Two Android devices to rival iPad this autumn; both feature PlayStation Suite
Sony has revealed its first two tablet devices which will launch this autumn.
The pair – codenamed the S1 and S2 – will run Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, which is powering an increasing number of tablets this year.
The S1 will have a 9.4-inch touchscreen, while the S2 will have two 5.5-inch displays that fold up, in a similar way to the Nintendo's DS. Both will feature the PlayStation Suite digital game download service.

According to PSX-Scene former moderator, "chesh," the now six-day-long PlayStation Network outage is the result of a particularly exploitative custom firmware (CFW) modification for PS3. In a post on Reddit, chesh claims that a CFW known as "Codename: Rebug" had given its users the ability to log into PSN as if they were doing so from a developer console (or "debug unit").
As a result, chesh contends, this same exploit allowed its users to add funds from "dummy" credit card accounts into their PSN wallets, ostensibly giving them the ability to "unlock" (read: steal) certain PlayStation Store content. Joystiq's research into the purported exploit has turned up multiple tutorials detailing the process, which appears alarmingly easy to execute on consoles running the Rebug CFW.
The hack does not allow its users to access the credit card or other personal information of PSN users, chesh adds. Nevertheless, as we reported earlier today, Sony is working to rule out information theft as part of its investigation during the maintenance outage in which the company is also implementing new security measures.
Sony has not yet responded to our request for comment on this story.

Developer Sucker Punch has extended inFamous 2's UGC beta test following the widely-publicisedPlayStation Network outage.
A post on the game's Twitter feed read, "We've decided to extend the beta. Once PSN is back up we'll determine by how long, but rest assured: your outcry has been heard."
You can currently still play the beta but you can't upload or download any user-created stages, or access the private beta forums.
Sucker Punch has also stopped handing out any new access codes until PSN is back online.
"Handing out beta codes that you can't redeem is decidedly cruel and unusual - that said, during this time of maintenance, we will suspend all code giveaways and contests," read a post on its official site.
"As soon as PSN is back up and running, though, you can expect to see our contests and giveaways populating our usual outlets. As usual, stay tuned to our Twitter feed, and we'll let you know as soon as the servers come back online."
The sequel to its solid 2009 superhero adventure is due out on PlayStation 3 on 10th June.

Sony is yet to determine if the personal information of PlayStation Network users has been compromised by the attack that has left PSN out of action for five days.
According to SCE Japan spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka, that includes the security of user credit card details - although the firm has reassured PSN account holders that it will "promptly inform" them at the first sign of any foul play with their payment details. SCE is conducting a "thorough investigation" into the outage, he added.
Meanwhile, SCEA communications chief Patrick Seybold has released a company update on the continuing PSN downtime. He said earlier today:
"I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don't have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.
"As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we're working to get them back online quickly. We'll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience."
The PSN outage began in the early hours of Thursday in the UK - as Valve's Portal 2 arrived in stores. Sony has since clarified that an "external intrusion", or hack, is to blame for the downtime.
Anti-Sony hacking group Anonymous has denied responsibility for the attack.

Square's beloved SNES RPG classic Chrono Trigger is on its way to PlayStation Network as a PSone Classic, according to an ESRB listing.
The US ratings board post, as spotted by IGN, offers no indication as to when the game will be available for download or how much it will cost.
First released on the SNES to huge acclaim back in 1995, it was ported to the PSone in 1999 and it's this version that you will presumably be playing.
Already confirmed for an impending Virtual Console release on Wii, it was also blessed with a finely-tuned DS port back in 2009, which is trailered below.
"It represents the work of a company at the very top of its field," wrote Eurogamer's Simon Parkin in his 10/10 review, "a team of designers so confident with the rules that they helped establish that they felt free to subvert and invert them to glorious effect."

