[Luis] is very particular about his gaming controllers. He wanted to mod a Six Axis controller to fit into a Nerf gun body but there wasn’t really enough room for all of the components. After shopping around for a while he discovered a wired gun controller made by Namco which was developed for use with the game Time Crisis. He picked one up and went to work .
The majority of the work on a mod like this one comes in extending the reach of each component. After cracking open the gun controller’s case, [Luis] begins preparing and soldering all twenty contact on the Six Axis controller PCB, then completing the connections necessary for each relocated component. This does make us wonder if there won’t be some element of noise introduced to the signals coming from the analog sticks? He mentions that one of them is ‘glitchy’ but that could be because he started with a used controller from eBay.
We took a couple of good tips out of this. Since the plastic housing is designed to hold each of the original PCBs securely, [Luis] reused them as a mounting surface for the replacement components. A little creative use of protoboard and some time in the paint shop and you’re done. Check out a video of the entire process, which also shares the finished results, after the break.

Lavalit have released a new SVN build of Openbor for the Dreamcast, Wii, Wiz, GP2X, Dingoo, PC, Linux and PSP
OpenBOR
----------------------
OpenBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game engine, which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
History
----------------------
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Heres whats new:

USpeed hits hard with his entry in the PSP Genesis competition: Profile Manager v1.0.34. Profile Manager is the plugin to run should your PSP be shared amongst multiple peeps. Create a separate profile for your brother, little Johnny, isolating his game saves from yours, meaning his grubby little hands won’t be interfering with your game progress or scores.
Unfortunately, for the moment, Profile Manager does not manage individual PSN accounts for each profile. Implementing something similar to PSN License Manager would be ideal, but maybe that’s next version … if it’s even planned at all.
Profile Manager v1.0.34 CHANGELOG
- Pictures have to be 40x40px sized (vs 28x28px in previous version).
- PNG pictures with transparency are now supported (40x40px).
- Show/hide control is now customizable and can be a combination of buttons.
- You can choose the display position of USpeed PM.
- Support for 6.20 TN-D (*Not yet tested*)
- Few optimisations

News via http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/mathi...evealed-84189/
I don't know if anyone noticed but recently Mathieulh, who's quit the scene more times than we can count, revealed via his Twitter account details on how to get the much needed internal data that you need to figure out his previously rumored v3.60 PS3 exploit!
Check out some of Mathieulh's recent tweets below:
Quote:
@xShadow125 You can't overflow user processes, the NX bit applies here, you can only overflow lv2 or a process with higher privileges.
@xShadow125 You can update from your pwn pup only from 3.55 or lower, unless you have an exploit.
@xShadow125 Of course that should be fixed in upcoming lv0 revisions anyway (By moving the ldrs to the top of lv0)
@xShadow125 You run the 3.60 lv0, then you switch the nor, and pull the cell reset line, and you dump the extra KBs where the loaders are.
@xShadow125 Basically you have a nor with 3.55 (or lower) lv0 and your own small lv1 code that does the dump, and 3.60 lv0 on the other.
@xShadow125 You wont get all of lv0 but the part with the loaders shouldn't be overwritten.
@xShadow125 You can actually get all the 3.60 keys/loaders without knowing lv0 keys by dumping lv0 from ram with dual nor and signed lv1.
@xShadow125 That's from an older lv0, the method to get the data isn't the same, the one I posted was a dump, this one is a decryption
@xShadow125 There is a nice way to dump pre 3.55 lv0 as well by using a small lv1 binary, it's a risky process though.
@xShadow125 Oh! You mean my pm ? congrats, you just figured I have had lv0 dumped/decrypted for quite some time xD
@xShadow125 Reminds me of those stupid lv2 overflows I spotted ages ago in the bdemu code, which are useless now on 3.55+ anyway.
Now it's just of a matter of having the major advanced skills to do it, we talking NOR flasher, super-great soldering, extra PS3's to possible waste in the cracking experience, but is anyone capable here to do so?
If so, more recent tweets from Mathieulh, tell you how to possible build a new v3.60 PUP:
Quote:
To those planning on building a 3.56+ pup for whatever reason, the files attributes changed, the group and user ids for the files as well.
The new 3.56+ values for tarballs are the following: owner_id, "0000764" group_id, "0000764" owner, "tetsu" group, "tetsu" ustar, "ustar "
You can use fix_tar to use those new values. Use with caution.
By comparison, those are the pre-3.56 values. owner_id, "0001752" group_id, "0001274" owner, "pup_tool" group, "psnes" ustar, "ustar"
@davidkont 3.60 isn't "hardcore security" anyway, it's just sony thinking they are safe hiding everything inside lv0...
@Ps3WeOwnYoU You can't decrypt lv0 without the bootloader keys. Your best bet is to look at 3.56, decrypt loaders, look for exploits, profit
@Ps3WeOwnYoU You need to either decrypt or dump lv0, then you can get the encrypted loaders and decrypt them with the metldr key. Good luck.

