New from Ponlork
Hey young world, Ponlork here with a brand new release of my Learn Japanese app. This version is signed so it should work on all PSPs. I've added Katakana support, 3 new stages, plus the ability to save! Clearing all the stages will access a ending. I've also included more audio and a lot of other surprises as well. Hiragana & Katakana mode only works on PSP 1000 & 2000 models, I couldn't get the 日本語 text to display on a PSPGo so you'll have to make do with romaji for now. I'll get it resolved in my next release. This program Uses intraFont by BenHur and LuaPlayer Euphoria V8 by Zack. Thanks to everybody for all the support, suggestions, feedback and corrections. I wanted to give shout outs but it's been a while and I kinda forgot a lot of names. Gomen Nasai.

[source: Dukio @ ps3crunch.com] I am not sure who is responsible for the removal of graf’s git in git.dukio.com before this, whether it is from Sony or graf himself. But now, we can see that the git is back with bunch of updates coming along from our respected man, graf_chokolo who proved to be dangerous even after Sony mobbed his apartment and raid his PC and of course his PS3 consoles. You can read below, what’s new in his version of Linux kernel for PS3.

The PSP Genesis Competition continues to produce material involved. This time is the French developer UnlimitedX to put meat on the fire with his Kingdom of War . Based on the amateur version of the PSP MMORPG Warcraft , this new online RPG is proposed as an alternative to it. At the moment the game is still in the early stages of development, has many bugs and the only dedicated server is always active. The hope is that it can reap a sufficient number of successes that warrants the opening of new servers.
Meanwhile, the developer provides us with what has been achieved so far, with a beta version playable (in French) so as to get an idea of the product.

News via http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/foren...dispute-82276/
In the latest round of Sony vs. Geohot legal wrangling, court documents obtained by PSX-SCENE reveal that there is now a dispute as to how Geohot's hard drives are being handled by TIG, the third-party company designated to analyze them.
The original court order only called for the drive(s) to be delivered to a third party "for the purpose of isolating, segregating and/or removing the information on those devices related to Defendant Hotz's circumvention of the TPMs in the PS3 system."
Now the company doing the analysis wants to create TWO FULL IMAGES of the drive(s), in both decrypted and encrypted form!!! According to Geohot's attorneys, "SCEA is not entitled to inspect the impounded drives under the impoundment order, nor is it allowed to create and preserve additional copies of the impounded drives, but this is precisely what it seeks to do."
SCEA, of course, is demanding that this fast one be allowed.
Quote:
For the foregoing reasons, SCEA requests that the Court order that Mr. Hotz comply with TIG‟s recommended impoundment protocols and that those protocols be supplemented to ensure that preservation requirements are met as follows:
(1) TIG create and preserve two forensically sound images (e.g., bit stream images) of each impounded storage device in its encrypted form: One to be maintained by TIG in a secure vault for preservation purposes and the second to be used for decryption and/or any other necessary analysis by TIG;
(2) TIG create and preserve two forensically sound images (e.g., bit stream images) of each impounded storage device in its un-encrypted form. One to be maintained by TIG in a secure vault for preservation
purposes and the second to be used for TIG‟s necessary analysis; and
(3) TIG maintain and preserve all of the forensically created images for the duration of the lawsuit.
SCEA further requests that the Court order Mr. Hotz to: (a) provide TIG with the tools and keys necessary to decrypt the impounded storage devices and the keys and passwords necessary to decrypt or unlock any protected files contained on the impounded storage devices;
(b) identify for TIG all virtual machines or hard disks stored or at any time run on the impounded storage devices.3 Furthermore, to verify compliance with the impoundment order, SCEA requests that the Court order Mr. Hotz to provide a declaration setting forth: (i) verification that all storage devices on which any circumvention devices or any information relating to Mr. Hotz‟s circumvention of the technological protection measures in the PS3 System are stored have been delivered to TIG; (ii) why the storage device used by Mr. Hotz in the January 7, 2011 YouTube video entitled “Jailbroken PS3 3.55 with Homebrew” was not delivered to TIG for impoundment; and (iii) the identity of any remote storage of the circumvention devices or any information relating to Mr. Hotz‟s circumvention of the technological protection measures in the PS3 System.4 Finally, SCEA seeks fees and costs in relation to this motion.

Just giving you guys a quick hint on the progress, the Recovery Menu is now complete and features most of the features you guys are used to from M33 CFWs.
You can disable / enable Plugins, apply Registry Hacks and change several settings about PSP behaviour.
We are trying to increase the compatiblity with wanted plugins, like the newly released 6.35 Category Plugin right now (ISO Listing Code and Plugin bite…).
In response to the comments on this blogpost…
Concerning PSX Game Compatiblity, you guys should try repacking your Images using Special Game IDs for your discs!
For example: Using the Syphon Filter 3 Game ID (SCUS94640), as discovered by Jinx a long time ago for 3.X based CFWs, fixes Chrono Cross and makes it 100% runable on 6.35 PRO-B.

