PS3 scene member SKFU is known for his habit of sniffing and manipulating networks packets (in particular he likes to tinker the stuff Sony doesn’t necessarily want you to see when communications happen between your home network and the PSN). Today he spotted some content on the PSN that seems to be test data for the upcoming PS4.
Using what is apparently a private tools of his (interestingly named “psnsss” a.k.a. PSN Store Secrets Search), SKFU has found some test products related to the PS4, on the PSN. He revealed his findings with a simple screenshot that can be found below.
From what I can see on the screenshot, the test data is not directly available on the regular “retail” PSN servers, but on the servers used by Sony internally for development or for QA (internal beta tests, if you prefer): this is what the “Environment” values seem to imply in SKFU’s screenshot below. For more details you can check the ps3devwiki here, but basically everything starting with a “D” (e.g. D1-NP) in that list is an internal development server, and everything starting with a Q is a QA server. I am not sure what “E” stands for.
The test data itself is not revealing much. Cryptic product IDs and generic product names such as “Storefront inclusion test – Game PS4 product” or “Game Franchise with PS4 representative”, or again “Orbis test data”. Although I must say I like the one product that contains the string “WOLO” in it
More interesting to me is the fact that people like SKFU seem to have access to some of Sony’s internal PSN servers, somehow. Well, I’m sure this is no news to the people who have been deeply involved in the PS3 scene, but it is to me, and I think it’s pretty badass!
Are you excited about the upcoming PS4?

via http://wololo.net/2013/04/29/vhbl-th...ase-postponed/
We’ve mentioned recently that The Z is in possession of a PSP user mode exploit in an undisclosed game, and that he has a VHBL port ready for the game. A few days ago, The Z shared some good and some bad news…
VHBL is a PSP homebrew loader for the Playstation Vita, a tool that allows you to run PSP homebrews inside the PS Vita’s playstation emulator. VHBL has the particularity to only require a psp user mode exploit to run, and was designed to be as easy as possible to port, but its low entry bar also comes with limitations (it will only run psp homebrews, not plugins or isos).
The Z had announced a few weeks ago that he has a running port of VHBL, and he confirmed recently that his port is complete, and could be released any time soon.
Sadly, the PSP game he uses as a vector for his exploit is only available in EU stores (and Australia), in particular it is not available in the US or in JP. This means that only people with an account in a European location would be able to use this exploit. It’s relatively easy to set up an account in another location and to buy PSN credits, but Sony has made it a pain to switch between accounts on the Vita.
The Z announced he would probably release his port for a future Vita firmware (not 2.1x), depending on the importance of releasing a VHBL port at the time (which I understand as: if something better comes up, such as a new release of CEF, he will probably not bother)

We're moving ever closer to the next-gen era where console games will be available to buy via digital delivery, day and date with the retail disc versions, but in the meantime it's Sony that is leading the charge in providing timely PSN releases of many of the latest PlayStation 3 titles. They're not cheap and you can't resell them, but download titles do offer up the enticing possibility of running your games entirely from hard drive, divorced completely from the much slower Blu-ray optical drive. So the question is, do PSN downloads provide a superior experience to traditional disc-based gameplay? It's a topic that often comes up during our Face-Off coverage. Xbox 360 lets gamers download their discs to hard drive, at the very least providing some kind of loading time advantage - but to be honest, it doesn't offer much else beyond silencing the noisy DVD drive. Meanwhile, PS3 owners are very much at the whims of the developer as to whether or not data installs to the hard drive, with only a tiny fraction of titles supporting optional installs. Utilising digital downloads from PSN returns the choice to the user but more than that, PS3 gamers can use any hard drives they want, even allowing for the introduction of solid state media - SSDs - for the very fastest possible performance. But what does that that extra performance actually translate into during gameplay? Beyond loading times, do we see any improvements to frame-rates, geometry or texture pop-in by embracing digital delivery? We decided to find out, utilising our available library of PlayStation Plus "instant game collection" titles, compared against the retail disc versions of the same game. Our focus titles are Mass Effect 3, Sleeping Dogs, Mortal Kombat and MotorStorm Apocalypse - a decent range of games that should allow us to test both loading times and in-game asset streaming.

