Rumors circulated the internet yesterday regarding a supposedly leaked set of photos of Sony's "PS3 Slim." Previous hardware choices on Sony's part, including the slimmer PS2 and the PSP-2000, would suggest that Sony would eventually create a slimmer version of its powerhouse hardware, but would it be so soon after the system's launch?
Today, we received word that a trustworthy US GameStop employee discussed the matter with a Sony merchandizing representative. When the leaked photos were brought up in private conversation, the merchandizing representative was immediately surprised that the photos were "released already," but then hastily dismissed the subject when the rep realized that it was regarding a rumor. Could this reaction indicate that the PS3 Slim is more real than we originally thought?
We certainly take this information with a grain of salt, but it at least enhances the possibility that a PS3 Slim will arrive sometime in the future.

New beta here. Not that much new in the /trunk these days, due to the progress of the rewrites, but well, better release a beta once in a while anyway.
Pcsx2 beta 1190
Changelog
- Removed VU-Skip [helps simplify the frameskipper logic] -- Use the VU Cycle Stealer hack instead for better, faster, more stable speedups of the VU1 unit.
- Optimized vtlb direct path memory operations using some crafty asm code. Expect 2-3% speedups in most things, and perhaps more in some FMVs.
- Made new IopHwRead and IopHwWrite from scratch, in preparation for a new lookup-based IOP memory manager
- Apply Iop HwRegister handler changes to the EE´s mapping
- Small speedup for the EE/IOP recompilers, by removing the legacy limit on the number of recompiled blocks
- Fix xgkick delay mistake
- Improved SSE detection:
- Some unpack fixes/changes
- Fixed a typo in the SIO2 hardware read interface
- usual code cleanups and optimizations
Also, updated plugins pack.
Enjoy

When Q Entertainment is mentioned in the West they are usually associated with synesthesia music games. The studio also has stakes in cash op MMOs like Angel Love Online which got a PS3 client last year. This year Q Entertainment is giving Angel Senki the same treatment.
Angel Senki and Angel Love Online are both developed by Taiwan based UserJoy Technology. A closed beta for the PC client will start on May 27. A free PlayStation 3 client will be ready in the fall. Angel Senki costs nothing to play too, but like Angel Love Online it’s funded by cash op transactions. A US client for Angel Senki has not been announced and may not be available if publishing rights are split. This is one of the reasons the PS3 client of Angel Love Online was not released outside of Japan.

Namco Bandai announced Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny in Japan with sent out screenshots and character models. We’ll start with a rough comparison of Ivy’s model on the PSP and PS3/Xbox 360. On the PSP the bright colors are a little washed out. Otherwise the conversion is impressive.
This batch of screenshots also shows what Dampierre looks like in the game. The newly created character has switchblades on his sleeves and has a hammer throw move. Maybe. It’s hard to tell if Voldo caught Dampierre in a throw or vice versa.

Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda noted recently that the PS3's cost is still 10 percent higher than the system's price, reports Andriasang.com. With the console's price differences in each region, if Oneda is talking about Japan, that would be approximately ¥4,000 ($42). In North America the same $40 loss would also hold true.
As bad as losing money on each console manufactured sounds, it used to be worse. Just a year ago the estimate was that Sony was losing over $100 per system. Losing a couple Jacksons (four Hideyo's in Japan) per console isn't great, but it appears that Sony's costs and sales on the console are slowly finding equilibrium. Unless, of course, there's another $100 price drop in the PS3's near future.

With Cops and Robbers out of the way, Criterion is free to finish up the last of the announced Burnout Paradise premium DLC -- Big Surf Island. This is the first new locale to be introduced into the ever-evolving racing game, and it'll add 15 events and 10 online freeburn challenges to the game. Criterion is promising big air for the expansion, and completionists will want to look for all 45 Billboards hidden on the island. For comparison purposes, the original game featured 120 events and 350 freeburn challenges.
These early details come courtesy of an early look at the DLC's Trophies. (Check out the new Trophies after the break.) One particularly intriguing achievement involves getting a whopping 4.5 seconds of air time in a single jump. Who needs Burnout Planes when you have massive jumps like that?
Our very own Randy Nelson got some hands-on time with the DLC pack, but he can't report on the details quite yet. Expect a full preview on May 28th.

