Guacamelee developer Drinkbox Studios today announced its next game, Severed, a fantasy role-playing game with touch-based combat controls. And while the company hasn't committed to platforms just yet, the PlayStation Vita seems a likely candidate, given the game's interface and the studio's experience.
Drinkbox was one of the earliest supporters of the Vita. The studio's Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!!! launched alongside the system in 2012, the first indie game on the handheld that wasn't published by Sony. They followed that up last year with the critically acclaimed Guacamelee on Vita, PS3, and (several months later) the PC. Speaking with GamesIndustry International earlier this month, Drinkbox's Chris McQuinn explained his affinity for Sony's portable platform.
"Honestly, Vita owners are the ****ing best," McQuinn said. "People rag on the Vita so much, and I think people who rag on the Vita don't understand, at least from a business perspective, the purchasing power of Vita owners. Vita owners are serious purchasers of games. It's an amazing system."
"People rag on the Vita so much, and I think people who rag on the Vita don't understand...the purchasing power of Vita owners."
That sentiment falls in line with Sony's own pitch to developers from last year. And Guacamelee gave McQuinn all the evidence of that he needed.
"The split in sales for Guacamelee between the Vita and the PS3 wasn't quite even, but it wasn't far off," McQuinn said. "I think that speaks to the strength of the Vita as a console to sell your game on because there are so many more PS3s than Vitas. For us, the sales on the Vita were really, really strong. It was a great SKU for us."
As for why the system is perceived as an unattractive platform, McQuinn suggested it was more an issue of hardware numbers than software sales.
"If people don't see the Vita doing the same number of sales as the 3DS, then it's automatically a failure," McQuinn said. "But I think what people fail to understand is the purchasers of Vitas are very, very engaged game consumers. For them, the attach rate with games is very high. There might not be a lot of Vitas out there, but the people who do own Vitas are very serious consumers; they buy a lot of games."
While the touch-based combat of Drinkbox's next title might lend itself well to tablets and smartphones, those platforms aren't a priority for the studio.
"For us, I think we're still going to be a bit hesitant about that market until we can see the market to be a bit safer with regards to you making a good game, putting it out, and people buying it," McQuinn said. "That's not necessarily true in that market. We've seen great games come out in that market that just don't get picked up, and that's scary. Whereas I feel if you put out a really good game on the Vita, people will buy it. So until we see that stabilize a bit, we'll probably be a bit hesitant."
The idea of selling games for $0.99 instead of $14.99 was another daunting aspect of dealing with the mobile market. Price deterioration and discoverability are two oft-lamented concerns with the almost non-existent barriers to entry in the mobile market, but while some indie developers see pushing the barriers down as an absolute good, McQuinn suggested they should probably only be lowered to a certain point.
"I think there being some barrier to entry is probably a good thing."
"I think there being some barrier to entry is probably a good thing," McQuinn said. "And I'm not saying a very high one, but something to at least ensure there's some quality to the game, with regards to it even working. I'm not saying you want to go as far as consoles still have it set up. Consoles are getting better, it's easier to put your game out on a console, but there's still a ton of work that's involved. I think there's a happy middle ground we could find."
McQuinn noted technical requirement checklists (TRCs) that ensure the product functions properly as one barrier probably worth retaining in some form.
"I think that's good for the customer, and when you have that, the customers will be more confident, so they'll be purchasing more."
Looking at the future of the indie scene, McQuinn was optimistic, saying there's plenty of room for small developers to steal a larger piece of the industry's pie. However, he predicted the big challenge for indies in the near future will be breaking out of the indie fanbase to get on the radar of the mainstream AAA gaming crowd.
"There's a huge number of those gamers who would like indie games but just aren't exposed to them," McQuinn said.
While growing the audience is a priority for the indie development scene, McQuinn has no similar interest in growing Drinkbox itself.
"It sounds kind of stupid, but I think it's really easy for our team to grow, but we don't want to do that," McQuinn said. "We don't want a big company. We just want a small team. We all know each other really well, and I think we're happy with the size we're at...We're at 14 now, which is monstrous for us. And I don't see us going any bigger. That's enough for us to always be working on two projects simultaneously, and I think we're pretty happy with that."

