George 'Geohot' Hotz, the hacker behind the well-publicised PlayStation 3 security breach earlier this year, has scarpered to South America rather than go toe-to-toe with Sony's lawyers, according to the disgruntled platform holder.
Court documents filed by Sony and dug up by VGHQclaim that Geohot has been deliberately non-compliant with demands to present various devices for inspection, and has now turned tail and fled the country.
"Though the evidence establishing personal jurisdiction is already overwhelming, SCEA has little doubt that there is much more," read Sony's complaint.
"However, over the last several weeks. Hotz has engaged in a campaign to thwart jurisdictional discovery at every turn – regardless of whether the Court has ordered such discovery or not.
"Most seriously, after Magistrate Judge Spero ordered an inspection of Hotz's devices and ordered Hotz to appear at a deposition in California, SCEA learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and that Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral.
"Hotz's attempts to dodge this Court's authority raise very serious questions."
It's safe to say things are looking decidedly dicey for poor old George. Sony is now also claiming that he lied to the court about having a PlayStation Network account.
"Hotz identified four PS3 Systems in his possession. He explained that he had purchased one of these consoles new in February 2010 and provided the serial number for that console. SCEA used that serial number to determine that on February 25, 2010, Hotz purchased the PS3 System at a Gamestop store just miles from his home.
"SCEA's records show that the same PS3 System was used on March 10, 2010 to create a PSN account under the user name 'blickmanic.' The IP address associated with the registration is located in Glen Rock, New Jersey, where Hotz lives."

Lavalit have released a new SVN build of Openbor for the Dreamcast, Wii, Wiz, GP2X, Dingoo, PC, Linux and PSP
OpenBOR
----------------------
OpenBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game engine, which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
History
----------------------
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Heres whats new:
r3288 | sumolx | 2011-03-23 01:05:37 -0400 (Wed, 23 Mar 2011) | 1 line
Changed paths:
M /engine/build.sh
M /engine/resources/Info.plist
M /engine/resources/meta.xml
M /engine/version.h
Darwin port is now a mandatory port for the server to build.

News via http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/03/22/...1-60-released/
Good times ahead when you can simply cheat your way through the tough ones — raing3′s freshly updated TempAR — for all your [offline] game cheating needs. It’s a plugin: you download it, activate it (in game.txt and/or pops.txt) and cheat using CWCHEAT and Action Replay codes.
Install notes for 6.31/6.35/6.36 PRO users: Rename the “seplugins” directory to “plugins” and copy that to your memory stick. You’ll also be activating “tempar_lite.prx” in game.txt.
In-Game Controls
- Show cheat menu: Press home twice followed by VOLUP+VOLDOWN
- Enable Cheat Engine: Press Note
- Screenshot: Press SELECT+VOLDOWN
TempAR v1.60 CHANGELOG
- [+] Added better support for homebrew, now uses unique Game IDs which are the same as those generated by CWCheat. Big thanks to HARO for the help.
- [+] Single select folders are now supported.
- [+] Rewrote search function, now it is much faster (average 100x faster) and has less wear on the memory stick.
- [+] Added option to change how many search results can be found before the search is terminated. Using the default
will cause TempAR to find all results. - [+] Can now save cheats. Cheats are saved to an individual file in ms0:/seplugins/TempAR/cheats/{game-id}.db. You can load these cheats by selecting the appropriate load cheat file options.
- [+] Added cheat delete function.
- [+] Pressing triangle on a cheat now shows a menu which allows the user to edit, rename, delete or copy the cheat.
- [+] All loaded search results can now be added with a single click.
- [+] Added support for custom 8×8 fonts. If you wish to use a custom font place it at ms0:/seplugins/TempAR/font.bin.
- [+] Added a text viewer. The text viewer can be triggered by going to the last tab. If a text file exists at ms0:/
seplugins/TempAR/text/{game-id}.txt it will be loaded. - [+] Added support for FreeCheat patch files. Only one patch file can be used per game and should be placed in ms0:/seplugins/TempAR/patch/{game-id}.pat. Then select “Load Memory Patch” from the PRX tab.
- [!] Menu display key no longer interferes with menu options.
- [!] Copy cheat now actually copies the code lines instead of just the code name.
- [?] Due to internal changes the config.bin files must be deleted if they exist. If they are not deleted there may be issues using the disassembler and browser functions.
- [?] Renamed POPS version to lite as it now works in game mode as well, not just POPS. The only difference the lite version has to the normal version is lack of USB support.
- [?] Optimized the source, reduced uncompressed PRX size by ~25KB

While even tho Graf_Chokolo been sent to the cleaners by Sony with them taking his PC and PS3 by force using the German police, and now being face with spending thousands in fighting their lawyers, he still been working in the background releasing new PS3 information to the public on his website blog!
which would allow you to use your PS3's hard drive in any other PS3 console.

