Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core managed to miss going playable yet again. The PlayStation portable installment in Square Enix's Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series was video-only at TGS. Ho-hum, but at least you can read our impressions as written by the lovely Andrew Alfonso.
We also have a new release time frame for the game. Japan's Impress Watch game site reports that a Japanese release is now planned for Spring of 2007.
With that in mind, it should be okay to expect a US release later in the year.

Sony's GPS add-on for PSP (which lets the handheld connect to the Global Positioning System network to allow users to know exactly where they are in the world on a map or by coordinates) was big news when it was announced, but exact usage in games has been a big question for buyers. At TGS 2006, SCE had the GPS on hand and showed what it would do in a number of educational and service titles (including the Homestar Portable astronomy app and a version of the EDIA digital mapping program), but game use was shown only in tiny portions (and nothing playable, by the way -- in fact, the TGS demos were not even live, instead just showing rolling demos of what would have happened had the units been active.)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is, of course, one of two major games to make use of the GPS device (the other is Hot Shots Golf Portable.) Konami detailed out the features that this new GPS implementation provides the game. Instead of the GPS factoring into gameplay, the unit will in this game be helpful in use in the special Scavenger Hunt for comrades that MGS: PO uses in its HotSpot hiring feature. In the game, you can try to connect to local internet WiFi points, which will (even if you just ping the router) return powered-up characters to your game for use in the Comrade system. Various levels of characters are "stored" for various IP addresses and zones, so you'll never know what you'll get when you connect. The GPS, therefore, can be used to hook up with GPS satellites to determine where you are in the world and to perhaps guide you towards known HotSpots that might give you secret and powerful bonus characters.
As a gameplay feature, this implementation of GPS isn't much, but as a Geocaching stunt, it's pretty cool and it offers gamers a much better chance of finding good comrades. The GPS has not been officially announced for release in America, so Konami has not decided yet whether to carry the feature over exactly as is or what to do with this ability in the English-language version, but the Japanese game will feature it in its full capacity.

While we don't envy the $60 they have to pay for most games, one thing that Japanese gamers have always been privileged with is the option of loading up on amazing gaming tchotchkes. Sure, you may pay twice as much for a Limited Version of a game, but to get an authentic bust of the lead character or some cool toys or cel art of the game, that may be worth it.
Konami's booth for its huge upcoming PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops showed off some goodies for the game that it looks like it has plans on selling through the KonamiStyle.jp game store here in Japan. The highlight was a MGS:PO PSP pack, which included the PSP game and a PSP (standard black, unfortunately) in a themed MGS: PO package. Shown with the kit (but not depicted on the box -- we're not sure if there will be more inside the package than just these two basic items) was a lined canvas PSP case with a red leather badge on the front showing the new cool-assed Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops logo, plus a set of three MGS: PO medals. Also in the kiosk was another PSP case, this one with a snakeskin camo print. A selection of MGS:PO shirts are already available on the site.

New release from Billy and Louie Iturzaeta
Heres some info on the program:
PSP Rhythm is the homebrew drum machine for the Sony Playstation Portable.
Inspired by classic drum machines such as the Linndrum and Roland TR-series, PSP Rhythm has been created to use a similar simple, yet effective sequencer.
PSP Rhythm uses a parameter feature that enable you to change the pitch, volume, balance, start, end times, cutoff and resonance per step to create moving, changing melodies and effects. This control over your sounds will give you much more creative freedom.
The on board Bass Line synthesizer in PSP Rhythm is similar to the classic Roland TB-303. TB-303 style features such as Accent and Slide are available. The real time control of the Cutoff and Resonance give you that authentic "Acid" sound that made the TB-303 Bass Line Synthesizer so famous.
Included effects are: Distortion, Slicer, Delay, Time Stretch, High/Low Pass Filter and Monophonic Sample Mode.
PSP Rhythm v6.1 changes
Audio Resampling Engine completely rewritten and is more accurate
Tap Tempo implemented into pattern mode
Working MIDI file export
Tested with eLoader 0.99 and is working

Adepsp posted this release:
This is a module for Devhook that extends the functionality of the existing screenshot module. Taking and modifying the code for the Video Recorder from the LCS CheatDevice by Edison Carter I have adapted it into a prx module so it can be used with DevHook.
You are no longer limited to taking animated GIF clips in Liberty City Stories. It can now be done in any game you like. You can even capture out of game clips such as game menus, loading animations and even the XMD.
You can record video in normal mode (half the screen size) or advanced mode (full screen size) and all files will be saved to the PSP/PHOTO folder. It is recommended you use normal mode as advanced mode slows the game down a lot and makes it difficult to play.
The animated GIF files are uncompressed so make sure you have plenty of memory stick space in order to store them (don't worry, if you run out of space the module will simply stop working). You can compress the GIF files massivly without loosing any quality using the GIFAnimator.exe program provided. It is a very good idea to do this if you intend to post your clips on forums.

