Playing copycat to its fat console counterpart, PSP will soon see a few of its major releases available as a download in addition to a UMD. Sony announced today that two of its upcoming Japanese games will be available both through standard retail channels and via digital download.
Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2 and Bleach Soul Carnival will be following the route taken by PS3 titles like Gran Turismo Prologue. Sony will offer a download version of the games date in with the retail versions, and will even give players who go the download route a discount. Yuusha no Kuse will cost 2,800 yen in download form compared to 3,980 yen in UMD form. Bleach Soul Carnival will cost 3,800 yen for download and 4,743 yen in retail release.
While these titles are likely to remain in Japanese territorial waters, they're pretty high profile as far as Sony Japan's first party games go. Bleach Soul Carnival is the latest adaptation of the popular anime series. Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2 is a sequel to a critically acclaimed puzzle game that reverses the standard RPG setting, putting players in control of the beasts who must expel the encroaching heroes from dungeons.
Yuusha arrives first on October 16, with Bleach coming a week later on October 23.
Sony has yet to share details on Memory Stick storage requirements or how it will be handling instruction manuals.

pipagerardo has posted an entry into the Neoflash Coding Contest but sadly its a tad late, heres the release info:
if you're new to this game, it's rather simple to understand. You're on a battlefield fighting it out with other battle tanks. The objective, of course, is to survive the onslaught within the set time, cos you can have up to five opponent tanks attacking you.
But that's not the only exciting this about this game. You can actually play with a friend using the PSP's AdHoc connection. Of course, you get better too as you go along, having the capability to upgrade not only weapons and speed of your tank, but also the damage your tank can inflict on your opponents.

You have to remember a way, which is marked with grey or black fields for 5 seconds. After that, you have to control your "block" through the fields the same way...

phosphorous has posted an entry into the Neoflash Coding Contest:
The Good Bookr is a Bible reader for the Sony PSP, based on the open source Bookr ebook reader. A major goal of The Good Bookr is to provide a robust search interface which lends itself to Bible study. The Good Bookr uses SQLite to store, search, and retrieve Bible texts. It also uses Danzeff OSK for the search interface.
What's New
This version is exclusive to the Neoflash compo and adds support for looking up and cross referencing the original Greek and Hebrew words using Strong's Concordance. It might not sound like much but it adds a whole new depth of study. This addition required a lot of code as well as data crunching for storing the texts in a custom format.
Other Features
Load a specific book, from Genesis to Revelation.
Search by keyword, chapter, or verse.
Bookmark individual chapters and verses.
Navigate via book and chapter.
Configurable controls.
Select font face and font size.
Customize font and background colors.
Rotate the text to read vertically.

Quantic Dream has confirmed to Eurogamer plans for a pre-release demo of PS3 exclusive-of-the-moment Heavy Rain, while hinting at the potential for downloadable content in the convention-smashing adventure.
"Yes, of course, there will be a demo," said studio president David Cage, speaking to us the morning after the long-rumoured game was finally unveiled during Sony's GC 2008 conference. Given the nature of the title, however, demo content is likely to steer clear of the main story, instead focusing on conveying the game's unique mechanics.
"We need to think about it, but I wouldn't want to spoil the story," Cage added. "We've spent a lot of time working on the story this time; we've worked with people from Hollywood, script writers, to really make it just right. And I think it's a very unusual story for a videogame, so I think people will be quite surprised."
The gameplay walkthrough we witnessed earlier today was described as a separate episode not related to the main storyline, and this points ahead to ways in which Quantic Dream is considering expanding the game with downloadable content, as well as future titles.
"This is something it's really too early to talk about, but it's definitely a possibility," Cage revealed. "There's so many possibilities with this thing, because what matters now is just the story you want to tell. Do you have a good story to tell? Then you can do it, because this thing isn't specific to the series. You can tell any story with this interface, because it's entirely contextual."
Look out for a detailed preview of the Leipzig demo soon, and if you haven't already, be sure to check out the announcement trailer on Eurogamer TV. Heavy Rain is due out on PS3 next year.

