Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play smartphone arrives in UK stores on 31st March with six games pre-installed.
According to MCV, the handset comes with five Android titles - Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, Tetris, Star Battalion, FIFA 10 and The Sims 3 - and one PSone title - Crash Bandicoot.
The phone's launch will be backed by Sony Ericsson's biggest UK marketing campaign ever and be available in all high street mobile retailers. Marketing director David Hilton suggested that this might later be expanded to include game stores.
"We are currently still in commercial conversation, but I'd be surprised if we didn't see Xperia Play appear in other channels," he explained.
"All the mobile operators and retailers are selling it. It is rare these days to get a product that is sold everywhere, but this is one of those."
On top of the six games listed above and your standard array of Android titles, there'll be a further 50 games available to download from the PlayStation Suite at or near launch. A full list wasn't made available but some of them will be PSone games while others will be optimised smartphone titles.

Slashdot writes: The recent European import ban against the PlayStation 3 has been lifted. Reportedly, LG had already succeeded in seizing about 300,000 PlayStations, but a court in the Dutch city of The Hague overturned the prejudgment seizure order and told LG to return all PS3s to Sony. Sony uses the Netherlands as its main entry point for all European PlayStation sales, and can now return to normal. While the temporary ban has been lifted, LG can still assert its Blu-ray patents against Sony in a regular proceeding, which will go to trial on November 18. LG asks for patent royalties of $2.50 per Blu-ray device and believes Sony already owes it $150-180 million

PlayStation 2 games will launch on Android devices, according to NVIDIA.
Website Androidandme noticed NVIDIA's Tegra Zone app updated with an announcement relating to Sony's hardware neutral game framework PS Suite.
The thrust of the release concerned the announcement that the Suite will come to Tegra-equipped Android phones and tablets later this year - the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, due out later this month, was previously the only device confirmed to offer PlayStation titles.
PlayStation certified games to hit Tegra devices include PSone classics Wild Arms, Cool Boarders 2 and Syphon Filter.
But buried within the announcement is a mention that PlayStation 2 games will eventually be released on Android devices – and current speculation suggests they'll turn up on the Xperia Play.
Tech website Endgadget, however, said PS2 games are unlikely to arrive on Xperia Play any time soon because of a lack of horsepower. Sony, it says, could be waiting for quad-core mobile chips to arrive.
Which PS2 games would you like to play on your Xperia Play?

Hello, there. Here's something you might not know about me: I love Home. But it's broken, and that makes me sad, like when the younger Home avatars laugh at my belly.
Two years on and it's still a beta. A lot has improved since I first installed it back in 2008, but it's still a laughable technical shambles.
The menus? They're unbearable. Even with a lightning fast internet connection, loading something as simple as a grid of trousers on the wardrobe screen is excruciatingly slow.
So much so that I've been wearing the same ones for six months. You spend more time watching the spinning 'loading' icon than actually doing anything.
This has been a problem since Home began. What's stopping them from fixing it? I don't get it.
Same goes for loading inventory items. You have to wait an age before your items appear - even if all you have is the default camera and bubble machine - and once they do, selecting one results in yet another lingering loading pause.
And what's up with the camera? Take a photo and you have to wait upwards of a minute before you can take another. Is it really that difficult to write an image to the HDD? No it isn't. LittleBigPlanet does it in an instant.
Another problem that's been hanging around Home like an horrific stench since day one is texture pop-in. I approach someone only to be faced with a hollow-eyed, featureless flesh-coloured lump, like some kind of nightmarish doll from a serial killer's lair.
I, er, imagine. Then, suddenly, their face 'pops' in. Why bother spending money on a nice outfit if all people are going to see is a white smudge when they meet you?
And don't forget about the ghosts. Sometimes an avatar won't load at all, and the Home Square will be full of bizarre shimmering outlines, like that time my doctor gave me the wrong dose of heart medicine.
This is a service offered on the XMB of every new PS3. It shouldn't be like this. What if someone buys a PS3 and the first thing they load is Home? It's like going on a first date and seeing your partner turning up in a string vest covered in peri peri sauce stains. Your opinion will be forever ruined, even if they're a nice person.
If me, the world's biggest Home fan, thinks this, you know something just ain't right.
Images purporting to be concept art for an upcoming PlayStation Home revamp have been taken from a Sony survey and surfaced online. Maybe this hints at the beginning of a new Home experience?

Sony is hopeful that the Suggested Retail Price of PS3 may be due another drop at some point in the near future.
The console's 160GB model currently sells for £250, whilst the 320GB SKU carries a £285 tag.
And after Sonydropped the price of its PSP in the US last month, now SCEE UK boss Ray Maguire has hinted that the handheld's big brother might also be due a discount.
"PS3 has taken longer than PS2 to establish itself simply because of the cost of the product," he told the latest issue of OPM UK. "It's been a challenge for us to get the costs down over the years. The retail price has been more than we would have liked... Hopefully the price might still come down."
Maguire told OPM that PS3 has been built to be constantly "evolving" - which is "why we keep having upgrades".
Maguire added: "It gets adopted, then it gets redeveloped, so you keep on upgrading everything as you go along. I think that's part of its success and the longevity of it.
"I did think we were taking a big risk in PS3 by making it so heavy featured. As it turned out, I now think it was a stroke of genius, because it's given PS3 the ability to go on year after year."

