Cross-platform film streaming service Netflix launched in the UK and Ireland back in January, aiming to build on its then 25 million users across the Americas and the Caribbean.
Some considered the launch daft, what with the region already having access to LoveFilm, Sky Go et al, but Netflix has reached the one million subscriber milestone in just seven months.
The figure makes the UK and Ireland Netflix's fastest-growing territory, with the region hitting 1m users quicker than any other.
It's perhaps unsurprising, as consumers continue to make the switch to digital streaming ahead of physical media, viewing media on mobile phones, tablets, and laptops for the on-the-go lifestyle.
Evidence of this was demonstrated in March, with more films now streamed than watched on vide, DVD and Blu-ray.

Jpcsp SVN r2687 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r2687
Fixed implementation of stencil test in software renderer and shader: the logic
to compare against the reference stencil value is reverse.
Tested on a real PSP using 3DStudio.

Despite us being super clear about what VHBL is and what it is not, I constantly get questions about it, in particular about the upcoming port that we plan to release for Vita’s firmware 1.80.
Those of you who have been following this website for several months will probably think that I repeat the same things over and over again, but we get new people on a regular basis… and if your friends ask you about VHBL, you can send them to this post. Also, I’ll summarize here the lists of compatible/incompatible homebrews that we have tested so far (many thanks to our beta tester).
1. What is VHBL?
VHBL, a.k.a. Vita Half Byte Loader, is a homebrew loader for the Playstation Vita. It runs through a hack in some specific PSP game (yet to be announced) in the Vita’s PSP emulator. More specifically, it allows you to run PSP homebrews on the PS Vita, including a range of popular emulators.
2. This is great. Where do I get this?
Because the whole thing relies on an exploit in a specific PSP Game, we will announce the exploit through one of our Ninja Releases. Basically, we progressively announce the name of the game to the people we trust (members of our forum on /talk) in order to minimize the risk of a leak. We do this because in the past, Sony has been extremely fast to remove the exploited games from their store, preventing people from “buying” the entry point to running VHBL.
3. So, unless I refresh your website’s homepage every 5 minutes, I won’t Get it in time?
No, members of our forums will all have a chance at getting the release a few days in advance. It’s still time for you to join.
4. Why don’t you find an exploit in a UMD rather than a PSN game, that would be much more convenient for me…
UMDs don’t run on the PS Vita
5. Then why not a PS Vita cartridge?
We don’t have the knowledge to exploit PS Vita games.
6. Will this allow me to run PSP or PS Vita isos?
Short answer, no.
Long answer: This will definitely not let you play PS Vita games for free. As far as PSP isos are concerned, the tools we distribute here will not enable iso loading directly, and as far as I know no tool has ever been made available to run pirated games on VHBL. That being said, the game exploit we rely on could be leveraged in the future to access more functions in the PSP emulator.
7. I read on [insert here the name of any gaming website] that piracy kills a console. Aren’t you guys ashamed of ruining the PS Vita?
Read this whole article and make your judgement again. People who pretend that VHBL will bring piracy to the Vita, and even worse, ruin the console for everyone, have actually no clue what VHBL does and what its limitations are. VHBL has been around for 3 years now, and was never the vector of PSP or Vita piracy.
8. Painful release process, and no iso support, so what’s the point?
If you’re asking this question, you are probably not the targeted audience for VHBL. Our release is for people who want to enjoy old school games and emulators on the best portable device out there.
9. The emulator for [insert here the name of your favorite console] is super slow on the PSP. But because this runs on the vita, it will run better, right?
No. VHBL runs inside the PSP emulator, and has the same limitation as a PSP
10. The PSP did not have an emulator for PS2 or Dreamcast, does this bring more chances at seeing such emulators on the Vita?
No. read the paragraph above

I haven’t tested it yet (or even tried to compile it), but I’m posting this because I believe this could lead to a bunch of good things. Naehrwert just twitted that he is able to decrypt the content of the PS3 Hard Drive, and posted basically all the required code to do it.
The code, at a quick glance, requires you to have access to your eid root key (this should not be too difficult given that there are lots of tools to do it, such as eeid_rkdumper), and a list of sectors (of your hard drive, I assume), which might be retrievable with standard tools?
As usual, I’m sure that noob friendly tools will come up soon enough, if that turns out to be as interesting as I think it is.