News from Coldbird regarding his Custom Firmware for the PSP:
Good Evening fellow readers.
A long day has come to pass again and it’s time to notify you all of our current status and future plans.
First, let’s go for the bad news, due to the lack of betatesters for the online mode, we weren’t progressing as fast as we wanted on the online feature development, making it impossible to finish the necessary online mode feature for PRO-C before the Genesis Competition deadline comes to pass.
On the other hand though, this only means that PRO-C will take longer than planned, not that it is cancelled.
Thus, we will be handing in PRO-B4 as our Genesis Competition entry and release PRO-C as a followup release after the Genesis Competition has come to pass.
We intend to use the following week to do intensive betatesting on our latest release to ensure you guys are getting only the best of the best.
Even though it’s a bit early, here is the changelog of PRO-B4 for your viewing pleasure.
- New ISO Driver “Inferno” (boosting game compatiblity by a lot)
- Version.txt Display (people wanted it, there it is)
- Improved Plugin Compatiblity (NID resolver changes + other fixes)
- Custom PSX Manual Compatiblity
- Parental Level Check for ISOs
- Anti NBGI Fixes (fixes a bunch of “broken” games)
This is of course, just a temporary changelog… and I’m pretty sure quite a few things will get added to it over the following week… as we fix bugs and prepare the release candidate for a public release.
Greetings, Coldbird.

While one group of Android phone makers is swinging towards locking their hardware down, Sony Ericsson is resolutely headed in the other direction. The Swedo-Japanese consortium has just announced it will provide a secure and legal way for eager Android hackers to gain full control of the bootloader on some of its upcoming 2011 Xperia line of phones. All four models are covered, the Xperia Play, Neo, Pro, and Arc, however you have to make sure you buy a handset that isn't SIM-locked to a carrier and then there are territorial considerations to take into account. Warranties may still be voided by fooling around with your Xperia's software (again, depends on individual handsets and markets) and SE warns gravely of the potential for "physical injuries or material damage" if you freak your Android into overheating or worse. So proceed with caution, but know that Sony Ericsson is by your side*.
* Subject to terms and conditions, repair charges may be incurred, Android upgrades are promised but never guaranteed.

March 30th, 2011, 01:17 Posted By: wraggster
Sony has cancelled the planned April launch of its PlayStation Rewards scheme, which has been in beta for the past few months.
According to Joystiq, a message sent out to beta participants today read, "Based on what we learned, we have decided the program is not ready to roll out to the public in April as originally planned. But rest assured, we will continue to thank loyal and devoted customers like you with innovative offerings."
When asked for an explanation and a new launch window, a Sony spokesperson responded, "After careful consideration and evaluation following the PlayStation Rewards beta, we have decided not to roll out the program to the public at this time.
"We remain committed to providing the best overall consumer experience for our users, and we will be refocusing our efforts in the near future to further developing PlayStation Plus and our other network services."
The scheme, which was first announced back in October, was to reward users for playing new games, buying content from PlayStation Network, downloading movies, filling in any PlayStation surveys and carrying out various 'Quests'.
"PlayStation's most important asset is its loyal fans and PlayStation Rewards gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their amazing passion and desire to continually evolve the gaming world," explained PlayStation Network chief Susan Panico at the time.

