News/release from Hellcat:
H E L L C A T s R e c o v e r y F l a s h e r
* recover semi-bricks * up-/downgrade your CFW *
* flash *ANY* CFW directely to almost any other *
* backup/restore firmware flash (not NAND dump) *
* make and restore NAND dumps *
>> all without Pandora <<
What is this? And why?
========================= ===============
Short version:
--------------------
Flashes a fresh M33 CFW (everyone from 3.71 up) for recovering semi-bricks or to up-/downgrade CFW
does not use Pandora, runns from the recovery menu or the XMB
does not use (as in launch) the original Sony Updater (only extracts all required files from the original .PBP)
runns fine on CFWs lower than 3.52-M33-3 - handy for upgrading older FWs w/o the "need to go 3.52, then 3.52-3, then higher" odyssey :-)
runns fine from TimeMachine (3.40-OE on Fat and 3.60-M33 on Slim)
can backup the FW flash and restore selected parts (XMB theme, settings, PSN activation, complete firmware)
can make and restore full NAND dumps
Long version:
--------------------
Can be found the the README!
Latest Update:
--------------------
v1.60
Updated 5.00-M33 installation to revision 6
Changed autonaming of new backup folders to include date, firmware, psp model
Made the resurrecion.prx replacement function working on all DDCs from 6 and above
Added detection of PSP 3000 and PSP 2000 TA-088v3+. Flash writing functions will be disabled on those PSPs as they are not CFW capable and flashing would result in a brick
Added support for "Firmware Packs" - theese, like addons, packs will eliminate the need for a complete new release only when a new (C)FW is released. Instead of releasing a new Recovery Flasher it'll just be such a pack, enabling Recovery Flasher to install the new firmware until an update of the main app is done that supports the firmware natively. Can/Will also be used for making Recovery Flasher install CFWs not supported, like GEN and such.
Added complete checksum-check of the updater .PBP going to be used to avoid corrupted/incomplete .PBPs causing a brick
Added full verify of the NAND dump that got written to be sure you have a good one
Added detection of HEN mode
Added detection and propper handling if a backup set contains OFW instead of CFW (like when made from HEN)
Added better NAND dump handling. New dumps are now created with names similar to the (new) backup slot names (and now go into /flash-nanddumps), incl. an ID for the PSP they are made on, on NAND restore a list is shown with all available dumps matching the ID of the current PSP to choose from (the ID matching should prevent choosing a wrong dump accidentally)
Added back/cancel on backup creation and restore
Backups made from HEN mode are tagged to identify them as containing ORIGINAL firmware (as those backups do!)

