Earlier at IGNDS, we shared details on Ni no Kuni: The Another World as provided in this week's Famitsu. Now, a small update on Level-5's other big RPG, Danbol Senki, also provided through this week's issue.
As previously announced, Danbol Senki is being developed for the PSP and features animation from OLM. The game doesn't appear to have an official English name yet, so we've previously referred to it as Cardboard Senki, or Cardboard Battle Machine.
The game takes place in the year 2050 as small battle machines known a LBX (Little Battle eXperience) have become a hit amongst kids. Ban Yamano, the game's 13-year-old main character, loves mechs and models, and plays with his LBX in secret from hits parents. One day, a mysterious lady gives him a high end AX-00 LBX, telling him that within the device resides the hope and despair of humanity. Ban takes the LBX and quickly customizes it into his very own Achilles/V LBX. This is where things go horribly wrong.
We're not sure just yet what exactly it is that goes wrong. It does appear that a mysterious group of three masked agents were watching Ban take possession of the LBX, so perhaps our hero has gotten himself involved in something deep.
Ban lives in Misora Town, a city by the sea. He frequently -- as in every day -- visits the Misora Model Shop.
The game's battles don't exactly take place in Misora, though. As previously detailed, combat in Danbol Senki takes place inside cardboard boxes. Players put their LBX units up against one another within the confines of boxes which are apparently fortified with a forcefield that keeps the happenings of the battle on the inside. There are a variety of battle fields represented by different dioramas, including a volcano area and a ruins area.
Serving as friends, or possibly rivals, to Ban are Ami Kawamura and Kazuya Aoshima. Ami is a 13-year-old top student who serves as the game's heroine. She makes use of a ninja-like LBX known as Kunoichi. Kazuya is a 14-year-old who looks somewhat like a thug, but is actually a good guy. He makes use of a wolf-like LBX named Soldier.
We'll hopefully find out how the story comes together and how the battles play out as Danbol Senki's 2009 Japanese release draws near.

Ciao!
So I finally got motivated enough on my one day off this week to do at least something. (Don't know what was wrong with me today :/)
So I got a few complaints about basing LuaPlayer Euphoria off v.20 as opposed to v.16 which had no module loading and thus had more free ram.
So rather than be an idiot and start over using the v.16 source, I instead have removed module loading from the code I am using (v.20).
I know it's a small change, I am just throwing it out there to make sure I didn't break anything whilst doing it. So testing and feedback would be great.
I don't really want to go making loads of big changes until I am assured that this is still just as stable as V3, and nothing new is broken.
So feedback is appreciated!
Please see "Functions & Features.txt" in the download for usage, and the "Samples" folder for examples of the new features and code system in action
If you would like to request a feature be added, please do so at the official forum : LuaPlayer Euphoria Forum
If you use this please leave a comment!

A recent survey seeks consumer interest in a PSP game rental service. With the PSP Go all but confirmed a possibility and UMD on its way out, a PSP that takes full advantage of the digital age and the PSN doesn't exactly sound like crazy talk. Plus, there's always going to be a rental market, so why shouldn't Sony take advantage of that?
Depending on the terms and price, the idea of a direct rental service sounds like a potentially cost effective option for gamers during these hard economic times. Should it ever come to fruition, that is.

via Eurogamer
Sony fansite PlayStation Lifestyle claims to have blown the lid on the next game from Team ICO, codenamed Project Trico.
In a video lasting nearly four minutes, we see a boy and a giant bird-rat in very ICO-esque environments, apparently co-operating on some sort of unspoken shared quest.
The visual style is reminiscent of ICO, and so are individual details like the boy's clothing. The movement of the bird-rat thing is very organic, almost feline, calling to mind the developer's previous work on Shadow of the Colossus.
Sony has never previously confirmed details about Trico, but Team ICO's disciples will note with delight that the chain binding the bird-rat at the start of the trailer is the same as the one that appeared in a Team ICO job advert at the beginning of last year.
Following the trailer's release, posters on the NeoGAF forums have claimed that the video is internal test footage shown around Sony over a year ago.
From that, we can infer that the trailer's leak is not a portent of what Sony will do at E3 in two weeks' time, although the fact that details are in the public domain may accelerate any plans.
We're waiting to hear back from Sony Europe, but the platform holder told GameSpot: "We've made no announcement of anything called 'Project Trico.'"
Update: Sony Europe said it had no comment.

