In an interview with PSNStores, 24 Caret Games' Matt Gilgenbach offered an update on the development of the time-reversing rhythm shmup ... thing, Retro/Grade. Most obviously, the PSN release is getting a nice visual boost over what has been shown: "We've redone pretty much all the graphics to make the game look really snazzy on your HDTVs," Gilgenbach said, "especially because Retro/Grade runs at Full HD (1080p) at 60 fps with anti-aliasing." Power-ups (and power-downs) have also been added, as have "some epic reverse boss fights" that the team isn't talking about yet.
If you want to try out the odd guitar-controlled PSN game (and there will be a demo!) you'll have to jump forward in time to next year: "I am confident we will release it sometime in 2011," Gilgenbach said, "but I can't really narrow it down too much further."

The developer behind the Sony-exclusive series Warhawk will reveal its next game "soon".
US studio Lightbox has been working on its next title "for a while", Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Joystiq.
"The team has been working on something new for a while," he said, "and I wouldn’t be surprised if are able to soon talk about it. But not at this time." Bah.
Last year Lightbox, formed in 2009 by former Incognito staffers, signed a multi-year, multi-game deal with Sony Computer Entertainment America to develop for PlayStation platforms.
What could Lightbox's next game be? In April last year Sony trademarked the name "Starhawk", which suggests the quick-paced third-person multiplayer shooter series is heading into space.
Warhawk has been well supported by fans and Sony alike, and received numerous expansion packs since its August 2007 release, so another entry in the series would come as no surprise.

Ed Boon's NetherRealm Studios has been working on putting 3D into the next Mortal Kombat for "a few months now".
"We've been working on stereoscopic 3D, getting the game to work with the layers that makes 3D look so great, and so far the video that we've gotten is really impressive," Boon, one of the co-creators of the fighting game series, told Eurogamer TV in an interview published today.
But what difference does it make in a 2D fighting game, we asked?
"It's a lot more immersive," said Boon. "You really feel like you're inside the fight more. With our fighting we have a lot more of a 2D fighting field, but the 3D visuals really complements that a lot."
The 3D side of the game will obviously be limited to PlayStation 3 for now, but the game is also due out on Xbox 360 in 2011.
It marks a return to the series' 2D roots, although there are various new features to set it apart from the original games of the mid-nineties, including a new Super meter and X-ray attack which shows you in delightful detail which bones are breaking inside your enemy when you thump them.
Plus of course there are all the series' trademark fatalities.

Sony is "keen to look into" converting ICO and Shadow of the Colossus to HD for PlayStation 3, Shuhei Yoshida has said.
"As soon as we released God of War Collection, a lot of people were giving us suggestions, and ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, these are at the top of the list," the Sony Worldwide Studios boss told Joystiq.
"We are very aware, and we want to see and play in HD in the better frame-rate as well," he said, joking about Shadow's famously dodgy performance on PS2.
Sony's God of War Collection brought together the first two GOW titles on a single Blu-ray disc for PS3, converting them into 720p and winning rave reviews in the process.
Sony did announce a new HD collection at E3, but it wasn't ICO and Shadow - it was The Sly Collection, bringing Sucker Punch's trio of excellent Sly Cooper platform games together for PS3.
But Yoshida seems to agree that ICO and Shadow are the obvious next priorities.
"That's something we are very keen to look into," he agreed, "because we believe in this conversion effort."
We do too - so much so that we emulated both games in HD and ran performance analysis to see how they may turn out.

PlayStation Home has been "a huge success" for Sony despite scepticism among press and consumers, the service's director Jack Buser has said.
"The proof is in the pudding," he told Gamasutra.
"With numbers like we have, it goes without saying that Home has been a huge success for our company, something that we have been very proud of."
Those numbers apparently include 14 million logins, although Buser hasn't revealed how many people play regularly - just that for those who do, 70-minute sessions are average and 85 per cent of them have played before.
It may be a huge success but there's no word on overall profitability either.
"We haven't talked too much about the platform itself, but what we have said is that every mature virtual item we have ever created has been profitable," Buser explained.
"We've released over 5000 virtual items on the platform, and we know that once those items reach maturity, they are profitable. So you see us creating a tremendous amount of virtual items, because it is such a high margin business for us to be in."
Buser also said that virtual items "is a very good business model for PlayStation" and "one of the highest-margin businesses in the games industry" - something the likes of Zynga would no doubt agree with.
As such Buser's focus has been on providing better value in Home's interactions with other games, rather than just drawing Nathan Drake on a hat and charging 10 quid for it every few weeks.
"It's this whole idea of expanding the world of your favourite games inside home," he said. "That's another big pillar of our strategy moving forward."

