It looks like the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is jumping on the 12-step plan. The ESA sent out a press release this morning officially launching the Video Game Voters Network, a website devoted to promoting the self-regulation of the games industry. The site serves to keep track of all the anti-game legislation currently under consideration, including the Family Entertainment Protection Act, sponsored by usual suspects Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman.
Also found on the site are "Top Ten Facts About Gamers," which attempts to dispel common misconceptions about gamers, and independent research which shows that video games are not turning our youth into aggressive killing machines. You can also view a collection of choice quotes supporting the industry. The Video Game Voters Network provides contact information for US and State Senators, forms that you can use to "spread the word," and even a voter registration form.
The website is politics at its worst (top banner features US citizens of all ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds smiling in front of an American flag), but it is about time the games industry started to the play the game and defend itself. With voter turnout as low (and apathy as high) as it is, even a few more registered voters could make a difference.

PSMonkey has posted a little update as to any new advancements over the weekend, heres the info:
anyways not much of an update over the weekend. I'm having trouble with tile loading. All the plugins seem to copy the same bit of code for byteswaping the data but its in pure x86 asm (my weakness, I can handle risc based asm). Anyways I have a friend who is gonna give me a rough c translation of the code which will help. At most so far I can get a garbled acclaim logo from bust-a-move 2.
Anyways since I got a little fed up last night I moved onto other things. I desided to get bust-a-move & mortal kombat mithologies progressing. I now have bust-a-move getting to the title screen (i think it stops from there but hard to tell) which is great. Mk mithologies progresses but still needs more opcodes. :/
So thats about it for now. I'll hopefuly get the byteswap code today from my friend to fix things.

A new retro style game in the form of the classic Miner Games has been released for the PSP, heres the info:
Okay, here's a playable version of what I have so far. You start out with $1500 and can dig as much as you'd like as long as you can afford the earthshaker fee and don't die or run out of cash. The bank and surgery are the only 2 working buildings at the moment, use the bank to cash in your minerals and the surgery for healing.
There's still alot to do, like get the rest of the buildings up, add in the inventory for your tools, add the tools, add more mine depth.
Controls:
Start - forces a restart
Select - takes a screenshot
Dpad - move miner (up enters a building)
Cross - exits buildings
Triangle - respawns mine at a cost of $2500
Analog - move left/right faster in town
I'm interested to know whether this works on 2.xx if someone could test that and let me know, that'd be great. I also welcome comments on spawn rates & walk speeds - too slow? too fast? not enough spawns? let me know

Success HK posted that the US version of Pursuit Force is now available, heres the info:

Sony Computer Entertainment puts you in the middle of high-speed chases as you race through city streets in dangerous pursuit of the criminal element. As a highway cop, you seize cars or motorbikes and engage in gun battles while in hot pursuit, jumping between vehicles and latching onto crook's cars while racing across the pavement at over 100 miles per hour!
The first project from BigBig Studios (staffed by former members of Codemasters' TOCA and Colin McRae teams, and funded by coding house Evolution Studios), this project is an original title for the PlayStation Portable, combining character-based action and high-octane action on the road. Set across five distinct environments, Pursuit Force presents a variety of gameplay elements for each criminal case, including collect and follow assignments, high-speed pursuit, on-foot action, and aerial attacks.

After months of speculation and rumor concerning the PlayStation 3's projected launch, we may finally get some official answers from Sony as soon as this Wednesday. According to Koei CEO Kiyoshi Komatsu, Sony is planning a press conference for March 15 that may reveal long-awaited details of the console's availability. Ferrago is also reporting that a Taiwanese manufacturer won't begin assembling the PS3's circuit boards until the summer.
Given the potential development hassles Sony faces with cell processor and blu-ray drive production, and the fact that developers like Square Enix haven't seen any development kits yet, there's mounting evidence that even a holiday release could be too much to hope for. Will Sony end our fanboy misery and spill the beans on the PS3 launch this Wednesday, or will they wait for Phil Harrison's GDC keynote next week?

