Sony Computer Entertainment and George Hotz have settled their hacking legal dispute, according to a joint statement.
Sony had been taking legal action against Hotz for publishing and distributing security circumvention for the PlayStation 3.
Hotz has now consented to a permanent injunction and said that "it was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier. I'm happy to have the litigation behind me." He added that he is not involved in any of the recent attacks on Sony websites and services.
Those attacks are from a loose collective of hackers linked to Anonymous - the settlement between Hotz and Sony was agreed in principle on March 31, days before Anonymous threatened Sony for its legal actions against Hotz and other notorious hackers.
Said Riley Russell, general counsel for SCEA: "Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal."
Despite a press release focused on cooperation, Hotz has now said he is boycotting all Sony products in the future.
Sony has not revealed any details of its pursuit of hacking group fail0verflow, which it was also taking legal action against at the same time as George Hotz.

Sony is planning to woo developers to bring a new type of PlayStation exclusive to market in the coming months - freezing out the likes of iPhone to release mobile titles only on its Xperia Play phone.
The mobile is PlayStation certified, and carries the familiar d-pad and button design found across Sony's home console generations. And just like its older brothers, the device should soon boast a suite of exclusive titles which Sony hopes will be the envy of its rivals.
Xperia Play launched last month boasting 60 games, including a bunch of PlayStation Originals, and one very noticeable third-party timed exclusive title - Trendy Entertainment's Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave. And according to Sony Ericsson UK marketing boss David Hilton, there's more where that came from.
When CVG asked if Sony was negotiating to get more exclusives onto the phone from its partners, Hilton replied:
"Yeah, totally, of course. We will continue to work with the developers like EA, Glu and Gameloft about what they can do, along with Sony Computer Entertainment. And there are these others as well that are working with us - and yes, we would hope and expect for the developers to give some more exciting stories like [Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave] in the future.
He added: "I can't comment on anything specific, but I mean yes that's the aspiration. We definitely want to create marketing stories and reasons for people to want and come to buy the Xperia Play - so exclusives are on our agenda and our wishlist. Beyond just pure exclusives it is also about making sure developers are making something special. Look at [Xperia Play launch title] Galaxy on Fire 2, you know. The [studio] CEO is quoted as saying they specifically built a version for the Xperia Play and they believe it plays better on Xperia Play that anything else. So its as much about having a better experience on Xperia Play, certainly than other Android devices, it is a key part of what we're looking to offer."
Discussing Second Wave itself, Hilton said that the title would eventually be available for cross-platform play over Xbox 360 and other consoles.
"Second Wave is currently exclusive to the Xperia Play," he explained. "It launched first on Xperia Play it will roll out for Xbox and other platforms later and they've gone to development and said actually it's multiplayer, multiplatform so you can be in the same game playing over wi-fi on the Xperia Play playing with your friend at home on their Xbox, so very clever stuff.
"But that's what that developer has done because they thought the Xperia Play is a very important product in terms of driving mobile gaming so yeah, and there's other examples of developers doing special things like that for Xperia Play. They see Android as a big shout and they see Xperia Play, rightly, as the leading device to drive Android mobile gaming."

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/04/10/p...s-compo-entry/
Coldbird and Virtuous Flame announced a while ago that the next version of their CFW would be part of the genesis competition, and here they are, with CFW Pro B4, a new version packed with features.
One of the things that will probably get the most attention is that CFW Pro is now compatible not only with Firmware 6.35, but also with firmware 6.20 (separate download), a feature that was announced as a “big surprise” in an interview here on wololo.net. Not only that, but the 6.20 package actually has 2 versions, one being a regular HEN/LCFW, the other one being a permanent CFW (Permanent patch is not possible on 6.35 for now). This gives even more choice to all the people who were staying on 6.20 to benefit from TN’s Hen. It is now possible to use both TN’s Hen or CFW PRo on 6.20. A way for the two coders to let you try their work, and decide if you want to upgrade to 6.35.
There’s lots of stuff to be said about this new update, but I’ll simply quote Coldbird here:
Sony has always been trying to put a lock on our consoles, preventing us from using the full abilities of the devices we bought, well… if something’s locked then you just need the key, right?

