Sony has told Eurogamer that PlayTV will not allow saved video files be transferred to PSP, PC, or memory sticks.
Instead, the PS3 telly-recorder will only be able to stream live or recorded content to your PSP using remote play functionality.
Sony Cambridge, the studio making the software for PlayTV, had told us there was no copy protection or time restrictions on the standard format recordings, which could be moved freely onto all manner of storage devices.
No reason for the change of heart was given.
We were also told that PlayTV will not record HD signals at launch, and that Sony is working on making this feature possible in the future.
PlayTV will launch on 19th September for GBP 69.99.

A few years ago, aspiring Korean DJs started tapping beats in time with PSP music and racking up high scores. The game was called DJ Max, and Americans would never know the game's glory unless they were ready to call their favorite import shops.
That's about to change.
PM Studios announced this morning that it will be publishing Pentavision's DJ Max Fever in the United States. The basic gist of the game is that players pick songs and then need to tap corresponding buttons as icons cross a line above said button indicators. It's kind of like the Guitar Hero concept mixed up with scratching, techno beats, and scantily clad female DJs. For more on the nuts and bolts of gameplay, check out a preview IGN did at GDC 07 when a version of the game -- which might or might not be Fever -- cropped up in San Francisco.
DJ Max Fever is going to be a mix of DJ Max Portable and DJ Max 2. The title will pack in more than 100 songs for you to tap through; a Freestyle mode that's activated by performing a perfect mix; goal-based contests called Extreme challenges; five difficulty levels; Network Battle Mode; and a collection gallery to house the music videos, soundtracks, and images you unlock.
We've got tons of screens and a handful of movies in the gallery below. As you can see, DJ Max Fever has an anime styling to it and some catchy tunes. Look for a hands-on in the coming weeks, and look for the game to hit your local retailer on Nov. 11, 2008.

PlayTV, a peripheral and software package that will allow PS3 to receive and record digital TV broadcasts, will launch in UK in September, confirms Sony.
Granted, that's hardly pocket change, but it is 30 quid less than the £100 price tag that had been predicted.
PlayTV uses the PS3's hard drive to store TV broadcasts, allowing you to record entire programs for playback later, or even pause live TV while you nip off to cook some toast. Although, if you've only got a 40GB PS3 you may need to think about expanding that baby.
An exact day of release is yet to be confirmed.

Jonathan Blow, creator of the highly-praised Xbox Live Arcade puzzler Braid, has said that the title may make it to PS3 after the Xbox exclusivity deal has passed.
"It's a limited exclusive so if I were to try to make a PS3 or WiiWare version of the game I would have to wait a little bit," he said, explaining that he was fully focused on the PC version.
"PS3 might happen in the future. What's going to definitely happen this year is a PC release. The only reason that's not out right now is because I wanted to focus on one platform at a time," Blow added.
Wii owners, however, have no chance. "WiiWare is not going to happen for this game ... Braid is too big of a game to be downloaded on WiiWare and stored on someone's Wii," he told Game Focus, which makes sense considering the game weighs in at 144MB.
On another note, Braid has scored an overall 92 percent on both Metacritic and Gamerankings, making it the highest-rated XBLA game of all time, and the tenth highest rated 360 game. That's pretty good going.

In a Gamasutra interview, Sega of America President Simon Jeffery hinted at a Western release for Phantasy Star Portable. Here is a quote from the interview:
Gamasutra: I was amused to see the Phantasy Star Portable news, because it was like a lightbulb went off at Sega. "Maybe we should take our idea back from Monster Hunter!"
Simon Jeffery: Right. (laughter) I think that's exactly what happened at Sega!
Gamasutra: Capcom has had difficulty putting that model forward in the west, but Phantasy Star has done okay. Maybe not as well as it should, but okay.
Simon Jeffery: It's done okay, and there's still quite a lot of people out there playing it every month.
Gamasutra: So do you think you can take that market here with that title?
Simon Jeffery: I think that it's not going to be a blockbuster success, but I think it will be a niche success. I'm certainly hopeful that it's more of a success in the west than Monster Hunter has been. There is a built-in audience for it already there.
I think the crossover of the PSP ownership will work quite nicely, so we're fairly hopeful we can make something out of it. It's not going to be huge, but hopefully it'll be interesting.
While a Western release has not been formally announced yet, these comments should be taken as strong indication that Phantasy Star Portable will be released outside Japan.

