Flippfly’s minimalistic endless runner Race the Sun is getting the PlayStation treatment.
Having been released on PC last year and more recently on Steam, the game is now due for release on PS4, PS3 and Vita this summer.
It will be a cross-but title and also support cross-save.
“There’s just something about going fast,” Flippfly co-founder San Filippo said on the PlayStation Blog. “The desire for speed seems to be ingrained in our very nature. Race the Sun is our attempt to distill that desire into its basic form — to strip away all pretense and let players experience pure, brutal speed. Building a game with this goal in mind took a lot of trial, error, and some new ideas.
“Making this game has been crazy, interesting, stressful, and fun, but we feel like we’ve accomplished what we set out to do. The simple, arcade-inspired heart is still there, but there are layers of complexity that let skilled players advance and get higher scores. The core experience has remained centred on that feeling of pure, deadly speed.”

Following its initial debut at the end of last month, DICE has now revealed thatBattlefield 4's platoons are available to anyone playing the game, whether they paid extra for a Premium membership or not.
Though the developer has saddled the feature with a genre-appropriate name, the "platoons" found in Battlefield 4 are essentially identical to the "clans" found in many other online games. Each platoon features a unique name tag and emblem, as well as a private Battlelog feed. Up to 100 players can join a single platoon, and each virtual soldier's success on the battlefield will contribute to the group's overall rank.
Those hoping to create their own platoon of hardened online warriors will find full details under the "Home" tab on the Battlelog website, while those hoping to join a ready-made group of likeminded virtual killers should pay a visit to the "Platoons" section of the Battlefield 4forums.

A list of non-functioning (for now) links point towards the kind of rental options users can expect from the PlayStation Now streaming service. MP1st andPSNStores spotted links for 1-day, 7-day, and 30-day rentals of Atlus' romantic puzzler Catherine, and when PSNStores tried to purchase one of the rentals, it found "Catherine PS Now" in its transaction history.
The links follows the clues laid out on a PS Now concept image published byGaikai (via VG247) earlier in the week. Certain tiles displayed low prices for PS3 games - Uncharted 3 at $5, Far Cry 3 at $6 - perhaps an indication of the service's base prices for rentals.
PlayStation Now is expected to see a full rollout sometime this summer, letting users rent games individually or pay for a subscription to the service. Developed by Gaikai, who Sony acquired for $380 million two years ago, PS Now lets users stream PS1, PS2, and PS3 games on PS4, PS3, Vita, Bravia TV, and other unannounced devices.

Developer Naughty Dog revealed today that its PS3-exclusive post-pandemic survival game The Last of Us has sold more than six million copies worldwide since its launch in June last year.
The latest sales figure likely includes digital purchases and copies of The Last of Us packaged with PlayStation 3 consoles, including last year's Amazon Black Friday bundle. The Last of Ustopped Joystiq's list of the best games released across all platforms in 2013.
Naughty Dog's announcement follows up on last month's launch of The Last of Us' "Left Behind" DLC, and accompanies recent reports stating that an upcoming film adaptation will stick closely to the game's storyline.

