Hideo Kojima may be hard at work on an all-new Metal Gear Solid game, according to his studio Kojima Productions.
Shacknews reports that MGS: Rising producer Shigenobu Matsuyama said of MGS: Rising at E3 last week:
"I've been asked a lot, 'Is this going to be a side-story or spin-off to the MGS series?', but what I'm positioning is that there will be a Hideo Kojima game that is MGS, but what we are planning as Kojima Productions is have this Raiden Rising as almost as a standard so that there's an MGS and the Rising going back-and-forth in the future."
The site then followed up with Konami, who told it in a statement:
"Hideo Kojima will continue working on Metal Gear Solid games."
Could the non-Rising MGS be the PS3 exclusive CVG has been told Kojima may reveal at Tokyo Games Show?
We'll have to wait until September to find out...

Remember how we said Gladiator Begins was coming to North America in March? Now we know Aksys got Acquire’s game. Gamefly leaked this pending announcement too, sorry Aksys.
In Japan, Gladiator Begins had a racy marketing campaign in Japan with a slave girl who visited various magazines. Color us curious about Aksys promotional plans and Anime Expo presentation.
Even more surprising is Blazing Souls: Accelate. Idea Factory ported this PlayStation 2 strategy RPG to PSP last year. Aksys apparently picked up the PSP version since it is also in Gamefly’s database.

It's early days yet, but NPD claims that revenue from US sales of 3D TVs and standalone 3D-capable Blu-ray players has exceeded $55 million in the first three months of availability. Mind you, this steady growth comes despite the absence of some major players. While that number might sound big, it's tiny in comparison to the total number of TVs sold each month in the US and, according to our friend Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis at NPD, sales are expected to remain small throughout 2010. Regarding those much maligned 3D glasses, only 10% of those surveyed by NPD cited "looking silly" as a main concern. Instead, the biggest concern was not having enough glasses on hand for everyone looking at the set. A concern driven by cost, undoubtedly, and a dearth of survey participants from New York's trendy Lower East Side.

Looks like the Blu-ray Disc Association has published the final specs for the monster BDXL disc, opening the way for manufacturers to start introducing the technology in their optical drives. Not too much here that we don't already know: aimed at institutions and folks who need to archive lots and lots of... stuff, BDXL discs are available in either triple layer 100GB (re-writable or write-once) or 128GB quad layer write-once flavors. Of course, with all these layers (or layuhs in Brooklyn) the laser in the Blu-ray drive you already own won't be able to do the trick, so start saving your change for a hardware upgrade once these things become commercially available.

Sony is reportedly on the verge of announcing a deal with US-only video on demand service Hulu, despite continued rumours of a deal with Microsoft.
According to a Bloomberg report, a deal could be announced as soon as next week, with a subscription-based service apparently being planned that would give access to current and past shows from U.S. TV network NBC, ABC and Fox.
Long-standing rumours of a similar deal for the Xbox 360, believed to involve a $9.95 a month subscription, were thought by many to be culminating in an announcement at this year's E3 expo, but this do not materialise.
Currently the web-based service is free to use, with revenues gained purely through advertising. Hulu is unavailable outside of the US and attempts to create a similar service in the UK have so far been frustrated by a lack of licensing deals.
A new version of the BBC iPlayer is due to arrive on the PlayStation 3 this year though, with website TechRadar apparently confirming iPlayer 3 would feature improved functionality and social networking features.
The current version of the iPlayer on the PlayStation 3 is the same used on Sony and Samsung televisions, as well as the Wii. The new version was launched late last month.

Music streaming service, Last.FM is only exclusive to Xbox 360 for one year, it's been revealed.
The news, revealed via an interview with Last.FM VP, Orlena Yeung in the latest Official Xbox Magazine, has sparked speculation that the service could soon make it over to PS3 once the November exclusivity date passes.
The Xbox 360 launch was a huge success for the service, seeing more than two million console users sign up in the first four months alone. Surely then, Last.FM has its eyes firmly on the other big current-gen powerhouse.
Regardless of which box it's on though, Yeung says new console-focussed features will be coming to service in the near future.
"There is a nice parallel between the community-driven experience at Last.FM and the gamer community on Xbox Live," she told OXM.
"I think we can create more experience where users are socialising their music taste across gaming and music. We will see..."
Earlier this morning it was revealed that movie streaming service Hulu - another Xbox 360 exclusive - could make its way to Sony's box.