XSEED Games today announced that Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and Half-Minute Hero, both for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) handheld entertainment system, are currently in development and will be among the company's E3 2009 lineup. XSEED Games will showcase titles for the PSP as well as both Nintendo platforms, the Nintendo DS and Wii, at E3 2009 which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 2nd-4th.
"This is going to be an especially exciting showcase for XSEED Games as we just announced new titles that represent what our fans have been asking for," said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. "We are especially excited to be releasing them in the North American market and look forward to supporting our growing fan base".
XSEED Games will be showcasing the following titles during E3 2009:
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony PSP
While everything is calm on the surface, the world of Lunar is slowly devolving into chaos. The legendary Dragonmaster Dyne and his faithful companions have faded into obscurity only to have a shadowy figure known as the Magic Emperor begin to wreak havoc on the world created by the Goddess Althena. Meanwhile, in a small, humble village far removed from the turmoil in Lunar, lives a young man named Alex. As one who idolizes the legendary Dyne, Alex dreams of one day becoming the next Dragonmaster and matching the accomplishments of his life-long hero. Egged on by his childhood friend Ramus and with his adopted sister Luna in tow, Alex heads off on what seems to be a meaningless adventure, unaware that it would be the first step in an epic journey with the fate of the entire world at stake.
Since it debuted over a decade ago, Lunar: Silver Star Story has continuously captivated fans with its timeless tale of love, betrayal and redemption, expertly woven into its involving gameplay and cinematic presentation. The classic masterpiece has now been reborn on the PSP as Lunar: Silver Star Harmony with all new graphics, added gameplay features, and a re-mastered soundtrack so a whole new generation of fans can experience this legendary first entry of the Lunar universe, while added story elements are sure to intrigue returning fans alike. This title is being developed by Game Arts and is scheduled to be released Fall 2009 exclusively for the PSP.
Half-Minute Hero PSP
For centuries, an epic battle between humans and evil lords has been raging and destroying everything in its path. The civilized world is under attack by the relentless evil lord and all that remains are ruins of castles and the bodies of faithful knights who once proudly protected them. Throughout time, heroes and legends have risen above the chaos, only to eventually disappear into the ashes. As the last wandering sage and final hope for humanity, it is up to the protagonist to somehow transcend time and death to unite these legends and their unique powers in one last battle against the Ultimate Evil Lord.
An unorthodox approach to traditional RPGs, Half-Minute Hero combines adventure, an epic storyline, legendary characters and a punishing countdown clock to destruction, to create an adrenaline pumping experience that will blow past conventional fantasy games. Choose between four modes of accelerated gameplay, each complete with original quests, enemies and attacks. Hero Mode consists of random battles with classic RPG leveling-up elements, Evil Lord Mode involves a high degree of strategy to summon the appropriate monsters against the varying oncoming enemies, Princess Mode involves fast-paced shooting action as you guide the princess safely to and from her castle, and Knight Mode challenges the player to protect the sage in any way possible, including carrying the sage away from danger, clinging to monsters to halt their movement, or even throwing yourself at enemies to cause physical damage. Each of the gameplay modes contains 30 stages in which players have 30 seconds, or a half-minute, to complete their tasks. Retaining the charm inherent in classic RPGs, Half-Minute Hero is a breakneck foray into an ancient land of monsters and magic, 30 seconds at a time. XSEED Games partnered with Marvelous Entertainment USA to secure the North American rights to publish and distribute Half-Minute Hero. This title is being developed by Opus Studio and is scheduled to be released Fall 2009 exclusively for the PSP.
FRAGILE: Farewell Ruins of the Moon Wii
Seto is an extremely special young boy; he may be the last remaining human being alive on the planet. As Seto searches through the eerily calm and beautiful ruins of a civilization lost, he comes across a mysterious girl named Ren, who quickly scurries away from him despite possibly being the only other living human in the world. As he struggles to locate Ren and search for other survivors, he must also fight off the ghosts and demons that haunt this forsaken land and piece together the mystery behind the disappearance of mankind.
In FRAGILE: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, players will explore a dark and abandoned world with the aid of their Wii Remote™ that functions as a flashlight and as a proximity sensor to track invisible ghosts. The highly cinematic presentation, coupled with an emotive soundtrack, bring the narrative of a lonely and lost soul to life as players encounter memorable characters and discover the back story behind scavenged items that provide insight on people's last days before the apocalypse. FRAGILE: Farewell Ruins of the Moon is scheduled to be released Winter 2009 exclusively for Wii.
Arc Rise Fantasia Wii
From Marvelous Entertainment and Image Epoch, the same partnership that created the highly lauded Luminous Arc, comes Arc Rise Fantasia, an epic RPG developed exclusively for Wii. Arc Rise Fantasia is a product of old and new, combining gorgeous graphics with modern gameplay while bringing classic Japanese high fantasy role-playing action involving airships and dragons, exclusively to the platform. Arc Rise Fantasia is scheduled for release Winter 2009.
Flower, Sun, and Rain DS
Flower, Sun, and Rain is a unique mystery adventure from the legendary twisted mind behind No More Heroes, Suda51. Originally released on the PlayStation?2 computer entertainment system and having quickly gained notoriety for its eccentricity, Flower, Sun, and Rain had never previously been available outside of Japan. This updated Nintendo DS release features all the creative quirks that made the original a cult hit while adding Touch Screen functionality and 50 new puzzles in what's sure to please loyal fans of the original version. Flower, Sun, and Rain is scheduled to start shipping to retailers on June 16, 2009.
JU-ON: The Grudge Wii
It is said that when a person dies with a deep, burning grudge, a curse is born. This title is based on JU-ON, the Japanese inspiration for the hit horror film, The Grudge, with the original director, Takashi Shimizu, acting as a consultant on game development. JU-ON: The Grudge is billed as the first "Haunted House Simulator" where accessibility and instant scares are given priority over all other gameplay aspects. Using the Wii Remote™ as a flashlight, players more forward with the touch of a button and explore haunted areas such as an abandoned warehouse, a dimly-lit hospital, and a mannequin factory. Much like a haunted house, the player must proceed forward even after being frightened and knowing that even more horrible surprises await. JU-ON: The Grudge is scheduled to be released in October 2009.
Little King's Story Wii
Little King's Story has an art style that is very 'story-book' in look and a magical fairy tale quality that will intrigue and delight gamers. The storyline, visual look, and lyrical music of Little King's Story, work in concert to transport players to an interactive, enchanting, fairy tale world. By combining gameplay elements from life-simulation, real-time strategy, and adventure genres, the many aspects of creating a vast kingdom come to life! As King, players will manage and involve their townspeople in the goal of improving and expanding their kingdom by enlisting them to dig for treasure, clear away obstacles, and otherwise better their community. Of course, leadership is a two-way street, so as King, players will try to grant as many requests from the townspeople as possible while striving to conquer rival nations to create a single unified kingdom. The game transforms the Wii Remote™ to a royal scepter and offers players the chance to be the best king in the world! Little King's Story will be released July 2009.
Ragnarok Online DS
Ragnarok Online DS is based on the worldwide PC MMO phenomenon, and brings the same addictive gameplay of customization and exploration to the Nintendo DS platform that has attracted more than 3 million registered users in North America. In Ragnarok Online DS, players upgrade their characters' armor and weapons as well as earning Status and Skill Points each time they gain a level. These points can be used to further customize your battle party to best suit your playing style. Staying true to the community and teamwork for which Ragnarok Online is renowned, the DS version allows players to team up with two other friends wirelessly to take on the Mirage Tower which includes over 50 floors, randomly generated maps, and the chance to obtain rare items. Ragnarok Online DS will be available Winter 2009 exclusively for the DS.
Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga Wii
Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga is an epic adventure RPG available exclusively on Wii. It is the follow up title to the original Valhalla Knights and Valhalla Knights 2, and expands upon the series by introducing a new online feature that allows two players to adventure through the land of Eldar co-operatively. Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga continues the series trademark of no random encounters while updating the real-time battle system to now include battles taking place on the world map instead of a separate battle screen for a seamless experience. Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga will be available Summer 2009.

