That’s our best guess. It might be a little earlier than that, or it might be a little later. But we’ll get there.”
On the success of the console so far, he added: “PS4 pre-orders were obviously a strong indicator of what was going to happen, but they were so big that we were pinching ourselves and wondering if people were pre-ordering in more than one place, and if some of these pre-orders were real.
“We were getting numbers we never imagined, let alone seen before. But it proved to be real. How do I reconcile that? I think the world has changed since we launched PS3.
“The price differential between PS3 and PS4 is not nearly as a big as it was between PS2 and PS3. But you are also talking about a public that has become used to regular technology upgrades on reasonably expensive devices, likes tablets and smartphones. So there is a comfort level with upgrading that meant consumers were ready earlier and there was a pent-up demand that we couldn’t anticipate. It’s been a pleasant surprise.”

The Rocksmith 2014 DLC train keeps rollin' with five new Rise Against songs available for Ubisoft's guitar game. As always, the individual songs cost $2.99, while the 5-song pack will run $11.99. The songs chosen by Ubisoft to highlight the Chicago punk rock group are: "Prayer Of The Refugee," "Give It All," "Satellite," "Make It Stop (September's Children)" and "Swing Life Away."
"Swing Life Away" is a change from most of Rise Against's library, as well as most of Rocksmith 2014 in that it's recorded acoustically. So yeah. Take that to Trivial Pursuit night. You're welcome.

Naughty Dog seemingly won everyone over last year (including Joystiq and theDICE Awards) with The Last of Us, its tale of survival in a clicker-ridden world. Its ending felt fairly conclusive, but in a recent discussion (which you should not explore if you're wary of spoilers for the game or DLC) on Reddit, a fan asked what the odds are for a future chance to visit The Last of Us' world once more.
"If you're asking about a sequel ... right now I'd say it's 50/50," Creative Director Neil Druckmann responded.
If that's not enough to rile people up, Game Director Bruce Straley teased in the same thread that theteam is "working on the 3rd DLC drop for MP right now! ... and maybe something else ... we'll see." It's almost like they enjoy teasing fans!
Of course, if you missed your date with "Left Behind," the game's Valentines Day dose of narrative DLC, that's an immediate opportunity to spend more time with Ellie.

Online play for Gran Turismo 5 is set to expire in May, but the company has announced it's pulling the plug on the game's DLC early. On April 30, all Gran Turismo 5 DLC will vanish from the PlayStation Store.
In order to access Gran Turismo 5's "Racing Car Pack" and "Course Pack" after April 30, PS3 users will need to download and install a free supplemental piece of DLC called "Family Upgrade." Sony points out that, after online services have been terminated, some DLC can be re-downloaded through PSN even if local game data is erased from the hard drive – but not all of it.
Sony also announced Gran Turismo TV is shutting down on March 14. Gran Turismo TV is a video-on-demand service where users can access a variety of car-focused content, including pay-per-view videos.

Some thirty PS Vita development kits have been supplied to Abertay University in Dundee as part of a joint effort to give graduates more hands-on experience as well as strengthen Sony's bonds with the next generation of developers.
The new development kits, in addition to the PS3 and PS4 hardware already available at Abertay, have prompted the university to claim it now houses "Europe's largest teaching laboratory of Sony PlayStation consoles".
As part of the partnership between Sony and the university, every programming student at Abertay will be given access to the Vita and PS4 development technology.
"The next generation of PlayStation-savvy developers are now in education and Abertay University is at the forefront of bringing young and talented developers to our platform," said Maria Stukoff, PlayStation UK's head of academic development.
"It is these students who will influence the future of video games and we are delighted to work with Abertay University to make this a PlayStation training hub."
Abertay is widely known within the UK industry as a leading education centre for aspiring games developers. Undergraduates in their third year will take part in a major project to build a game.
Two student teams are currently building software for PS Vita with the hope that their prototypes could possibly lead to a commercial game release. One project is a new edition of Velocity, a game series created by Brighton studio FuturLab, while the other will be an entirely new IP.
FuturLab co-founders James Marsden and Kirsty Rigden are advising both teams during their development.
"We think this initiative is fantastic. It's great for us because we're able to effectively triple our workforce developing new prototypes," said FuturLab co-founder James Marsden.
"It's great for students because they get valuable experience working as a project team all the way from concept development and pitching, through to a playable demo suitable for pitching to a publisher."

