SEGA forum admin RubyEclipse claims Virtua Tennis 2009 has been pushed back a month to June.
The thread says polishing the Wii version, which features Wii MotionPlus controls, is the reason for the delay. The new US target for all versions - PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 - is 2nd June. We're waiting to hear back from SEGA about European plans.
That potentially sits the release of Virtua Tennis 2009 right next to EA's Grand Slam Tennis, which also has Wii MotionPlus controls. The latter will bundle the WMP accessory at launch on 12th June for an added tenner.
We served and volleyed with Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii and PS3 recently, and were very impressed.

Ubisoft is releasing DLC for its aerial dogfighter HAWX on PS3 and 360 today. The US Eagles pack brings five new aircraft to the game and costs costs 400 Microsoft points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80 ), or GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99 on PSN.
The planes in question are the beautiful SR-71 Blackbird (otherwise known as the X-Men's ride), the F-111 Aardvark, the crazy flying wedge of the A-12 Avenger (a stealth bomber prototype), the F-15 Peak Eagle variant, and the F-4 Phantom II, a fighter that will be legendary to Airfix model-builders of a certain age.
There's no confirmation of the pack's availability, future or otherwise, on PC.

Disney's upcoming G-Force game will include 3D options.
G-Force, based on an upcoming film about guinea pig spec-ops, will use off-axis 3D with red/blue-lens glasses, Kotaku reports.
Apparently it's a system where - thank f*** for Wikipedia - "the optical axis of the aperture is not coincident with the mechanical centre of the aperture". Makes sense. A toggle will be available through G-Force on both PS3 and 360.
As previously announced, Wii title Toy Story Mania also uses 3D for some of its mini-games.

ollowing yesterday's financial results, THQ's CEO Mike Farrell has discussed the challenges of breaking even on core games, saying that the era of making an investment back selling 700 to 800 thousand units are "unfortunately over."
"The only area where the break-evens are challenging for us, and the industry, is in the core area," said Farrell during a conference cal with investors.
"If you're going to compete in that segment, you've got to have gameplay, storyline, technology, and marketing spend that drive you home with that core consumer, and that's the one segment where the break-even points are still relatively challenging, which is why we said let's just focus on one to two per year" during last year's business restructuring.
When asked to clarify approximately how many units the publisher needs to sell in order to break even, and if a core title could show a return on investment by selling 800 thousand units, Farrell denied that possibility, saying "On the core titles, yeah, 700, 800 thousand units, those days unfortunately, we think, are over."
THQ segments its software into five categories: core gamer, fighting, mass appeal/family, kids, and online. While core titles provide a challenge for the publisher, Farrell says he is comfortable in the remaining categories.
"Fighting, we've been in for a long time, we understand how to do that, so we're very comfortable with the break-evens there," said Farrell, referring to its WWE and WWF wrestling franchise that has been a THQ staple since 1999, as well as the upcoming UFC 2009 Undisputed. "I think those have been relatively stable if not coming down a little bit over time."
"Clearly on kids and mass appeal, the reason we like those markets is the break-evens are relatively low," continued Farrell. "On a game like Big Beach Sports, our break-even was very low, and it's been extremely profitable because we put up big units on a very low investment. So on those three categories we're either [seeing a] flat or declining break-even."
Farrell estimates that THQ can break even on kids titles by selling between 100 and 400 thousand units. With mass market titles, that number varies more.
"The beauty of that [mass market] business is those are all driven by consumer trends and the type of gameplay, and not necessarily cost," he said.
"As you move up the food chain and we get more complex - things like de Blob - the break-even would go up, so I'd give you a similar range, sort of 100 to 400 thousand units in those areas. So fairly low in the kids and mass appeal, as you might suspect, but much higher on the core titles."
As far as break-even points on online and MMO titles, "it depends on the segment of that market," Farrell said.
"We like the way we structured a couple of our initial online investments. We have really no net investment in the Shanda deal, yet we've extracted a lot of learning from that," he continued, referring to a partnership between THQ and Shanda to distribute Company of Heroes in Asian territories.
"Getting into the casual MMO space, we did a joint venture as you know, so I think it was a very smart deal. That being said, the MMO is a pretty significant investment, but we love the prospects for that brand."

