FreePlay has just released a port of the font hack for PSP, to firmwares 2.7-2.80 (and, of course, 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, and 2.6). The font hack, originally created by FreePlay, himself, TeamOverload, and Skylark, enables users to change the fonts on the PSP's home XMB screen (check out this screenshot for an example), and allows for italic, bold, shadow, and other style options for fonts. Another awesome leap for 2.7-2.80 homebrew and PSP customization, great work FreePlay!

Robert A. has just released yet another awesome port for 2.7-2.80 (and as low as 2.0) firmware PSPs, utilizing the TIFF exploit. Penguin Scramble, originally coded by Percival back during the early days of the GTA exploit, is a game where you try to maneuver a penguin past hazardous glaciers, and attempt to survive as long as possible. Pretty straightforward, and there are no known glitches at this time, so download it and have fun!
Note: If you're having trouble getting this to work, try highlighting the 'PENGUIN' folder in the 'PHOTO' menu on your memory stick, then press 'Start' to start a slideshow. This seems to be the most reliable method for running homebrew using the TIFF exploit.

News Via GTA Portable.com:
I've narrowed down the new information below, so you don't have to read all of it.
• One of the several new mini-games in Vice City Stories includes golfing! In one mission, you'll take on a golfing challenge with a character called Gonzales (the guy you kill in GTA: Vice City with a chainsaw). The entire control scheme consists of only one button. Tapping it will start a meter in motion, you then move it around to your desired powered level and once chosen, you tap it again. The process starts again, only choosing the accuracy of your shot.
• In the Empire Building mode there are six types of businesses, that include protection, extortion, and prostitution. The Director at R* Leeds, Gordon Hall, said that they will reveal more types as the release date gets closer.
• Your businesses will get attacked so you can hire and arm bodyguards to protect them. They will also function as safe houses (There are said to be 30 of them).
• The mode will be three tiered, meaning they'll be split into low, middle and high, each requiring more investment for staff and resources.
• To make the mode even more interactive, you'll be able to choose which business you want to run at a desired location. The locale will affect your success, for instance a drug smuggling business will perform good near the Airport or Docks.
• Employees are recruited in a similar way that you would gang members in San Andreas. If they want to work for you, they'll accept, and if not, you'll just have to find another.
• Notifications of attacks on your businesses will be similar to that of San Andreas too, only it will show up on Vic's pager. The business attacked will be able to defend himself, depending on the amount of staff, bodyguards, and weapons you equipped them with.
• Pedestrians on the streets of Vice City will be commenting on your success, so in the beginning you might get a few insulting ones, and as you progress they'll get more friendly.
• There is a picture that has a building that is under construction. The name of the construction company is T.U.M.E. Construction.

With their ears to the rails, listening intently for the faintest sounds of an oncoming hype train, our buddies at PS3 Fanboy finally heard the much delayed Sony marketing machine leave the station, albeit a couple months late.
During their routine screening of the OPM podcast, they learned that the November issue of OPM (Official PlayStation Magazine) would reveal a title "that you have not heard of and won't heart about" ... until November that is. Choo-choo!
We're just wondering how OPM is supposed to oversee the review of the game when their Managing Editor already said she's not buying a PlayStation 3?
This presentation of ultra-super-fantastic-glee-splenderific hype machine has been brought to you by OPM.

SEGA announces new PS3 launch title
September 15, 2006 - Sega will be at the PS3's launch over in Japan with one of its lesser-known arcade titles. The company announced today plans to release Sega Golf Club for the PS3, in time for the system's 11/11 launch.
The exact name of the PS3 version is "Miyazato San Kyoudai Naizou Sega Golf Club." This translates to the somewhat bizarre "Sega Golf Club, with the Miyazato Siblings Built In." The Miyazato siblings are a brother, brother, sister trio of professional golfers, consisting of Kiyoshi Miyazato, Ai Miyazato and Yusaku Miyazato.
Sega's made a few modifications to make the arcade title suitable for the PS3. The arcade version used a special control setup with a small analogue lever for swinging. The PS3 version will use the left analogue stick to replicate the lever. To swing, you first tilt the left stick, then rotate it to set your power. Let go of the stick at the right time, and you'll swing.
Visually, the PS3 version looks like a next generation version of the arcade title. The arcade version ran on Sega's GameCube-based Tri-Force arcade board, so a visual update was expected. Check out our high resolution screens for a closer look.
In addition, Sega has added new modes of play to the PS3 version:
Round: 18 holes played with a single player and three computer players, following the standard rules of golf. You can set the computer player level and can chose between arcade mode, where you have a time and shot limit, or original mode, where all limits are removed.
Putter Golf: This mode offers wacky greens for your to test your golfing skills. By successfully striking item boxes, you earn new items.
Challenge Mode: This mode has an Outrun-like progression system. That is to say, when you clear one hole, you're allowed to select two additional holes of varying difficulty. Each hole presents a specific goal, with some even asking you to hit your ball into the water!
3 Hole Match: A 3 hole battle mode where players bet items on each hole. The game expects that each player will use his own memory card.
You're free to select from the three Miyazato siblings for each of these modes of play, or you can make use of a custom character that you've created on your own.
Currently, four courses have been announced for the PS3 version: Taiheiyo Club, Phoenix Country Club, Bali Hai Golf Club and St. Andrews Links. While these are all real life courses, the game will also, like the arcade version, have courses made exclusively for the home.
Sega is going to have some big competition in the golf genre come launch, as Sony's own Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) is also expected to launch with the PS3 in Japan. We'll get a chance to see how the two titles stack up to one another at the Tokyo Game Show next week
Sega Golf Club, I never heard about a golf game by Sega before.. Great news

How easy can this be? Sony is offering the chance to win a free PlayStation Portable to one lucky person who fills out a “The Configuration of the Next Generation” survey being circulated on the PlayStation Underground mailing list. The survey, which must be completed by 12PM PST on September 18, inquires about recent console purchasing habits and what choices you may make for your next generation console purchase – if any. Call me a marketing whore, but I’ve already taken the survey and hope to win a free PSP!