We're all familiar with this handset by now, but what we weren't suspecting (although we have yet to finish our first cup of coffee) to see a GSM version of the Xperia Play come through the FCC this sunny Tuesday morning. While we know that Verizon won't be the sole carrier of the phone in the states (we heard that from Sony Ericsson CTO Jan Uddenfeldt himself), there is yet to be another carrier confirmed. So maybe this is an indication of another possible future? Or, most likely, this is just one of those "north of the border" jobs -- as you know, the FCC gets its look at all Canada-bound phones, and this particular phone is exclusive to Rogers. Get a closer look after the break.
Update: Further examination of the docs reveal that this bad boy has global GSM bands and 900 / 2100MHz 3G, which is primarily used in Europe and Asia.

Absolutely nobody will ever believe you have a 3D telly unless you can show them 3D content - they'll call you a liar and push you over.
Thank god then that Sony sympathises; cue 3D dynamic themes for PlayStation 3.
The very first of these, a theme for PixelJunk Shooter 2, can be bought by Japanese people now, according PSN Stores.
Yes your Western money is useless, at least until tomorrow when the EU PlayStation Store cupboards are restocked. Note, however, that a 3D PixelJunk Shooter 2 dynamic theme might not arrive tomorrow, but there's a good chance of it.
There's no word on the price of these new 3D themes.
PixelJunk Shooter 2, you say? Eurogamer reviewed that this morning, awarding 7/10.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Home client has been downloaded 19 million times since launch.
According to Home director Jack Buser, the average Home session lasts for 70 minutes. He reckons that's down to people playing the games you can access within the service, of which there are now around 230.
Virtual items are also proving popular, said Buser. Last year the number of items available grew by 110 per cent.
The 19 million figure refers to instances of Home being downloaded and booted up at least once. When asked how many active users the service has, Buser declined to comment - saying that figure is available, but only to developers who have signed a non-disclosure agreement.
However, he did say that as an indication, 1.6 million users played the racing game Sodium within six weeks of release, in North America alone.

Skyhook Wireless has announced that their technology will be used in Sony's forthcoming NGP console, allowing the device to track its geographical location for use in games and other apps.
The technology uses a combination of Wi-Fi, GPS and mobile phone tower triangulation to pinpoint a device's location as accurately as possible.
No specific applications have yet been announced, but Skyhook's software is already used by Facebook and Foursquare to personalise content. The technology can also be used with regional leaderboards, finding nearby players with the same games, or enabling localised content.
'The launch of NGP is the latest in a long line of innovations over the past years that demonstrate how the PlayStation brand continues to push the game industry forward,' said Masaaki Turuta chief technology officer of Sony Computer Entertainment.
'Precise location information is increasingly central to the portable entertainment experience. Skyhook's Core Engine will provide NGP with superior location capabilities,' he added.
Although Skyhook's technology makes use of the NGP's 3G functionality, Nintendo has again queried its use and suggested that it will only split the portable console's potential userbase.
Speaking to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, as translated by website Andriasang, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the fees required for 3G would be prohibitive to many potential users.
Sony has already confirmed that both 3G and non-3G versions of the NGP will be released, the latter at a lower price point.
In the same interview Iwata also commented on the increased competition from Apple's iOS platforms, saying: 'We're at a period where it will be difficult to keep the value of our content if we are unable to offer experiences that can't be had on smartphones.'

Sony hopes it can upgrade social network Home into full-on multiplayer social game platform with the release of the core client version 1.5.
Announced today at GDC in San Francisco, the upgrade is focused on three key areas - graphics engine, the core physics engine and real-time multiplayer gaming.
According to Sony, Home has been downloaded and activated 19 million times since launch, with users spending an average of 70 minutes per session online.
"Developers will be able to take full advantage of the improved network mechanics to create fast-action multiplayer experiences such as online racing games and first person shooters within PlayStation Home," said the company.
"Also included in the update to version 1.5 is a revamped physics engine, providing developers with augmented control over collision, mass, velocity and other physics elements, for an even greater level of realism and more intricate gameplay experiences."
Sony claims the upgrade has been designed specifically with game developers in mind, with version 1.5 launching this spring.
The showcase game for the new client is future racing title Sodium Two from Lockwood Publishing. The majority of games are based on a freemium model - last year virtual items grew 110 per cent in Home.
People using Home actively are the hardcore user base, according to home boss Jack Buser, buying and playing more than any other PlayStation 3 users. Over 8000 virtual items have been released on Home, with items that improve gameplay selling significantly more than cosmetic upgrades, he said.

