Deniska posted this update of news about his great homebrew tyrian style 2D shooter.
<blockquote>The new version is comming out soon...
Changes:
- added explosions when plane is hit
- increased the transparency level during the invinsibility period
- new enemy ( GROUNDER ) added.
sample definition:
00100|E|GROUNDER|200
200 represent the X-coordinate
- added all sprites to "pre-loader" about 10 sprites were missing in v.8, and that cause minor hickups during the inital run of the levels.
- slightly changed AI and atacking patterns of some enemies
- changed the shield size for the plane to smaller and more realistic size..
- currently working on a new level (level 4)
Let me know if someone wants to contribute to the development - I need a person with strong photoshop skills to create more enemy sprites and backgrounds...as wells as create levels data.</blockquote>

Sony may be ready to admit that the launch of its next-gen console, PlayStation 3, will be delayed.
An unnamed Sony spokesperson has admitted that problems finalising the specs of Blu-ray - the new media format that PS3 will use - could well cause the console to miss its predicted May launch.
Rumours have been circulating for some time about a possible PS3 delay but Sony has always remained adamant that it would be ready for a spring release.
"Sony has not begun taking orders yet, which means it would be difficult for the company to begin sales in May," said Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Japanese games magazine Famitsu.
If this is true it should be interesting to see how long Sony holds out before making an official announcement about a change of date.
PlayStation 3 is still awaiting an official UK release date

Id's Todd Hollenshead says unnamed internal project will be released on three platforms; 360 to be new Wolfenstein's "primary platform."
Long considered one of the last bastions of hardcore PC gaming, id Software appears to have jumped on the next-gen console wagon with both feet. In an interview with Worthplaying, id CEO Todd Hollenshead said that the developer's next in-house project is being prepped for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, as well as the PC.
"We're looking at PS3, 360, and PC for our internal project," he told the site, "but it's too early to guess on whether we'll have all of those ready to go at the same time. It would be nice if it works out where the launch is simultaneous, but I don't know if that's feasible."
No release window for the unnamed game, which remains top secret, has been announced. However, Hollenshead said that it "is the main focus of the development team at id...I'm not sure when we'll begin discussing details of the new IP, but it will be the next game developed entirely by id, and it WILL be cool." (Emphasis in the original.)
As for other games based on id properties, Hollenshead told Worthplaying that the upcoming Return to Castle Wolfenstein game is being designed with the Xbox 360 foremost in mind. "The next Wolf[enstein] game is using the 360 as its primary development platform but will be released on the PC as well." Revealed at last year's X05 event, the game is currently in development at Raven Software, which developed Quake 4 for the Xbox 360 and the PC under id's supervision.
Hollenshead also said that id was pleased with the critically-drubbed film version of its best-selling Doom series. He also chimed in on what he thought the next id-inspired big-screen offering should be. "The next movie deal that I want to focus on is Wolfenstein," he said. "I think it could make a great film. It's been optioned previously, but now we have the rights back again. I'm hoping that once the game development gets some exposure that interest in Hollywood will perk up."

February 28th, 2006, 20:46 Posted By: wraggster
Sony has announced that its Blu-Ray next-generation DVD format will launch in North America on May 23rd, giving a clear timeline for the first time for the arrival of the media format which will be used by the PlayStation 3.
Eight Blu-Ray titles will launch on that date from Sony's two major film studios, Sony Pictures and MGM, namely 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight's Tale, The Last Waltz, Resident Evil Apocalypse and XXX.
A further set of titles will appear on June 13th - with Kung Fu Hustle, Legends of the Fall, Robocop, Stealth, Species, SWAT and Terminator joining the original launch titles on the shelves.
However, the initial choice available to consumers in terms of what to play their shiny new high definition movies on will be very limited - with only one player, Samsung's costly BD-P1000, set to ship for the May 23rd launch. Further players will appear from Sony and Pioneer shortly after launch.
Sony also today announced that it is to merge its optical drive business, of which the Blu-Ray drive business is a part, with NEC's optical drive business, forming a joint venture. While in some quarters this is being seen as a move designed to hedge the company's bets in case HD-DVD becomes the dominant standard - as NEC is a key supporter of HD-DVD - it's being interpreted elsewhere as a victory for Blu-Ray, since Sony will hold a 55% stake in the new venture and it will be headed up by a Sony executive.
In terms of software pricing, Sony plans to sell new Blu-Ray titles wholesale into retail at $23.95, with back catalogue titles being sold wholesale at $17.95 - which will probably translate as around $29.95 and $24.95 respectively on the price tags for consumers.
The big question, of course, is what this all means for the launch of the PlayStation 3, which will use a Blu-Ray drive and is expected to act as a "Trojan horse" to drive uptake of the format among consumers.
Several media outlets have recently reported on comments from an unnamed Sony source, who was cited on the BBC News website some weeks ago as saying that the console's launch could be delayed due to a hold-up in agreeing final specification details for Blu-Ray discs.
The fact that players and discs are now slated to appear in mid-May seems to suggest that these hurdles have now been overcome - although a launch for the PS3 in the planned Spring timeframe still looks highly unlikely given that no details of any such launch have yet been shared with consumers or with the retail channel.