Unless you're into weird promotional mascots, video games, or measuring the rotation of the earth, the PlayStation Move probably hasn't caught your eye. Here's an idea: what if you could wave it about to control your PC? Earlier this week, electronics hobbyist Jacob Pennock used the Move.me C library to build a gesture-controlled mouse driver, and we've got the project's tech demo after the break. Watch as Pennock launches Facebook by drawing an "F," starts a video with a jaunty "V," and closes a few items with a quick "X" motion over the offending windows. Control motions are loaded through the creator's own gesture recognition library, called hyperglyph, which he claims can record motions with 98 percent accuracy. As Move.me is currently a closed beta, Pennock is keeping the source code under wraps, but he hopes to eventually put the driver to use controlling a gesture-based Linux media center. Pretty neat, but not quite enough to stave off our Kinect hack envy.

What started as loose-lipped tattle is now official: the PSP will get a taste of Sony's Music Unlimitedstreaming music service starting on April 14th. The service, tortuously entitled "Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity" by Sony, requires a PlayStation Network ID to access all that digital audio. Once setup, Sony promises a "synchronized music experience" across your PSP, PS3, PC, and other network-enabled Sony devices like Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players -- a claim backed by a cloud-based catalog of some seven million tracks supported by a "music sync" functionality that will automatically organize your Music Unlimited library after perusing the local files and playlists found in your existing media player (yes, iTunes is supported). Click through the break for the full press release and a good video overview of the service while you ponder the $3.99 basic and $9.99 premium monthly service fees.

Say you're a hacker trying to cripple a major electronics company for suing its own users: how do you launch a cyberattack without harming the people you're trying to protect? In the case of hactivist group 'Anonymous,' which has spent the week targeting Sony to retaliate against Sony's ongoing lawsuits against PlayStation 3 modifiers, you take it offline. Anonymous is staging a 24-hour, in-store boycott at Sony stores around the world on Saturday, April 16. So far over 1,000 people have RSVP'd through Facebook."http://slashdot.org/story/11/04/09/1...tt-On-April-16

Sony's oddball PlayStation 3 petting sim returns "later this year" with EyePet & Friends, the platform holder has announced.
This time around, you'll have two weird cat/chimp things to deal with. There's full Move integration and a bunch of new features promised.
"In the new EyePet, there's a whole new world of customisable fun to be had," explained brand manager Rebecca Maschke on the PlayStation Blog.
"Need a new toy to keep your furry friend entertained or a new outfit for a special occasion? No problem! Head over to the Creativity Centre where you'll be able to expand the world you and your EyePets live in as you use your PlayStation Move controller to create and customise your very own content."
There are also new content sharing options that let you connect with other proud EyePet owners and show off your little critters.
The original game launched back in 2009, with Move support then added last year.
"If you find the concept attractive then there's certainly enough here to warrant further investigation and, when everything clicks, it's as charming an experience as you'll find on the big-boy consoles," wrote Eurogamer's Dan Whitehead in his 6/10 review.

Disgaea 4, the latest entry in Nippon Ichi's much-loved strategy RPG series, arrives in Europe this Autumn, the developer has announced.
According to a post on its official website, the PlayStation 3 title will be on US shelves in September, with a more ambiguous "Fall" release window pegged for PAL-land.
The game, which launched in Japan in February, boasts a new graphics engine and a fistful of fresh battle features. There's also a new map-generating mode that lets you create and share your own stages.
To mark the occasion, the developer has launched a competition to name an in-game weapon, a character and a skill. A dedicated site has just gone live where you can submit your suggestions.
The last outing for the franchise, the superb Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, arrived on PlayStation 3 back in 2009.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has cut the price of the PlayStation Portable today ahead of the release of a successor later this year.
The PSP will carry a new recommended retail price of €129.99 (£114), down from €179.99 and bringing it into line with a US price cut in February of $129.99. The console currently retails in the UK for around £129.99.
We are not in a position to offer a similar cut in PSP for the UK.
Sony
According to SCEE, the move is for mainland Europe only - Sony is unable to offer a price reduction for UK consumers.
"It has been made possible by favourable fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Euro and the Yen. Since we in the UK are vulnerable to two exchange rate calculations, pounds into Euro's and Euro's into Yen, we are not in a position to offer a similar cut in PSP for the UK," said a spokesperson.
The PSP's successor, codenamed NGP, is due before the end of the year, with more solid details expected at this year's E3 event in June. There's some confusion from Sony as to whether it will be available in Europe, the US and UK this year.