Sony has announced plans to follow up this summer's Buzz! Master Quiz for PSP with another handheld title based on Relentless Software's famous quiz series.
This time though it's a Brain Training, er, tribute, called Buzz! Brain Bender (a brave name for British playgrounds), which is due out this Christmas.
Trip-B, as we're calling it for one paragraph only, boasts 16 mini-games designed to improve memory, observation, calculation and analysis.
For analysis, there's Path Finder (a maze game) and Power Struggle (work out who wins in a tug of war between different vehicles), while for observation there's Match Up (work out how many pairs of contestants there are) and Pattern Match (identify shapes to fit a grid).
Then for memory there's Take Away (identify missing cards) and Sound Bites (recall the order animal sounds were played), and for calculation there's Blot Swot (solve maths problems despite missing numbers) and Sliced Up (work out how much food hasn't been eaten).
Single players will be able to tackle these in a training mode, the objective-based Challenge mode and a Test mode that tracks your progress over time.
You'll also be told how much power your brain's outputting in kilojoules, and then shown the equivalent, like a vacuum cleaner or a jukebox.
Finally, there's multiplayer where you pass the PSP around a group of up to six people to take part.
Check out the Buzz! Brain Bender PSP screenshot gallery to see what it all looks like.

The new Be A Pro career mode will put you in the skates of an up and coming superstar. Start in the AHL and work your way up to the NHL, with the ultimate goal of becoming an NHL legend. The new Performance Tracker will rate your play in over 60 categories so you will know exactly what parts of your game you need to improve. Here you are then; five new Resistance 2 screenshots from - you guessed it - the wonderful Leipzig Games Convention, which our man on the ground is joyfully skipping around right now.
Insomniac's FPS, to be fair, looks flippin' incredible.
It's been dated for Novemeber this year, and will provide some real competition for Microsoft's big shooter sequel Gears of War 2.

Sony Australia today confirmed that "it will not be introducing the limited edition 160GB PS3 announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe at the 2008 Games Convention Developers Conference (GCDC) held in Leipzig, Germany." The company did state, however, that Australia will be receiving the new PSP model on October 16 (read more here), while the Wireless Keypad will also be released in Australia "before the end of the year." It also confirmed that Play TV, the system that allows PS3 users to watch, pause and record free-to-air TV, will be heading to Australia in the first half of 2009.
While Aussie gamers may not have the 160GB model to look forward to, we will be stepping up to the 80GB system soon – it's coming to Australia on August 28 for AU $699, and will have a DualShock 3 controller bundled in.
With no sign of the PSN video download service for Australia (the last word from Sony was that it wouldn't be coming to Australia any time soon) and Play TV only having a nebulous 'first half of 2009' date, it's not surprising that Sony isn't pushing the new 160GB model down under. After all, it has no new features beyond the expanded storage. We would hope, however, that as video downloads and Play TV come closer to reality in Australia, that the 160GB model will be re-evaluated.
For those of you interested in the Wireless Keypad for PS3 it's a Bluetooth enabled accessory "designed to fit precisely into the unique shape of SixAxis and DualShock 3 wireless controllers, allowing users to enjoy text chat communication more easily and comfortably in their hands. In addition to the keypad for text input, a Touch Pad Button enables PS3 users to use the entire surface of the keypad as a touch pad, allowing them to easily manoeuvre the pointer while web browsing, simply by sliding their finger on the keypad surface. Also, two shortcut buttons, a Communication Button and a Message Box Button, are placed on the lower part of the Wireless Keypad, enabling users to jump to pre-set features on XMB (XrossMediaBar) such as 'Friends' and 'Message Box' during game play, which help users to easily communicate with each other." Yes, it's quite a bit like a juiced up version of the Xbox 360 Chatpad.

Moving on to Sony's media goodies, here's the Killzone 2 screenshots released at the Leipzig Games Convention.
A release date was nailed down at E3 a few months ago, and you'll be able to walk into the shops and pick up your copy of the massively hyped FPS in February 2009.
Let's hope it's not just another very average action shooter - that would be embarrassing.

Here are the latest SOCOM: Confrontation screenshots from somewhere in Germany. Cough.
Beta keys for the latest multiplayer shooter instalment are being dished out in groups of three for pre-orders.
So if US gamers get down the shops in time for the September 1 open date you can try out Confrontation with some mates before launch.
We're still waiting for word from Sony on a UK beta scheme, but we're not holding our breath to be honest.
