Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters carded best ever week one US sales for EA's 14-year-old golf franchise, the publisher has announced.
According to internal estimates, the latest entry in the annual series shifted approximately 225,000 units in the seven days following its 29th March launch – up 17 per cent on previous best Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.
On top of that, week one console digital revenue was up by a whopping 200 per cent. Given theridiculously long list of add-ons available from launch, that's perhaps not much of a surprise.
"We expected fans to be excited about the Masters and for sales to be up significantly. We're pleased that they are," commented EA Sports boss Peter Moore.
"Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters has earned rave reviews, and fans have played nearly two million rounds at Augusta National Golf Club during the first two weeks."
EA boasted a few other gameplay stats too. Seven million games have now been played in total on all courses. On consoles, the equivalent of 2,515 PGA Tour seasons have been completed in online tournaments.
Over 184 million golf shots have been taken, 1.5 million achievements and trophies unlocked, and 12 million course mastery objectives completed.

L.A. Noire, Rockstar's forthcoming crime epic, features over five hours of cutscenes, according to a British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) listing.
The post, as spotted by PlayStation Universe, states that the game has a total of five hours and 12 minutes of cinematics, as well as three hours and 25 minutes of "supplementary gameplay footage".
Last month, Rockstar suggested that the game's core single player campaign would take between 25 and 30 hours to complete.
Bad news kids: the BBFC has slapped an 18 certificate on the game. Apparently it "contains very strong language, strong violence, sex references and nudity" but no cuts have been requested.

Dead Rising star Frank West is finally coming to the PlayStation 3 after five years of Xbox 360 exclusivity – and Off the Record developer Capcom Vancouver predicts Sony fans will welcome him with open arms.
Dead Rising launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 in 2006. Dead Rising 2 launched across multiple platforms, but features motocross champion Chuck Greene instead. Downloadable add-on Case West launched, like prequel Case Zero, exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade.
All of which means Off the Record, which re-imagines Dead Rising 2 with fan favourite Frank West in the starring role, provides PlayStation 3 owners with their first opportunity to play as the quick witted photojournalist.
"It's fantastic," Capcom Vancouver co-founder Jason Leigh said of the move at Capcom's Captivate event last week. "If you're a Sony fan and you've got a PlayStation 3 and not a 360, you haven't had an opportunity at this point to play as Frank West.
"Perhaps you bought Dead Rising 2 and you've played the game as Chuck Greene, but that experience is very, very different. This isn't just a character swap and we're done. This is a very different story and a very different experience.
It's really exciting for PS3 fans and they're going to get an awesome game. I can't wait to see what the reaction is from those fans around the character and the story. They will really embrace Frank."
In September last year Capcom denied it was "alienating" PS3-owning Dead Rising fans following the announcement of Xbox Live-exclusive downloadable game Dead Rising 2: Case West.
Following Case West's Tokyo Game Show reveal PS3 gamers complained that they were being denied the beginning and end of the upcoming zombie kill-em-up.
"I think Inafune [Keiji, then head of global R&D] said that we're sorry that it seems like you're getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you'll still be able to enjoy the full game," insisted co-producer Shinsaku Ohara in an interview with Eurogamer.

"You'll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven't completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product."
Inafune had previously explained the Xbox 360 exclusivity of Dead Rising 2's downloadable games. "Dead Rising was our very first Xbox 360 title and Microsoft supported the title all the way," Ohara said.
"At the beginning we didn't know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one. So it's like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans."
While PS3 owners now have the opportunity to play as Frank West, he is a different beast than he was in the first game – and even Case West.
Dead Rising 2 is due out on Friday. Expect Eurogamer's review on the same day.
"Frank after the Willamette incident in Dead Rising became famous," Leigh explained to Eurogamer. "He managed to break the story, so he had a successful book and a talk show. He let the fame go to his head and let himself go and gained a little bit of weight.
"Here we are several years later and he's coming to Fortune City, and he's trying to resurrect his career. He's trying to get on TV, make a name for himself again. You're going to see how that plays out in the story."

Activision's Dan Winters has told GamesIndustry.biz that the Guitar Hero franchise is not necessarily dead, merely "on hiatus" for now.
Speaking as part of a larger interview to be published later this week, Winters revealed that the game could still see a return to the shelves, as long as the publisher sees an opportunity for it to succeed.
"Actually, just to clarify, we're just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we're not ending it," Winters explained. "We're releasing products out of the vault - we'll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won't go away. We're just not making a new one for next year, that's all."