Atlus, unfortunately, does not have a European branch. While some of their games are published by companies like Ghostlight, Rising Star, and Nintendo of Europe, many Atlus titles are left in North America. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and the PSP remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, for example, still haven’t been picked up.
The latter game was rated by the Classification Board rating in Australia. Additionally, we also discovered a rating for Hexyz Force in Australia with Atlus USA pegged as the publisher.
Since Atlus USA is, well, in the USA, they probably won’t distribute physical copies of Hexyz Force. There is hope for a PlayStation Network release, though. Since two games were rated I’d wager the chance of that happening is pretty good.

Though there are few things we love more than our annual excursion to E3, there are some inherent downsides to the trip which we could do without. Namely, the ever-present threat of apocalyptic earthquakes.
Next year, we might just follow the example of the quarter of a million people who PlayStation Blog claims stopped by Sony's virtual booth in PlayStation Home. Sure, our coverage might be a little one-sided given the absence of every other company, but seriously, guys, earthquakes are terrifying.

Hiromichi Tanaka has told Eurogamer that the Final Fantasy XIV Online beta test "will be starting soon".
He - the producer of the game, and second-in-command at Square Enix - said the MMO was in alpha but on course for a 2010 release in all territories.
"We will do some final adjustments from the beta test and then we will have a launch in 2010," he confirmed.
What's more, Tanaka's confident that will be on both formats - PC and PS3.
"Yes, the current plan is for a simultaneous launch, and we're trying hard to stick to that," he said.
However, Tanaka admitted that making an MMO for two platforms and "customising" the experience for both was "very challenging" and "taking some time".
Final Fantasy XI was released eight years ago in a genre yet to star World of Warcraft. Final Fantasy XIV Online won't have that luxury, but Tanaka isn't fazed.
"The reason why many MMOs failed after WOW launched was probably because they were trying to copy WOW," he explained. "For FFXIV we're not trying to copy World of Warcraft, we're trying to choose something different.
"Final Fantasy never had any influence from World of Warcraft," he added, "so we want to continue that and try to reach a different audience."

NIS America has announced that the first Atelier game created for PlayStation 3 - Atelier Rorona - will be released here in September.
That's a US date, but the region-free nature of the console means that shouldn't matter.
Atelier Rorona tells the story of a girl called Rorona. She works in an alchemy shop run by a lazy lady named Astrid. Rorona and Astrid are landed in the muck when a messenger from the ruling kingdom turns up and demands that all their assignments in the next three years must be met or the shop closed down.
A video shows pretty, minimally-animated cut-scenes as well as free-roaming exploration. Battle gameplay isn't shown, but various characters twirl and spin for the camera, presumably demonstrating their special powers.

Konami has joined the sizable list of companies that have licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming project.
The publisher has bought the rights to use the engine for Saw 2 – the sequel to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC survival horror title.
Saw 2 is in development at Washington-based developer Zombie Studios. The developer has now licensed Unreal Engine tech nine separate times. The original Saw game was indeed built using Unreal.
"Licensing Unreal Engine 3 was an easy decision for us," said Careen Yapp, vice president of acquisitions and franchise development at Konami.
"The engine's new and improved features, time-saving tools and exceptional support system make it the best choice for the 'Saw' property."

A new instalment on the Guitar Hero series based on the music of Queen is currently in development.
That's according to an article on website DN.se, as translated by our Swedish friends over at Eurogamer.se.
The article says the game will be released next year.
"We have invented a way to let the players participate in our concerts," May is quoted as saying. "I can't say anything more about it just yet. It's a secret."
Publisher Activision is saying nothing, but Guitar Hero Queen doesn't seem too far-fetched - after all, the band already has their own SingStar title.

