Today, Sony launched the PS4 Remote Play app for iPhone and iPad, which will allow users to access and play games on their PS4 from their mobile device.
With the app downloaded, users can pair their PS4 with it and then open the home screen, launch and play games, connect to voice chats, and send messages. A PSN account is required, and the device must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
For navigation, PS4 controller buttons are overlaid onto the mobile screen. DualShock 4 controllers are not compatible with the app for now, though some third-party controllers may work.
In the past, Sony has allowed remote play on the Vita, Windows, and Mac. Though there has been no Remote Play app announced for Android just yet, an Xperia phone version of the app launched in 2014 indicates that one may be possible in the future.

The latest firmware update for the PlayStation 4 has been released. Version 6.50 adds a handful of new features, such as the ability to stream 720p videos to NicoNico, support for the newly released iOS PS4 remote play app, and the ability to swap the circle and x button for menu input, which is oddly limited by region. The firmware download size is 442MB.
In regards to the iOS Remote Play feature, players are limited in the fact that they cannot connect a DualShock 4 to their phones, and must either use onscreen input, or a third party controller.
Main Features in Version 6.50 Update
•You can now enjoy Remote Play on iOS devices. You can use (PS4 Remote Play) to connect your PS4 system from devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Other Features
•You can now choose 720p when you broadcast using Niconico Live. This service is available only in certain countries and regions.
•You can now change the button assignment to perform “Enter” operations from the Circle button to the X button. Select (Settings) > [System], and then select the checkbox for [Use X Button for Enter]. This option is available only for specific countries and regions.

Hacker SpecterDev, known for his involvement with the PS4 scene, in particular the first public release of the 5.05 kernel exploit, has released a Webkit exploit for PS4 6.20 owners.
The Exploit has been patched with Firmware 6.50, which is why the dev chose to release this.
If you are on firmware 6.20 or below, you can give this a try and play with it. If you are on firmware 5.05 or below, of course, stay put since you can actually run a full PS4 Jailbreak.
Indeed, a webkit exploit is “only” a usermode exploit which will not give you access to the kind of functionality you would typically expect from a “Jailbreak”, or kernel exploit. Nevertheless, it gives you an entry point into unsigned code execution, which is cool to play with, or for developers to dig into kernel exploits.
Details on the vulnerability itself can be found in the Readme of the exploit. Important notes from the readme:
- This vulnerability was patched in 6.50 firmware!
- This only gives you code execution in userland. This is not a jailbreak nor a kernel exploit, it is only the first half.
- This exploit targets firmware 6.20. It should work on lower firmwares however the gadgets will need to be ported, and the p.launchchain() method for code execution may need to be swapped out.
- In my tests the exploit as-is is pretty stable, but it can become less stable if you add a lot of objects and such into the exploit. This is part of the reason why syscalls.js contains only a small number of system calls.
You will need to download the files from the developer’s github and host them on a server somewhere, this can be done on your local computer or with a tiny tool such as an ESP8266 (details here)

The PSVita didn’t get a native port of a Grand Theft Auto game which, in my opinion, is very unfortunate as I believe that a Vita port could’ve given a much better gaming experience than GTA’s ports on iOS/Android. Apparently, more people think the same and now, TheFlow is doing the work of the gods by creating a NATIVE RESOLUTION patch for the PSP’s Grand Theft Auto series when run on the PSVita!
As its title suggests, this patch makes the PSP’s Grand Theft Auto games (GTA Vice City Stories and GTA Liberty City Stories) render at native resolution on the PSVita (960×544).
This allows for a sharper and much-nicer looking image without the blurriness that upscaling a 480×272 (PSP’s native resolution) image brings about. Work on this patch started a short while ago with TheFlow first mentioning it publicly on March 1st and yesterday, he made another Reddit thread demonstrating his progress. As of right now, the following is known about the patch:
- This patch, which will run inside Adrenaline, will allow the PSP’s GTA games to run at 960×544 (native resolution of the Vita; double that of the PSP) on the PSVita and PSTV
- TheFlow says that performance will not be greatly affected as he only mentioned a small bit of slowdown that doesn’t affect playbility
- As the PSP only has 2MB Video RAM, the games will run at a reduced colour space of 16-bits rather than 32-bits.
- However, this will not really affect the picture’s quality as demonstrated in the comparison screenshots that TheFlow provided (below)
- Currently, the plugin isn’t available for download
- These type of patches are game-specific so don’t expect the ability to render all games at a higher resolution similar to what PPSSPP does

