Gamesmaster has awarded Rockstar's GTA: Episodes from Liberty City a massive 97 percent in its latest edition ahead of the game's release on Friday.
The mag makes particular note of the way the DLC bundle manages to take GTA IV build on its foundations so effectively, "Both titles take GTA IV's canvas and paint their own colours right over the top until they look like a different piece of art altogether."
There's very little criticism to be had but Gamesmaster singled out 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' as the highlight of the package saying. "Gay Tony's colourful characters and ludicrously surreal scenarios take GTA back to the cartoonish highs of early titles such as Vice City, in the process steamrolling over the only real criticism you could levy at the original GTA IV."

SONY just gave a statement about their decision to remove OtherOS from Playstation3 consoles via the new 3.21 firmware update.
Here the quote:
We are sorry if users of Linux or other operating systems are disappointed by our decision to issue a firmware upgrade which when installed disables this operating system feature.
A very poor sorry which won't help tons of people. Even official developers are mad about this decision but well, that's SONY.
We have made the decision to protect the integrity of the console and whilst mindful of the impact on Linux or other operating system users we nevertheless felt it would be in the best interests of the majority of users to pursue this course of action.
It's definitely NOT.
As you will be aware we have upgraded and enhanced functionality and features of the console by numerous firmware upgrades over time and this is a very rare instance where a feature will be disabled. Further enhancements are in the pipeline.
That won't help us neither.
Users do have the choice whether to install the firmware upgrade and this is clearly explained to them at the time the firmware upgrade is made available for installation. Furthermore our terms and conditions clearly state that we have the right to revise the PS3's settings and features in order to prevent access to unauthorised or pirated content.
To bad electronic terms and conditions
are not legal in European countries, eh'?
Well, all in all this was a step of SONY to piss off many users. For those who already upgraded it's to late, for those who did not recording to geohot, he will release a custom firmware 3.21 which will still have the OtherOS feature. Let's see what the future will bring.

PSP Post It is a useful plugin coder pyroesp, which allows us to see the brief notes in the XMB custom is that when running a game programming at certain times through a txt file in our memory stick. The operation is very simple, we decide the date and time in which we want our text to be displayed and scriviamolo into file predetermined time appear the "post it" warning.
To avoid accidental errors the plugin will alert you of any problems setting allowing us to quickly correct them, the only flaw is that you must restart the PSP to make your changes.

God of War 3 was actually bigger during the alpha stages of production, director Stig Asmussen has revealed.
Speaking in an interview with Destructoid, Asmussen admitted that God of War III had to be substantially cut before release.
"It was around Alpha, and it was bigger," he said. "It was too big, and it wasn't as tight as it could possibly be. And we had to cut some things out, just to make sure that we got the quality across the board." Included in the pieces left on the cutting room floor were extra areas and even complete boss levels.
"We had a creature named Argus who had a hundred eyes, and he was a creature that was designed to have use the Helios head to defeat him," said Asmussen. "You had to make him close his eyes, and he'd get blinded. You couldn't defeat him unless he's blind, and then he'd go into this kind of blind rage, and you had to fight him. He was fun. It was fun."
"[Argus] was going to be another surprise thing. You know how we had kind of secrets where you could use the Helios head to find them? We were going to have those secrets paced out so you find four or five of those, and you'd get a chest in each one.
"Then in one, we were going to have basically a reveal where you'd expect to see a chest there -- setting up expectations and then breaking it -- and out of the darkness this Argus would leap out, and you'd have to fight him." If you haven't played this behemoth of a game yet, read our God of War 3 review to get an idea of just how massive it is. It's big.

Wondering what Sony's going to call that PlayStation Move sub-controller -- you know, since "nunchuk" is already taken? Wonder no more. Sony part number CECH-ZCS1U just hit the FCC's database, and "Navigation Controller" is written in nice bold letters right there on the label. It's looking like this is official, as the Sony US website has been quietly updated with the change, and we think it makes a certain amount of sense, as most 3D games let you aim the camera with your dominant hand and relegate navigation to the other. Like the Motion Controller, Sony's opted for confidentiality on this one, meaning we won't have photos of the controller's juicy guts for six months, but hey, at least you already know what the outsides look like

Shuhei Yoshida, head of SCE Worldwide Studios, has promised PS3 Move will deliver a range of experiences that will appeal to hardcore audiences.
Speaking to Edge, the exec said that the company's focus is split "50:50" between making Move appeal to a wider audience, and making traditional games work in a different way.
"The precision of the Move system allows game designers to create games as simulations and games with much more depth than other motion-based game experiences," he said.
"We are sure that hardcore gamers will appreciate and enjoy the challenge, with a much finer control over how they interact with the game and achieve greater success in those games.
"It was very interesting to hear comments by a certain journalist who tried Sports Champions' table tennis, who clearly enjoyed playing the game but complained about the lack of perceived one-to-one control at certain times," he added.
"During the GDC event we were showing the game's entry-level mode, which includes a lot of assists to ensure that everyone who plays the game for the first time can enjoy it. However, we plan to have in the final game a more simulation-based mode, which will allow expert users to really try out their skills. That promises to be a hardcore experience."
SCEE's head of developer services, Kish Hirani, also told Edge that the arrival of Move means he won't be playing RTS or FPS games on PC any longer. There's more through the link.

