An EB Games employee sends word that the company, in conjunction with Sony, has launched a training website that is meant to get their sales people up to speed on all the Playstation 3 has to offer.
Most of the information on the site is already known, but there are a few tid-bits of note. First the page has this to say about PSP connectivity with the PS3:
The HDD will become a storage space for the massive amounts of media you will be sharing with your PSP (movies, music, TV shows, game content.).
That's right, they list TV shows, music and movies, which has me hoping that the PS3 will have the ability to stream television, music and movies directly to your PSP live over WiFi. That would be sooooo sweet.
There's also a bit on the site about Sony's online service for the PS3. Something we know next to nothing about.
Unfortunately, the information is presented in a laundry list. Instead of trying to figure it out and risk getting it wrong, I'm just going to present it here.
_PS3 ONLINE_ • *Communication/Community:* • *Voice/Video Chat* • *Messaging* • *Lobby/Matchmaking* • *Score/Ranking* • *Friend List/Avatar* • *Game data upload/download
• *Commerce: *
• *Shop (accessible from inside games)*
• *Content download*
• *Micro payment*
• *Subscription*
• *Entitlement (user access rights) management
A couple of things pop out to me. It sounds like it's going to offer just about everything that the Xbox 360's Live offers, though it's not clear what the interface will be like. I'm not too happy about that word subscription in that second batch of descriptors. And why are they calling Entitilements "user access rights"? I thought they were supposed to be like achievments, or did I miss something?
Well Sony only has a month and a half left to explain PSP conncectivity and PS3 online to us. I expect the info to hit something in the next few weeks.

At the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Nintendo unveiled its "Playing is Believing" motto for the Wii, with the idea being that if gamers tried the console out, they'd be more eager to buy the machine. Now it seems as though Sony is adopting the same idea.
Speaking with Bloomberg, Sony Computer Entertainment America COO Jack Tretton said that 15,000 PlayStation 3 demonstration kiosks will be deployed to American and Canadian retailers over the holiday season. By contrast, only 3,000 demo kiosks were used for the PlayStation 2 launch.
The cost of the operation will be $30 million, reports Bloomberg. There's no indication whether or not that price tag includes the costs of the PS3 units themselves.
"Once the consumers get their hands on a PS3 and understand what's under the hood, I think price will not be a factor in the decision-making process," Tretton told the news service.

Citing sister publication Official PlayStation Magazine as its source, 1Up today is reporting that Bethesda Softworks' PC and Xbox 360 open-world role-playing game is headed for both the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3. The article states that the PS3 edition of the game will include new content, including the introduction of the Knights of the Nine, a new faction that players will be able to join, much as they would the Fighter's Guild or the Dark Brotherhood. The PS3 version will also have new characters, locations, armor, and weapons.
As for the PSP version of the game, it apparently isn't a straight port. The game will reportedly be called The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion, and will be set in a different place than its home console and PC brethren. The Elder Scrolls Travels is the same designation given to versions of previous portable Elder Scrolls games that appeared on mobile phones and the Nokia N-Gage.
The PSP and PS3 editions of the games were first rumored in April, when a poster on a gaming message board revealed what he said was a Bethesda "release list," with Oblivion set for a November 6 release on the two systems. Rumors were stoked again in July when a product listing for Oblivion on PS3 showed up on GameStop.
No release dates were given for the two games.

Yes, the rumors are true: Oblivion is heading to PlayStation 3, and an upcoming cover story in Official PlayStation Magazine has the exclusive first look.
Here's what we know so far. The game will introduce a new faction to the Oblivion world, one that's available right at the beginning called Knights of the Nine and described by the developers as "the good Dark Brotherhood." The goal here is to become the Divine Crusader (think part warrior, part priest), and the quest features new locations, characters, armor and weapons.
"Oblivion has these really good character archetypes for evil," says executive producer Todd Howard. "It has the Dark Brotherhood: You get your outfit, you feel like an assassin, you feel like an evil guy, [and] you role-play like an evil guy. We [didn't] have the opposite end of that. There [was] very little reward for being a goody two-shoes."
"As opposed to adding content that allowed your character to just experience new quests, we wanted to create something that allowed your character to become something new," he continues.
Fans may also be excited to hear that the series is heading to PSP in Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion, a game that plays very similarly to its big brother but takes place in a completely different setting.
For more information on both games, check out the cover story in the November issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, on store shelves soon. Check out the first screenshots of the PS3 game here, and look for many more in OPM.