It wont be long now till the PS3 is released and with PSP Connectivity rumoured and lets be honest it would be silly not to, but on that same token can the PS3 be hacked for Homebrew via the PSP Connectivity.
Anyone got thoughts on this ?

elad_thc has released TIFF Tron, the third game for the new TIFF exploit. He says that he hit a dead end while trying to port something to the TIFF SDK, so he made a small Tron clone instead.
The game pits you against an AI opponent in a classic Tron match, where the goal is to force your opponent to crash into the walls or your own light trail.
To install TIFF Tron, simply unzip the tron.zip file into the 'PHOTO' folder under the 'PSP' folder on your Memory Stick.
So far, the game has been tested on firmware versions 2.60 and 2.80, and elad_thc says it should work for everything from 2.00 to 2.80. Great work, elad_thc!
Note: If you're having trouble getting this to work, try highlighting the 'tron' folder in the 'PHOTO' menu on your memory stick, then press 'Start' to start a slideshow. This seems to be the most reliable method for running it.

Heres an excerpt:
It's recap time, folks. This time, we're talking about the different gangs in the upcoming PSP title, Gangs of London. First with a name like Gangs of London, it's not too difficult to figure out what the game's trying to do. Set on the streets of England, you can assume the role of several different gangs. As in Pursuit Force, another title revolving around gangs, each criminal group in Gangs of London represents a different subculture.
You'll find the Jamaicans, Chinese, Russians, Pakistanis and British each has their own lawbreaking club trying to rule the streets of London. Making things even more interesting is the fact each gang plays differently. You'll find more than just cosmetic differences, in other words. For example, each gang has two sets of skills: hand-to-hand combat and vehicle. When on-foot, characteristics such as power and stamina come into play. But when you're tearing through the streets of London in a vehicle, you'll want a gang who has good handling and speed attributes.

September 16th, 2006, 16:22 Posted By: wraggster
Heres an excerpt:
So, two years ago, the PSP was released, and one of the biggest launch titles for the system was Namco's Ridge Racers. Essentially, the title was a compilation of the classic Ridge Racer courses from previous games rolled into one package. Since the game's release, Namco has been giving the system a lot of love with quality titles and updates to some of their classic titles, such as the Tales series. When the company announced plans to release a new Ridge Racer for the system, there was definitely some excitement, especially when screenshots were released which showed off tracks from previous Ridge games that didn't make the cut in Ridge Racers. If this were a world where everything went right and things always turned out the way they should, Ridge Racers 2 would've had tons of new tracks from the previous titles as well as some from the 360's RR6, but that's not how things turned out. If you're a Namco fan, you might want to turn back now, the next couple of hundred words are not going to be pretty.
To focus on what's actually new in Ridge Racers 2, there are around ten new tracks in the game, taken from various Ridge Racer titles of the past. My personal favorite, Phantom Mile from Ridge Racer Type 4, is one of those new tracks in the game. Unfortunately, there aren't any tracks taken from Ridge Racer 6. Two new modes appear in the title; Duel, which allows you to race one on one with a computer-controlled opponent using a similar car to yours, and Survival.

Thanks to Jadabloom for the news tip.
McZonk who won one of our Coding Competitions has posted an update on his site:
It's been a while since the last post. I was writing my bachelor thesis, so i had no time. I easily fall into tempations, so I locked my PSPs away and get some distance between me and all the nice stuff. But now Team Emergency Exit is back.
Quake 2 will be the top psp project I'm working. I'm still a big fan of the game and want to finish it.
Homebrew Manager was a nice idea. But there seems not much interest in it. I also don't find a server that would host the homebrew. Project is stopped. If anyone is interessted in source code, please contact me on irc.
DualFlash is obsolete with the mod chip. And it is too expensive for me to play with the hardware. So the project is stopped.
******* will be a new game from TEE for psp and pc. It is no port, it will be a complete new game. We have a much wider range of possibility since BrainBox has joined the team: new games with new models.
And for all who didn't tested it yet R-Gear PSP from Shazz, a buddy from Titan.
Nice to hear some news on the Quake Front.

It’s not hard to say, that at this point, the PS3 version of Fight Night is hands down the champ of boxing games — and it’s not even finished. In fact, besides Resistance: Fall of Man, I would say Fight Night Round 3 is the best reason to own a PS3. So, besides the added first-person view, this Fight Night also sports greatly improved visuals all around. You can tell how EA has really fine tuned the look of a boxer when he breathes, bleeds, and sweats. It’s actually the best next-gen title I’ve seen to date.