Oh, the heck! It seems like a good time to anounce it now... just to not make other coders double the work that's already done (well, unless you want to... there is nothing bad about it).
I already have PSX emulator for PS2 called "PS2PSXe" (obvious, isn't it?). At first I wanted to make it as pcsx port, but this emulator isn't very optimal and well coded (and on PS2 we have to use everything we can to make it work realtime). That's why most part of it is written from scratch, just few parts remained... but I'm working to getting everything written from scratch.
The good thing is that the architecture matches in general, so CPU code is really simple. For memory access I used hardware TLB capabilities of PS2 (same for hardware access), so the memory access is also faster than on PSX. The PAD is just translated and sent almost directly to IOP side... it's now also very compatible. Memory cards are emulated and can be stored on any media (alternatively they could be simply translated to use real PSX MC in PS2 memory card slot). The SPU is also simply translated and almost directly send to IOP side (though, the sound is a little bit jerky... I'll probably have to create some intermediate buffer first). The cdrom part is handled almost entirely on IOP in asynchonous mode, so it just reads some sectors ahead while the main program uses already transferred data on EE side... it's also quite fast (I use host mostly, but it works fine with usb and hdd, too). It supports, of course, subchannels and cdda (cdda is dummy supported, it simulates laser head movement and playback, but in fact nothing is played nor data is accessed). The GTE is done on VUs (not that there is really a need to, GTE commands are not a big part of the whole load... it was more like fun to work on it... and became quite a hell now when I try to synchronize it now with new HW GPU core, so I'll probably dump it for some versions now). MDECS are handled mostly with IPU, though, I didn't make them independent of the emulation yet (which means they go through emulated CPU first), but I'm working on it (it can be done, there are emulators that handle it this way). COP0 emulation is very simplistic (no real support for debug functions, though there is some code that simulates it enough to make games using it work).
The last part, and the bottleneck right now is GPU that uses software rendering. It's based on Pete's P.E.Op.S GPU plugin, though many fixes had been done to make it work much faster on PS2 as well as make some games run at all and other display everything properly. New HW GPU is still under development, but right now it makes most games work more than two times faster (it shouldn't be much lower in final version, as the most time consuming part: VRAM writes and reads are already implemented... though, a little bit suck yet ).
Anyway, the status is: it is quite compatible. Already runs some simpler games at full speed, some more demanding (like final fantasy series in cities) at 35-45fps (let's assume for simplicity 50fps is 100% for pal and 60fps is 100% for ntsc... though it's not that simple), while some really demanding 3D games at ~17-25fps... Currently the worse speed is achieved in games that are using a lot of Vram->RAM and RAM->Vram transfers all the time. The new HW GPU doubles that (ie. it gives in FF9 in cities ~85-105 FPS). Only few people tested this app, but dlanor (a mod here and co-developer of uLE) wasted a lot of his time on the tests (probably even more than I did ).
Though, recently ESR and few other projects have stopped the development... but I'll be on it shortly (I hope I'll be able to finish everything while there still are some PS2 users around ).
Just wanted to let you know . Oh well, it's not a secret anymore (I even posted a beta testers recruitment post some time ago, but only two persons answered, and only one decided finally to help - you guessed, dlanor ).

Via PSPfanboy:
One of our longtime readers, Brian B., recently attempted to purchase the PSP camera, Chotto Shot. However, when he attempted to purchase the product, he got a strange, foreboding message from the retailer. "Due to a safety issue and high defect rate, we are issuing a product recall to anyone who has purchased a PSP Chotto Shot Camera after July 1st, 2008. Even though these units have been tested, we have been getting reports that some of these units have been running extremely hot, and have emitted a burning smell from the unit. An already dangerous and unfortunate situation, this could lead to the even more serious event of a fire starting from the unit."
According to the retailer, "the manufacturer is already aware of the problem." Considering the camera is not available in America, we cannot contact a SCEA representative to comment on this problem. However, a look at both import sites Play-Asia and NCSX show that the PSP camera is currently not in stock.

Fans of this virtual racer have been waiting for five long years since Sega released Initial D Special Stage on PlayStation2. To justify this long wait, Sega upgraded this installment by making use of the advanced graphical capabilities of the PlayStation3 console, the visions of familiar cars and mountain regions are recreated with striking resemblances to reality, making the game play more exciting than ever.
The event scenes and characters are drawn with water color shading techniques similar to the style of the comic artist Shuichi Shigeno so players can experience a full absorption into the world of Initial D.
The old courses in the Gunma prefecture and characters as featured in the arcade games are included in this new installment. In addition to that, the developers put in new characters like the pro-racer Tomoyuki Tachi whom Takumi regards as his eternal rival and new courses in Happogahara.
The twenty eight race courses in the game are from the hilly regions of Akina and Myogi etc. There are twenty three cars and twenty six drivers to choose from and to beat.
Choose your favourite race car and challenge the mountainous race courses throughout Japan in Inital D Extreme Stage. The Asian version of the game is sold at a bargain price of US$ 34.90 only for your PlayStation3™.
Please note that the Asian version comes with a bilingual manual in Japanese and English and does not support online game modes.