Hi all before i take my rather bruised eye to bed ( Never playfight with children on tramplolines btw, my sons knee caught my bloody eye with some major force and thus i have a black eye and a swollen face, i laugh now but boy is it sore )
Anyway my Anonymous Coder friend who is working on PS1P the PSOne emu for the PSP posted to me this update about the emulator:
As I said yesterday, I had to send you a version that was a few days old, my current one is a little better with hard-coded buttons, and I'm also looking at fullscreen and new optimizations for the GPU. Oh yeah, and at the present time the GPU is still mostly in software mode, since it's a lot easier to make it work in software first, I'm trying to convert it to 100% hardware but having a bit of a hard time. Currently only the final blits and the PS1 VRAM->VRAM copies are HW-optimized for the PSP. I'm currently trying to optimize the RAM->VRAM and VRAM->RAM using the same technique, which should help a lot in loading times (which are already very fast as you can see, although I can still get them even faster easily, while breaking compatibility with a number of games) and also maybe in gameplay with games that stream data to/from VRAM and RAM in real time during gameplay.
There should be a BIG speed boost when the GPU is fully converted to HW too.
to be honest some of that doesnt mean a deal to me but the BIG Speed boost does
More info as i get it and please to all those that say its fake, this emulator is as real as the person posting news about it, meaning very real.
Whilst i think about it remembering that the PSone has a lot of buttons, what do all you DCEmu Members think would be the best way to get all the buttons on the PSP?

Via Gamedaily
The PSP is running second place to the Nintendo DS right now in the handheld wars. You can argue that point all you want, but it's fact. Thanks to the launch of the improved DS model (the Nintendo DS Lite) and a more affordable price, Nintendo's in a prime position to take a stranglehold of the handheld market This doesn't bode well for the folks at Sony, who put a lot of time and effort into making their debut handheld system the one to look for on the market for on-the-go gaming thrills.
But all is not lost. Sony may have lost the battle, but not the war. So we've decided to take a closer look at the situation and provide some advice as to how Sony can recover some of their lost ground and make the PSP the powerhouse it deserves to be.
Meanwhile, let's get through the tips...
1. Drop the UMD movies already. Look, Sony, you tried to establish your Sony PSP as an all-out entertainment machine, but let's be honest- the UMD movie is a lost cause. First of all, it's too expensive. Releases go anywhere from $15-$30, and the movies don't boast nearly as many extras as they do in DVD format. Secondly, if people want to watch movies on the go, they can snag a portable DVD player for around $100. Finally, studios, not to mention store chains, are losing veritable interest. UMD movies are being discounted for quick sale or dropped from shelves altogether in favor of more interactive entertainment, such as games or systems. This multimedia has run its course, and it was an interesting experiment, but UMD movies are the new Beta. There, I said it. Now drop it already.
2. Lower the system price. A drastic move? Yes. But a necessary one. You're about to enter the Christmas season with a handheld that's priced almost double the price of your PlayStation 2. Parents and their children will instead turn to the alternative, the much cheaper DS Lite, with their holiday dollars. So you'll need to compete with that by dropping the price of your basic unit once more. Yes, we know you knocked it down to $200. But $150- or even $130- looks more desirable, and may turn on more of the crowd you're seeking out. Sure, you'll eat a few bucks in hardware, but think about the rise in unit purchases, leading to more game purchases.
3. Fix the D-pad. Sure, you're already at work on a new prototype unit that will eventually replace the ultra-shiny PSP. But, for now, could a little something be done to fix up the D-pad so that it feels less strenuous? I don't see why we would need to use a cheap stick-on accessory that came with a Capcom or Namco game to get a more natural feeling out of our system, when a little rethinking in manufacturing can easily fix the error. We know you're reinventing the system as you know it- but that doesn't mean you can't tweak the current one.
4. Get more exclusive games. Part of the appeal of owning a certain game system is that it has a few exclusive titles that can't be played anywhere else. The PSP already has plenty of these, such as Daxter, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, and Pursuit Force, but now's the time to step up and get some deals made for some more big, exclusive games. And we don't just mean fun little compilations like EA Replay and Activision Hits. We mean BIG licenses. Make a deal with Square Enix to set up the next Chrono game for the little handheld. Talk with EA and get a new Burnout tailor-made for the PSP. See what I'm getting at?
5. Get more online friendly. We see that you're offering online play via Infrastructure with some titles and the ability to challenge players via Wi-Fi, but, really, you need to keep up with Nintendo. And with that, you need to set up some kind of gamer-friendly online network that not only allows players to hook up in more of your first-party games, but does so for very little price- if any at all, for that matter. And make it more user friendly than the interface you have now. Instead of just setting up Hot Spots, make accessibility something of a snap, like the DS does. Trust me, you'll thank us when we're gathering Dark Mirror leagues and taking part in NBA 07 tourneys.
6. Make PS1 downloads reasonably priced. "Riiiiiiiidge Racer!" OK, so the PS1 download service that you're going to be introducing probably won't revolutionize the game scene. But you've still got a cavalcade of classic gamers who will take advantage of getting Gran Turismo on their system just to race against others. But please, please, PLEASE- make your download service easy to afford. Set up a point system for a cheap dollar trade-off, introduce pre-paid cards for cheap, and even set up an earning system to get bonus points to add to your profile. Paying $15 for Ridge Racer is not even close to acceptable, especially when I can find the original PS1 game for $2. Time to make these games shine for a fraction of the cost. You'll get more downloads this way, I assure you.
7. Get a better marketing campaign. Yes, talking hairballs can be fun. But we're more about the mice listening to cheese (OUTSIDE!) and the diversity of ads. I haven't even seen an ad yet for Dark Mirror, one of the system's best games this year. Sony, you need to introduce a better, more visceral marketing campaign that talks more about the games and less about dialogue involving having all the women in the world falling in love with you. Show us what you got with games, not a smarmy tongue. We already know you can talk up a storm.
8. Get the multi-colored units out quicker. Want to turn on more gamers? A plain black system probably won't get it done by itself. We know that you've revealed multiple-colored systems over at the Tokyo Game Show, so now you can surprise us by getting them on shelves for a good price. Sure, I'll take a sporty blue PSP for $150. It almost reminds me of the old Sega Sports Game Gear unit, but much, much sleeker.
Hope these tips helped you out, Sony. Trust your own instincts if you must, but following this advice will certainly make things easier for your Christmas season. Good luck to you guys.

