The release of the NGP, Sony's successor to the PSP, may be limited to a single region because of the continuing disruption caused by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton admitted that instead of a worldwide launch this autumn the Next Generation Portable may be released in only one region: either Japan, Europe or the US.
Referring to the earthquake disaster in an interview with Bloomberg, Tretton commented: "It may be the straw that says 'maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year'".
As with earlier concerns over the launch of the iPad 2, the earthquake has forced several factories in Japan to close for repair. Supplies from third parties have also become unreliable in Northern Japan.
New consoles from Sony and Nintendo are often released in Japan first, with the PSP originally appearing in Japan in December 2004, in North America in March 2005 and Europe in September 2005.
"It raises the bar on the competitive issues that Sony is going to have to hurdle," said Wedbush Securities analyst Edward Woo. "As it is now, it's already going to be almost eight months behind Nintendo, and a delay could push that to a year."
"Expectations are pretty limited for NGP this calendar year, the idea being that they would need some time to build up a library," said Jay Defibaugh of MF Global FXA Securities.
"Third parties carry more weight for the Sony platform and are going to need more time for development, so the medium-term view is more important for NGP than how it gets out of the starting block," he added.

April 6th, 2011, 01:19 Posted By: wraggster
The ongoing Great East Japan Earthquake relief campaign on the PlayStation Network has raised ¥109.6 million ($1.32 million) in donations and purchases from PlayStation 3 owners.
The appeal was launched in the West on March 19 and in Asia on March 24, and includes special XMB custom themes for those making donations. The appeal is currently active in 40 countries around the world.
The money will be donated to an organisation in each region supporting relief and recovery efforts, namely the British Red Cross, the American Red Cross - Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund, and the Central Community Chest of Japan/Red Feather Community Chest Movement for Japan and Asia.
As well as private donations Sony Computer Entertainment will continue to support the relief effort directly with its own funds.
"While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region, I would like to express our gratitude to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort," said Kazuo Hirai, president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

US sources suggest ‘S1’ device to be ready for US shipping by September
The oft-rumoured but as yet unconfirmed Sony tablet device known as the S1 is now said to be a PlayStation Certified Android 3.0 device ready for shipping in the US by September 2011.
According to sources at Engaget, the touchscreen device will cost around $599 (£370) for a Wi-Fi only model, and the VAIO team are looking to link it up with the Qriocity steaming service and PlayStation Suite.
Other suggested features include Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor, a Honeycomb interface, a 9.4-inch display, a 1280 x 800 resolution screen and a ‘wrap around’ design.
The S1 has been an object of speculation since Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer confirmed that the firm was working on an Android powered tablet set for a summer 2011 release.

Hey all, long time no see.
I would just like to inform you all of my current status and explain why I have been very inactive of late.
So the first thing is that I am currently finishing off an iPhone game for a client. This should be completed by next week, the money which was raised for this just about saved me from bankruptcy. That money is gone now and more bills have been flooding in since. So next week I actually do have some free time, that of which I would love to be spending on Snes9X Euphoria or LuaPlayer Euphoria or both...
However, due to these recent influx of builds I have no choice but to persue either starting up a new iPhone game myself (which may or may not bring in any money) or seeking contract work. Ideally I would like to take a break from iPhone dev and show some more love to the PSP, but unless something like a donation fund is set up or something I just cannot see it being feasible.
I will lay it out in the bleak truth that it is :
I owe $1400 dollars or €1000 euro.
I have 14 days to pay it or god knows what will happen, it will probably result in the bailiffs coming round to my house and taking my Mac Mini (which i use for PSP & iPhone dev, it's my only computer) and a lot more to recoup the debt.
I can't bring myself to ask the community directly to help, and i don't want this to be a donation plea, but if you have some spare change laying around in your paypal account and would like to help (and give me some time as a result to get a new version of snes9x out), you can send a paypal donation to : zackonmac [AT] gmail.com
Thanks to any who do donate, I would honestly be flabbergasted if the overall donations reached the amount I have to pay out, but everything helps.
Also for those that don't know, I have no job and cannot get one (god knows I tried), so programming is my job, i just don't get paid for doing it most of the time (if ever :/) .
Thank you, and hopefully some of you kind folks can help, I really want to have time to update snes9x euphoria, this debt is preventing that however.

