Sony boss admits attracting developers to handheld has been difficult
Sony is struggling to attract third-party developers to create games for its Vita handheld, the company's worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida has admited.
The portable console was released last year in Japan with one of the most impressive launch lineups in industry history, but since that time new releases have slowed .
"We’re having a more difficult time than we had anticipated in terms of getting support from third-party publishers, but that’s our job," Yoshida told PlayStation: The Official Magazine.
“We will continue to talk to development communities and publishing partners and tell them why Vita can provide a great experience for the IPs they have and I hope the Assassin’s Creed game will prove that."
Handheld devices are suffering across the board from the challenge presented by tablets and smartphones.

The Vita is having an uphill battle for third party support
Sony
Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has admitted that Sony is having a tough time getting third-party developers to support the PlayStation Vita. The system has had a rough start worldwide, with Nintendo's 3DS providing strong competition following a price drop.
"We're having a more difficult time than we had anticipated in terms of getting support from third-party publishers, but that's our job," Yoshida told PlayStation: The Official Magazine.
"We will continue to talk to development communities and publishing partners and tell them why Vita can provide a great experience for the IPs they have and I hope the Assassin's Creed game will prove that."
Sony has declined to drop the price of the PlayStation Vita, instead hoping that titles like Assassin's Creed III: Liberation and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified pull consumers in this holiday season.

Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton has labelled Vitasales "acceptable".
It's hardly a ringing endorsement of the system's performance, but the executive toldGamesIndustry.biz he isn't disappointed with the handheld's showing at retail."In this industry, you can't get too high or too low, because it moves very quickly," he said. "I think there's an acceptable number - and [the number] we've sold: That's acceptable. If it was triple that, I'd be happier. If it was one-third, I'd be disappointed.
"Anything with great rewards is going to come with great challenges," Tretton added. "We felt if the tech was there, and the game support was there, then the audience would be there. ... I feel much better about it now than I did four months ago."
Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara said last week that the company "would love" Vita to be selling more, noting: "I think we haven't quite hit the spot with the killer software just yet and I have every reason to think that will happen in the next few months."
And earlier this week Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admitted for the first time that the PlayStation business has an uphill battle convincing some publishers to commit to its next gen portable.

The issue of gamers’ consumer rights has once again hit the headlines after another publisher abandoned plans to patch a product that has already been sold to consumers.
Konami has announced that despite releasing a patch for the PS3 version of Silent Hill HD Collection, it has abandoned plans to release the patch on Xbox 360 due to “technical issues and resources”.
The game has been bugged by frame rate and audio syncing issues since release.
The publisher says that it “apologizes to any players who are continuing to experience these issues on the Xbox 360", though added that it can still be purchased from shops.
The news comes after Fez developer Polytron admitted that it is not going to release a fix for a game-breaking bug for its title due to the expense, leaving some who purchased the title with corrupted saves.
But the fact remains – both Polytron and Konami entered into publishing agreements on Xbox 360 knowing of potential patching costs. It seems hard to excuse their decision to leave consumers who have purchased the game with sub-standard product simply because it would stretch the budget.

Mobile gaming now offers pocket-sized versions of Grand Theft Auto 3 and Minecraft, but the barrier for many remains a lack of decent analogue controls.Meet the GameKlip, a product designed to end the curse of the terrible on-screen joystick.GameKlip allows Android phones to nestle up to a PlayStation 3 DualShock controller. Connected wirelessly, the gadget (and the Sixaxis app) allow you to control mobile games with a proper pad.Inventor Ryan French is selling the GameKlip via his site, with models to fit most major Samsung Galaxy and HTC phones. It costs $15 (about £9.60, plus £10 shipping to the UK).Tablet versions are also on the way, as is a version that alternatively fits an Xbox 360 controller.

Everyone knows the elegant weapon for a more civilized age is the fight stick, the tried-and-true sidearm of every fighting game fan the world over. And so SuperBot Entertainment announced on Facebook today that the PS3 version ofPlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale will support fight stick peripherals.
"Fans of the fighting game genre can use their favorite arcade-style controller to play Battle Royale to full effect," the Facebook post mentions. "Every attack, combo, and strategy that can be performed on the DualShock 3 controller is seamlessly mapped to arcade button layouts."
Actually, there is one difference between using the fight stick and DualShock 3 – throwing. On the DualShock 3, the move is done using the right analog stick; on a fight stick, it'll be "an easy button combination, similar to many traditional fighting games."

