Vogster wants PSP brawler Unbound Saga to recapture the glory of Streets of Rage when it's released on PlayStation Network next month.
The nostalgic, tongue-in-cheek action focuses on Rick Ajax, a tough and grizzled comic-book hero surrounded by trouble. He's had enough of trouble, though, and enough of being in a comic book, and so he sets off to find his maker (the author).
Lori Machete - a quick and skilful fighter - will join and complement him, and they can both unlock new powers and abilities through a skill tree as they go.

Augmented reality (AR) has mostly been limited to research labs and the occasional cool webcam trick, but it's slowly becoming more plausible as a means for new forms of portable games. We saw one such title -- Sony's Invizimals for PSP -- at E3 and were wowed by its insertion of CG objects into "reality" using the system's camera add-on. Now a tech demo from Georgia Tech Augmented Environments Lab and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD-Atlanta) gives us a glimpse at even more possibilities for these games on devices such as iPhone, PSP and Nintendo DSi.
Titled ARhrrr (geddit?), the game is a zombie shooter in which a flat tabletop map produces a cityscape seen on the handheld (in this case a prototype device from Nvidia). The city's populated with zombies, the handheld can be moved around at any angle and the overlayed city rotates accordingly. The idea behind the demo is that players are controlling a helicopter flying above the outbreak and can shoot zombies by tapping the screen. It's limited, but nonetheless really cool.
We've popped the demo footage after the break to rock your non-augmented reality. It's pretty impressive. So, what implimentations of AR on handhelds would you like to see?

June 18th, 2009, 18:49 Posted By: wraggster
Activision Blizzard has briefed its advertising agency TBWA to make the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the "biggest entertainment launch of all time".
The publisher wants the Infinity Ward-developed title to eclipse previous records set by games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, which sold 3.6 million units on its first day with a retail value of USD 310 million.
"We believe the idea that TBWA presented to us delivers on that goal," said Brad Jakeman, chief creative officer of Activision, speaking to Ad Age.
"What we liked most about the TBWA campaign is that it's an idea that's big enough to be articulated in lots of different kind of media. That is always the acid test for a great idea."
While the campaign is currently under wraps, it's expected to incorporate TV, print, outdoor, social and online media.
"The strategic objective is not to just run advertising on day one and say, 'Go to a retailer and buy the game,' but it is to really start building a movement and start broadening the audience for beyond a core gamer audience," added Jakeman.
Earlier in the week, analyst Mike Hickey predicted that Modern Warfare 2 can sell over 11 million units the fiscal year, pulling in USD 803 million for Activision.
"We estimate the combined Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 installed base for US and Europe has grown 125 per cent and 200 per cent, respectively since Modern Warfare's November '07 release, ushering in a remarkably larger market opportunity for Modern Warfare 2," said Hickey.

Retailers have begun to price highly-anticipated Hero titles from Activision before the publisher has stamped an official RRP on the items.
Amazon.com is currently listing DJ Hero, the next title in the best-selling music franchise, for USD 119.99 (GBP 73), complete with turntable peripheral, ahead of its October launch.
The Band Hero Bundle, which comes complete with guitar, drums and microphone, is listed by Play.com for GBP 149.99 on Wii and PlayStation 2, and down for release in November.
Activision's Guitar Hero boss Dan Rosensweig recently stated that international growth outside of the US was one of the main focuses for the company's music brands, with DJ Hero in particular targeted at a more European audience.

Goumba the coder of Sabacc Basics a Star Wars game for the PSP has posted this in our PSP Emulation and Homebrew Forum:
Hey guys,
First forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
I've been working on Sabacc Basics. Unfortunately, I've broken my hand which makes it difficult for me to continue and I don't have as much time as I used to anyway. So it doesn't seem like I've forgotten the project, I'm offering the source to anyone who wishes to continue developing SB.
Please excuse any typos or grammatical errors. I am trying to make this as easy on my hand as possible, so I'm going to type and not do too much editing.
A few notes:
1. I am a self taught programmer, and was learning along the way. I have no formal training in programming. This is my first project I've gotten anywhere with using C++ (much less SDL, etc). As such, the code may not be nice to look at, and many things probably could have been done better. I am not a programmer by trade and never will be. Please don't make fun of the code.
2. On that note, if you choose not to release the source, I request you at least share with me so that I may learn where I could have improved things. Possibly for a future project if I have the time.
3. Please give me some credit.
4. I may, however it is unlikely once I give up the source, resume SB at a later time. Or, I may re-use the name in an entirely new project. At such time, those who volunteer to continue SB may still do so. I am not one of those people who will ask others to cease. This is a free project and will always be so as far as I am concerned. Likewise, I am asking that none who pick up the project try to make it "exclusive," by asking others to stop developing SB.
One other option I am considering is making this a community project, putting it up on sourceforge or the like, and adding as maintainers those who are interested.

Alexandre Salvatore has today released a new game for the PSP, heres the release notes:
To use the game just place the following folder in the “Game” directory of your memory stick. This Game has been test on the Custom firmware 3.90 M33
About the Game
RedHoody was left for dead after his final fight against the Big Bad Wolf. Racoons stole his heart and replaced it by a robotic heart. But RedHoody is not dead and its makes sense than his barely indestructible heart will back! She will need to jolt his body to keep running his fake heart and stay in condition (of course, this game is a total parody of Crank II High Voltage).
This demonstration is an Alpha version, just to show the concept. There just one screen and no scrolling, but it’s enough to play. The game using the Euphoria LUA Player V.2 ( big thank for the V.4 which will allow me to make scrolling!).
I’m also French so don’t hesitate to notice me my awful fault of English. Alessandro
How to
Press X to fire
Plug you PSP’s battery cable to reload your voltage in case of emergency
Try to take the more bonuses you can, hoping than your life or your jolt lines don’t touch the zero!
Bugs…
-Many bug of collision ^^
-Some time the game crash (may be because I don’t erase all the loaded images? Is there a function in LUA for this?)
For the next versions…
-There will be a complete level
-Work on the collision (especially for the bonus)
-Bloody animations
-An interactive introduction
-A boss

