I must say this is one game that looks killer and is on the top of my PSP games buying list, heres the news from Joystiq:
SOE's upcoming Field Commander title for the PSP--a strategic response to Nintendo's Advance Wars series on their line of handhelds--isn't ashamed of noting its turn-based influence.
Or, at least, Clint Worley (the game's producer), isn't ashamed to say so. He's also quick to cite Commander's more "mature" design--for an older audience that might not appreciate Wars' cartoony characters and storyline--as well as the mini-episodic nature of each mission from the single-player campaign that has something to do with watching G.I. Joe growing up. (Cobraaaaa... la-la-la-la-la-la! Er, we mean... yo, Joe?)
There was also some chitchat concerning new IPs, working in 3D, and offering the ability to layer different types of units in the same place, but all that Joe talk got us to wondering why no one's picked up that game license like they've done for the Transformers and that series' supposed new movie. At least PSP owners have one more strategy RPG to look forward to after the potential disaster that was the only-one-review title (as of right now) Generation of Chaos. Judging by that game's sole review score, a faithful copy of Advance Wars could be a very good thing.
Check out the great screens via comments.

Source Gamesindustry
As part of plans to secure an even stronger foothold in the European market, high street retailer GameStop has slashed the price of the PlayStation Portable Giga Pack in its Irish stores.
The Giga Pack, which includes a PSP, stand, USB cable and 1GB Memory Stick, officially retails for GBP 214.99, or EURO 309.99.
However, GameStop is now offering the pack for GBP 189.99 (around EURO 275) in Northern Ireland. Stores in the Republic of Ireland are selling the pack for EURO 289 (just under GBP 200).
According to a Sony spokesperson, the price cut is not the result of a directive from SCEE, but simply a promotional activity by GameStop. "This is an initiative in Eire only, and it appears to be retail led and not through SCEE," the spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz.
It remains to be seen whether GameStop's move will kick off a price war amongst Irish retailers. At the time of writing, GAME stores in the territory were still selling the Giga Pack for GBP 214.99 and EURO 309.99.
However, the initiative is certainly an aggressive move on the part of GameStop, and serves as further evidence of the retail chain's eagerness to get a solid foothold in Europe.
GameStop, which is the largest gaming retail chain in the USA, made its move into Ireland in 2003 with the purchase of a controlling share in Gamesworld. There are now more than 30 GameStop stores in the territory.

New prerelease of PSP radio:
Raf posted this news on his forum:
<blockquote>New version is out: 0.38.06.
This is really a WIP version, please don't complain if it doesn't work for you. It's more of a test build. I really need feedback from users willing to try it.
This release is divided in two:
-There's a static release (static means its a monolithic application, like it's always been until now). The main difference is that this version is 100% user-mode code, and to the point that it doesn't even try to load the network or usb drivers (so it won't have network/usb under f/w < 2).
What I need to know is if this version provides network/usb to eloader users. (Also if it works on f/w 2.6)
-Then, there's the dynamic release (dynamic means modular, plugin based, based on PRXs [like dll's for PSP]). This is the kind of release I expect to keep on publishing from now on, but many things changed, and needs to be tested heavily. Under f/w 1.5 (or lower), this release has an EBOOT.PBP file which is really a loader. It loads all needed drivers, then starts the application. The UIs have also been converted to plugins. I want to start writing more plugins, and also allow more developers to create their own plugins). The static version won't be able to take advantage of any of this.
This release (dynamic) will only (currently) run on 1.5 or lower. But still, feel free to test it with other f/w releases, loaders.
Other than this, there's no other new features or bug fixes(other than the home button exit option always working) in this release. So if you're not into testing, then please stick to the latest official/unstable release. Thanks!
Raf.
What's new:
0.38.06 (r881) (2006-03-02)
NEW FEATURES
(raf) Core/All: Added plugin system - this will only currently work under f/w 1.5. UIs have been converted to PRXs, as well as PSPRadio. A Loader starts PSPRadio now (on 1.5) (r817-861).
(raf) All: Reorganized hierarchy of files. And enchanced build system.
(raf) Now build generates dynamic and static releases. The dynamic release will currently only work with f/w 1.5 The static release (won't support plugins) should work on all f/w's but won't attempt loading usb/wifi drivers, so it won't have networking/usb unless provided by a loader (needs to be tested under eloader).
BUG FIXES
(raf) Using the home menu option to exit should always exit pspradio (even if it crashed) now. *update*</blockquote>