71M, in cooperation with RK Digital.net, Heavy.com and Newgrounds.com is proud to present the PSP Flash Player!
The current version supports most action script through version 7 and runs on 1.5 only. We are currently testing for 2.x PSPs and will announce when it is working on 2.x firmwares. If someone gets it working, be sure to let us know.
Source will be released in a couple of days once we get it all cleaned up.
It is still a little bit buggy on flash files which use MP3 sound. PCM sound is fully supported.
MP3 decoding just eats up too much memory right now when decoding the mp3 stream to a raw sound stream so we ask for your paitence.
Also, loading times are being worked on. Basically everything needs to be converted and cached in memory (of which there is not alot available) and this takes a little while.
Consider the current release a "proof of concept" release. Fully functional (smooth video) with a few glitches.
Instructions:
Decompress the downloaded file to your x:\PSP\GAME folder. Flash files can be placed anywhere on your MS. Use the included file browser to locate the flash file you want to view, highlight it, and hit X.

This doesn't come as a huge surprise given SanDisk's Memory Stick Duo/PRO Duo products have typically been cheaper than Sony's, but they have also announced a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo.
According to the press release, this one will be available for a retail price of $239.99 in March. Not only is that cheaper than Sony's offering, it's sooner.
I guess it's also worth pointing out that these cards are in SanDisk's "Ultra II" line, which is geared towards professional photographers. There's a chance SanDisk may also introduce a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo in their "normal" line. SanDisk's current price structure indicates their "normal" sticks are, on the average, 25% cheaper than their Ultra II sticks -- if we apply the same pricing system in this situation, a "normal" SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo should go for something like like $179.99.
Competition is good eh, now which would you choose out of the 4GB Memory card, Datels 4gb Hard Drive and the Neo5in1 4GB ?

A rumour from Gamespot:
<blockquote>What we heard: Ever since CES in January, rumors have been circulating that Microsoft may soon enter the handheld market. Most of these sprang from a BusinessWeek article, which cited an anonymous source inside the Redmond, Washington-based software colossus as "working on plans to develop its own portable digital media device to rival the iPod." Speaking hypothetically, Xbox marketing chief Peter Moore said any such device would also have gaming functionality. "It can't just be our version of the iPod," he told the magazine.
At the same time, one of Microsoft's signature teaser Web sites sprouted up at the URL www.origamiproject.com. Via some slick flash animation, the site asks visitors "Do you know me?" "Do you know what I can do?" "Do you know where I can go?" It then promises that, "You will ... Learn more on 3.2.06."
Given the looming launch of Windows Vista, many assumed the site was part of the effort to help hype Microsoft's new PC operating system. However, over the weekend, reports surfaced that Project Origami is actually the code name for a new portable that combines media-player and PC functionality.
The evidence came in the form of a video clip that was uncovered on the Web site for the film-production company Digital Kitchen. The clip, which has since been taken down, showed a "concept device ... noticeably larger than the iPod and somewhat bigger than Sony's PlayStation Portable," according to the Post-Intelligencer. The video also "shows people using the device not only as a music player, but also as a miniature personal computer for accessing the Internet, sending e-mail, editing photos and playing video games."
What games, you ask? A copy of the video viewed by GameSpot clearly shows a user playing what looks like a handheld version of Halo in a train station, and an image in the Post-Intelligencer's gallery of stills also shows the Bungie game on the portable's screen. Unlike the side-scrolling spin-offs that were once rumored to be coming to portables, the Origami Halo looks much like the same graphic-intensive first-person shooter that has become legendary on the Xbox and PC.
[UPDATE] However, it remains unclear when--or if--gamers will be able to get their hands on a mini Master Chief. Instead of busting out the usual "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation" boilerplate, reps for the company admitted the video was legit. "While Origami is a concept we've been working on with partners, please know that the video seen on Digital Kitchen's web site is a year old and represents our initial exploration into this form factor, including possible uses and scenarios," a Microsoft rep told GameSpot.
Though reps wouldn't comment on the Halo footage specifically, their references to "possible uses and scenarios" means the footage was likely for demonstration purposes only. "Everything in the video was 100 percent pure concept, so take nothing as an indication of what may or may not be in any such final product," a source close to Microsoft told GameSpot. "I'm sure they just took some Halo footage and stuck it in there since it's a Microsoft property."
So will the portable device have gaming functionality? Hopefully we'll know soon. The reps also said that details on the Origami Project would be revealed "in the coming weeks." Maybe they should have said "the coming days," as the date on the origamiproject.com is this Thursday--less than 72 hours away. Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that something is getting unveiled on March 2--and we can't wait to see what it is. </blockquote>
So are Microsoft going to release their own handheld, check out the screens in the comments and give your verdict