----------------------
This tool scans for the PKG, MP4 and P3T files copied to each game folder, its PS3_UPDATE folder, PKGDIR or PS3_CONTENT,
and store them under a PS3_EXTRA structure.
When a game is mounted with multiMAN, there will be 2 BD icons on the XMB:
one disc for the game itself and another with PKGs, MP4 and P3T.
It should make it easier to install the game patches, DLC, fixes, and related videos,
due they will be listed in a neat menu like the one used by "PStore news" (big squares of 486x405 pixels).
How to use:
-----------
1) First put the pkg's at the root of your game folder (eg: BLES00000).

------------------
It's a full FTP client that allows remote access to your PS3 files via a PC.
Other features include: rip files for games stored on PS3, file description, view cover image for selected folder, multiMAN remote commands, etc.
CreateHardLink 1.1.1
--------------------
Do you need a copy of your giant ISO, virtual HDD, movies or any other file in a another folder (e.g. for network share) and don't want to waste the extra hard disk space? This Win32 tool (inspired tool on multiMAN's mmOS shadow copy feature) lets you create a "hard link copy" of your files stored on NTFS drives without expend the extra HDD space.
IMPORTANT: A symbolic links to directories are "shortcuts" that behave like a path redirection. A "hard link copy" is the same original file just with another file name. Any modification made to one file will be reflected on all the other copies. Hard links don't work on multiple volumes or hard drives formatted in FAT32.
[+] Installation & Usage
Installation:
Run the CreateHardLink.exe as "administrator" at least once to register the "Paste Hard Link" option in Explorer context menu for files and folders.
If you run it holding Ctrl key, it will be registered as a Extended menu option (that only appears using Shift+Right click).
A .reg file is included to remove the option from Explorer. It's suggested to run it prior the registration as a context menu option.
Usage:
1. Select the items to be copied (e.g. ISO files, movies, folders, etc.) and press Ctrl+C to copy
2. browse to desired directory where we want the 'virtual copy'
3. right click on any file or folder and select 'Paste Hard Link' from context menu
4. Done.
Hard link for files only work in the same NTFS volume. Folder links works with different NTFS volumes. For different volumes 'Directory Junction' is suggested, instead of the default 'Symbolic Link'.
A 'Directory Junction' is created holding Shift or Ctrl key when we select 'Paste Hard Link' option.
With 'Directory Junction' or 'Symbolic Links' you can "copy" (it really redirects) an entire folder to another folder (e.g. you can redirect your games in JB format, music folders, movies, ISOs, etc. to the share folder for PS3 NET Server)
Indeed PS3 NET Server is the main reason why I made this tool... It could be done also with mklink command, but many users don't know about it or could find it cumbersome to do it through the command line.
PS3 Covers Uploader 1.01
------------------------
This is a specialized FTP client that auto-converts any image (PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TIF) to the proper cover size of 260x300 used by multiMAN,
and auto-upload it as JPG to the proper covers path.
Supports: drag & drop of multiple files, browse dialog, copy & paste image or URL from clipboard.
PSISO Tool GUI

It's a GUI for CaptainCPS-X tool. The tool patches PS3 ISOs that not were created with genPS3ISO or multiMAN.
Bruteforce EBOOT 1.3.1
----------------------
This tool is more an EXPERIMENT than a real key finder... a 128bit key is expected to take milleniums to bruteforce it,
but if you are extremely LUCKY you could find a rifkey using this method. Anyway, I'm sharing this because a friend asked me to make it to have some fun.
The tool generates random or sequential values and uses MAGIC333X's bruteforce tool to test thousands or millions of rifkeys per second.
New in this release:
- Added option to open the EBOOT by drag & drop of the file
Bruteforce Edat 1.2.1
---------------------
It's a dev klicensee bruteforcer that can be used to find the klicensee used on edat files.

