Konami has announced the first PES Virtual UEFA Champions League competition.
Registration for the European competition, which takes into account competitive online games of PES 2014 played on PS3, kicks off today and will offer entrants the chance to take part in "a series of very special events".
According to Konami: "The League is free for anyone to join, and collates all the data from thousands of matches to create a definitive overview of form and results.
"Player results are automatically collected via the Konami online game data, and posted in the PES League leader boards, where players can view all previous results, form information and match data."
Main competition prizes include €25,000 in cash prizes from Konami, and additional items supplied by PlayStation, UEFA and their official partners, including UEFA Champions League Final experiences.
Success in the PES Virtual UEFA Champions League will secure spaces in further global PES competitions, while Konami is also running a new UEFA Youth League PES Event.
To register, or to find out more information about the PES Virtual UEFA Champions League competition, visit the PES League website.
Last week, Konami announced new PES 2014 DLC in the form of the World Challenge pack for PS3 and Xbox 360.

A Sony rep has said that the platform holder is 'considering' bringing pre-loading functionality to PS4 following reports last week of the feature supposedly coming in April.
A series of posts on the official Twitter account of Infamous Second Son developer Sucker Punch Productions claimed last week that a pre-loading feature will be enabled on PS4 in North America in April. Sony itself is yet to confirm such plans.
Speaking with Polygon today, a Sony rep was unwilling to confirm that the feature is planned for an April update, or any update, admitting only that the feature was being 'considered'.
"We know that it is the feature you've been asking for and we are considering it accordingly," said the rep.
"We do not have specific details to announce at this point in time, but stay tuned for upcoming announcements about system updates and added features."
Pre-loading, a feature previously employed on PS3 and used prominently on Steam for PC, allows users to digitally purchase and pre-download a game via the PlayStation Store ahead of its official launch. The pre-downloaded files remain unplayable until midnight on launch day, at which point the content is instantly unlocked, allowing players quicker access to anticipated titles.
A PS4 system update due for release "in the coming weeks" will add a number of features aimed at users who want to share gameplay footage online including a "rich video editor" and a new option enabling the exporting of saved clips and screenshots to USB drives.
Additionally, the PS4 firmware update will include a 'HDCP off' option, allowing players to deactivate capture protection and stream gameplay footage through HDMI using a capture card.
The option to dim the DualShock 4 light bar is also promised.

Blue Estate is switching the gesture controls of Leap Motion for the gyroscopic functions of the DualShock 4, after developer HeSaw revealed it's bringing the on-rails shooter to the PS4. HeSaw is showcasing the PS4 version at GDC this week, and revealed on Twitter it'ss bring the former Leap Motion exclusive to "more platforms to be announced soon."
In our review of the Leap Motion version released last year, Jess Conditt gaveBlue Estate two stars out of five. While Jess noted fans may enjoy a new way of experiencing the Image-published comic the game's based on, she said, "Blue Estate doesn't give its audience enough credit, assuming players will get a kick out of shooting enemies in the crotch, watching a strip show and making fun of how people look – assuming we'll forgive poor gameplay mechanics because the game is supposed to be crass."

Brits who have yet to pick up Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes may suddenly find the admittedly short game more attractive thanks to an unexpected PlayStation Network price cut.
Originally, the digital incarnation of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes featured a £29.99 price tag, identical to the price attached to the physical, retail version of the game. Currently however, the game is marked at £24.99, making the digital game the more attractive offer for those who don't mind a lack of packaging materials. Unfortunately for Xbox One owners, this discount is Sony's doing, so the digital version of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes found on the Xbox One remains at £29.99.
Now, the question becomes whether Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is worth that discounted price point. In our review Ludwig praised almost every aspect of the game, but decried its brevity. "Too good to be a cash-in, too calculated to be satisfying and too intriguing to spurn, Ground Zeroes is a fiscal test of patience," he wrote.

Abe's Oddysee may not be the only game in Lorne Lanning's Oddworld series to be getting a makeover - Lanning told Eurogamer at this year's Game Developers Conference that he'd like to bring the 2005 Xbox title Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath to the PlayStation 4. Stranger's Wrath HD already exists on the PlayStation 3 and Vita, but Lanning said this version would be "a new SKU with some new dynamics."
Of course, wanting something doesn't necessarily make it so. "We're still going over budgets and schedules and stuff like that," Lanning cautioned. This makes sense, considering Lanning also stated that the upcoming Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty would need to sell at least a quarter of a million units to fund more HD translations of the franchise.

Microsoft and Xbox won't be the only producers of original television contentaimed at console owners this generation. Variety reports that Sony Pictures Television will be producing an original series called "Powers," which will air via the PlayStation Network.
Powers will be an adaptation of a long-running comic of the same name, written by Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy) and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming (Judge Dredd, Catwoman). The comic mixes crime drama and superhero fantasy, sort of like Law & Order, if Jack McCoy was prosecuting Magneto.
Bendis and Oeming will also serve as producers for the show, which currently has 10 episodes in the works. No release date was given for Powers.