Sony's new online subscription service PlayStation Plus won't support cross-game chat - for the time being.
PSN product manager James Thorpe clarified this on the European PlayStation blog.
He went on to explain that subscribers will receive "at least" four games a month for free: one PSN game, two Minis and one PSone oldie.
The selection will refresh every month and be available as long as you remain a subscriber. These games can be shared by accounts on the same console.
In addition, two dynamic themes, two premium avatars and various game add-ons will also be offered each month for free.
The discounts, Thorpe explained, will range between the 20 per cent and 50 per cent mark. And he said that two full games will be available to trial each month for one hour.
Sony's premium PSN service was unveiled at E3. Among the more controversial of the features are automated downloads, which switch the machine on to tackle boresome firmware waits. However, Thorpe noted that firmware will still need to be manually installed.
Subscriptions to PlayStation Plus cost €14.99 for 90 days' access or €49.99 for the year.

AME has already reduced its price point for Sony’s PlayStation Move, despite the device not being due until September.
Originally giving a price tag of £39.99, the UK retailer has now reduced the Move to £34.99, according to VG247.
The new Move price now undercuts that of Amazon (£37.91) and Play.com (£39.99) – also reduced since their initial listings.
GAME also lowered the price for the Navigation Controller from £29.99 to £24.99.
The PlayStation Move is due for release on September 15th. Sony has yet to announce UK pricing.

Tomonobu Itagaki has revealed that his new third-person action game, Devil's Third, will be playable in 3D on PS3.
We reported earlier this week that Devil's Third will be released by THQ on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.
Little is known about the game's content - but Itagaki-san told VG247 that the title will be a "shooter-action game".
He added: "The PlayStation 3 version is going to support 3D visuals. I myself have a 3D TV in my living room, so there's no impossibility that it's in my house. But to be honest with you, we have to first spec out the power and strength of PS3, and after we do that, we can start talking about it, so I can't promise anything at this point."
Itagaki said he wasn't "abandoning the style of Ninja Gaiden or Dead or Alive" in the game - and that he was "trying to incorporate the know-how that I've established" into Devil's Third.
The title has been created by ex-Tecmo exec Itagaki's new studio, Valhalla.
Itagaki revealed in April that he needed "cigarettes, booze and gambling" to help get him through the development of a game.
Itagaki, who found critical acclaim with the Ninja Gaiden series, finally settled with former publisher Tecmo Koei in February after a long legal battle.
The developer sued his former employees for "unpaid completion bonuses" related to Dead or Alive 4.

Harmonix’s motion-sensitive music title Dance Central could be heading to the PS3.
Many believed the game to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 but the developer’s co-founder Alex Rigopulos claims it is possible to bring the game to PlayStation Move, according to Kotaku.
Rigopulos also said there was no chance of Dance Central being released for Wii, claiming the console does not collect enough motion tracking data that would translate into the game.
Dance Central was unveiled during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, and has been widely hailed as the most promising and appealing Kinect title.
It will be released alongside the new motion controller this November as one of 15 launch titles.

Activision chief operating officer Thomas Tippl has said he is "concerned" about the high price of the new Kinect and Move motion control systems.
"I think as a publisher, you have to be concerned about how the price drives a lot of the outcome of how big of an install base there's going to be [for hardware]," he told website Gamasutra.
"The bigger the install base, the more likely that you can make sense out of your investment. So, the lower the price, the better. In this economic environment, it's probably more important than ever," he added.
Although no official price for Kinect has been announced, it now seems increasingly likely that it will cost $150 in the US. The basic Move controller is priced at $50 but also requires a PlayStation Eye camera and Navigation Controller for full functionality - resulting in a total cost of around $120.
"A lot of that will depend on the price point they choose," Tippl said in reference to the potential success of the controllers.
"We have a few franchises where we think this could be an interesting value to improve the experience for the player. Tony Hawk is an example. We have our Rapala Fishing franchise. But it's not going to be something that will be in every game, because I don't think it's one size fits all. It's not going to enhance the experience for every game," he added.
Activision has historically been very wary of supporting first party motion controllers, with almost no major titles aimed at the market-leading Wii.
Instead the publisher has concentrated on creating its own bespoke, and often expensive, controllers for games such as Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Tony Hawk: Ride.
Having taken the role of COO in March, Tippl has been particularly prominent in the wake of E3, yesterday admitting that Activision's reputation with core gamers had become tarnished and that greater efforts would be made to engage with such fans.