Sony's PlayStation 3 enjoyed its tenth month of consecutive growth in May, according to US data from Sony.
Hardware sales were up 18 per cent compared to last May and revenues up 58 per cent, with Patrick Seybold, corporate communications boss, stating that inventory is beginning to improve after a number of months with supply issues.
"We are now beginning to experience greater availability of product and are looking forward to this fall’s most anticipated launch, PlayStation Move," he said in a statement.
Although sales continue to improve for Sony, overall revenues for all three home consoles were down 20 per cent in the US during May compared to last year due to lower prices on hardware.

The Lavalit Team have released a new version of Openbor for Consoles,Wii, PSP, Dreamcast, Dingoo, Gp2x and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of Beats Of Rage originally created by the wonderful
folks over at http://www.senileteam.com
History
----------------------
As fans of the 'Streets of Rage' series that originally appeared on the SEGA
megadrive/genesis, we always wanted to see streets of rage 4. But the waiting
proved futile, and streets of rage 4 never came. That's why we tried to correct
this mistake and fill the void by making the ultimate tribute to Streets of Rage:
Beats of Rage!!
Development
----------------------
Beats of Rage was created by Senile Team. However, the character sprites and
some parts of the backgrounds are taken from 'the King of Fighters' games by
SNK Playmore. Therefore special thanks go out to SNK Playmore and SEGA who
unknowingly helped in creating this game.
Beats of Rage and OpenBOR are a free, fully functional game, which includes
music, and features six playable levels plus a bonus level. It is available
for many systems

Sony may have an impressive lineup of 3D HDTVs, but only the LX900 series comes with the requisite glasses for out-of-the-box 3D enjoyment. Thankfully, the company sells active shutter specs separately, and they're now on sale -- you'll find pairs shipping now for $150 a pop at the Sony Store and several small e-tailers via Amazon. Keep in mind you'll still need an IR emitter to sync those shades -- also available, for a $50 extra charge -- and likely a 3D Blu-ray player (or a PlayStation 3) if you want to have anything to watch. Isn't the future grand?

Quantic Dream’s David Cage has admitted that he’s “disappointed” that his studio “could not finish the story of Heavy Rain the way it intended” after Sony’s insistence on implementing Move controller support saw post-release DLC for the title put on hold.
A special edition version of the game that has been re-worked for Sony’s new technology is expected to be released alongside or shortly after Move’s launch in September.
“Chronicles are on hold as all the team is focused on Heavy Rain Move,” Cage told NowGamer. “We proposed three episodes about one hour long, focused on the background of the main characters. I thought fans would really enjoy these episodes because they explained many aspects of Heavy Rain and why characters are who they are.
“Unfortunately, Sony preferred to ask us to focus on Move to support the device rather than on creating new content.
“On our side, we did not want to spend more time on Heavy Rain, which would have meant delaying new projects. This is a decision I can understand, and I am certainly happy we had the opportunity to play with this device and to support it.”

Sony has decided to discontinue online support for 2007 PlayStation 3 title Eye of Judgement.
The PlayStation Eye/trading card hybrid will see its last online game on 30th September this year.
Offline play will, of course, remain available.
"We at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe sincerely thank you for your continued support of The Eye of Judgement," said a moderator on the official European PlayStation forums.
"The online battle service for this product will terminate on 30 September 2010. Offline play will remain available even after the conclusion of online service."
Eye of Judgement was released in Europe in October 2007, a year after the release of the PS3 itself.
Using the PlayStation Eye, trading cards are scanned into the game and used to spawn units of battle.