PlayStation 3 may sport download service for selected PSone, PS2 titles
Reports from development sources close to Sony Computer Entertainment are indicating that the firm is planning a major digital distribution service for game content, which could be a key element of PlayStation 3 - or even of a relaunched PS2.
Several senior developers have confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that they have spoken informally with Sony about the question of digital distribution on consoles, although these discussions were described as being "purely about technology, not business models" by one source.
However, even the technology discussed could be very revealing regarding the Japanese giant's plans for the coming years - with one source from the development arm of a major third-party publisher claiming that Sony has been discussing the technical feasibility of providing PSone and PS2 titles over digital distribution with them.
This could indicate that Sony is hoping to provide a service for the PS3 similar to Nintendo's Revolution digital download system, which will allow users to access a back catalogue of Nintendo titles through the next-generation console.
In Sony's case the challenges may be significantly more difficult, since PlayStation titles were customarily several hundred megabytes in size, and PS2 titles spanned multiple gigabytes - compared to just a few megabytes or less for NES, SNES and N64 titles in the Nintendo back-catalogue.
However, as Internet connections speed up downloads of this size will be far more reasonable - already, several Xbox Live demos for the Xbox 360 are over 600Mb in size - and our sources indicated that Sony may also be investigating the possibility of remastering certain PS2 titles to allow them to stream later content over the network while the player is already playing early parts of the game.
The move would not be surprising, given that both other next-generation consoles will offer downloadable game content - Xbox Live Arcade and game demos in the case of Xbox 360, and the back catalogue download service on Revolution - which makes it highly unlikely that Sony will miss out on this opportunity.
The information from our development sources comes only days after Electronic Arts' European vice president of sales, Dr Jens Uwe Intat, confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the leading publisher is already in discussions with platform holders over digital distribution - telling us that "we as a total industry, software publishers and hardware manufacturers, are already sitting together and working on business models."
One of the key requirements of digital distribution on this scale, however, is a large storage system - such as a hard drive, a component with which Sony has had a patchy history. Although the PlayStation 2 hardware can support a hard drive, the peripheral was unsuccessful and was only ever used to any great degree by Square Enix' massively multiplayer title Final Fantasy XI. The PlayStation 3 hardware will also support a hard drive unit but is set to ship without one pre-installed in the basic configuration.
Sony is expected to announce new information about its plans for PlayStation 3 in Tokyo on Wednesday, ahead of a keynote address from the firm's worldwide studios boss Phil Harrison at the Game Developers' Conference in San Jose next week.

Divineo USA have posted news that they have the Neuros Recorder 2 in stock. Heres the news and info:
The Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2 is a Digital VCR for your Sony PSP(tm) and iPod(tm) video! The ultimate solution for all multimedia geeks.

<blockquote>Imagine having instant access to all your video anywhere! With its ability to easily record from any analog video source onto standard memory cards, the Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2 is the must-have companion for PSP’s, iPod’s and other portable media players. With the Recorder 2 you can record the media you already own onto your handhelds to liven up your commute, make a cross-country business trip seem a little less lonely, or just watch your favorite movie or TV show in bed without disturbing your sleeping spouse.
Here’s how it works. Just pop a CF or memory stick memory card (purchased separately) into the Recorder 2 and plug it into the video-out jacks of any video source (cable or Satellite TV box, DVR, PVR like Tivo™, VCR, DVD player, camcorder, etc) with the supplied cables and hit ‘Record.’ Once the recording is finished, you can instantly view the recorded video on a PSPTM , your laptop or other handheld that accepts CF or memory stick by popping the memory card out of the Recorder 2, popping it into the player, and hitting ‘Play’.
It’s easy to watch on an iPod too: Just transfer the recorded file to your PC via a USB card reader (purchased separately) and add it to iTunes, then sync your iPod, and you are ready to go. Nothing to download or convert.
Neuros is all about openness and freedom and, unlike the big guys, uses open standards to make sure your content plays without hassle on as many products as possible.
You can even do timed recording so you can record last night’s “Sopranos" or “The Daily Show” while you sleep or this afternoon’s ballgame while you work. And it’s just as easy to record from DVDs or to digitize your home movies. You can also use the Recorder 2 to watch video or view photos on your TV. Just plug it into the Video-In jacks on the TV and hit ‘Play’. And with the USB connection from your PSP or an inexpensive USB adaptor/Card reader (not included), you can easily drag and drop content from the memory card onto your computer to play it on your laptop or home PC.
The Recorder 2 weighs ounces and fits in the palm of your hand, so you can easily take it on the road with you as your portable digital VCR.</blockquote>

