Xbox 360 bigwig Aaron Greenberg thinks Sony's motion-sensing wand for PS3 will share the same "fun" space as Wii, but believes Microsoft's Project Natal is "leapfrogging" them both.
"To me it looked similar to the Wii experience. You hold a remote or a wand: it looked very derivative of that - similar to other products on the market today," Greenberg told vg247. "I thought it was interesting and fun, just like the Wii is fun. I think it's great that they're sharing that space.
"What's clear is that what we're doing is, in many ways, leapfrogging over any of the experiences [demoed] today. We're trying to breakthrough... with a new controller in gaming and entertainment, and I think that will differentiate us, and in many ways remove another barrier to people who are intimidated by, not just controllers, but wands and having to push buttons and do things.
"To be able to just drive a car with your hands, or to be able to kick balls as you swing and kick your feet. It's a whole different type of experience," he added.
Microsoft and Sony both unveiled rival motion-sensing technology during their keynote addresses at E3. Microsoft revealed Project Natal, the heavily-rumoured camera-based motion sensor, which hopes to kick-start a controller-free future.
Sony, on the other hand, demoed a prototype wand controller that has in-built sensors like Wii but also a dome on the end that is picked up by the PS Eye. The technology was put through a number of on-stage demonstrations, each more impressive than the other, culminating in an archery mini-game that used two of the controllers at once.
Nintendo's conference was more subdued in comparison, but then the Wii already has motion-sensing, which improves this summer with the Wii MotionPlus peripheral.
Microsoft and Sony offered no release dates for their technology, and Greenberg wouldn't budge on providing a hint. Presumably his company will enter the market first, as developer kits have been sent out this week and Project Natal is finished hardware. Nevertheless, both could be at least two years' away.

Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that the forthcoming PlayStation 3 racer, Gran Turismo 5, is feature complete and could be released now if the company chose to.
However, in an interview with Eurogamer, he explained that they're continuing to work on the game in order to polish it and make it as close to perfect as possible.
"[The game is] at a point we can release it any time we want," he said. "I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it.
"It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail."
He added that the team was working on the connectivity between the PS3 and the PlayStation Portable version of the game.
"We're hoping maybe to make it so you can share the garage with the PSP version so that cars you unlock on PSP will be available immediately on GT5," he explained.
Meanwhile, Turn 10 - the developer behind Microsoft's highly-acclaimed racing franchise Forza Motorsport - has turned up the heat on Yamauchi-san and his team by claiming that it is creating "the definitive racing game of this generation".
Forza 3 is scheduled for an October release, while the GT5 date is unconfirmed but thought to be early 2010.

It's a rare thing for a portable game to best its console predecessor, but that's what might be happening in MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. BigBig, the team behind the cult PSP Pursuit Force games, know how to work the handheld and they've crafted an experience that handles far better than the console games. MotorStorm is known for its visceral races, but the juxtaposition of more "sim-like" controls in such an arcadey game didn't jive with us fully. Arctic Edge adopts the game a bit, by tweaking the controls to be a bit more responsive.
The end result is a game that's a bit more accessible, but no less fun and intense. Obviously, the PSP isn't capable of producing the visuals of a PS3, but BigBig has developed a brand new engine for Arctic Edge and it shows. This new generation engine far surpasses the last Pursuit Force game, by throwing an impressive amount of particles in fast, detailed levels. The animation on the vehicles is particularly terrific as each of the wheels respond to the various bumps on the ground.
While the controls are slightly tweaked, the overall gameplay should remain largely familiar to those that have played the previous two games. Once again, players will want to effectively manage boost and navigate a dynamic branching race course. Racing against a multitude of vehicle types is one of the highlights of the console games, and we're glad to see BigBig has expanded the garage with two new vehicles: the Snow Cat and the Snow Plow. Those of you that like the Monster Truck will get a blast out of this. The monstrous vehicle races at a surprising speed, and it's quite the intimidating vehicle to race against

So what will happen to all of your old UMD games if you buy a PSP Go? You'll be able to procure digital copies of those discs, maybe even for free.
I asked Sony's John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for Sony, what the company planned to do for their most loyal fanbase—those who'd amassed a large collection of UMDs but who'd also like to play these games on the Go. His response:
We're in the midst of putting together a good will program. We'll be unveiling that soon [because] we actually think there's a significant group that will be upgrading from the 1000...In the past, we've seen a 20-25% trade-up factor, and I assume that's going to be the case here. We've modeled that. So we're looking at a good-will program—a short term good-will program that would continue for years afterward."
Short-term for years afterward? In other words, the program itself will last for years, but these digital game copies will be tied to either when you bought the UMD or the PSP Go—such specifics were not made clear.
Speaking more regarding the technical aspects of the good will program, Koller explained while the distribution model was still in the planning stages, the user's experience would be similar to Portable Copy—a way in which Blu-ray movies can be ripped and converted from the PS3 to the PSP. However, Koller assured me that users would not be ripping their UMDs. Instead, it sounds like Sony will use a PSN-based digital distribution model will "encourage" users to sign up for the service.
But the neatest thing about Koller's Portable Copy comparison? Portable Copy is free. So we're doubting, but uncertain, as to whether or not Sony will be charging for this service. Unfortunately, Koller also slipped in that Sony's "looking at what kind of games will be offered." So Sony's good will program will probably not apply to every title in the PSP's library, but given that there are only a few that matter anyway, maybe this limitation isn't such a big deal.