Sony's PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset will finally be unveiled next month at GDC 2014, a new report suggests.Sony's £1000 HMZ-T2 personal 3D viewer.
TechRadar reports that the anticipated VR device will be formally announced at the San Francisco conference next month, which begins 17th March.Like the Oculus Rift headset, the virtual reality visor will wrap a pair of screens onto the wearer's head. But, unlike Oculus, Sony is expected to have perfected the technology to a degree that multiple versions of the hardware won't need to be released."Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it," a source said. "People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built."Eurogamer broke news of the headset last September, when we learnt that it had originally been destined for a reveal at Gamescom 2013.Its unveiling there was pulled, and its appearance delayed into 2014 - a moment that now sounds on the horizon. When quizzed about the device last year, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida simply said: "We don't talk about that."

A hacker named katsu recently released a method for dumping Vita games. As a developer, I am completely against piracy, but as a reverse engineer I can’t shy away from taking apart perfectly working devices. However, most pictures I see of Vita game carts taken apart show the game cart casing damaged beyond repair or completely destroyed. I managed to take apart a game cart and put it together with no obvious signs of damage, and I thought I would share my (simple) method here.
If you take a look at the top right or left corner of the game cart, you can see a line of where the two halves of the plastic was glued together. Locate the upper left corner and, with a sharp knife, push the blade into the line on the corner until you have a small dent. Then, move the knife downwards and wiggle the knife until you loosen the glue for the entire left side of the cart. Then keep moving the knife down and when you hit the bottom of the cart, turn and lose about half the bottom edge of the cart. Now you can use your fingers to spread the two halves apart (but be careful not to use too much force and tear the glue from the other two edges), and you can either shake the memory chip out or use a pair of tweezers.
If you were to follow katsu’s pinout, you need to solder to the copper pads. A trick for doing so is to first flux up the points and then melt a pea-sized blob of solder in middle of all the points. Then take your iron and spread the blob around until all the pads are soldered up. Then just make the the remaining blob is not on top of any copper and you can easily remove it.

Nobody likes useless updates for their consoles, but the latest Vita firmware seems to be taking its sweet time. Whenever we release a Vita hack here at wololo.net, one of the fears is that the exploit will be patched within days by Sony. And in general, they are pretty fast when it comes to that. January 2013 was the month Sony patched Total_Noob’s eCFW for firmwares 1.xx and 2.0x.
Strangely enough, This doesn’t seem to be happening this year. With TN-V out publicly for 2 months, and 5 game exploits announced so far, we still have to see a new firmware from Sony that would patch the Kernel exploit by Total_Noob.
Of course, PSP exploits are not Sony’s priority when it comes to Vita firmware updates, but they have shown they do care quite a lot about making sure exploits are patched as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, we haven’t seen a Vita Firmware update since firmware 3.01, which was released on December 5, more than 2 months ago. In the history of the Vita, the only time it took longer than that for a Firmware update was between versions 2.12 and 2.60.
Firmware 2.60 was released about 3 months after firmware 2.12, and contained quite a good amount of new features.
Other than this 3 month gap between 2.12 and 2.60, this is the longest Vita users have had to wait for a new firmware since the console was released in 2011.
Is the next Vita firmware going to be a huge update? Are Sony waiting for the PS4 release in Japan, in a week? Are they going to patch many bugs, improve some existing features? Is the vita TV going to get some love? Are new exciting features coming? Or is Sony satisfied with the Vita firmware and don’t think a new update is required for the foreseeable future?
What would you like to see in a new vita firmware update?