- BruteForce_List_Edat_Klicensees -> Added listing of the RAP in HEX format (if the rap file exists in the RAPS folder) (thank to ZOMBIEKILLAH for the idea)
Special thanks to Catalinnc for his awesome contribution discovering the dev klicensees!
PS3 HDD GUI 1.3
---------------
It's a GUI for the PS3 HDD reader tool created by 3141card.
The tool is a simple on-the-fly decrypter and ufs2 reader that allows to browse the content of your gameos (dev_hdd0)
and copy files and folders to PC.
PS3 HDD will only read (Nothing is written to the PS3 HDD, so it should be very safe). PS3 HDD for Slim and FAT models are now supported.
New in 1.3: updated to support ps3 hdd reader 1.0.
PS3 Ftp Data Sync 1.2.1
-----------------------
It's a backup utility that copies the selected folders on the PS3 to a local folder on the PC.
Only the new and modified files on the PS3 are downloaded to the PC. The new files found on the PC are copied to the PS3.
Set the local folder to a DropDrox's folder and you have a cloud backup solution of your PS3 data
New in version 1.2: Added 4 sync modes for the selected folders:
PS3 -> PC -> PS3 (default): Transfer the new files and updated files from PS3 to PC. The additional files found on the PC are transfer back to the PS3.
PC -> PS3 -> PC: Transfer the new files and updated files from PC to PS3. The additional files found on the PS3 are transfer to the PC.
PS3 -> PC: Transfer only the new files and updated files from PS3 to PC.
PC -> PS3: Transfer only the new files and updated files from PC to PS3.
PS3 ConsoleID 1.0.4
-------------------
This tool displays the PSID and the ConsoleID from a bkpps3.bin or from a LV1 or LV2 dump created using multiMAN's mmOS or Rebug's Toolbox.
How to use:
Make a dump of your bkpps3.bin, LV1 or LV2 and drap & drop the dump file on the tool's window.
It will show the PSID, idps, Target ID and PS3 model found in the bkpps3.bin, LV1 or LV2.
You can drag & drop a dump of your NOR flash too.
PSP2PS3 2.1.2 "mod"
-------------------
Based on the awesome scripts created by szczuru, and the tools created by Pink1, arnold (swapperneger), zecoxao, tpu, doobz, among others devs.
This "mod" tries to streamline the process of conversion of PKG/ISO/CSO/PBP to PSP package for PS3.
Latest version has improved compatibility thanks to a new process for resigning EBOOT suggested by Celebratesparta and the addition of PSP Remasters, thanks to doobz.
Report your compatibility results here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...xekVXWGc#gid=0
Changes in v2.1.2 "mod by aldostools"

PS3 Edat Tool GUI 1.0
---------------------
It's a revamped and easy to use GUI for the command line EdatTool recently released.
Now you can resign your Edats in an easy way.
Note: Some edats require a Dev Klic that can be obtained using Bruteforce Edat.
Bruteforce Edat 1.0.4
---------------------
It's a dev klicensee bruteforcer that can be used to find the klicensee used on edat files.
It uses BuC's dev klicensee validator to test the potential keys.

Go to "Options" set the output mode to Package File, set a default path and enable Shell Integration.
Changes in 2.0:
- New tab for creation of PS2 packages with custom icons and background.
(drag & drop or open any image and the program will create the images in the proper size)
Tip: Put custom images (ICON0, PIC0, PIC1, SND, etc.) in the folder PS2Covers for auto selection by title id during the PKG creation.
Changes in 1.7:
- Solves some issues with the file associations.
- Verifies if the file system accepts the file size (>4GB) and if there is enough free space.

rpcs3 Git (2014/04/13) is compiled. rpcs3 is an open source PlayStation 3 (PS3) emulator for the Microsoft Windows. Current versions can run only small homebrew for PS3. Developers are planning to make it to emulate PS3 on its speed in the near future.
rpcs3 purpose:
- Make PS3 developers easily test their apps and homebrews on PC without crashing their PS3 or moving their apps from PC to PS3.
- Just playing PS3 games on your PC and have fun! ( In the future )
rpcs3 Git Changelog:
* Merge pull request #184 from daniel-dressler/master
Add Linux build instructions for Debian & Ubuntu
* Fix run instruction hitting CWD bug
PCS3 assumes current working directory is bin folder.
So running it like ./bin/pcs3 stops it from finding
dev_hdd0 and related.
* Add Linux build instructions for Debian & Ubuntu
* Merge pull request #183 from Bigpet/cmakefix
quote guard CMake variables
* quote guard CMake variables

