Macross Ace Frontier was a PSP hit last year. Naturally, that means a sequel. Introducing Macross Ultimate Frontier!
Namco Bandai is targeting a fall release for Macross Ultimate Frontier, which is roughly one year after Macross Ace Frontier. Like the previous game, Ultimate Frontier has a four player ad-hoc mode and little hope for an international release.

Looks like Wild Arms 2 is following in the footsteps of Metal Gear Solid. The PsOne game was re-rated by the ESRB as a PlayStation 3 and PSP game, a good sign it’s going to pop up as a downloadable PlayStation Archives title (thanks for the tip Joel!!).
Additional PlayStation Classics are always welcome, but there are so many other awesome PsOne and PSP RPGs I doubt I’ll play Wild Arms 2 again. Will you give Wild Arms 2 a second shot?

Similarly to the European PSN Store update, this week's content is a little lean.
But what's this? Solid Snake infiltrates the store in his original PS1 adventure, Metal Gear Solid. Yours for the premium PS1 price of $9.99. Sure you can probably find a cheaper copy in a bargain bin somewhere, but really you're paying for the ability to play this classic on your PSP. Anywhere. Other than that, there's a new episode of Qore and an NCAA Football 10 demo. PSP owners can grab GRAW 2 and some themes, too.

Activision head honcho Bobby Kotick has been doing some saber rattling over at the giant publisher, saying that they may need to "stop supporting Sony" come 2010 or 2011. The folks at Playstation, though, don't seem fazed.
"PlayStation has tremendous momentum coming out of E3, and we are seeing positive growth with more than 350 titles slated to hit across all our platforms, including many anticipated games from our publishing partners," said Playstation spokesman Patrick Seybold. "We enjoy healthy business relationships with and greatly value our publishing partners and are working closely with them to deliver the best entertainment experience."
Indeed Sony announced an impressive line-up of first and third-party PS3 and PSP titles at their annual retailer meet-up Destination Playstation and then spent a bulk of their E3 press conference whipping through triple-A title after triple-A title.
As interesting as it is to read about some publishing exec making vague threats, I'd be much more interested to learn what really prompted this. Perhaps we should be reading more into Kotick's comments in the same article about the royalties that Activision is having to pay out to Sony.

You see this guy up here? His name is Kratos, and when you click past the break, you're going to see him kill lots of things ... for thirteen minutes. G4 has managed to get a direct-feed capture of the entire God of War III demo from E3. Perhaps now you'll see why we called the game "God of War, in HD." (And no, that's not considered a bad thing.)
Pay attention to some of our favorite new moves: the ability to grab an enemy and use him as a battering ram, and the ability to burst through crowds of enemies. Being able to take control of a golem is pretty cool as well. Those of you that watch the video in HD will be able to truly appreciate the gruesome finishing moves the sick, disturbed people at Santa Monica Studios have added to this game. Due to the gore, AOL Legal requires us to remind you this footage is for our audience ages 17 and up. So set your birthday to January 1st, 1901 and enjoy the footage after the break.

Meaningful -- as in it'll mean Sony would finally bow to ubiquitous suggestions, predictions and occasional threats that see the PlayStation 3 being lowered in price please please oh please. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia is the latest to join the frugal chorus, telling Industry Gamers, "We continue to believe a $100 price cut on PS3 will occur around the launch of EA's Madden NFL 2010, which is scheduled for release on 8/18."
Agee claims to have encountered similar sentiment at a recent GameStop executive meeting, overhearing talk of a "highly likely" and "meaningful" near-term price drop even over the clinking of diamond-encrusted chalices and relentless pre-order thrusting.
It's Sony's decision, ultimately, but if it's alright with you, we'd rather just get this price drop over with. A lower price means more people get in on the fun ... especially when they also get to stop reading these things.

