It was September 12 last year when the coder dan369 has released the first version of its PSP homebrew game Mario The New Worlds, as you can guess from the name, rather faithfully reproduces the good old Super Mario Bros. on your PSP. Today, after a few months, it shall be the third revision of the program with several improvements of a purely graphic (see additional animations, better textures to finish levels etc.). Optimizations and gameplay as the completion of the enemy AI, the 'adding invisible blocks and other minor details, remember that you can play all levels with Mario with Luigi.
Below you will find a demonstration video, the full changelog, and the link to download.
Changelog-Video:
Quote:
• Finished off the Red Koopa a.i
• Finished off the stand alone coins
• Improved the tails and the lagging with shells hitting
• Added in Background Music for Hurry Overworld Both the version and versione general
• Improved the animation code by using INSTEAD OF timers counter based (still dislike the timer module hugely though)
• Added Invisible blocks in (YAY!)
• Completely changed the movement and jumping to a more progressive form static Rather Than by this I mean you can build up speed and speed loss by moving / not moving, same goes for jumping, the Longer you hold X the higher you jump just Compared to tapping it.
• Added clipping logic blocks on WHERE you if you'd barely clipped a block to be Placed on the side Which you hit it Rather Than Actually hitting it. (Used in the brick blocks,? Mark Invisible blocks and blocks)
• Added 2 more levels, the first is very big at 650x17 (More Than Double the original) is the seconded 350x17 (i think, can not remember But It's Their around)
• In Death Added animations for Both Koopas (green & red) & for goombas When hit by shell.
• Changed the positioning of the HUD to fill the screen and added more A Few Improvements to make it look more like the original for example, the score is now 0 0000000 INSTEAD OF just the like the old version
• Have a "OK" menu now Which Should not confused anyone on Which character to pick the GFX still isn't great at loading screen is Now Also Present Takes 3 seconds to load everything
• Reverted to using the classic old school Mario 8bit graphics, fit in with the game a lot better now and less hassle for me seeing as the custom sprites Exactly Were not used to the stairs.

The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on April 1, 2010 (JST), and will disable the “Install Other OS” feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models, launched in September 2009. This feature enabled users to install an operating system, but due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.21 system software update.

JaicraB has posted info about a method which can be used to dump lv2 RAM in PS3 where the hypervisor code resides, check his blog post here (Google translated from Spanish). The hardware mod described keeps RAM from being erased during reboot of the PS3 which allows the user to dump the desired memory region from Linux (Other OS) using the Glitch Hack. "

ScummVM has been updated, heres what it is for those who dont know what it is:
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky and Broken Sword I & II; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.
Its out for most consoles we cover which are:
Dreamcast
Nintendo DS
Apple Iphone/Ipod Touch
PSP
PS2
N64
S60/UIQ Phones
Heres the release news:
Another 4 months passed, a lot of hard work done... and finally it is here: ScummVM 1.1.0 is available now on our downloads page.
There are some pretty exciting new features: We added support for 16bit graphics, which allowed us to add support for a whole bunch of newer Humongous Entertainment games for kids. We also added or improved support for the Amiga versions of Monkey Island, Legend of Kyrandia and Future Wars. Plus there are two completely new engines for the games Dragon History (available for free from here) and TeenAgent (available for free from GOG.com). And finally there is now a port for the Nintendo 64 game console!
Take a look at the release notes if you want to know a bit more.
There is one grain of salt, though: If you want to play Nippon Safes Inc, we recommend that you stick with your current ScummVM version for now, as there are some nasty regressions in there which may even make it impossible to complete the game. Also the background music in Pajama Sam 1 isn't working correctly in the Kitchen and Mine areas anymore.
We are not happy about that, but in the end decided that we should not let this hold up the other new cool stuff we added. Instead, we will follow up this release in about four weeks with a 1.1.1 release that should fix these issues. In fact, you can help us make 1.1.1 even better by reporting any bugs you might encounter in 1.1.0.
Heres whats new in this release:
1.1.0 (2010-04-04)
New Games:
- Added support for Blue's Art Time Activities.
- Added support for Blue's Reading Time Activities.
- Added support for Freddi Fish 5: The Case of the Creature of Coral Cove.
- Added support for Pajama Sam: Games to Play on Any Day.
- Added support for SPY Fox 3: Operation Ozone.
- Added support for Dragon History.
- Added support for TeenAgent.
General:
- Added support for a custom SJIS font for FM-TOWNS and PC98 games.
- Added support for 16bit graphics. (GSoC Task)
- Removed QuickTime MIDI backend on Mac OS X; it was buggy and did not
compile on modern systems.
CinE:
- Added support for Amiga style menus for Amiga versions of Future Wars.
KYRA:
- Added support for the Amiga version of The Legend of Kyrandia.
(sound support was done as a GSoC Task)
- Adapted KYRA to support the custom SJIS font.
SCUMM:
- Added support for the PC-Engine version of Loom.
- Added support for music and sound effects in the the Amiga version of
The Secret of Monkey Island. (GSoC Task)
- Fixed some other bugs related to game versions for the Amiga.
- Added support for original save/load dialog in MM NES.
- Added support for savepoint passcodes for Sega CD MI1 via debugger command 'passcode'
- Added support for Kanji rendering in Japanese version of Monkey Island Sega CD.
Thanks to the ScummVM guys for one of the premier homebrew releases this year