By now, this point should be drilled into game makers' skulls. The games industry has morphed into a service-based business. Downloadable content matters. Not only does it increase the longevity of titles both on and off the retail shelf--driving new game sales and preventing trade-ins--it is also an easy way to squeeze out some extra cash from that big-budget boxed product. Hell. A lot of cash.
Activision has announced that the first chunk of downloadable content for Call of Duty World At War, Map Pack 1, has now sold 2 million units. That $9.99 pack of four maps has generated nearly $20 million.
It's another sign that downloadable content is turning into a big business. John Riccitiello, chief executive of Electronic Arts, stated during the company's earnings call that all Electronic Arts titles would be open to digital expansions. Game downloads and microtransactions generated $80 million in revenues for the company last year, and Riccitiello expects EA's online business to exceed $500 million this fiscal year.
Some game players may grimace at the thought of spending extra cash for new maps, but it's a good thing for the industry as it's another revenue model it can turn to "boxed product" business begins to dwindle.

Publisher Namco Bandai has told CasualGaming.biz that the upcoming PS3-exclusive Katamari Forever will be a boxed title in Europe.
Earlier reports had suggested that the game will mirror recent moves from the likes of Capcom and be download only. It’s not known whether the game will also ship on Blu-ray in North America and Japan.
Due out this autumn, Katamari Forever is the fifth console instalment in the cult franchise. It will boast a number of graphical filters designed to provide the title with a unique look, and will also boast 1080p HD visuals.

Congratulations Blu-ray, you might be ready to step into the zone of mass market acceptance, as NPD's retail tracking service found Q1 sales of standalone players up 72 percent over last year, moving over 400,000 units with a 14% increase in dollar sales. Last year sure the format survived mad fights but high prices were a setback; fast forward to March when an online survey of 6,994 people found awareness has reached 90 percent in the last six months, with customers fascinated by its updates. Although BD-Live is looking more and more like an unneeded gimmick, the real facts are people care about cost and average player prices dropped from $393 last year to $261 in 2009. The "Blu-ray report" suggests the magic number is $214 for folks like Shawn Marion, so more room might be needed to breeze, and could come as soon as this fall around the time Vizio's player finally appears. It might be tragic for Vudu, CBHD and others trying to get a foothold, but Blu-ray's magic wand is word of mouth - so while much talked about, but much lower selling tech like Kindle is happy as hell to get a record deal, right now Blu-ray's unique skills can't be compared.

Hey.
During the development of my game I wanted to be able to playback MP3's using the PSP's media engine processor. Knowing that there existed a few libs already I decided to try and use one rather than reinventing the wheel.
The best and most powerful one that I saw seemed to be Sakya's example from LightMP3. So I download and tried to compile it but due to changes in the SDK it wouldn't compile.
After a little chat to IWN I had it fixed in a matter of minutes
So for anyone else that wants to be able to playback MP3, OGG or Atrac3 on the media engine on there game download this and your all set. It's really easy to integrate.
Note : I take no credit for this lib at all. It was made by sakya, all I have done is modify the source code so it compiles on the latest toolchain.
Enjoy

Konami will add Race Mission and Patriot modes to Metal Gear Online during May. They're free, available to all and not nearly as naughty as they sound.
First, on 12th May, Konami will introduce the Race Mission mode, where Blue and Red teams search for and protect targets while passing through a series of checkpoints. Successful passes spawn subsequent checkpoints, but drops will reset progress if the target is not retrieved in time.
Then, on 26th May, Konami will introduce the Patriot feature. This randomly selects a few players from the Metal Gear Online userbase to become Patriots, who receive a 5.56mm Hand Rifle that has infinite ammo and no need to reload.
"You'd better watch out when a Patriot joins your game!" exclaims Konami Online's Brandon Laurino on the US PlayStation blog.
The SCENE expansion was added to Metal Gear Online in March, and added two new playable characters, three maps, modes and accessories. Players do not need this, nor any of the previous expansions, to benefit from the upcoming modes.

The PLAYSTATION 3 has outsold the Wii for the past two-and-a-half months. That we know. What percentage the Japanese PS3 sales have spiked since the same month last year, that we didn't — until now.
According to April data released by Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, PLAYSTATION 3 sales are up 288 percent from the same period last year. The reason for the dramatic increase was the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete. The flick was bundled with the eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII demo.
A sign of things to come when the game is released only on the PS3 in Japan?