It means you could swap your internal HDD and use it on another PS3. But you have to restore the content on it after disabling encryption because all data will be encrypted of course.
Soon i will implement ENCDEC device driver for PS3 Linux and you will be able to experiment with ATA encryption. ENCDEC device is responsible for VFLASH/HDD encryption on PS3.
For more details, see my HV page here: Main Page - PS3 Development Wiki
And thanks to PS3 Linux fans who help me to test my ps3dm-utils Huge thanks to you guys. I can have fun with PS3 even without having one actually!
If you dare enough to jump from being a noobie to a PS3 developer, take a look at his amazing GIT and follow his decrypting logic and you make be able to make your PS3 accept any HDD without re-formatting!
ps3dm-utils GIT repository: git://git.dukio.com/ps3dm-utils.git
linux hv scripts GIT repository: git://git.dukio.com/linux_hv_scripts.git
But remember if you are successful in flipping the switch OFF, you PS3 will ask still to reformat your existing HDD as all previously stored data on it was ENCRYPTED, but this still will be useful to have for those that own more then one PS3 and wish to swap HDD's between the two without going thru the pain of backing-up, reformatting, restoring each time, but again before ANY ONE ASKS, NO THIS WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO SWAP HDD'S BETWEEN A CFW AND OFW (stock/original) PS3, for like PSN access!

Developer KaKaRoTo has released a very much improved plugin for using IDA Pro in working with the internal PS3 files like .self/.sprx modules!
Quote:
It’s been a while since my last post! A lot has been happening lately, I’ve mostly kept my followers updated on what’s new through my Twitter account, but I think that this deserves a post of its own!
I’ve been reversing some PPC code in IDA and unfortunately, it doesn’t handle the PS3 files very well, so I wrote a lot of scripts in order to make it parse the files properly! There was one thing missing though that I couldn’t do with an .idc script : handling of jump tables.
Yesterday, I took on the task of writing an IDA plugin in order to parse the ppc code and find jump tables and define them in IDA’s kernel so the analysis is done properly! It was a very fun and exciting challenge that I enjoyed doing, and I’m happy to say that I succeeded and it works very well (on the files I tried anyways).
The IDA API is extensive and easy to use, and allows you to do pretty much anything! I also found the IDA Pro Book to be extremely well written and very useful! I would suggest to anyone who likes tinkering to try and write an IDA plugin, because it was a challenging but fun experience!
I initially wrote the plugin thinking that the jump table instruction patterns was always the same, but when I started testing, I found out that some instructions could have a different order, there might be inserted instructions in the middle of the pattern, or different registers being used, etc.. so I eventually had to rewrite my plugin and ended up using a class that comes from IDA’s SDK which takes care of “instruction rescheduling” and “intermingling of the jump sequence with other instructions”, at least I learned from my first try and it made my second try a lot easier. I also realized that I haven’t done any C++ in maybe 5 or 6 years, and I really forgot all about how to write C++ code. It was a bit embarassing to google “how to derive from a class in C++”, lol!
Anyways, I am now releasing my scripts and my PPCJT plugin for IDA under a new project : PS3IDA.
I’ve created the ps3ida repository on git-hacks.com (Thanks again to @dashhacks for providing us with this safe haven for all our legal tools). The repository contains many files, I suggest you read the README file for a description of each, but the most important ones are analyze_self.idc and analyze_sprx.idc. I’ve also ported my lv2_dump_analyzer.idc script to work with IDA 6.0.
There are two plugins in ps3ida, the first one is the well known PPCAltivec released by xorloser, I’ve decided to add it to the project so the source code stays available for anyone who needs it. I also slightly modified the source code so it compiles correctly on Linux using gcc 4.x. The second plugin is PPCJT that I wrote yesterday, it will find jump tables and define them in IDA’s kernel so the functions get properly analyzed. Just install it, and when you see a switch/case in the code, put the cursor on the ‘bctr’ instruction and press ‘C’ so it can parse the jump sequence and fix it, or just go to ”Options->General->Analysis->Reanalyze program” and it will fix them for all the file.
I have built the PPCJT plugin for Windows and Linux for IDA v6.0, you can download it here.
My personal suggestion, since IDA could screw up the analysis in its initial run, would be to completely undefine the file (Ctrl-PageUp + Alt-L + Ctrl-PageDown + U), then run the analyze_self.idc or analyze_sprx.idc.. it will take some time, but then you’ll get a beautiful file loaded Especially with the correctly named imports, this should help a lot any reverse engineer out there!
P.S: If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then this is not for you, this does not lead to any ‘CFW’ or jailbreaking of 3.60 or whatever else you might hope for… so don’t come here and post stupid and/or irrelevant questions of that kind… please do not comment if you’re not a user of IDA or if you don’t know what IDA is or if you don’t have anything constructive to say.
Off-Site Download Link --> PPCJT v0.1 for IDA v6.0.
Enjoy!
KaKaRoTo
Please re-read the RED P.S. above again, as basically it will tell you that this is ONLY useful for developers to hopefully gain more knowledge on how the PS3 works internally which might lead to more open doors!

