Recently the last few months i cant be the only one who has noticed that Homebrew on all consoles has suffered a downturn, most notably on what was the biggest homebrew scene of all the PSP and second biggest the Nintendo DS.
Soon the PSP3000 will be cracked for homebrew and that will bring a mass of new Homebrew users, the DSi is being worked on and you never know when a breakthrough will come.
Add to that the Dingoo A320, the Gp2x Wiz and Pandora will bring many new users and reiginite many of the older fans of homebrew.
As always with the Homebrew scene on every console theres quiet times and then theres explosions, the real fans of Homebrew will always be around for the next big thing.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today the release of Patapon 2, available exclusively for PSP (PlayStation Portable). Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, Japan Studio, Patapon 2 marks the return of the beloved 2D platform-action and rhythm game where players command a colorful tribe of Patapons, a fearless group of quirky eyeball warriors, through a series of challenging quests in an unfamiliar land. Building upon the distinct combination of action and rhythm-based gameplay introduced in the critically-acclaimed 2008 original, players must utilize various combinations of drumbeats to command the Patapon to march, retreat, attack, defend, charge, and use magic in the quest for victory and finding Earthend. Patapon 2 is available now in a digital only format for $19.99. Consumers can purchase Patapon 2 at retail stores in the form of redeemable voucher cards or purchase directly from PlayStation Network.
"As an established franchise on PSP, Patapon 2 delivers top value at $19.99. Its signature charm and intelligent gameplay mechanics return along with more than 200% more content," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. "With the introduction of multiplayer mode, along with customizable characters and new Evolution System, Patapon 2 is an accessible and intuitive experience that bridges the gap between casual and core gamers."
With more than double the content of its predecessor, Patapon 2 features a deeper single-player experience along with a wealth of original missions and new cast of warriors, including a customizable "Hero" character. A first for the franchise, Patapon 2 also offers a multiplayer mode where up to four players can take their Hero Patapons and join forces in a collaborative marching rhythm to carry a mysterious egg across a treacherous battlefield. Success brings a "Don Chaka" mode, where players are tested again with drumming a collective rhythm to gain items that can be used in single player. Patapon 2 also delivers Game Sharing functionality to allow multiple people to play together so long as one of them owns the game.
Catering to both the core franchise fanatic and the Patapon novice, Patapon 2 features difficulty settings that adjust the single-player gameplay to the appropriate level of the player, thus allowing the game to be experienced and enjoyed by players of all skill sets. Whether a Patapon veteran or rookie, Patapon 2 brings players into a charming and melodic world full of color and wit, featuring over 80 specific missions and more than 20 boss encounters while the tribe of scampering eyeballs seek Earthend.
From the fertile imagination of French graphic artist Rolito, Patapon 2 opens in the signature 2D world of the Patapons as they depart their homeland in their ongoing pursuit of Earthend. Arriving in a strange land after a harrowing ocean journey, the Patapons come eyeball-to-eyeball with the Karmen Tribe and the strange, dangerous creatures that inhabit their land. In leading the Patapon tribe to its ultimate quest, players will unlock and discover new ranks of Patapons: the bird riding Toripon, the powerful robotic Robopon warriors, and Mahopon magicians. Additionally a new superior warrior, the Hero Patapon, can be customized to fit any fighting style desired by mixing various weapons and Patapon Hero masks. Once in battle, players will have the opportunity to lead the Patapons to victory with a total of eight command rhythms, including the new jump, power-up, and party commands – all which can be combined to change gameplay tactics and action throughout the various missions.
Leading the upgraded strategic elements of Patapon 2 is the new Evolution System. Skills on the battlefield can be dramatically improved by evolving into other Patapon forms, called Rarepons, through upgrades and "level ups." Players can strategically customize and build the Patapon army by determining the appropriate weapons, armor, and battle positions. True to its musical roots, Patapon 2 also offers seven music-based mini-games that allow players the opportunity to earn bonuses and upgrades to further customize the Patapon warriors in preparation for fun and rhythmic battle.
The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates Patapon 2 "E" for "Everyone". For more information about the ESRB, visit www.esrb.org. For more information about Patapon 2, visit http://www.patapon-game.com/