August 19th, 2012, 22:33 Posted By: wraggster
I’m the first one to complain about how Sony is not supporting the Vita, but yesterday’s gamescom highly contributed to change my opinion on the subject. Yesterday I realized that Sony is ready to support its new baby aggressively.
I was going to try and blog about every possible game that has been announced or promoted during gamescom for the Vita and the PS3, but I had to give up: there’s just to many of them for me to even view all the trailers and sort the bad from the good. But the great news is, I’ve seen more good than bad.
If you “read between the lines”, The gamescom also revealed how Sony plans to support its gaming ecosystem in the months to come, and this is what I want to discuss here. Call it a wrap-up of Sony’s gamescom, call it an uneducated opinion, call it whatever you want… the thing is, I think there are a few “global points” that have shown that Sony is pushing full steam on the Vita, and to some extent, on the PS3.
Exclusive AAA titles, but also indIE games
The gamescom is revealing a bunch of new AAA titles: Tearaway, Killzone Mercenary, Assassin’s Creed 3 Liberation, etc, etc… What’s interesting here is that these are exclusive to the Vita. I’ll pass on the gimmicks of “full use of the vita’s controls”, as I think few games actually really “need” to use the vita’s touch screen. Tearaway sounds like a good example of really taking advantage of that technology (in particular the rear touch pad), but for other, more “action” oriented games, it sounds more like an excuse. But that doesn’t really matter.
The point is, the vita is finally backed up by a decent amount of big studios. It does not stop here, as the Vita is also seeing a growing number of interesting titles, close to what indie studios would come up with: Gravity Rush and Sound Shapes come to mind… Established franchises as well as original concepts are coming to the Vita, and this is good.
Meaningful Firmware updates?
I am impressed by the upcoming 1.80 update. I think it has a lot of cool features. The main one will of course be PS1 support, which might get some of us to definitely get rid of their PSP in favor of a new Vita… hey, we can dream, maybe Sony’s upcoming updates will all be rich in features like firmware 1.80. Am I stretching it too far, or does it sound like a reasonable expectation?
Full integration with the PS3
I think the symbiosis between the Vita and the PS3 is the huge point of the gamescom. One of my major concerns with the PSP was that it completely lacked any form of integration with the PS3. Sony was basically failing at creating an ecosystem with its own devices. I was genuinely concerned that the Vita would follow the same path, but clearly Sony have plans here:
The first thing that comes to mind is Cross Buy, a new purchase program that Sony will start soon. The concept is simple: for some selected titles, if you buy the PS Vita version, you get the PS3 version for free, and vice versa. This was already the case for a few games, but this is now coming to major upcoming titles such as Playstation All stars.
In line with this, the upcoming firmware 1.80 for the PS Vita promises that you’ll be able to use the PS Vita as a controller for the games that support it. A way to beat Microsoft’s Surface and Nintendo’s Wii U controller? Sony gives you the controller of next generation’s consoles, except it’s now. If enough games support this, this could be pretty big.
Additionally, support of Playstation+ for Vita users has been announced too, and the increase of Cloud storage for your savegames is another hint: Sony is trying to get you to enjoy a full “100% Sony” experience. It is obvious that they are pushing for an increase of their playstation+ users (a subscribed user is always the best customer a company can have. See amazon pushing for their Prime subscriptions, Hulu pushing for Hulu plus, etc…), but they are also killing two birds with one stone by giving Playstation+ subscribers a new reason to buy a Vita.
Cross play compatibility might also become big. I mentioned the Cross Buy feature, but games such as Assassin’s Creed 3 (and the Vita counterpart Liberation) promise some “interaction” (I am still confused as to what that exactly means) between 2 games, one on the Vita, the other one on the PS3.
Overall, Sony is giving PS3 owners more and more reasons to buy a Vita, something that I think they had failed to do with the PSP.
Conclusion
With gamescom, it seems to me that Sony is trying very hard to make the Vita appealing to a large audience. Casual gamers, Hardcore gamers, and loyal customers who also own a PS3 and/or a playstation plus account. This is awkward as I wrote another article recently (not published yet) about how Sony lost the war with portable gaming against smartphones and tablets…and today I am not entirely convinced of that anymore.
Do you guys think the Vita has a bright future?

