Tales of Phantasia has been remade and ported so many times. What makes Cross Edition, a bonus game in Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon Cross any different?
Find out by downloading a demo of it from PlayStation Network this Thursday. Director Tomomi Masubuchi announced the demo’s date over Twitter.
Tales of Phantasia Cross is one part of this PSP double hitter. A full remake of Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon is the highlight of the package. Both games get a UMD release on August 5.

Last week, we mentioned Ape Escape 4 was one of two Ape Escape games in development. And when its ready Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will publish it.
A release date for Europe has not been announced, but a localized version of the monkey catching game is planned. That’s good to hear considering how other Ape Escape games like Piposaru 2001 and Ape Escape: Saru Saru Master Moves were skipped in the West.

PlayStation Home is proving itself as a viable revenue stream, with virtual items sold in Sony's online environment now making the platform "quite profitable," according to director Jack Buser.
While some quarters of the industry remained aloof when the platform was first launched, Buser believes the numbers now speak for themselves.
"Home is new," he told Gamasutra. "We're doing a lot of really new stuff that I think the industry is still wrapping its head around - we're seeing a lot of innovation in the space, and some of us have hit success.
"And I think it takes some time as the industry as a whole, whether that be consumers or whether that be the media, to start to shift their focus to these new types of platforms and see how people are actually spending their time with the console and with gaming in general. I think we are part of that evolution, part of that conversation.
"With numbers like we have, it goes without saying that Home has been a huge success for our company, something that we have been very proud of."
Specifically, he revealed that over 5000 virtual items have been released into Home, which he maintains become profitable as they reach maturity.
"You see us creating a tremendous amount of virtual items, because it is such a high margin business for us to be in," he explained.
"In fact, I would say that it is a very good business model for PlayStation, and quite profitable, I might add - I like to say it's one of the highest-margin businesses in the games industry."

Apple Prophet writes
"Just a few short weeks after BitBlot released the source to Aquaria as part of the Humble Indie Bundle, Andrew Church hacked up an ambitious homebrew port of the game to the PSP. He wrote a detailed synopsis of the technical challenges in an article on the Wolfire Blog, and of course, contributed all of the patches back to the project so anyone with a homebrew-equipped PSP can try it out. Check out the mercurial repository for the source."

Sinister Twisted Metal clown man, Sweet Tooth, is on his way to an all-round more playful game in ModNation Racers.
Sony will launch an official model for Sweet Tooth and his gun-equipped truck into the cartoony kart racer this week for the pocket-money price of $1.99 - in the US at least (as the US PS Blog confirms, while the EU blog is yet to awaken from its weekend slumber). See screenshots of him on this page.
Sweet Tooth will, of course, turn up again next year in his more brutal form when the new Twisted Metal game hits PS3. We played it at E3 and you can read about the carnage we witnessed right here.

Three years after it debuted on PS3, Sony has confirmed that it is to pull the plug on the online services connected to card battling title The Eye of Judgement.
The game works by using the PSEye to scan real-life cards that are placed on a real deck. These are then embellished with animations on-screen.
Speaking on the official EU forums, community team moderator LordRoss stated: “We at SCEE sincerely thank you for your continued support of The Eye of Judgement. The online battle service for this product will terminate on September 30th 2010. Offline play will remain available even after the conclusion of online service.
“We hope you will continue to enjoy both The Eye of Judgement., and the latest addition to the series, The Eye of Judgement: Legends, available exclusively for the PSP.”
Unsurprisingly many existing players have voiced their dissatisfaction at the move, particularly those who had invested extra cash on card packs.

The Lavalit Team have released a new version of Openbor for Consoles,Wii, PSP, Dreamcast, Dingoo, Gp2x and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of Beats Of Rage originally created by the wonderful
folks over at http://www.senileteam.com
History
----------------------
As fans of the 'Streets of Rage' series that originally appeared on the SEGA
megadrive/genesis, we always wanted to see streets of rage 4. But the waiting
proved futile, and streets of rage 4 never came. That's why we tried to correct
this mistake and fill the void by making the ultimate tribute to Streets of Rage:
Beats of Rage!!
Development
----------------------
Beats of Rage was created by Senile Team. However, the character sprites and
some parts of the backgrounds are taken from 'the King of Fighters' games by
SNK Playmore. Therefore special thanks go out to SNK Playmore and SEGA who
unknowingly helped in creating this game.
Beats of Rage and OpenBOR are a free, fully functional game, which includes
music, and features six playable levels plus a bonus level. It is available
for many systems

With the PS3's plethora of USB ports scattered across the front, you'd think it'd be a no-brainer that all shooters on the console would support keyboard and mouse controls to make the FPS purists happy. Sadly that's not nearly the case, so it's up to companies like Penguin United (creators of a fine array of silly Wii peripherals) to fill the void. The Eagle Eye is its attempt, a surprisingly sizable box with an unfortunately short 2-foot USB cable and inputs for mouse and keyboard. Using buttons on that box you assign controller inputs to keys and away you go, hunting the Helgath's worst in WASD. The cost is a bit steep at $60 when it ships later this month, but nobody said having a (possibly imaginary) unfair advantage over the competition would be cheap.