Sony has sent out invitations to its Playstation E3 2013 press event, confirming it will join Microsoft in showing off its wares a day ahead of the industry expo in Los Angeles.
The conference takes place on June 10th at 6pm Pacific, just hours after Microsoft’s event takes place at 10am that morning. While the firm didn’t go into details, it will likely show off a mixed bag of upcoming titles for PS4, PS3 and Vita.
Sony livestreamed their showcase in 2012, but no word yet on whether the company plans to do so again this year.
Nintendo, the other member of the big three, announced it would be bowing out of the pre-E3 festivities – instead saving the would-be reveals for its Nintendo Direct events.

NetherRealm Studios has revealed that Batgirl will be one of Injustice: Gods Among Us' four planned DLC characters. The announcement was accompanied by an admission that "the bat's out of the bag," referencing the fact that a listing for Batgirl had onto the Xbox Live Marketplace hours beforehand.
We're assuming that this is the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl, on account of her flowing red hair and the fact that Gordon is the current Batgirl of the New 52 mythos. We're not really sure what's up with her outfit, or the metal clubs attached to her arms, but we figure we'll learn more as gameplay footage is released next week. No word yet on when Batgirl wil be available.

As we reach the end of the current-gen console era, it's safe to say that it is the difficult, flawed, but ambitious PlayStation 3 that has offered up the most technologically advanced console games of the age. The complex hardware set-up may have banjaxed even the best third-party developers in its early years, but PS3 owners have been spoiled by a range of state-of-the-art gaming epics from Sony's own in-house studios - foremost amongst them, God of War creator Sony Santa Monica.God of War 3 was a watershed moment in the history of the PlayStation 3. At the time, few believed that Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2 could be matched or even bettered in terms of sheer technological accomplishment, but Kratos' PS3 debut raised the stakes still further. The third game's legendary titan boss set-pieces looked and played with an almost CG-like level of polish, astonishing many with its breathtaking per-pixel lighting, rich detailing and pristine motion blur effects. The sheer scale of ambition on display here was simply breathtaking and even today, God of War 3 ranks as one of the best platform exclusives on the market. The evolution of God of War 3 - especially from its E3 2009 debut to its March release the following year - remains one of the most dramatic transformations we've seen from preview code to release, and stands as testament to a remarkable era where PS3 game development progressed in colossal leaps and bounds. But understandably, the Sony Santa Monica team look back on this time a little more pragmatically."After E3 we had a big back-log of optimisation opportunities and ideas that we wanted to try, and optimisation finally became one of our primary foci. We also doubled the graphics engineering team just around E3," recalls Santa Monica Studio's graphics engineer Cedric Perthuis.Fellow graphics engineer Ben Diamand also confirms it was a hectic spell for the studio after the unveiling, and many tweaks in the build-up to the game's release came down to the wire. "There were so many major technical improvements that went in between E3 and shipping," he says. "Morphological anti-aliasing (MLAA) got added which improved edges dramatically and saved substantial amounts of frame-rate."The MLAA technology represented a break-through for developers at the time. Developed by SCEE's own Advanced Technology Group (ATG), it's now a popular edge-detection process that can cost-effectively remove jagged edges from each frame - one of a range of GPU tasks that were hived off to the Cell processor's surrounding Synergistic Processing Units (SPUs). Crucially, for Santa Monica Studio's effects artists, this freed up processing cycles and allowed them to add to the spectacle in other ways.

Eve-themed shooter Dust 514 finally has a release date on PS3.
The CCP Games title will be available to download for free on May 14th. It will be supported by microtransactions, although its most alluring feature is undoubtedly its integration with PC MMO behemoth EVE Online.
“Reaching this point has required many years, hundreds of CCP employees, and the engagement of millions of players who contributed fantastic feedback during the beta process,” CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson stated.
“Now we start the real journey, which, decades from now, we will look back on with astonishment at all we accomplished. The EVE Universe will outlive us all.”
CCP has promised to support the game “for years to come” although whether that will involve growth beyond the PS3 remains unclear for the time being.