Hello everyone! For this great annual compo, my friend frankdrey and I have come together to form team... frankdrey and 10$man! After a month (Actually, I think 3 weeks) of work, we are proud to present to you our entry, Runaway Car for the PSP!
Runaway Car!
Info
In this 3d game, you will take on the role of a car thief and race down a infinite street well evading trash cans, dumpsters and road blocks. But that's not it! It gets faster every time your score reaches the next 1000, up until 7000! How long can you survive??
Now, that's an okay concept in itself, but frankdrey and I did not stop there. We realize that this idea could get boring fast so we also present you with a car garage! When you're on the road, you can pick up some coins as you go. Then, when you have enough coins, you can go to the car garage and steal a cooler car!
I believe this project is original and this is the first contest we have entered this project in.
Features
Cool 3d Graphics!
3 Cars to unlock!
3 Objects to Avoid!
7 Different Speeds to race through! Can you make it to the 7th level??
A great song custom made by Scott Pereksta!
REAL Saving and Loading using the PSP's Save and Load feature!
This means that you can check your highscore, how many cars you've unlocked and how many points you have WITHOUT even loading the game!
Screenshots
Now, It's no lie, I sure have done alot of talking!
Don't worry though, I got some nice screenshots to back me up!
You'll have to download the game to hear the amazing music though!
The NeoFlash Loading/Splash screen
Right Before I press play to start the game
I just started. You can see me about to collect these coins along the side of the street.
I made it to the first speed up
Second Speed up!
Of course, as I said, there are 3 other cars to use, besides this one!
I'l upload some pictures of them when I unlock them (I deleted my save so that I could start the game again with all the new great updates we added)
How to play
If you're reading this, I guess that means my advertising was successful
Controls:
At the Menu:
Cross is select
Circle is back
Left and Right on the d-pad will control the selection
In game:
Press left and right to move your car!
Start will pause the game and present you with options
Things to avoid:
Any object coming down the street.
Any object, except for the golden coins!
Collect this for points!
Don't ride up onto the sidewalk too much!
This will take away a very small amount of damage. But, in a near death situation, that little bit could be the difference between life and crash!
If you hit the building (You'll hear a screech) then you will steadily have health deduced!
Download!
After reading all this, you're probably thinking, "how the deuce can I get this game??? "
Well, fear not! We have an active google code page where you can get the latest and greatest update for this game!
The google code page is here:
http://code.google.com/p/runawaycar-psp
The download page is here:
http://code.google.com/p/runawaycar-psp/downloads/list
In the event that a mixup occurs with judging, Version 1.0 was the release at the time of this competition (Not to be confused with 0.1).
A word from 10$man
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to throw in my thoughts on this competition.
So, last year was my first year entering! You may remember my entry. It was called Spacial Warfare. The game was a relatively weak entry and I walked away knowing alot more then when I came here!
Some things I learned where, Neoflash is a great place! Here you can come and learn to develop for nearly every single commercial system! Last year I got a Gameboy flash cart and I now know a fair amount about the system and have made a few games of my own!
It's really a great place. There's a wonderful variety of people here. As I looked through our (Frank's and mine) competition, I noticed that there were games for lots of systems!
I saw N64 entries, GBA entries, SNES entries and even an Atari Entry!
That's amazing! I didn't know there was anyone still developing for half those systems!
I personally just hope that Dr Neo can work with us and help keep this scene alive as long as possible!
Cheers to Dr Neo and all other programmers entering this competition!

PlayStation Move-based sports minigame collection Sports Champions 2 is set to launch October 30, Sony revealed in a recent blog post. As the follow-up to the PS Move pack-in game, it will include a new archery minigame along with bowling, skiing, boxing, golf, and tennis.
Sports Champions 2's Party Mode also enables groups of players to set up multi-game tournaments. That sounds like fun for the whole family, except for the socially-awkward fella that took last place in the screen above.

Machinarium will finally come to PS3 in September, at least in Europe, according to ... a comment thread on a European PlayStation Blog post. SCEE's Ross McGrath teased " two new titles as well in September, one brand new and one new to PSN" in a PlayStation Plus post.
Reader Antares commented on that post guessing that the brand new game was Double Dragon Neon and the new-to-PSN game was Machinarium, to which McGrath replied "Give the man a cookie, he's 100% right!" Community journalism!
The PS3 release is supposed to be tht "ultimate" version of the adventure game. Recently, designer Jakub Dvorsky indicated his interest in porting the game to Vita as well.