We were going to release 4.53 but got caught up actually fixing all the cobra patches "Correctly" along with a host of other features. Then just when things were looking like they were finished 4.55 was released...So now everything has to be re-patched re-tested and some things need to be tweaked again, then it will be time for a release, but we are not going to release something half assed. Remember that Rebug innovates and everyone making CFW these days uses Rebug patches not the other way around... So once we have the features we want in there and its working to perfection, only then will there be a release. Sorry that I can not give you all an ETA on a release date.

The next Assassin's Creed won't take place in feudal Japan, but it will occur in Jade Raymond's favorite historical era.
Raymond, Ubisoft Toronto studio head and Assassin's Creed series producer, gave just a morsel of information about where the historical fiction franchise will take fans next in an interview with AdWeek. She did not specify which historical era is her favorite.
Interstitial scenes from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag showed the inner workings of Abstergo Entertainment, an in-universe developer and Ubisoft self-parody. Perceptive fans could find a list of potential settings for future Abstergo titles, including samurai-era Japan.
"When we're building a franchise, we're thinking of a whole universe and how we're developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV," Raymond said. "If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it's never going to be quite as genius."
The Assassin's Creed franchise has spanned the Crusades-era Middle East, Renaissance Italy, the American Revolution, the golden age of Caribbean piracy, and beyond. The series' cryptic iconography and clues have led fans to speculate about a Japanese setting ever since the original game.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag shipped about 10 million copies in 2014, two million short of Assassin's Creed III. Its cat-and-mouse multiplayer was bolstered last week with the 'Guild of Rogues' DLC pack.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has released a new Infamous Second Son TV spot.
Sucker Punch's first PS4 game is set in an open-world Seattle and stars new series protagonist Delsin Rowe, a 24-year-old Native American street artist who can control smoke.
He's viewed as a bioterrorist by the Department of Unified Protection, a branch of government tasked with hunting down those with superhuman abilities.
Rowe can unleash smoke projectiles and fireballs. He can also execute a smoke-dash move and confuse enemies using a smoke cloud. He replenishes smoke by absorbing it from chimneys and destroyed cars.

22cans boss 'has a plan' for next-gen console version, thinks Steam controller is 'interesting'
Peter Molyneux has told Develop that a PlayStation Vita version of his new title Godus could be in the cards.
Speaking to Develop at this month's Casual Connect, the 22cans founder and development legend said that he hopes to bring Godus to as many consumers – and, by extension, platforms – as possible.
The title, which has been designed to "re-invent the god game genre" according to Molyneux, is currently in development for PC, smartphones and tablets – but its creator says it could come to any platform if the control scheme fits well.
"Godus is all about touching your world through our stroking mechanic," he told Develop. "Curiosity was all about tapping, and in Godus we have stroking, done via the touch screen. We get away with that on PC with the mouse, event though it's not as nice, but it would be very hard to do for console.
"I think the Vita is a possibility because of both the front and rear touch inputs. Wii U is a possibility too, if you tweak that very clumsy device, but I find Wii U very awkward. I think the Steam Box controller with those dual touch pads is very interesting."
That's not to say he has given up with the idea of bringing his latest title to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
"We've got a plan to do Godus on consoles, because if we do it well, I'd love to have the core gamers from the console market in the mix of the millions of people playing in this world," he said.
"One of my obsessions is getting casual people to play with core people, and Godus is designed for that. It's designed to satisfy the core gamer as well as the casual gamer.
"There are virtually no games that I can play with my family because my son wants to play a core game, my wife wouldn't know what to do with a core game and I kind of stand in the middle."
Check back for our full interview with Molyneux later this week.