News/release from exter
The Rubik's Cube is a 3D mechanical puzzle invented in Ernő Rubik. In a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered by 9 stickers, among six solid colors (traditionally white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow). A pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colors. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be a solid color.
The controls in this homebrew are designed to easily perform "Move notation" algorithms.
Version 1.6:
- Changed:
- Move animation speed is now 40% faster.
- The colors now match the colors of a real rubik's cube (parallel sides were previously inverted).
- Added:
- Timer (starts when the cube is scrambled and stops when the cube is solved).

The PSP go may have been one of the worst kept secrets of E3, but that hasn't stopped the new handheld from being one of the most talked about items at the show. The PSP go was on the showfloor at Sony's massive booth for all to play, but hidden atop Sony's tour of demo stations we found a platform where a case of new PSP go accessories were being displayed.
According to Sony reps, the accessories are all in prototype form and specifics on pricing and availability will not be announced until later this year. Still, we can get a rough idea of what Sony has in the works from what we saw, which included:
Padded Protective Sleeves
Charging/Docking Cradle
Redesigned Charging Cable
Component and Composite Cables with new connector
First-party Protective Screen Film
Apparently Sony has a number of other accessory concepts in development, but again, we won't hear more about them until the PSP go's release date nears.

Uberjack has released a new version of the Commodore 64 Emulator for PSP, heres whats new:
This is a bugfix release, fixing two issues in version 2.1.2:
Bugfix: Saving state while in NTSC mode resulted in a crash
Bugfix: An extra line from the screen border appeared while in NTSC mode
Please note that any existing NTSC save states you may have from 2.1.2 may still crash the emulator - if that happens, delete the save state.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it will return to the singing genre, with the advent of Karaoke Revolution, an all-new sing-along title for PLAYSTATION 3 and Wii which will be released in November.
Developed by Blitz Games, Karaoke Revolution allows up to 16 players to get together and take each other on in singing contests in an ongoing quest for fame! Perfect as either a solo game or a multi-player get-together, the new game offers 50 licensed tracks, with players charged with hitting a range of notes and earning points as they do so. The better they sing, the more they are rewarded, and the more opportunities are available to them.
Karaoke Revolution offers a number of key game modes, including a Party option for 16 users, which allows participants to compete against each other and create bespoke playlists. The PLAYSTATION 3 version will also feature wide-ranging online play, allowing users to compete with rival singers all over the globe and can also download additional tracks in the future. Similarly, Karaoke Revolution's online elements also allow users to download additional venues, plus new clothes and accessories.
Solo players can also enjoy Career Mode, wherein players can create their on-screen persona and lead them to singing glory. During the user's career, players start in a series of smaller venues, before unlocking bigger stages and accessories. Karaoke Revolution has ten new venues, each boasting elaborate themes and special effects, with amazing pyrotechnics and visual effects designed to complement the onscreen action. Similarly, players can customize up to six venues, and even play music videos behind their character on a jumbo screen!
Karaoke Revolution enjoys compatibility with all available wireless and USB microphones, and the PLAYSTATION 3 version enjoys full use of the EyeToy camera.

Much has been made about the recent announcement of Final Fantasy XIV Online for Playstation 3 and PC yesterday. But what will happen to Square-Enix's first MMO game, Final Fantasy XI?
During Square-Enix's Final Fantasy XIV Online live blog this afternoon, some light was shed on the subject.
Speaking through a translator, Square-Enix reps confirmed they'll be supporting FFXI with "new content" for at least one more year.
It's still unclear whether this means general updates or expansions. One would think Square-Enix wants to populate their new MMO with everyone currently playing Final Fantasy XI eventually, though.

Sony has dated God of War III for the PlayStation 3. And Namco Bandai has announced that series star protagonist Kratos is coming to Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. We're announcing that we've posted new screen shots.
The latest batch of God of War III screens features some very familiar scenes and scenarios. We saw them months ago. They feature Titans, minotaurs, chimera and locations that we've already seen—but that's okay! They're pretty screens regardless. And we'll see God of War III in person at E3 this week, as Sony has gobs of playable kiosks for us to plop down in front of.
Until then, we'll just pore over new media for the PS3 game. Then we'll make plans to sprint to the PlayStation space at the LACC when the doors open.