Source - IGN
The PSP community was shocked (not really) by Logic 3's announcement that their highly anticipated PSP keyboard accessory has been cancelled. According to Logic 3, Sony was unwilling to provide command protocols necessary for the keyboard to function.
Sony has not commented as to why the company would not like to see a keyboard peripheral developed, however, the cancellation notice from Logic 3 is the final addition to a lengthy and often delayed development process of the peripheral. Some speculate that Sony will soon release their own first-party keyboard for the PSP, while others pessimistically suggest that Sony does not care to heed overwhelming consumer demand for a PSP keyboard and will do nothing. We'll keep you posted if anything develops.

Another exclusive product on Divineo.cn!"
Heres more info:

<blockquote>Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2: A Digital VCR for your Sony PSPTM and iPodTM video!
Imagine having instant access to all your video anywhere! With its ability to easily record from any analog video source onto standard memory cards, the Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2 is the must-have companion for PSP’s, iPod’s and other portable media players. With the Recorder 2 you can record the media you already own onto your handhelds to liven up your commute, make a cross-country business trip seem a little less lonely, or just watch your favorite movie or TV show in bed without disturbing your sleeping spouse.
Here’s how it works. Just pop a CF or memory stick memory card (purchased separately) into the Recorder 2 and plug it into the video-out jacks of any video source (cable or Satellite TV box, DVR, PVR like Tivo™, VCR, DVD player, camcorder, etc) with the supplied cables and hit ‘Record.’ Once the recording is finished, you can instantly view the recorded video on a PSPTM , your laptop or other handheld that accepts CF or memory stick by popping the memory card out of the Recorder 2, popping it into the player, and hitting ‘Play’.
It’s easy to watch on an iPod too: Just transfer the recorded file to your PC via a USB card reader (purchased separately) and add it to iTunes, then sync your iPod, and you are ready to go. Nothing to download or convert.
Neuros is all about openness and freedom and, unlike the big guys, uses open standards to make sure your content plays without hassle on as many products as possible.
You can even do timed recording so you can record last night’s “Sopranos" or “The Daily Show” while you sleep or this afternoon’s ballgame while you work. And it’s just as easy to record from DVDs or to digitize your home movies. You can also use the Recorder 2 to watch video or view photos on your TV. Just plug it into the Video-In jacks on the TV and hit ‘Play’. And with the USB connection from your PSP or an inexpensive USB adaptor/Card reader (not included), you can easily drag and drop content from the memory card onto your computer to play it on your laptop or home PC.
The Recorder 2 weighs ounces and fits in the palm of your hand, so you can easily take it on the road with you as your portable digital VCR.</blockquote>

Cross from our forums has posted a great review of the game MegaMan Maverick Hunter X.

Here is a quick sample.
Now as far as the basic Disc. goes. This is a remake of the original MegaMan X but they did a hell of a god job. The game looks more like the PS2 MegaMan X Series, but not completely. They added some good elements, changed locations and the order in which you get power ups as well as adding more things to the series.
First this marks the return to Anime Cut Scenes (Excluding MegaMan X Command Mission and I have been lazy about MegaMan X7 and 8 as I just do not like my PS2... or the new setup for the games). The scenes have been done excellently and a bonus film is inluded after you beat the game with X. This film seems to pick up where MegaMan X 4 left us after the battle Sigma and Zero flash Back. The video gives a history basically of how the rebellion started and its done very well. I do like that MegaMan does not sound so.... girly but he does seem to be shouting all the time.
Now as far as differences the graphics is a huge change but also the Power up locations has changed. They are in the same stages but not the same power ups. I will leave it at that as that was part of the fun for me. All heart locations and Sub tanks were the same for X.
But the real treat was some of the hidden goodies. For X you can get Zero's Buster. I do not remember being able to do this in the original. (I used to pride myself on being able to get through the original in about 1.5 hours max... now I want to go see if maybe I missed this or not ) I will not say how but you can find out on the net if you want to. Also the big battle with Vile, Zero and X is not the first Sigma Stage but now the third. It also seems different completely (The whole battle setup) Zero was found in a capsule being held prisioner now he is beaten on the ground... I will not give any more away.