February 25th, 2014, 00:05 Posted By: wraggster
The first three customers to buy a PS4 without a preorder, at Akihabara’s Yodobashi Camera store.
Three months after its release in North America and Europe, PlayStation 4 is finally available in Japan. On Saturday February 22 it was greeted across the nation by the after-effects of the heaviest snowfall in decades; while stores in the major cities were unaffected, blocked roads in some parts of Japan meant that Amazon was unable to fulfill its preorders on time, emailing customers to inform them that their consoles would not arrive on launch day.You might think this would only make for heavier demand at bricks-and-mortar stores. But at close of business Sunday, after two full days, most of the major game and electronics stores we contacted in Tokyo and Osaka said they had had plenty of stock still available – a far cry from the scenes in Europe, where PS4 consoles are still scarce months later. The day before the February 22 launch, major retailers such as Sofmap and Yodobashi Camera were still accepting preorders, and those who queued through the night in the bitter cold found that other customers without preorders could easily stroll up to the counter and buy one of the two available models (with or without camera). The first customer to walk away with a preordered PS4 at Akihabara’s Yodobashi Camera.
Whether this reflects a lack of interest or a comfortable surplus of stock will become clear when the first sales figures are published by Media Create. A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia declined to give sales figures when contacted, instead simply quoting PS4′s global sales of 5.3 million units, though this figure excludes Japan. The official midnight launch was held on Friday night at the Sony Building in Ginza. Some gamers queued through Thursday night to be among the lucky 100 to receive an invitation to the countdown event, held from 10:30pm until midnight, when one customer was picked by lotto to receive the console he had paid for that morning. The event was broadcast live on Ustream and Niconico and boasted a certain amount of star power, with guests including Hideo Kojima, Yakuza series producer Toshiro Nagoshi and Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida, as well as the cast of TV show GameCenter CX and other local celebrities. Video messages included Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono making an apology for the delayed release of Deep Down, as well as words from Sony-signed J-pop stars such as Scandal and Fujifabric. A round of applause greeted Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida as he entered the lobby before the event.Japanese media trained their cameras and microphones on the waiting invitees, some of whom turned up in cosplay that rivalled that of the professional cosplayers parading in front of a giant PS4 box outside. One punter came as a Move controller, perhaps a plea for compatible PS4 games, and had trouble sitting down, while another, Ryo Watanabe, was decked out in military gear. Watanabe would later win the lotto to become the first customer to buy a Japanese PS4.

The WWE Network app has arrived on PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360 consoles, the professional wrestling company has announced.
The subscription-based service, revealed back in January, packs access to over a thousand hours of on-demand video content across WWE's lifetime. Along with classic WWE/WWF match-ups, archives include WCW and ECW events as well.
The app also launched on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and Roku today. A subscription runs $9.99 a month, regardless of price, and note that there's a six-month minimum commitment to take into consideration.
WWE's on-demand app is expected to land on Xbox One sometime in the summer.

Most birthday celebrations involve a cake, paper hats and some light tomfoolery, but celebrating the life anniversary of an inanimate object is understandably a little less rowdy. The PS Vita enters its third year of existence by slashing prices on a bunch of games, starting tomorrow.
The PS Vita Anniversary sale, which runs through March 3, makes it a good week to be a PS Vita owner. PS Plus subscribers can grab games for up to 75 percent off, while everyone else can enjoy deals of up to half-off. Cheap downloads for Hotline Miami, Escape Plan, Flower, Killzone Mercenary and many more are available. If you're a PS Plus member, you can grabMachinarium for a paltry $1.75.
A supplemental Back to 2013 sale provides further temptations tomorrow with discounts on Dragon's Crown, Guacamelee, Spelunky, Super Motherload andInjustice: Gods Among Us. Many of the PS Vita games are cross-buy enabled, and PS3 users can enjoy discounts on Diablo 3, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Rayman Legends, Terraria and more.
Both promotions will be active after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow. There's quite a lot to pore over, so we'd suggest taking a second to review your checkbook first. Checkbooks are still a thing, right?