As we predicted, but not as From Software planned, the countdown clock that launched last week gets its reveal in this week's Famitsu — on newsstands this Friday, leaked on the internet right now.
From Software is releasing a slew of PSP ports of PlayStation 2 game, and they are largely, you'll never guess, giant mecha Armored Core and stealth Tenchu games. SHOCKING!
The games are Armored Core 3 Portable (out July 30), Armored Core: Last Raven (out March 2010), Armored Core: Silent Line Portable (out November), Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (out August) and Tenchu: Fatal Shadows (out January 2010).
There is one one curve ball — a genuine surprise, even. From Software is porting PS2 game Fu-un Shinsengumi to the PSP. Originally published by Konami, the game was developed by Genki and features artwork by Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa. Not sure how From Software came into possession of this title, though. From Software should have a countdown clock to that.

Sony is to target 8 to 15 year olds in an online marketing push to increase the demographic appeal of the PSP, as part of its "Your Whole World In Your Hands" campaign.
A beta of website pspinyourhands.com has already launched and is currently focused on uploading and sharing images in a 3D gallery. Various competitions are also featured, the current one featuring links to user-created YouTube content.
"PSP is going for a younger market, which isn’t something we’ve really done before," said UK product manager Claire Backhouse in comments to marketing website NewMediaAge.
"Our heartland is 16-24-year-old men and always will be — they won’t be neglected in the slightest. But the summer’s game releases, such as Harry Potter and Petz, as well as the launch of the new colours, are certainly appealing to an 8-15-year-old audience."
A new competition in the summer will feature a prize of a family holiday abroad, with Sony looking to host the competition on other child-friendly websites such as Jetix and Disney.

Further new NPD Group data has revealed lifetime sales to date for Sony's Killzone 2 title in the US, with the game so far selling only 677,000 units.
First released on February 27, the PlayStation 3 exclusive debuted in the February sales chart at number five, with 323,000 units sold. In the March results the game fell only two places to number seven, with 296,000 units sold.
By April though the game had fallen outside of the top 20, but data provided to website Gamasutra reveals that it sold 58,000 units during the month. As result the game's lifetime total to date in the US currently stands at 677,000 units.
On its release Sony proclaimed Killzone 2 to be its fastest-selling title ever in the US, in terms of reaching 500,000 unit sales. Responding to the March NPD chart, Sony also revealed that worldwide sales had passed 1 million units, suggesting sales in PAL territories at the time of around 400,000 units (The game was not released in Japan until April 23).
Although the sales figures are strong by most standards the game is reported to have cost over EUR 40 million to develop. Perhaps most importantly for Sony, the title has failed to drive hardware sales on the PlayStation 3, which have actually dropped year-on-year in the US since the game's release.

Play as either an Alien, Predator or Marine in Rebellion-developed FPS
Sega has announced gameplay details for its highly anticipated Aliens vs. Predator game, which is scheduled for release in early 2010.
The game lets players take control of either an Alien, Predator or Marine, with distinct campaigns that interweave with each other. Gamers can then take any of the races and battle it out in the game’s multiplayer.
“The original Aliens vs. Predator game was a landmark title for Rebellion, and we are both proud and excited to be revisiting the license with SEGA and Fox,” explained Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley.
“Our new technology will enable us to produce a truly terrifying and visceral experience.”
Senior VP of New Media for Fox Licensing, Gary Rosenfeld added: “Aliens Vs. Predator is a powerful franchise for Fox and provides endless possibilities in the interactive space. Sega and Rebellion have created an excellent gaming experience that will help this legacy live on.”

A second Killzone 2 map pack, 'Flash and Thunder' has been unveiled, featuring two maps from the PS2 original.
The pack features Beach Head and Southern Hills maps, which are apparently "two of the best" arenas from the original Killzone- now completely remade for PS3.
The Beach Head map sees the ISA tasked with defending a coastal stronghold against a Helghast landing force. This rain-lashed and windswept battlefield is limited in size "which means more action, more hand-to-hand combat, plenty of sneaking up on the enemy and melee kills galore", says SCE.
The Southern Hills map sees the ISA attempting to storm a Helghast compound on top of a hill. "A mixture of built-up terrain and wide open spaces - perfect for headshot sniper kills - this map is full of hiding places and offers the perfect battlefield for a large-scale game with lots of players," notes the platform holder.
The Flash and Thunder Pack will arrive on the PlayStation Store on June 11.

