Hey all, im sure you know by now that PSMonkey released the first Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP with commercial rom support the other day but due to some rather inaccurate newsposting and it seems that several sites copied the same news without even bothering to check it out they seemed to downplay the emulator saying it ran only 2 roms, well just to inform those who GOT IT WRONG, heres a few links to whats working:
Monkey 64 Compatibility Thread (PD Roms)
PDRom Compat List --> http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=20266
Monkey 64 Compatibility Thread
Commercial Games Compat List --> http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/sho...5&page=1&pp=10
AS you can see by checking those lists, its a lot more than just 2
For a first release its impressive and gives us hope of things to come, remember to keep your eye on PSmonkeys site and forum hosted here on the DCEmu Network

Soadnation has released a new Lua Game for the PSP, heres the info:
"I finally finished my first game(after about a month). It is a clone from a game called Fusion Frenzy(for the Xbox). The game was made up of all mini-games. The one called "Twisted System" was the one i loved the most so I decided to make a 2-D clone of it. The object of the game is to jump over the low beams and duck under the high beams. As you progress further the poles will speed up making it harder to time when to jump and when to duck.
ToDo
-Better graphics
--Fit more of screen
--Better quality
-Sound
-Highscore save
ToDo in future possibly
-Two Player
--Same PSP
--Over internet(this woulod be far off)

PSMonkey has released the first version of his Nintendo 64 Emulator for the PSP, this release has support somewhat for the Commercial game Mortal Kombat Trillogy and whilst it wont play most of the Nintendo 64 Library it is a big step in the right direction, heres the news from his site:
The Emulator also works on any version from v1.0 to v2.6 from reports
<blockquote>Well sorry I am late but here is the much promissed first release of monkey64. I was hopping for better at the last min but it still passed my exspectations for a first build.
Few things to note.
.) While Rsp & Rdp emulation is started it is far from complete. As well there are still numerious issues in the main cpu core. I plan to fix things as soon as I can get to them.
.) This wont run mario64 or 99% of the n64 library. Some roms are starting to do things with Mortal Kombat Trillogy actualy being playable (to some extent).
.) I know there are odd looking color squares when running some comercial roms (like mortal kombat). The reason is because I have not completed texture suport in rdp. I am hoping to get a revision out asap once this is fixed.
.) The emulator is slow. Some PD roms do a pretty nice framerate but games like mortal kombat do about 5fps. This is due to the emulator still being on a pure interpreter core. In good time I will build a dynamic recompiler so we can get some more playable framerates.
.) The app is in user mode. So it is quite posible this works on 2.0+ psp units. I just sadly dont have the time to check.
Well that is it. Do enjoy. The zip contains a few favorite PD roms. Pong by Oman is a must play imo. Also if you're all currious what mortal kombat trillogy looks like in game. Please see attached screenshot on forums.
PS. Mortal Kombat Trillogy [!] dump wont work. [b1] dump runs just fine. When you see the second screen, press start as it's just warning you that there is only 1 controller plugged in.
-- EDIT --
Hey guys. Sorry I forgot to mention. The screen flickering is because its not doing double buffering on the psp. It's just directly rendering to the display screen. I was trying to fix this at lunch but ran into problems so I gave up since I wanted to push the build out asap. I'll have it fixed for the v1.1 build.</blockquote>
Download it for yourself at PSMonkeys Site
Lets start trying every N64 game and post if any works on this first release
So far these games do something:
Wave Race 64 (J) [!] - Displays N64 Logo then crashes back to menu.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (U) (V1.0) [b1] - Displays menus - no graphics yet.
Doom 64 (U) [!] - Displays menus - no graphics yet.
Massive List of PDRoms inside that work - via comments

The PSP Rhythm have released a new version of their Software for the PSP, heres the full info if you have never heard of it before:
<blockquote>Inspired by classic drum machines such as the Linndrum and Roland TR-series, PSP Rhythm has been created to use the simple, yet effective 16 step style drum sequencer. PSP Rhythm incorporates the use of audio sample playback instead of drum synthesis. PSP Rhythm has been directly influenced by one of our favorite modern drum machines, the Elektron MachineDrum.
The most significant addition in version 3.0 is the "parameter locks" feature (as used by the MachineDrum). Parameter locks enable you to change the pitch, volume, balance, start and end times per step to create moving, changing melodies and effects. This control over your sounds will give you much more creative freedom and allow you to not only use drums, but to use instruments in your music.
With the release of version 4.0 a Bass Line synthesizer similar to a Roland TB-303 has been added to make this the most versatile homebrew drum machine for the PSP. TB-303 style features such as Accent and Slide are available, along with the real-time control of the Cutoff and Resonance you can get that authentic "Acid" sound that made the TB-303 so famous.
The PSP screen is a graphic representation of a 16 step drum machine styled in Elektron fashion with a main display in the center and 16 buttons along the bottom. Each button has an LED light above and a step number below.</blockquote>