The Openbor Engine has again been updated for consoles, Wii, Wiz, GP2x, Dreamcast, Dingoo and PSP:
History
----------------------
As fans of the 'Streets of Rage' series that originally appeared on the SEGA
megadrive/genesis, we always wanted to see streets of rage 4. But the waiting
proved futile, and streets of rage 4 never came. That's why we tried to correct
this mistake and fill the void by making the ultimate tribute to Streets of Rage:
Beats of Rage!!
Development
----------------------
Beats of Rage was created by Senile Team. However, the character sprites and
some parts of the backgrounds are taken from 'the King of Fighters' games by
SNK Playmore. Therefore special thanks go out to SNK Playmore and SEGA who
unknowingly helped in creating this game.
Beats of Rage and OpenBOR are a free, fully functional game, which includes
music, and features six playable levels plus a bonus level. It is available
for many systems
Whats New:
Freezetime and Frozen are now available to getentityproperty(). Previously they were only open to changeentityproperty().
Level spawn aggression setting is now added to model's original aggression setting instead of replacing it.

Are you one of the few people who still need new content on the PS2? It looks like Sony may be reaching into the depths of its PSP archive to find more ports to bring to the aging console. The ESRB has appended its rating for Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow -- the latest (and arguably greatest) entry in Sony's stealth franchise -- with both PSP and PS2 as the listed platforms.
It seems to be quite a stretch to think that Sony would invest the time and money to release a PS2 port so late into the system's life cycle (we've contacted Sony and the ESRB, to be clear). And while Logan's Shadow is a terrific game, it's strange that Sony would want to port a game that is already nearly three years old. Perhaps that effort could be better used on creating a PS3 iteration of the franchise?

Though we've all played some form of Jedi-centric game throughout the course of our lives, some of our younger readers may have missed out on the ground floor of the Star Wars FPS movement by not checking out the 1996 PlayStation classic, Star Wars: Dark Forces. Fear not -- you won't have to go hunting through pawn shops to get your Kyle Katarn fix. The game recently showed up on the ESRB's list of adjudicated titles, slated to land on the PSOne Classics platform.
We've contacted LucasArts to find out a time frame for the game's arrival on the PSN. As for the new listings for XS Junior League Dodgeball and XS Airboat Racing, we ... man, we just don't know who we'd contact about those.

Sure, it's got the old name but Sony's "Motion Controller" CECH-ZCM1U is undoubtedly Sony's new PlayStation Move controller. There's not much to glean from the tests (yes, it passed) other than the specific mention of a Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR radio. The rest of the filing is under a 180 day confidentiality request good until September -- a bit earlier than Sony's reported "holiday" launch plans. Don't read too much into that FCC date though, Sony can always extend.

This probably isn't a response to the 3D onslaught or even "superbit" releases like the upcoming Avatar 2D disc, but just in case the standard 50GB Blu-ray discs were beginning to feel a bit -- how do you say... cramped? -- the Blu-ray Disc Association's rolling out a new BDXL format capable of holding up to 128GB (write-once) or 100GB (rewriteable). Before you get too excited, you should know that you'll need a new player to access these -- even a firmware update won't save the PS3 this time -- since they go up to three or four layers deep and will likely need a more powerful laser. While our home movies can be compressed just fine, corporations currently still using other mediums for archiving might appreciate the extra space, as well as the new IH-BD discs, designed with one 25GB read-only layer, and one 25GB rewritable layer on the same platter. If you're looking for a place to permanently back up that super high-res "amateur photography," take heart -- a consumer version is in the works, though it will first be aimed at markets where Blu-ray Disc recorders are popular, or available at all (read: maybe Japan, definitely not the US). No word when the new hardware will actually hit the market, but final specs are due "in the next few months."

Hori is a company that's no stranger to strapping LCDs to consoles and calling them portable, but for some reason we're quite smitten with its latest monitor docking station. The HP3-87 doesn't stray too far from the formula -- it adds an 11.6-inch screen to a wraparound structure for your PS3, with stereo speakers, two headphone jacks, and composite or component input options. With a resolution of 1,366 x 768, it's well suited to handling the 16:9 signal coming out of the do-everything console, although its 500:1 contrast ratio, 7ms response time, and 200 nits of brightness are perhaps a tiny step behind the times. On the other hand, it's compatible with the Japan-only Torne DTV adapter and it's officially licensed by Sony itself, so it can't be too bad, right? All you Tokyo-ites will have until May 27 to decide, when the HP3-87 goes on sale for ¥26,040 ($276). International release plans are not yet disclosed, but if you really need the portability, you could always grab a PS3 laptop from your local online auction house. Which option will be more useful (less useless?) we leave up to you to decide.