UPDATE - New Video running Ridge Racer check it here -->
News Via PSPgen
The French Site thats being used by Yoshihiro for the release of his PSX Emu for the PSP has posted news that the release is coming tommorrow, heres the full translated info thanks to Datahax
Description:
PSX-P is an emulator meant for the Sony PS1 programmed by Yoshihiro.
The games have to be of ISO or BIN format, you can directly make the images of the games that you own without having to buy a new copy off the internet.
What's up doc?
In the new version of the emulator, the execution speed is still slow but this is due to the lack of dynarec (dynamic decompiler). Dark_alex should check that out pretty soon.
We now have a playable beta in our hands and we are happy to be able to share it with you soon.
The official release will be Sunday September 24th 2006 at 8 PM sharp..
Awesome news then, ill personally be ready with the release as it happens, should be a GREAT DAY for the PSP Scene

We're not quite sure what a Regnum is or why it is lost, but Lost Regnum from Ertain was a game that was worth finding on the TGS floor. An action-filled dungeon crawler, the game doesn't seem likely for release outside of Japan, but its frantic action did seem to make for a nice little import title.
Blazing fast, the gameplay in Lost Regnum is hack-and-slash, button-mashing goodness. The female character we played as (there are a variety of four character types to play as) had a large repertoire of ways to lay a beatdown, utilizing multiple buttons for attacks (the R trigger acted as a power modifier) that let you juggle enemies and toss them around the stage. Enemies could be drawn at each other, so those carrying a bow might hit their compatriots instead of you. The story mode can be played on your own, or you can bring a friend along for two-player dungeon hacking.

Heres an excerpt
Fight fans likely won't Ertain's Boxer's Road 2 on shelves in America, but this PSP entry in the PlayStation boxing series may be worth a look on import for its complex strategizing and dynamic action in the ring. We got a chance to try out the final build (or 95% complete build, if you must ... the game ships in 5 days here, so we can't imagine the dev team doing much more) and found some decent production values and hectic gameplay from bell to bell. It's not a perfect boxing sim by any means (if it's not possible to adjust the analog sensitivity, ignore some of the good things we're about to say), and a little bit of Japanese language skill or a translation guide will be needed to get the most of it, but for those not satisfied in their punchlust with Fight Night and The Con on PSP, this is another option to check out.
Developer Grand Prix Games has transferred the console experience (the game series originated on home systems), adding some nice PSP touches along the way. One cool element shown was that in the robust character creation mode had a photo store feature where you can use your own picture for your boxer avatar for wireless fights -- if you also manage to make a 3D character in the mode that resembles you in the mode, you're a set man. The game is as much a boxing simulator as it is a boxing game, with full structures for scheduling your work-outs, your meals, and your fights. A story mode takes you through it all, as you deal with the complications of grooming a boxer to become a champ.

Hi all
I have found a way to enable the flash player and wma play back without the use of the WIFI internet.
I have edited the registery files so that that flash player and wma play back are enabled
Instructions
- unzip the file and put the contents in the root of mem stick folder into the root of your memory stick
- go to the photo folder and scroll down to the fonthack folder and press start
- once the program has started press circle and wait 30 seconds then press the home button
- you should now have flash player and wma playback enabled
- Caution - this has only been tested on 2.80, and is only for 2.70 to 2.80 because of the flash player
I have made 2 zip files, 1 for people who want or have custom fonts and 1 for people who dont have a custom font or dont want a custom font
enjoy!

Following Ken Kutaragi's keynote address at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, Sony announced that the 20GB-harddrive equipped model of the PlayStation 3 was getting a price drop in Japan. The lower-end version of the console, which will now boast HDMI high-definition video output, will now cost just 49,980 yen (circa $429) when it hits stores in Japan on November 11. That’s about 10,000 yen (approx. $85) less than its prior price, which was around 60,000 yen (about $515).
Kaz Hirai on PS3 SCEA prez talks up the next-gen console.
Watch | Download
Although Sony's announcement only applied to Japan, news of the discounting spread quickly across the globe. Wire service reports with headlines saying "Sony slashes price tag for delay-hit PlayStation 3" surfaced in numerous local newspapers in the US. These, in turn, fueled a rumor firestorm that the 20GB PS3's $499 US sticker price would also be cut before it goes on sale November 17.
Sadly, though, Sony is sticking firm with its North American PS3 plans. "In the US, we're comfortable with the pricing that we announced at E3--$499 for the 20 gigabyte version and $599 for the 60-gigabyte version," Sony Computer President Kaz Hirai told GameSpot. "There are no plans right now to adjust the pricing for the US market."
Though disappointed, potential PS3 purchasers in the US did get a bit of a consolation prize from Hirai. The executive confirmed that every 20GB PS3 worldwide will have an HDMI port, not just in Japan, as some had speculated.