Sony is going PSP bundle bananas this year, releasing "Entertainment Packs" packaged with Rock Band Unplugged, Hannah Montana: Rock Out the Show and Assassin's Creed. Today we can add one more bundle to the pile.
Square Enix's Dissidia Final Fantasy is also getting the Entertainment Pack treatment, bundling the Final Fantasy-themed fighting game with a new "Mystic Silver" PSP, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children on UMD and a 2 gigabyte Memory Stick Pro Duo.
Interestingly, this package is a GameStop exclusive. It will set future PSP-3000 owners back $199.99 USD when it ships on August 25th.
Also potentially interesting is that Sony is announcing this just a few weeks before E3 kicks off. Seems like the kind of thing the company might reserve for an on-stage announcement. But maybe the press conference schedule's getting a little too packed right now...

I love a good high-def movie, and Blu-ray players are sweet. Only they're so feature rich, the discs themselves are an afterthought—DOA or relegated to a niche format reserved for the finest films.
Oh, come on—you can't tell me you don't see where this is going. Even though the format has grown 72% in the last quarter, every Blu-ray player we choose to review has an abundance of features that have nothing to do with Blu-ray. In fact, they all have to do with delivering movies in a different way, with more instant gratification.
The joke is, when we were pushing for Blu-ray 2.0 with BD-Live a year ago, we didn't realize that the ethernet port was really not about enhanced Blu-ray at all, but about video on demand. I own a few Blu-rays, like Wall-E, that have BD-Live components. Never even bothered with them. No point. But you'd be a 'tard to buy a Blu-ray player without an ethernet port, and you'd be a 'tard to buy a Blu-ray player without Netflix on demand, and at this point, another service for new-release movies, like Amazon VOD or CinemaNow.
Netflix gives me back seasons of 30 Rock and The Office in high-def. Pop quiz: Will I ever buy them on Blu-ray, or even DVD? No. I can even get stuff I'd have previously hunted down on disc, like The IT Crowd. I can get lots of the movies I previously owned on DVD instantly on demand for no cost other than the $10 monthly subscription. People don't even bitch about DRM with Netflix, because it's instant and always there, so even the copyright owners should be happy. Time Warner's boss even said he's thinking about offering a Netflix-like VOD distribution channel for HBO—nothing like all-you-can-eat Rome, Wire and Band of Brothers to kill DVD sales, and HBO still gets their mad money.
You want to talk video quality? Fine. I own The Dark Knight on Blu-ray. That movie is freakin' awesome, and I am happy to watch it on a Blu-ray player, while I sit exactly 47 inches from a 50-inch 1080p plasma television. But what about Billy Madison? I love that movie too, but I first owned it on a VHS playing in 4:3 at what you might call 240i, and I can verify that the high-def version is no funnier. In fact, instead of fishing out the HD DVD of it I have, and hooking up the HD DVD drive to my Xbox, I'd probably sooner try to find it on Netflix, in whatever video quality they're offering.
Besides, most people—most Giz readers, I'd wager—are watching "high def" movies on LCD TVs they bought at Costco for $899, so you can't tell me that they can see a difference between so-called VOD high-def and real bonafide Blu-ray high-def, even though there definitely is one.
The Criterion Collection belongs on Blu-ray. But six films by Wes Anderson, Terry Gilliam and Akira Kurosawa do not an industry make. Like our discussion of audiophiles, there's a need to preserve (and even appreciate) video at very high quality, but that need doesn't trickle down to the masses, and especially doesn't matter for every single film, or even the vast majority of middle-of-the-road movies and TV. DVDs were a hit because they were the smartest way to deliver most video in the years 1999 to 2007. Now, the smartest way to deliver most video is over broadband, not on high-density shiny discs.
Don't get me wrong. You'll buy a "Blu-ray player." Stats show many of you already are. You may even buy some Blu-ray discs, or pay the extra $2 or $3 for Netflix Blu-ray rental. But the amount of time you'll spend watching Blu-ray on it will continue to dwindle, until, maybe one day, the disc tray just refuses to open from lack of use.

THQ plans to release a Red Faction: Guerrilla demo next Thursday 21st May for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Inside will be two maps, nine weapons, five backpacks and 15 unlockable levels from the full game. The only playlist on offer will be Damage Control.
We've already had a good look at the single-player side of Red Faction: Guerrilla in a single-player demo, which THQ says has been downloaded 1m times. The game does have a story about a revolution on Mars, but it's not as fun as blowing stuff up and knocking stuff down.
That's testament to Volition's impressive physics engine underpinning the whole experience, which we're hoping will offer some interesting possibilities in multiplayer.
Red Faction: Guerrilla comes out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 5th June.