Here's a batch of Ashes Cricket 2009 screenshots, to coincide with news that English batsman Kevin Pietersen will be the "face" of the game.
Pietersen joins Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne and Sir Ian Botham in Ashes Cricket 2009's player line-up.
"I am delighted to be involved with the official game of the Ashes," said 'KP' (like the peanuts). "The game looks fantastic and I'm sure both England and Australia fans are going to relish the opportunity to take part in a virtual Ashes series. Representing your country in the Ashes is a huge honour and I can't wait for it to start."
Codies promises to "build on the heritage" of its classic Brian Lara series with "great batting, bowling and fielding gameplay and authenticity".
It's out for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC in August.

Wanna code and create homebrew like a champ? Then you should check out Brick’s LTE LITE MOD. A couple HBI:2 projects already use it:
Brick’s own PSPMarble;
SG57’s Light Cycle 3D.
Those who have tried in the past to develop games with LTE, they probably know that it’s nearly “impossible” to create a full featured game without suffering from low FPS.
This mod improves the rendering part, and actually turns Irrlicht port into a clean and fast renderer (well, as it could be with this old pspgl driver).

SG57 has posted a new version of his game for the PSP, heres the release notes from him:
More to the point, here is an update to the game I had entered into the PSP-Hacks Homebrew Idol 2 competition - Light Cycle 3D. I got great feedback from the initial release with many suggestions and I am listening!
What's new in the Update:
You can now turn while looking to the side and behind you.
You can now skip the AI dukin' it out amongst themselves after you die by pressing Select (onscreen instructions say this as well)
The gameplay now speeds up to 3x the pace after you die to speed things up - enjoy seeing who won in fast-forward.
The race now starts when I say 'Go!', ready or not!
Fireworks for the winner! Hazahh!
Bug Fixes & Tweaks:
Fixed a bug where cycling through your mp3's too fast would cause a crash - it is no more, cycle as fast as you want
Tweaked the lighting of many things to more illuminate the playing field and tracers/rails.
Extended the flare trail you leave behind you
More graphical tweaks here and there (moved the tracers down a bit, etc.)
Adjusted sound effect levels to balance them with the music level.
Replaced the name of an AI; it was tasteless, dry humor. I hope those who it upset can forgive me.
The game is becoming more well-rounded. It is quite addicting and a nice time killer, just whip it out (O.o) and race around for a bit while jamming to your own mp3s at your own desired speed, difficulty, number of enemies, skin and colors
.:.:.:UpDaTe v2.01:.:.:.
* Songs with track names will now be displayed if they are available!

One of the better recent anime adaptations is getting a sequel. Famitsu reports that Macross Ace Frontier, released last year as a Japanese exclusive for the PSP, will be followed up later this year by Macross Ultimate Frontier. PSP is once again the game's target platform.
Ultimate Frontier promises to retain the basics of its predecessor as far as gameplay goes, but Namco Bandai is adding in a new Missile Alert system, which tells you when you're about to be on the receiving end of one of the series' trademark missile storms. Another new feature for the game is the Support Character System, which sees heroines from the Macross series appear along side you in battle.
For Macross fans, this looks like it could be the ultimate title. In addition to the original Macross, the title will feature elements and scenes from Do You Remember Love, Flash Back 2012, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Dynamite 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Zero. New characters for Ultimate Frontier include Lynn Minmay and Roy Focker.
Ultimate Frontier is currently 70% complete and will see Japanese release in 2009. Given the quality of the original, we're looking forward to a quality product. The only question is if Namco Bandai can come up with a way of sharing the game with the whole world this time.

When Sony first revealed Afrika, it was a marquee first-party PS3 title used to show off the power of the system. Three years later, it's finally being released in North America, by tiny third-party publisher Natsume, who is more familiar with Harvest Moon and handheld games than anything shown off at a press conference. How did this happen?
According to Graham Markay, Vice President of Operations for Natsume, Finny the Fish was instrumental in the deal. No, really. Sony's Uo: Nanatsu no Mizu to Densetsu no Nushi was localized on the PS2 by Natsume as Finny the Fish & the Seven Waters.
"We have a relationship with Sony Japan," Markay explained. "You might remember Finny the Fish? That game was done by Sony Japan. So we licensed that game from them. We have a little bit of a history with their licensing department in Japan." Because of this relationship, Natsume was one of the companies contacted by Sony Japan about the game. Markay said that Afrika "really fits with the Natsume theme" because it's non-violent and nature-oriented. We might add that it fits with the Natsume theme so well that the company is simultaneously releasing a different safari photography game on the Wii.
In case you need an extra incentive to buy Afrika, Markay confirmed that "there is going to be a trophy system, which wasn't in the Asian release or Japanese release."

via Computer and Video Games
Grasshopper, the developer behind mental Wii game No More Heroes, is apparently continuing its bonkers trend by making a "risky" PS3 title that has publisher Marvelous Entertainment worried.
"If we do that [game] we might go bankrupt," said Marvelous president Yasuhiro Wada, apparently while laughing (did the translator get this right?).
"We are making it, but if we make everything then it's a little too risky," he went on to tell Siliconera. He held back on actual game info though, "because it's secret we can't really go into details."
Grasshopper has previously talked of a PS3 title it has in development called Kurayami, which apparently means "darkness" in Japanese.
Any ideas?