If you’ve been following r/vitahacks, then you’ve probably heard of Super Mario Vita which is a fan-made Super Mario game by Fanta Hourglass. News about this homebrew game emerged around 2 months ago, in early January, when its developer published a showing some gameplay in a PSVita Slim overlay and started posting regular updates about it on Twitter. Obviously, this kindled a fair amount of interest but many people warned Fanta Hourglass to stay quiet about his work as Nintendo has shut down fan-made games using its intellectual property, such as AM2R, in the past.
Now, a demo of this somewhat anticipated Super Mario 64-esque homebrew has been released and from a short playing session, I observed the following:
- You must overclock your PSVita’s CPU to 444MHz to get playable speeds with some stuttering
- To do this, you can use a plugin such as Joel16’s PSV VSH Menu
- Don’t even think about running it at 333MHz (stock clock) as you’ll get single digit frame rates!
- There are 4 small demo worlds which demonstrate what could be achieved with the engine
- This means that this demo is a tech demo as it doesn’t have any content that you can actually play through
- Obviously, there are some issues with game’s physics and these are especially noticeable in the world with minimal lighting
- The music, by guesswhatmusic, is pretty nice and I’d be pleased if it were to end up in some other fan-made Mario game
- This demo shows some promise and achieves some pretty cool things but unfortunately, it’ll be the last we’ll be hearing of Super Mario Vita. From the video posted by Fanta Hourglass about the demo’s release, it’s been revealed that he won’t continue working on the game as he’s rightfully afraid that Nintendo will shut him down. However, he’ll continue developing games with Unity as he showed off a prototype of an original 3D platforming game featuring a robot that he plans to release on Steam (PC) and possibly the PSVita. To grab the game demo (for PC and Vita), check out the links below and you can also watch the release video!

Following his short (or inexistant) break from the PSVita scene, Rinnegatamante is back at work creating ports of open-source titles for the PSVita and this time around, he ported NRedneck which is a fork of the open-source EDuke32 engine which adds Redneck Rampage support. Redneck Ramapage, by Xatrix Entertainment, is a first person shooter with a hillbilly theme taking place in Arkansas released in 1997 that makes use of the Duke Nukem 3D’s Build engine. The story is pretty crazy as it features two brothers trying to save their prized pig called Bessie and trying to stop an alien invasion so it shouldn’t really be taken seriously!
From testing on my PSVita, I could deduce the following about the Rinnegatamante’s port:
- Performance is pretty good so you’ll get a pretty solid playing experience
- Sound effects work properly so you can enjoy various “Yee-haw”s present in the game
- The controls are a nice way similar to Rinnegatamante’s other ports
- This port features the main menu and everything from the normal PC port so you can customise the game all you want
As Redneck Rampage isn’t a free game, you have to supply the game data yourself and this is to be done by placing “REDNECK.GRP” in ux0:/data/NRedneck. You may also play Redneck Rampage Rides Again with this port by renaming the GRP file to RA.GRP. To play this port, simply follow the link below to grab the VPK and then copy the data files to your memory card (demo data files aren’t supported). I have tested the game with files from GOG’s Redneck Rampage collection and that the base game works perfectly; you may also use files from the original CD or Steam release if you please.

PSVita and Grand Theft Auto fans rejoice because the day on which we have a GTA game running at native resolution on the PSVita is finally here! This means that TheFlow’s GTA native resolution patch is publicly released alongside a version of Adrenaline to support its resolution increasing techniques.
Just a few days ago, TheFlow revealed more information about his efforts to get the PSP’s GTA games (Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories) to run at the PSVita’s native resolution which created a fair amount of hype around his work.

Sony Interactive Entertainment will no longer be selling digital versions of full games via physical retail, as of next month.
Reports first emerged that the platform holder was pulling full game download codes when a Twitter user Wario64 shared a memo reportedly issued to GameStop staff detailing the change.
According to the memo, digital games will only be purchasable via the PlayStation Store after April 1, although retailers like GameStop will still be able to sell cards for add-on content and virtual currency.
Responding to a request from GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson said: "I can confirm that as of April 1, 2019, we will no longer be offering full games through SIE's Global Digital at Retail program. The decision was made in in order to align key businesses globally.
"To support full games and premium editions, SIE will introduce increased denominations at select retailers. DLC, add-ons, virtual currency, and season passes will still be available."