It's been almost two whole months since we bid farewell to 2013, but it's so hard to let go of the good times. Sony takes a nostalgic look back at the year we left behind with an upcoming round of PlayStation Network price drops on some of 2013's notable digital releases.
Sony's Back to 2013 Sale has a lot to offer for RPG fans, with Tales of Xilliaavailable for $19.99 ($14.99 for Plus members), Dragon's Crown up for $24.99 ($17.49 for Plus), and Ni no Kuni dropped to $9.99 ($6.99 for Plus) -- its lowest digital price to date. Atlus' classic PSone RPG Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is also on sale this week for $4.99, or $3.49 for Plus subscribers.
Other noteworthy drops include Diablo 3 for $39.99 ($34.99 Plus), Rayman Legends for $41.99 ($29.39 Plus), and WWE 2K14 for $39.99 ($29.99 Plus). Sale prices start tomorrow, and last through next Monday.

MachineGames talks about Wolfenstein: The New Orderbeing a story-driven, single-player adventure, and it's true there's some finesse and direction to the cutscenes, a suggestion of secondary characters with personality and backstory. Much the same can be said of Die Hard, though, and it's no War and Peace. That's not to dismiss the storytelling in The New Order, but based on what I see in its first two hours, it mostly sticks to the action movie spirit of tearing up Nazis, saving the day, getting the girl, and blowing shit up.
The return of William "BJ" Blazkowicz provides a gruff-voiced American hero with McClane-like hardened features and self-whispered one-liners, while Gruber is all but resurrected in the campy glares and maniacal laughs of the game's arch-villains. More important than that, I've got waves and waves of "Nazi scum" to kill, to use the blunt words of Blazkowicz, and machine guns in each hand. A story-driven romp The New Order may be, but a romp is still a romp. That said, the game shows a hand for ripping up preconceptions.

PPSSPP Git (2014/02/24) is compiled. PPSSPP is a fast and portable PSP emulator for Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux, written in C++.
PPSSPP Git Changelog:

Fixes crash in mhp3 hot springs after some missions
* Merge pull request #5551 from unknownbrackets/sas-minor
Revert resampling changes

This reverts commit 1efcebb1210e6edb9691205b42c18c6a8fd0bd3a.
* Revert "Optimize mixing samples at common pitches."
This reverts commit dd434cd7c5dd35bc8b82b4a2e00f2787300c61e9.
Conflicts:
Core/HW/SasAudio.cpp
* Revert "Actually use the resample buffer."
This reverts commit dc5d17971c9821afc7d44829235c799788ef724e.
* Revert "Reset resample hist on keyon, round up read."
This reverts commit 3edebbfba9d13e26e736107cb8fb8ad4efb65a8d.
* Merge pull request #5552 from unknownbrackets/font
Improve error codes in sceFont
* Allow open fonts in a few more calls.
It turns out if you open the same internal font twice, they both work
until you close both of them (it's reference counted, but the font handles
are different.)
Anyway, these funcs seem to crash on a PSP when used with a non-open font
so there's not a ton of risk here.
* Oops, still had an unaligned stack in some thunks.
* Merge pull request #5546 from chinhodado/fixes
some minor fixes and changes

PCSX2 SVN r5914 is compiled. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.