News from the Fusa Website:
Good news for all FuSa SD users. No more "slow motion" that's upcoming build is all about. Well, in plain words, games like Tekken DR, Bleach and so on, which have been unplayable recently now runs with full speed!
This is result of my work with reverse engeneering irshell app. You know, the author of that app didn't ever send me a single message, when I ask for help. But some free time + disassembler helps a lot
Now about changes:
There won't be SpeeDBoosteR option anymore, because it's turned on by default, and now it's compatible with *all games!
Main engine was optimized (more then a half of source code was rewritten)
Added new feature allowing to switch FS modes on-fly
As for betatesters they can test all this new stuff right now, cause build 50 will be able for downloading today
Promo video
Public release date will be anounced later
*all games - that we learn soon with help of our beta-testers team

Dashhacker just posted his newest progress he made over the weekend to keep the community up to date:
"As far as an ETA goes... I'm aiming for the end of the week. Fingers crossed, you may have something to play with by Friday. Depending on how the builds go!
COMPLETE:
- PSP homebrew application written to extract Remote Play keys.
- Authentication reverse-engineered and implemented in API.
- Audio and video stream decryption implemented in API.
- Audio decoding (AAC using libfaad2) implemented in API.
- Video decoding (H.264 ES libavcodec) implemented in API.
- Event system implemented, keyboard support working.
- Design simple GUI to manage and launch configuration profiles.
TODO:
- BETA release binary builds for Mac OSX, and Windows.
- Add proper audio+video synchronization (added a quick hack for now).
- Clean-up and document API.
- Release source code."
It seems more and more that we may get a real release and not just another of the lame fakes as common. Well, he aims the Beta version at friday so we will see soon. Windows and MacOS users will get a binary, Linux users will have to compile the source code themself. If it works like he claims, then we can use the PS3's remote play function (which is meaned to connect to PSP) with many devices as Iphone's or simple Windows/Mac/Linux computers soon.

Shiny Entertainment the studio behind Earthworm Jim and The Matrix: Path of Neo is no more. The fractured entity now exists within Foundation 9.
Before the sale, Shiny Entertainment was working on at least two PSP games. Earthworm Jim was officially put on hold by Atari. Age of Element was so early in development it wasn’t even officially announced.
Shiny, with the help of overseas art company Blackbow Software, started making models Age of Element. Unfortunately, since Age of Element there aren’t any other details it’s hard to gauge what kind of game Shiny Entertainment was working on. Seems like it had characters from around the world. Maybe it was something like an Age of Empires RPG?

Activision just sent word that the multiplayer map DLC for Call of Duty: World at War (otherwise known as Map Pack 1) has surpassed a combined worldwide download milestone of 2 million units across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Needless to say, Activision seems pleased ... and why wouldn't it be? Map Pack 1 already broke Xbox Live sales records, selling one million units in its first week of availability.
Treyarch studio head, Mark Lamia, took a moment to comment on the "milestone," thanking the loyal community of World at War players for supporting the game -- and presumably, for not being completely tired of World War II themed shooters. Lamia also reminds gamers the World at War team expects to deliver new DLC sometime this June.

As we've pointed out with numbers, few Japanese publishers are as tardy with their European releases as Square Enix. So how's the Final Fantasy XIII localisation coming along, then?
In a statement that's not exactly encouraging for European fans, Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase has told Videogamer:
Obviously we would like to release [in Europe] as soon as possible. Traditionally the Final Fantasy numbered series, it takes about half a year between the release in Japan and the release in North America, and another half a year before it's released in Europe. But we would like to minimise this, this time.
For example we have already started recording English voices, and also the text localisation has been in progress, too. Normally we complete the Japanese version first, then move on to the US and EU versions, but this time there are some tasks that are happening simultaneously. So this time we're hoping to release sooner than a year later than the Japanese release.
It's amazing that we're nine years into the 21st century, and 13 games into the Final Fantasy series, and Square Enix still don't have their shit together. How is it Metal Gear Solid 4 can ship worldwide simultaneously, while Square can only offer "we're hoping to release sooner than a year later than the Japanese release"?
Hope is no guarantee (less than a year can still be 11 months!), and hope won't cut it with angry Europeans, Square Enix. Especially the ones that can't speak English, and thus can't import the US version.

