God of War III game director Stig Asmussen has revealed that former directors David Jaffe and Cory Barlog had different ideas about how to end the series.
"What David Jaffe talked about doing was - and I'm not sure how it would happen - basically, you destroy Greek mythology and then Norse mythology is right around the corner," Asmussen told GamePro.
"That's the next thing that Kratos would go after. It becomes clear at the end that he's going to become this harbinger of death across different mythologies in the world and maybe carry the series on from there." Apparently Barlog's idea was "about Kratos becoming Death".
David Jaffe subsequently popped up on Twitter to clarify, as spotted by Kotaku. "I assure you my story was not as simple as Kratos going after the Norse gods. There is an element of truth but it goes far beyond," he tweeted.
He also said: "I love Cory, he rocks. But that was my idea. Blades of Chaos becomes the Scythe of the Reaper. BUT still, lots more. Up2Sony2reveal." Asmussen was fond of both alternatives. "They're both incredibly good ideas, but you need a director to be passionate about the story and understand it intimately. If I had used Dave or Cory's idea, I wouldn't have been as passionate about it."
He also talked a little about working under a game director, having worked as lead environment artist and art director under Jaffe and Barlog respectively for the first two God of War games.
"Jaffe was a 'big idea' kind of guy who thought outside of the box," Asmussen explained. "He worked more along the lines of commanding his ideas, while Cory was a little more political and savvy when working with people and pitching his ideas. They're two very different people, but they're both incredibly talented."

Arguably the biggest aspect to Bungie's deal with Activision today isn't that the Halo-creator has signed with the publisher embroiled in an ugly legal spat over treatment of its studios.
No, it's the fact that the once Xbox-exclusive studio has changed focus to a new IP that will be released on multiple formats.
For the past 10 years Bungie has worked solely on Microsoft's Xbox and Xbox 360 platforms - so the switch to multiplatform could present some issues.
We put the question to the studio's community manager Brian Jarrard - will it not be a challenge moving to platforms like PS3?
"Oh, sure - we've been Xbox exclusive for a long time," he said. However he confidently added: "But it's something where we have some of the best engineering folks in the industry on board who are already thinking heard about how our new game universe might manifest itself over various devices." And if Bungie's world-class team of coders can't quite make it, Jarrard said the new publishing deal with Activision gives the studio access to many who know multiplatform development well.
Said Jarrard: "That was another big draw to Activision - they have a lot of experience with multiple platforms and technical expertise. I think we'll be able to work with them to leverage their experience and make that a little bit easier for us going forward."

Newly released today:
Due to the immense popularity of the first PSP game in the series, the developers are putting more effort, more girls and more costumes into this second installment.
Choose a pair of your favourite characters and take them on this 2D Belt scrolling action, let the girls cooperate with each other to launch combos, or switch them in and out to let the player character rest.
22 girls will join the battle with a complete new plot. Warriors who were out of the game are back with new skin tight dresses. Watch the fully voiced cut-ins when you launch sure kill attacks and see what damage you do to your opponents and their clothings. Beware, though, your opponents can do the same to you.

Someone has finally filed a class-action lawsuit against Sony for the removal of Other OS. I hope that this forces Sony to restore the functionality or pay those affected enough to restore the functionality (which would essentially mean giving each Other OS user a refund that would allow them to purchase another PS3 so that they can continue to use Other OS on the one that they have). I truly believe that Sony was in the wrong here, and hope that justice will prevail. Unfortunately, I know that Class Action lawsuits rarely get full and just compensation for those affected...
From Slashdot:
A Californian Playstation 3 user has filed the first class action lawsuit against Sony over removal of the 'Install Other OS' function from the Playstation 3. The action seeks to redress Sony's 'intentional disablement of the valuable functionalities originally advertised as available with the Sony Playstation 3 video game console.' The suit claims that the disablement breaches the sales contract between Sony and its customers and constitutes 'an unfair and deceptive business practice perpetrated on millions of unsuspecting customers.'

The PlayStation Minis version of Championship Manager 2010 will be released tomorrow.
You'll pay either £4.99 or €5.99, depending on where you live.
Championship Manager's Tim Hodges has posted screenshots and a video on the European PlayStation blog to coincide with the news.
This Minis adaptation has been designed to sit alongside the full-size Championship Manager 2010 game. It won't compete on depth, but the developer didn't set out to do so.
PlayStation Minis are playable on both PSP and PS3.

This is for people who just need to have that "official" stamp on everything related to their console.
Sony Japan has started up a PS3 hard drive upgrade program. Owners of pretty much any current PS3 model -- even 20 gigabyte launch units -- can send in their system to have their internal hard drive replaced with a 250 gigabyte disk.
No, this isn't a free process. Not even close. For the parts and labor, Sony is asking 18,000 yen. That's close to the price of a new PSP-3000.
It looks like Sony takes care of everything for you, though, from swapping out the drives to moving all your data over from the old drive to the new one. They'll even back your old hard drive.
Still, it should be noted that you can easily swap out hard drives on your own or opt for an external USB solution, both at far less cost. This is something that Sony's upgrade info page fails to mention, unfortunately.
This program is only available in Japan at present.
I ask you, would you really pay old Sony to upgrade your PS3's hard drive? I sure as hell wouldn't. Leave feedback via comments.