Meridimus posted a new Lua Release:
<blockquote>Hi Peeps,
This is a Lua application with a difference. The navigation is clean and different to all the stuff I've otherwise seen recently.
It's a remote and local file browser that remembers the position of each place locally and remotely. Wireless functionality is still incomplete, for now you can navigate your local folders and delete files, check battery etc. Check it out!
In my opinion, even in its current stage of development it's a great replacement to lowser.
Please note, when in USB mode all functions are disabled, you must exit USB mode before proceeding to use Remo.
Oh, and REMO stands for REMOTE. But just looks better (in my opinion).
Controls:
* Left trigger, displays Local files (L for Local...)
* Right trigger, displays Remote files (R for Remote...)
* Cross, Up Directory or Escape delete
* Circle, Select folder, run application or Confirm delete
* Square, USB Mode
* Start, if replacing Lowser it's "Reboot" Remo, otherwise quit application
* Select, sort files ASCENDING to DESCENDING and back again
Known Bugs:
* When browsing empty folders Lua crashes for some reason
* USB mode doesn't stop when exiting an internally loaded application
* Remote folder overuns selectable list
* Deleting the last file in a folder causes crash (reference to bug 1)
* Cannot delete a folder that contains files (should be simple to sort out, create a loop that traverses through the directory and deletes files. Will cause problem 1 to occur again!)
* Without a battery in the PSP the percentage result is incorrect
To Do:
* Fix crash where no files in a folder (might be a Lua player problem...)
* Allow wireless connection to be implemented
* Allow remote navigation
* Allow remote file transfer
* Allow copy and paste, locally at least.
* Allow folder creation (needs keyboard input, could implement existing app).
* Better theme support
* Clean up code
Install:
Copy into your PSP/Games/Luaplayer/Applications folder
Requires Lua 0.16</blockquote>

Source GamesIndustry
The president of startup studio Ready At Dawn has told GamesIndustry.biz that developers must stop making excuses for producing handheld games that aren't up to the same standard as their console counterparts.
In an exclusive interview, Didier Malenfant conceded that consumers are becoming disgruntled with the choice of games available for the PSP, stating: "There's obviously not as many titles as people would want on the platform, but at the same time, up until now there hasn't been any title that really gives you the same kind of experience you could find on the PS2."
"Everything is compromised, and it bugs the hell out of me when you hear a lot of developers saying, 'Well, we can't do this that way because it's a handheld game,' or 'We can't do this because it doesn't have a second analog stick.'"
"Those are all excuses," Malenfant continued - observing that the original PSone controller didn't have any analog sticks, "And there were great games on that."
Malenfant, who formerly worked for Jak and Daxter developer Naughty Dog, co-founded Ready At Dawn in September 2003 together with former Blizzard employees Ru Weerasuriya and Andrea Pessino.
The studio's first game is simply titled Daxter, and is based around the character of the same name. Malenfant believes that Daxter "Is not only a really good game, but really something that shows that for the first time, this is a handheld that can give you the same experience you'd find on a home console."
"For me that's terribly exciting, because I tend to play my PSP a lot more than any other console, simply because it's portable. I don't want to end up playing sub-par games just because I'm on a handheld, which up to [the arrival of the PSP] has been what we've had to do."
"We really set out to prove that you can do a game that is as good, if not better, than a PS2 game and really show off the platform. If we do end up becoming the game that opens the floodgates, I'd be really really proud, because it's such an awesome handheld."
Daxter will be published this spring by Sony - a company with whom RAD has an excellent relationship, according to Malenfant.
"You need to get to a situation where you get the support, but at the same time, you're working with people who really understand games, and I think that's the hardest thing to do," he said.
"Obviously you want people who know the business side, but at the same time games are so much about passion that you really need people you can talk to on the same level, who really understand what makes a game great."
"That's what's so hard to find - because there are a lot of talented business people in the industry, but very few talented business people who actually know games."
When asked if RAD would consider accepting an acquisition offer by Sony in the future, Malenfant replied: "I can't say we've really thought about it. What's important to me as far as Ready At Dawn's concerned is that we've been able to build a new company culture with the people we've hired. As long as we keep that together and we're able to maintain that, there's no outright plan, or discussions for that matter."

More on Sonys Crappy PSP ads from Gamesindustry.biz
Sony has been forced to remove a poster which advised consumers to "Take a running jump" from tram and train stations across the country after transport staff expressed safety concerns.
The poster was part a recent advertising campaign to promote the PSP which ran throughout the UK. It featured a plain white background with red text which read: "Take a running jump from here."
A rail worker saw the poster on a tram platform at Metrolink's Manchester Piccadilly station, decided there was a safety issue and took action to have the poster covered over.
"An employee spotted it and said it was a bit inappropriate," A Network Rail spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News.
"The message goes completely against all our safety messages, particularly because PlayStation is aimed at youngsters and we are constantly telling them not to trespass."
Sony has since taken action to remove the poster from sites where it could be deemed inappropriate. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a spokesperson said: "The PSP ad creative highlights the portability and multi-functionality of the console, and we have been made aware that one particular advert has been placed inappropriately in a couple of locations.
"In consideration of this, we have responded immediately and withdrawn the posters from these sites. This campaign run is planned to finish this Saturday."