News via http://ps3.gx-mod.com/modules/news/a...p?storyid=2707
Squarepusher proposes a new version of his port of Snes9x (SNES emulator) PS3 (FW 1.92 + / FW 3.15/FW 3.41/CFW 3.55).
New / fixed:
- Significant performance optimizations and reduced lag.
- You can now use shaders 2 simultaneously. This is called 'Custom Scaling / Dual Shader'. A scaling factor (1 to 4X) can be specified. Interesting graphical effects can be activated by combining shaders.
- The presets for shaders can be added. These configuration files automatically setting the settings for the 'Shader 1', 'Shader 2', 'Hardware
Filtering Shader 1 ',' Hardware Filtering Shader 2 ',' Scaling Factor 'and' overscan '. You can also create your own presets. These are text files stored in USRDIR / presets.
- The remotes can now be configured individually. You can also configure specific controls to a controller connected to a specific port of the console.
- Integration of cheats is now less buggy with the new control scheme. L2 + Analog Stick Right Stock - Low still allows the integration of codes with the OSK, but it will not make integrating a generic label (just the cheat code itself as a label) until you rename this label through action 'Input Cheatlabel'. The new control scheme manages meanwhile cheats via 'L2 + R2 + Right Analog Stick - Down'. Of course you can reconfigure this combination you wish.
- Fixed games such as interlaced Rise Of The Robots that induced glitches in previous versions.
- Added a set of homebrew SNES Themaister.
- Added some changes shaders and new filters - HQ4x, 4xBR - through Jacaraca.
PS3 snes9x 4.4.8

After changing the memory size VFlash hard disk of the PS3 Slim and having installed Gentoo Linux distribution changed over, Graf-chokolo German developer gives his first impressions on the operation of Linux on the internal HDD of the PS3.
"Gentoo is now embarking on a PS3 Slim since VFlash is really fast, warm-boot with kexec works well, I can restart my Gentoo with kexec without turning off the PS3." ( http://pastie.org/1751382 )
When asked the question of an ETA for the arrival of the otheros 3.55 for users lambdas, Graf-Chokolo said:
"Difficult to answer, it depends not only me but also other people who help me to test my work on their PS3, I have to adjust the kexec, then I must make a netinstall with my Debian-kernel, not bad much remains to be done "
Graf also plans to make a tool available to all users to enable everyone to easily install Linux and its back their impressions.
With these words he is arguably the project's dual-boot with Linux GameOS is on track to allow a resurgence of the joys of open source on PS3 CFW 3.55.