PlayStation Home is in the middle of one of their biggest content updates ever, and the North American release of the Japanese Siren: Blood Curse space plays a major part.
It's a big week for PlayStation Home. They're giving away Patapon 2 t-shirts on Thursday; they're adding a living room stage set perfect for machinima; and now they've brought the chilling Siren 2: Blood Curse home space over from Japan. The Siren space consists of three areas. A run-down circus serves as your entry point into the space, from which you can move to the Ward of Despair mini-game lobby, with the third section being the game itself.
The Ward of Despair is a mini-game for up to five players, set in the Saiga Hospital stage from the downloadable PlayStation Network game. each given a task to complete within five minutes. If all players manage to complete their tasks without being taken out by zombies they receive creepy costumes as a reward.
You'll want to score these rewards before May 12th, which is when the Siren: Horror Bowl Tournament takes place. Players who show up to the event in their Siren costumes will qualify for a chance to win the first four episodes of the PSN game.
Note that the Siren: Blood Curse space is only coming to North America at the moment, with a European release planned somewhere down the line.
The PlayStation Blog post announcing all of this new content also hints at upcoming Tekken 6 costumes and Killzone 2 t-shirts to stand around in.
I'm really glad to see so much happening in Home these days. I don't think they've come close to tapping its full potential yet, but Sony is definitely making headway.

PlayStation 3 music and video download service VidZone is to launch this summer in Europe, allowing users to download music videos on demand and at no cost.
London-based firm VidZone Digital Media currently offers its service from its own website, with support from Sony BMG, EMI and thousands of independent labels. The ad-supported PS3 service will allow users to view direct streamed music videos, interviews and behind the scenes footage from the company’s catalogue of more than 25,000 downloads.
"VidZone is not just about giving music fans access to thousands of music videos, but offering a completely interactive and personalised music experience," said VidZone CTO and director of digital business development Michael Russo.
The VidZone application will be accessible from the PS3’s Xross Media Bar (XMB), allowing users to select individual videos, save a video library or create custom playlists. Downloads and playlists can also be managed and initiated via the PSP.
"Music has always been popular on PS3 and now VidZone is set to transform the way we view music videos by letting you completely tailor your experience and is just one more reason for PS3 to be the most valued player in your living room," said Isabelle Tomatis, hardware and platforms marketing manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
Support for VidZone had originally been announced in August of last year and was intended to go live in the first quarter of 2009. Although now confirmed for the summer, an exact launch date has still not been given. VidZone will only be available in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, German, Spain and Australia.

Finally the day has come when PSP 3000 Owners can Join those of us and play homebrew, Davee has released his ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler, heres the full details:
5.03 ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler - Team Typhoon (Article by Granite) So comes the release of the highly anticipated ChickHEN homebrew enabler by Team Typhoon. After 1800 Lines of code, 4 weeks of stressful developing and countless amounts of tests the dawn of a new homebrew era for all the 3000, 2000 and 1000 users is on the horizon. What was said to be impossible by many is now a reality, all styles homebrew are now running on the "unhackable" T88v3 and TA-090 motherboards rolled out by Sony.
What does the ChickHEN do?
ChickHEN as a Homebrew Enabler that allows the execution of homebrew via the PSP XMB. Running via a vulnerability in the lib TIFF the launcher takes advantage of the system by performing a kernel exploit and rebooting into a homebrew enabled enviroment. The ChickHEN remains active until the PSP is fully reset in which case official firmware loads from the flash. ChickHEN unlike other HEN's doesn't touch the flash0 and resides completely in memory. The h.bin supplied in this download consists of a loader and systemex, which is a inversed order of systemctrl and rebootex
What ChickHEN does NOT do?
-Run ISO, CSO or any other form of UMD backup.
-Run PSX Games
-Touch The Flash of your beloved PSP
-Magically allow the use of Custom Firmware
-Load plugins
How do i get the HEN to run on my PSP?
1. First off use the supplied TIFF image and place it in the PSP>PHOTO Directory.
2. Copy h.bin over to the MS ROOT and safely remove device.
2. Scroll over to the PHOTO icon on the XMB and click the ChickHEN folder and wait. (This will not work the first time, you may have to just use a method of loading that works for you but this is what we have found most efficient)
3. If all goes well the screen should blank out and flash green showing that the HEN is loaded and all is well.
4. Wait for your PSP to reboot and check your PSP's system software. It should now display: "5.03 ChickHEN".
5. Scroll on over to GAME and enjoy some Homebrew!