"Kept you waiting, huh?" whispered Konami, before dropping a collection of news bombs this morning. For starters, the company announced a price cut to the physical PS4 and Xbox One versions of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. Rather than costing $40, the two consoles' retail versions are now priced at $30. The company says it wants to "provide as many people as possible an opportunity" to play the game - awwwwwwww.
Other versions of Ground Zeroes remain at the same price; you can check out the game's still highly-convoluted pricing structure here. Incidentally, the price cut is matched in the UK, where PS4 and Xbox One retail versions will set Brits back £30.
In addition, Konami confirmed the previously speculated inclusion of Phantom Pain DLC with early purchases of Ground Zeroes. The codes, which include additional staff to utilize in Big Boss' Mother Base headquarters, which apparently plays a "central role" in The Phantom Pain, are available in the first batch of retail copies and for an undisclosed "limited" amount of time with download versions. In case you've been living under a rock or with bandages wrapped around your ears, MGS5: Ground Zeroes is being billed as the prologue chapter to MGS5: The Phantom Pain.
If you'd rather wait before you Snake, the good news is all copies of Ground Zeroes have some integration with the Mother Base in The Phantom Pain. The POWs and VIPs you rescue in the prologue will carry over to the follow-up, as will character skins you unlock.
Finally, it wouldn't be Metal Gear without some peripheral capers, and if you so choose you can download a free second-screen "iDroid" app on iOS and Android to use with the game. The app, which is integrated into SmartGlass for Xbox, lets you view maps, play cassettes you discover, and summon air support in the game ... Oh, the game! Yes, the small matter of Ground Zeroes itself arrives on March 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Seven scenes have been removed from the console versions of South Park: The Stick of Truth in the EMEA region, which covers the not so small continents and areas of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. That's in addition to the game'scensorship in Australia, where the often prominent Classification Board deemed certain scenes had to be modified if the Obsidian RPG was to be rated for sale.
As BT.com spotted, Ubisoft sent out a document to publications this week that confirmed 7 scenes, each around 20 seconds long, have been removed from the EMEA console versions of The Stick of Truth. As you can imagine given the often controversial nature of the TV show the game is based on, the scenes areNSFW reading, and some readers may be sensitive to their descriptions. We've included those descriptions below the break.

The PlayStation 4 sold 322,083 units across its opening weekend in Japan, according to numbers published this morning by Famitsu. The console hit the country's retail shelves last week, some three months after launching across North America and Europe.
The PS4's launch in Japan only marginally exceeds the Wii U's - Nintendo's system achieved 308,570 sales in its first two days - but it's a huge step up from the corresponding 88,400 sales of the PS3 launch. Siliconera notes that, according to Famitsu's archives, the PS2 shifted a whopping 630,552 systems when it launched in Japan just under 14 years ago.
Last week, Sony announced it's sold more than 5.3 million PS4 systems since the Western launch in November 2013, meaning the console's already surpassed fiscal goals. We'll hear more about how Japan factors into the total sales in the coming months, not least in May when the company's expected to announce its financial results for the fiscal year.

Lucas Pope, creator of border-crossing management game Papers, Please, has expressed interest in a PS Vita port, but is unsure if he should handle the port himself or hand it over to a third-party studio.
"Up until now, I've been the only guy who's ever touched the source code or anything related to the game. And that's just kind of a control issue," Pope toldVG247. "For a Vita version, I'm 50 percent I want to do it myself and 50 percent I should just hand it off to somebody who knows what they're doing and can take it over for me." Last year, Sony formed a third-party production divisionwhose chief responsibility is facilitating ports.
"I do want to do a Vita version, but the thing is there's a lot of kind of interesting UI challenges to make it work well on Vita: much smaller screen, much smaller hit targets. So that kind of stuff interests me to try to figure out how to make it work well on Vita," Pope said. "So that's the part of me that wants to be really involved in the port, but the other part is like, 'I got to do something else, I got to move onto something else' so I haven't really decided what to do there."
In Papers, Please, players assume the role of an immigration worker checking passports at a border checkpoint for the fictional communist country of Arstotzka. Papers, Please made its debut last year on PC and Mac; a Linux port launched earlier this month.

Despite its eye-catching focus on procreation, the upcoming Conception 2: Children of the Seven Stars is a relatively straightforward roleplaying game. For proof, you need look no further than this latest batch of screenshots issued by publisher Atlus.
The gallery below contains eight images, each depicting one of the game's 30 character classes. The Archer is typical roleplaying game fare, but Conception 2also introduces more unique classes. The Diva uses music to aid friends and debuff enemies while also reviving the dead, while the Gun Saint is essentially a high-fantasy paladin, only with a big gun in lieu of a sword.
Conception 2 is slated to debut on the Vita and 3DS handhelds on April 15. More details on the game and its characters can be found at the Conception 2website.