Sega is set to begin the second round of downloadable "vintage" games, starting with XBLA's Gunstar Heroes on June 10, with the PSN version hitting the following day. Gunstar Heroes appears to be the only title planned for the PSN from the seven announced titles.
Although the seven games have been "re-worked" for high-definition, with online leaderboards and network play, it's worth mentioning that many of the titles are also available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai is on a mission. A mission to make money for Sony's PlayStation division.
"We need to quickly bring our PlayStation business on a break-even level and later to profitability," Hirai said Thursday. Sony plans to do this through cost-cutting efforts and network service expansion. According to Hirai, Sony is thinking about added PlayStation Network services to other Sony products like televisions and digital cameras.
This echoes what Sony boss Howard Stringer stated way back in 2007 — that Sony was "trying to get our devices to talk to each other efficiently. PlayStation Network should migrate from gadget to gadget."
What appears to be phase one was announced today with Sony's new phone that lets users stream media from the PS3.
"We need a strategy where buying a hardware is not the endpoint but instead a starting point that can offer new experiences to our customers," Hirai said.
An aggressive strategy is needed as Sony's game division has been in the red three years running. Sony as a whole chalked up its biggest group operating loss ever. Whether or not that rumored fall PS3 price cut will factor into Sony's plan, Hirai refused to say. Instead, he stated that prices will be decided by "market developments."

The original Nazi-killing first-person shooter returns next week, as Activision announces the release date for Wolfenstien 3D for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
All 60 levels of Wolfenstein 3D will be hitting both consoles on June 4th, giving gamers something more constructive to do than refreshing gaming websites for the latest news out of E3. And while the original Wolfenstein 3D might not be as fun to play today as it was when it was originally released back in 1992, but Activision has included plenty of incentive take on Mecha-Hitler one more time. Perhaps taking a cue from the Fable II Pub Games, playing through Wolfenstein 3D on your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will earn you accolades and gold to pay for weapons upgrades in Wolfenstein, the next chapter in the series due out August 4. Very sneaky.
There's no mention of any upgrades to the game, so it looks like it's a straight port, and there's no mention of a price either, so we're just going to have to wait and see what's announced between now and next week.