For those that missed Class of Heroes 2 last year -- which is understandable, since it was a PSP game released in 2013 -- it was a particularly thorny dungeon crawler in the Etrian Odyssey mold made by Acquire. Class of Heroes 2G is a PlayStation 3 remake of that game, adding new art, dungeons, and characters on top of the original weird story of demons and adventurers attending a magic school.
2G was originally released in Japan back in 2010 so it's strange enough that GaijinWorks is bringing it to the US now, and stranger still that it comes with brand new features. This trailer demonstrates how players can use their PSP or PS Vita as a second screen for character maintenance and dungeon maps via he portables' Remote Play feature. For an exploration-centric RPG, better access to maps is always welcome.
GaijinWorks and publisher MonkeyPaw will release Class of Heroes 2G will be available on PSN "soon." It also may get an extremely limited print run depending on the results of an upcoming poll on GaijinWorks' website.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons director Josef Faras is working on a new project, but it isn't with developer Starbreeze. Speaking to Digital Spy during a roundtable interview, Faras said, "I can tell you this: If I tell you the idea now, you'd say, 'I haven't played something like this before.' I can't tell you more. But definitely something that hasn't been done before."
Faras was speaking at last night's BAFTA awards in London, where Brotherswon the gong for Best Innovation. We also caught up with the Lebanon-born director and asked when he came up with mapping control of one brother to the left analogue stick, and the other brother to the right one - an idea that probably contributed to Brothers winning its award.
"It was the first day," Faras told Joystiq. "I had to fight so hard to make this game happen. So the first time I got the chance to make a demo, actually I was sat at my motel room and I came up with the concept and the actual story. I mean everything, how it starts, how it ends, how you control, that was all from day 1. Of course it changed during development, but trying to convince all the studios that this was gonna be awesome...
"I'm quite known in Sweden for making movies, so people were like, 'You're a movie maker, you don't know anything about games.' But eventually I convinced them. I've worked on this game two years, it's been a real passion project for me."
We're glad he convinced them, too: The PS3, Xbox 360, and PC game scoredthird place in our Best of 2013 awards, with Mike Suzsek calling its emotional adventure "a true rarity, as it places the gravity of its compact story right in your hands."

March 12th, 2014, 22:36 Posted By: wraggster
Sony's long-rumoured PS4 virtual reality headset will be revealed at the Game Developers Conference next week, a new report claims.
Backing up previous reports suggesting Sony intends to showcase VR hardware at the San Francisco event, Edge claims to have received confirmation of the platform holder's plans from multiple developer sources.
The site has been told that select third party studios are already in possession of a prototype Sony headset described as "far superior to Oculus Rift's first incarnation, though that is expected to even out a little with the arrival of Rift's new, more advanced Crystal Cove devkit".
The headset will reportedly be revealed during Sony's GDC session next Tuesday, March 18. 'Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment' will be presented by SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, SCEA R&D senior director Richard Marks, and SCEA R&D senior software engineer Anton Mikhailov.
CVG understands that Sony had originally intended to debut the Oculus Rift-like device at Gamescom in August 2013, but delayed the reveal until September's Tokyo Games Show, before again pushing it back in order to allow more time to develop the hardware before offering it up for public scrutiny.
A games developer familiar with Sony's plans, who wished to remain anonymous, recently told CVG that Evolution Studios is currently working with the device to simulate a cockpit view on its PS4 title DriveClub.

Super Smash Bros. and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai is impressed by PS4's physical design and graphical potency.
Sakurai said in his regular column for Famitsu, translated by Gematsu, that he does not "care for faction wars like Nintendo versus [Sony Computer Entertainment]".
"PlayStation 4 is good-looking, the DualShock 4 is light and using it feels good, Remote Play can reliably handle even action games, and the network functionality is well done. The machine power is another attractive factor, there is no loss of detail in the image, and it looks so natural and spontaneous that you often forget that you're playing a game."
Sakurai said it's good for everyone "if creators can make stylish games without putting in a ton of time on that. I hope that a masterpiece will come with bells tolling. This is definitely not a period that will leave us without the possibility of playing rich games."
Sakurai's current project is Smash Bros. 4, which is headed to both Wii U and 3DS. We've assembled a complete guide to the new faces and features series fans can expect to find when it releases this year.
Sony may showcase a new direction for PS4's visuals next week if reports of a PS4 virtual reality headset reveal at GDC prove accurate.