In a Puppeteer postmortem peppered with prickly punditry, Sony Computer Entertainment's Gavin Moore gave attendees of the Game Developers Conference a small idea of what he and his team hope to craft next. Coming offPuppeteer, a dark and clever PlayStation 3 platformer carved from the world of theater, Moore intends to pitch and pursue three to four smaller games beyond the borders of retail stores.
"I think we're too reliant on stores to sell our products for us," Moore said. Though Puppeteer failed to find a large audience – "not a disaster by any way," he added – it seems to have spurred a serious rethink of retail, marketing and the backbreaking work of creating a unique and polished game. Moore intends to "make three or four products at once, and put them up on the net somewhere for people to download.

GDC 2014: Beta to start in three to four weeks
Open-source game development framework MonoGame will be free for all registered PS4 developers.
The news was confirmed to Develop by project lead Steve Williams. It had previously been suggested there may be a cost attached to the tool for PS4 support "due to the proprietary nature of console development", but this will not be the case.
The MonoGame PS4 beta will begin in approximately three to four weeks.
MonoGame is based on the Microsfoxt XNA Framework and was first tipped to come to PS4 in October last year. As well as Sony's console, the engine is also free for iOS, Android, Mac, Linux and Windows 8.
The first PS4 title to take advantage of the engine is Matt Makes Games' Towerfall: Ascension. Other upcoming games using the framework include Tribute Games' Mercenary Kings and Supergiant Games' Transistor.
Sony also recently announced that an early access version of Unity for PS4 will be available next month and that GameMaker will now be free for all PS4, PS3 and Vita developers.

A Project Morpheus unit on show at Sony’s GDC stand.
I’m looking nervously around within Sony London’s Project Morpheus demo The Deep, dreading the inevitable shark attack. My heart is pounding and my palms are sweating. It’s genuinely troubling; the glistening, undulating surface above is fading from view as we descend ever deeper, and when I see broken bits of wood and other debris floating gently down from the vessel’s damaged hull, I know the shark has claimed its first victim. I’m next. Before it appears, I’m afforded a little time to take in the view, though my surroundings are slowly turning from a light-dappled azure to a deeper, darker shade of blue-black. Shoals of fish startle when they dart before my eyes as I look around, admiring the undersea flora. When I am asked to look downwards and bend my knees, my in-game avatar obliges too – a trick made possible by Morpheus’ head tracking tech. Without thinking, I move my feet around expecting a similar effect, though of course my virtual body stays still; full-body tracking will surely come as this fledgling medium continues its rapid evolution.Just as the heavy sense of anticipation threatens to overwhelm, the shark appears. It is oddly reassuring to see it glide about the ocean, the cheap shock I’d been fearing swapped for a strange kind of peace as I watch the animal swim about, smaller prey wisely dodging its path. The DualShock 4 in my right hand is replicated in the demo through the tracking of its light bar; looking down at my virtual diver’s arm, I twist and turn the pad and press its R2 trigger to fire out a flare, attracting the attention of the shark. Oops.It attacks the surrounding cage, easily ripping off my only protection to open its jaws and devour me whole; as the demo ends, I hand back the headset and controller shaking a little. It’s a dazzling demonstration of Project Morpheus’ ability to immerse you in a situation, and this is just an early prototype and a tech demo.

This is a brave new world for games retail.
Gamers have become accustomed to paying more for digital titles, despite the fact that logic should dictate that a digital product – which is free of material, logistics and distribution costs – should retail for less.
But that may no longer be the case.
Sony has told MCV that the price cut to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PS4 on PSN revealed this morning is its own initiative that, according to a Sony UK spokesperson, “is trying to be more competitive [as the] store price is around £30”.
The source also pointed out that the digital version of InFamous: Second Son is £49.99, which is cheaper than some High Street stores.
Konami separately confirmed that it had no involvement in Ground Zeroes’ drop from £29.99 to £24.99.
It’s an interesting development after a generation of consoles where platform holders were nervous of undercutting the High Street, on which it previously placed so much dependence and had, for want of a better description, to ‘keep onside’.
That this sentiment has at the least reduced in importance is a big indicator that platform holders are now looking ahead to a time where its reliance on physical retail is significantly lessened.
Microsoft last month slashed the digital price of Xbox One title Ryse: Son of a Rome in a move it admitted was a direct attempt to compete with High Street retail rivals.

SingStar is getting a rival on PS3.
It’s called SingOn and uses streaming technology that allows users to access its song library. It comes with a variety of payment options including three and 48 hour passes for £2.99 and £5.99 respectively.
A one-year pass will be available for £49.99. The SingOn download itself is free.
A library including “thousands of rock, pop, indie, dance and hip-hop classics” is promised along with weekly content updates including the entirety of the UK Top 20.
It seems as if official music videos are not used, although this should ensure better streaming functionality. A ‘RoboOn’ re-tuning affect will also be available.
Furthermore, users will be able to queue up tracks using either the PS3 controller or smartphone/tablet iOS and Android companion app while the game is being played.
SingOn will launch with ten free-to-play tracks some time this spring.