<blockquote>iTunes RSS Server
iTunes RSS Server is a web server software to read your iTunes Music Library.xml and publish the playlists (including Smart Playlists) as RSS 2.0 Podcast feed. It handles MP3 and AAC files as well as server media files upon byte-range requests.
It allows neat stuff like "listnening to your iTunes@home from PSP remotely".
Features
Run as a web server, accepting port 8080 requests (configurable per --port option)
Publish RSS 2.0 feeds with rss:enclosure that PSP/iTunes can subscribe (PSP firmware 2.60 required)
Run both on Windows XP and Mac OSX
Support smart playlist
Support on-demand reloading of Music Library (you don't have to restart the server when you update iTunes library)
Publish playlists with MP3/AAC/MP4 files (including Video)
Automatically exclude Video and DRMed AAC files for requests from PSP
Extract album artwork and embed as rss:image
Serve media files streaming per byte-range requests (PSP RSSchannel requires)
Support htpasswd based HTTP Basic Authenticatoin (--passwd /path/to/.htpasswd)
Install
Windows XP
Download itunes-rss-server.exe from SVN repository and double-click to run it.
If you have ActivePerl? and other PPM/CPAN modules to install, you can checkout SVN repository and run itunes-rss-sever.pl as well.
Mac OSX
svn checkout http://svn.bulknews.net/repos/tricks...es-rss-server/ and run itunes-rss-server.pl. You'd need recent perl and other CPAN modules to run.
How-to
Run the itunes-rss-server and open http://localhost:8080/ with your favourite browser. You'll get a screen that has a list of your playlists and RSS feeds. For PSP, connect to the Wi-Fi network and open http://{Your PC's IP}:8080/ and subscribe to the RSS feed. Then go to "RSS Channel" and enjoy streaming the music. </blockquote>

With just one day remaining before the end of Sony's invite-only "Destination PlayStation" event in Miami, video game industry insiders at the event remain "very much in the dark" about Sony's launch plans for the PlayStation 3 console, reported Consumer Electronics Daily.
This could be interpreted as another data point supporting the theory that the PS3's launch schedule has slipped. Or it could just be all part of a master plan to catch the world by surprise with a surprise unveiling. Either way, our impatience grows.

The multi-tasking iR Shell is updated to v1.1 with the following additional enhancements.
1. A MP3 player plugin is added which allows MP3 to be played back along with your UMD game/homebrew music.
- Support playback list. To construct playback list, use CIRCLE key to highlight music tracks. Maximum playlist size is 10 and the playlist entries should reside in the same directory.
- Repeat single track or repeat the whole playlist.
- Playback control including pause, resume, stop, next track, previous track, volume up and down. Pls note that the MP3 volume control is independent of your PSP's hardware volume button. This will be useful to adjust the MP3 volume without changing your game/homebrew's original music/sound volume. To change the volume of your UMD game/homebrew, use the hardware volume buttons.
2. Data, time & battery info added.
3. Allows CPU speed change. This will be essential for MP3 playback, as some games may experience slowdown if CPU running at stock speed (use Left Trigger + Start). Recommended setting speed to 333 for MP3 playback with game/homebrew running. Note: CPU clock speed selection should be made before launching game/homebrew.
4. APP View (Application view) now supports hidden corruption icon naming.
5. The Pronto Code remote database has been cleaned up. Visit my homepage (http://www.ahman.co.nr) to download an updated version.
Button Config:
1. iR Shell Control:
Arrow Keys (Digital Pad): Menu navigation
Triangle: Go to parent directory.
Square: View toggle. Allow you to choose application view, RDF view or directory view.
Cross: Item selection
Analog pad left: Launch UMD
Analog pad right: Launch homebrew from /PSP/GAME/HOMEBREW/EBOOT.PBP
Analog pad up: USB On/Off toggle
Analog pad down: Quit iR Shell
Left Trigger + Right Trigger: Restart iR Shell
Left Trigger + Select: Task switch between the launched app and iR Shell
Left Trigger + Start: CPU speed toggle between 222, 266 & 333
Note button: Take snapshot (photos are placed under /PSP/SNAPSHOT)
Select button: Battery Information
Start button: Help message
2. MP3 Player
Right Trigger + Triangle: Shortcut to browse /PSP/MUSIC directory
Circle: Mark item for Playback List (max playback list size: 10)
Right Trigger + Square: Stop playback
Right Trigger + Cross: Playback Pause/Resume
Right Trigger + Right Arrow: Next MP3 Track
Right Trigger + Left Arrow: Previous MP3 Track