any have taken issue with Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes's steep price of £19.99 - £29.99, but Sony is sweetening the pot by allowing PSN pre-orders of the game to come with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD.Unfortunately, the PS4's EU PlayStation Store doesn't even have Ground Zeroes available to pre-order, so it looks like this offer is PS3-only - though we're checking with Sony to get confirmation that this isn't also coming to PS4.All things considered, this is still a pretty sweet deal. Since Ground Zeroes is a direct sequel to Peace Walker, it's the game most vital to playing before this impending release. I found Peace Walker a noble experiment for the series and noted in my Metal Gear Solid HD Collection review that Peace Walker HD was "not quite as memorable or surprising as its console counterparts," but was "nevertheless a welcome change of pace that complements its console brethren well."This promotion is only valid until MGS5: Ground Zeroes launches on 20th March.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Wizorb developer Tribute Games' upcoming side-scrolling shooter Mercenary Kings is coming to PS4 on 2nd April in Europe and 1st April in North America.
Furthermore, Mercenary Kings is launching on PC and Mac via Steam on 25th March. It will retain its current Early Access price of £11.99 / $14.99 for its first week on sale. The retro action game supports up to four-player co-op - both local and online - as players live out their 80s action movie fantasies by annihilating ridiculously acronymed terrorists (in this case Cyber Loyalist Active Weapons, aka CLAW) before they can use their macguffin Mandrake Formula to take over the world.Like Borderlands before it, Mercenary Kings' weapons are its main draw and roughing up evil-doers will encompass using an arsenal of over 300 gun parts and more than 100 knives. Some of these are rather exotic and include a cat-cannon and a fish-shaped knife.Tribute noted on its official blog that this proper launch of Mercenary Kings will expand upon the Early Access build immeasurably with "hundred missions, new weapons, brand new areas and bosses."

PlayStation UK MD Fergal Gara tells MCV why the platform holder will never give up on its portable console, and where it goes next…
Many of the exciting games announced for Vita are indie projects. Do you think the console is lacking a big triple-A product this year?
Well, there are a lack of those titles announced. Is it a problem? It would be fair to pick up that there wasn’t a second Call of Duty made specifically for Vita. But what’s changed is that Call of Duty: Ghosts was available on Vita via Remote Play on PS4. And Vita is sort of evolving as a platform.
If you take it as a standalone product at the moment, the digital programme is proving to be a key strand of consumption for PS Vita. I think it’s interesting that the No.1 digital seller on Vita right now is PS Plus, so people are buying into Plus for the games that it gives them. I don’t think they’re buying it through Vita to play on PS4 – it’s technically possible but I don’t believe that that is the behaviour we are seeing.
Vita is proving to be a big niche device. Using the term ‘niche’ makes it sound tiny, but it’s not. The console is occupying an interesting space for interesting games built for more committed gamers. Yes the market place for it isn’t as big as it might have been had smartphones not arrived, but it is still a more thorough, more complete experience. And it is therefore appealing to people with a more eclectic taste in games. And many of these indie developers are proud to be on the platform. All of this is before we even talk about its role alongside PS4, which is clearly exciting and we seeing some good results from that.
The attach rate on Vita is quite high. Is this because of that niche or cult following that you have?
Correct, and that’s why we will continue to support it. The device is loved, it has a place. Sure it’s not enormous, but there are green shoots that show its position in the market will be at least as big with the advent of PS4.
"Vita is proving to be a big niche device. Using the

Vita appears to be aiming younger with some of its recent games. And Invizimals speaks to that audience. So why did you choose not to lower the price with your new slim model?
Well it frequently is lower. If you look at the price last year, you could find the device with the Mega Pack for around £139, which is highly competitive against any alternative. The £180 we announced for the new model is flat with where we are, but that price is rarely played. There has been lots of promotional activity and I expect to see more of that on-going.
Invizimals is your big kids project coming up. How are you planning to support it?
We are going medium with Invizimals. We are not going to launch it like The Last of Us, because it’s not. But are we going to give it a due level of support? Of course we are. It’s done pretty well across the continent in the lead up to Christmas. We decided that with everything else going on in the UK, it might be a better time to launch it this year in the UK. That way we can make sure we have all the pieces of the plan together, in terms of the trading cards and the TV shows in development and just having a better cohesive plan together for launch in the UK.