Hollywood legend Harold Ramis passed away this week and the few folks left at Criterion Games are going full stream by honoring him with a free car pack inBurnout Paradise.
The "Legendary Cars" pack features homages of iconic whips from Knight Rider, The Dukes of Hazzard, Back to the Future and, of course, Ghostbusters. These aren't exact replicas of the cars in question, but rather eerily-close copies. The car pack is available as a free download on both Xbox 360 and PS3 today.
Burnout Paradise, the last entry in Criterion's lauded arcade-inspired racing series, takes place in Paradise City and gives racers free rein of an open-world metropolis. Initially, the game only featured cars, but Criterion's post-launch diligence introduced motorcycles and a completely new island to explore.

Housemarque is bringing the twin-stick zombie massacre of Dead Nation to the PS4, according to Sony Computer Entertainment Asia. The Hong Kong PlayStation Blog lists the top-down shooter in a new Apocalypse Edition for the PS4, and says it'll be part of March's PlayStation Plus' freebies for the region.
Housemarque announced an outsourced Vita port of the PS3 game last year, but this is the first word of it coming to the PS4. Interestingly, Korea's classification board published new Dead Nation ratings today for PS4 and Vita, suggesting the two versions could be released side-by-side. We've reached out to Housemarque to find out what's up.
The PS4 launch saw the Finnish studio bring its intense brand of twin-stick action to the new console with Resogun - a PS Plus game itself - but another offering wouldn't hurt. Well, it would hurt the zombies, but they deserve it. Back in 2010, former Joystiq-er Andrew Yoon shelled out a perfect five stars toDead Nation, lauding its "suffocatingly dense" swarms of undead and its strategically sound local and online co-op.

SCEE's Agostino Simonetta discusses the console's networking and sharing capabilities
During the PlayStation Open Day Sony discussed some interesting PS4 features developers can take advantage of when it comes to the hardware's networking and streaming capabilities.
SCEE's Agostino Simonetta said developers are able to customise their games' Live Areas, the dedicated game pages on the PS4 interface. Tiles on these Live Areas are HTML5 and JavaScript-based, meaning developers can quickly and easily change what each one displays, whether it's a video or a link to the store.
Developers can also use these to advertise new DLC, cross-promote other titles they have released and also post the latest news from their website or blog, and link back to the browser.
Simonetta also explained that developers are able to write their own mini apps in JavaScript or HTML5 and enter them into a tile, as well as display stats from the game such as the number headshots or the amount of times a specific fighting move has been used.
"Maybe your game has new DLC, or maybe you want to post the latest news from the community website or blog. Or maybe you run a server and run challenges and you want to surface those, or maybe it's a video. You can change those on a daily basis [without consulting Sony]," he said.
"If you have your own servers, you can have those talk to the PlayStation server. If you're tracking data, you can surface those stats on the boxes."
Streaming content
With game broadcasting becoming increasingly popular thanks to platforms like Twitch, Sony has integrated streaming into the Ps4, and to great success.
As has previously been announced, Simonetta said developers can use streaming to allow spectators to interact with the game being broadcast. He offered examples such as giving the player ammunition or a health pack during gameplay.
Developers can also take advantage of streaming in other ways, and can stream a title straight from their dev kit. Simonetta said this could be an interesting way to gain publicity for a new title while it's still in development.
Simonetta also explained that developers can encourage users to share videos and images when not streaming by sending a message if they break a record in the game, such as the fastest laptime in the world on a racing title.
"This is another way to help you get your title discovered without having to invest anything," said Simonetta.