The latest iteration of Sony’s PS3 Slim, the CECH-2100A, houses a rebuilt RSX chip that cuts both the power consumption and the likelihood of failure for the console.
As has been previously reported, the CECH-2100A is 200g lighter than the generation one PS3 Slim. PlayStation University adds that the new unit’s GPU, also known as the RSX chip or ‘Reality Synthesizer’, has been reduced from the 65nm design seen in earlier models to a new streamlined 40nm.
The result is that the console uses less power than older models and generates less heat, meaning that it is far less liable to suffer problems associated with overheating. Sony has already reduced the size of the Cell processor to 45nm in an earlier redesign.
As a further consequence, the new design also boasts a simplified heatsink, smaller cooling unit and a smaller lighter power supply that is just half the weight (412g) of the PSU found in the launch PS3. A number of chips found in older units have also been removed.
The CECH-2100A uses just 80W of power when playing games. Compare this to the 160W that first generation ‘phat’ PS3s consume when just watching movies.

Absolute genius but deeply flawed – that’s the verdict of Revolution Software’s acclaimed development star Charles Cecil when asked by MCV what he though of Sony’s recent chart-topper Heavy Rain.
“Half way through I thought it was a work of absolute genius,” Cecil told MCV. “When I finished it, I still thought it was a work of genius but deeply flawed. There’s a lot of questions it asks, and I think some of those are answered really well, and others are flawed.
“But I really admire David Cage, his team and the work they have done. I think it’s good for the adventure game, I think it’s good for the industry overall.” And doing his best not to venture into spoiler territory, Cecil went on to highlight the moment that upset him the most.
“What I’m personally very interested in is the relationship the audience has with the character they control,” he continued.
“Without spoiling anything, you discover something at the end that’s incredibly important about one of the characters you’ve been playing, which creates an incredible disconnect between the audience and the character – and I think that is deeply, deeply flawed.
“It would have worked in a film, it’s a great film technique but it should never have been brought over to games, and David and his team should have probably seen that. But I do think it’s a brilliant game.”

Flamboyantly attired in a flowing fuchsia scarf, the Mini Game King is probably guilty of countless copyright violations, but we don't care. The real question is whether this latest KIRF PSP can actually play games, and we're happy to say it does. Summoning the full might of its infringing power, the King can emulate eleven classic consoles and handhelds when it's not playing AV files from 4GB of internal memory, and its Chinese manufacturer triumphantly claims that the device "will make you happy unlimited" if you hook up an wireless six-axis controller as well. "This controller does not come with the console, you have to pay for it," reads the box, but we're dying to try "3Dthergame" and "Othergame" as soon as we can dig one up.

Superhero film Kick-Ass has been turned into a beat-'em-up videogame for PS3, which will be released this Thursday on PSN for $14.99 in the US.
The game was made by Frozen Codebase - a studio that boasts former Naughty Dog, Raven and Treyarch staff. Work only began on an adaptation in September 2009, which meant Frozen Codebase bypassing visual flourishes for "gameplay, gameplay and more gameplay", according to president Ben Geisler.
That gameplay is beat-'em-up sprinkled with co-op and RPG elements. The story follows what happens in the film and the comic, but also goes into more detail about the drug trade.
There's an Arena mode for wave-based enemy slaying, and multiplayer is on the way as post-release DLC.
There's a video of the Kick-Ass game on the US PlayStation blog.
Sony offered "no comment" on a European release.
The Kick-Ass film opened in UK cinemas in late March.

BioWare is working with Sony to discover why Dragon Age: Origins struggles to run on PS3.
The problems started after Sony released firmware update 3.30 for the console last week. BioWare's community forums are clogged with reports of game crashes.
Though aware of the issue, BioWare cannot recreate the problems on dev kits and so quickly analyse and isolate the error. Because of this, the community is being called on to submit feedback. "We have to do this a little old school, and keep narrowing the cases down," said BioWare poster Fernando Melo.
His comments suggest the issue relates to games saved before the firmware release conflicting with games saved afterwards. Some users have 'repaired' their game by deleting saved games, but Melo is loathe to recommend this method.
If you're experiencing problems, head over to the BioWare forums to contribute.
"Thanks again for your patience," said Melo. "It is pretty clear that despite this affecting other titles, that it has impacted on DA substantially. We're hopeful there is something we can do from our end to work around whatever was introduced in 3.3.
"In the meantime, please continue to send us information that will help us narrow this down," he added.
Dragon Age: Origins expansion Awakening was released in March, raising the level cap and giving voice to the darkspawn. Awakening was awarded 9/10 on Eurogamer.

Sony's most recent fun-postponing mandatory system update for PS3 also paved the way for VAIO PCs to take remote control of your console.
That's according to the official release notes (thanks Kotaku), which state: "You can now select [PC] as an option under [Remote Play Settings] > [Register Device].
"When you select this option, you will be able to use the remote play feature to operate your PS3 system from future models of the VAIO PC.
"Details of this feature will be announced on the official VAIO website at vaio.eu/playstation in May 2010."
It not being May yet, all that you can find on the VAIO website is some lifestyle photography and a few notices of intent.
PS3's 3.30 firmware also introduced new ways of sorting Trophies and updated the console to prepare it for the launch of 3D stereoscopic games this summer.

Sony has lifted the lid on another new feature coming to PS3 hit SingStar as part of its June update – SingStar Remote.
The new functionality will allow those with both a PS3 and PSP to connect both machines and use the portable device to create a playlist of up to 20 songs during a session. This can be tinkered with while the game is being played, allowing users to queue up plenty of tracks that will quickly appear in the designated order on the PS3.
In another additional, the Professional gameplay mode will now rank players on their vibrato performance. SingStar Clubs are expanding too and can now house up to 1000 members, and players are now able to join up to five clubs.
SingStore videos will also be viewable directly from their associated songs in the game.
All of this will be arriving in the game’s next update in June, which will also offer online play for the first time in the series.