Sony is taking its marketing message straight to the fans. The company today announced the launch of its new video show State of Play, with the first episode set to debut Monday, March 25 at 2 p.m. Pacific.
"State of Play will give you updates and announcements from the world of PlayStation," PlayStation director of social media Sid Shuman said in announcing the show. "Our first episode will showcase upcoming PS4 and PS VR software, including new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage."
That description sounds very much like the Nintendo Direct series of promotional videos and announcements Nintendo , or the revival of Inside Xbox that Microsoft launched last year.
Shuman said that State of Play will be a recurring program, returning a number of times this year.

Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models.
(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84).
Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models (OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc.). We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).
The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful. Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation. As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.
So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).
What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
1.You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
2.You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
(The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
3.You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
4.You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.
To all scener's and developers: Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.
Special thanks @habib @bguerville @esc0rtd3w @Doge_Rules @DeViL303 @littlebalup

Sony has just started pushing PS4 firmware 6.51 to PS4 consoles worldwide.
PS4 6.51 and hacks
As always with such a minor release, not much is known about the update. It is not clear whether this actually patches an undisclosed exploit, or if it just brings some urgent patch for a specific game. Furthermore, at the time of publishing, Sony haven’t updated their official firmware page and 6.50 is still mentioned as the latest update.
We advise for people who want to hack their console to stay on as own a firmware as they possibly can, until we hear more details from hackers. The highest hackable firmware (publicly) is 5.07. (Check more details on our PS4 Jailbreak page)
PS4 6.50
The previous update, PS4 firmware 6.50, was released 3 weeks ago and added remote play support for iOS as well as the possibility to swap the O/X buttons.
Should I update my PS4 to 6.5x?
Again, for people willing to hack their console should stay on a low firmware if possible. Hackers have hinted at hacks available on firmware 6.xx, and there even was a webkit exploit released for 6.20, but no “full” Jailbreak has been announced for recent firmwares by any credible source.
For people not looking to hack their PS4, it is likely you will have to update to 6.51 in order to retain online service access for your console (PSN, etc…)

When Sony releases a new PS3 firmware, one of the first homebrew utilities to get updated is SEN Enabler because playing online requires you to be on the latest firmware. As FW 4.84 was released in February, SEN Enabler has been able to spoof FW 4.84 for a while but it now got support for FW 4.84 with version 6.2.2. The changelog for SEN Enabler 6.2.2 mentions the following:
- Cobra 4.84 DEX is now supported
- Spoof and hash fix support for 4.84 Cobra CFWs (CEX/DEX) has been added
- Cobra was updated to version 8.0.1

If your PS3’s minimum firmware is above 3.56, CFW is a no-go and you have to be content with HAN. However, some developers on the PS3 scene (Pink1, DeViL303, Imn7) decided to give some more features to HAN-only PS3 models and released HAN Toolbox! Among other things, HAN Toolbox gives you file management capabilities and downloaders for demos, themes, wallpapers and NoPSN apps.
Now, this utility has been updated to version 0.7 with the following features:
- Various compatibility updates relating to FW 4.84
- Offline Rebooter, HAN Enabler, Debug PKG Enabler have been updated with 4.84 support
- An offline File Copier for 4.84 has been added
- An offline Temperature Reader & Database Rebuilder with support for FW 4.82/4.84 has been added
- PS3Xploit Basic and Extra tools have been updated
- Coldboot, Font and Wave downloaders have been added

The former CEO of Sony, Kaz Hirai, will also be stepping down as the company's board chairman and departing the company.
Hirai first announced he would hand off the role of CEO in February of last year, but at the time said he would remain on as director and board chaiman when the new company structure took effect the following April. He has continued to hold those roles since, while the role of CEO passed to Kenichiro Yoshida.
Today, in a news release, Sony announced Hirai would also retire from the role of board chairman, to be replaced by director Shuzo Sumi.