2009 is looking to be a big year for Sony’s once written off PSP, and ahead of the announcement of a redesigned unit at E3 next month Sony has revealed a new marketing drive aimed squarely at the 8-15 year old market.
The move will place PSP as a more direct rival to Nintendo’s 100m plus selling DS, and will centre on a new online PSP community hub – pspinyourhands.com. Sony will encourage users to upload images related to their interests in a 3D gallery.
New Media Age reports that Sony will also be working with a number of children’s websites and will offer prizes such as summer holidays.
“PSP is going for a younger market, which isn’t something we’ve really done before,” SCE UK product manager Claire Backhouse stated.
“Our heartland is 16-24 year old men and always will be — they won’t be neglected in the slightest. But the summer’s game releases, such as Harry Potter and Petz, as well as the launch new PSP colours, are certainly appealing to an 8-15 year old audience.
“The hook of the campaign will be to encourage kids to come to the site, build their own world and create a community."
Though there’s still no official word, CasualGaming.biz understands that the heavily rumoured new PSP that will be revealed at E3 will be called the PSP Go! – a brand that Sony has already used for non-gaming PSP lifestyle products such as its camera accessory and travel series.

Sure, the catalog of compatible games hasn't been as hefty as we'd like, but Sony has done quite a bit right with its PlayStation 3 / PSP Remote Play feature. Modder Dashhacker (with special thanks to noted PSP hacker Dark_AleX, among others) has released Open Remote Play v1.1 beta, which lets you take that same Remote Play experience onto your Windows PC or Intel-based Mac. The caveat here is that you'll still need a PSP handy to set up the application, so don't go thinking you can bypass the portable altogether. The OS X version apparently works well, but Windows users may ample bugs -- it is beta, after all. We haven't had a chance to try it ourselves yet, but don't let that stop you from beating us to the punch -- just let us know what you think.

Natsume Inc., a worldwide developer and publisher of family-oriented video games, announced today that it is bringing an all-new RPG titled Adventures To Go to the PlayStation Portable system later this summer. The game offers a refreshing twist on the strategy RPG genre, offering gamers the opportunity to shape and customize the game's dungeons to their own liking!
"We are thrilled to be publishing Adventures To Go," said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO at Natsume. "Its whimsical storyline, strategic combat, and endless replayability should earn it a top spot on any RPG player's list!"
In this hilarious and innovative strategy RPG, players take control of Finn Courtland and his band of misfits in their quest for fame and riches. Along the way, they just might have to save the world from the evil Arbitus and his band of demons. It'll take brains as well as brawn to win the day, though; the grid-based combat challenges players to think strategically and make the best use of each character's unique skills and abilities. The strategy doesn't end there, though! Players can spend their hard-earned cash to set up the game's randomized dungeons to their liking; choose the terrain, the size of the dungeon, and the monsters that you'll face. Play it safe, or take on bigger risks for even greater rewards! Your adventure is in your hands!
Adventures To Go will make its first public appearance at next month's E3 trade show in the Los Angeles area and will ship to retail later this summer.

Dragon Ball and Naruto are back in the gaming headlines over in Japan, and it looks like owners of all three consoles can take part in the fun.
Leaked images from an upcoming issue of Jump Magazine confirm Dragon Ball Raging Blast for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as a separate Dragon Ball game (whose full name we weren't able to confirm) for the Wii.
Raging Blast looks like a fighting game in the vein of Sparking. Keywords splashed across the page include "High Speed," "Destruction" and "Wide," the latter in reference to large stages of play.
The Wii title appears to be a side scrolling action game featuring young Goku as the main character. There are some hints that the game will make use of motion controls in some capacity.
Japan will get the Wii title this Summer. The PS3 and Xbox 360 title is currently without a final date.
Even less is known about the new Naruto game, which is being developed for the Wii. The announcement actually comes in the form of a coloring contest where readers of Jump get to add color to a drawing of Naruto, with the best work making it into the final game as an optional costume.
The Jump article refers to the Naruto game as a "10th anniversary dream project." A Japanese release is planned for this Winter.
