While Microsoft often touts the Xbox 360's impressive attach rate -- the number of games sold per console -- Sony isn't sitting on its laurels. According to recent Sony comments to Gamasutra, the PS3 has a higher attach rate than the Xbox 360 when it comes to multiplatform titles. So ... what does that mean?
Basically, the claim is that many multiplatform games sell to a higher percentage of PS3 owners than Xbox 360 owners. In other words, the 402,919 copies of Street Fighter IV sold on PS3 represents a larger percentage of its installed base than the 446,435 sold on Xbox 360. Thus, the attach rate for the PS3 version is higher, even though it's sold fewer copies. Sony also cites Metacritic data in this campaign, noting that PS3 has a higher percentage (there's that word again) of titles with a score of 80 or higher than Xbox 360.
The elephant in the room, of course: Microsoft's console has a larger installed base -- by about 7 million or so -- and a larger software library, tilting the odd percentage game in Sony's favor. There's a valid point to be made here, specifically that certain multiplatform game sales are faring very well on PS3 despite the console's smaller installed base. You just have to unwind the spin to find it

SingStar fans will have even more reason to sing tomorrow, as SingStar patch 3.01 brings more than 30 trophies to Sony's karaoke title, which they'll soon be able to earn using only their voice.
Tomorrow sees the release of the 3.01 patch for SingStar, an automatic free update to the title that adds PlayStation 3 trophies to the list of reasons to sprain your voice trying to sing along to "I Believe in a Thing Called Love."
You might want to take it easy on your pipes, however, as another new feature arrives on April 22nd - voice control. Now, rather than always needing to keep a controller handy, you'll be able to simply tell the game which song you'd like to sing, hoping it understands what you are saying.
I actually picked up SingStar for the PlayStation 3 this past weekend for some reason, and was wondering what motivation I was really being given to torture my cats with my voice. Trophies should fill that role nicely.

Confirming earlier online rumours, Sony Computer Entertainment of America senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold has stated that that the upcoming PlayStation Portable title Patapon 2 will be sold in a digital format.
In a statement received by GamesIndustry.biz, Seybold called the release a "one time test case as we continue to explore consumer preference for digital content."
Seybold also solidified Sony's continued support of the UMD format, stating that "We remain focused on providing superior games and entertainment experiences in both the UMD and digital formats and are working closely with our partners to deliver the best PSP line up in our history."
Several people, including Acclaim's David Perry, have theorised that this "test case" may solidify previous rumours that Sony's next portable gaming device may not include a UMD drive, relying exclusively on digital delivery.
Patapon 2 will be released on May 5, as a retail download voucher and digitally through the PlayStation Store.

News/release from Light_AleX
Clarification of the use of this application
Let's create a situation shall we?
Under NORMAL circumstances
1. I create an account for the US PlayStation Store.
2. I create an account for the EUROPE PlayStation Store.
3. I see "Patapon 2" available on the EU PlayStation Store.
4. However, I have already bought things on the US PlayStation Store.
To buy and play "Patapon 2 (EU)", I would have to do the following.
1. Connect to US PlayStation Store.
2. Deactivate system for GAME content.
3. Delete account on PSP and login with the EU account.
4. Activate system for "Patapon 2".
5. Play games.
To switch back, I would have to reverse the above process and end up limited again to my US games.
The above process would waste a LOT of time due to:
A - Requires WiFi access.
B - The length of the process.
C - Would be terribly confusing during multi-region situations.
Now, with PSN License Manager 0.17, you can remove all the hassle.
This is some little project that just makes life so much easier.
For people who buy PSN games from many regions.
This allows people who buy PSN games from many regions without being forced to activate and deactivate their PSPs again and again just to switch from one game to another.
It can do the following:
Backup your PSN license.
Restore your PSN license.
Delete the backup license on the memory stick.
Toggle USB Mass Storage.
Licenses can only be used on ONE PSP so don't think this is a piracy helper.
TESTED ON 5.00M33-6
LEDA Installed.
1.50 Kernel Not Installed - However, it shouldn't be a conflict as it runs in 5.XX kernel.
Please read readme before installing and use at your own risk.
Some more little functions may be added in the future.
Minor update:
-0.17
--Added some information before files are written.
--Toggle USB Added to allow direct access to memory stick immediately after backup without exiting to the XMB.

God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen has said that the complexity of PS3 development forced his team to "re-think things", but backs Sony's decision to go with the more complicated hardware.
Speaking about statements made by Sony boss Kaz Hirai, that insinuated Sony intentionally made PS3 hard to develop for, Asmussen said: "From my perspective he is essentially saying that Sony made the conscious decision to make the PS3 as powerful as possible, and if that meant it was going to be a beast to program for, 'so be it'."
He continued: "In my opinion, Sony has always been about pushing the industry forward - evolving it. In order to harness new technology fully, it might be necessary to evolve our development techniques as well.
"What may seem really complex right now, may become the standard in a couple of years. The programmers in my studio are super sharp guys and when the PS3 first came out they were forced to rethink things a bit. But now they have a really firm grasp on the system. Basically, it is just about evolving your skills right? That's a big part about making games in general.
"I seem to remember one time when people complained that the PS2 was hard to program for... We were able to do some pretty cool things on that system deep within its lifecycle."

