Hey, remember that Gamasutra feature where Michael Pachter said Xbox Twitter was the greatest thing of E3? Yeah, well in that very same feature, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz had some choice words for the PlayStation Motion Controller. Specifically, Creutz believes that while Project Natal may have gotten the bulk of E3 coverage, the PlayStation Motion Controller is the better peripheral for hardcore gamers.
"Natal appeared to me to be a technological solution in search of a problem," said Creutz. "I had a very hard time envisioning playing Modern Warfare 3 using Natal," he said, adding, "By contrast, I had a very easy time envisioning it (and enjoying it) using Sony's control/motion capture scheme." Creutz stated that Microsoft is likely trying to snag some of the Wii's casual marketshare -- "a difficult proposition given that you're essentially asking casual gamers to upgrade twice during the cycle," according to Creutz -- while Sony's device caters more to the core gaming demographic.
We must point out that neither Project Natal nor the PlayStation Motion Controller are finished products, so there's no telling how they might be implemented in future games. For example, there's no reason that Natal couldn't make use of both motion sensing and traditional control, similar to Sony's device. Furthermore, we'd say Sony is probably just as keen to capture some of the casual market as Microsoft.

Another PS3 firmware update is "coming soon", according to the US PlayStation blog.
Once you've installed update 2.80, "The playback quality of some PlayStation 3 format software has been improved."
The update's not available yet though - we just checked - so you'll have to put up with the slightly less good playback quality of some PlayStation 3 format software in the meantime.

Sky Broadband is fixing an error that has been blocking UK customers from accessing and using the PlayStation Network between 5pm and midnight.
The system mistakenly classified PSN as a traffic-heavy application, and therefore sought to prevent or block connections to it during peak hours. Fixing this is a matter of priority, Sky says.
"Our network management system mistakenly classified PlayStation 3 traffic in a way which meant some customers using their consoles to access the internet may have had their speeds reduced, in line with our network management policy for Sky Broadband Connect," Sky told our sister site Eurogamer in a statement.
"This was a mistake and resulted from a systems error, for which we apologise. Our team is working on fixing this as a matter of urgency. All other Sky Broadband users are unaffected, as there are no traffic management policies in place for our on-network broadband services."
Traffic management, Sky went on to say, only applies to Sky Broadband Connect users using peer-to-peer applications.
"There are no restrictions in place for applications such as web browsing, email, video and audio streaming, instant messaging and VOIP during peak times. And we do not put restrictions on our network outside of peak times (5pm to midnight)," added the company.
European PlayStation forum users reported the first problems late last week. Some users have spent entire evenings signed out of the PlayStation 3 online service.

There might be more incoming Final Fantasy games than you can count with all your fingers and toes but guess what? There's one more. The PSone version of the original Final Fantasy - the very first one - is coming to PSN soon.
The Japanese boys, at least, got it today, according to the official PlayStation Site (translated for western brains by ScrawlFX). This week's UK PSN update will be confirmed tomorrow, as usual, but we're doubtful that we'll get the game over here so quickly. You can hope though.
The download weighs in at 60MB and is going for 600 Yen (around £3.80).

Some very interesting news i found at pspita who in turn got it from french site pspgen:
Heres the translated details:
Sony and the software house to pass counterattack. E 'of the news yesterday that the game Evangelion: Jo, for now this only on the Japanese market, is able to recognize the presence of the PSP Custom Firmware that is started. This is done by making a check on the RAM of the console, and whether this is positive, the game will not start. The solution to the problem might be but just around the corner. Like the CF-A 5.02GEN has a feature that allows you to emulate an official firmware, soon also the last 5.50GEN CF will benefit from this option.
We will keep you updated when new.
We thank you for reporting cesy94
How long before every game features some anti custom firmware check, interesting times ahead, bit of a downer if you buy a game and because you have custom firmware you cant play it

Nick Swardh has released a new version of his Video Encoder for the PSP, heres whats new:
Yup, another PSPVC version has been release and ready for action!
This version ain't loaded with some new fancy-pants features or anything like it, this is basically a quick update that fix a DirectX check-bug that was introduced in the previous version for Windows 7 users. I've also corrected some issues with the pad/crop features effecting the "original" view when previewing the video before converting it.
Also, in case you didn't notice, I've also fixed the youtube video-downloader - it's now working again, ooh happy day...
Download PSPVC v3.72

Today, the independent game developer, Curve Studio, announced that its upcoming PlayStation Network game, Explodemon!, would be coming to the PSPgo -- when the PSPgo eventually hits store shelves. The game is already scheduled for launch on the PlayStation Store later this year, but now a portable version will follow.
Curve Studio Managing Director Jason Perkins comments: "as one of Europe's leading PSP developers we're very excited about the announcement of PSPgo. With its focus on digital distribution, PSPgo represents a great opportunity for us to capitalize on our experience on the platform and bring our own IP to portable gamers."
Explodemon! is a 2D platformer that features a slick visual style and an exploding robot (obviously).