PS3 is the best console in the world, and no other publisher can match Sony's group of internal studios.
That's according to Heavy Rain creator David Cage, who says Quantic Dream won't be creating any games for Xbox again any time soon.
Quantic's previous biggest title, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in the US), was available on PC and Xbox - and has been reissued by Microsoft as an Xbox Original on 360.
Although Quantic is independent, Sony part-funded the creation of Heavy Rain and bankrolled its marketing, something for which the platform holder has earned Cage's long-term loyalty.
"The relationship on Heavy Rain has been fantastic," Cage told CVG. "They trusted us from day one, supported us all the way through. It was really a very risky project [for them] and they never let us down.
"Being a part of a company with what are probably the best studios in the world is something really pleasant for us. We're happy to continue this relationship and create content for the PlayStation brand. But they fund our projects, so we're staying exclusive to PlayStation.
"I am very loyal in general - or I try to be. I know that trusting me is always a big risk and when people do, I feel like I owe them something. It's not just because I want to thank them, though. We have a relationship that works, we're excited by the platform - we think it's the best platform out there. We're glad to continue to work this way."
Although Cage wouldn't confirm that Quantic shared tech with Sony's internal studios, he said that regular conversations took place.
"We talk to Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerrilla, Media Molecule - all these great studios," he added. "We talk about technology, best practice, how we do things - we share experience and expertise. I think that's of real value for everybody."
Cage even revealed that he'd been asked to advise on a modern PS3 FPS title. All he'd tell us is that it "isn't Killzone 3".
Heavy Rain picked up three BAFTA gongs last week, for Story, Technical Innovation and Original Score.
Cage told us at GDC that he plans to create an "emotional" war game, borrowing elements from Platoon and Apocalypse Now.

Action title Backstab to be exclusive to the PlayStation Phone for one month before heading to iOS
In the first announcement of its kind, mobile games publisher Gameloft has revealed a new game that will be exclusive to Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play for a limited time.
Called Backstab, the initial imagery released stirs up memories of titles like Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia.
It will be a PlayStation Phone only game for one month before hitting other mobile platforms like iOS.
Pocket Gamer reports that the title, which is set in the 18th century, sees players assume the role of Henry Blake. It will be a free-roaming action affair with a heavy emphasis on swordplay.

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/03/22/b...s-compo-entry/
It seems we’re seeing a trend over musical applications in the genesis compo, as shown by this new entry, Beatbox, a drum sampler by babkock. quoting the author: “Beatbox is a drum machine for the PSP. There are four sound sets: rock and roll drums, hip hop drums, bongo drums, and tones. Beatbox is fun to jam along freely, or to play along with your favorite songs using the built-in music player.”
This new version adds the following changes:
- Added in-game music player – uses Music PRX by joek2100
- Added metronome
- Able to disable HUD
- Fixed sound bug
- Fixed color scheme bug
- Added competition splash screen