PS2ESDL v0.824 is released. PS2ESD is Playstation 2 External Storage Device games Loader (PS2ESDL). It allows the user to load games from a USB device.
PS2ESDL v0.824 Changelog:
1.The screen will now be automatically re-centered when the 480P mode is used. (Fixed)
2.Fixed many logic errors that could impede stability.
3.PS2LOGO can now be (optionally) launched. This will only work if the game's logo section (first 16 sectors) is decrypted. Currently not doable with any versions of PS2DCDMP.
4.Fixed graphics mode switching. No more garbled graphics.
5.Corrected the RGBA values used with loaded PNG images. The reason why I could never get the alpha values right was because of a bug in the PNG loading function in gsToolkit. It didn't invert the alpha values.
6.Due to the above, the alpha test (Which was really too aggressive) is no longer needed and was removed.
7.Replaced my old quicksort algorithm with a call to the C qsort() function.
8.Fixed one bug related to calling AllocSysMemory() and FreeSysMemory() without suspending interrupts in cdvdman.c (According to my understanding of the Sony technical documentation, AllocSysMemory() and FreeSysMemory() are critical sections and need to be run with interrupts disabled).
9.PS2LOGO can now be (optionally) launched, so that the player's play history will get updated and hence the "towers" on the Sony Playstation 2 screen will grow and multiply as they should.
10.The redundant SourceDevice field in the configuration structure has been shifted into the SkinDisplayData structure.
11.Fixed many, many bugs related to calling AllocSysMemory() and FreeSysMemory() without suspending interrupts (According to my understanding of the Sony technical documentation, AllocSysMemory() and FreeSysMemory() are critical sections and need to be run with interrupts disabled).
12.CRITICAL: Fixed support for disks of sector sizes >2048 bytes. The call to AllocSysMemory() in sectorIO.c was faulty as the first and second parameters were swapped around.
13.Changed the EE core again with a new design that is more compatible. Old plugins are now unsupported.
14.This new EE core uses a customized UDNL module that shuts off all DMA channels before the final phase of the IOP reset, to avoid memory corruption by interfaces like USB.
15.Removed the Sony debugging modules from the banned modules list as DECI2.IRX doesn't exist as a standalone IRX and I don't know what SNMON.IRX is.
16.Changed where the temporary buffer for disks with sectors larger than 2048 bytes is created, for better performance.

PCSX2 Git (2014/04/13) is compiled. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.
PCSX2 Git Changelog:
* debian: make create tarball script compatible with git
* license: again not yet perfect but much better
Remove old tsvn of zzogl
Add various header
add "is in public domain" for license in public domain so Debian's script catch it
* gsdx: add bsd3 clause on gsdx xbyak files
* win build fix: set utf8-bom
* license: add missing header
Still miss lots of copyright header but we are better
* gsdx-gles: nvidia driver quick trial (only GLES3.0)
* Fix to create a 3.0 GLES context
* set a default precision to fix most of shader compilation issue
* Crash later because of GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT
=> need to test opensource driver
* cmake: drop sparsehash_new module
It was a workaround for a buggy version of the lib.

The PlayStation Move has been called a lot of bad names. It's the PlayStation peripheral that's least used by game devs, least purchased by console owners, and least spoken of by Sony itself. Some of that sentiment's been turning lately, ever since Sony showed off Project Morpheus a few weeks ago and demonstrated what an impact something like Move has on virtual reality immersion (the controller works for both PS3 and PS4). And the guy who heads up PlayStation's worldwide game studios, Shuhei " Shu" Yoshida, says Move is responsible for far more than it's given credit.
"This project was one of the very first hardware projects formed with three groups: the software engineering team at SCEA, the hardware engineers at SCEI in Japan, and the Worldwide Studios team making games using the motion controller," Yoshida told attendees of a presentation tonight at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. He and PlayStation 4 lead architect Mark Cerny explained that this trifecta was the first in a string of major collaborations: PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and now Project Morpheus.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn enters its Early Access phase ahead of its full launch on Monday, and that means existing PS3 players can transfer their Eorzean adventures to PS4 as of today. Before you head off to hop across the generations, a reminder: It's a one-way trip. Once it's done, it's done, finito, end of. Your PS3 game is no more, it has ceased to be.
To summarize, once you've switched to the PS4 game, Square Enix says there's no playing again on PS3 with your existing copy, so be sure it's what you want to do. If you'd prefer to play on both systems, you can purchase a PS4 version separately.
As for the how, the PlayStation Blog has a step-by-step guide to take you from PS3 to PS4. Once you're there, you'll be able to explore among PS3 and PC players, and you can use your characters across all platforms that you've activated with your account.