The PS4 version of free-to-play FPS Blacklight Retribution is getting a new game mode, two new multiplayer maps and private servers today, February 27.
As detailed by developer Zombie Studios, the update going live today is the first content expansion for the PS4 game, and will introduce a new 'Onslaught mode', which pits four players against increasingly difficult waves of infected enemies.
Co-operation and strategy is key. "If you bank too heavily on fortifying one area, you might find yourself overrun. But if you remain too light and mobile, you may not have the heavy firepower you need to punch through what comes next," says the developer.
Additionally, two new maps, 'Decay' and 'Metro', will be added. According to Zombie, "Metro is set in an abandoned subway station long since taken over by squatters. Players will face fierce firefights in the narrow corridors."
It goes on to describe, "Decay is a slum fortress set deep in the worst and most rundown area of the city. Threats will come from above and below in this rat warren. Teams will need to stay sharp as they move together and watch the roof tops and ruined buildings."
New private match options will also allow you to set up multiplayer matches with friends without public players being able to join.
Smaller additions in the patch include matchmaking tweaks which "make it easy for you to find a fun game of Blacklight to play", host migration improvements, improved frame rates, faster load speeds "and a smoother experience overall".

Grand Theft Auto Online will give players The Business Update on March 4.
Rockstar revealed the next free content update for Grand Theft Auto 5and its multiplayer counterpart on Thursday.
The Business Update focuses on status symbols for Los Santos' successful entrepreneurs: three new sports cars and a Vestra personal aircraft, a Heavy Pistol and Special Carbine, and new clothes, hairstyles, tattoos, and masks.
The cars and weapons will be automatically added to the garage's and arsenals of GTA 5's single-player mode, while online characters will have to spend their in-game cash to purchase them individually.
Rockstar promised more details are soon to come for The Business Update's upcoming Event Weekend, as well as future updates for online heists and new side missions for story mode.
After this weekend the items added in the Valentine's Day Massacre Special will be off the market, meaning players who want the mobster-themed weapons, vehicles, and clothes will be otherwise out of luck after midnight PST on Sunday.
Rockstar is the target of a lawsuit from Karen Gravano of VH1's Mob Wives, who claims her likeness and story was used without her permission for a random-encounter character in GTA 5's story mode.

North American PlayStation Plus subscribers will find Tomb Raider and several other titles added to their Instant Game Collections next month.
Sony outlined the free titles which will join its subscriber offerings in March in a PlayStation Blog post on Thursday.
Note that the Tomb Raider in question is the original version for PS3 and not Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, which brought upgraded graphics to PS4 and Xbox One in January.
Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will bolster PS4's growing collection with an update of Housemarque's 2010 PSN twin-stick shooter. Resogun, another Housemarque shooter, was one of the first free games offered with the system.
Two PS3/PS Vita cross-buy games will also join the collection: narrative puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone and side-scrolling survival horror game Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut. Both are cross-save compatible, meaning players with both systems can upload their saved games to the cloud and keep playing on the other version.
Finally, Vita's Instant Game Collection will grow with two system exclusives: tactical shooter Unit 13 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
Sony said in early February that half of all PS4 owners are subscribed to PS Plus.

Man, how long has it been since you've thought about Cel Damage? Released as a launch title for the original Xbox in 2001, Cel Damage didn't quite rank in the same league as Halo or Project Gotham, and likely resides in the hazy regions of your brain devoted to remembering games like Mad Dash Racingand Fuzion Frenzy.
Toronto-based developer Finish Line Games bets that a number of players have fond memories of trading blows in the classic car-combat game in betweenHalo matches, announcing that Cel Damage HD is due for release on the PlayStation 4, PS3, and PS Vita.
Cel Damage HD brings its cartoonish brand of cel-shaded, Twisted Metal-like vehicular mayhem to Sony's current crop of consoles with 13 levels and six playable characters. Online multiplayer hasn't been confirmed, but is a likely addition. Cel Damage HD will be available as a Cross-Buy release when it hits the PlayStation Network this spring.