The folks at the Tokyo Game show are sending back high resolution screens of titles like Heavenly Sword and Warhawk, but a smaller title that will be on the console is available to play now. Recommended by Tycho in Friday's post to Penny Arcade, the game fl0w has more to offer than just good looks. It's actually a part of a designer's thesis, using the concept of flow theory to make a title more enjoyable for the player. Despite its roots in academia, this beautiful gem may go on to have a fond place in the hearts of console gamers. Joystiq has a hands on with the PS3 version:
"FlOw was running at 525p (480p) -- the graphics were akin to what we've seen the Nintendo Wii produce. We aren't sure if the title will available brick-and-mortar or as a download (or even packaged in the console's hard drive). If priced correctly, flOw could end up an essential title similar to what Geometry Wars represents for the Xbox 360 -- a small, casual game with mass appeal sold for pure profit."
Download the game, and give it a try.

September 23rd, 2006, 16:02 Posted By: Freshmilk
Hia again guys, and welcome to my newest release of TTR.
I know it hasn't been long since my lst release, but i had a barrage of comments and suggestions VIA PM, so i decided to make everyone happy and included every last one of their suggestions.
The new feature of 0.6 is difficulty levels, and a full new layout for the game to cut loading times and make the game more staright forward. Again, there is a one time intro message at the start to tell you some vital information about the game, so please read it as it will only ever display itself once.
I would also ike to extend a massive thank you to PSP_Bling, whom without the new graphics would be impossible. PSP_Bling has agreed to do the graphics for the game from now on, so we should expect to see some great art used in this game. I couldn't have done it without you, buddy - thanks so much for your help.
Okay, now that we're through with the basics, lets look at some screenshots or PSP_bling's work:
Nice, isn't it?
So, now that we've had a little intro and seen what the new graphics looks like, its time for a rundown of everything thats new to the game:
- 4 Difficulty Levels
- Whole new graphics overhaul
- A new look EBOOT, courtesy of PSP_Bling
- A new layout for the game
- Options
That may not seem like a long list of new features compared to other release, but these were hard to make. Just in case you were wondering, the options just makes things simpler, so if you load up the game you can play it staright away, no choosing terrains and such. The garage, Terrain Selector, and the new difficulty selector have all been drafted into the options, therefore making the game more efficient and crash less often.
Now... if you managed to read this far, i have a competetition going on for this game. There is an easter Egg hidden within the game - find it and do what i says for your chance to win 10,000 points, the winner will be decided at random, and no-one on the credits or who have ever been asociated with the game can enter. It ends of 31.09.06, so you better hurry up and find it...

Heres an excerpt:
Namco Bandai has had a long line of successful titles based on the Gundam franchise, and at the Tokyo Game Show 2006 it had its newest PSP offering in the series, Gundam Battle Royale. The game is currently only slated as a Japanese release, and as such it was somewhat difficult to figure out exactly what options and such were available, but we did our best.
The TGS 2006 build allowed us to play one of two scenarios in the Campaign mode, each offering three locations to hop into. The first offered up Solomon, Texas Colony and A Baoa Qu, while the second presented us with Colorado, Ethiopia or Hong Kong City. Choosing any of these options lets you choose your Mobile Suit and make a few upgrades to its abilities, which is based on a point spending system for stats rather than swapping out individual parts.

Heres an excerpt:
The latest build of Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception made an appearance on the TGS show floor today. It eclipses all previous versions thanks to updated visuals, content and refined gameaplay mechanics. The demo itself only showed three of the modes available, including Multiplayer, Free Play and Campaign. The latter actually had had three different missions for attendees to play.
Each starts with a mission briefing which lists enemy opposition and all locations of interest. This session looks almost exactly like the briefings used in the console versions, only here you can notice subtle variations such as new music and a graphical effects. Afterward, it's off to the hangar for aircraft and ordinance selection. While it remains unclear exactly how many craft will make it into the final game, the number should equal that of the console games. The same thing goes for weapons. You can expect all the missile and bomb types as before, with a few new ones added to the mix.

Heres an excerpt:
On display at both Sony and Konami's booths at the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is on display for multiplayer hands-on. It's a short demo, allowing us to take a look at only one map from the game, but we were able to get a feel for how well the game will play on Sony's portable system that could.
The map itself is set outdoors and is based around a large, winding trench. Laying outside of this trench are a number of buildings, one of which you can climb and use as a sniper tower. It's a somewhat small map, but it's also laid out in a way that provides for plenty of cover and blocked off shootout opportunities. In other words, its size is deceiving.

Monster Hunter Portable was one of the brightest spots on the PSP map last year, becoming the highest-selling game in Japan by bringing the PS2 phenomenon to the portable platform almost entirely intact. Capcom has quickly rushed together a sequel for PSP, and despite not adding some features fans of the series have craved, we expect this version to deservedly go gangbusters as well.

The wait for the first PSP game from Level-5, makers of Dark Cloud and chief collaborators for Dragon Quest VIII, is finally over. After being rumored very early on in the system's lifespan and then officially listed as a secret project for some time after that, the PSP game Level-5 has been hard at work on for so long is here and playable at TGS. The wait seems to have been worth it. Jeanne d'Arc is a luscious and complex Strategy RPG for PSP, easily standing out as one of the best titles here at the show for the portable.