Square Enix will be bringing a previously unannounced game to E3 this year. Front Mission Evolved, being developed by Double Helix Games, is a third-person shooter for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. It has no release window as of yet.
Front Mission Evolved is described as an "action-packed third-person shooter" that gives players control of the wanzer. What is a wanzer? Good question. Apparently it is a "massive humanoid war machine." I like to call those mechs. The game will feature a full single player campaign and online multiplayer.
Double Helix is also currently working on G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra – The Game.

PSP demos for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and Rock Band Unplugged lead the PlayStation Store refresher this week. The former is being thrust on Europe by both Capcom and Sony as the pair try to spark a Japanese-style frenzy when the game launches in late June. The latter, while we're on topic, has face-button presses instead of instrument peripherals. Rock Band Unplugged is also out in late June.
There are samplers for CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars and Inferno Pool - the two PSN game offerings this week. CellFactor is an FPS and Inferno Pool is a pool (the one with cues) game. Try them. Go on.
We like the look of the 2000 AD-themed costumes for LittleBigPlanet because we like comic books, and we feel we ought to mention the inspirationally named Ferrari Challenge "Pack of 5 New Cars and 1 Track".
The Corporate Warfare DLC for Saints Row 2 shows up, and there are more freebies for MotorStorm and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2.
There's the usual spattering of Rock Band tracks, although we're only offered one Guitar Hero song this week.

Criterion Games has announced an 11th June release date for Big Surf Island on PS3 and Xbox 360.
This is the next beefy premium update for Burnout Paradise that finally offers a bridge out of the city to an area offering the biggest jumps in the game and a new sense of freedom. There's no word on cost, yet.
There's a lovely video of the content over on the official Criterion website.
Despite being released at the very beginning of 2008, Burnout Paradise continues to regularly expand as Criterion provides a shining example of what post-release DLC can offer.

EA's set to kick of a 'worldwide community challenge' for downloadable Battlefield game, 1943.
Players on both PSN and XBLA will be rewarded with a fourth, unlockable map called Coral Sea, once the community has achieved 43 million kills on either platform.
"Coral Sea is designed to showcase the intense battle in the skies, offering an all-new Air superiority game mode," says EA. "The legendary WWII action this map provides will have players dog fighting in this airplanes-only map, proving once again DICE delivers on a first class online vehicle warfare experience better than anyone else!"
Players will be able to track the progress of their respective console communities www.battlefield.com/1943. There's no word on how it'll work for PC.
Battlefield 1943 is set to appear on both console online services ($14.99, 1200 MS Points) "this summer". Read our recent hands-on for more info.

London-based developer Splash Damage has revealed that its secret project with Fallout 3 publisher Bethesda Softworks is an original IP named Brink.
Although a teaser trailer has been released to sister site Eurogamer.net, it reveals little about the game - with only a brief hint at a science fiction themed storyline. Splash Damage's experience though has so far solely been in first-person shoots such as Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz earlier in the month Bethesda's European managing director Sean Brennan confirmed the game was a FPS, saying: "That's a product that we believe is a genre-breaker, it's a real killer app."
"From a quality perspective we're pitching that along the same lines as Fallout 3. We've kept it under lock and key, there are so many innovative features in there we don't want to reveal them too soon. We've spent significant resources developing the title. And that's a great example of our European work," he added.
The game it is due to be released in spring 2010 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It will also being demonstrated in more detail at E3 next week.
Bethesda and Splash Damage signed a long-term development partnership in May of last year, as part of the former's attempts to increase their influence in the European market.

Having struck up a very profitable Olympic-based partnership last year, Sega has turned on old rival Mario to take him on at his own game with the announcement of Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.
The game, which is in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii takes place in your typical assortment of colourful locations and features many of the Sonic and Sega universe’s favourite characters, including Tails, Dr. Eggman, AiAi (Super Monkey Ball) and Amigo (of Samba De fame).
Expect comic attacks, hidden short cuts and character-specific ‘All Star’ moves.
“Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is no ordinary racing game,” Sega Europe’s marketing director Gary Knight stated. “Its huge variety of characters and vehicles, plus the ability to play both online and off set it apart from other games of this type.
“The team have pushed the boundaries on what you would normally expect and created a different and unique party racing title whereby you really can’t take anything for granted.”
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing will be released in early 2010.