Voice-controlled gaming isn't quite as easy to pull off on the PlayStation 4 as it is on the Xbox One (that Kinect comes in handy), but Iridium Studios is out to prove that it's no big challenge. The developer has revealed that it's bringing its crowdfunded squad strategy title, There Came an Echo, to Sony's console. As on the PC and Xbox, you can order your team around using little more than your voice. While the gamepad is very much usable, it's not completely essential to finishing your mission.

"We don't have limitless resources. We wanted to bring the game to as many people as possible and right now that was the 360 and PS3." That's what 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil's lead producer Mat Prior had to say about the title not launching on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Which is to say, EA's leaning on console-adoption numbers as the primary reason for the lack of a proper game on Microsoft's and Sony's newest consoles. Instead, EA Sports plans to bring some "engaging" World Cup-themed content to FIFA 14's Ultimate Team mode, in the hopes that'll be enough to satisfy disappointed Xbox One and PS4 owners.

Call of Duty: Ghosts' Devastation DLC pack will hit PC, PS3, and PS4 on May 8.
Devastation introduces four small to medium sized multiplayer maps: Ruins, Behemoth, Collision, and Unearthed, the last of which is a reimagined version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Dome. Devastation released for Xbox 360 and Xbox One players on April 3.
The pack also includes a new Extinction level called Mayday and anappearance from movie monster Predator.
Season Pass owners get immediate access to the Ripper, a new hybrid weapon that can be switched between a submachine gun and an assault rifle on the fly.
Official map descriptions- Ruins is located on a Mexican peninsula and set amidst the remnants of a mountaintop Mayan temple, with multiple levels providing verticality for longer-range weapons, and underground pathways perfect for close-quarters encounters. Savvy players that find and complete the unique Field Order will be able to trigger the map's volcano to erupt, and enjoy watching enemy players attempt to take cover as fiery debris fall from the sky.
- Collision is a mangle of debris scattered atop a container ship pinned underneath a crippled bridge in New York. This small map is ideal for run-and-gun tactics. Players that dominate Collision and complete the map's specific Field Order will be able take control of a heavily armed aircraft and rain down destruction from above.
- Behemoth takes the battle aboard a massive excavation platform in South America. Long sight lines open this map up to longer-range weapons, while the compact interiors of the control rooms are ideal for SMG's and Shotguns. Completing Behemoth's Field Order will allow players to control an attack helicopter armed with a deadly, armor-piercing Rail Gun as it circles the excavator searching for enemy combatants.
- Unearthed drops players into a reimagined version of Dome, the fan-favorite multiplayer map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With a new look and all-new secrets, Unearthed is a compact map for all player types, who must navigate an alien artifact dig site in order to unlock the map's Field Order and unleash the power of the Cryptids, as well as locate the map's secret alien weapon.

Hardware will come bundled with Borderlands 2, 8GB memory card for $200
After debuting in Japan in October and launching in the UK earlier this year, the redesigned PlayStation Vita will finally arrive in North America on May 6, Sony announced today. The $200 bundle will come packaged with a code to download Borderlands 2 and an 8GB memory card.
The new hardware is slimmer and lighter than the original Vita handheld, but not without some trade-offs. The biggest alteration has been to the system's screen, with the original Vita's OLED display swapped out for a new LCD screen. However, the new screen has also allowed Sony to increase the handheld's battery life.
Early adopters of the redesign will also be getting their hands on Borderlands 2 before existing Vita owners have a chance to play the game. The shooter port won't be making its stand-alone debut at retailers or on the digital PlayStation Store until May 13.

PlayStation 4-exclusive action game fastest-selling entry in series history
Infamous: Second Son has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, Sony announced today. That number includes retail copies sold through to consumers, as well as digital sales through the PlayStation Network.
Sucker Punch's open-world action game launched worldwide on March 21 and reached the million mark within nine days, making it the fastest-selling entry in series history. Previously, the series saw two main installments on the PlayStation 3, a downloadable stand-alone expansion, and a collection package including all three previously released titles.
As a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Second Son appears to be enjoying a healthy attach rate to the console's installed base. Last month, Sony said it had sold more than 6 million PS4 systems worldwide.
