1up is reporting on Sony's 'answer' to Microsoft's Xbox Live system: XFire. The PC-based game networking service is already extremely popular among FPS and MMOG players. Financial reports indicate the service will now be extended to the PlayStation 3 as well. From the article:
"By incorporating an existing service into their own PlayStation Network Platform (PNP), Sony hopes to circumvent existing problems in the console space that Microsoft has had to sort out and in using Xfire -- a company with an established messaging, matchmaking and gaming client -- Sony hopes to narrow the four-year gap in online gaming services that Microsoft currently enjoys (Xfire has been around since 2002)."

We have released another update to the PSP Amiga emulator over at www.pspuae.com - Release changes / improvements listed below.
This update is thanks to MrModem, over at PSPUAE.com
V0.55 - MrModem Update
- Added some more Joystick mapping options. You can now use any button to control Amiga joystick 0.
- Changed all sceCtrlReadBufferPositive to sceCtrlPeekBufferPositive. This should speed things up a little, because sceCtrlReadBufferPositive always waits for vsync.
- Fixed a "bug" that caused the PSP to crash if you tried to exit using the home button.
- Added Bilinear filtering when zoom is turned on.
Enjoy.

The first original title from Capcom's Clover Studio -- headed up by Viewtiful Joe producer Atsushi Inaba. Okami takes place in a time when people still believed in the existence of God. The world has become a lifeless place, as shown in the game's use of Hokusai-style Japanese woodblock print visuals. Playing as Ama Terasu, a sun god who takes on the form of a wolf, your goal is to bring life back to the world. Bringing life back to the world involves defeating lots of beasts. With each beast you defeat, the world's life force is restored just a bit, with colors and eventually people appearing. Famitsu reveals two of the game's main beasts, the Ama no Jyaku and the Nue. Ama no Jyaku has the ability to peep on what others are thinking and disturbs them by doing the opposite of what they want. Nue, meanwhile, gains strength with every sip of the alcohol that he carries with him.

Well, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy came out today. Me being a big star wars fan I rushed out to get it as soon as I was through with my morning classes. Of course I bought the psp version. Happily it came with 2.71 firmware update, so us 1.5 users can enjoy it using DevHook. (which is a good thing, cause I didnt want a $40 paper weight). I havent gotten much of a chance to play it yet, but so far it's pretty sweet!

New PS2 game released:

After the turmoil of the Bakumatsu Period, Japan stepped into the Meiji Era. In a certain sword dojo in Tokyo, a traveling swordsman appeared, and the story thus began… The evil devil-of-a-man Shishio Makoto and his subordinates attempted to overthrow the Meiji government. And in order to stop their ambition, Himura Kenshin, Saito Hajime and Sagara Sanosuke ventured to Kyoto, each with his individual feelings. This production is based on the Kyoto part, separated into "Kenshin Story", "Saito Story" and "Sanosuke Story", with the player controlling the respective main character in each story to play a sword clashing action game. The hatred, gratitude, love of Japan's Bakumatsu Period reignite into flames from ashes here!

New PS2 Game released:

Metal Slug 6 is the latest arcade platform action hit from SNK Playmore, finally ported to PlayStation2™. Metal Slug 6 has originally been released on Atomiswave hardware, which is the first main game in the franchise not to run on SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware.
Metal Slug 6 is both a departure and a return of sorts for the series. Whereas Metal Slug 4 dealt with technological and cybernetic themes and Metal Slug 5 possessed a paranormal motif, Metal Slug 6 returns to the Rebel-Martian alliance featured in Metal Slugs 2, X, and 3, but on a much broader scale. Rather than repeating the previous games' events of the Martians breaking the alliance and the Rebels assisting the player in turn, the player now teams up with the Rebels and Martians to combat an even greater threat.

New version of the awesome racing game:

Ridge Racers 2 contains 24 courses found in its predecessor, as well as all the courses until R4, to make a total of 42 courses, a record high for the series. Not only drifting feels so thrilling, but the operation is still so easy and simple, and the graphical changes are refreshing as well. Exterior appearances like courses and cars are not only realistic but the sensation of speed has also been increased. In addition, another feature of Ridge Racer is the temporal use of nitro to accelerate after accumulating sufficient charge from drifting. Using this, not only can the winning gap be widened within a short while, but one can also turn defeat into victory in critical times.

Ridge Racers 2 for PSP™ is available today as Japanese language Version Asia release at US$ 42.90 only. The Japanese Version is expected later this week, an English language Version Asia release is on preorder to ship later this year at a yet unconfirmed date. Also on preorder is the Ridge Racers 2 Direct Audio soundtrack album.

Heres the press release:
Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced the PSP(R) (PlayStation(R) Portable) Entertainment Pack, a new "all-in-one" offering for portable gaming and entertainment. Available beginning September 13, the package features a PSP system along with the best-selling off-road racing game ATV Offroad Fury(R): Blazin' Trails, the
"Lords of Dogtown" UMD(TM) movie, and a Sony 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo(TM). With an SRP of $249.99, the PSP Entertainment Pack offers great value to consumers ahead of the holiday shopping season. "The PSP system's success stems from its ability to combine console-quality gaming with multimedia applications, and this new package
showcases all of the system's strengths," said Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Whether consumers want to pick up and play one of our top racing franchises, watch a movie, or enjoy their own music, photos, downloadable content and more, the PSP Entertainment Pack delivers it all in one convenient package."Beyond demonstrating the PSP system's multi-functionality, the combination
of software and storage along with the PSP hardware creates a compelling product with significant value. The total cost for each of the components, if purchased separately, would be $300 or more, so the PSP Entertainment Pack
delivers $50 of added value to consumers.
"While the PSP system has out-sold all other next-generation gaming handhelds in the period since its launch, we expect this new offering to drive
additional consumer interest and sales, particularly as the holiday shopping season approaches," Dille said. The PSP Entertainment Pack provides everything you need to enjoy the ultimate in portable gaming and entertainment right out of the box, making it an ideal gift for everyone from students to gadget fans to business and leisure travelers. With the included Sony 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, there's plenty of storage for gift-givers to customize the system by downloading personal photos, favorite songs and video clips.

In Japan, mahjong is largely a male preserve. Thus, explaining game publisher D3's bikini-wearing, tile flipping gambling-slash-floor sweeping bonanza. Dubbed THE Dokodemo Gal Mahjong, the game is a PSP version of the Simple 2000 title Love * Mahjong. The game offers a chance to chit-chat with your virtual competitor, an array of customizable costumes, and "Service Time" in which the female characters are given tasks that need completion. Call it a hunch, but no doubt the game's producer pitched this as "Dead or Alive meets mahjong."

Sony just sent word that Killzone: Liberation will be hitting the Playstation Portable on Halloween. The PSP sequel to the PS2 shooter, has gotten a major redesign for the portable. This time around the game looks more like an isometric tactical shooter with a third-person view and seems to emphasize the tactical side of things.
The game will feature some neat new features as well including the ability to issue commands to an AI player through a Tactical Command System, an assortment of six-player Ad-Hoc multiplayer modes and support for downloading content from the official website.
Gaming Target reports that shortly after the game launches gamers will be able to download Infrastructure support and two new mulitplayer maps.
This sounds like a game worth checking out. It's good to see Sony totally overhauling a popular franchise instead of just making a straight port for the PSP.