Japanese publisher Square Enix has announced a brand new action title for the PSP called Lord of Arcana.
The title sees players being “plunged into the dark depths of the underworld to fight vast and powerful creatures of legend in their quest to obtain the power of Arcana”. Combat is said to be simple with a huge variety of enemy types.
Multiplayer is very much the focus with up to four gamers teaming up via an ad-hoc connection to tackle the title’s demons. Post-release DLC ha also been confirmed.
Square Enix’s VP of brands for the PAL region Larry Sparks stated: “With incredible visuals and non-stop action, mixed with great multiplayer co-op and creatures designed by a variety of world-famous illustrators, Lord of Arcana is not to be missed when it comes to the PSP system.”
A release date for the game has yet to be confirmed, though it has been confirmed for a European/PAL release.

Sony has insisted that wearing 3D glasses ain't no thing, and wants Nintendo to stop banging on about not having to wear them while playing the 3DS.
"If you really want a big theatre experience, of course you have to wear glasses," president of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida told IGN.
"With the latest technology, the glasses are light and you kind of forget you're wearing them after a while."
At E3 2010 last month Sony went big on 3D, even giving out glasses to attendees at its press conference.
Nintendo also pushed 3D with its nifty 3DS, but was keen to point out that the handheld's 3D visuals require nothing but gamers' eyes to work.
Nintendo's message appears to have hit a nerve.
"I have hope that they have a broader perspective with 3D," Yoshida said.
"When you listen to what they are saying about the effect of 3D perspective to the games, they are saying the same message we are, but they don't have to bash some small part of what the other company is doing.
"I think as an industry we should preach this new perspective, from a very large cinema screen to a small portable, because that helps advancing the games and the game industry," he said. "We'd like to work together to promote 3D."

This is legit… But like Wololo says at the source, it’s useless for most people. It’s an in-game exploit that’s available on PSN, so should that name be made public, it’ll be pulled and patched with the quickness. So really, it’s simple: don’t upgrade to 6.30 if you’re currently at 6.20. But you knew that. Props to mamosuke for this exploit.

News via http://www.psp-hacks.com/2010/06/30/...firmware-6-30/
Grab your PSP, dosey dough, round and round and round we go… You’re no doubt familiar with this scenario — you’ve witnessed it countless times… Sony pushes a firmware update, and a day or two later, it’s dumped & decrypted. This time ’round it only took like 24 hours. So kudos to you hrimfaxi — you’re the shit!
The technical deets:
In 6.30 firmware Sony has add two new types of PRX to protect their executable. But we only spend one day to crack that. Currently there is only psp phat key, but it should be enough though.
Key detail:
/* 6.30 phat kernel s_code 0x43 type 3 */
u8 key_4c9484f0[16] = {
0x36, 0xB0, 0xDC, 0xFC, 0x59, 0x2A, 0x95, 0x1D,
0x80, 0x2D, 0x80, 0x3F, 0xCD, 0x30, 0xA0, 0x1B,
};
/* 6.30 phat kernel-2, s_code 0x5b type 3 */
u8 key_457b80f0[16] = {
0xd4, 0x35, 0x18, 0x02, 0x29, 0x68, 0xfb, 0xa0,
0x6a, 0xa9, 0xa5, 0xed, 0x78, 0xfd, 0x2e, 0x9d
};
/* used by vshmain.prx, s_code 0x5a, type 3 */
u8 key_380280f0[16] = {
0x97, 0x09, 0x12, 0xD3, 0xDB, 0x02, 0xBD, 0xD8,
0xE7, 0x74, 0x51, 0xFE, 0xF0, 0xEA, 0x6C, 0x5C,
};
DecryptPRX2 cannot handle these new "type 3" prx, so I imported PSPCipher kprx_decrypt function to make this psardumper to work.
After decrypting, a new game key (0xd91680f0) is found in mesg_led_01.prx. It is likely we kicked sony's ass again.
Credit: tpu dumped the IPL, and I found out what happened to the IPL decryptor.
Note: this source has been already covered by GPLv3 becuase of the usage of PSPCipher source.

Sony is bringing their transforming hero RPG series to the small screen. In other words, White Knight Chronicles is coming to PSP.
Famitsu lists White Knight Chronicles – New Project – in their table of contents as a PSP game. Scans or, if you like, photos have not surfaced yet, but we’re on the look out for them.