Many feel that a price cut would potentially give a shot in the arm to the PS Vita and possibly give it a lift before the coming holiday season. Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, however, indicates that isn't likely to happen and that some of the recently announced bundles for the system will have to suffice.
"People like cheap or free," he said. "Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on. But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so."
"At a certain point in the future we would like to address the pricing issue for some of the people who are waiting. But this year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles. We announced we will provide LittleBigPlanet PS Vita bundle pack. That's affordable for people who are looking for a good deal."
When asked flat out about a price cut, Yoshida said, "No, it's too early."
Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS from $249.99 to $169.99 in North America a half year after launch when early sales failed to meet company expectations. Sales of the system improved after the price cut and Nintendo recently launched the first 3DS variation in the 3DS XL.

Jim Ryan indicates they don't have to talk about it anymore
While Sony couldn't talk enough about the inclusion of 3D in it's various games a couple of years ago, announcements relating to 3D were absent from their media presentations during both E3 and Gamescom. According to Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation Europe, people shouldn't put too much significance into the recent lack of mention relating to 3D.
"I wouldn't read too much into its omission," said Ryan to CVG.
"We spoke about it at E3 two years ago and everyone put their glasses on for the first time, and the next year we did the same and everyone did it again. Y'know, there comes a time when you don't need to talk about it any more," the executive added. "Don't read into the fact too much that we haven't announced anything about 3D."
Stereoscopic 3D saw a resurgence mostly due to the popularity of the movie Avatar and its successful use of 3D cinematography. Despite a push by television manufacturers (including Sony) for new 3D enabled televisions, doubts have been raised about its viability in the home format for movies or video games.

Sony engineers are working to reduce the cost of manufacturing the PS Vita so it can cut the price of the handheld - but that price cut won't happen this year.Sony's fledgling portable has endured torrid sales since its launch last year in Japan and early this year in Europe, sparking calls for the Japanese company to slash its price. But Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer at Gamescom this week that the price of Vita will not drop this year. Instead, it hopes prospective buyers will find new bundles, such as the LittleBigPlanet Vita bundle announced during Sony's Gamescom press conference earlier this week, good enough value to convince them to take the plunge."People like cheap or free," he said. "Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on. But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so."At a certain point in the future we would like to address the pricing issue for some of the people who are waiting. But this year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles. We announced we will provide LittleBigPlanet PS Vita bundle pack. That's affordable for people who are looking for a good deal."So, no price cut this year? "No," Yoshida replied. "It's too early."Another criticism Vita has endured is that there are not enough games available for it. Yoshida said Sony had noticed this perception, and the addition of new games and content was now its number one priority."The reaction to the hardware platform itself has been very strong," he said. "We are very pleased with the response we got. It's up to our expectations in terms of what we were hoping for in bringing PS Vita to the market."But the actual sales of PS Vita, obviously we would like to see more uptake. We see lots of feedback from consumers saying they would like to see more content, they would like to see their favourite franchises coming to the PS Vita."From our perspective, we were very pleased to launch with many titles. Many people said we had the strongest launch line-up for a PlayStation platform. But it's amazing how much more people want and how much content they consume."We designed PS Vita as a medium you can spend hours immersed into playing games. That means any amount of content can be potentially consumed pretty quickly. Also, we feel the expectations of people have changed since the launch of smartphone gaming. There is so much available in terms of variety and numbers."So we have to continue to work on bringing more content from big titles people are looking for in terms of franchises, to very small, snack-sized, intuitive casual games on the digital distribution side."During its conference Sony revealed a raft of Vita games that are spin-offs of big franchises, including Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified and Killzone: Mercenary, and Yoshida hopes these games will boost sales of the handheld. But another way new content will be added to Vita is through PS Mobile, Sony's new way of getting smaller games built for the Android platform on a raft of PlayStation certified devices, including smartphones, tablets and, of course, Vita."PS Mobile is one of the initiatives we are working hard to provide an ecosystem like the App Store, so small developers and even individuals can create content and publish on PS Vita as well as PS certified Android devices," Yoshida said."And anything in between, like offering the PSone emulation compatibility. We were very happy to be able to announce later this month we will bring lots of PSone titles to PS Vita. That includes lots of great RPGs that people were asking for on PS Vita. I for one am looking forward to playing Legend on Dragoon again on PS Vita."So, that's our biggest focus now. The best way to realise the potential of the PS Vita platform is to provide the content. That's absolutely number one."