Let’s face it, if the PlayStation 3 ships without any kind of demo disc, there’ll be uproar. Given Sony’s record with bundled console/disc packages at the PlayStation and PS2’s respective launches (dinosaurs and bathroom sinks, remember?) don’t expect to be able to play a one level demo of Resistance or Genji 2 or Warhawk.
Anyway, never mind the games – the rumour mill creaks into gear today with much Internet discussion regarding the possible inclusion of a Blu-ray demo disc designed to erm, demonstrate how lush films can look given the high-def treatment. Marvel at the shape and shine of Kate Beckinsale’s leather-clad arse in Underworld Evolution? Don’t mind if we do. Marvel at the shape – just the shape - of Natasha Henstridge in Species? Oh, alright then. ?HD in Memento in on going what’s out work and try. Well very.
These and more – Basic Instinct 2, xXx, RV, Training Day, Hitch, Resident Evil Apocalypse, Black Hawk Down, Layer Cake and Saw to name a few – could well be available to sample with the PS3 launch. Then again, maybe not.

Via Opposable Thumbs, an article at GamePro in which Phil Harrison clarifies that Blue-ray on the PS3 is a 'game design' decision. From the article:
"Once we had that storage capacity on Blu-ray Disc, adding the movie playback functionality was extremely cost-effective, [the cost] is actually non-existent. So games like Resistance which, as a launch title, is up to 20-something gigabytes already. And that's day one -- think about four years, six years from now. We'll be pushing the 50 gigabyte limit with dual-layer Blu-ray very quickly. So we absolutely need it as game designers, and in that regard, the consumer is getting the movie functionality effectively for free."
I probably would have had a follow-up question there, but that's where the interview ends. So what do you think? Which came first for Sony: Blue-ray as new movie media, or Blu-ray as answer to design challenges?