With E3 just weeks away, expect to see a torrent of official announcements from publishers about what they'll be bringing to the show. One of the first out of the gate is Sega. Via Twitter.
The third-party publisher has revealed six of its E3-bound wares, confirming the expo appearance of already announced games. That includes software like Platinum Games' Bayonetta and Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol. But there are plenty of Sega titles missing from the official list, including expected showings like Aliens Vs. Predator, the first title to be released under Sega's Aliens licensing deal.
- The half-dozen titles that we're 100% sure Sega will be showing include:
- Alpha Protocol
- Bayonetta
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
- Planet 51
- The Conduit
- Vancouver 2010
That list is missing some goods from Sega we expect (or desperately hope) to see within the next year, including Phantasy Star 0, Infinite Space and Shining Force Feather for the Nintendo DS, as well as higher profile games like Aliens: Colonial Marines and whatever Sonic the Hedgehog installment Sonic Team has been burdened with.
Surely, Sega will have more than just that to show at E3 this year, including more of its Xbox Live Arcade lineup. We'll just have to wait a bit longer for the official word to come down from the mountain.

Sony has unveiled a new music visualiser program in development for PlayStation 3.
As SCEA's Rusty Buchert explains over on the US PlayStation blog, it's titled .deTuned and is the brainchild of demoscene stars .theprodukkt.
".deTuned is a bit of an odd beast that offers an abstract and surreal interactive experience like nothing else," says Rusty. It's "not exactly a game or an art piece like Linger in Shadows", but lets you "create your own visual to accompany your favorite music tracks on the XMB".
Then, using the Sixaxis, you can "manipulate the given scene by interacting with and modifying a man and his world". You can even tweak your music as you play, too.
A release date for .deTuned has yet to be announced. Here's hoping that it won't be too long before it's available to play with, and that you won't have to be on too many drugs to make playing with it worth the effort.

If you're thinking the pending digital release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is any indication that the path is clear for "Marvel vs. Capcom 3," think again. "The short answer is no, that's not any part of this deal," Capcom's Seth Killian lamented to Joystiq at a media event yesterday. "What we're hoping is that if people get really juiced about this title, and we can show Marvel that there's a lot of heat behind this, then they'll open up the door for us to do something with '3,' which is something we'd love to do." For now, licensing issues are preventing further developments.
The same is true for a North American release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. "It's a lot of 'dance with the lawyers' on that one," explained Killian. "The rights holders for Tatsunoko in Japan are one company, but in the U.S. it's ... 13 companies -- and some are very attentive and some are not." So if you've been holding your breath for this one, you might want to consider coming up for air.
Killian also told Joystiq that Capcom is considering releasing Marvel vs. Capcom 2-branded arcade sticks (* la the popular SFIV controllers). "It's a discussion ... we would love to make it happen. If you saw the 'leak' of those MadCatz sticks, that was actually B.S. That was a complete fabrication, but it's something we would love to do."

The King of Fighters XII attempts to replicate the feel of an arcade at home. The online setup has rooms where users can watch fights and discuss how Goro walked right into one of Ryo’s fireballs.
Reliable and leaky retailer Rakuten also explains the King of Fighters XII will also have community features like clan support. Clan members can post messages on a common bulletin board and issue clan challenges.
The other interesting tidbit is the King of Fighters XII more than 22 characters. That’s at least two more than the arcade version. So many fighters are sitting on the bench too. Which characters will SNK pick?

The next Call of Duty game (after Modern Warfare 2) could take place in 1960s Vietnam, if the latest round of internet rumours are true.
According to a "reliable" source wagging his or her mouth to That Videogame Blog, Activision has begun licensing music from the Vietnam War era, as well as Cuban, Soviet Union and African tunes, which could be a bit of a giveaway.
The site claims that Call of Duty: World at War's senior producer Noah Heller is involved with the project, so it looks like Treyarch is once again at the helm.
It's not the most reliable source in the world, but the news is backed up slightly by Treyarch's statement that it's "glad we were able to end [WWII]" in World at War.
We'll let you know if Activision has anything to say.

Joystiq reported back in April that Patapon 2's release would be a UMD-less affair, and now it's officially here. The followup game is now available as a digital download on the PSN, and as a redemption code voucher in retail locations. The sans-UMD format is a United States only test for Sony, and certainly leads us to wonder if that UMD-less PSP could possibly, potentially be in the works. The $19.99 title is available today, disc-less PSP available in your wildest dreams.

Capcom is going to make its PlayStation Network presence a lot more robust as it begins releasing ports of PS1 titles and providing downloadable versions of previous PSP titles throughout the year. We spoke with Capcom's Chris Kramer, who let us know that the company would be listening to what the community wants and figuring out internally what titles to release -- but don't expect any of them to involve licensing shenanigans along the lines of Marvel vs. Capcom.
"We'll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title," Kramer said. "We're thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we're looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. Ultimately we're looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months."