March 30th, 2011, 01:00 Posted By: wraggster
George Hotz' legal team has filed a reply to SCEA's opposition brief in the ongoing case about PS3 hacking. In it, Hotz' lawyers refute several of the pieces of evidence submitted by SCEA, as well as denying the company jurisdiction in the case.
New details of the case were posted on legal blog Groklaw, having been submitted to the court by Hotz' legal team at the weekend.
The reply calls into question several grounds for legal action quoted by SCEA, which is the arm of Sony pursuing the case, as well as attempting to discredit pieces of evidence.
One of the main thrusts of the argument is that, by attempting to pursue the case in California, rather than Hotz' native New Jersey, SCEA is making life unnecessarily difficult for Hotz, especially as his legal team refuse to acknowledge alleged downloads of software from PSN, which occurred in California, as having been made by the defendant.
Secondly, the filing claims that SCEA is not even the correct body to be pursuing the case - Sony Japan is the owner of the hardware and firmware, which are the only things affected by Hotz' actions. Hotz even claims to have been unaware of SCEA's existence until legal action began.
The team also places suspicion on SCEA's association of Hotz with a PSN account under the name of "blickmaniac". SCEA believes that this account belongs to Hotz, and by opening it he must have agreed to Sony's terms and conditions.
The Hotz team denies his association with the account, and also pointed out that the version of the Terms of Service submitted to the court by SCEA as evidence is dated after he allegedly opened a PSN account.
Sony alleges that the serial number associated with the account belongs to a PS3 console which was is Mr Hotz' possession. Hotz also claims to have never opened the terms and conditions issued with each PS3 console, of which he owned one brand new and three second hand.
Several complexities to the case appear to be developing, with Sony unwilling to back down in the face of what is likely stiffer opposition than it was expecting. That strength of opposition is no doubt bolstered somewhat by the donation-based legal fund set up by Hotz earlier in the case, which raised at least $10,000.

March 30th, 2011, 00:32 Posted By: wraggster
This week the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play launches in the UK.
Rumour becomes reality as the ‘PlayStation phone’ enters the mobile market, complete with gamepad, downloadable PS1 games and a spurt of developer support.
We asked whether the Play, phase one of Sony’s renewed effort to squeeze themselves back into the mobile gaming race, has the potential to appeal to core and casual gamers.
Now, Sony Ericsson UK’s head of PR and sponsorship Matt Beavis, tells us more about the device from their perspective, what difference physical buttons make and what to look forward to at launch.
Rumours about a ‘PlayStation phone’ were circulating for over a year. Which department within Sony proposed making such a device, Sony Ericsson or Sony Computer Entertainment, and why has it taken so long to materialise?
It was a joint collaboration from the start, and it’s been a long time in discussion to bring this to market due to the need for the right operating system, chipset, handset and digitisation of content to come together.
Will the Xperia Play encourage more complex game experiences on mobile, and are audiences after this sort of thing?
There has been substantial growth within the mobile gaming segment of the market in the last few years, and enhancements on Android are starting to make quality mobile gaming even more accessible. We believe having the dedicated gamepad with hard keys will make the Xperia Play the best handset on the market for mobile gaming as it allows for a more fully immersive gaming and a more of a complete experience.
Where does this device fit into in the mobile market compared to smartphones and dedicated gaming handhelds, like the 3DS and NGP?
First and foremost, Xperia Play is an Android smartphone that also delivers the ultimate gaming experience by bringing HD quality games to the mobile consumers. NGP is a dedicated gaming console. We see the products being complementary.
What PlayStation games (PSone classics, minis, etc) will be available at launch?
At launch we will have a selection of classic PSone titles available for download from Android market. These are: Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter, MediEvil, Rally Cross,Cool Boarders 2, Wild Arms, Destruction Derby and Jumping Flash!
In addition to this, we will have a range of Android games optimised for gameplay on Xperia Play. A pre-loaded application will enable users to easily discover and download titles that have been optimised for gameplay on Xperia Play, access recently played games and see information about the games they have downloaded.
There will be more than 50 titles available at launch including: Bruce Lee: Dragon Warrior, Star Battalion, Asphalt Adrenaline, The Sims 3, FIFA 11, Guitar Hero 6, Gun Bros, Super KO Boxing, Tetris, Assassin’s Creed, Galaxy on Fire 2, Guns & Glory, Real Football, Modern Combat 2, Dungeon Defender - Second Wave, Need for Speed Shift,Wreckless Racing, and Raging Thunder.
Is PlayStation Store content likely to match the price of Android apps on Xperia Play?
On average, games will cost somewhere between €4.99-7.99. Developers will determine the price point for games.
What kind of exclusive content can consumers expect for the Xperia Play? Will any of it be original games designed for the device?
The beauty of Android is its open system that enables developers to launch and distribute games to the mass market. We are working hard with over 20 major games publishers to make sure consumers are given a wide choice of games and there is potential for some exclusive period on certain titles in the coming months - watch this space.
The Xperia Play offers games publishers the power to utilise the hard keys to offer a unique and original gaming experience. It will be in their hands as whether to offer this experience across other handsets.
The Xperia Play is the very first PlayStation Certified mobile. What does this new brand initiative mean for Sony Ericsson, but also other mobile manufacturers?
We don’t comment on other mobile manufacturers, but the Xperia Play is the world’s first PlayStation Certified smartphone. Combining a PlayStation quality gaming experience with the very latest Android smartphone technology, we’ve brought a really unique offering to the mobile marketplace.
SCE have suggested mapping over 12 buttons on to touchscreen devices, which seems more than a little impractical for mobiles. Does the fact that the Xperia Play has tactile buttons to play games give it greater gaming appeal?
Yes, we believe it does. It gives consumers an experience they are familiar with and the option to choose how they play games and interact with content. The physical pad also provides the responsiveness needed to immerse users into the experience. It will also make games that require a number of different button functions or combinations much easier to play. We believe that certain releases should be reviewed separately on Xperia Play to other mobile devices for this very reason.
Gaming features, such as a familiar gamepad, are generally a secondary thought when consumers consider purchasing a new mobile. Because of this could the Xperia Play be seen solely as a luxury gadget for gamers and not a cutting edge smartphone for everyday use?
The Xperia Play is first and foremost a smartphone, that has features and attributes from the Xperia portfolio and, in addition its superior gaming capabilities, will deliver a whole new experience to consumers. We believe it will appeal to a wide range of consumers, including casual gamers and people taking their first steps into mobile gaming.

