The PS3 offers more than just games and Blu-ray movies: it is also an excellent online media center. Online video service Joost has recently introduced their PS3 interface, which is yet another good addition to the PS3 media experience.
Joost was created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, who founded Skype and Kazaa. Joost features only professional videos: music videos, tv series, movies, sports, news and more. Joost’s partners include CBS, Viacom (including Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon), Sony Pictures Television and the Warner Bros. Television Group.
When I started using Joost in May 2007, it worked with a desktop player based on peer-to-peer TV technology. In December 2008, Joost became a flash-based, download-free global web video service. Recently Joost introduced a PS3 interface at Joost Labs which can be accessed with the PS3’s internet browser. The Joost PS3 interface fully operates with just the directional buttons of the PS3 controller and the x button. Using the up and down directional buttons you can browse videos and using the left and right button you can access more info or open a menu that enabled you to open the list of staff picks, popular video or similar videos to the one you are currently watching. It also has a music mash option, that allows you to type in an artist and get videos of that artist and similar ones.
One of the things I miss in the current Joost PS3 interface is the option to log into my Joost account to watch the videos on my favorites list or to add new videos to it. But I guess this will be introduced eventually. Furthermore, not all of Joost’s video content is available on PS3, due to agreements that have to be made with some of the partners.
But I see the Joost PS3 interface as a great addition: great content, no need to install anything and all for free. Have you used Joost for PS3 yet? What do you think?

Like playing arcade shooters on your PSP? Strikers 1945 Plus is a game to look out for. The portable version of Psikyo’s Strikers is coming to North America. PM Studios, the company that brought DJ Max outside of Asia, is publishing Strikers 1945 Plus domestically, but only as a PlayStation Network download. Earlier this year, Strikers 1945 Plus was released as a retail game in Hong Kong and Korea.
The “Plus” in Strikers 1945 Plus refers to revamped graphics and a new endless play mode created for the PSP. Strikes 1945 Plus also has an ad-hoc cooperative mode and six planes to play with.
PM Studios will release Strikers 1945 Plus in July for an unannounced price.

It's almost three months since we first spotted the PS Cloud trademark and some fake details have been "leaked out." Allegedly, PlayStation Cloud is like MobileMe for the PSN. A cloud-based system which will hold all your contacts, save files, stats and in-game videos and screenshots online, so they can be accessed from any PS3.
Not only that, but these leaked details -- along with the screenshot above -- imply that the service would substantially improve the PSN's community features, showing peoples activity in realtime. As welcome as these features would be (very!), we've received feedback from the PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein. "This 'mockup' is pure conjecture. This is 100% fake."
We're glad to see Sony quashing rumors before they get out of hand. As for the fact this PlayStation Cloud info is fake? We could be happier.

Why can't every developer be Infinity Ward? When asked by Videogamer.com why Modern Warfare 2's co-op was limited to two players, spokesman Robert Bowling said, "Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That's when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things."
Bowling also said that the whole game won't be playable in co-op because the developer is "crafting a very specific experience" and doesn't want to "ruin that by cramming co-op into it." While it's nice to see a company stick to its guns like that, we figure developers who sell a hojillion copies of a game can pretty much write their own menus

Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII has become the "fastest selling PS one title on PlayStation Network since the game launched" accumulating over 100,000 downloads for the PlayStation 3 and PSP following its addition to the North American PlayStation Store.
Final Fantasy VII, originally released on the PlayStation in 1997, hit the PlayStation Store on June 2nd. Over 100,000 downloads in a fortnight is a nice haul for Square Enix and Sony Computer Entertainment, considering the classic Japanese role-playing game was released at the premium PS one Classics price of $9.99 USD.
Sony announced today it will continue its plans for more PS one releases, confirming Wild Arms 2, Mobile Light Force (aka Psikyo's shooting game Gunbird) and Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol as upcoming, undated releases.

LittleBigPlanet-developer Media Molecule is "expanding." Stop looking surprised! After winning more gee oh tee why awards for their maiden voyage than they probably had room for in their small Guildford-based studio, they're expanding! But, if a "job listing" is to be believed, this expansion isn't limited to an awards wing – they're also hiring a "Gameplay Programmer."
This code wizard is expected to not only have 2+ years industry experience, but also to have "shipped a console game with an online component," an unsurprising requirement considering the studio's (admittedly singular) pedigree. The job listing states that MM is "working on a ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" – as much as we'd like to announce "LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed" we're not convinced this description necessarily means a followup game. After all, with DLC still in production on LittleBigPlanet – which is a ground-breaking, AAA PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment – this could be related to maintaining LBP as a platform.
But, of course, they're working on other games – expanding the PS3 development team to maintain the already shipped LBP doesn't make sense ... and the job listing does say the applicant "will be expected to maintain and improve the existing code and data structures." Existing code? Data structures? Oh emm gee! LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed!