To be perfectly honest, it's been so long since we last heard anything from THQ's PSP version of Juiced, we'd almost completely forgotten it existed. Last look - in September, no less - developer Juice Games was whapping the world with a whole new batch of Juiced: Eliminator screens and - by a strange coincidence - that's exactly what it's doing this time around as well.
In case you're wondering, haven't been following or merely demand concerted repetition of gaming fact before it sinks in, Juiced: Eliminator takes all the street-racing, modding action of its big console predecessor and slings in a whole bunch of new modes (including the heavily-hyped 'Eliminator' mode, which is apparently so much fun it'll blow your pants clean off without even requiring the removal of your trousers first), wi-fi-enabled multiplay and a host of other new features.
Juiced: Eliminator is currently scheduled for release on PSP this June and is one-hundred percent guaranteed to make your handheld go slightly faster.
This Newspost and screens can be seen at CVG -> http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=135515

This is one for all the PSP lovers... Sony has announced a new video recorder. No HD, no HDMI, no DVD or BR... only the MS (MemoryStick)! This MSVR-A10 is a Mr reader/recorder that supports the MPEG-4 AVC(H.264) format and encodes the video straight onto the MS in 320x240, which gives you between 2h20 and 4h10 of video on a 1GB MS (depending on the compression). This little toy will cost less than 180 EUR.

Heres some take it or leave it rumours:
<blockquote>That being said, here’s a bit of info that I chanced into the other day, from a rather well-placed source named Proteus. He CONFIRMED a few details that were already rumored around the Net.
Seems Sony’s current internal plans call for a release of a refitted PSP around Christmas this year. The device will, indeed, be streamlined (thinner), lighter, boast 4 gigs of memory and a camera. Proteus indicated Sony is having a hell of a time with PlayStation 3 on several fronts (between PS3’s Cell processor and its built-in Blu-ray DVD, cost effectiveness has pretty much gone out the window). Seems the ever-phantasmic PS3 may well be delayed until next year, with Sony’s reworked PSP being positioned as a lead-in to its release (in the same way Nintendo’s release of the oh-so-sexy DS Lite heralds the coming of Revolution). </blockquote>

Ok, lets imagine that your UMD drive or TFT screen has broken on your PSP, or for that matter you want to install a new faceplate, do you try to fix yourself or pay someone to do it, looking around the internet theres no really decent tutorials on how to install replacement UMD Drives or to Install new TFT screens, with that in mind its not easy to try it yourself.
Last weekend on my original v1.0 console i installed a killer Silver Faceplate that i brought from DecalGirl and whilst the instructions were basic they did help - although i had to buy some precision screwdrivers to undo the screws.
It was easy apart from the ruddy buttons but while i was getting ready to screw together i did have a look and it looks no easy job to replace the UMD Drive or TFT.
Would you Fix yourself and if you have tell us about it and if there are any decent tutorials.

With the recent release of the UMD Loaders and the fact that the V1.5 Firmware plays Homebrew excellent without all the fuss of Eloaders etc, i would say that the V1.5 Firmware on a PSP Console is the King.
Those of you who have a V2.0 can also downgrade so that means those with v1.0, v1.52 & V2.0 can either be upgraded or downgraded to play the best in emulators and the best in UMD Releases.
So if you want a V1.5 or one of the other firmware than can be changed to V1.5 where can you get one, well heres a quick search of shops who say they have the right PSPs in stock.
SuccessHK
- Sony PSP Value Pack US ver.1.52 USD:267.00
- SONY PSP Value Pack Version1.52 (Asia Version) USD 299.00
Divineo Sweden
- PSP Value Pack 1.5 2890Kr
NeoDiscs.com
- PSP v1.52 Value Pack - £175.00
So there you have it, doesnt seem many have the lower PSP firmware consoles these days.