Rockstar North's new espionage title for the PlayStation 3 - Agent - will be genre-defining, according to Take-Two's CEO Ben Feder.
Although solid details on the new 70s-set thriller are being kept under wraps, a confident Feder told GamesIndustry.biz that the new title from the makers of Grand Theft Auto is a perfect fit for Sony's home console.
"The game, like anything from Rockstar North, is going to be very, very cool. It's going to push the edge, it's going to be genre-defining and it's going to be a whole new way of experiencing videogames that we haven't really seen before.
"They're the best development team on the planet," added Feder, referring to Rockstar North. "We have a lot of respect for Sony, we have a lot of good business relationships with Sony. The PlayStation platforms are best suited for the title."
Feder said the company decided to go with Sony on a PlayStation 3 exclusive to help market the new title in a busy marketplace, at the sacrifice of reaching a larger audience by going multiformat.
"Exclusives do work when you weigh up the pros and the cons, the positives and the negatives of doing an exclusive, they work even at this stage of the console cycle," offered Feder.
"The trade-offs are that on the one hand if you don't go exclusive you get access to a much larger installed base but if you do go exclusive you get the support of first party publishers in a way that you wouldn't normally expect to."

LittleBigPlanet for the PSP packs all of the character and creation of the original into a more portable format, but the PSP Go's button layout presented a small stumbling block.
During a tour of Sony's booth at E3 2009 yesterday I got a chance to poke around in LittleBigPlanet on the PSP Go, and while the overall experience was every bit what you'd expect from a portable version of the game, my choice to play through on the new PSP Go proved to be more of an obstacle than the delight I was hoping for.
Senior designer Gareth Hughes waited patiently while I got myself acclimated to the new handheld, enjoying the weight in my hand while questioning Sony's choice to lock the systems open so we couldn't try the sliding mechanism, one of the system's biggest features. After a brief bout of new toy giddiness, I launched into the game.
There were two levels available to play in the E3 demo; a challenge map and a normal one. Tight for time, I tried out the normal level, and it was indeed LittleBigPlanet. The physics are similar to the PlayStation 3 title, and sackboy looses none of his charm with his new, smaller size.
As I stumbled through the level, Gareth explained that the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet would have its own community, echoing the PlayStation 3 version without actually integrating with it. They are looking into finding a way to get levels from the PS3 to work on the PSP, but he didn't seem too confident that that would happen. It's a pity, but it looks like PS3 level creators will just have to Play Create Share all over again.
I at first thought that the pop-up menu randomly appearing as I played was a glitch, or a symptom of my being distracted while talking, but I soon realized that the smaller PSP Go button layout was causing the problem. Unless I concentrated on avoiding it, nearly every time I hit the X button to jump, I was also hitting the Square button to open the menu. Even actively concentrating on avoiding it I managed to launch the pop-up maybe 1 out of 10 times. It was amazingly frustrating and I wound up stepping away from the demo level before finishing because of it.
Gareth helpfully suggested that perhaps we'll need to retrain ourselves a little for the new device, but that doesn't seem right, does it? Isn't intuitive control a hallmark of good gadget design?
I still plan on picking up the handheld when it launches this October...I suppose I have no choice, considering my job. I just hope the retraining doesn't take too long.

Sony has whipped the wrappers off of echochrono (working title) for PSP, a brand new spin-off of echochrome - the Escher-like puzzler where shifting perspectives make minds melt.
Echochrono's based around the same idea, but introduces the "new" concept of self co-op, which entails working with your own ghosts to clear a level. That means added puzzle mechanics that can't be solved alone; moving objects, doors with switches and crumbling floors all get a mention.
Each time a level is restarted a new ghost appears, and there are around 30 puzzle types to conquer. Action will be spread over nine themed worlds and there will be around 45 levels, with more added later as DLC through PSN.
The first batch of echochrono shots show a coloured world that appears to be two-dimensional, and not a rotating 3D affair like before.
Echochrono is due out this autumn/winter.

Namco Bandai must have an entire department dedicated to finding new ways and characters to market with its Soulcalibur brand. Following last year's ballet with the Force, the company has announced that God of War's Kratos will be taking out his frustration on the cast of Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny for the PSP.
What with all of his disemboweling and afternoons on the links, we honestly don't know how everyone's favorite Spartan with a chip on his shoulder fits bickering with Soulcalibur brawlers into his busy schedule. Nevertheless, the Ghost of Sparta will appear as a guest character in the miniaturized fighter. We just hope he's on his best behavior while in someone else's house when Broken Destiny ships later this summer.

Sony US boss Jack Tretton has confirmed a PS3 version of Metal Gear Solid: Rising.
Hideo Kojima unveiled the game for Xbox 360 during the Microsoft E3 conference, leaving a fog of doubt surrounding the platforms.
"Spoke to Tretton - he confirmed Metal Gear Rising is absolutely coming to PS3 alongside Xbox 360," Tweeted Geoff Keighley, presenter of GameTrailers TV (spotted by the twitchy fly-eye of vg247).
No dates have been mentioned for Rising. All we know so far is that Solid Snake will not be the central character. Instead, we'll control metal-mouth Raiden, who's been a franchise familiar for years and has some adept moves of his own. Nice hair, too.