Contrary to what non-GTA fans might think, not all GTA games are 3D in nature and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is one of them. Originally released for the Nintendo DS, the game has a 2D overhead perspective which was ideal considering the system’s technical limitations but then, it was also released on the PSP/iOS/Android which are all platforms that provide much more power. However, the game still retained the 2D perspective but with some tinkering, GTA fans managed to get the 3D chase perspective to be used whenever you got in a vehicle on the PSP port!
Unfortunately, this (namely PPSSPP) so getting the 3D perspective on the PSP/Vita was a no-go until recently. Now, RealYoti is working on a version of this hack that actually works on the PSP/PSVita thus allowing these consoles to roam around the GTA:CT map in 3D albeit with a few graphical issues. To demonstrate his work, RealYoti published a video (below) which can be seen below but he hasn’t set an ETA yet and the mod crashes the game when you drive a car into the water!

For quite a while, z2442 and TheMrIron2 along with a few others have been working on improving DaedalusX64, the only working Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP and PSVita. As the Nintendo 64 is somewhat difficult to emulate and demands pretty high system requirements, it is quite surprising that the PSP manages to get playable framerates in some games but this is owed to the fact that the N64 and PSP use the same CPU architecture. Obviously, not all games exhibit good performance and many are quite slow but with recent improvements, more titles have become playable and many bugs have been fixed!
To show off some progress on the upcoming DaedalusX64 1.1.7, a video was published (below) which shows playable performance in the following games:
- Super Mario 64
- This game works pretty well in the last official release of DaedalusX64 too
- Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Performance hovers around the 70-80% with a few stutters but the game is still quite playable
- StarFox64
- Zelda Majora’s Mask (there are some nasty stutters so it’s not exactly playable for now)
- Mario Kart 64
- Official releases of DaedalusX64 emulate it with okay performance but any speed improvements are always welcome!
To learn a bit more about the upcoming DaedalusX64 release which should be coming this Friday and some optimal game settings, check out its Reddit thread.
Conclusion
While the stuff in this article isn’t yet released, you can still mess around with GTA on your PSVita with TheFlow’s native resolution hack (below). A link with information about the current version of the improved DaedalusX64 can also be found below if you want to try your favourite N64 games on the PSP/Vita right now!

Rinnegatamante has released a new version of his PS Vita port of Quake III. The popular port has made great progress since its initial release almost a year ago, and it’s great to get regular updates!
This release brings significant performance improvements. The Developer recommends in particular to play the game at a 480×272 resolution, which massively enhances the framerate while negative impact from the lower resolution is minimal.
Other changes from this release (from the changelog):
- Updated to latest ioquake3 source.
- Updated to latest vitaGL source.
- Added MSAA 4x support (always active).
- Improved performances and resource consumption of the renderer.
- Added OpenArena support (NOTE: Read the updated first post), it will be fully playable since it’s a free alternative to Quake III.
Download VitaQuake III
You can download VitaQuake III from VitaDB here. You will (of course) need a hacked PS Vita in order to run this port.

While the DosBox emulator is one of the most popular emulators around, the Switch and PSVita ports of it didn’t see as much love as other emulators.
Due to this, dynarec wasn’t working on both these ports but now, m4wx decided to change things a bit and has been to get DosBox’s aarch64 (ARM 64) dynamic recompiler (dynarec) working on the Switch. This means that many more MS-DOS games, such as WarCraft 2 (below) and Settlers 2, run great and performance in Windows 95/98/ME is probably much better which means that some older Windows games may be playable on the Switch!
Switching focus to the PSVita, its DosBox port is also seeing some love as frangar pushed some commits to GitHub relating to dynarec support. As of right now, no official word has been given on the state of DosBox’s dynarec on the Vita but MS-DOS/Windows 9x emulation on the device might get a significant improvement soon!
The Switch builds of DosBox with dynarec aren’t publicly available as of right now and are only available in beta form for Patreon supports of m4wx or rsn8887. That being said, they’ll probably be made available to everybody in the coming days/weeks as both developers are big contributors to the homebrew community.

rsn8887 has released yet another significant update to ScummVM for the Switch which brings about support for USB mice and keyboards.
This which will translate to a more faithful gaming experience and more accurate input as games that can be run in ScummVM are all ‘point and click’ adventure games like Leisure Suit Larry. Rsn8887 notes that not all mice may work and some keyboard/mouse combos don’t work either due to limitations in the Switch’s USB driver so if the mouse you try using doesn’t work, just try another one!
To grab this build of ScummVM (and an updated PSP build), simply follow this link and download the NRO provided.