Just try to wrap your minds around this, Harmony / PS3 owners: this weekend is the last weekend that your otherwise awesome universal remote won't be able to power on your otherwise awesome Blu-ray / media player. Wild, we know. Logitech's heralded Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 -- which converts the IR blasts coming from your Harmony-branded remote to Bluetooth signals that the console understands -- is now shipping. You can pretty much take your pick of e-tailers, but the read link leads to a sweet 10 percent off promotion that'll save you a few bones compared to buying from Amazon. Whatever the case, the MSRP is $59.99, so feel free to track down the best deal in all your free time.

Hey.
So after a bit of work I bring you LuaPlayer Euphoria V2.
New Features / Improvements :
1) Speed increase. Take the below as a reference :
Sample Demo (included in v1 release, blits a 480x272 image and plays a mp3) speed benchmarks :
LuaPlayer Euphoria V1 :
Cpu Speed @222mhz
Performance : 228 FPS.
LuaPlayer Euphoria V2 :
Cpu Speed @222mhz
Performance : 263 FPS.
2) New function :
systemQuit()
Will return to the xmb if called.
Hmm..
Yeah I know I posted quoting 1045fps, I just couldn't get that build stable enough to release for now. I have some things to take care of so rather than giving you nothing, I decided to post this worthwhile update.
All the readme/function files have been updated to reflect this release.
Future :
Seen as there is a bit of interest in this, I think (might not yet) I might make my own LuaPlayer from scratch, keeping function names the same etc. Or I might just keep improving this one. I will think about it
If you would like to request a feature be added, please do so at the official forum : LuaPlayer Euphoria Forum

Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic is now available to download free of charge from the US PlayStation Network.
That's according to the US PS blog, which says all you have to do is visit the Sprint channel to get access.
A SCEE spokesperson confirmed to Eurogamer the deal will not be available on the European PSN. However, you could always be a bit cheeky and set yourself up with a US PSN ID over at PlayStation.com.
Fists of Plastic didn't do so well with the critics, scoring 6/10 on Eurogamer. Still, you know, free.

SEGA will bring tri-Ace role-playing game End of Eternity to Europe next spring under the name Resonance of Fate.
The PS3 and 360 game was unveiled in Famitsu last month, and appears to be a steampunk, gun-slinging affair with plenty of action.
At least, that's what the first Resonance of Fate screenshots seem to depict.
There are few other details, but with tri-Ace's portfolio counting games like Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, Resonance of Fate will clearly be worth watching out for.

May 15th, 2009, 17:20 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Computer Entertainment of America senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold has responded to the NPD's hardware and software sales data for April of 2009, focusing on titles slated for release on the PlayStation 3 later this year, as well as the console's non-gaming functions.
"We're revving up the new fiscal year with a broad tent of content and services across our platforms with envelope-pushing PS3 games like inFAMOUS, MAG, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," said Seybold.
While full sales data for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable titles was not disclosed by the NPD group, it should be noted that only one title for a Sony platform - EA's The Godfather II for PS3 - made an appearance on April's top ten sales list, at 91,000 units. Hardware sales for the PS3 were also down, at 127,000 units compared to 187,000 units in April 2008.
Rather than comment on these figures, Seybold discussed SCEA's marketing strategy for the remainder of the year, revealing that it will focus on the PS3's non-gaming functionality and features.
"We often hear from our customers that they're surprised by everything the PS3 does in addition to what they purchased the device for - including features like DLNA, free access to Wi-Fi and internet browser," said Seybold. "In some ways, this serves as a reminder that there's more we can do to relay the full breadth and power of the PS3.
"We know our consumers have varying entertainment lifestyles from the Blu-ray movie fanatic to photo enthusiast, so we've outlined our most aggressive marketing plans to help showcase this tremendous value proposition to all our consumers.
"We've got a proven history in delivering the best entertainment experience and there is no doubt the PlayStation brand is staged for another big year."

Got a bit of couch cushion change weighing you down? Need a little something to revitalize that PS3 love affair? You've come to the right place, friend. SNK has just unleashed a new duo of fighting sticks over in Japan, and both are downright drool-worthy. The new controllers are being launched alongside King of Fighters XII this July, with one featuring artwork from the title and the second boasting a Neo Geo throwback vibe (pictured after the jump) that should resonate quite well with gamers of yesteryear. The tandem is priced at ¥6,279 ($65) and ¥5,229 ($54), respectively, though we get the feeling it'll be import or bust for us Yanks.