News via http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/sony-...awsuits-84481/
As 'scene' developers are finding ways to 'return' Linux to Jailbroken PS3 Consoles, that Sony forcely removed from all Consoles last year, Sony has decided to use the 1st year Anniversary of this sad event, to move the courts to dismiss the 'Other OS' lawsuits that had been filed by 'legit' PS3 owners!
One of the 'legal' grounds that Sony seems to be using is the wonderful new 'ToS' that also had recently forced down PSN owners with the switchover to 'SNEA', read more from extracts from the 'Groklaw' site:
Quote:
There’s news from the class action litigation, In re Sony PS3 ‘Other OS’ Litigation, where the plaintiffs are suing Sony Computer Entertainment America for removing OtherOS from Playstation 3s. SCEA has filed another motion to dismiss [PDF] the class action case, once again saying that the plaintiffs’ newly filed First Amended Complaint is insufficient to state a claim. The original complaint’s claims, except for one, were dismissed, with the judge giving the plaintiffs a chance to refile. Now that they have, SCEA says this refiled complaint should be tossed out also. There will be a hearing on all this on May 12th.
And the class action plaintiffs are asking the judge [PDF] to help them get discovery that SCEA is, they claim, reluctant to provide. Role reversal. In the SCEA v. Hotz litigation, SCEA is all about discovery, all they can get. Here, it’s the opposite.
There is a transcript from a February 9th hearing in the Sony class action attached as an exhibit to the plaintiffs’ letter to the judge in the case, and I think you’ll be amazed. Would you like to know what SCEA’s lawyers think of customers who use Linux? We get to find out, because the hearing begins with SCEA asking the judge for access to the plaintiffs’ hard drives. Why would you want that, the judge asks? These are not defendants accused of anything, remember. Sony is the one in the hot seat, but here is the incredible answer: because, says their attorney, these plaintiffs say they used Linux, so SCEA suspects they were part of a hacking conspiracy, and they’d like to check. There’s more, and I’ll tell you all about it.
And SCEA claims in the transcript that it wasn’t the entity that decided to drop OtherOS. It says in this courtroom that Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is responsible for that decision. In Hotz, SCEA says it is responsible for pretty much everything to do with PS3s in the US, or at least I got that impression. SCEA also tells the judge at the hearing that there’s been a change in the corporate setup. SCEI isn’t the parent of SCEA any more. So I did a little research on that. Who are they then? And how how were they related? I have found some press releases that clarify very nicely.
The 'bad part' that makes you do a 'double-take' is the part that Sony wants to look at all the HDD's from those that filed the 'Other OS lawsuits' claiming maybe they are part of a bigger 'hacker conspiracy'!
At least thanks to hard effort Graf_Chokolo Linux has made a 'come-back', all tho since we don't own our PS3 Consoles thanks to the new 'ToS' by Sony, we are at the mercy of being 'sued' or 'worse' if we play around with the 'coreOS' to get back features that Sony originally SOLD us when we BOUGHT our PS3 from the store!

Unless you’ve been living under a Nintendo rock for the past 6 months, you already know these two hackers who have been relentlessly working on a Homebrew Enabler / Custom Firmware for the latest PSP models, including the PSP Go. Known as CFW Pro, this tool is progressively becoming the most used Custom Firmware solution on all PSPs.
Today I had the privilege to discuss with both Coldbird and Virtuous Flame and talk about their ongoing work. In this interview, we talked a bit about their history in the PSP scene, upcoming features in CFW Pro, and their insight on various technical subjects such as the hack of firmware 6.37, or permanent CFW possibilities on unhackable motherboards… sounds interesting? Well, the tasty bits are in the interview, follow me

Codestation joins the PSP Genesis competition (The first homebrew contest organized by all the major PSP scene websites, more than 4500$ to win!) with a very useful plugin. The author has been continuously updating this plugin and taking into account users feedback since the first release a few days ago, making it an already very popular plugin in the community.
Quoting the author:
This is a screenshot plugin that doesn’t need to pause the game to take the capture (useful for avoid lag disconnects on online/adhoc gaming) and classifies the images per game using their name and icons (just like the very few games that come with native screenshot support).
The current version is 0.2.2, here is the full changelog:
- v0.2.2:
- Added support for POPS (PSone games support).
- Added support for storing the screenshots into the M2 in the PSPGo.
- Added logging and made it conditional on build when compiling from source.
- Fixed bug with XMB icon creation introduced in 0.2.0.v0.2.1:
- Added OIL to blacklist.v0.2.0:
- Removed trailing “/” so the directory creation don’t fail.
- New configuration file (prxshot.ini) so now you can configure some things
like background use for picture folders, change the button combo to take
the screenshot and the suffix/prefix of the picture file.v0.1.3: - Create /PSP/SCREENSHOT in case it doesn’t existsv0.1.2:
- Rewrote asm payload code (doesn’t need memory allocation anymore so hopefully the issues with 6.20 / aLoader are finally fixed)v0.1.1:
- Fixes bugs with 6.20 TN and/or aLoader
What else? Well, it’s highly configurable, open source, works on most recent firmwares… the kind of plugin that reminds me that user mode access is not always good enough

fede94boss’s entry for the PSP Genesis competition is a simple yet addictive game. I’ll quote the author:
The purpose of the game is : catch the ball running on the screen and stop it within the rectangle.
if you give the ball when it isn’t inside the rectangle will be scaled a life and a point.
but be careful, because when the lives reach zero snaps the game over, and you have to start all over again. As a nice addition, the game allows you to customize the backgrounds and graphics, with a simple selection menu.