Sony is rebuilding PlayStation Network following a security breach that has kept the system offline for nearly five days now.
A new update on the PlayStation Blog from corporate communications chief Patrick Seybold gives no precise indication as to when the service will be back but insisted that starting again from scratch was vital to prevent future attacks.
"We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online," he wrote.
"Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
"We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available."
Meanwhile, Microsoft has chipped in, insisting it is taking no pleasure from its rival's troubles.
"Of course it's regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favourite games online," a spokesperson toldElectronic Theatre, before noting how the PSN outage serendipitously coincided with a free Xbox Live Gold weekend.
"That being said, we are expecting Microsoft's robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems.
"Being able to play their games via the Xbox Live network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that – whether they have a Gold subscription or not."

Mathieulh probably just let the cat out of the bag with his obvious hint to the much talked bug that practically owned future PS3 firmware updates and also the mass growth of warez leechers with the help of 3.60 app keys. Yes, we’re talking about the unstoppable 3.60+ CFWs, you bitch. Provided that Sony won’t release unhackable PS3 consoles in the near future, of course.

PSN Qriocity systems and Sony have been suspended according to a message posted on his official blog. After five days of fighting, the firm still has no date of release to service.
On 20 April, a hacker attack, according to Sony, put the servers in the Playstation Network to knee. The day after the attack, Sony released a message explaining that he was working to resolve the problem would require a day or two. On 23 April, the company explained that it had disconnected NHP Qriocity to investigate the intrusion responsible for this incident. Yesterday she was still split by a message explaining that it is strengthening its infrastructure, but it still has no launch date. According to rumors, it would be an attack type LOIC (Denial of Service - DDoS, designed to make available a network by overloading it).
Sony let indirectly suggest that members of the group Anonymous were responsible. The group has denied these accusations and if they do not exclude that some of its members are acting independently, the operation organized by the community does more official Sony servers. Anonymous denounces against the incompetence of the Japanese, who needed a scapegoat.
This condition is extremely rare and even Microsoft took the opportunity to explain the voice of a charge that it supports Sony in this difficult time but also praises the merits of his platform of online games has not been Such difficulties. He hopes to attract players disappointed by the Japanese delivery.
Meanwhile servers could be accessible again tomorrow and Thursday for Japan to the United States and Europe (or tomorrow according to other sources).

News via http://mobiles.gx-mod.com/modules/ne...p?storyid=9583
The Japanese developer neur0ner now known to all, is back with a new revision of its Standing 6.38 CFW for PSP 1000 and 2000 (No. 8C). The M33 driver and a new driver named EO were added in this release to further improve the compatibility of the firmware.
News / Corrections:
- Added iso M33 driver.
- Adding a new driver ISO OE.
- Fix for launching the update from CFW PRO-B4 (already corrected in the old version).
Installation:
1) For those who are already in ME CFW 6.38, you just copy the UPDATE folder in the downloaded folder PSP / GAME / and run it from the games menu, press X to install and restart.
2) Those who are on another CFW or HEN, follow this method to install the 6.38 revision 2 ME:
1 - Download the 6.38 OFW and CFW6.38 ME 2
2 - Rename the EBOOT of the OFW 6.38 into 638.pbp.
3 - Put the renamed file in the folder 638.pbp UPDATE ME CFW 6.38 Revision 2.
4 - Copy the UPDATE folder (which contains the EBOOT of the OFW and 6.38 ME 6.38 renamed) on your memory card to: ms0: / PSP / GAME /
5 - If you are not standing CFW (GEN or M33), start your HEN 6.20/6.35.
6 - Now run the UPDATE CFW 6.38 ME and follow the instructions exactly.
7 - At the end, once the 6.38 Update is complete, restart the PSP twice to see the CFW enabled (just the first time).
NB:
- Some permanent CFW, you may be faced with the refusal of the PSP Update (Error: PSP firmware 9.99 is already no longer need a SHIFT .... etc.). To solve this problem, we can use the update CFW GEN D3 but to go to the OFW 5.50, you go beyond the official firmware 6.20, it installs NT 6.20 HEN then you can follow the second-mentioned installation procedure above.
- There is another solution to this problem is to use a version.txt a version lower than 6.38 to distort history information of the PSP, which lets the SHIFT.