Nearly 70 per cent of Japanese consumers have no plans to buy a 3D telly, a survey says.
Of those, almost 70 per cent cited the hassle of wearing special glasses, 57 per cent said prices were too high and close to 40 per cent said there was not enough 3D content.
Kakaku.com (reported by Reuters), polled 8957 individuals to get their thoughts on 3D.
Only 31.2 per cent were considering or wanted to purchase a 3D telly.
The results will make for difficult reading for Sony, which is pushing 3D hard.
But the PlayStation 3 manufacturer will take solace in the fact that nearly a third of the Japanese public are interested in buying a 3D TV.
Still, the sticking point for many remains having to wear glasses while watching films and playing games in 3D.
Yesterday Sony's Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida defended the tech, saying: "With the latest technology, the glasses are light and you kind of forget you're wearing them after a while."

David Cage has told Eurogamer that Quantic Dream has begun work on the next generation of "technology".
The studio sacrificed Heavy Rain's Chronicles DLC in order to retrofit Move controls to the emotional thriller. But that hasn't prevented work on "risky" and "pioneering" future projects steaming ahead.
"Certainly not!" exclaimed Cage. "Most of the team currently works on the next generation of technology and future concepts. We plan to significantly improve the technology compared to Heavy Rain, continue to take risks and explore new grounds.
"Many people wondered why we were not 'milking the cow' after the success of Heavy Rain - why we were not creating a sequel for next Christmas. It may sound weird from the outside, but this is really not how I see my company. We genuinely try to be pioneers for this medium and discover new possibilities, which means taking more risks and not always giving people what they expect.
"It also means having creative freedom and going every day to the office with a big smile thinking you are really lucky to do what you do, and being proud of your games," he said.
Cage told Eurogamer yesterday he wasn't overjoyed at ditching the Chronicles add-ons. But creatively he has ants in his pants and the prospect of lingering on Heavy Rain any longer was unappealing and dejecting.
"I need the challenge, I need the thrill of a new idea, I need to fight to convince my team, feel the danger, feel the fear, feel the excitement of working on something you strongly believe in," he surged.
"I am probably stupid to think that way as it certainly makes my life more difficult, but I am still naïve enough to let my passion lead my choices."
At the start of June, reports leaked that claimed Cage was working on a science fiction thriller called Horizon. He isn't, but he told us he liked the concept.
"I don't know where this information comes from but there is no project called Horizon featuring a couple in a science-fiction world currently in development at Quantic Dream," confirmed Cage. "Though if the script is available it sounds like a good idea."
"As you know, I am not particularly secret about Quantic's projects. We will officially announce them as soon as we are ready."
Them?
Cage was at E3 last month to unveil Move controls for Heavy Rain. These will be part of a re-issue of Heavy Rain released later this year. A patch will be offered to existing owners to add Move support to their game.
The rest of E3 failed to excite Cage, whose crusade to attract a mature audience to videogames appears to be a lonely one.
"This year E3 was mainly for hardware, for Move, Kinect and 3DS. I saw many great games that I will buy for my son, few I will buy for myself," he told us.
"I continue to hope that our industry will one day seriously consider making games for an adult audience. Unfortunately, E3 showed little progress in this direction."

Square Enix, like many publishers, outsource development to other companies.
Cavia (Drakengard and BulletWitch) made Nier. Feelplus (N3 II: Ninety-Nine Nights and Lost Odyssey) are working on Mindjack. Even The 3rd Birthday has outside help from Hexadrive, the studio behind Rez HD.
Lord of Arcana, though, is being made inside Square Enix. “It’s an in-house dev’d game,” Rob Rutter, Brand Manager, said in the comments section of the PlayStation Blog.

While Eye of Judgment never became a runaway hit for Sony, the PlayStation Eye-enabled, augmented reality card game has a small, but dedicated fan base. Unfortunately for them, the online community will be discontinued on September 30, according to a notice on the European PlayStation forums. "Offline play will remain available even after the conclusion of online service," the announcement adds, meaning EoJ fans will have to meet in person to continue competitively playing.
While it's not uncommon for online games to be discontinued, it does leave fans with few options. Some EoJ players are planning to move on to the PSP version, Legends (which doesn't require physical cards). Others, however, feel betrayed by Sony. "I am afraid that my long lasting relationship with SCEA/E/J products end 9/30," one fan commented on the forums.

Demo-demo-demo! That's what we imagine you'll be screaming to yourself as you download the Patapon 3 demo from PSN this upcoming Tuesday. To make things even better, the PlayStation Blog informs us that it's a multiplayer demo -- a sampling of the internet-based functionality that will be included in the franchise's third installment.
Now, before you ask, the demo isn't exclusive to PlayStation Plus subscribers, so one and all looking for their taste can get it. Clear up some space on your Memory Stick -- you're going to want to check this out on Tuesday, July 6.