Sony's announced that it's to conduct emergency maintenance on the PlayStation Network tonight, which could lead to some slight disruption of the online service.
The work has been scheduled to take place today between 4.30pm and 7.00pm, a community team moderator wrote on the European PlayStation site.
"PlayStation Network users will be unable to use PC registration between 16.00 and 16.15, and if you attempt to use this you will receive a site maintenance notification message.
"Between 16.00 and 17.30 if you attempt to access your Account Management, Registration or the PlayStation Store you may also receive the site maintenance notification message," they added.
"During the maintenance period you will still be able to Sign In to the Network and continue your gaming session online." Castle Crashers, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Age of Zombies and Dead Nation emerged as the victors in the first PlayStation Network Gamers' Choice Awards earlier this month.

Rockstar's Rage tech thought to have been exploited
Two teams of dedicated modders are in a race to rebuild a modern edition of Rockstar’s 2002 crime opus GTA Vice City.
Video demonstrations of their progress can be found below.
The two groups – only known in public by their team names – are said to be using open-source modding tools that take advantage of the Grand Theft Auto IV engine, known as Rage.
Rage, which was principally built at Rockstar San Diego, is the bedrock tech for a number of Rockstar projects, from Red Dead Redemption to the third Max Payne title.
With that tech exploited, the groups are meticulously rebuilding the Vice City game world, from its suburbs to its skyscrapers.
The two teams, according to games site Kotaku, have named themselves ‘Vice City Rage’ and ‘Vice IV’. They appear to be based in Russia. It is said they are using OpenIV, an unofficial open-source GTA IV modding tool set.

The PlayStation Phone. We've had quite the intimate history with this gamepad-equipped slider, learning of its secretive existence way back in August and then handling a prototype unit in January, so you'll forgive us for feeling sentimental and still entertaining our pet name for it. The Sony Ericsson marketing gurus renamed it the Xperia Play when it finally went official at MWC this year, but the PlayStation connection remains as strong as ever. Aside from the D-pad, iconic game keys, and two touchpads, this device comes with a little app named PlayStation Pocket, which will be serving up dollops of classic PlayStation One gaming to all those with a taste for it. Yes, the Sony influence is strong with this one, and the Android Market will be joining the fun with Xperia Play-optimized titles from third-party developers. So all we really need to know now is whether the Android smartphone underpinning this smash-bang fusion of old and new school entertainment happens to be any good. Shall we get Started?

According to Ars Technica, 'Hotz is slamming Sony's arguments at every turn. Sony claims there is a PSN account that Hotz created? Well, the serial number is wrong and anyone could have made that account. The manuals contained information on how SCEA is located in California? The manuals were never opened.' Groklaw posted the latest court filing (PDF) as well as their own analysis, saying, 'All the over-the-top allegations, in short, that some journalists published last week after reading SCEA's filing are now answered ably, about blickmaniac, the Playstation Network, the California downloads, the serial number, SCEA's jurisdictional arguments, everything. I confess, this is getting exciting.'"http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/0...k-Against-Sony

Contributing to a 'Play for Japan', the developer will lob the sweet sketches along with a signed copy of LittleBigPlanet 2 to winning bidders, with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Japan charity fund.
There are four sketches, all originals, and four copies of the game which, as an added bonus, come with "special uber rare 'Mm Special edition' box art slips" that were "originally intended to be owned only by Media Molecule staff," complete with signatures on the back.