It's time to get realistic about the prospects of a PlayStation Vita price drop. Sony Worldwide Studios' head Shuhei Yoshida dampened the fires of speculation at GamesCom this week by telling Eurogamerthat it was simply "too early" to slash the price on the gaming handheld -- it was only just launched this year for every active region beyond Japan, after all. That's not to say Sony is determined to keep the PS Vita at $249 forever. Much like what it did for the PS3, the company is working to bring down the price by streamlining part costs. The cuts might be necessary given the mismatch between the warm reception to the quad-core, OLED-packing hardware and the actual sales; Sony would "like to see more uptake" than what's been seen to date, according to Yoshida. In the meantime, we'll have to be content with bundles like the European LittleBigPlanet combo if we want to eke out a little more value at the game store counter.

Sony used its Gamescom press conference to effectively relaunch its Vita handheld for Christmas.
And as part of the revamp, it will spend more money on marketing Vita this Q4 than it did over the platform’s launch earlier this year.
To improve the console’s slow sales the platform holder will launch a series of bundles featuring the biggest brands in games: Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, LittleBigPlanet and Need for Speed.
“We’re currently putting the finishing touches to our campaign, and throughout peak we’ll be spending more marketing money than we did during the launch period,” SCE?UK’s senior product manager Ian Vinten explained to MCV.
“Our comprehensive TV plan kicks off in September and will run in key bursts to Christmas, focusing on the new titles. Our first ad will feature FIFA 13 and LittleBigPlanet.
“Having FIFA 13 in our creative is a great example of how we’re engaging with the third-party titles. These games really deliver against the promise of the hardware and are what our consumers have been crying out for.”
Sony called on its own studios to satisfy demands for more Vita content too, unveiling two key titles in Germany:?a new Killzone and new IP from LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule called Tearaway.
“History has shown that great quality content drives demand for hardware,” added VP and MD for SCE UK & Ireland Fergal Gara.
“We hope you’ll agree that the outstanding array of software showcased at Gamescom, covering some of the biggest and best franchises, demonstrates our commitment to the platform.
“This strength and depth of software support, in combination with a heavyweight marketing campaign, retail focused bundles and sampling, puts the PS Vita in a very strong position for Christmas and beyond.”

EA has removed a branded Medal Of Honor: Warfighter tomahawkfrom sale and pulled a series of blog posts from the game's executive producer touting official partnerships with weapons manufacturers.
As we reported yesterday, the blog posts, written by executive producer Greg Goodrich, contained links to each manufacturer's official website, where guns, attachments and tactical accessories could be ordered online and delivered to a local weapons dealer.
While they're still published on the Warfighter site - here's Goodrich on the CS5 sniper rifle by which, remember, he was "blown away" - they can no longer be found using the website's navigation menu.
Also gone is SOG Knives' limited edition Voodoo Hawk, a tomahawk designed for the game and made in real life with Medal Of Honorbranding on the handle. The standard, branding-free edition is still available to pre-order on SOG's site.
Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom yesterday, Goodrich confirmed that the posts and tomahawk had been pulled, but insisted his conscience was clear because proceeds from the sale of the Voodoo Hawk had been earmarked for Project Honor, an EA scheme to support the Navy Seal Foundation and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provide support to fallen and wounded members of the military and their families.
"That whole effort, we've been working with these partners because we wanted to be authentic, and we wanted to give back to the communities," he said. "Every one of those partners, none of them paid a dime for product placement - all the money generated went to Project Honor.
"We're making a firstperson shooter and it fits. If we were doingNeed For Speed we'd do something different. If I was doing FIFAit'd be something different. But we're making a firstperson shooter about the warfighter. If we partnered with another brand it wouldn't make sense and it wouldn't be authentic."
Progress, then - of sorts, anyway. Yet Goodrich seems unrepentant - the changes to the campaign have been brought on by the outcry, and there is no admission of wrongdoing whatsoever - and those partnerships with manufacturers are still very much in place.