According to AnonNews, a community-driven news site for the nebulous hacktivism cooperative Anonymous, a cease-fire is underway in the group's fight against Sony. Over the last week, Sony's websites, forums, and even the PlayStation Network have been intermittently out of commission, allegedly due to attacks from the group.
A press release on AnonNews says that though the group's campaign against Sony will continue in some form, "Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time." The group, according to the announcement, is suspending that effort "until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers."
Even though whoever wrote this might feel that way, of course, there could still be hundreds of thousands of people out there who feel differently and continue attacking PSN. There's no way of knowing how "official" this announcement is, or even how many Anons were into hacking PSN in the first place. The group is, well, anonymous.

The four exclusive Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition fighters are on their way to consoles as a single DLC pack, according to a leaked trailer.
The clip, originally hosted by ConsoleTECH but since removed by Capcom, confirms that Street Fighter III's Yun and Yang, Evil Ryu and new character Oni will be made available on console as downloadable content.
There are new animated prologue and ending cinematics for all four, as well as support for additional alternative costumes.
The add-on will apparently also incorporate the arcade version's tweaked character balancing, an enhanced replay channel that allows you to swap replay data with other users and a new Elite Channel where you can watch replays of bouts between players with 3000PP and above.
We're checking in with Capcom for clarification and will update if it responds.
There's no word on a release date yet, but a BBFC listing discovered last month suggested it would be available on 24th June.

Giant American shop-chain GameStop is selling new racing game DiRT 3 for $299.99.
No not the everyday edition - a special Ken Block Gymkhana RC Car Bundle.
For $300 you receive an exclusive replica Ken Block remote-controlled rally car. Oh, and the DiRT 3 game.
The car has a "multi-function knob" and something called a "Velineon 380 motor".
Will it come to Europe? We've asked Codemasters and it's TBC. Apparently the company that makes the RC cars runs an mostly American operation.
DiRT 3 arrives next month. Codemasters has been listening to feedback and accepts that in past games "the Americanisation might have gone too far". That's what chief designer Paul Coleman told Wesley Yin-Poole when put on the spot in February.

A Sony Japan spokesperson has denied reports that the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan will delay, or at least stagger, the release of the NGP later this year due to damage to production facilities.
Comments to the effect that the release would be delayed had been attributed to SCEA president Jack Tretton in an interview with Bloomberg.
In that interview, Tretton said that the earthquake "may be the straw that says 'maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year'".
However, SCEJ spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka has now claimed that the disaster has not affected production, saying "So far we see no impact from the quake on our launch plan" and calling Tretton's assertion "wrong" in a statement to Nikkei.
Nonetheless, it would appear that a staggered launch, beginning in Japan, might have been the plan all along, with Fukuoka seeming to imply that that plan would still go ahead.

Ubisoft PR man Alex Monney has broken the news that the Splinter Cell HD Trilogy will feature no multiplayer modes.
Those of you who were looking forward to another blast (or possibly your first play) with the incredible multiplayer features that were in SC: Chaos Theory are out of luck. They've been ripped out.
"Unfortunately ... the online part of the original games won't be included," Monney confirmed in response to PS Blog reader queries.
Even Chaos Theory's co-op campaign has been given the snip, with Monney later confirming: "Sorry no co-op will be included in the trilogy."
He also confirmed that Ubisoft used the PC versions of the games for the HD PS3 ports, because they "provided the best quality", which is good news because the Xbox original relied heavily on lighting effects and real-time shadows - something that we felt was dumbed down in the PS2 version.