[Austyn] is currently working on reverse engineering a PlayStation 3 SixAxis controller’s USB communications. You may be thinking that this has already been done but [Austyn] was unable to find useful source code so he’s started his own project called libopenaxis.
The process he used to sniff out USB communications makes for an interesting read. He utilized GlovePIE to get the USB request block for the controller. With that in hand he grabbed the Python script used in a DIY Kinect hacking tutorial to start dumping controller data. With each keypress the script reads out the full data packet, which is used to figure out how the data structures are organized.
The project has come as far as knowing all of the data types, but right now the purpose for the majority of those variables is unknown. Hopefully the blanks will be filled in over time. Two things are for sure; if you’re interested in writing Python code that can communicate with PS3 controllers this is a great source of info, and the Kinect hacking that was so fun to watch over the last few months is still bearing fruit.

News via http://ps3.gx-mod.com/modules/news/a...p?storyid=2666
While the class action against the removal of otheros has virtually failed, we learned today that amended complaint was filed.
In the complaint it was learned that the deletion of otheros be due to a financial problem and not a safety issue. And the reason is that IBM was not happy that the army uses PS3 instead of IBM Blade Server.
Citation :
159. SCEA suggested initially that the removal of the "Other OS" function from the "fat" models in April 2010 was for security and intellectual property reasons.
160. On its website, SCEA wrote: Why did you delete the "Other OS" feature?
A. To protect the intellectual property of the content offered on the PS3 system as well as to provide a more secure system for those users who are enjoying games and other entertainment content on the PS3 system, we have decided to delete the feature to address security vulnerabilities of the system.
161. This statement is a fabrication. SCEA gave these reasons as a pretext so that it could attempt to argue that the Warranty, SSLA, and/or TOS allowed for the removal of the "Other OS" feature. In reality, SCEI and SCEA removed this feature because it was expensive to maintain (as they previously admitted when the feature was removed from the "slim" models – but which they conveniently removed from SCEA's website); they were losing money on every PS3 unit sold (due to poor decisions in the planning and design of the Cell chip as noted above and given the PS3's extra features); SCEA needed to promote and sell games to make their money back on the loss-leading PS3 consoles (and there was no profit in users utilizing the computer functions of the PS3); and IBM wanted to sell its expensive servers utilizing the Cell processor (users could cluster PS3s for the same purposes much less expensively).

In addition to its ongoing courtroom campaign to thwart hackers, Sony hasn't given up trying to patch its PlayStation 3 problems with another (everybody now!) firmware update! This time, it's not just a security update: For the PlayStation Plus subscribers out there, firmware 3.60 includes the nifty cloud-based save service (demoed on video after the break) while non PS+ users can enjoy setting "the amount of time before a controller turns off after you have stopped using it."
As for those glaring security holes? Noted PS3 hacker Youness Alaoui (aka KaKaRoToKS) posits, "For now, it looks to me (at first glance) that the PS3 has been re-secured, but it doesn't mean it can't be broken again from scratch." DigitalFoundry explains that while Geohot's reveal of the "mtldr" key irrevocably broke the PS3's "chain of trust," Sony's solution effortlessly sidesteps this seemingly insurmountable breach: "According to Alaoui's quick analysis, Sony simply doesn't use mtldr any more, opting for a new security system that could possibly require a completely new exploit to be uncovered."
Even money says someone somewhere will uncover that exploit, but for now, it sounds like Sony can breathe a sigh of relief.

UK trade site MCV reports that "sources" have told them that NGP "development deadlines have been set to ensure key Western releases are finished before the end of the summer for deployment in the autumn." And if you thought "sources" was vague, try "online leaks" which, according to MCV, " suggest the console will launch on Friday, November 11th." That's awfully specific, no?
Speaking with Engadget, SCEA's Jack Tretton already said that while Sony's desire might be for "a worldwide simultaneous launch," a more realistic goal would be to "get at least one territory out by the end of holiday 2011." If NGP only came to one territory this year, Japan would be the obvious choice; however, MCV's sources would indicate otherwise, with the site writing, "third party licensees insist that NGP will arrive in Europe this year."
Regardless of Sony's plans, a lot could happen between now and the end of the year.

Ape Escape for PlayStation 3 launches in Europe this June, Sony has announced.
The Sony Japan Studio game is a family-friendly, colourful adventure that fully supports the PlayStation Move controller.
The Ape Escape series began with the 1999 PSone title. The PS3 game, which launched in Japan as Ape Escape On The Move last year, includes 15 stages and stars evil primate leader, Specter.
The Move controller is used as a gadget, such as the Monkey Net, Slingshot and Smasher, to help catch monkeys. You can "bash off" apes in Chase battle or attack and defend simultaneously to prevent monkeys from grabbing your bananas in Capture battles.
There are also three mini-games, unlocked as you play through story mode.

Court lifts LG’s injunction against Sony for now as firm is ordered to pay legal fees
The patent disagreement between LG and Sony has been lifted – freeing 300,000 stranded PS3s in Holland.
Last month LG was granted a preliminary injunction against Sony for an infringement on Blu-ray technology, but now InsideGamer is reporting this has been lifted.
The injunction resulted in 300,000 PS3s being held by authorities, with many seized at the ports of Rotterdam and Schiphol.
All PS3s will now be released and there will be no more seizures, reports Eurogamer. LG has allegedly been slapped with an order to pay all €130,000 of Sony's legal fees. For each day it fails to do so, it will be fined a further €200,000.
FOSS Patents owner and IP activist Florian Mueller said: “If this is true, it is only related to the prejudgment seizure order.
“This means Sony can resume the distribution of PlayStations across Europe for now, but there will be a full-fledged legal proceeding to determine whether there is an infringement – and if so, how much Sony owes LG for it.”