Time to chuck out the PlayStation 4 and drop the Xbox One like a titan –PlayStation Home is getting trophies! The PS3-only social app will soon be updated to support PlayStation's brand of achievements, PlayStation Europe Community Manager Chris Owen said on Twitter.
Trophies for the hamster-loving, secret identity-laden platform will arrive in the 1.86 update, set to launch worldwide on March 12. Details on the retroactive trophies will be revealed on launch day. Despite continued updates to Sony's social hub world in North America and Europe, Owen says there's no news of PlayStation Home moving to new platforms like PS4.
PlayStation Home is a free virtual 3D social gaming platform that first launched in 2008. It features mini-games, microtransactions and ad space. It's a little like the MMO Second Life, but with fewer flying phalluses.

Poland-based developer CD Projekt Red announced that the release of its multiplatform action-RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been delayed to next year as the studio focuses on testing and polish.
"We could have released the game towards the end of this year as we had initially planned," the team explains. "Yet we concluded that a few additional months will let us achieve the quality that will satisfy us, the quality gamers expect from us. Consequently, we have set the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for February 2015."

Deception has always appealed to a specific audience with a matching sense of humor. Deception IV: Blood Ties' pre-order bonuses handily encapsulate that spirit. They are a heady blend of the macabre, the sadistic, and the deeply goofy.
Players in Deception devote their time to laying out elaborate traps for would-be heroes trying to invade their castle. Think of its as an elaborate game of Mouse Trap, but replace the primary colored doodads with tools right out of a dungeon, in both medieval and dominatrix varieties. European fans that pick up Tecmo-Koei's sequel will have access to four unique traps.
The first comes from GAME, and it's a good old-fashioned guillotine. The second, from a variety of mom and pop game shops, is the "Golden Horse" pommel, which is sillier and pretty base. (As Tecmo says, it's intended to strike "right at your poor's rival's nether parts.") Then things start getting ultra weird with the PlayStation Store exclusive "Queen's Heel," an enormous stiletto that falls from the ceiling. Finally, Amazon shoppers get a UFO. Because of course the cherry on every psycho-sexual comedy sundae is a giant UFO that shoots wary knights into space.
Deception IV: Blood Ties, exclusive to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, is perhaps one of 2014's most unlikely games, coming nine years after the last entry, Trapt for PlayStation 2.

The latest update for Gran Turismo 6 gives players more to look at, as it adds multi-monitor support to the PS3 racing game. After updating the game, those with two or more connected screens simply need to hit the start button in the game, then select "options," then "display options" to enable the setting.
Update 1.05 for Gran Turismo 6 also adds the ability to search for cars using a number of parameters in the game's car dealerships. Racing gear has seen a price shift, as players can now acquire individually-colored items as opposed to full color sets. The update also adds other features, such as the ability to select karts in one-make races on weather-enabled tracks and select time trial, drift trial and free run options in the "event settings" screen.

Once slated to debut alongside the PlayStation 4 in November of last year, next-gen racer Driveclub has adopted a low profile, like a Lamborghini Aventador in the witness protection program. Sony and developer Evolution Studios pushed the game back in October, saying they needed more time and work to perfect a shared vision of shiny cars.
According to a new exchange between IGN and Scott Rohde, development head for Sony Worldwide Studios America, the detail-oriented racing game has shifted "back to the drawing board" in pursuit of quality. Driveclub isn't ready to be shipped without doing customers a "disservice," Rohde said. He did not confirm a new release date, in 2014 or otherwise.
Joystiq has spoken to Mr. Rohde about PlayStation no-shows before, butDriveclub has a more prolific studio – and only one slip – behind it. Of course, if we see its metallic body coming over the hill, with a giant half-bird half-cat behind the wheel, we'll experience the end of two mysteries at once. That hasn't happened since we recorded two episodes of Murder, She Wrote onto a single VHS.