Sometimes one has no choice but to do mathematics to survive the modern jungle. If you miss your old TI89 (do these things still exist?) , 10$man has the solution for you with his entry for the PSP Genesis competition: Autographer.
What is it?
I’ll quote the author here:
- -Factor a list of Polynomials and solve them for 0 (10 polynomials at a time to be exact) BUT you must input them from a computer and it is very inconvenient, can not factor with X multiplied (eg. 2X^2 + 5X + 7) Can doeg. X^2 + 5X + 7
- -Factor a single polynomial that you input ON your psp
- -FOIL (or Distribute) it is like un-factoring.
- -Find the Volume and SurfaceArea of:
Cube
Rectangular Prisms
Cylinders
(More are going to be implemented!) - -Graph (EXTREMELY in progress)
Must input equation for line from computer.
cannot do circles - -Beneksturun Theorom
This is something i made with friends a while back
it is pointless as it states.
all it does is list every number that can be cubed and have a whole number square Download Here

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/04/24/6...sony-products/
A few months ago, Sony sued a security researcher, George Hotz, for jailbreaking the PS3.
At some point, the group Anonymous even started protesting against Sony, both in the digital world and in real life.
We all have our opinion on this story, but it seems this lawsuit didn’t help Sony’s image. A while ago, I asked you if you were going to boycott Sony’s products, and the results are in. As I type this, 36% of the voters said they won’t boycott Sony, 35% said they will boycott Sony, and 30% said they would buy “less” Sony products [than they would have if this lawsuit hadn't happened]. Overall, this means that Sony now has a bad image as a company for 64% of the voters. Way to go, Sony, I’m sure your marketing department has a few words to say to your legal department
Now, /Talk is just a small forum, and our members probably don’t represent the average customer’s opinion… or do they? This blog is of course biased, and the majority of my readers probably don’t represent the average Sony customer population. But the same way movie downloaders are also the ones that buy the most Blu-rays, I believe that people who hang out on a technical forum such as /talk are probably the people who will shape the future of device purchases…

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/04/24/t...ploit-on-6-38/
As you probably know, firmwares 6.37 and 6.38 allow you to play “regular” homebrews through HBL, as well as “signed” homebrews, including some backups with the fake_np tool. But these two firmwares cannot run Custom Firmwares or HENs, which offer a much more “integrated” experience, as well as the support for custom themes and plugins. In order to run a CFW, a Kernel exploit is required, and the Kernel exploit that is used on firmwares 6.20 and 6.35 has been patched by Sony in firmware 6.37.
However, Developer Total_Noob announced via a video on his youtube Channel that he found a new Kernel exploit on firmware 6.38.

We admit -- we might have gotten our dander up a little too quickly following Final Fantasy 6's release in Japan on PSN. We've just been hurt so many times before by Square Enix's Japanese PSOne Classics re-releases, which tend to take a while to come stateside, provided they ever come at all. However, we've got hope for the series sixth, Esper-filled installment: The ESRB recently rated Final Fantasy 6 for U.S. release on PSP and PS3.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean the game's going to come out next week, but it practically ensures that we'll be able to grab it from the PlayStation Store at some point in the future. While we wait for an official release date, why not join us in trying to remember exactly what kind of "Partial Nudity" is featured in Final Fantasy 6? Maybe that's a reference to Ultros? We guess he's totally naked throughout the entire game, but at the same time, he's an octopus. That kind of behavior is to be expected.

It started on a quiet Wednesday night, with PlayStation gamers finding their Network unresponsive to their login attempts, and now continues well into its third day. Sony has now finally shed some light on the problems it's been having with PSN and, to nobody's surprise, the culprit for its troubles has been identified as "an external intrusion." The current downtime for PSN is the second of its kind this month, with the Anonymous group of online crusaders claiming responsibility for the first. Sony now intends to keep both PSN and its Qriocity music streaming service offline until it can pinpoint the vulnerability that has been exploited and put a stop to it. Skip past the break for the company's full statement.