EA DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke has said a trial version of Battlefield 1943 will be offered to compensate for the lack of a public beta - an inevitability on Xbox Live Arcade, but not always so on PlayStation Network. So that's good news.
"No beta, but we have a trial version that lets you confirm what you already thought - that this game is the best USD 15 I will ever spend!" Van Dyke told Eurogamer readers during a Live Text Q&A.
He wouldn't budge on the "summer" date for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions of Battlefield 1943, but the overseeing PR announced that the PC version will arrive later, in September.
Battlefield 1943 re-imagines Battlefield 1942, and trims the classes and maps down to three to promote accessibility. A fourth map, Coral Sea, will be unlocked after a combined 43 million kills by XBLA players for that version and PSN players for that. Van Dyke reckons this will take about two weeks. The PR, however, reminded us that this is in your hands.
There are no "concrete plans" for future content, producer Patrick Liu added, and the unlockable nature of Coral Sea was a "spontaneous" idea.
Battlefield 1943, unlike the expansive key instalments in the series, will tend towards arcade and cartoon-style action over realism. Suicide jeeps laden with explosives can be jimmied into choke points, for example, and pilots can drop bombs on other planes. Snipers can even pick off targets while parachuting, before plunging a knife into someone upon landing.
Squads can be created both before a game and during, and simple attack/defend orders given. Voice chat between squads is supported but, in Battlefield 1943, clans are not.
EA DICE is also working on Battlefield 3, but wouldn't offer any further details.
Battlefield 1943 costs 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40) from Xbox Live Arcade, and USD 15 (GBP 9) from the PlayStation Store - although the actual pound-price is likely to be higher.

Capcom has announced that it plans to update the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade versions of Bionic Commando Rearmed in response to feedback.
Judging by the change-list, said feedback mostly consisted of "where are the sodding Trophies" and "this is too hard you unimaginable bastards".
According to the Capcom Unity blog, Trophies will be added on PSN, and Easy and Normal difficulty levels have been rejigged quite a bit.
Now when you die, for example, you respawn at the last solid ground you stood on, or at the last checkpoint. "Say it with me now.... 'Unlimited Lives'," says the blog.
You'll also be able to reel out your grapple arm line if you latch onto something and realise the line is too short, and if you swing into a wall you no longer bounce off it and fall to your death - you just bounce and then reel in.
There are also a couple of bug-fixes, and Capcom's quick to note that the Hard and Super Hard difficulty levels remain untouched.
There's no word on an update for the PC version, or indeed when the above patch will be released, but the Capcom Unity wording suggests a free "title update" rather than a premium downloadable content pack.

Capcom has announced that Monumental Games' new MotoGP title is called MotoGP 09/10. Bit presumptuous.
It's due out next March on PS3 and Xbox 360 and features all the bikes, riders and tracks from the 2009 championship, with the promise of free data updates as the 2010 championship unfolds.
The Career mode is going to have races, obviously, but also management elements, so you can hire and fire engineers, team managers and press officers.
Beyond that Capcom is promising three other gameplay modes, one of which, Arcade, sets challenges along the way that encourage players to earn and steal points from one another. Capcom's press release also mentions "rewards" for riding style as well as race wins.
"Historically MotoGP videogames have been released toward the end of the GP season, but with this latest addition to the series we wanted MotoGP and racing fans to have the most up to date content as soon as possible," said Capcom's Michael Pattison.
Screenshots and videos were not immediately available but they'll probably have lots of leather and cogs in them and go vrrrrneeeerrrrroooooommmmm, if not wake you up at 8am on Saturday.

Sony Corporation is on track to deliver the targeted JPY 300 billion (USD 3 billion) in savings as part of the corporation's restructuring efforts to return to profitability.
The news came during the company's annual shareholder meeting, following plans announced at the end of last year - and updated in May this year - to close around eight manufacturing plants and slash 16,000 jobs.
"We're making good progress in our restructuring efforts and expect to save over JPY 300 billion in cost reductions in fiscal 2009," said the corporation's CEO Sir Howard Stringer, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"I can tell you we believe business is improving, and we hope to improve shareholder value in the months ahead," he added. "We're working on profit recovery and growth strategy, that's what we're committed to."
Sony's financial release in May headlined with a USD 1 billion loss blamed on "factors including the slowdown of the global economy, the appreciation of the yen and the decline in the Japanese stock market."
The corporation's share price was up 2 per cent to JPY 2525 (USD 26.09) at the close of the Tokyo Stock Exchange today.