April 11th, 2010, 22:18 Posted By: wraggster
Recently, Sony slammed the door on Linux on the PS3, which ironically invited in a slew of hackers salivating for a challenge. The hacker community claimed taking functionality away was a call to arms. They wanted to retaliate against the corporate bad guys like in The Matrix.
But what about those other game systems they've hacked? What did Xbox 360, PSP, Wii, or the DS ever do to them? Remove any features? No. Nothing. Yet they are among the most heavily pirated systems right now.
So are these hackers really looking out for the best interests of the consumers? Maybe. But mostly not. It certainly justifies their actions in the public arena and garners them support. But the reason behind hacking is a simple truth that is not much discussed. Considering that the legality of it all lies in favor with Sony, who are the intellectual and copyright holders, hackers are committing felony by taking away profits from them and account for untold losses in sales. That is why hackers take on the Robin Hood persona in order to gain endorsement and validation from the public.
This is not to say that the existence of hackers is devoid of any benefit. Far from it. Now I'm not talking about getting free games here, although the public mistakenly perceives that as the sole purpose of hackers. It is not. It may be a small motivating force and the impact is undeniably enormous, but believe or not, hackers do what they do for deeper reasons. They are not here for the freeloaders. Their work does open the door to piracy, the negative consequences of which are constantly portrayed in the media, but hackers themselves do not profit from piracy.
For some hackers, their reward is notoriety. There may be those out there that honestly want to rally against corporate greed. But let's lay out the truth -- the simple and greatest motivation for hacking is simply the challenge and experience they get from cracking these seemingly unhackable systems. These accomplishments may translate into real jobs with the very same game companies they've "rebelled" against.
Hackers (a broad term I'll use to include homebrew programmers) provide an unheralded service to game companies that isn't readily nor officially recognized. They are the world's ultimate beta-testers, bug-finders, innovators, and super computer programmers that normal and legal avenues of talent search will not find. Corporate job head hunters can't post hacking skills in their job descriptions, but they sure can scour the internet (and essentially the world) for the 1 or 5th percentile of super intelligent programming geniuses and recruit them for work at Sony, MS, or Nintendo.
The ugly truth is that hackers have advanced the game industry. For all the damages they've done, they have repaid it by dragging game corporations into the digital age. Where would downloadable games and DLC be, without the homebrew and emulation scene? Where will voice chat, friends lists, and all those other features you've grown to love on Xbox LIVE be without the hackers? Save states were a common feature on emulators long before PSP finally implemented their version in a recent firmware update.
Does Sony have a right to take away features from PS3? Some may say yes -- a necessary evil to combat piracy. Low game sales kills your favorite game studios and independents. Microsoft regularly takes out the ban hammer instead of stripping any functionality though. It is certainly within each corporation's power to protect themselves however they see fit, but morally it is a gray area and may be a legal issue in of itself, one that likely will never be challenged in the court of law in a civil action suit, but does damage their credibility with consumers. Will taking out Linux work? No. What they have done is issue a challenge to hackers. Any everybody loves a challenge!

Six months ago, Sony launched the PSP Go in a desperate attempt to reboot the PSP brand. The sky is still blue. The grass is still green. The PSP still lags behind the Nintendo DS. Even in Japan, where the PSP has traditionally seen a great deal of success, the PSP Go has struggled.
Enterbrain(parent company of Famitsu) CEO Hirokazu Hamamura recently spoke about the PSP's performance in a marketing seminar. Though he has high hopes for the upcoming Monster Hunter 3, he seemed pretty cynical of the PSP. Hamamura said the PSP was destined to be a platform that would only be viable in Japan.
Hamamura was particularly down on the PSP Go. He said that the revision was worse than the Bandai-manufactured WonderSwan. Hamamura said the system's cramped design scheme made it hard to play games, especially the popular Monster Hunter games.
Hamamura predicted that Monster Hunter 3 would be the best selling PSP game of all time, and expects the game to sell 5 million copies over its lifetime.
Many analysts are predicting that Sony will announce a successor to the PSP at the upcoming E3 expo in June.