Guitar Hero was originally culled as part of the cuts whichActivision enacted in February in an attempt to concentrate business on a number of 'tentpole' titles. 500 jobs were also shed during that process.
Previously, Activision had issued a statement announcing that the business unit handling Guitar Hero would be disbanded. "Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011," a press release read.
At its peak Guitar Hero was one of Activision's most bankable franchises, in part due to the high price of games bundled with plastic controllers. But a quick succession of sequels and spin-offs saw the series suffer from fatigue in the fickle console market.
As part of the same interview, Winters also revealed that he believes that another axed title, True Crime: Hong Kong, would have been a relatively high-scoring game, but would not have presented an adequate commercial opportunity for the publisher, as the presence of games like Red Dead Redemption make the genre too competitive.
"We think that the game was tracking to be a very good game," Winters said. "The question was really the size of the prize based on how good it could be. We are confident that thing would have been eighty plus. Eighty five maybe. They're a really talented group at United Front.
"We were really confident that they were tracking towards a very good game. The challenges in the market place right now, when you're talking about open-world games that are going to compete with titles like Red Dead Redemption, expectations for the consumer are really high.
"That would have been, and still might end up being, a very successful mid-tier opportunity for someone. But, as I said, we changed our business model to where we were going to change our business model to focus disproportionately on three big, huge monsters. Those three monsters are the Bungie, Call of Duty and Spyro titles.
"So that left the True Crime title being a mid-tier opportunity which we felt was an opportunity cost against other things. But we have a lot of confidence in the quality of the studio and the quality of the title, just not in the scale of the opportunity."
Those sentiments seem to conflict slightly with the thoughts of Eric Hirschberg, who was quoted as telling an investor call that the game "just wasn't going to be good enough."

Dev failbit joins the PSP Genesis competition with a nice card game with an AI. I assume that if you’ve ever been a student, the rules won’t be too difficult for you to grasp, but assuming you managed to spend your entire life without playing any other card game than Magic (who said “nerd” ?), here’s a little help on the rules.

This will accelerate h264 (Up to level 4.2) and MPEG2 video decoding so it can play up to 1080p content. New versions of Showtime are available for download here. If you want to make sure that the Cell acceleration is actually used you can press L3 during video playback to see the status window. Make sure that the video codec mentions (Cell) at the end of the row. Just like in this screenshot. You're welcome!

New project in competition at the PSP Genesis Competition is Minesweeper clone a minefield created by the developer Ryp. The homebrew comes with a clean graphics and offers the same type of customization of the original game (number of mines and grid size).

New release for iDrum , created by homebrew coder Benjamin999 that promises to bring the pieces on the basis of a PSP battery, giving the opportunity for percussionists to excellence wherever they may be able to strum. Version 2.0 improves the user interface and fixes some bugs also on the management of sounds.

Neur0n ResourceHidder updated plugin, originally created by Zer01one, making it compatible with custom firmware 6.2x - 6.3x. Once enabled ResourceHidder possible, depending on the settings entered in the configuration file RscHidder.txt, "hide" (or rather, not see) the ICON0. PNG, ICON1.PMF, PIC0.PNG, PIC1.PNG SND0.AT3 and UMD, the PBP file and saving it is also possible to hide the icon of the UMD firmware update from the dashboard.

SnyFbSx plugin updates its PSP Power Controller bringing it to version 3.2.
This module for custom firmware, once enabled, allows you to display some information about the status of the console, set the brightness level of the PSP and turn off automatically after a specified period of time and enables the convenient hot keys that allow, for example, Restart the console by pressing a key combination.
The archive also contains the source code of the plugin.

New version of Take the Ball game from the homebrew gameplay rather basic, but not simply created by our fede94boss . The goal is to be able to "stop" when a ball lies within a given frame of the screen.
The new v3.0 release adds four new levels by varying the order of the existing.

It's always healthy to take frequent breaks while playing through a first-person shooter to indulge in other, distinctly different kinds of shooting. If you purchase a specially-marked copy (or Full Deployment Edition) of SOCOM 4, then you should be all set -- Sony has announced that the game will include a voucher that will net you access to the public beta for Resistance 3.
The bundle's announcement on PlayStation Blog doesn't mention when said beta will kick off, but mentions that the voucher itself includes further details. We'll make sure we'll let you know when we get our hands on one of these golden tickets! At least, we assume that they're golden. If not ... well, then, what's the point?

Further evidence that the next add-on for Fallout: New Vegas will be called Honest Hearts has appeared.
Website Duck and Cover scooped three small screenshots from a private YouTube video that was, eventually, pulled wholesale from the internet.
The images show a man wearing pants and a crop-top (probably) and swinging a spiked club. He's aiming at another human, possibly a lady. Yes, this could be any Brit abroad. The images also offer a view of an expansive rocky vista and the Honest Hearts title screen.
The content apparently takes place in New Canaan.
Eurogamer was given "no comment" by Bethesda this afternoon.
Honest Hearts was one of the add-ons named last month by a source-powered report - the other name given was Old Bones.
"Honest Hearts", "Lonesome Road" and "Old World Blues" were trademarked by Bethesda in January.
Fallout: New Vegas' first add-on was called Dead Money. Eurogamer reviewer Dan Whitehead thought a 7/10 appropriate.