The entertainment and electronics industries keep trying to push 3D on consumers, even though a lot of smart people have caught on to the fact that it is a scam and not innovation as the industry would like you to believe. From the article: 'This is a bad experiment that the industry is forcing consumers to subsidize. And since they can’t create a better product, they’ve simply latched on to 3D as a marketing ploy that the entertainment and electronics industries can use to trick people into thinking that they are getting a superior experience. It’s only working because just enough people are falling for the scam to keep it alive.'"http://entertainment.slashdot.org/st...By-the-3D-Scam

April 24th, 2011, 00:12 Posted By: wraggster
In last week's mailbox Ben Norris asked if games these days are too explicit and lamented the level of blood and gore in the upcoming Mortal Kombat title.
This week Joe Wyatt e-mailed PSM3 to vent his frustrations with hackers in Modern Warfare 2.
To have your letter featured on CVG's Mailbox, drop us a line.
Enough is enough. I'm sick of these cheating douchebags ruining Modern Warfare 2. I'm talking about the smug losers who've got hacked cheat menus allowing them to become invincible, shoot people (me!) from anywhere on the map and now even wipe my freakin' attachments and perks!
I'd previously only seen it a couple of times since the game came out but this past couple of weeks I'm struggling to find a game without one. I thought I hated nuke boosters, but at least you could stick a semtex to their heads and make yourself feel better - these chumps are something else.
So I've been brainstorming for solutions to this syphilitic plague. Obviously my first thought was to have them burned but for all Sony's future-proofing of their console I doubt they included a PSN-triggered incendiary device. Seems a shame.
Plan B: take away the benefit - lock their profiles so they can't rank up and they can't unlock anything. Also anyone tagged as a cheater should be exclusively put in games together so they can play round after futile round where none of them can die, no matter how many unlimited air drops they can call in.
No doubt there'll be a technical barrier of the network spotting who these people are compared to normal human beings but that's not my business - I'm not the 'how guy'... All I can say is that I hate them. They've ruined my favourite game of all time.
Call me old fashioned but I cant help feeling that these people are a true waste of oxygen.
PSM3 says:: While we agree with your sentiments, Joe, your methods might be a bit extreme. Sony has issued a statement saying: "By identifying PlayStation 3 systems that breach our guidelines and terminating their ability to connect to PlayStation Network, we are protecting our business and preserving the honest gameplay experiences that you expect and deserve," via the PlayStation Blog.
Clearly PSN bans are the best short-term solution. Looking further ahead, rumours suggest Sony is working on a new version of PS3 that can't be hacked using current methods. Games devs too, are looking to tighten security. Hackers can ruin a game via multi-player exploits and that may mean less people buy it.
CVG says: If only to play a devil's advocate we're going to agree with you Joe, we'd like to see Infinity Ward use some creative ways to punish cheaters; take away their ability to kill, replace their guns with vegetables, randomly turn them into ghosts - whatever.
It's a shame that Modern Warfare 2 has turned into this wild west filled with hackers, especially since there's still a fair few people who prefer it to Black Ops. Hopefully something will be done to clean it up soon, something like turning them all into ducks.

News via http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applic...n-for-63x.html
Homebrew coder neur0n has released a pair of new plugins for custom firmware-powered PlayStation Portables.
The first of these is Gameboot Skip which, as the name suggests, lets PSP owners skip gameboot screens. This plugin is especially useful to those who are running CFW 6.38 ME since that particular CFW doesn't have a gameboot skip option built into it. This plugin is for 6.3X PSPs.
The other plugin from neur0n is SimplySaver. This plugin lets you modify the PSP's web browser so that you can save any downloaded files to a location of your own choosing. This release works for 6.2X and 6.3X PSPs. The developer notes that the first version of the plugin was originally made by Zer01ne.

Looking for new tool to add in your homebrew archieve? Well, here's one courtesy of homebrew coder knopper. Check out the initial release of his app, "Lock The Folder," a handy homebrewing tool that allows you to, well as the name implies, locked not just your PSP folders, but also individual files and subdirectories.
Developer's note:
Hi, this is my homebrew "Lock The Folder". It bolts not only the PSP-folder (MUSIC, VIDEO, PICTURE, ISO, GAME150, PHOTO) but also individual files and subdirectories. If you want, you can use a password. Windows has no access to the content of the locked folders.
The dev adds that this app has been properly tested to work on PSP 1000, PSP 2000, PSP 3004 and PSP GO with 6.20 TN-D.