In a Famitsu magazine interview leaked early from the magazine (and translated by Andriasang), Team Persona producer Katsura Hashino said that his team is currently focusing on the next numbered Persona game, which very likely means Persona 5. We must admit, our cynical nature forces us to note the possibility that more Persona 3 and 4 remakes would also have numbers on them.
According to Hashino, art director Shigenori Soejima has started turning in sketches for new designs. In the meantime, you can play Persona this week as you never have before: as a fighting game.

Mafia 3 is happening, and according to a report the title is being developed for next-gen consoles.
An alleged 2K source spilled the news to Eurogamer.cz, adding that the game was originally set for Xbox 360 and PS3 but was pushed back to next generation hardware.
The game is targeted for a 2013 launch if the source is to be believed.
“2K does not comment on internet rumour or speculation,” the company told VG247.

Codemasters has announced that Grid 2, the long awaited sequel to Race Driver: Grid, is set for a 2013 launch.
“Grid’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again,” said Clive Moody, executive producer.
“The core design philosophy for Grid 2 is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama – the feel and personality of the race.”
The game will feature a handpicked selection of cars over four decades and tracks from Paris, Miami and Abu Dhabi.
Grid 2’s single and multiplayer modes will be independent from one another. Career mode will span three continents, whilst multiplayer mode is a progression system for players.

Jpcsp SVN r2673 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:

Fixed unmapped import introduced by r2672

DanielBR is at it again with his release of his cat-inspired Mario clone PSP Homebrew Game called Syobon Action. In this version which is updated to R3, users will notice a few key changes in how this game operates. According to the developer’s site, the game should now be running smoothly at a clean 133mHz which will be a godsend to those of you who are hoping to play this platformer on the go.
Most importantly though, a key feature noted in this particular release of Syobon Action is that the game is now signed to play on both OFW and CFW, so if you’re a non-hacked user looking to play around with this zany style Japanese game, you will now get your chance.
As if that wasn’t enough to please you, you can even take this great game with you in a smaller package now that the content is compressed in .7z format. Finally, a final key feature to note is that you will be able to save and load as well, which makes this old-school style homebrew a little bit easier to handle if you don’t like the idea of finishing it all in a single sitting. Straight from the man himself, here are the controls you need to get this game going.
* joystick:
- On main menu:
START = Init the game play.
R - load the saved level (use START button after that)
CIRCLE - start random generated new level
- On the game play:
SELECT = back to main menu (and reset the level for the first, then you will need load again if you want play the saved level)
L = suicide (kill), and make a persistent save of the level
R = speed mode (for make fast the boring parts)
TRIANGLE = Jump
Digital Pad LEFT = go to left
Digital Pad RIGHT = go to right
Digital Pad DOWN = make something too (like the arrow down in PC version) Source and Additional Source

LittleBigPlanet Karting will have its vehicles cobbled together and ready to roll on Tuesday, November 6 in North America, Sony announced today. Of course, you'll be free to do your own cobbling after that.
To accompany this news, Sony sent out the new "Summer Sports" trailer, which is worth a watch for anyone carrying a torch for this game. Honestly, it just shows us what we're missing in the summer Olympics. Right now, the best Slap Judo athletes in the world are going untested.

Q Entertainment, the developer of the Lumines franchise, would love to launch a DLC pack including an HD remake of the classic PSP level "Shinin'" for Vita'sLumines Electronic Symphony. Ubisoft, however, controls Electronic Symphony's content – so Q Entertainment is asking fans to tell the publisher they want some DLC. This is what your mom was talking about when she said the "good" kind of peer pressure.
"Who wants some DLC?" Q Entertainment writes on the Electronic SymphonyFacebook wall. "To be clear: This is not something that's planned at the moment, but if enough people say 'yeah!' maybe Electronic Symphony's publisher, Ubisoft, will greenlight a high-def Vitafied recreation of 'Shinin''? Dare to dream."
Almost 100 people have said they "Like" the idea of Vita DLC, and others have added variations of "Yeah!" to the post's comments. Q Entertainment knows we can't all get what we want – unless we all want it, that is.