New PS2 game released
Kowloon Youma Gakuen Ki re:charge is an adventure game which mixes elements of RPG. Despite the title, the game takes place in Shinjuku, Tokyo's Kamiyoshi high school in 2004. The protagonist, an exchange student, who doubles as a treasure hunter, hears of an ancient treasure resting well hidden in the deepest areas of a ruin buried underneath the school building. He eventually discovers the entrance to the underground labyrinth on a graveyard located in one corner of the school's campus and the adventure begins. This re:charge version can be compared to Shin Megami Tensei's maniax edition and features new dungeons and an extended scenario.

New PS2 Game release:
Quartett! The stage of Love is a port of a PC love simulation that's set in a classical music school called Magnolia. Taking control of student Phill Junhers, who was scouted to be a student at Magnolia, players must interact with a group of girls over a two month period and attempt to make it to concert-level performance. The game employs a so-called Floating Frame Director system which brings character visuals to life with over a hundred graphical patterns that make use of thousands of frames. Princess Soft has improved upon the PC version with full voice.

Rockstar has released a handful of new Vice City Stories screenshots - 18 to be exact - showing off the quad bike, helicopter and water sport mischief you'll probably be upto on a train somewhere in about a month's time.
Also divulged this morning is the Empire Building mode, which basically has you attacking and overtaking properties owned by rival gangs. After successfully attacking and wrecking a rival business, it will eventually go up for sale allowing you to set up your own digs from six different business types, including protection rackets and loan sharking. Rival gangs will also try their luck at taking the business back from time to time; so adding your own tooled-up henchman is a necessity.
Sounds good to us. Look out for Vice City Stories in the shops on November 3.

New release from ADePSP:
This is a module for Devhook that extends the functionality of the existing screenshot module. Taking and modifying the code for the Video Recorder from the LCS CheatDevice by Edison Carter I have adapted it into a prx module so it can be used with DevHook.
You are no longer limited to taking animated GIF clips in Liberty City Stories. It can now be done in any game you like. You can even capture out of game clips such as game menus, loading animations and even the XMD.
You can record video in normal mode (half the screen size) or advanced mode (full or quarter screen size) and all files will be saved to the PSP/PHOTO folder. It is recommended you use normal mode or advanced mode in QUARTER_SIZE as advanced mode in FULL_SIZE slows the game down a lot and makes it difficult to play.
The animated GIF files are uncompressed so make sure you have plenty of memory stick space in order to store them (don't worry, if you run out of space the module will simply stop working). You can compress the GIF files massivly without loosing any quality using the GIFAnimator.exe program provided. It is a very good idea to do this if you intend to post your clips on forums.
Heres whats new in this release:
v0.2
- 16bit screen displays now supported (thanks edison)
- Stop recording button combo more responsive
- Config file added allowing customizable controls and video settings

Several amusing and not so amusing items that need to be discussed openly.
Site Impersonations
Whilst it doesnt affect this site its rather sad that a site impersonates a coder on their forums so that they get the release thread.
Most of you know but if you dont the rather excellent Dark_Alex was impersonated by the people over at PS2Nfo over the release of one of his creations, its rather funny because the coder isnt even a member there.
Sad rating - 8
The Non Crediting Sites
Well heres a funny one firstly we have the newsposters over at PSP Spot who seem to post every PSP Scene release but only around 10% of the time ever post the source. Come on guys lets all play fair.
Then we have Maxconsole, a site thats of a decent size but wont link to any release from this site or QJ, yet they post all our news, sadly yesterday they posted the PS1P emu news and cut out the watermarks from my screens. For that i will now until the release put the watermark slap bang in the middle. If the scene is to move on lets all link properly.
Sad rating - 9
The GPL Wars
Lessons need to be learned over GPL releases and source codes, firstly some people were far too quick to jump down others necks, firstly i advise patience from all sectors, then contact the relevent parties and make sure no special permissions were given.
Then and only then ask for the source in a friendly manner. To all coders in this day and age people want your work and as an end user the GPL part annoys me, but if the release is subject to that then please try to accomadate.
Im sure everyone understands the need to protect the release of the people involved but remember all coders put a lot of time on projects. Sometimes a little bit of slack should be given.
Sad rating - 6
Hopefully all issues can be resolved and that all the different communities in the PSP scene can work as one. The flaming becuase of the GPL issue the other night was not neccessary at all. Lessons must be learned by all parties.
Thats it for now