We speak to Shuhei Yoshida on a Friday evening as he sits in his office on the 16th floor of Sony’s corporate headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The office working environment changed dramatically when the company relocated from Aoyama, Tokyo, to this building a couple of years ago. The 1,000 or so employees of SCEI, which has led PS4’s development, were spread across 17 floors in the old building, but are now crammed into just two, with roughly 500 to a floor. Each room feels as big as a football field, with no high partitions, and you can see from end to end.Yoshida doesn’t mind the layout feeling crammed. He found it a chore to take the stairs and elevators between all those floors in the old building anyway. The new setup is more efficient – he can walk the floor and have quick chats with numerous different people. The new office also gives SCEI better access to other parts of the company. “We are very popular here,” says Yoshida proudly. “Many different Sony groups and people want to work with us, so that’s great. It helps with collaboration.” And nothing pleases Shuhei Yoshida more than collaboration. For him, it’s at the heart of the whole PS4 project. Can you take us back to the beginnings of PS4 – was there a specific decision made that started that process, or a person who decided it was time to start that process? As soon as we launch a platform we have small number of tech people move on to planning for the next. So I’m sure it was the same for PS3. You know PS3 is now [on sale since] 2006 so as soon as it launched I’m sure some parts of the company, especially those hardware people who work in R&D and the semi-conductor [area] must have started the R&D effort. And 2008, as Mark mentioned in the New York event, was the time when the initial project was formed, not by just the R&D people but including different parts of the larger, more cross-sectional team.Up to PS3, the development was pretty much done by the hardware group in Tokyo. And the keys had been given [to us, after that project], so to speak. So it was Kaz who succeeded Kutaragi-san in 2006, who decided the process had to change. And he trusted the hardware team here to start involving the software team of Worldwide Studios. That was about the time we started another project, PS Vita, as well. So PS Vita was a shorter project compared to PS4 but Mark [Cerny], both Mark and Worldwide Studios were involved in both projects and we worked on both projects simultaneously.

Square-Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be opening its servers to the general public this summer. The third phase of the closed beta will be taking place this June, with the full version of the game launching on PS3 and PC shortly after. The remade MMOG is coming as a result of the largely negative reaction to FFXIV’s original launch back in 2010. Complaints included boring, wrote gameplay and a generally buggy experience. In response to criticisms, Sony president Yoichi Wada apologized for the state of FFXIV and stated that the reputation of the Final Fantasy series had been “greatly damaged” as a result.

The Infernal Helm.
Pre-order Diablo 3 on PlayStation 3 and you'll get the Infernal Helm, which grants an experience point boost, Blizzard has announced. Each of the game's five classes can wear it.
Certain retailers will also offer limited-edition pre-order bonuses, Blizzard said, and these will be announced soon. Diablo 3 carries a suggested retail price of £49.99 in the UK.
Blizzard announced Diablo 3 for PlayStation at Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal event in New York earlier this year.
It's due out on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4, the latter of which is expected to launch this Christmas.
Diablo 3 on console has four-player local co-op on a single screen, with controls and a user interface optimised for console play.
What it doesn't have, though, is the PC version's Auction House. Instead there will menu-driven item trading. You can play both offline and online.
The action role-playing game launched on PC and Mac on 15th May 2012 and in 24 hours became the fastest-selling PC game of all time. As of 31st December 2012, Diablo 3 had sold over 12 million copies.

Minecraft-esque survival RPG Terraria will finally launch for PlayStation 3 in Europe on 15th May, publisher 505 Games has announced. The PlayStation Store download will be priced £11.99/€14.99.Originally created for PC, console versions of Terraria were recently released on Xbox 360 worldwide and PS3 in North America. The European PS3 version did not arrive on schedule, however, and no reason was given its delay."For all those Terraria fans wondering where the EU PS3 version is, we're truly gutted that the game couldn't come out with the other versions," producer David Welch explained last month when announcing the game's upcoming PlayStation Vita port. "We're in submission now and will release very soon."There's no word yet on when the Vita version will launch, 505 Games told Eurogamer.