Are you one of the more than 4,000 people (86%) that answered our poll saying you thought BD-Live was a waste of time, or didn't see any reason to give it a shot? We talked to Sony Pictures recently and were promised that more useful reasons for hooking the internet to Blu-ray discs & players were on the way, and today at a press event it showed why it thinks that will come true. Check out the the gallery for a few pics of its new MovieIQ app, quickly described as a "wiki for movies" that can tie into your discs and provide information from Gracenote on demand on nearly anything in the movie or even specific scene being watched, from actors & directors to background music. The first BD-Live discs with it should be available in September, we'll be back with more details shortly, for now just let the images do the talking.

Whether you want one for a cheap Father's Day gift, player for a second room, or just a low barrier to entry for Blu-ray ownership we certainly won't judge, and we suspect more than a few will be tempted by Meijer's offer of a $99 Curtis Mathes branded CMMBX130 Blu-ray player. Add on coupon code DOTMJR09 for free shipping, and its easy to over look its lack of surround sound analog outputs or Profile 2.0 support for the cheapest new Blu-ray player we've ever seen. Inside is the same Broadcom 7440 chipset that powered much higher priced players from Samsung and others in the past, so while the absolute latest in energy efficient, fast loading, BD-Live connected goodies may escape you, we figure that extra Benjamin or two in your pocket will be more than enough to compensate.

well, I found it strange to play the whole game without talking to anyone, so I've added trainers to each training station and got Daniel Chan to write up some dialog for them to guide you through the training to the final battle.
Version 0.61:
- added trainers who guide you through the whole Mage Master experience.
- fixed underpowered spells from increasing your opponent's health. It now says
attack was ineffective.
- moved game save to START so that those O saving loops go away
- use O to exit from battle preparation screens.
- all new mage upgrades now happen at green or white training centres
- rearranged the order of the training centres to have a more natural flow around the road, and switched the game save format. The order is now: white, yellow, red, blue, black (tournament) and green. Please consider restarting your game, I load, but don't gurantee the integrety of your old games.

News via PSPita/ Mfor mature
U3-Robot has released his own Custom Firmware (and then updated it) which adds onto the recent 5.50 Custom firmware released last week, heres both news items:
First, I think about making Fix Flasher 1.0 with many fixes, but I made an own firmware called 5.50 U3R.
Changes from 5.50 GEN:
VSH Menu has SHUTDOWN DEVICE option.
Recovery Menu has SPEEDUP MS options.
Installation:
1) You must install first 5.50 GEN as a shell (framework).
2) Copy u3rloader folder from a zip file to /PSP/GAME
3) Start 5.50U3R Installer from Game - Memory stick.
4) Click X to install firmware.
5) Enjoy!
Heres the info from the 2nd version released:
Changes from 5.50 U3R:
Fixed PSX Games - they are now working. (tested on Gran Turismo)
Fixed exit with O button - now working.
Added built-in plugins: (only for psp-2000, and still under construction)
LEDControl 0.2 (not working on my 2000)
Hold+ 3.7 (working on my 2000)
MusicPRX 390 (not working on my 2000)
Installation:
1) You must install first 5.50 GEN or 5.50 U3R as a shell (framework).
2) Delete u3rloader folder from /PSP/GAME if it is.
3) Copy u3rloader folder from a zip file to /PSP/GAME
4) Start 5.50U3R Installer from Game - Memory stick.
5) Click X to install firmware or Up with plugins.
6) Enjoy!
Like any firmware or app that uses the Flash area, there is a risk of bricking, so please use with care. If in doubt wait to see what the veterans of any community do.