Namco Bandai has announced an October 27th release for Tekken 6 in North America, promising it will appear in Europe, Japan and Asia "shortly thereafter".
That date applies to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. There will also be a PSP version, but the press release doesn't give it a more precise release date than the autumn.
Namco also revealed that it would be selling the game bundled with a wireless Hori arcade stick and an art book for USD 149.99, but there's no word on whether this deal will make it to Europe.
Tekken 6 has been in Japanese arcades since late 2007, but arrives on consoles - including, for the first time, Xbox - with an all-new Scenario Campaign beat-'em-up mode for solo and co-op play.

EA's Peter Moore says that Sony's new motion control tech and MS' Project Natal provide a "huge opportunity" for EA.
"I think they are going to impact us very positively," Moore said of the new controllers. "Anything that uses motion and movement -- obviously sports is incredibly a part of that.
"We have seen both Natal and the motion controller from Sony several months ago, so we're already, in both instances, looking at opportunities to bring our licensed product [and] our fitness product, to these new controller mechanisms. I can't think about anybody better positioned than us to do that," he added.
"If you think about everything everybody's always wanted to do with a sports video game, so much of the feedback you get is, 'I just wish I could' -- as we're starting to do -- "punch and something reacts." So you think of Fight Night: Round 4, for example, if it were in a first-person mode it would be very very cool. So those are the things we're starting to look at. Huge opportunity for us," said Moore.
Which games do you think would work best with the two companies' motion offerings?

The Punisher: No Mercy will launch on the US PSN on July 2 for $9.99, says developer Zen Studios and it should know.
The game runs on the Unreal Engine 3, and is "designed with fast-paced online multiplayer FPS action in mind", according to the PR.
"With inspiration rooted in the Punisher's rich Marvel Comics history, the game allows players to choose from an eclectic mix of Punisher allies and villains. Battle arenas span from shipyards rife with contraband to the "birthplace" of the Punisher's arch enemy, Jigsaw, and up to eight players can blast away at each other in a variety of solo and team-based missions," says the developer.
There's a load of screenshots right here, and it looks pretty cool for a download-only title. Without a UK release announcement though, the official date over here remains to be "spring".

Sony has taken a few of its developers aside and doled out a few new morsels of info about its upcoming PlayStation 3 motion controller. Leaving the Sixaxis as the black sheep of the family, the wand supports force feedback from the get-go, and up to four of the devices can be tracked at one time. The technology can work in conjunction with PlayStation Eye's face / head tracking and built-in mic, but naturally that's gonna tax the Cell processor more. The company's reportedly considering some joint use of the motion remote and standard controller, with the example given of holding the wand as sword and DualShock 3 as shield. We're not sure if that'll somehow count additionally toward the max wand limit -- probably not, at the expense of not using the more accurate color-changing ball tracker -- but it's definitely more cost efficient for the consumer than having to pick up another remote. Tentatively launch window is still Spring 2010, which as it turns out is infinitely more than what we know about Natal's release date at this point.

Got a knack for fighting titles? Have a particular fondness for Tekken? If so, you definitely shouldn't be playing with a stock controller, and that's exactly why Hori has crafted the beauty you're inevitably peering at above. The stick, which will ship as part of a Tekken 6 Wireless Fight Stick Bundle bundle, will be made available soon for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (shown after the break), and according to our pals over at Joystiq, it'll be on sale at a variety of respected retailers for $150. Said MSRP also includes a collectible art book and a pinch of pride, which totally justifies the somewhat steep asking price. Right? Right.

The mental-looking car in the photos below is the GTbyCitroen, a Citroen concept supercar designed specifically for Gran Turismo 5 and then made in real life. Cool, huh?
It has been spending the day today touring central London through places like Trafalgar square, Piccadilly and Regent Street as part of an effort to recreate a section of the London street course in GT5.
"The result of a unique partnership between Citroën and Polyphony, the GTbyCITROËN concept measures nearly five metres long (4.96m) and just over a metre high (1.09m) with an impressive supercar design sporting wide air intakes, rear air-diffuser, horizontal LED headlamps, gull wing doors and diamond-effect 21inch aluminium wheels," says the release. And we want one.
The GTbyCitroen will be on show at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (3-5 July), and will climb the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill as part of the Sunday Times Supercar Run.
GT5 is expected out late next year. Gran Turismo on PSP, however, will (finally) be out on October 1, alongside the new PSP Go.