Does anybody remember Crystal Dynamics’ cult third-person action adventure title, Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver? Some of you. Well as of tomorrow you’ll be able to revisit the PSone classic as it launches for £7.99 on the European PlayStation Store. For those unfamiliar with the title, it’s pretty moody. If moody is your cup of tea, then step right ahead.
- - -
Alternatively, you can pick it up used on the likes of Amazon and eBay for little as £3, which is fully backwards compatible with both the PS2 and PS3 (not the PS Store download).

Customs officials within the European Union are reportedly confiscating imports of PlayStation 3 consoles, according to an unconfirmed report.
The U.K.'s The Guardian newspaper reported Monday that customs officials had seized shipments of the PlayStation 3 consoles in response to an ongoing patent dispute between LG and Sony.
The seizures amount to a quarantine, however, as the imports are being held for ten days. "Tens of thousands of PS3s were seized by customs officers last week in the Netherlands," the Guardian reported. So far, Sony and LG officials have not provided official comment or confirmation, and the EU has not posted any official confirmation on its Web site. Within the United States, LG and Sony have engaged in an ongoing patent dispute. Sony has claimed that LG's phones infringe its patents; LG, in response, has said that the Blu-ray drives used within the PlayStation 3 infringe its own technology. LG reportedly asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to block the sale of PlayStation 3s and Bravia televisions within the United States.
LG's suit can be seen as a response to one Sony filed in late December; in it, Sony claimed that several LG phones infringe Sony's patents. They include the LG Quantum, the new Windows Phone 7 device available on AT&T, as well as the Cosmos, Accolade, Encore, enV Touch, Fathom, Glance, GU295, Lotus Elite, LX370, Neon, Remarq, Rumor Touch, VL600, Vu Plus, and Xenon. Sony said it wants the ITC or the court to stop LG from importing, selling, marketing, advertising, or demonstrating the infringing devices in the U.S., the same request that LG made of the agency. Meanwhile, Sony is attempting to tamp down the actions of George Hotz. Hotz hacked the Sony PS3 and posted his circumvention technique on his Web site, as well as links for others to do the same. Under the order, he is banned from posting or distributing those links or information about his hacking techniques. He must also turn over computers, hard drives, CD-roms, DVDs, USB sticks, or any other storage devices on which the circumvention devices are stored.
Hotz is contesting the suit.

Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection launches in Europe and PAL territories on 22nd April, Square Enix has announced.
The PlayStation Portable game releases as a Special Edition, which includes Art Cards and a screen-cleaning cloth decorated with Cecil character design in a fold-out presentation box. It also includes downloadable content for upcoming PSP game Dissidia 012[duodecim] Final Fantasy.
The Complete Collection unifies the characters and storylines from Final Fantasy IV and sequel The After Years into one game. There's an all-new scenario that links the two, enhanced visuals, a Gallery Mode and CG movies and illustrations.
It also features new 2D graphics designed for the PSP's 16x9 format, and a new soundtrack arrangement.
Final Fantasy IV first launched in 1991 for the Super Nintendo. It stars Cecil, a dark knight who embarks on a quest for redemption. The After Years launched in 2008 as a Japan-only mobile phone game.

News via http://ps3.gx-mod.com/modules/news/a...p?storyid=2641
In early February, we informed you of a case between the manufacturers LG and Sony, the first striker for the second patent infringement on the Blu Ray and PS3 consoles calling for the withdrawal on American soil. What we did not know is that the legal fight is also about Europe and that first decision in favor of LG was taken to the Court of Justice in The Hague. For at least 10 days, shipments of Playstation 3 in the direction of Europe and the United Kingdom will therefore be systematically confiscated at the border by customs and stored until a final decision by the court.
While LG is pushing for the outright destruction of consoles, Sony is doing its best to lift the ban. Subsequent events will also determine if Sony compensation to LG for each PlayStation 3 sold to date. Finally point out that the player side, the shortage of PlayStation 3 should not be felt in so far as the signs (at least the larger) generally have enough inventory to cover 2 to 3 weeks in advance. Stay tuned ...

You might remember Warcraft PSP, an ambitious project aiming at providing a free MMORPG experience to PSP players. The project is still alive, and comes back freshened up for the psp genesis competition with a new name, free of any legally dangerous reference. Kingdom of War is still work in progress, but an already playable online game. The server might not be up when you join a game, in that case, wait a few hours and try again. If the game becomes as successful as CSPSP, we’ll probably see more servers in no time
For now the game is only available in French, but it is not too hard to understand, and UnlimitedX says he’s working on an English version.