PlayStation 4 consoles will be available in limited supply at retailers into the summer.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House told the Wall Street Journal that demand for the system has been high across the board, and in particular in the U.S. and Europe, since the console first launched in November.
"We're struggling to keep up with demand," House said. "Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we'll be closer to a full supply situation."
PlayStation 4 had sold 6 million units worldwide as of early March. The NPD Group reported that sales of Sony's latest home console doubled those of Xbox One in January.
Sony plans to release a new virtual reality headset exclusively for PS4, currently titled Project Morpheus. You can read our thoughts on Morpheus in our hands-on preview.
Upcoming updates to the console will enable dimming the lightbar, improve its sharing and streaming options, and Infamous studio Sucker Punch says support for pre-loading downloadable games will be added in April.

Luftrausers developer Vlambeer claims the game has become profitable after just two days on sale.
Published by Devolver Digital, Luftrausers was released on March 18 for PC, PS3, and Vita. In the game, players take control of a single airplane and take out enemy aircraft, performing death-defying loops and bombing runs to do so.
In a post on the official Vlambeer Twitter page, the studio said the game is already profitable. "It had a two and a half year development cycle. We are super overwhelmed and thankful."
The title has been positively received by critics too, garnering Metascores of 82 and 81 on PC and PS3 respectively.
Last year Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail said the company's relationship with Sony was the main driving force behind the decision to release Luftrausers on PSN.
"We'll be honest with you, the reason this game is going to hit PS3 and Vita is because we loved working with Sony when we made Super Crate Box," he said.

Rocksteady has provided new details on the various villains that will feature in Batman: Arkham Knight.
In a discussion with GameInformer, art director David Hego outlined some of the challenges involved in re-imagining the Dark Knight's gallery of rogues for a third time.
"We tried to add something to the characters so you're still excited about them even after meeting them for the third time," he said.
"Every time, we make them look better and better and better, but at the same time, how can we improve the story behind them?"
Lead character artist Albert Feliu also offered some colour for returning villains Penguin, Two Face and Riddler: "In Arkham City, [Penguin's] a collector. He works out of a museum and he looks like he's in the mafia.
"This time, we went for autumnal mafia," Feliu added, alluding to the fact that previous entries in the series have taken place in winter periods.
"We took the coat off, and the concept of Penguin was more of a dirty dude. Obviously his shirt is rolled up and sweaty, and he has food stains on it. But still, he's really powerful.
"He's got a golden chain, as well. We had to be a bit crazy with this character, and working with his design. And we shaved his head. He's proper filthy, you know. It makes you want to punch him even more."
Meanwhile, Arkham Knight's Two Face is presented much in line with previous incarnations, since Rocksteady was happy with those designs.
"With Two Face, we thought he was a really strong character already," said Feliu. "We just rolled up his sleeves and made him look really next-gen. We took some references of really filthy, burnt flesh - which is what we do most of the time, which is quite cool - and tried to make him look as badass as we could."
Finally, Feliu said Riddler will have more of a presence in Arkham Knight. "In Arkham City, you never really saw him that much. This time around, you see him throughout the game, and he evolves."
As a character, Edward Nigma will also evolve over the course of the game, and this is something the studio has kept in mind when designing him.
"If you had to work overtime, for example, you would start the night with your jumper on and everything, and as the time went by you'd probably take your jumper off, open your shirt, take your tie off, have a coffee.
"The Riddler is a character who has a cool framework, and we didn't want to change it too much - we like his shirts with question marks and silly glasses and greasy hair."
Billed as the "explosive finale" to the Arkham series, Arkham Knight will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2014.
The game takes place one year after the events of Arkham City, when Batman is at the very peak of his powers, with all the villains teaming up to take him down. Players will also be able to get behind the wheel of the Batmobile for the first time in the series.

Ben Heckendorn, an electronics hobbyist and hardware mod specialist, has created a one-handed DualShock 4 controller to open up PS4 gaming to those with disabilities.
The one-handed DS4 controller is Heckendorn's latest hardware project, after having similarly modded an Xbox 360 controller, and created a portable Ouya.
"By moving the left analogue stick to the rear of the controller, the player is able to use their leg to maneuver the controller," CVG was told by a representative of 'The Ben Heck Show'. "The shoulder buttons and D-pad have also be rewired to the right side of the controller."

Footage has emerged of Borderlands 2 running on PlayStation Vita. The gameplay was filmed by AtomixVG at GDC 2014, where the shooter's upcoming handheld port is currently being shown off.Just over four minutes of gameplay footage lies below, taken from the game's Southern Shelf Bay region. The level itself takes a while to load - around 30 seconds - although the game is running from a debug version of the Vita, so the wait time isn't necessarily indicative of the final experience.Borderlands 2 originally launched to a warm reception on home consoles back in September 2012. The game's PlayStation Vita port was announced last year but still lacks an official release date.