Look around hard enough, and you may find one of the five people who are still holding out for Devil May Cry's PSP installment. If you do find an example of this rare breed, let them know that the game has officially been canceled.
This week's Famitsu let the news be known quietly, by simply removing the game from its release list and, in a special note section below the list, marking that the game has been canned.
Famitsu's release list has, on occasion, been wrong about such cancellations, but we're inclined to believe this one.

David Reeves is ending his 14 year tenure at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, stepping down from his position of President and CEO to be replaced by Andrew House.
Reeves' started at SCEE in 1995, and was appointed President and CEO in 2003, since when he's been a highly visible and vocal figurehead for the company. "It has been a wonderful ride with PlayStation," said Reeves, before going on to deliver an eccentric outline of his expectations for life post-Sony.
"I am going to spend my time now trying to repay society for all I have taken from it," he said, continuing, "If your children are having physics lessons at the local school or wondering why their ski instructor is very elderly, your car mechanic has a bad back, or the social worker keeps bringing you PSP games, then it could just be me!"
Taking Reeves' place will be Andrew House, a long time employee of SCEE who departs his most recent post of Sony Corporation's Chief Marketing Officer, a position he took up having spent a long spell with the PlayStation business.
"I'm very happy to welcome Andrew back to the PlayStation business and to work closely with him again" said Sony Computer Entertainment's Kaz Hirai. "I'm confident that the skills and expertise Andy has gained over the years working as Sony's CMO will contribute enormously in leading the PlayStation business in Europe/PAL countries and regions and to bring new initiatives in managing the business in the coming networked era."

Square Enix has confirmed to Eurogamer that Final Fantasy XIII has been given a winter 2009 date in Japan.
That date was pictured at the end of the PS3 FFXIII demo, which is included in the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - due out tomorrow in Japan and in June in North America.
However, European dates for both Advent Children and Final Fantasy XIII are still to be confirmed, the publisher told us this morning.
The demo, according to a Famitsu preview (read by Gamezine, lasts for over an hour and lets players control characters Snow and Lightning. Perhaps they listen to Earth, Wind and Fire.
Square Enix also had nothing to say about a trademark filing for Front Mission Evolved, spotted by a keen-eyed Kotaku.
Front Mission is a strategy series in which robots beat each other up. Evolved could be a series reboot, a revamped instalment for XBLA or PSN, or simply one of the many Japanese releases heading West. [Or just a random trademark. - Ed]

If you've been dying to get your hands on Fat Princess, the wait is almost over. Titan Studios will be hosting a beta for players to get in, play, and give feedback on their experience with the team-based multiplayer battle.
Want to be a part of it? Well, you have two options.
Right now, the PlayStation Blog is hosting a Facebook contest to dole out the 250 beta codes that it has. Be one of the first 250 fans to post a photo on Facebook of yourself eating cake with PlayStation paraphernalia in the image and you'll get a code when the beta is ready.
Of course, IGN is not about to miss out on helping you get into the game. Soon -- incredibly soon -- we're going to be hosting our own Fat Princess beta code giveaway. It's going to be open to U.S. PlayStation accounts only; IGN Insiders only; and although we have more codes than the PlayStation Blog (suck it, Rubenstein), the freebies will be gone in a flash. So, keep your eyes peeled in the very near future for your chance to get in on the fat fun.

Eidos Montreal has teased its next project on its official site, and the font delivering the message has led to speculation that the unannounced game could be Thief 4.
Eidos Montreal is currently at work on Deus Ex 3, the latest instalment in the espionage tinged first person series that's been shrouded in an appropriate level of mystery, with few details having made it beyond the studio walls.
A post on the developer's official site says the studio's next project will be revealed soon, employing a font familiar to fans of the Thief series. Scant details indeed, but enough to stir forums into a speculating frenzy.
The Thief games are held in high regard, with the last instalment, Deadly Shadows, receiving an 8.8 upon review back in 2004.
No official word has come from Eidos on what the Montreal studios' next game is – but expect more concrete details soon.

Several upcoming PlayStation Network games were announced in February and today Zen Studios revealed a little more information on one of those titles: Zen Pinball. From the makers of Xbox Live Arcade's Pinball FX, Zen Pinball brings the silver ball to the PSN for the first time along with head-to-head online bouts and multi-day worldwide tournaments.
"The PlayStation Network has a wide variety of great game offerings but it's lacking a classic arcade pinball game like Zen Pinball," said Zsolt Kigyossy, managing director for Zen Studios. "This is a title for everyone's game library, as Zen Pinball combines fast paced action and realistic graphics with the thrills of traditional pinball."
Zen Studios claims its latest pinball game will set a new standard for realistic ball physics. In addition to the traditional gameplay aiming for high scores there will also be specific missions for the player to complete. Four tables will be included in the initial download, with more available as DLC after launch.