Spike_132000′s entry to the Genesis competition is a very useful App, designed to act like an Appstore for homebrews. Apps like this one already exist, to some extent (I’m thinking of Installotron, or Homebrew Store, although I must admit I haven’t tested those in depth), but PSP Installer 5 looks definitely good, and offers options that I haven’t seen in other places, such as the possibility to choose between signed and unsigned homebrews,or the possibility to install themes.
Overall the application looks and feels very professional. Running the app and installing a homebrew only took a few minutes, and I have to admit that if the application becomes succesfull, this makes installing homebrews very easy. Only time will tell us if this app catches up, but give it a try.

Been having trouble with the PlayStation Network or any Sony website today? You're not alone. A widespread outage that started in Europe last night has now spread to North America, and none other than hacktivist group Anonymous is claiming responsibility for the attacks. As you can see above, however, Sony is singing a slightly different tune, and says simply that "sporadic maintenance" may cause PSN service to be interrupted throughout the day. Because, really, you can never do too much "sporadic" maintenance.

Classic RPG Final Fantasy V is on its way to both PlayStation 3 and PSP via PlayStation Network, publisher Square Enix has announced.
The game originally came out on the SNES back in 1992, while a 1998 PSone take added new cutscenes - and it's that version you'll be playing.
A Game Boy Advance port popped up in 2006 too, winning an 8/10 from Eurogamer's Simon Parkin.
No release date or pricing has been pinned down, though Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX are currently available from Sony's download service for £7.99 so expect it to be in that ballpark.

A group of hackers known simply as Anonymous has claimed to be planning and perpetrating a series of hacking attacks on Sony in support of two of the hackers implicated in the PS3 jalibreaking furore.
Action, the group says, will be taken in response to the company's continued legal pursuit of George 'Geohot' Hotz and Alexander Egorenkov, or Graf_Chokolo.
Anonymous is a collection of hackers with an anti-corporate agenda and a track-record of successfully disruptive tactics. Previously, the group has claimed responsibility for denial of service (DOS) attacks on Mastercard and Amazon for their compliance with US government demands to stop doing business with Wikileaks.
You have victimised your customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information.
Anonymous
The group also claims to have brought down the website of the right wing fundamentalist Christian group the Westboro Baptist Church and infiltrated the email system of security firm HBGary.
A statement issued as a press release on the group's website announces the group's intentions to make Sony the next target.
"Congratulations, Sony," reads the announcement. "You have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our fellow hackers, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable.
"You have abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have victimised your customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information.
"In doing so, you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach to the world for free. The very same information which you wish to suppress for the sake of corporate greed and the complete control of users."
As damning as the group's statement is, there also appears to be some unrest in its ranks in respect to the correct course of action. Last month, a splinter group claiming to be made up of former Anonymous members contacted Forbes and Gawker, calling themselves Backtrace Security.
That group claims that the current members of Anonymous have lost sight of the original mission statement for the group, being sidelined into 'hactivism' instead of playful mischief. As a result, Backtrace Security has threatened to release the details of several anonymous members.
The group also handed over logs from a private IRC channel known as #HQ which belongs to Anonymous, showing the group's plans to infiltrate HBGary as well as other evidence of criminal activities, information certain to be of interest to US authorities.
"The bastards are becoming arrogant sociopaths," Backtrace Security member A5h3r4 told Gawker. "Acting first, not thinking of the consequences. They're recruiting children. I am a pretty far left person - I believe in privacy and free expression, but Anonymous is a vigilante group now. A mob without conscience. And I worry they will radicalise even more. In short, I believe they're on their way to becoming a genuine threat."
Whether the group's efforts will have any bearing on the Sony case remains to be seen, but the platform holder is already heavily invested in the case, which Hotz is contesting. No public evidence of a successful attack on Sony has yet to come to light.

In a bored moment, I made some changes to ctorrentpsp by danzel:
Changes:
* (summarizing) A lot of bugfix and improvements by updating from "ctorrent-dnh3.2" to "ctorrent-dnh3.3.2". You can see for yourself in Enhanced CTorrent official site

I will make other modifications, but not this time.