Froggyman The developer has released a new revision, the 481, to the Daedalus X64, the only emulator of the Nintendo 64 PSP on the scene. Although this release, introducing some minor changes necessary to improve the overall stability of the emulator, has been recognized as official by the development team, as was done for the previous build. I remember the revision 430, to start the homebrew you need a PSP with custom firmware 3.71M33 least.
Following the full changelog and download link.
Changelog:
Quote:
Rev481:
- Revert back sqrtf (vfpu_sqrtf is a lot slower, thx for pointing out Hardhat and IWN)
- A couple of minor changes
Rev480:
- Debug build compiles again
- Small clean up
Rev479:
- Huge code clean up
- More math VFPU

April 11th, 2010, 12:22 Posted By: wraggster
Sony has apologised for the row surrounding the removal of the Install Other OS function from older PlayStation 3 consoles.
We asked Sony UK to respond to reports that at least one user had received a partial refund from Amazon UK in compensation for the fact that part of the device's advertised functionality had been removed.
A Sony spokesman told us:
We are sorry if users of Linux or other operating systems are disappointed by our decision to issue a firmware upgrade which when installed disables this operating system feature. We have made the decision to protect the integrity of the console and whilst mindful of the impact on Linux or other operating system users we nevertheless felt it would be in the best interests of the majority of users to pursue this course of action.
As you will be aware we have upgraded and enhanced functionality and features of the console by numerous firmware upgrades over time and this is a very rare instance where a feature will be disabled. Further enhancements are in the pipeline.
Users do have the choice whether to install the firmware upgrade and this is clearly explained to them at the time the firmware upgrade is made available for installation. Furthermore our terms and conditions clearly state that we have the right to revise the PS3's settings and features in order to prevent access to unauthorised or pirated content.
Whilst we fully understand why Sony has decided to remove this function from the PS3 OS, and that users are free not to install the firmware upgrade, we also understand that not installing the latest firmware will prevent users from accessing a number of online services including the Playstation Network.
We're also not quite clear how Sony's EULA can be used to contravene European Directive 1999/44/EC which quite clearly states that goods must be be "fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase".
We're pretty sure the proportion of users who bought a PS3 for its ability to run Linux is tiny compared to the many millions in circulation, but they are a vocal minority to say the least.
Our readers are asking us why Sony can, despite EU law, remove an advertised and documented part of the system to protect its own interests.
We'd also like to know whether Sony will be reimbursing Amazon and other retailers for any further refunds they are forced to offer under the law.
We've put these questions to Sony UK and await a response.
We have also spoken to the Office of Fair Trading and Consumer Direct who tell us they cannot comment until an official complaint has been made.

For the dozens of you interested in the NCAA Football franchise returning to PSP in 2010, today's news of the 2011 iteration of the game not heading to Sony's handheld is likely a pretty major bummer. On one hand, you were probably expecting it when yesterday's announcement of Tim Tebow as the cover athlete didn't include the PSP on its list of consoles (also absent was the Nintendo Wii), but on the other hand, there's been a PSP release for the last two years. IGN confirmed the lack of a PSP version release with EA, who subsequently confirmed an iPhone App Store release. So there's something, right? Right?

Face it: Sony's backed you into a corner. You can't play PS3 online without downloading the 3.21 firmware update, but if you download, your precious 'Other OS' is forfeit -- and there may be side effects. You could wait it out, hoping Geohot comes through with a workaround. You could even sue Sony for a refund if you live in Europe. Or, if you're not terribly worried about the security of your PSN account and personal information, you could instead input just ten digits into your PS3 and magically bypass the entire issue. Though technically minded individuals have been skirting Sony's firmware checks for years now using private proxies, homebrew developer Aaron Lindsay decided to set up a public server at 67.202.81.137, which allows anyone to piggyback on his success in mere seconds -- we tried it ourselves, and it worked like a charm. By doing so, you run the risk of giving Aaron all your credentials... but if the odd identity theft doesn't break your stride, you can jump right back into that Uncharted 2 session by entering the above number into Internet Connection Settings > DNS Setting > Primary DNS.

Sales of PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavy Rain have hit one million copies, according to Quantic Dream co-founder David Cage - a number that has greatly exceeding publisher estimates.
Speaking to German website Play3.de, as reported by VG247, Cage indicated that initial sales predictions for the title had stood at only 200,000 to 300,000 units.
"We have sold more than 1 million copies of Heavy Rain worldwide," said Cage. "That was a surprise to many … we estimate that by the end of the year, we will have sold 1.5 million copies, and are very pleased with the reception."
"Our game isn't an action game, it's not a role-playing game, [and] it's not an adventure. It isn't in any one genre. When you create a new, convention-busting game to the market, it's always a risk, both for the developer and the publisher," he added.
The game was supported by a strong television advertising campaign in Europe, as well as being featured in an official PlayStation 3 hardware bundle in some territories.
